- 0:51purpose in your life. Your love

- 0:57you. Your financial life could improve.
- 0:59If you do the things that we're asking
- 1:00you to do, you will definitely see
- 1:04results in your life.
- 1:05Now, as we start our exploration of
- 1:07health and fitness for today, I want to
- 1:09share something with you that you might
- 1:10find surprising.
- 1:12You know, we've been studying these 12
- 1:13categories for a long time. We've been
- 1:15studying best practices in every
- 1:17category. We've researched how these
- 1:19categories relate to each other. We've
- 1:22seen a lot over our years of
- 1:24experimenting with the 12 categories and
- 1:26seeing thousands of people go through
- 1:28Lifebook and we've noticed some really
- 1:31interesting patterns. But by far, the
- 1:34biggest pattern that we've seen by a
- 1:36mile is in the health and fitness
- 1:38category. And I'm going to do something
- 1:40that I usually don't do and just state
- 1:43this as a fact instead of an opinion
- 1:45because the evidence has just been so
- 1:46consistent over the years.
- 1:49Here's what it is.
- 1:50Success in the health and fitness
- 1:52category almost always comes down to
- 1:56your purpose. to the reasons that you
- 1:59have for wanting to achieve success for
- 2:03your health and fitness. Like 99% of the
- 2:05time is going to come down to your
- 2:06purpose. Why?
- 2:08Because everyone knows how to get in
- 2:11great physical shape.
- 2:13Eat right and exercise effectively.
- 2:16That's how to get in great shape. Now,
- 2:18clearly you can spend an entire lifetime
- 2:21studying those two subjects and
- 2:23fine-tuning your knowledge and skills,
- 2:25but that's pretty much the strategy.
- 2:27That's how to be in great shape. Eat
- 2:30better and eat less. Exercise better and
- 2:33exercise more. There it is.
- 2:36It's your purpose that's going to
- 2:38determine whether or not you do that,
- 2:40whether or not you do what is required
- 2:43to have high levels of health and
- 2:44fitness. It's your reasons for wanting
- 2:47to do it.
- 2:48In other words, when it comes to success
- 2:51in this category, your why is
- 2:54everything.
- 2:56If your why is weak, anything can derail
- 2:59you. Anything can knock you off course.
- 3:01Oh, it's raining. I'm not going to go to
- 3:03the gym today, right?
- 3:05But if you have a strong enough purpose,
- 3:07it is literally transformational. I mean
- 3:09that literally, meaning you can
- 3:11transcend just about any challenge, just
- 3:14about any situation. You can take it out
- 3:17of play and and achieve your goals more
- 3:19easily. So, what we want to do is we
- 3:22want to dive a little bit deeper today
- 3:24into the concept of purpose in your
- 3:26health and fitness category.
- 3:29Over the years, we've seen three
- 3:31fundamental reasons why people fail in
- 3:34this area of their lives, why they don't
- 3:36achieve the level of health and fitness
- 3:38that they really want, why they have bad
- 3:40health habits, you know, like eating too
- 3:42much or drinking too much, smoking,
- 3:45eating horribly unhealthy fast food,
- 3:48being obese, you know, whatever their
- 3:50challenges are.
- 3:52In the absence of of real physiological
- 3:55or emotional challenges, which I have no
- 3:57competence to address,
- 3:59we've discovered that failure in this
- 4:01category comes down to one or more of
- 4:03the three following mindsets.
- 4:06One,
- 4:07I don't know.
- 4:09Two, I don't care.
- 4:12Three,
- 4:14I can't help myself.
- 4:16So, let's take a closer look at these
- 4:18three mindsets.
- 4:20The first is I don't know.
