- 0:00I'm Sergeant Ramsey. I'm I'm the one
- 0:01that called you. Thank you for coming.
- 0:03I'm sorry to call you. Listen, we had a
- 0:04report of a disturbance at your house
- 0:06and there were shots fired. Is your
- 0:08husband, Michael?
- 0:10>> Okay. I'm sorry to tell you, ma'am. He's
- 0:11been killed.
- 0:13>> He's been killed, man. I'm sorry.
- 0:15>> No, he's not.
- 0:16>> Listen.
- 0:16>> No. No.
- 0:18>> Try to calm down.
- 0:19>> This is Dalia Depalo. She is getting the
- 0:21news of her husband being killed. Or at
- 0:23least that's what she hoped to hear. On
- 0:26a humid August morning in 2009 in Boon
- 0:29Beach, Florida, she left her condo for
- 0:31the gym, believing a murder for hire
- 0:34plot was finally about to play out. Her
- 0:37husband, Michael Depalo, a convicted
- 0:39fraudster trying to rebuild his life,
- 0:41was supposed to be shot inside their
- 0:43home in what looked like a robbery gone
- 0:45[music] wrong. What Dalia didn't know
- 0:47was that the hitman she'd hired was
- 0:50actually an undercover detective. And
- 0:52every meeting, [music] every payment,
- 0:54and every word about wanting her husband
- 0:56dead had been recorded on hidden
- 0:58cameras.
- 0:59>> Like at the house, like how do we how do
- 1:01we how soon could you do it?
- 1:04>> Wednesday morning, you know, he gets two
- 1:06in the head. That's it. You know, I take
- 1:08a couple things with me, break a couple
- 1:09windows, make it look like a robbery
- 1:11that went bad. It's all over. I'm gone
- 1:13out of there.
- 1:14>> I'm a lot tougher than what I look. I
- 1:16know you like, "Oh, what a cute little
- 1:18girl." Whatever. But I'm not.
- 1:20>> Yeah, you are. Oh, you're actually
- 1:21beautiful.
- 1:22>> Thank you. But I know it's I just need
- 1:24to make sure everything's been taken
- 1:26care of.
- 1:27>> And so you just had surgery where
- 1:28>> his back. All right. Okay. So you're not
- 1:31going to be able to move.
- 1:33>> He won't be able to like I mean he walks
- 1:34[music] fine and everything like that,
- 1:36but I mean, you know, it's going to be
- 1:37like a little bit of a struggle
- 1:40>> between now and when it's done. You
- 1:42know, you have to have an option to
- 1:44change your mind. Even if you change
- 1:45your mind, you're not talking.
- 1:46>> There's no changing. No, there's no like
- 1:49I'm determined already. I'm positive
- 1:51like 5,000% Charlotte.
- 1:53>> By the time you get back from the gym,
- 1:55you going to find two things. Dead body
- 1:57in the house. All right.
- 1:58>> She even planned an alibi.
- 1:59>> I'll go to boa or I'll go somewhere.
- 2:01I'll
- 2:02>> like an alibi to be somewhere when it
- 2:05happens.
- 2:05>> Yeah. I'll go get my hair done or
- 2:06something or I'll I'll be somewhere but
- 2:08I need to go out of town. I never go
- 2:10anywhere right away. Everyone's going to
- 2:11be like, "Oh, what a coincidence. You
- 2:13never go anywhere and the day you leave
- 2:14it happen."
- 2:16>> So, okay. after he kills or whatever.
- 2:18Your mom and all of them are not going
- 2:20to like [music] his mom is not going to
- 2:21suspicious of you or anything like that.
- 2:23>> Why me? Like, do you know what somebody
- 2:25is? Yeah, but killing somebody, come on.
- 2:27I mean, that's, you know, nobody's going
- 2:30to be able to point a finger at me.
- 2:32>> Going to tell him like these guys went
- 2:33in like you've been bumping into guys.
- 2:35I'm going to tell him about the guy at
- 2:36Target that we ran into the weird guy
- 2:38that lives in our neighborhood too
- 2:39that's on probation for something else.
- 2:41I'm going to throw all their
- 2:42>> police secretly moved Michael to safety,
- 2:44then staged a fake crime scene with
- 2:46cruisers, tape, and TV cameras rolling.
- 2:49When Dalia arrived, she appeared to
- 2:51break down after being told her husband
- 2:53had been killed, only to be taken to the
- 2:55station for questioning. In the
- 2:57interrogation room, she tried to shift
- 2:59suspicion toward Michael's criminal past
- 3:02and supposed enemies, unaware that
- 3:04officers were about to reveal the truth.
- 3:06Her husband was alive, the hitman was a
- 3:09cop, and her own recorded conversations
- 3:11were about to close in on her. Let's
- 3:14take a look.
- 3:15>> Protocol that we have to do with this,
- 3:16which you're going to advise your
- 3:19rights, so you know, okay? If you don't
- 3:22understand any of them, you just tell me
- 3:24and I'll stop and repeat. First of all,
- 3:26let me just tell you, I'm sorry for your
- 3:28loss.
- 3:29>> I just want to see my husband, please.
- 3:31>> All right, honey.
- 3:33>> I love you. No, no, you don't want to
- 3:36see him.
- 3:39>> Believe me, [gasps and laughter]
- 3:41you don't. Could you listen, please? I'm
- 3:44required to warn you before you make any
- 3:46statement that you have the following
- 3:47constitutional rights. And as I say,
- 3:49this is protocol.
- 3:51If you don't understand them, tell me
- 3:52you don't understand. I'll explain them
- 3:54to you. Okay?
- 3:56You have the right to remain silent and
- 3:58not answer any questions. You understand
- 4:00that? Just you have to answer me. I
- 4:03understand.
- 4:03>> So say yes.
- 4:04>> Yeah.
- 4:05>> Any statement you make must be freely
- 4:06and voluntarily given. Do you understand
- 4:08that?
- 4:10>> If you have a you have the right to the
- 4:12presence and representation of lawyer
- 4:13your choice where you make any statement
- 4:15during any question. You understand
- 4:16that?
- 4:16>> Yes sir.
- 4:18>> If you cannot afford a lawyer, you are
- 4:20entitled to the presence and
- 4:21representation of court lawyer for you
- 4:23to make any statement during any
- 4:24questions. Do you understand that?
