- 0:00It's funny because sometimes we can have
- 0:01like the sneakiest habits that look like
- 0:04hard work, but it's actually
- 0:06procrastinating.
- 0:07And I found myself doing this time and
- 0:09time again, especially in like my last
- 0:13years of university and early years
- 0:15coming out of university. A lot of us
- 0:18are planning this like productive life
- 0:21that we never actually do. Spring is the
- 0:25best time to start. Hello, hello, and
- 0:28welcome back to another episode of the
- 0:3020s detox. I'm Bianca, your host, where
- 0:32we dive into all the things [music] that
- 0:33I'm learning and unlearning in my 20s to
- 0:36elevate this decade. Before [music] we
- 0:38get further into this episode, make sure
- 0:41to download the episode if it's on
- 0:42Spotify or Apple and follow along. I
- 0:45release an episode every single Tuesday
- 0:47relating to seasonal guidance or giving
- 0:51advice for 20-somethings, young
- 0:53adulthood, navigating that time. I also
- 0:55have a goal to reach like 100 views on
- 0:58Spotify, so only if you've been
- 0:59listening to some time and you have a
- 1:01good idea of how you feel about the
- 1:03show, please make sure to rate it and
- 1:05let me know what you think. I think
- 1:07something that we forget to really talk
- 1:09about when it comes to action taking
- 1:11[music]
- 1:11and going for your goals and and trying
- 1:14to develop these habits, especially as
- 1:17it's come spring season where that is
- 1:20the forefront of what we want to be
- 1:22doing, how scary it can be. There's
- 1:26safety [music] in the preparation stage.
- 1:28There's safety in creating the to-do
- 1:31list, [music] in organizing your
- 1:33calendar, in planning these events later
- 1:36[music] on. The scary part is doing the
- 1:40actual task, going for the goal, going
- 1:43to that event. That is the scary part.
- 1:46And sometimes we might [music] look like
- 1:49we're being really productive when we're
- 1:52changing our systems around, having a
- 1:54different way of making our to-do list.
- 1:56And I think even if [music] people
- 1:59around you think, "Oh, you work so hard.
- 2:00You're working such long hours, etc."
- 2:03You know that something isn't right,
- 2:05though. Like you know something isn't
- 2:08feeling [music] like you could be doing
- 2:10your best work and for less hours
- 2:14without rest, then the systems can be on
- 2:19overdrive and you're actually not being
- 2:22productive and some of that time could
- 2:23actually be spent to these sneaky
- 2:26procrastination habits. This episode is
- 2:29really going to focus on how the spring
- 2:32season can guide you towards taking that
- 2:36action. Try to encourage you to maybe
- 2:38see some of these sneaky procrastination
- 2:41habits that you might be doing and
- 2:42urging you to lessen those if you can.
- 2:46So, let's go back to the winter. It is a
- 2:48time of preparation.
- 2:5190 days are for preparation. That
- 2:54preparation can include finding more
- 2:57research to support what you want to do,
- 2:59building this creative energy inside of
- 3:02you so that when it's this time of the
- 3:04year, you feel energized to do so. And
- 3:07you'll notice that it's actually the
- 3:08people that are in hustle culture and
- 3:11live by the hustle that will fall into
- 3:15the trap of doing sneaky procrastination
- 3:18things that you think that are hard
- 3:22work. You're actually still in the
- 3:25preparation of it. So, the
- 3:28the procrastination
- 3:30sneaky bits are, like I said, the to-do
- 3:33list, the planning, preparing, the
- 3:36researching, the gaining inspiration,
- 3:39and you're always reaching this like
- 3:41build-up of an idea, play around with it
- 3:43for a bit, but you don't stick with it
- 3:45long-term. And that fade off is because
- 3:49you are not actually allowing yourself
- 3:52to like take the leap and push past the
- 3:55hardest parts of action taking, which
- 3:58include the risk of failure. When we are
- 4:00able to overcome this whole idea of
- 4:03failure and perfection, then we are able
- 4:06to actually follow through with so many
- 4:10things we want to do, which builds our
- 4:12self-efficacy, it builds our
- 4:14self-confidence, and it also will take
