You Don't Need a Job First — Transcript

- 0:00So, Adam, I'm 22, want to build a
- 0:01multi-million dollar business, should I
- 0:02start now, feel forward and learn on the
- 0:04way, or spend one year just building
- 0:05skills, cash, and clarity?
- 0:06To me, those are one in the same. Um
- 0:09like you will build skills by failing.
- 0:12So,
- 0:13I would try and try and do stuff.
- 0:17Just being real. Like, do stuff,
- 0:19uh learn from it, and if you can make
- 0:22money while you're doing it, great. I
- 0:23think that for many people, one of the
- 0:25the wild like
- 0:26a huge leg up that you can have is
- 0:28working 1 to 3 years in the industry
- 0:30that you want to get into. Like,
- 0:32I think there's just there's huge upside
- 0:34there because you don't even know what
- 0:35you don't know, and you learn so many
- 0:36like
- 0:37default ways of operating because when
- 0:39you have to
- 0:40>> [clears throat]
- 0:41>> I'll give you an analogy. So, imagine
- 0:43you've got
- 0:44a pile of bricks, right? So, you've got
- 0:47this pile of bricks.
- 0:48All right, let's say that these bricks
- 0:50represent, you know, stuff that you can
- 0:52use to build. This is going to be a
- 0:53terrible pile of bricks, but whatever.
- 0:54Okay? And someone says, "Go build me a
- 0:56building." Right?
- 0:59So, you then try and assemble these
- 1:03bricks in a in a hundred different ways.
- 1:05And the thing is it's like, if you don't
- 1:06have directions on how to assemble those
- 1:08bricks, you're not going to know what
- 1:10assembly is the correct one for a
- 1:11building. And so, the thing is is that
- 1:13if you have an ideal building in mind,
- 1:15right?
- 1:17Then there may be
- 1:18a few ways that you can correctly
- 1:20assemble the bricks to get a building,
- 1:22but there's going to be way more ways to
- 1:23not assemble the bricks to make a
- 1:25building. And so, for me, I'd rather
- 1:27just like kind of like if you're
- 1:28building a building, like you're
- 1:30building an IKEA desk, right? If you
- 1:32don't have the directions and you have
- 1:33the pieces, you might eventually figure
- 1:35it out, but it's so much it takes so
- 1:38much more time than having a model to
- 1:40look at because you automatically know
- 1:42you're like, "Okay, well, first thing
- 1:43I'm going to do is I'm going to separate
- 1:43my tools over here, I'm going to put my
- 1:45screws over here, and then I'm going to
- 1:45put my my blocks over here. Great." So,
- 1:47it's the first thing. That's what you
- 1:48do. And then after that, you're like,
- 1:50"Okay, I'm going to look at this
- 1:51picture. There's got these four legs."
- 1:52And you're like, "Okay, let me put the
- 1:53leg number Let me flip it upside down.
- 1:54Let's put like one leg, two leg, three
- 1:55leg, leg four." And you're like, "Okay,
- 1:56it's almost looking like a table." But
- 1:58if you have no idea and you've never
- 1:59built a table before or you didn't build
- 2:00anything before,
- 2:01then it's way harder to do. And so
- 2:03that's why I think I would recommend
- 2:04make money,
- 2:06earn, and learn.
- 2:09One to three years. Like my first thing
- 2:10out of college, and like college is
- 2:11different now than it was then, but like
- 2:13like I did college for three years, and
- 2:15then I worked for two years, and then
- 2:18the next thing I did is I still didn't
- 2:19even start immediately. I then um
- 2:22started as like an apprentice at a gym
- 2:24cuz I wanted to get in the fitness
- 2:25business. So I went to a successful gym
- 2:26and I was like, "Hey, can I like work
- 2:27for free? Can I mop the floors?" And I
- 2:28was like a white-collar consultant. So I
- 2:30went from making I think
- 2:32I actually don't remember what I made. I
- 2:33know I had $50,000 in savings. Uh the
- 2:36reason it's like unclear is because I I
- 2:37got paid on contracts. It was like very
- 2:39lumpy. Anyways. Um
- 2:42But anyways, I uh
- 2:43he then basically started paying me
- 2:45minimum wage
- 2:46um to follow him around. But like an
- 2:48amazing ROI for me because he was like,
- 2:50"Oh yeah, like email marketing." And I
- 2:52was like, "What's that?" And he was
- 2:53like, "Oh, it's this whole thing,
- 2:54right?" And again, YouTube wasn't really
- 2:56like around the way that
- 2:58when I started doing this. Um and so I
- 3:00had to had to learn the hard way. So
- 3:02that being said, hopefully that helped
- 3:04uh for Adam in terms of thinking about
- 3:06what to do.