- 4:26>> Yes.
- 4:27>> If at any time during the interview do
- 4:29not wish to answer any questions, I'm
- 4:30going to remain silent. Do you
- 4:31understand that? I can make no threats
- 4:34or promises to induce you to make a
- 4:35statement. This must be of your own free
- 4:37will. Do you understand that? Any
- 4:39statement can be will be used against
- 4:41you in court of law. Do you understand
- 4:42that? I'm going to ask you to sign it
- 4:46and date it. And I'll have Detective
- 4:48Anderson as a witness. Okay. Sign where
- 4:50the X is, please.
- 4:55>> I'll go ahead and date it, D.
- 5:00>> Okay. It's uh
- 5:03the time the timeline.
- 5:05Okay. This is a
- 5:08this is something because we're going to
- 5:10videotape that I need you to sign also.
- 5:12It gives us the right video. You want to
- 5:14read that?
- 5:15>> I don't want to be videotaped.
- 5:17>> Well, you're being videotaped. That's
- 5:19all part of it.
- 5:28>> Whose number is that?
- 5:30That's your home number.
- 5:32>> Oh,
- 5:35>> we got that from our reports that have
- 5:37been filed here.
- 5:42>> And then I'll I'll tell you what's going
- 5:44on here.
- 5:47Okay.
- 5:49Listen. Is there anybody that you know
- 5:52that you think would want to kill your
- 5:54husband?
- 5:55>> This is on probation.
- 5:57>> For what?
- 6:00He's stock fraud.
- 6:02>> Stock fraud. How long have you been on
- 6:04probation? Probation. Is he spending
- 6:06time in prison? How much?
- 6:11>> First thing the detective did is he
- 6:12miranderized her to make this official.
- 6:15While Dalia thinks this is just because
- 6:16her husband has been killed, they are
- 6:18questioning her and interrogating
- 6:20knowing that she ordered a hit.
- 6:22you know,
- 6:23>> um,
- 6:25two years in prison and five years on
- 6:28probation going on to six years.
- 6:30>> Oh my god. And what was that for?
- 6:33>> It was for [clears throat] taking money.
- 6:35It was
- 6:36>> like, he explained it like boiler room
- 6:38kind of where they would take money from
- 6:40people towards things,
- 6:43>> you know. How How long have you guys
- 6:44been married?
- 6:46>> Not even a year.
- 6:49>> This is tragic.
- 6:51Is there anybody you could think of that
- 6:54would want to do this to him?
- 6:55>> I was telling the officers we've had
- 6:57problems already and
- 6:59>> what sort of
- 7:00>> he's been trying to get off probation
- 7:02>> and it's just been nothing but problems
- 7:05the whole time that he's been trying to
- 7:07get off um
- 7:11people weren't happy that he was getting
- 7:12off probation because it's a lot of
- 7:14money he's got to pay back.
- 7:15>> Well, when you say people, who are you
- 7:17talking about?
- 7:18people that were involved with him
- 7:20before or
- 7:21>> a little bit of everything. This was
- 7:22supposed to be something. When he got
- 7:24off probation, it was supposed to be
- 7:25between us and he went and he told, you
- 7:27know, friends of his, he told, you know,
- 7:29certain people and everyone kind of
- 7:31talks and he's constantly running into a
- 7:33lot of the guys that he was on probation
- 7:35with like a couple days ago. We ran into
- 7:37someone and that was a target. I mean,
- 7:41you know, and the guy comes up to us and
- 7:42he's like with organized crime. It seems
- 7:44like a lot of the guys from Bokeh are
- 7:46starting to move up here and we're
- 7:47constantly running into, you know what I
- 7:50mean? A lot of the guys that he he knows
- 7:52and things like that. [snorts] So, it
- 7:54was a lot of money. It was $191,000
- 7:58that he [clears throat] had to pay back.
- 8:00>> So, we were going to go ahead and he had
- 8:03the money to pay off the probation,
- 8:05everything like that. And then, I guess
- 8:07somehow when he went away, some guys
- 8:10didn't go away. They left.
- 8:12>> You mean went away? went to prison,
- 8:14>> right?
- 8:14>> Okay.
- 8:15>> They left the country and so somehow he
- 8:18was dealing with some of those guys
- 8:20because they thought that he owed them
- 8:22and
- 8:23>> I don't know something with that that he
- 8:25was taking care of. So the money that he
- 8:28used to get off of probation, he never
- 8:31>> he never he never did it. He did
- 8:34something else with that with that
- 8:35money.
- 8:35>> Now, do you know any of these people
- 8:37their names or anything like that or
- 8:38where they may live so that we may be
- 8:40able to follow it up? We're not going to
- 8:42>> We're not going to implicate you.
- 8:44>> The guys that left, I don't know.
- 8:47>> You don't know?
- 8:48>> I don't know them. You never know?
- 8:50>> No. I mean, I know the guy that we ran
- 8:51into a couple days ago. I I know like I
- 8:54know certain names, you know what I
- 8:55mean? And I know certain families. They
- 8:57were on the news. Like the guys that all
- 8:58just went away.
- 8:59>> Mhm.
- 9:01>> I forget what family.
- 9:02>> See, I Brian and I in the squad that I
- 9:05only work major crimes. We only work
- 9:07murders or homicides and and very
- 9:11serious assaults and kidnappings and
- 9:13police shootings and things like we only
- 9:15specialize in that. We don't we don't
- 9:17work anything else. So, I wouldn't know
- 9:18about
- 9:20the money that he may have been involved
- 9:22in or anything else. Why I'm asking if
- 9:24you know any names and we can run these
- 9:26guys down and see what they know.
- 9:27>> Well, another those group of guys, they
- 9:30all went away, but he's saying one of
- 9:31them I guess somehow he had a problem. I
- 9:33don't know what problem he had. It was
- 9:35before we met. He ran into one of these
- 9:37guys and the guy he thought he owed him
- 9:39something or something happened, but
- 9:42they went away. I don't know if the one
- 9:44guy that I'm telling you about, Pasqual,
- 9:47if he also went away or if he did it.
- 9:50But this just happened like a month and
- 9:51a half ago. They all got arrested
- 9:53against the same stock fraud stuff
- 9:55again.
