10. 0:21I do really really like True Crime and
11. 0:24[ __ ] of that nature um it's very
12. 0:26interesting to me just to figure out
13. 0:28what made somebody
14. 0:31do that and then try to continue on in
15. 0:35their lives like nothing ever happened
16. 0:36it's the strangest [ __ ] to me and I love
17. 0:38researching it and trying to figure out
18. 0:40what the hell happened but
19. 0:43um I do have one other video so far
20. 0:46planned out and like Rhett to go
21. 0:49so if this is something you're

37. 1:21today's video is over Diane dance who is
38. 1:24pretty Infamous
39. 1:26um sadly she uh she got quite a bit of
40. 1:31attention for her crimes which are
41. 1:34absolutely just
42. 1:35I don't know how a person lives with
43. 1:37themselves Diane dance was born
44. 1:39Elizabeth Diane Fredrickson and she was
45. 1:41born August 7 1955 in Phoenix Arizona
46. 1:44her parents Wes and willadine which is
47. 1:49a super cool name and I feel like they
48. 1:51should have kept on the W's West and
49. 1:53Willoughby anywho they said that Diane
50. 1:56had a pretty typical childhood although
51. 1:58she as she grew into like a teenager she
52. 2:02really really really
53. 2:03liked attention from men and boys alike
54. 2:08um so she was pretty flirty
55. 2:12in high school and everything but for
56. 2:15the most part they reported that she had
57. 2:16a typical childhood no big trauma or
58. 2:19anything to speak of when Diane was in
59. 2:22high school she actually met her future
60. 2:24husband Steve Downs they both attended
61. 2:26Moon Valley High School in Phoenix and
62. 2:30they did end up getting married in 1973
63. 2:33so she was 18 years old when they got
64. 2:36married which seems absurd to some of us
65. 2:40but I mean after they were married
66. 2:42Steven Diane did make a big move to
67. 2:45Oregon and in Oregon Diane actually
68. 2:47worked as a postal worker which was
69. 2:50weird they ended up having three
70. 2:51children Christian was the oldest Cheryl
71. 2:54Lynn was the middle child and then they
72. 2:56had one little boy who was the youngest
73. 2:58and his name was Stephen Daniel the
74. 3:00couple divorced in 1980
75. 3:02um
76. 3:03mainly because of
77. 3:06irreparable damage that Diane had caused
78. 3:09from multiple Affairs
79. 3:12um not being a very attentive attentive
80. 3:15wife or mother pretty much everyone that
81. 3:18uh news knew Diane and her children said
82. 3:21that everything came before her children
83. 3:23men came before her children what she
84. 3:26wanted to do became before them her job
85. 3:28came before them just everyone so they
86. 3:30they did end up divorced in 1980 and for
87. 3:33some reason
88. 3:34Diane kept full custody of all three of
89. 3:37the children reports also stated that
90. 3:39Diane was especially distant with the
91. 3:42middle child Cheryl
92. 3:44um for no discernible reason nobody
93. 3:47knows why exactly but she was reportedly
94. 3:49way more distant and way more
95. 3:53shitty to Cheryl there's really not a
96. 3:56different way to explain it
97. 3:57um like I said everyone said pretty much
98. 3:59that Diane put everything above her kids
99. 4:01she they were just kind of an
100. 4:03afterthought so Diane soon started an
101. 4:07affair with businessman whose name I
102. 4:10couldn't remember
103. 4:11I couldn't find his first name it is out
104. 4:14there but I I couldn't find it
105. 4:15Knickerbocker and everyone just called
106. 4:17him Nick
107. 4:19um the couple broke up when he made it
108. 4:20clear down the road that he had no
109. 4:23interest in children being in his life
110. 4:24whether they were his or his partner's
111. 4:27children he just there was nothing
112. 4:29specifically wrong with Diane's children
113. 4:31he just in general did not want children
114. 4:33did not want children in his life and
115. 4:37having an affair with a woman that has
116. 4:39three children is obviously not Kosher
117. 4:42it's not going to work so they did break
118. 4:44up after they broke up Diane Downs did
119. 4:47not
120. 4:48give up at all on Nick she actually
121. 4:53wrote in her journal on how much she
122. 4:55loved him how much she was obsessed with
123. 4:57him stating that she would do anything
124. 4:59to be with him in her journal she
125. 5:02constantly wrote how much she loved Nick
126. 5:04and how much she would do anything to be