- 4:16us so much further in life than those
- 4:19who work, you know, 10-hour days, and
- 4:22then they'll get another scheduling app
- 4:25or to-do list app, or they'll change
- 4:28something around because something isn't
- 4:29working. I just had a friend tell me
- 4:31being like, "I really like your idea of
- 4:34seasonal living. I just don't really
- 4:36operate like that. But, I do have these
- 4:38like moments where I work really hard,
- 4:39and then I like, you know, have to take
- 4:41a mental health break and a rest." And
- 4:42I'm like, "That's actually a sign that
- 4:45you should be doing the seasonal living,
- 4:47because if you find that you are cutting
- 4:50your rhythm off and your flow off, which
- 4:53the I think flow is going to be like
- 4:55theme for May. Those who will find
- 4:58themselves in these patterns where like
- 5:00they'll work really hard, and then
- 5:01they'll like crash out slightly, and
- 5:03they need a mental health break, or they
- 5:04need like a physical break, or they get
- 5:06sick. That is a sign that maybe this
- 5:08system is not working out for you, for
- 5:11your health, and for the good of a
- 5:13long-term project. So, if you find
- 5:16yourself in those moments, that's when I
- 5:18really urge you to try and follow this
- 5:22seasonal workbook. Like, I don't just
- 5:24say it because it's a way for me to make
- 5:26money, it's because it's really changed
- 5:28my life and changed the way I operate,
- 5:29and allows me to feel so much more
- 5:32abundant about my life. And that's why
- 5:35like when you dedicate winter to
- 5:36preparation, then you are able to build
- 5:39this vision and this creative energy
- 5:41within you to then propel you through
- 5:44spring. Spring is arguably the hardest
- 5:47year. Spring is the hardest time of the
- 5:50year because it is forcing you to take
- 5:52action and it can be really difficult
- 5:55when you're shifting from this
- 5:56preparation winter and then now the main
- 5:59themes are failure, perfection,
- 6:03procrastinating with this consistency
- 6:06because we want it to look a certain
- 6:09way, we're not happy with the results
- 6:11and we're struggling with the idea of
- 6:14failure.
- 6:15I've already mentioned this in a few
- 6:16other episodes for the spring season,
- 6:19but failure is a part of success. To
- 6:24fail is also to succeed. Those two work
- 6:28hand in hand with one another and
- 6:30actually without it, we will never
- 6:32recognize what success is and we would
- 6:34never recognize what a bad day is or
- 6:37what what a pivoting moment would be. So
- 6:40you need both, right? And that is
- 6:43something that is going to give you so
- 6:45much more clarity and insight than any
- 6:49sort of preparation.
- 6:51And what could this mean? Like I'll give
- 6:54an example with the podcast. Like if I
- 6:56found that, you know, I'm working
- 6:58towards some creative projects and it's
- 7:00heading off and then it isn't heading
- 7:02off and there's like a curve where it
- 7:04goes down and I don't get as much
- 7:06traction or insight and I'm having these
- 7:10feelings of like maybe I'm failing, may
- 7:12maybe I'm no longer succeeding in this.
- 7:15What if I took a step back and just
- 7:17pivoted again? The best thing that you
- 7:19can do is keep going
- 7:22because with every successful person
- 7:26that I know, they're comfortable
- 7:28with the fluctuations that come with it.
- 7:32Some of you might not be
- 7:33entrepreneurial, which is fine. This
- 7:36goes through anything in life. Your
- 7:39habits with how you eat, with how you
- 7:42work out with how you communicate with
- 7:44your partner. Investments, if you tend
- 7:46to if you want to have some investments,
- 7:48there's always going to be this
- 7:50fluctuation. But, the last thing we want
- 7:52to do is panic. With investing, the last
- 7:56thing we want to do is panic sell when
- 7:58the market tends to go down. How do we
- 8:00view this in a different way and a and a
- 8:02lighter way? Oh, sometimes that's the
- 8:04best time to buy. Or, we also understand
- 8:07about the long-term trend to be able to
- 8:10stay there and keep going. When we are
- 8:13going towards our goals, this is really
- 8:18also telling you how resilient can you
- 8:21be?
