You Need to Stick to Your Scheduled Start Time — Transcript

- 0:00This is Alex Mosey reporting from
- 0:01downtown Las Vegas. Not really, about 7
- 0:03minutes from the strip, but
- 0:05uh
- 0:06I am uh I think today is the last day.
- 0:08Is that correct, China?
- 0:09>> Yes.
- 0:10>> Today is the last day of 30 for 30-ish
- 0:13live streams. So, I've uh had had the
- 0:15intent to do 30 lives in 30 days,
- 0:18basically trying to do a live stream
- 0:19every day that I could and didn't have
- 0:21like a an engagement in the middle of
- 0:23the day. Um and I thought I would share
- 0:26with you some of the findings uh from
- 0:28that. China, what findings do we have of
- 0:30our 30 for 30? And I'll actually before
- 0:32you tell us me that, I'll tell you what
- 0:33the uh the intention for us was. So, my
- 0:36thinking process is I wanted to
- 0:37dramatically improve our post-production
- 0:41process. And so, you might have seen
- 0:43that I recorded uh a Dolly Parton video
- 0:46uh yesterday and it was actually posted
- 0:486 hours later. And so, that was like a
- 0:51really cool feat for the team to go from
- 0:53literally idea to slides to filming to
- 0:57editing and posting all within less than
- 0:5912 hours and from just the video uh you
- 1:02know, recording side to the posting in
- 1:05under 6. And so, that was almost
- 1:09entirely a result of this process of us
- 1:11just jamming a lot more footage down the
- 1:13pipeline and forcing efficiencies
- 1:16throughout the team to say like what
- 1:18things matter, what things don't, and
- 1:20having more low-fi or low-production uh
- 1:23content that went out ended up still
- 1:26performing, you know, fine. Um and I'll
- 1:28share some of the uh stats for you guys.
- 1:30So,
- 1:31from live streams and clip longs, we did
- 1:34uh 1.6 million total long-form views
- 1:37from the live stream like experience, if
- 1:40you will, uh which is pretty sweet
- 1:42considering it wasn't like super
- 1:43scripted. It was just off the off the
- 1:45cuff. Um we got 20 million impressions
- 1:48um from this little experiment. Uh for
- 1:51clip shorts, we got 21 and a half
- 1:53million short-form views. And so, the
- 1:55overall um
- 1:57kind of first live stream in the year
- 1:59was successful, but this led to kind of
- 2:02like higher baselines. So, it's kind of
- 2:04like it's done this. Basically, the more
- 2:06live streams I do, the more
- 2:08basically, the more live streams I do,
- 2:09the more people come on the live stream.
- 2:11So, I guess the product uh doesn't suck,
- 2:14or at least that's my hope. Um but you
- 2:15can kind of see, and maybe we'll be able
- 2:17to afterwards show a a graph of what it
- 2:19looks like, but it's just kind of like a
- 2:20a slightly upward streamed mountain,
- 2:22which is kind of cool. Um so, let me
- 2:24share a couple things that have worked
- 2:25well for us in terms of maximizing views
- 2:27and just kind of engagement overall for
- 2:28those of you like want to do this. Um
- 2:30number one, the title and thumbnail
- 2:31matter, obviously. So, you still want to
- 2:33treat it like a regular YouTube video,
- 2:35um and package it based on kind of the
- 2:36first point that's going to be made. So,
- 2:37if you're going to make a lot of points
- 2:38in the video, you want to at least match
- 2:40that when someone gets to the the the
- 2:42the live stream, that they're going to
- 2:43be like, "Oh, that's what I clicked
- 2:44for." And then that's what they're going
- 2:45to get. And then if they choose to stay
- 2:47on after, that's up to them. But just
- 2:48making sure those two match made a
- 2:49pretty big difference in terms of view
- 2:50count after the fact. Um
- 2:53number two, hitting up your email list
- 2:54if you have that. Cross-promoting uh
- 2:56while you're streaming works. So, if
- 2:57you're like, you know, if I do an
- 2:58Instagram story and say, "Hey, I'm live
- 3:00on YouTube." That does push traffic.
- 3:02Same on same on email. Um scheduling it
- 3:04in advance uh made a and actually
- 3:06sticking to that time. So, this was like
- 3:08a very interesting finding for me. Um we
- 3:10tried to schedule some Some of the dates
- 3:11like we had it scheduled and then I had
- 3:13a meeting that went late or whatever. Um
- 3:15so, we had to push them. The days where
- 3:16I was able to stick with the time that I
- 3:18said I was going to start saw
- 3:19significantly more starting views and
- 3:21peak viewership. Um and so, if you are
- 3:24going to do it, I know that the the
- 3:25ultimate goal for most streamers uh
- 3:27and I don't necessarily put myself in
- 3:28that category, but I am somebody who
- 3:30streamed um is to have like the same
- 3:32time every day.