- 9:55>> His first name Pasqual or last
- 9:57>> I don't know.
- 9:58>> Is it Pasquali or Pasqual?
- 9:59>> Pasqual.
- 10:01>> Okay. What nationality are you? Spanish.
- 10:04My mom's from Peru and my dad's from
- 10:05Egypt.
- 10:06>> Wow.
- 10:07>> Yeah.
- 10:10>> All right. There's uh I understand you
- 10:12got a couple animals at your house, too,
- 10:14right?
- 10:15>> So, um I guess I want to tell you
- 10:17everything the whole kind of knowing.
- 10:21>> I do. I want to know.
- 10:22>> So, that's what happened with that. So,
- 10:24he didn't know how to tell everybody
- 10:26what was going on with everything. And
- 10:28so he pretty much he told them that
- 10:31like, you know, I had the money and I
- 10:34took it and I got involved in like a
- 10:36Bernie made off kind of scheme because
- 10:38he didn't know how to tell, you know,
- 10:41his mom and everybody what was going on.
- 10:43>> You're lucky.
- 10:45>> What?
- 10:46>> You're lucky you went to the gym.
- 10:48>> We were supposed to go to the gym.
- 10:49>> Oh, both you were supposed to go. He
- 10:51didn't know if he was going to he just
- 10:53had lipos suction and he had like two
- 10:57lug handles removed from here. I think
- 10:58he had something little
- 11:00>> and um two weeks ago he had surgery and
- 11:04he
- 11:04>> What kind of surgery?
- 11:05>> The bctomy like the lipo that he had.
- 11:08>> Oh, did he used to be real heavy or
- 11:10something?
- 11:10>> No. Um he used to be and then he got
- 11:12lipo done and I guess the plastic
- 11:14surgeon left like two bulges here. So
- 11:18>> yesterday we went because he had like
- 11:19blood buildup in his back. So they
- 11:22drained it. So he was like, "Well,
- 11:23depending on how I feel today, but we go
- 11:25every morning. We haven't gone since
- 11:27surgery, but every morning 5:00 a.m.
- 11:29we're both at the top."
- 11:30>> Yeah.
- 11:31>> You got a lot of That's better than me.
- 11:32I
- 11:33>> The detective lets Dalia talk and she
- 11:35immediately builds an alternate suspect
- 11:37universe. Instead of focusing on her
- 11:39supposedly murdered husband, she dives
- 11:42into his stock fraud history, probation,
- 11:44and the $191,000
- 11:46of debt, framing him as a man surrounded
- 11:48by dangerous associates and organized
- 11:51crime. She peppers in partial names like
- 11:54Pasqual, vague families, and men who
- 11:56fled the country, just enough detail to
- 11:58sound informed while keeping everything
- 12:00unverifiable.
- 12:02The investigator presents herself as
- 12:04major crimes to signal seriousness and
- 12:06asks for concrete names and locations,
- 12:08but Dalia keeps things foggy. At the
- 12:11same time, she humanizes herself with
- 12:13talk about heritage, pets, his lipos
- 12:15suction, and their 5 a.m. gym routine,
- 12:18crafting the image of a normal, devoted
- 12:20wife caught in someone else's mess.
- 12:22>> Wish I could go, obviously.
- 12:23>> Well, you know, he's very um
- 12:27he used to be a drug addict. And
- 12:29>> what was his drug of choice?
- 12:31>> Crack.
- 12:32>> Crack. I'll give it to you.
- 12:34>> And um he's recovering alcoholic. And so
- 12:38with him, it's very important to be like
- 12:40on a schedule and you know what I mean?
- 12:42Like have a system and very organized
- 12:44with everything. And
- 12:46>> let let's let's get back to u
- 12:51his his death.
- 12:54Um I don't know if you know he was shot.
- 12:58You shot twice and I want you to know
- 13:00all this.
- 13:02>> Do you know this?
- 13:03>> Did they tell you out there?
- 13:05>> Not exactly. I mean, they told me he was
- 13:07shot when I was at the gym. I got a
- 13:08phone call. I didn't hear my phone rang
- 13:10and I called back and they told me just
- 13:12the police come that something happened
- 13:13at my house.
- 13:14>> Yeah, he was evidently your husband
- 13:16answered the door and they took him back
- 13:19upstairs and in your bedroom.
- 13:21>> He has cameras though. Why would he
- 13:23answer the door?
- 13:24>> Like he doesn't answer for anybody he
- 13:26doesn't know. And I mean the only person
- 13:29like his probation officer is like the
- 13:31you know he would not answer the door.
- 13:33We have cameras like at our house.
- 13:35>> Maybe he knows this person. I didn't
- 13:36know you had cameras because when we got
- 13:39there some of your neighbors heard the
- 13:41the commotion.
- 13:42>> We have cameras. The front door has
- 13:43cameras. Back door has cameras. But they
- 13:46don't record.
- 13:46>> And you they don't record.
- 13:48>> Nobody knows. But they don't. We told
- 13:50everybody they record but they don't
- 13:51record.
- 13:52>> Oh god. because he didn't want them to
- 13:53make a hole in the garage for the
- 13:56recorder to be there because of his car.
- 13:59>> Well, when we got there, your door was
- 14:00wide open. When the officers got there,
- 14:02your door was wide open. They went in
- 14:03and looked You have a They said there
- 14:05was two dogs in the house in a in a
- 14:07crate or a cage or something like that.
- 14:09And um um he was found in the bedroom.
- 14:14He was shot twice in the head.
- 14:16>> He wouldn't open the door unless it's
- 14:18somebody that he knows because we we
- 14:19don't open for anybody. Now, you have to
- 14:21understand I wasn't there and neither
- 14:22was he. We have other people there. So,
- 14:24maybe it was maybe somebody broke into
- 14:26the house or something. I don't know. I
- 14:28haven't se I haven't been to the scene
- 14:30yet.
- 14:30>> All of our rooms have TVs and we look
- 14:33specifically like to make sure nothing
- 14:35is happening because we've had drug
- 14:37incidences and things like that.
- 14:39>> Was he asleep when you left?
