- 0:57Germany
- 1:01it's a long way from their home in
- 1:03Northern Iraq but at least they're safe
- 1:10here 3 years ago on the 3rd of August
- 1:132014 they were attacked by is Fighters
- 1:17many of their men were shot the women
- 1:19and children were
- 1:22captured a class was 14 at the time she
- 1:26and her family tried to escape up the
- 1:28mountain Mount sja but they couldn't run
- 1:30fast

- 1:45enough she was then kidnapped torn apart
- 1:49from her mother and locked in a prison
- 2:02[Music]
- 2:04she told me she saw things which will
- 2:06always haunt her things which I found
- 2:09very difficult to listen to
- 2:23[Music]
- 2:47we're not allowed to show you where the
- 2:49girls are living it's for their own
- 2:50safety many of their families are still
- 2:53in captivity but not far from here those
- 2:5617 yazidis are integrating into German
- 2:59societ Society many are even going to
- 3:01school here as they start the journey to
- 3:03rebuild their
- 3:05lives so we focus on certain emotions
- 3:09like love peace and joy to forget fear
- 3:13anxiety and other negative
- 3:16emotions and here to help them a team of
- 3:19mentors from across the
- 3:22world my joy is
- 3:25[Music]

- 3:29was only seven when is Fighters took his
- 3:32father and mother he hasn't seen his
- 3:34parents for 3 years but in the last
- 3:37month his mother has been spotted in a
- 3:39camp in Iraq after
- 3:43escaping during today's meditation he
- 3:46imagines that all his people are
- 3:48released and he sees himself reunited
- 3:51celebrating with his
- 3:53mother it's thought his father was
- 3:55killed by is Fighters the same fighters
- 3:58who kidnapped a
- 4:00and kept her a sex slave for six
- 4:28months
- 4:30foreign
- 4:34fore for

- 5:09so I'm telling them I want them to write
- 5:11down their dreams and their goals after
- 5:14all these girls have been through it
- 5:16will take years of specialist counseling
- 5:19today's art therapy session is just a
- 5:23start
- 5:25okay we can't show you this 13-year-old
- 5:29girl it's for her own protection she
- 5:32doesn't know if her parents are still
- 5:35alive yeah she too was captured by is
- 5:40and now only communicates by drawing and
- 5:47signing so Jacqueline tell me the
- 5:50difference you've seen the girls over
- 5:52the last few years incredible it's been
- 5:53incredible going from tears sadness no
- 5:57eye contact and now seeing leading this
- 5:59team is Jacqueline Isaac an American
- 6:02lawyer who spends much of her time
- 6:04advocating for women across the Middle
- 6:10East she was working in Iraq taking Aid
- 6:13to those yazidis who escaped from is by
- 6:16fleeing to mount sja a mountain close to
- 6:19their Villages where many were left
- 6:21stranded for
- 6:23months I met a mother and she was
- 6:26telling me about how her daughter was in
- 6:28captivity she didn't know what happened
- 6:30to her and she was saying can't you help
- 6:32you're a lawyer can't you help make your
- 6:34government go out there and get our
- 6:36girls make your government do something
- 6:38I didn't know what to
- 6:42do just days later in one of the
- 6:44villages below the mountain class
- 6:47managed to escape while her abuser was
- 6:49out
- 6:51fighting she was taken to a refuge Camp
- 6:54a few days later she met Jacqueline
- 6:57[Music]
- 7:09this footage was filmed just days after
- 7:12class's
- 7:17Escape when I first met her her head was
- 7:20down all of their heads were down there
- 7:23was no eye contact in the
- 7:26beginning it was a a a porch we were all
- 7:31sitting and remember thinking what do I
- 7:33say to them there were counselors that
- 7:35we had brought that were sitting on the
- 7:37right hand side on standby to give girls
- 7:39counseling and I remember thinking this
- 7:41is not the time for counseling yet this
- 7:43is the time to just recognize them as
- 7:45human beings the song she is looking for
- 7:48is song talking about what happened to
- 7:52her family and her people 3 months later
- 7:55eass moved again she's just one of
- 7:58thousands of yazid resettled by the
- 8:00German
- 8:03[Music]
- 8:09government they go to mainstream school
- 8:12with the rest of the town every
- 8:15day but their education doesn't solely
- 8:18take place in German
- 8:20[Music]
- 8:23classrooms good
- 8:25job good job Sam I am back where they
- 8:29live in the hospital as well as music
- 8:32therapy they're also being taught
- 8:33English by Jacqueline's
- 8:35team that's Sam I
- 8:38Am that's Sam I
- 8:41am okay I like despite living 6,000
- 8:45miles apart Jacqueline is dedicated to
- 8:48these girls visiting them every few
- 8:51months
- 8:54butterfly but even when she isn't with
- 8:56them she talks to them online every week
- 8:59and and two other girls still in Iraq
- 9:02when you look at all the recruits Isis
- 9:05recruits that are coming from all over
- 9:06the world how did they get into Iraq and
- 9:08Syria it all started with the internet
- 9:11they were being recruited online so what
- 9:13if we can reverse what was used as
- 9:16negative what if we can use the same
- 9:19tool to transform the lives of this next
- 9:22Generation in Iraq and Syria then we
- 9:24opened up a center in Iraq where over 40
- 9:27girls are now learning England
- 9:30through Skype through the
- 9:32internet by teachers who have
- 9:34volunteered their time every day the
- 9:38story was this is what's happened to me
- 9:40this is what's happened to my people we
- 9:42just want them to return that was it
- 9:44their life was just that
- 9:46story but now they're overcoming their
- 9:50story of the past and creating a story
- 9:53to Define their own future

- 10:02the class now knows her voice matters
- 10:05just last year she addressed our
- 10:07Parliament the result of her story The
- 10:09House of Commons unanimously declared
- 10:12yazidi victims of an Isis
- 10:16genocide she now wants to become a
- 10:18lawyer here in
- 10:21Germany would you like to go back to
- 10:23Iraq to live there
- 10:44these girls are now starting to live
- 10:46again but they're living with deep deep
- 10:49scars