- 4:22Ignorance. I literally don't know that
- 4:25two double cheeseburgers and a large fry
- 4:27and a big sip and a supersize Snickers
- 4:29for dessert is a nutritionally inferior
- 4:32meal. I have no consciousness of that
- 4:34fact. I I don't understand that
- 4:37shoveling a 2-lb bag of Ruffles into my
- 4:40face and washing it down with a liter of
- 4:41Mountain Dew while I'm sitting on the
- 4:43sofa watching TV is not a good wellness
- 4:45strategy. I just don't know.
- 4:50The second mindset for failure is I
- 4:52don't care.
- 4:54Laziness, which really comes down to
- 4:56apathy. Meaning,
- 4:58yeah, I know that stuff's not good for
- 5:00me, but I just don't care enough to
- 5:02change my behavior, so I'm going to do
- 5:03it anyway.
- 5:05You know, I had a brother who lived like
- 5:07that, who I loved. He didn't live long.
- 5:09He died when he was 27.
- 5:11But when he was alive, that was his
- 5:13deal. I know this is bad for me. I know
- 5:15it's bad for me to drink too much. I
- 5:16know it's bad for me to smoke every day.
- 5:18I know it's bad for me to take drugs. I
- 5:20just don't care.
- 5:22That's a bad road to get trapped on.
- 5:24That is a recipe for disaster.
- 5:26The third reason that people fail in the
- 5:29category of health and fitness is I
- 5:31can't help myself.
- 5:33Lack of self-control.
- 5:35I know this behavior is bad. I know it's
- 5:38self-destructive. And I really do care.
- 5:40I wish I could stop it, but I can't seem
- 5:44to help myself. I know I shouldn't be
- 5:46doing it, but I do it anyway.
- 5:48And this one is sucks. This one is so
- 5:51bad because there's all kinds of
- 5:53negative painful emotions like shame and
- 5:58guilt involved in this one and those
- 6:01hurt. Lack of self-esteem, frustration.
- 6:06I mean, you can literally do amazing all
- 6:09day long with your diet and workout if
- 6:11you suffer from this particular one and
- 6:14and it The end of the night, after
- 6:16you've done great all day, you can
- 6:17completely ruin it in 10 minutes by
- 6:20gorging on whatever, giant piece of
- 6:22cake. And then it's like, "God, can't
- 6:24believe I did that."
- 6:26Can't believe I did that. Instant
- 6:27regret.
- 6:29Now, most of us can relate to this in
- 6:31some respect. I think as a matter of
- 6:33fact, if we're totally honest with
- 6:34ourselves, I think that all of us can
- 6:37relate to all three of these challenges.
- 6:40We've probably had to deal with them all
- 6:42at some point in our lives. I know I
- 6:44have, for sure.
- 6:46Take a look at I don't know.
- 6:48When Missy and I were first married, we
- 6:50used to feed our kids a six-pack of
- 6:52powdered sugar donuts, you know, Little
- 6:54Debbie's or whatever for breakfast and
- 6:56SpaghettiOs with meatballs for lunch. We
- 6:59didn't know, you know? It took us years
- 7:02to educate ourselves and get a solid
- 7:04grip on on our health and fitness. We
- 7:06started out ignorant like everybody
- 7:08starts out ignorant.
- 7:09You take a look at I don't care.
- 7:12I just don't feel like working out right
- 7:14now, so I'm not going to do it.
- 7:16I know I shouldn't be eating or drinking
- 7:18this much right now,
- 7:19but it feels good, so I'm going to do it
- 7:21anyway.
- 7:22Who can't relate to that? I know I can.
- 7:24I've I've been there.
- 7:26Then you take a look at I can't help
- 7:28myself.
- 7:30I know that I'm going to be so pissed
- 7:32off at myself tomorrow for what I'm
- 7:33doing right now.
- 7:35I know this is a bad choice,
- 7:37but I'm going to do it anyway,
- 7:38apparently.
- 7:40Terrible, you know, it just makes you
- 7:41feel so bad that just it does so much
- 7:45emotional violence and damage to your
- 7:47self-esteem.