127. 5:06with Nick and how much she did not want
128. 5:10to be a mother she did not want her
129. 5:11children if that meant she could not
130. 5:13have Nick
131. 5:14which all kind of goes back to you
132. 5:16should put everything and everyone above
133. 5:17her children including herself in her
134. 5:19romantic relationships so in this
135. 5:21journal basically she ran through
136. 5:23everything in her life all of her
137. 5:25feelings over her ex
138. 5:27her ex-husband
139. 5:31um Affairs that she has had and
140. 5:33everything about how much she does not
141. 5:36like her children she she can't stand
142. 5:38them they're ruining her life they're
143. 5:40holding her back she can't be with the
144. 5:42man she loves because she has children
145. 5:43from a man that she no longer loves so
146. 5:46it just was nothing was really adding up
147. 5:49good for Diana in her life
148. 5:52not to say that what she did was in any
149. 5:55way excusable because it absolutely was
150. 5:57not
151. 5:58so now we need to move on to what
152. 6:01actually happened now that you have a
153. 6:02little bit of background on Diane on May
154. 6:0519th in 1983 Diane arrived at the
155. 6:08McKinsey Williamette Hospital in
156. 6:10Springfield Oregon she stated that her
157. 6:13and her three children had been shot by
158. 6:15a random man out on a back road Diane
159. 6:18had herself been shot in the arm
160. 6:22she had wrapped a towel around her own
161. 6:24arm and you know she had came into the
162. 6:26ER and immediately you know all the
163. 6:28Personnel went out to the car because
164. 6:30she stated that her three children had
165. 6:32also been injured in this shooting
166. 6:35um when when medical staff got out to
167. 6:38the car all three children were in the
168. 6:41car and present
169. 6:42um of the three children Cheryl which
170. 6:44was the middle child was Dead on Arrival
171. 6:47she had died from her injuries and Danny
172. 6:51and Christy were both in critical con
173. 6:53condition suspicions began when police
174. 6:57and staff noted how calm Diane was
175. 7:00um from the time she walked into the
176. 7:02hospital to
177. 7:04everything going on with her children I
178. 7:06mean one of her children had already
179. 7:08been pronounced dead and she still
180. 7:09remained calm she was joking with
181. 7:11medical staff
182. 7:13she had wrapped her own injury with a
183. 7:15towel but had done nothing to Aid her
184. 7:17three children she just remained eerily
185. 7:20calm and even if you don't have children
186. 7:22you could imagine anybody in your life
187. 7:24that you care about being attacked and
188. 7:26shot you would not be calm
189. 7:28um any sane person
190. 7:30if you witness something like that
191. 7:32something that violent you would not be
192. 7:35calm you would be panicking and
193. 7:36especially if those were your children
194. 7:39I couldn't even imagine I wouldn't be
195. 7:43feral I would not know what to do with
196. 7:45myself while Diane's oldest and her
197. 7:48youngest children Christy and Danny were
198. 7:50fighting for their lives Diane sat down
199. 7:52with police
200. 7:54and started to go through her story
201. 7:57Diane stated that they were traveling
202. 7:59down a deserted back road at about 10
203. 8:01o'clock at night with all three of her
204. 8:02children and there was an
205. 8:05African-American man just in the middle
206. 8:06of the road on this deserted Back Road
207. 8:08she stated that the kids were asleep in
208. 8:11the back and decided to make sure that
209. 8:13the man was okay so Diane said she
210. 8:15pulled over and the man had a gun and
211. 8:18was threatening her and told her to get
212. 8:20out of the car that he was going to take
213. 8:22it after arguing with the man on the
214. 8:24side of the road she said she threw like
215. 8:28fake through the keys out to the side of
216. 8:31the road and when the man went for the
217. 8:35keys she jumped in the car and started
218. 8:37the ignition before she could pull off
219. 8:38she stated that the man ran into the car
220. 8:40and shot four shots into the vehicle
221. 8:43hitting
222. 8:44all three children and Diane Diane then
223. 8:47said she sped off like a mad woman and
224. 8:50raced to the hospital as
225. 8:53desired it still on this back road
226. 8:56so
227. 8:57first and foremost before we get into