- 14:41>> No, cuz we said Florida sort of but not
- 14:44really because of his back. He was just
- 14:45kind of like
- 14:46>> laying there. He was just laying there
- 14:47and he said the alarm, you know,
- 14:49>> but I mean I said, you know, I'll bring
- 14:53you coffee on the way home and you know,
- 14:55normal like normal.
- 14:56>> There was no alarm. There was no alarm
- 14:57sound going off.
- 14:58>> I put the our little dog downstairs and
- 15:01he stayed upstairs with the big dog.
- 15:03>> I don't know how big is the dog.
- 15:05>> It's an English bulldog,
- 15:07>> but he doesn't do it.
- 15:08>> Will he bite somebody?
- 15:09>> No, he loves everybody. I mean, he will
- 15:12run off with whoever he sees. The one
- 15:14that's very aggressive and mean is the
- 15:16white one.
- 15:17>> It's probably the smallest little four
- 15:19pound dog.
- 15:19>> I think she's weighs 200 lb, right?
- 15:22>> Um
- 15:23>> um I'm just trying to
- 15:24>> Yeah, I I'm going to I'm going to what
- 15:26I'm going to do right now.
- 15:27>> There's a lot that like I want to tell
- 15:29you.
- 15:29>> I'm going to be back. What I'm going to
- 15:31do is call right now. I'm going to go
- 15:32out and get in touch with the officers
- 15:34at the scene. I want to see if the house
- 15:36was burglarized. Okay. All right. Just
- 15:37hang on one second. Thank you.
- 15:41You want to wait here?
- 15:49>> Can you close the door, please?
- 15:52>> The detective is testing her spontaneous
- 15:54reactions and whether her story adjusts
- 15:56to new information. Dalia responds by
- 15:59overexlaining structure and control in
- 16:01the home. She highlights his addiction
- 16:03recovery, strict schedule, alarms, and
- 16:06camera system to paint a picture of a
- 16:08cautious, organized household. The
- 16:10detective then went on small break to
- 16:12strategize how they will continue this
- 16:14case from this point on.
- 16:28Hey, uh
- 16:33somebody call out there and see if the
- 16:37place was burglarized. I'll take care of
- 16:40you. All right.
- 16:54Hey, will you let me know?
- 17:00You know, you know that what I want to
- 17:02tell you has an alarm system. I don't
- 17:05know. She came with her bedroom and she
- 17:09find out the house from the front of
- 17:13house. And she says that her husband
- 17:16would not let anybody in that house
- 17:19[laughter]
- 17:20and neither was she. Okay. Thanks, man.
- 17:28Go ahead. Drink some water.
- 17:33>> Now, you know that I advised you of your
- 17:35rights, right?
- 17:35>> Yes, I have.
- 17:37>> Okay. The game's over with. Okay.
- 17:40There's no more games with you and I.
- 17:42Now, we're gonna get down to serious
- 17:43business. I want to know if you know
- 17:45this guy.
- 17:47Come here. Bring this guy in here.
- 17:51Get over here. Get over here.
- 17:55You know who this guy is?
- 17:56>> No.
- 17:57>> You've never seen him before?
- 17:58>> I've never seen him before. Ever.
- 18:00>> Do you know her?
- 18:02>> Put your head up and look at him.
- 18:03>> Put your head up.
- 18:04>> I've never seen him.
- 18:05>> What were you doing coming out of her
- 18:07house?
- 18:10Get him out of here.
- 18:18This kind of move from police is rare.
- 18:20They actually brought in the undercover
- 18:22officer who posed as the hitman and told
- 18:24him not to reveal everything. [snorts]
- 18:26Dalia, of course, went along with it
- 18:28all, smiling her way through the act.
- 18:36You're going to jail today for
- 18:37solicitation of murder. You're under
- 18:39arrest.
- 18:40That's an undercover police officer. We
- 18:43filmed everything that you did, recorded
- 18:45everything that you did.
- 18:48You're going to jail for solicitation of
- 18:50first-degree murder of your husband.
- 18:52>> I didn't do anything.
- 18:53>> Did you hear what I just told you?
- 18:54>> I heard what you said, but I didn't
- 18:56>> Everything Listen to me.
- 18:59Everything has been recorded. You were
- 19:02photographed in the convertible when you
- 19:04sat his car in the front of CVS. What do
- 19:08you want to do?
- 19:10What do you want to do here?
- 19:11>> I didn't do anything.
- 19:13>> Listen to me.
- 19:13>> I didn't do anything.
- 19:15>> You're going to jail.
- 19:16>> I didn't do anything. Please. I didn't
- 19:18do anything.
- 19:19>> Tell me you didn't do anything.
- 19:20>> I didn't do anything.
- 19:22>> You're going to jail today.
- 19:24As soon as I'm done.
- 19:26>> Oh my god.
- 19:26>> They're going to come in here and
- 19:28handcuff you and take you to the Palm
- 19:30Beach County Jail, book you for
- 19:32solicitation of firstdegree murder on
- 19:35your husband. Your husband is well and
- 19:36alive.
- 19:37>> Thank God.
- 19:38>> Oh yeah. Can I see? Can I see?
- 19:40>> No, he doesn't want to see you.
- 19:43>> He doesn't want to see you.
- 19:44>> Please,
- 19:45>> you better quit your plan. Listen to me.
- 19:48>> I want you to quit your acting and get
- 19:52this over with.
- 19:53>> I'm not.
- 19:54>> Yes, you are.
- 19:55>> Okay, you know what? You need a real
- 19:57good attorney. You need a real good
- 20:00attorney because we're going to show him
- 20:01the film where you say you're 5,000%
- 20:04sure you want him dead. You think I made
- 20:07that up?
- 20:09You think I made that up? It's exactly
- 20:13what's going to happen. I'm putting talk
- 20:15with you when I leave this room. No
- 20:18other officer will ever talk to you
- 20:19again. The next time we see you is when
- 20:21you're in trial. Now, you can make it
- 20:24right here or you're going to trial and
- 20:26you're going to do life in prison. You
- 20:28want to cooperate with us. Whatever you
- 20:30want to do, it's over and done once I
- 20:33walk out. I'm not coming back in to talk
- 20:35to you. And no one else is here. What do
- 20:39you want to do before I leave here?
- 20:41Because the next officer comes here,
- 20:42gonna handcuff you and take you to the
- 20:44jail.