- 7:50Well, here's what I have discovered over
- 7:51the years. You can either continue to
- 7:53struggle with one or more of these
- 7:55issues in your life, with one or more of
- 7:57these mindsets for failure, or you can
- 8:00literally transcend them and take them
- 8:03out of play simply by getting your
- 8:06purpose on in this category.
- 8:09I've done it in my own life many times
- 8:11over the years and I've seen it done
- 8:12hundreds, if not thousands, of times in
- 8:15the Lifebook community.
- 8:17Your health and fitness purpose, your
- 8:20why, can wipe out any obstacle that's
- 8:23standing in between you and your goals,
- 8:25internal obstacles and external
- 8:28obstacles alike. You got a strong enough
- 8:30why, that purpose can totally wipe out
- 8:33ignorance. It can completely eliminate
- 8:36that I don't know mindset. Because the
- 8:39information you need is out there and
- 8:41you're perfectly capable of finding it
- 8:43and applying it to your life.
- 8:45If you want to lose weight, best
- 8:47practices are known. I mean, you can
- 8:50barely get through a day in America
- 8:52without encountering dozens of different
- 8:54programs or pitches on how to be
- 8:56healthier, or thinner, or stronger, or
- 8:59faster. There are a thousand hows, it's
- 9:02your why that matters. You got to want
- 9:05it enough to do the work to get it.
- 9:08It's your why that can wipe out the I
- 9:10don't care mindset, apathy.
- 9:13Simply put, if you don't care, it's
- 9:16because you don't have a strong enough
- 9:17reason to care. So, find the reason and
- 9:21that apathy is going to disintegrate.
- 9:23Now, if you know and you care, but you
- 9:26can't seem to help yourself,
- 9:29it's 100%
- 9:31plain and simple because your purpose
- 9:33isn't strong enough. You don't have
- 9:35enough leverage on yourself to stop
- 9:37yourself from doing what you shouldn't
- 9:39do and to get yourself to do what you
- 9:41should do. If you did, you wouldn't even
- 9:44give that fast food a second thought.
- 9:47You wouldn't even be a slight
- 9:48consideration in your life.
- 9:51When it comes to health and fitness,
- 9:53purpose is everything. Your why is the
- 9:55issue. So, if you get that right,
- 9:57everything else will fall into place for
- 9:59you in this category.
- 10:01So, here's the big question. How do we
- 10:03get our purpose on? How do we create a
- 10:05purpose in this category that's so
- 10:07compelling that it'll wipe out every
- 10:09obstacle that stands in between us and
- 10:12our vision for the category of health
- 10:14and fitness?
- 10:15Now, I'm going to share with you a
- 10:16life-changing concept right now that
- 10:18you're going to become intimately
- 10:19familiar with by the end of this
- 10:21challenge. It's called category
- 10:23interconnectivity,
- 10:25which addresses how the 12 categories
- 10:27relate to each other, how they support
- 10:30each other, and are supported by each
- 10:32other. Now, the mission here is to take
- 10:34a look at the effect that your health
- 10:36and fitness has on the other categories
- 10:38of your life
- 10:40and find your leverage. Which category
- 10:44does your health and fitness purpose
- 10:46live in? Is the leverage you need in
- 10:49your intellectual life?
- 10:51Cuz research shows that being in shape,
- 10:53getting proper exercise, getting proper
- 10:56nutrition, getting proper sleep
- 10:58significantly increases your ability to
- 11:01think clearly. There's no question about
- 11:03that. Your mind works better when your
- 11:06body is working at optimal levels
- 11:08because your mind is obviously an
- 11:09extension of your body.
- 11:11So, if you care about your intellectual
- 11:13life, there's big leverage here to keep
- 11:15your mind sharp.
- 11:17Same exact thing in your emotional life.
- 11:19Is the leverage that you need in your
- 11:20emotional life? Cuz what you put into
- 11:23your body controls your brain energy and
- 11:25your brain energy controls your
- 11:27emotions.