228. 8:59the actual investigation of this case
229. 9:01let's just on our own as not law
230. 9:05enforcement
231. 9:06point out a few holes
232. 9:08what single woman granted this was in
233. 9:10the 80s and things were not nearly um
234. 9:14as I don't know popular like stranger
235. 9:17danger and safety
236. 9:19um but what single woman in their right
237. 9:22mind
238. 9:23would pull over for a hitchhiker with
239. 9:25three kids in the back seat I'm not
240. 9:27going to say anything like a lot of
241. 9:28people have pointed out why was she on a
242. 9:30back road with all three children
243. 9:32that late at night I have been known not
244. 9:36so much now that my child is older she
245. 9:37is four but when she was a little bit
246. 9:39younger and we were having issues with
247. 9:41her going to sleep I'm not gonna lie we
248. 9:42would go out and just drive around
249. 9:44because the car seat soothed my child
250. 9:46but her children were older
251. 9:50um and I'm not gonna poke holes in that
252. 9:53I will have a poke a hole in why would a
253. 9:55single woman with three children pull
254. 9:57over on a deserted back road for a
255. 10:00random man
256. 10:02that that has been hammered into my head
257. 10:05my entire life and especially since I
258. 10:08have an interest in interest in True
259. 10:10Crime as well as my mom I have always
260. 10:13been taught you do not pull over for
261. 10:15somebody even if it's a police officer
262. 10:18and you don't feel safe you do not pull
263. 10:20over to you are in a well-lit populated
264. 10:22area so
265. 10:25that's a that's one issue the next issue
266. 10:27is how she was remaining so calm while
267. 10:29she was talking to police she was joking
268. 10:31around with the hospital staff and
269. 10:33police
270. 10:34while she was telling the story of how
271. 10:36her and her three children had been
272. 10:37brutally attacked one child was already
273. 10:40dead and the other two were in critical
274. 10:41condition
275. 10:44who does that
276. 10:47we'll move on so when the police went
277. 10:49out to this back deserted road that
278. 10:50Diane claimed she was on they did find
279. 10:52casings from a 22 gun but they found no
280. 10:55other evidence they had
281. 10:57they they came up empty other than shell
282. 11:00casings they found no
283. 11:02evidence of another person being there
284. 11:06and it was just a stretch of empty Back
285. 11:09Road there was nothing there to be found
286. 11:11at the hospital while Christy and Danny
287. 11:13were fighting for their lives Diane
288. 11:16continued to calmly retell her story to
289. 11:18police and Hospital staff and eventually
290. 11:21the media because obviously the media is
291. 11:24going to show up if four people have
292. 11:25been attacked one's already been
293. 11:27pronounced dead
294. 11:28because you just don't hear of that very
295. 11:30often especially in the 80s that's just
296. 11:32not a common thing to happen amid the
297. 11:35investigation Diane Dan Dan's ex-husband
298. 11:38and Nick so Steve Downs her ex-husband
299. 11:42and the children of her father and Nick
300. 11:43her ex
301. 11:45lover that she was having an affair with
302. 11:47both told police that Diane did in fact
303. 11:50own a 22 caliber gun and mistreated the
304. 11:53children and generally treated them like
305. 11:55an afterthought Knickerbocker also
306. 11:57informed the police that Diane Downs had
307. 12:00threatened his wife because he was
308. 12:03married and stated that he would get rid
309. 12:06of her children if it meant that they
310. 12:08could get back together
311. 12:11police couldn't understand the events
312. 12:14that Diane was recalling and actually
313. 12:16had her reenact
314. 12:18that night and there is video of it out
315. 12:21on the internet if you would like to you
316. 12:23can research on your own you can Google
317. 12:24and you can find it it is public
318. 12:27it is public knowledge that this video
319. 12:29exists during this video which
320. 12:34as a mother I could see myself agreeing
321. 12:37to reenact something if the police
322. 12:39needed that to understand what had
323. 12:40happened more
324. 12:42but that would be very traumatic to
325. 12:44reenact what should be the most painful
326. 12:48night of your life your three children
327. 12:50have been shot one of them is dead you