- 20:44>> See my husband, please.
- 20:46>> No, he doesn't want to see you.
- 20:49He doesn't want to see it. I'm leaving
- 20:51now.
- 20:54>> Can we have an officer come in here and
- 20:56cop this
- 20:58the person?
- 21:00>> I don't know what's going on. Please
- 21:06>> can we go ahead and arrest report first
- 21:08degree murder position?
- 21:25>> Sit back down
- 21:28>> here. Stay right here.
- 21:30You can see her right there.
- 21:36>> Oh my god,
- 21:37>> she's alive.
- 21:39>> Come here. Please come here.
- 21:41>> Now her husband walks in very much
- 21:43alive. In that instant, Dalia realizes
- 21:46she's been played. The detective lays
- 21:48everything out, revealing the sting in
- 21:50full. Only then does it hit her. She's
- 21:52not in control of anything. She's in
- 21:54serious trouble.
- 21:56>> Mike, come here.
- 21:58Come here. Please come here.
- 22:00>> YES.
- 22:01>> WHY NOT? I DIDN'T DO ANYTHING TO YOU.
- 22:03>> I HEARD YOU.
- 22:04>> MIKE, come here. Please come here.
- 22:07>> Okay.
- 22:09Want to take it back to both of you,
- 22:10please?
- 22:13>> Oh my god.
- 22:22>> After that, they gave her a short break.
- 22:24Time to calm down, regroup, and figure
- 22:26out how she wanted to play things. Then
- 22:29she was brought back into the
- 22:30interrogation room. This time to face
- 22:32two new detectives whose only goal was
- 22:35simple. Break down her story and push
- 22:37her toward a confession.
- 22:40>> First name is Dalia.
- 22:42>> Is that how you pronounce it?
- 22:49Have
- 22:50>> you been advised of your rights before?
- 22:53Yes. your Miranda rights?
- 22:55>> No, but I wanted to make a phone call.
- 22:57>> Okay. Earlier this morning, Sergeant
- 22:59Sheridan Reggie your rights from that
- 23:01card, right? And you understood your
- 23:03Miranda rights, your fifth amendment
- 23:04rights.
- 23:06>> Yes, but I wanted to make a phone call.
- 23:08>> Okay. So, well, phone call. We will let
- 23:10you do that later. Not right now,
- 23:12though.
- 23:12>> But while I'm still here.
- 23:14>> Um, yeah, later on we will.
- 23:18Okay.
- 23:20You want to uh did you understand your
- 23:22rights or you didn't understand them?
- 23:24>> I wasn't really paying attention on you.
- 23:29>> Okay. What I'll do is I'll go ahead and
- 23:30read them again. Okay. And if you have
- 23:32any questions, just go ahead and ask me
- 23:34and I'll explain them to you. Okay.
- 23:38You have the right to remain silent and
- 23:40I answer any questions. You understand
- 23:41that?
- 23:43>> Yes. No.
- 23:44>> Yeah.
- 23:45>> Any any statement you make must be
- 23:47freely and voluntary given. Do you
- 23:49understand that?
- 23:50>> Yeah.
- 23:51>> You have the right to the presence and
- 23:53representation of a lawyer of a choice
- 23:55before you make any statements and doing
- 23:57any question. You understand that?
- 24:03>> So when you start asking in the middle
- 24:05if it starts getting uncomfortable then
- 24:08I can have my attorney.
- 24:10>> It's your right to remain silent and
- 24:12request a lawyer. Yes. Okay. You
- 24:15understand that?
- 24:16>> Yes. Right.
- 24:17>> Yeah.
- 24:17>> Yes. Okay.
- 24:19If you cannot afford [clears throat] a
- 24:20lawyer, you are entitled to the presence
- 24:21and representation of a courtappointed
- 24:23lawyer before you make any statements
- 24:24and during any question. You understand
- 24:26that?
- 24:26>> Yeah.
- 24:29[clears throat]
- 24:29>> If at any time during the interview you
- 24:31do not wish to answer any questions,
- 24:33your privilege to remain silent. You
- 24:35understand that?
- 24:35>> Yeah.
- 24:36>> Okay. I can't make any threats or
- 24:38promises to induce you to make any
- 24:40statements. This must be of your own
- 24:41free will.
- 24:42>> Yeah, I do.
- 24:42>> Okay. Any statement can be and will be
- 24:45used against you in a court of law. Do
- 24:47you understand that?
- 24:48You never sign here again or
- 24:50>> No.
- 24:50>> Okay.
- 24:51>> Is it your signature?
- 24:52>> Yeah.
- 24:53>> Okay.
- 24:53>> Okay. Do you understand your you have
- 24:55fifth amendment rights now? All of them?
- 24:57>> Yeah.
- 24:58>> Okay.
- 25:00Um
- 25:02>> can I go to the regular restroom,
- 25:04please, before we start? Is it okay?
- 25:06>> Can Is it an emergency?
- 25:10>> I didn't feel comfortable going in the
- 25:11other one. I'm sorry. I No problem.
- 25:16She has to go to the bathroom. Okay.
- 25:18Then we'll come back in
- 25:22the lawyer. We'll take
- 25:29>> No,
- 25:29>> no, that's fine.
- 25:32>> Oh, no, no, no.
- 25:34>> Hey,
- 25:36chosen bathroom would have.
- 25:38>> Yes.
- 25:40>> Close the door.
- 25:44Hey Lord, make sure you go in there with
- 25:46her, please.
- 25:47>> Yeah, call. Okay, listen guys. One guy
- 25:51asked a question.
- 25:56>> Dalia had her rights read again and
- 25:58requested a bathroom break. This is her
- 26:01fightor-flight response. She doesn't
- 26:03know what to do. She also requested a
- 26:05phone call. She feels trapped and that
- 26:07very room where she is interrogated in
- 26:09is her worst nightmare.
- 26:18All right. You mind if I call you Dalia?
- 26:20>> Yeah, please.
- 26:22>> All right. Um,
- 26:25do you understand what happened today?
- 26:27What's going on here?
- 26:29>> A little.
- 26:30>> Okay.
- 26:31>> Now, slowly I'm understanding a little
- 26:33bit better.
- 26:34>> What's your understanding?