- 11:28Proper health and fitness is critical to
- 11:30a healthy emotional life. Science has
- 11:32proven that over and over and over
- 11:33again. So, if you're having problems
- 11:36with depression or anxiety or unwanted
- 11:39emotions, you might just find your
- 11:41leverage here in this category.
- 11:43Or is there leverage for you in the
- 11:44spiritual category?
- 11:46Becoming more self-actualized,
- 11:49you know, really striving to become the
- 11:50best person you can be, treating your
- 11:52body as a temple, showing gratefulness
- 11:55every day to the universe, to God, by
- 11:58just taking really, really great care of
- 12:00yourself. Can you find some good
- 12:02leverage here in the spiritual category?
- 12:05What about your love relationship? Could
- 12:07the leverage that you need be found in
- 12:09that category?
- 12:10Being in great shape can have a profound
- 12:13positive effect on your love life in so
- 12:15many ways. It can increase the quality
- 12:17of your sex life. It can increase your
- 12:19admiration for each other.
- 12:21And it can really increase the quality
- 12:23of the experiences that you have
- 12:25together. You know, Missy and I have run
- 12:27marathons together. We've conquered
- 12:29Machu Picchu twice. We've walked the
- 12:31entire French coast from Nice to Saint
- 12:34Jean Cap-Ferrat. We One of our favorite
- 12:37things to do, whenever we get to a new
- 12:39city, is we run, literally, from one
- 12:42side of the city to the other. We've
- 12:43done that in dozens of cities worldwide.
- 12:46Even small things, like if I'm getting
- 12:49ready to go on a trip with Missy, I say
- 12:50to myself, "Going to the beach, got to
- 12:53crank up my workouts." Or if we're going
- 12:55to do a video shoot or a photo session
- 12:57for some project I'm working on, better
- 12:59take it to the next level in health and
- 13:01fitness.
- 13:02My love relationship with Missy has been
- 13:04one of the biggest sources of leverage
- 13:06for me to stay in great shape over the
- 13:08years. So, I've really found a
- 13:10tremendous amount of purpose here. Maybe
- 13:12you can, too. Parenting is another big
- 13:15one, probably the biggest one when it
- 13:17comes to finding leverage in the health
- 13:18and fitness category. This is probably
- 13:21where most Lifebook members get their
- 13:23breakthroughs in this category.
- 13:25In order to be a good parent, you've got
- 13:27to set a good example for your kids,
- 13:30period. That's the number one job of a
- 13:32parent, to show your kids what it looks
- 13:34like to have a healthy, happy,
- 13:36successful life. And taking good care of
- 13:38your body is critical to being a good
- 13:41parent. So, teaching your kids about
- 13:44health, teaching your kids about
- 13:45nutrition and exercise, it's one of our
- 13:47primary responsibilities if you want to
- 13:49be extraordinary parents. And I will
- 13:52tell you that this is an area where
- 13:54we're seeing parents fail more and more
- 13:57and more over the years. The most
- 13:59important thing that you can teach your
- 14:01kid about food is that food isn't just
- 14:04about taste. You know, the primary
- 14:07purpose of food is not just to give you
- 14:09some sort of a of a euphoric, sensual
- 14:12experience three times a day. That's a
- 14:14nice bonus, but it's not the primary
- 14:16purpose of food.
- 14:19The primary purpose of food is to fuel
- 14:22your body. It's to give your body the
- 14:24proper balance of nutritional components
- 14:26that it needs to function at an optimal
- 14:29level. So, if you get that into a kid's
- 14:31head early on, that's going to put them
- 14:33on the right path for life. Now, this
- 14:36doesn't mean that food can't and
- 14:37shouldn't be pleasurable. It should be
- 14:39pleasurable. But the primary purpose of
- 14:41eating and drinking is to fuel your
- 14:43body. When you see people who are in
- 14:45good physical shape, they're doing a
- 14:47good job with this. They get it. When
- 14:48you see people who struggle in this
- 14:50area, they just haven't made that
- 14:51connection powerfully enough.