328. 12:52have been shot that should be a very
329. 12:55somber day in your life
330. 12:59however when police and Diane were in a
331. 13:01parking lot with a car
332. 13:03and video cameras and they were
333. 13:05recording this and Diane was acting out
334. 13:07what had happened she she can be seen on
335. 13:11the video primping fixing her hair
336. 13:14checking how she looks she's laughing
337. 13:16she's goofing off with police officers
338. 13:18and the police officers are even like
339. 13:21confused by her behavior they're taken
340. 13:24aback by it because
341. 13:26who who acts like that when you're
342. 13:29reenacting a brutal brutal thing that
343. 13:33happened in your life and to your
344. 13:34children
345. 13:36after this video is taking
346. 13:39um Diane is continuously doing
347. 13:40interviews with the media
348. 13:43um proclaiming her innocence because the
349. 13:45nation is pretty much split into did she
350. 13:48do this or did she not do this police
351. 13:50are very suspicious of her and about
352. 13:53there's a good amount of people that are
353. 13:56suspicious of her and think that she has
354. 13:58shot her children and tried to kill them
355. 13:59and succeeded in killing one
356. 14:02so Diane is doing all these interviews
357. 14:04with the media stating that she would
358. 14:06never do this if she had tried to kill
359. 14:08her children wouldn't she have done a
360. 14:10better job and made sure they were dead
361. 14:12would she have uh driven driven so
362. 14:15quickly to the hospital for attention
363. 14:17for medical attention for her children
364. 14:19and she will not shut up she's talking
365. 14:23to anybody that wants an interview she's
366. 14:25talking to all these police officers
367. 14:27and she's just not really paying
368. 14:30attention to the two children that are
369. 14:32alive in critical condition she's too
370. 14:34busy doing all these interviews so
371. 14:37after Christy who is the oldest daughter
372. 14:40recovered enough
373. 14:42from her injuries which her her injuries
374. 14:46caused her to have a stroke and it took
375. 14:48her a really long time to recover she
376. 14:50had to learn how to walk how to talk and
377. 14:52how to communicate with people but when
378. 14:53she had finally recovered enough that
379. 14:55she could have visitors the police
380. 14:57brought Diane Downs into the room to
381. 15:00visit with her Elders oldest daughter
382. 15:02now you would expect this to be a
383. 15:06tearful reunion
384. 15:08um very joyous moment that you know your
385. 15:10child is alive it was not Diane walked
386. 15:13in the room and obviously
387. 15:16obviously Crystal was attached to a
388. 15:18mentioned medical equipment one of those
389. 15:20being a heart monitor and as soon as
390. 15:22Christy saw Diane her blood pressure
391. 15:25shot up her paws shot up she visibly
392. 15:28panicked and
393. 15:31that would lead anybody to believe that
394. 15:34she was afraid of her mother
395. 15:37had this been a typical parent and child
396. 15:39relationship you could imagine that the
397. 15:42daughter would have been super excited
398. 15:43to see her mom after she's been on the
399. 15:44hospital she's scared she's hurt but
400. 15:48she's not she's utterly just in a panic
401. 15:51from the sight of Diane
402. 15:55that should have been a huge red flag
403. 15:57and it was for the police police
404. 16:00eventually do end up getting a warrant
405. 16:02for Diane's house and though they did
406. 16:05not find a 22 gun they found shell
407. 16:09casings and these shell casings were for
408. 16:11a 22 firearm and they matched the
409. 16:15showcasings from the scene and the
410. 16:17showcasings that had obviously been used
411. 16:19to shoot herself and her three children
412. 16:21so they also gathered reports from
413. 16:25witnesses that were actually out on the
414. 16:27road the same night that the the
415. 16:29shooting had happened and they stated
416. 16:31that Diane Downs was driving
417. 16:34ridiculously slow people were stating
418. 16:37that they were passing her and honking
419. 16:39at her and that she was allegedly going
420. 16:41about five miles per hour this is on the
421. 16:44way to the hospital after she and her
422. 16:46children had been shot
423. 16:49that's a pretty big problem
424. 16:51um especially since Diane was adamant
425. 16:53adamant Adam adamant that she did not do