- 26:37I was told one thing and now it's like
- 26:39slowly like all these things start.
- 26:42[clears throat] I like I don't I mean I
- 26:45don't really know what happened.
- 26:48>> Do you know that you are arrested today?
- 26:52You're being arrested?
- 26:55>> That part I understood.
- 26:57>> Okay. Do you know what for?
- 27:01>> Not really. No.
- 27:02>> You don't know the charge?
- 27:03>> No. Nobody.
- 27:05>> Okay. Go ahead and tell the story.
- 27:06>> Okay. You're being arrested for
- 27:08soliciting to commit murder. Okay. Which
- 27:11that means is you attempted to hire
- 27:14someone to kill somebody else, meaning
- 27:17your husband. Okay.
- 27:20And that's why you're here and that's
- 27:22what you're getting charged with.
- 27:24>> Okay. No.
- 27:25>> You No, you don't understand or
- 27:27>> No, I never done that.
- 27:29>> Okay. But that that's what you're being
- 27:30charged with.
- 27:31>> Okay. and um we have plenty of evidence
- 27:35to back it up. Okay.
- 27:38So, with your rights in mind, we want to
- 27:41give you an opportunity to
- 27:45do some soul searching maybe and maybe
- 27:49get a lot off your chest and tell us the
- 27:52truth. That's what we want to hear. I
- 27:54mean, this has been worked for a couple
- 27:58days now. It's not just the first day
- 28:01we're doing this reference to this case
- 28:05and we have a lot of information
- 28:08to support our charge. It's just not
- 28:11real uh a quick little thing. So,
- 28:16you know, we don't know when you're
- 28:18lying to us and all that. We just want
- 28:19to hear the truth. I mean, it's done.
- 28:22It's over with now, you know, and um
- 28:26this is your opportunity to tell us the
- 28:28truth. That's all we want to hear. And
- 28:30we know the truth.
- 28:33So,
- 28:35I know it's hard
- 28:37to commit to that, but
- 28:40now's your time. You know,
- 28:44>> you have anything to say about this?
- 28:47>> I'm going to talk to my husband.
- 28:49>> Okay. Well, you can't talk to your
- 28:51husband. He's not here right now.
- 28:54Let him go home. He's taking care of the
- 28:56house and the dogs. So, Obviously,
- 29:00your husband's alive.
- 29:02You saw him, right?
- 29:04>> I saw him. I'd like to talk to him.
- 29:06>> Okay. And did you see that black officer
- 29:08that was here
- 29:11>> in handcuffs? Well, he's an officer.
- 29:14Okay. So,
- 29:17does it get any clearer than that? I
- 29:19mean,
- 29:24you know,
- 29:25I know it's hard, but Here,
- 29:29the illusion collapses in real time.
- 29:32Detectives shift from sympathetic
- 29:33homicide investigators to sting
- 29:35operators, formally arresting Dalia for
- 29:38soliciting murder and calmly stating
- 29:40they have extensive evidence. The tone
- 29:42is measured, almost gentle, inviting
- 29:45confession rather than demanding it.
- 29:47They frame this as her last chance to
- 29:49unburden herself, stressing that the
- 29:51operation has been running for days and
- 29:53that they already know the truth.
- 29:55Dalia's response is not outrage at the
- 29:57accusation, but a request to speak to
- 29:59her husband, clinging to control and
- 30:01damage repair. When they reveal that her
- 30:04hitman is actually a police officer and
- 30:07her husband is alive, the room changes.
- 30:10The detectives are no longer factf
- 30:11finding. They are forcing her to
- 30:13confront a failed murder for hire plot.
- 30:15You
- 30:16>> know, people make mistakes sometimes.
- 30:18You know,
- 30:20the good the good thing about this whole
- 30:21thing is that nobody got killed. All
- 30:24right.
- 30:26The gentleman that walk in the room, he
- 30:28said, "It's an officer." All right. This
- 30:30is not the first day we've been working
- 30:32this. All right. It's an ongoing
- 30:35investigation
- 30:36where you we have you talking to this
- 30:39guy. We've listened to every
- 30:40conversation you had. All right. So now
- 30:44it's either, you know, tell the truth
- 30:47and do the right thing. That's, you
- 30:49know, that's if you want to reach inside
- 30:51you and, you know, but we make mistakes,
- 30:54you know, everybody makes mistakes.
- 30:57Um,
- 30:59but tragedy was prevented today.
- 31:01>> You could look at it that way. You know,
- 31:05that simple.
- 31:09A big tragedy. I mean, someone's life.
- 31:12So,
- 31:16everything's on tape, Dalia. There's no
- 31:18denying it.
- 31:21You know, everything's on tape and it's
- 31:24not a bluff. So, all the conversations
- 31:28and there's some video, too.
- 31:37>> What are you thinking?
- 31:39>> That I'd like to make a phone call. I
- 31:40just feel lost. I mean,
- 31:43>> what do you want to call?
- 31:45>> Like to call my mom. We'll let you call
- 31:47your mom after this is done.
- 31:49>> I mean, I'm not, you know, I just
- 31:51everyone keeps coming and I'm signing
- 31:53all these things and going over all
- 31:54these things and I don't really know
- 31:56what they're for. I'm just signing it
- 31:58because everyone's saying, "Well, you
- 32:00know, if you sign this, I'll help you or
- 32:03will this or will that." And
- 32:04>> I don't know about that, but the only
- 32:05thing we're [clears throat] concerned
- 32:07about is a race card. And we went over
- 32:08it twice.
- 32:09>> The news guy came and I guess that may
- 32:11have been for the release of the tape
- 32:12earlier. I don't know because he never
- 32:14came back.
- 32:16and I signed something and I don't
- 32:19really know what it was.
- 32:20>> Okay. Well,
- 32:21>> I mean, I was hysterical like when he
- 32:23came and
- 32:24>> and that's
- 32:25>> I'm sorry. Go ahead, Alex.
- 32:27>> And that's understandable. Okay. Our
- 32:29main concern right now is the fact that
- 32:32the crime we you know you actually you
- 32:36got to understand this. Okay, Donna.
- 32:38Listen to me for a second. Okay.
- 32:39>> Do anything.