- 8:22How much do you care about yourself and
- 8:24your success and your overall well-being
- 8:27that you will be able to face
- 8:28discomfort? That you will be able to
- 8:31deal with people not always liking what
- 8:34you're doing, maybe not always
- 8:36validating what you're doing. The thing
- 8:38about living seasonally is you have a
- 8:41bit of this urgency every single 90 days
- 8:45to know, oh, a new season is here.
- 8:48A new intention is here. And if I miss
- 8:50it, then I have to wait a whole year to
- 8:53be able to channel that energy. I really
- 8:56urge you in the next 60 days cuz we're
- 8:59in May now. Resist fine-tuning your
- 9:03productive systems. Just surrender
- 9:07and keep going. Because summer is a
- 9:10different energy. When we go into
- 9:12summer, I'll give you even more tips on
- 9:15what this can mean for overall success.
- 9:18But, spring,
- 9:20let's not overcomplicate things here.
- 9:22Spring is not a time to prepare. You've
- 9:25prepared enough. You know what you want.
- 9:28You just got to do it. You need to just
- 9:30take the leap and go for it. And you're
- 9:33not going to feel 100% ready. You don't
- 9:36need to feel 100% ready. I actually
- 9:38don't know
- 9:39anybody in my life who ever felt 100%
- 9:43ready to fall into something or decide
- 9:47on something. Like I don't don't think
- 9:49there's any mother out there that felt
- 9:52100% ready to have a kid. I don't think
- 9:55any business owner felt 100% ready to
- 9:58start their business. I don't think
- 10:00every teacher out there felt 100% ready
- 10:02to go in front of a bunch of students
- 10:04and start teaching to them. I don't
- 10:06think every medical student felt 100%
- 10:08ready to go into medical school or
- 10:09become a doctor. The difference between
- 10:12people who decide to take action though
- 10:15is they're going with the fear. They're
- 10:17going with the fear of failure, with the
- 10:20fear of looking dumb and and not being
- 10:23perfect and messing up a few times. And
- 10:26that is the energy that I want you to
- 10:28just take take it. The thing I have in
- 10:30my notes right here is don't miss this
- 10:33season. Starting before you're ready
- 10:36isn't always being reckless. It's
- 10:38trusting the clarity that comes from
- 10:41doing. So I guess that's the last thing
- 10:43I'm going to tell you there is you might
- 10:45have some reasons for why you want to
- 10:47prepare. You think that that is a
- 10:49smarter system to follow before taking
- 10:53action. To a certain extent, planning
- 10:55and preparing for something is
- 10:57important. But then I think you need to
- 11:00know when it's surpassing a productive
- 11:03stage into a procrastination stage. You
- 11:06need to be able to realize that you get
- 11:09a lot more clarity on what will be
- 11:12better for you moving forward when you
- 11:15actually just start doing it. Like if
- 11:17it's a fitness routine, you can follow a
- 11:19bunch of fitness instructors, create a
- 11:21perfect workout split, but you're
- 11:23actually not going to know what's best
- 11:25for you and your body and where you're
- 11:27at with your skill level until you
- 11:29actually go go the gym and you start it.
- 11:31Some people need a longer warm-up. Some
- 11:34people need more yoga in between workout
- 11:37sessions. Some people need more rest
- 11:39breaks. Some people need different
- 11:41workout exercises. If you have had past
- 11:44injuries, their body shape, and all of
- 11:46that honestly will come more from just
- 11:50doing. Like I said, to a certain extent,
- 11:52having that preparation and research
- 11:54stage is important. However, when you
- 11:57take it to the point where you feel like
- 11:59you need to know everything before you
- 12:00take the risk, you'll never take it, and
- 12:03you'll miss this season. I appreciate
- 12:05you guys so much for being here. Make
- 12:07sure to check out my seasonal workbook.
- 12:09It's going to be in the description.
- 12:11This will give you all the more tips in
- 12:14order to take action this spring. Thank
- 12:16you so much for being here. I appreciate
- 12:17you for listening and and tuning in. I
- 12:19really do. And I'll see you next
- 12:21Tuesday. Bye.
