- 0:00What
- 0:01have you learned about yourself from
- 0:03writing this most recent book?
- 0:10>> [snorts]
- 0:14>> The work needs doing.
- 0:16It's just like there's no way around it.
- 0:18Like it just has to be confronted.
- 0:21And I think it just like it just comes
- 0:22down to that. Is you just have to
- 0:24confront the work. And a lot of people
- 0:26put a lot of extra things between them
- 0:29and the work. That they try and
- 0:31romanticize. They try and create
- 0:32superstitions around it. They have all
- 0:34these fancy rain dances that they do.
- 0:37But like at the end of the day, the work
- 0:39doesn't care who you are.
- 0:41It just cares that it gets done.
- 0:43And I think in some way that's one of
- 0:45the great equalizers about product. Is
- 0:48that like
- 0:50in a lot of ways
- 0:52and this will probably be triggering to
- 0:53some people but like
- 0:55it doesn't matter who you are.
- 0:57Like in a in a fitness example
- 1:00500 pounds is 500 pounds. It doesn't
- 1:02care who you are.
- 1:04Like anyone like Arthur can pull the
- 1:06sword from the stone if you're strong
- 1:07enough, right? And so like there's a
- 1:10level of work that has to get put in to
- 1:12learn how to run ads. Level of work that
- 1:14has to get put in to learn how to
- 1:16to do cold calls. A level of work that
- 1:18has to get put in to learn how to be
- 1:20patient when someone's angry with you,
- 1:22right? Or how to run a team or how to
- 1:23stick your projects in Asana or whatever
- 1:26it is, right? Um
- 1:28and it doesn't matter whether you're
- 1:29old, you're young, you're male, you're
- 1:30female, you're black, white, Asian,
- 1:32whatever, right? It just needs doing.
- 1:34And I think that a lot of people waste a
- 1:36lot of time
- 1:38not starting.
- 1:40And so I I've told this analogy before.
- 1:42We've probably heard it but I'll say for
- 1:43your audience.
- 1:44Um
- 1:45there's a study there's probably a lot
- 1:47of studies been done on this but you can
- 1:48become proficient in any skill in about
- 1:4920 hours. So playing the piano, you
- 1:52know, riding a bike, whatever it is. 20
- 1:54hours of concentrated effort gets you
- 1:56proficient. It's the largest gain in
- 1:58skill improvement. It's 20 hours of
- 1:59concentrated effort.
- 2:01The problem is is that people will wait
- 2:03a decade to start the first hour.
- 2:06And so you'd be amazed at how much
- 2:07progress you can make if you cut down
- 2:09the time between when you
- 2:11acknowledge the work and when you start
- 2:12doing the work. And I think that over
- 2:14time in my career what has happened is
- 2:16just that my
- 2:17my delay between when I realize I need
- 2:19to do something and when I start doing
- 2:21it has just shrunk.
- 2:23So that I can get to the gain in
- 2:24proficiency that much faster. And then
- 2:26if you think about that over 10 years,
- 2:28right? Where one guy does nothing and
- 2:29then he starts, and another guy does 20
- 2:31hours and 20 hours and 20 hours and 20
- 2:33hours and 20 hours and 20 hours, by the
- 2:35end of that decade, they're not even
- 2:36recognizable. They're not even the same
- 2:37They're not even the same stratosphere.
- 2:39>> Yeah.
- 2:40>> Real quick, I'm going to show you the
- 2:41exact 10-stage roadmap from zero to 100
- 2:43million plus
- 2:45that less than 1% of companies finish
- 2:47I've now done multiple times, and so I
- 2:48can say with a lot of confidence that
- 2:50these are the stages as head count
- 2:51increases that you need to get through,
- 2:54and I broke each of these down by eight
- 2:56different functions of the business,
- 2:57what the constraint feels like, like
- 2:59what are the symptoms of it when you're
- 3:00going through it, and then what steps we
- 3:02actually took to graduate. And we've
- 3:03done this across software, physical
- 3:05products, uh service businesses,
- 3:07brick-and-mortar, all of this, and it
- 3:09works. And it's my gift to you. It's
- 3:11absolutely free. And so the link's in
- 3:12the description, but you just go
- 3:14acquisition.com/roadmap,
- 3:15just enter your info, and it'll spit it
- 3:16right back to you, all free.