- 3:33Uh I would love to do that. I um
- 3:35I'm not sure honestly, I'm just not sure
- 3:37if I'm willing to commit to that. It's
- 3:38just like that's a lot. Um but I was
- 3:41willing to do the 30-ish for 30
- 3:43to get this started. Um
- 3:45Additionally, integrating short-form
- 3:47hooks and kind of being mindful of the
- 3:48fact that the the content itself is
- 3:50going to be mined for short form. Um
- 3:52there were definitely some questions
- 3:53that I knew I'm like, oh, this is a
- 3:54really good question and I know it's
- 3:55going to become probably a clip. So, I'm
- 3:57just a little bit more mindful of how I
- 3:58phrase the answer and make sure that I
- 3:59land the plane with a very clear like
- 4:01next steps or like one, two, three. So,
- 4:04there's a payoff for the clip when the
- 4:05team
- 4:06posts it. So, it's like you want to be
- 4:07more proactive rather than reactive
- 4:09about clipping rather than just say
- 4:10like, all right, I'm going to do this
- 4:11live stream for 2 hours. Let's see if
- 4:12there's some good moments. Just kind of
- 4:13thinking about the moments ahead of time
- 4:15and trying to engineer them more
- 4:16proactively. Also, a format that works
- 4:20well is to begin with
- 4:22basically existing high-performing
- 4:23content. So, if you have,
- 4:25you know, hooks from other content that
- 4:26have worked well, weaving that into how
- 4:29you're starting the live stream has
- 4:31seemed to work and that's not super
- 4:32surprising
- 4:34because a strong hook is going to
- 4:36outperform a zero hook or an untested
- 4:38hook most times.
- 4:40Um
- 4:41Beyond that,
- 4:43we put on slow mode to prevent spam. So,
- 4:47that helped. We did heavy moderation to
- 4:49make sure that it's a good experience
- 4:50for you guys.
- 4:51So, we have four moderators and that's
- 4:53just to make sure all like the spammers
- 4:54and scammers are just like not in the
- 4:56chat, which is kind of annoying.
- 4:58We ask ask chat in general to focus on
- 5:01questions of a particular theme and that
- 5:03way the live stream could at least have
- 5:05some theme
- 5:06around it.
- 5:08If you have the ability to bring in some
- 5:10sort of cameo, so Layla's cameos and
- 5:12when I was on vacation with her almost
- 5:15all outperformed solo Alex. So, you
- 5:17know, I'll cry myself a river there.
- 5:19But, no, I think it's unsurprising that
- 5:21you would want to see Layla more than
- 5:22just me cuz I want to see Layla more
- 5:23than just me.
- 5:25Um
- 5:26Beyond that,
- 5:28let me see what else we have.
- 5:29Um
- 5:31Taking questions obviously from live
- 5:32stream chat, interaction with chat is
- 5:33the best form of engagement. That
- 5:34doesn't seem that surprising.
- 5:36Um
- 5:37Let's see here.
- 5:38Uh
- 5:39Reading
- 5:40the questions out loud seems to help.
- 5:42So, we try to do that.
- 5:44And then I'll I'll I'll finish with I
- 5:45think probably my biggest point here is
- 5:47that production does not matter. So this
- 5:51we're at my studio here in Vegas and so
- 5:53this is a fancy camera, but when I had
- 5:55my my iPhone and I was on vacation,
- 5:58uh
- 5:58it works just the same. And uh we did
- 6:00find out though as a small caveat that
- 6:03iPhone 17 and beyond uh basically the
- 6:05the mic and the camera on those
- 6:07specifically are good enough that you
- 6:09actually don't need any external mics uh
- 6:11whatsoever and it just was good enough
- 6:13that it worked. I did try to use the
- 6:15phone set up another time that it wasn't
- 6:17an iPhone 17 and the audio was a little
- 6:19bit shitty. So if you're going to like
- 6:22invest some money or you're about to do
- 6:23an upgrade for your phone, you can maybe
- 6:26give it as an another business write-off
- 6:27cuz you're like, "Well, I'm going to not
- 6:28livestream with it." Um and so that that
- 6:30makes this really easy cuz you don't
- 6:32need to have this fancy set up at all.
- 6:34Like I did it on vacation on purpose
- 6:35just sitting on a table with a tripod.
- 6:37Um and it worked pretty good. Um beyond
- 6:40that, I'll give you some post-production
- 6:41tips.
- 6:42So you want to trim as fast as you
- 6:44possibly can. Um obviously starting with
- 6:46the hooks and you want to think about it
- 6:48again as though it were a regular
- 6:49YouTube video. So do not assume that the
- 6:51audience who's coming in knows that it's
- 6:53a livestream nor do they really care
- 6:54that it was a livestream. They just want
- 6:55to make sure that value per second is
- 6:57still super high. Um and then that way
- 6:59you get the video you get the views from
- 7:00the live people in general, but then
- 7:02also you get kind of like the post live
- 7:04views which can sometimes double or
- 7:05triple the viewership of the livestream
- 7:07which is kind of cool. Um
- 7:09and then beyond that, just make sure
- 7:11that the audio doesn't suck. Uh you
- 7:12don't need uh like anything fancy beyond
- 7:15that. You don't need any color grading,
- 7:17uh any any fancy, you know, lighting
- 7:19whatsoever. I mean, it's super bright
- 7:20here, but it doesn't have to be uh in
- 7:22order for this to work. And so that was
- 7:24I would say the broad brushstrokes of
- 7:25the biggest lessons that we had that you
- 7:27can probably immediately use rather than
- 7:28just explaining like our internal
- 7:29processes that I get improved as a
- 7:30result of doing uh streams of life every
- 7:33day. If you like this video and you're a
- 7:34business owner who wants to break
- 7:35through your current revenue ceiling, I
- 7:37just sold every lesson from scaling 10
- 7:38businesses past 10 million and three
- 7:40businesses past 100 million into a
- 7:42completely free scaling roadmap that
- 7:44I've used to go from zero to one, zero
- 7:45to 10, and zero to 100 plus. And so, you
- 7:48can click here and you can check it out.
- 7:49Again, absolutely free, and since you're
- 7:51a business owner, I appreciate you, and
- 7:52enjoy.