- 32:40>> Listen to me for a second. Okay. This
- 32:42isn't our first day, okay? It's not
- 32:44definitely not our second day. All
- 32:46right. This is an ongoing investigation.
- 32:49All right. Not only do we have you
- 32:51videotape, we have every conversation
- 32:52that you've had leading to this point.
- 32:55All right? So, for you to sit here and
- 32:57deny that you haven't done anything,
- 32:59it's not going to help. All right? Cuz
- 33:01we know this. We know the whole story
- 33:03from the beginning to the end to this
- 33:05point that we're right here right now.
- 33:07All right? Every little thing that
- 33:09you've done since this started, we've
- 33:12been involved in it.
- 33:14Do you understand that?
- 33:16>> I understand what you just said. I'm not
- 33:18trying to
- 33:19>> Well, I'm just remind you.
- 33:21>> No, no. And I'm not and I'm not making I
- 33:23mean, I'm just telling you the truth.
- 33:24That's the truth.
- 33:26>> Well, unfortunately, you're not going
- 33:28home. Okay. You're looking at some
- 33:31serious charges here.
- 33:34Do you understand that you
- 33:36made the attempt
- 33:39to hire somebody to kill your husband?
- 33:41That's how serious this is. Okay, you
- 33:44can sit here and shake your head and
- 33:45deny it, but I'm g tell you right now,
- 33:48all right, when they the jury and the
- 33:51judge sees that videotape of you having
- 33:53this conversation, making a deal. All
- 33:56right, that's how far you went. All
- 33:58right, it wasn't it's not about denying
- 34:01it wasn't me. I didn't do anything cuz
- 34:02the video, the audio is not going to
- 34:05lie. All right? and all the evidence
- 34:07that we have collected throughout this
- 34:08investigation.
- 34:13>> You sound like a fool right now denying
- 34:15this cuz like my partner just said,
- 34:17everything's on tape, video and audio.
- 34:20It's just want to go home.
- 34:21>> I know, but you're not going home. You
- 34:23see, you're being arrested, so you're
- 34:25not going home.
- 34:26>> But what do I have to pay to go home?
- 34:29It's like to go home.
- 34:30>> I know, but you you can't. It's
- 34:32impossible. You're going to the Palm
- 34:33Beach County jail after this. You kid,
- 34:35you're being arrested. This is a game.
- 34:39In your mind, it might be a little game,
- 34:40but this is very, very serious. Murder.
- 34:43Are you kidding me?
- 34:45>> In this final phase, the detectives drop
- 34:47any remaining softness and move into
- 34:49full confrontation. They clearly state
- 34:51that Dalia is under arrest for
- 34:53soliciting the murder of her husband and
- 34:55explain that the entire plot has been
- 34:57captured on audio and video from first
- 34:59contact to final agreement. Dalia
- 35:02responds like someone trying to rewind
- 35:04reality. She asks to call her mother,
- 35:07asks what she must do to go home, and
- 35:09continues to deny or minimize rather
- 35:11than engage with the evidence. The
- 35:14detectives hammer the futility theme.
- 35:16The jury will see the recordings. The
- 35:18case is already built, and denial only
- 35:20makes her look foolish. This is no
- 35:22longer an interview. It is a legal
- 35:24record of guilt. After this, she finally
- 35:27had her phone call. And this phone call
- 35:29better be worth it for Dalia. and she
- 35:31decided to call Michael.
- 35:32>> Hey, it's me.
- 35:34>> Yeah. What's up?
- 35:36>> Nothing. Can you please come here?
- 35:39>> Hey, listen. I'm I don't want to fight
- 35:41with you. Honestly, I can't help you.
- 35:47>> Don't you understand what just happened?
- 35:49>> What they're saying is not true.
- 35:53>> How is that possible?
- 35:54>> Like, I'm sitting here. It's not true.
- 35:56It's not possible. You wouldn't even
- 35:58give me 2 minutes to talk to you. But
- 35:59it's not possible. What you're saying is
- 36:02not true.
- 36:04>> How in the hell did I hear it? You see
- 36:06it?
- 36:07>> I heard what you heard. It's not true. I
- 36:10heard what you heard and I saw what you
- 36:11saw. Everything they showed you, they
- 36:13showed me.
- 36:15>> And how did I How are you telling me
- 36:16that?
- 36:17>> I am giving you my word that it's not
- 36:20true.
- 36:21>> What do you I couldn't help you if I
- 36:23wanted to.
- 36:25>> Mike, please. I need an attorney. Can
- 36:27you please tell me
- 36:30that's not true?
- 36:32>> Your brother was here and I spoke to him
- 36:35and he's going to go talk to your mom. I
- 36:36called them for you already, right?
- 36:40>> This is not true.
- 36:43>> I drew like how do you explain what I
- 36:46saw and heard?
- 36:47>> Like I am limited on my phone call. You
- 36:49know more than anybody. It's not true.
- 36:51Just give me time so I can talk to you.
- 36:54What? What did you say? I saw it. I
- 36:57heard it.
- 36:58>> I saw what you saw and I heard what you
- 36:59heard.
- 37:00>> Okay. And what the You said you wanted
- 37:02to have me killed. I heard that.
- 37:03>> Not true. That is not true.
- 37:05>> Not true.
- 37:06>> How can you believe that?
- 37:08>> I heard your voice.
- 37:11>> How can you believe it?
- 37:12>> But it is a prank. I heard you say it.
- 37:15>> It's not. I heard what you heard and
- 37:16it's not.
- 37:18>> What did you What did I hear then?
- 37:21I heard you say I
- 37:22>> I heard the tape. Okay. I heard the
- 37:24tweet and I saw pictures and I saw the
- 37:26whole 9 yards. I saw all of it.
- 37:28>> So why would you need a guy in a parking
- 37:30lot?
- 37:32Explain that.
- 37:33>> I'm sitting here on the phone. I will
- 37:35tell you when I see you in person.
- 37:37Please.
- 37:37>> You're not I can't come there anyway.
- 37:39I'm not allowed there.
- 37:40>> That's not true. Who said that? They
- 37:43tell you that on purpose. That's not
- 37:46true.
- 37:48>> I don't know what you could tell me.
- 37:50Even if let's pretend I said, "Oh, it's
- 37:53all better." I can't. They're charging
- 37:55your ass. Don't you get it?
