  3. 0:06ask bernie carrick to make a statement
  4. 0:07and i'll answer two questions before i
  5. 0:09go milwaukee first
  6. 0:13this interim progress report is not
  7. 0:15final
  8. 0:17extensive work remains to be done
  9. 0:20on his biological chemical and nuclear
  10. 0:22weapons programs
  11. 0:25but these findings already make clear
  12. 0:30that saddam hussein
  13. 0:33actively deceived the international
  14. 0:36community
  15. 0:38that saddam hussein was in clear
  16. 0:40violation of united nations security
  17. 0:42council resolution 1441 and that saddam
  18. 0:46hussein was a danger to the world
  19. 0:52they have done a lot of work in three
  20. 0:54months
  21. 0:55we had a clandestine network
  22. 0:57of biological laboratories
  23. 1:00sometimes the american people
  24. 1:04like the decisions they make sometimes
  25. 1:05they don't but they need to know i'll
  26. 1:07make tough decisions based upon what i
  27. 1:09think is right given the intelligence i
  28. 1:10know in order to do my job which is
  29. 1:13secure this country
  30. 1:15and to bring peace
  31. 1:16thank you all

  34. 1:32get a briefing
  35. 1:34from dr k
  36. 1:35we just want to find the truth
  37. 1:38it's not about fighting the battle of
  38. 1:40whether we should go into war not yet we
  39. 1:41want to find the truth we must protect
  40. 1:44the american people but one thing is
  41. 1:46certain
  42. 1:47whatever they find in three to six
  43. 1:50months from now they have not found the
  44. 1:53imminence of a threat it is clear again
  45. 1:56that there was time for more diplomatic
  46. 1:58efforts to be employed for us to have
  47. 2:00exhausted more remedies before we went
  48. 2:02to war
  49. 2:14well we've shared in the classified
  50. 2:16report about two dozen major cases
  51. 2:19of where iraq hit equipment or engaged
  52. 2:22in prohibited activities
  53. 2:24that were not permitted under the u.n
  54. 2:26resolution
  55. 2:27there is a large number of these in the
  56. 2:29missile area as you probably know
  57. 2:32a solid fuel program
  58. 2:34this isn't an issue about intentions
  59. 2:36or what the hopes were or what the plans
  60. 2:38were or what the programs were what took
  61. 2:41us to war were statements about
  62. 2:44weapons of mass destruction
  63. 2:46in the pres in the possession of saddam
  64. 2:48hussein and the threat of their imminent
  65. 2:50use so this report is valuable to all of
  66. 2:53us it should be read in its entirety
  67. 2:55it's not completed but it needs to also
  68. 2:58be consumed and to be accepted it seems
  69. 3:01to me and understood by the
  70. 3:02administration i must say that
  71. 3:05both the senator bird and i had an
  72. 3:07opportunity in the armed services
  73. 3:08committee
  74. 3:09to hear dr kate today
  75. 3:12in his classified debriefing and
  76. 3:16all i can say is
  77. 3:17i didn't believe there was an imminent
  78. 3:19threat to the united states when we went
  79. 3:21to war and i'm more convinced than other
  80. 3:23listening to him that there never was a
  81. 3:25threat either
  82. 3:31good morning i've just completed a uh it
  83. 3:33was a danger it was a danger to the
  84. 3:35world how clear and present it was
  85. 3:37people can judge we thought it was a
  86. 3:39danger to the world that had to be dealt
  87. 3:40with that's what the united states did
  88. 3:43in concert with a willing coalition of
  89. 3:45uh nations and the iraqi people are
  90. 3:48better off as a result the region is
  91. 3:51better off the world is better off and
  92. 3:53we're even more convinced with the k
  93. 3:55report that we did the right thing thank