- 14:54Kids need to know this. And it's their
- 14:57parents that should be teaching it to
- 14:59them.
- 15:00Do some soul searching here, cuz I've
- 15:02seen massive leverage here. And I found
- 15:04it here myself.
- 15:06What about your career and your
- 15:07financial life? Does the health and
- 15:09fitness leverage that you're looking for
- 15:12live in one of these two categories?
- 15:14Having a high-powered career is not only
- 15:17an intellectual challenge, it's a
- 15:18physical challenge. It requires energy.
- 15:22It requires strength and stamina. And
- 15:24there's simply no way, in my own life I
- 15:27know that I can accomplish my career
- 15:28goals without being in good physical
- 15:30shape, as well as being in good mental
- 15:32shape and and good emotional shape. In
- 15:35order to maximize my career potential,
- 15:37I've got to have the ability to stay
- 15:40focused, to stay grounded, to think
- 15:43clearly, to make good decisions, to have
- 15:46high levels of energy, to develop, you
- 15:49know, a forcefulness and power that's
- 15:51going to propel my career forward and
- 15:53help me change the world. All of these
- 15:56attributes live in the health and
- 15:57fitness category. So, I've always known
- 16:00that if I want to manifest my potential
- 16:02for wealth and for career success, I've
- 16:04got to manifest my potential for
- 16:07physical fitness.
- 16:08Okay, now we're going to move on and
- 16:10we're going to take a look at today's
- 16:11exercise in the health and fitness
- 16:13category, which is to find your
- 16:14leverage, to get your purpose on for
- 16:17this important category of your life.
- 16:19Everyone wants to look great and feel
- 16:22great. The challenge is that we might
- 16:24not have a strong enough reason to
- 16:26motivate us to actually go out there and
- 16:27make it happen.
- 16:29When we get crystal clear on our reasons
- 16:31for wanting to achieve a goal, our why,
- 16:34that's what's going to give us the fuel
- 16:36we need to take action.
- 16:38So, today, with your health and fitness
- 16:41goals in mind, we'd like you to take a
- 16:43look at the other areas of your life and
- 16:45write down the answers to these
- 16:47questions in your journal.
- 16:49What are the most important reasons why
- 16:52I want to get in shape?
- 16:54What's my purpose for achieving my
- 16:56health and fitness goals? What's my why?
- 16:58And which categories of my life do my
- 17:01reasons live in? Which categories
- 17:04contribute the most to my purpose?
- 17:07This is a super powerful exercise. Your
- 17:11answers can be as long or as short as
- 17:13you want them to be, but we I that you
- 17:15take at least 15 minutes to deeply
- 17:18connect with your purpose for your
- 17:20health and fitness goals.
- 17:24All right, before I say goodbye to you
- 17:26today, I want to ask you an important
- 17:28question that refers to tomorrow's
- 17:30program.
- 17:31When it comes to creating the
- 17:33extraordinary life that you really want
- 17:35to create for yourself,
- 17:37what would you say is your single most
- 17:40valuable asset?
- 17:42What's your single most valuable asset?
- 17:45Would you be surprised if I told you
- 17:47that it's your mind?
- 17:49Tomorrow we're going to explore one of
- 17:50the most exciting categories of all,
- 17:53your intellectual life.
- 17:55Why is it so exciting?
- 17:57Because your thoughts control just about
- 17:59everything you will ever be, everything
- 18:02you will ever do, and everything you
- 18:04will ever have in your life.
- 18:07Your intellectual life is where the
- 18:09power comes from, to not only build your
- 18:12life vision,
- 18:14but to bring all of your dreams into
- 18:16reality. Tomorrow's going to be a