426. 16:56this she drove like a mad woman she was
427. 16:59swerving and speeding and doing
428. 17:00everything she could to get to the
429. 17:02hospital as quickly as she could and now
430. 17:04there are people coming out saying she
431. 17:06was going so slow that they didn't even
432. 17:08think she was going five miles an hour
433. 17:10Diane Downs was eventually finally
434. 17:14arrested on February 28th in 1994 so
435. 17:17this has been a very very long time
436. 17:19coming
437. 17:21Diane did maintain her innocence
438. 17:23throughout her trial
439. 17:25um even though there were
440. 17:27there was so much evidence against her
441. 17:30and her surviving daughter Christy the
442. 17:33oldest did recover enough from her
443. 17:35injuries that she actually testified
444. 17:38against Diane
445. 17:40she got up on the stand and stated my
446. 17:44mom shot my brother my sister and myself
447. 17:48and then shot herself
448. 17:55I could not imagine so that should have
449. 17:58been
450. 17:59the final nail in the coffin
451. 18:01during the trial actually Diane showed
452. 18:04up pregnant
453. 18:05yeah
454. 18:06she stated that she got pregnant um
455. 18:08there was actual interview footage of
456. 18:10Diane stating
457. 18:12children are easy to conceive I miss my
458. 18:15children so I decided to have another
459. 18:16one I miss being a mom as if her two
460. 18:19children were not already alive still
461. 18:23thank you
462. 18:24so during her trial not only has her
463. 18:26child pointed the finger at her and
464. 18:28testified under oath
465. 18:31and Christy was old enough to understand
466. 18:32what lies were and everything
467. 18:34under oath pointed at her mom and said
468. 18:36yeah my mom did this my mom killed my
469. 18:39sister and and tried to kill my brother
470. 18:41and I
471. 18:43Diane is at this exact moment in the
472. 18:46trial pregnant Diane did actually
473. 18:48deliver a daughter
474. 18:51um named Becky while she was in custody
475. 18:53the child was obviously immediately
476. 18:56taken from Diane and she was adopted by
477. 18:58a loving family as Becky got older she
478. 19:01actually discovered the truth
479. 19:03of who her birth mother was
480. 19:06um and she had a lot of issues and it
481. 19:07took her a very long time to accept that
482. 19:10Diane was her birth mother and moved
483. 19:12past that and work through it and I
484. 19:15can't blame her I I think anyone would
485. 19:17have an issue with that
486. 19:19so on June 17 1984 Diane Downs was found
487. 19:24guilty on all charges she was sentenced
488. 19:27to life in prison with the eligibility
489. 19:31for parole plus 50 years
490. 19:34I don't know about you but I absolutely
491. 19:36love it when people are sentenced to
492. 19:39life it's even better when it's life
493. 19:41without parole plus more years it
494. 19:46they are gonna make sure that they never
495. 19:48get out of prison I love it when our
496. 19:50legal system does that obviously Diane
497. 19:52is not happy with the outcome of her
498. 19:54child she has been found guilty she has
499. 19:55been sentenced to prison for the rest of
500. 19:58her natural born life even though she
501. 20:00was eligible for parole Diane's two
502. 20:03surviving children her oldest daughter
503. 20:05Christy and her only son Danny did make
504. 20:07a full recovery from their injuries not
505. 20:09to state that they live fully normal
506. 20:11lives they do have lifelong effects from
507. 20:14this
508. 20:15horrific thing their supposed mother did
509. 20:18to them but they were actually adopted
510. 20:20by Fred huge who was the prosecutor in
511. 20:23Diane's trial so they went to a happy
512. 20:26loving home Fred and his wife did raise
513. 20:28her two surviving children and they did
514. 20:32after a lot of therapy they have moved
515. 20:35on and they live very happy full lives
516. 20:38and I wish I could say this was the end
517. 20:40of Diane's story but it is not
518. 20:42um
519. 20:44in 1987 Diane Downs escaped prison
520. 20:51she escaped
521. 20:53she
522. 20:54she got out
523. 20:57um obviously this was a huge problem and
524. 20:59after 10 days 10 days of this woman
525. 21:02missing
526. 21:04missing
527. 21:06from a federal prison
528. 21:08she was found she was captured in Salem
529. 21:12Oregon and returned they added five
530. 21:14additional years to her already massive
531. 21:16sentence and she was transferred to New
532. 21:18Jersey and then in 1994 She was
533. 21:21transferred out to California
534. 21:23Diane Downs is still alive to this day
535. 21:26in California and she she's still
536. 21:31she still climbs her innocence
537. 21:33after all of that she still claims her
538. 21:35innocence she still does interviews with
539. 21:38the media when they are offered
540. 21:40um and she she still states that she did
541. 21:43not do this so Not only was there a
542. 21:46massive
543. 21:47huge outpouring from the nation
544. 21:52over this case how can a mother do this
545. 21:54how could anybody do this but a mother
546. 21:58you are literally you made that human
547. 22:01being How could a mother do this to her
548. 22:03children
549. 22:04the fact that even after all this
550. 22:06overwhelming evidence is stacked against
551. 22:08her and she's still to this day claims
552. 22:12that she did not do this after her own
553. 22:14daughter
554. 22:16her own daughter testified that she did
555. 22:18this
556. 22:20Diane Down Still states that she is
557. 22:22innocent obviously she has been
558. 22:25um she's been assessed by several
559. 22:28psychiatrists and they have diagnosed
560. 22:31her as um
561. 22:33having some serious behavioral issues
562. 22:36and she is a narcissist and
563. 22:39she will likely never admit to what she
564. 22:42has done but in my opinion there is
565. 22:45no other explanation there is no other
566. 22:48there's nobody else to point the finger
567. 22:50at
568. 22:52I
569. 22:53the gun that Diane used was never found
570. 22:57and I just
571. 23:00what do you even say and in the last few
572. 23:04years since covet has hit um Diane has
573. 23:06done interviews stating that she's
574. 23:09worried about Christy and Danny because
575. 23:12when she looks at the map she knows
576. 23:14where they are in the general like the
577. 23:16general area and she is worried about
578. 23:18their safety and she hopes they're okay
579. 23:20obviously
580. 23:22um I think that is all for media
581. 23:24attention there is no way she actually
582. 23:26cares about those two individuals I just
583. 23:29can't
584. 23:30I can't
585. 23:31Diane Downs is quite possibly one of the
586. 23:34worst mothers to go down in history
587. 23:37um I think she deserves every single
588. 23:39solitary day she has
589. 23:41um left on this Earth
590. 23:43I think she deserves to serve them in
591. 23:45prison she has been up for parole a few
592. 23:47times and very very obviously she has
593. 23:51been denied parole
594. 23:52I think it's very unlikely that Diane
595. 23:55Downs will ever be a free woman again
596. 23:56and I think that's a good thing what do
597. 23:59we take away from this case
598. 24:00uh Diane Downs is a trash human being
599. 24:05I don't think there's any other way to
600. 24:07describe this woman Steve Downs is
601. 24:09honestly
602. 24:12I I couldn't quite figure out why Steve
603. 24:14Downs didn't get custody of the two
604. 24:17surviving children
605. 24:19but I digress so that is the story of
606. 24:23Diane Downs and her
607. 24:25unbearably
608. 24:27selfish ways
609. 24:30there were other ways to go about this
610. 24:34um if you didn't want your children
611. 24:36anymore if you were too busy
612. 24:39um chasing a man
613. 24:41obviously Diane Downs is just trash as a
614. 24:44human being I can't imagine
615. 24:47how anybody let alone the mother of the
616. 24:50children could do this
617. 24:52um
618. 24:54I can't oh I don't think I mentioned it
619. 24:58um she was shot in the arm in a spot

630. 25:26she was over being a mom she didn't want
631. 25:28her children she wanted to go chase some
632. 25:30random guy
633. 25:31that's her prerogative there were other
634. 25:34things she could have done she could
635. 25:36have reached out to somebody they had a
636. 25:38father they have a father still
637. 25:41um
638. 25:42her her choice should not have been to
639. 25:45murder her children because that is just
640. 25:48how do you do that how do you live with
641. 25:50yourself and Diane is still very full of
642. 25:52herself
643. 25:54um yeah so that is the story of Diane
644. 25:57Downs and her trash existence and what
645. 26:00she did to her three children
646. 26:02and
647. 26:03I don't even know what else to say if