- 37:57>> Like, I didn't do anything. Please.
- 38:01>> I don't know what to say to you. I can't
- 38:02help you.
- 38:03>> What do you mean?
- 38:04>> It's out of my hand.
- 38:05>> You're not even trying.
- 38:07>> What am I supposed to do?
- 38:09>> You're supposed to be an attorney,
- 38:11please so I can talk to you.
- 38:15Now, I saw you with this guy in the
- 38:19truck or whatever the it was. I saw it.
- 38:22I heard your voice clearly.
- 38:26What? I don't understand.
- 38:27>> Did not say those things. Period.
- 38:31>> So, how did they get your voice on that
- 38:32tape recorder?
- 38:33>> Like, I'm limited with my time speed.
- 38:36>> You got to be kidding me, man. Tell you,
- 38:38I heard you say that [ __ ]
- 38:40>> Like, I'm telling you right now, okay?
- 38:43>> You You can't fix it. How are you going
- 38:45to tell me that you didn't say it? You
- 38:48didn't do it when I saw you say it and I
- 38:50I saw you do it.
- 38:51>> Do you have any idea how I was when they
- 38:54told me what supposedly happened to you?
- 38:55How I got and how I was and how
- 38:57everything?
- 38:59Can you meet me in person so I can talk
- 39:01to you?
- 39:02>> No.
- 39:04>> Why?
- 39:05>> Why should I?
- 39:07>> Because you know me. I never ever ever
- 39:10ever ever in my wildest dreams ever want
- 39:12that for you. Ever.
- 39:14Well, you you say it, D. You hire the
- 39:16guy. I
- 39:16>> did not. No, I did not say anything.
- 39:19Period. I didn't say anything.
- 39:21>> I don't know how you you're going to
- 39:22actually have the nerve to sit here and
- 39:23lie to me now.
- 39:24>> I can't help you even if I wanted to. Do
- 39:27you get it?
- 39:27>> Why don't you want to?
- 39:29>> It's out of my head.
- 39:31>> You're not even trying. It's different
- 39:32if you're trying. You're not even
- 39:33trying.
- 39:34>> What can I possibly do for you? I don't
- 39:36get it. What can I do?
- 39:38>> You're not even trying.
- 39:40>> Trying what? I'm sitting there like a
- 39:42dumbass.
- 39:44Okay, they're getting ready to like take
- 39:46me again.
- 39:48>> Daddy, I'm Listen, I'm going to give you
- 39:50some advice and you need to listen.
- 39:52You're going to be running around in
- 39:53there for a little while, couple days.
- 39:56You need to just try and relax and just
- 40:00go with it and keep to yourself and
- 40:02don't say a lot.
- 40:03>> I love you. Don't do this to me. I'm
- 40:05sitting here. Everybody treated me
- 40:06awful. I didn't do anything to you. You
- 40:10know me.
- 40:12Hi everyone
- 40:13to me.
- 40:16>> I can't help you.
- 40:18>> I There's nothing I can do to help you.
- 40:22>> You know what I'll do? You know what
- 40:24I'll do for you? Seriously?
- 40:26>> You sign my house back over to me. I'll
- 40:28help your mom eventually.
- 40:31Give me my house back.
- 40:34>> That's it.
- 40:35>> That's it. What?
- 40:38>> I'll have the papers sent over to you
- 40:39somehow. You'll sign them over to me and
- 40:42then I will help your mother.
- 40:45>> Okay.
- 40:46>> I'm not signing anything.
- 40:47>> I know you wouldn't sign anything. I
- 40:49knew that wasn't going to happen. So, I
- 40:50can't help you.
- 40:52>> Good. That's what you're talking about.
- 40:54I'm sitting here watching. You're
- 40:55thinking about having me kill him. I
- 40:57just offered to help you. And again, you
- 41:00had the balls to say no to me. You just
- 41:02basically said you to me, which is
- 41:04hilarious considering your situation and
- 41:07considering what the just happened
- 41:08today.
- 41:11Sorry. I hope the guy getting fingered
- 41:13now.
- 41:14>> She also called her mom after this.
- 41:16>> Mom, I'm in jail.
- 41:18>> I know, Dalia. I know. I find out.
- 41:20>> I need you to call in New York.
- 41:23>> Okay. Who do you want me to call? What
- 41:25is it?
- 41:25>> I need you to call Mike in New York,
- 41:27please.
- 41:27>> I I called already and I called.
- 41:29Everybody knows. What is that you want
- 41:31me to do? Where are you exactly?
- 41:32>> I'm in the county, too. I need you to
- 41:35What did Mike say? Is he coming?
- 41:38>> Everybody's coming. We're going to go
- 41:39ahead and get your lawyers. Okay. Don't
- 41:41worry. Where are you? Are you in golf
- 41:42club?
- 41:43>> Yes, I'm here. Mom, they did this to me.
- 41:47>> Okay.
- 41:47>> I didn't do anything. I didn't do
- 41:49anything.
- 41:50>> You didn't. I know you didn't. And I
- 41:52know you didn't. Where are you? You're
- 41:54in gun club.
- 41:55>> Yes. I'm hearing gun club and I heard
- 41:57Mike is at the house. I want him out of
- 41:59my house.
- 42:01>> Okay. Well, right now we're going to
- 42:03need to have a lawyer first.
- 42:04>> That's my house. The title's in my name.
- 42:06>> All right. Okay. Don't worry. 20 months
- 42:08after the staged crime scene and the
- 42:10quiet collapse in the interrogation
- 42:12room, everything Dalia tried to talk
- 42:14around was replayed in slow motion for a
- 42:17jury. The state did not need to
- 42:19speculate. Jurors watched her walk
- 42:21through the fake hit, negotiate payments
- 42:23with the undercover officer, and then
- 42:25sit in the interview room, insisting she
- 42:27knew nothing. While detectives already
- 42:28had every meeting on tape, the
- 42:30prosecution's best moments were simply
- 42:32pressing play. The calm way she
- 42:35discussed timing, alibis, and money
- 42:37undercut the distressed wife image she
- 42:39tried to perform later. Her husband took
- 42:41the stand alive, a living reminder that
- 42:44this had been a murder case without a
- 42:45body, only because police stepped in
- 42:47first. The defense floated ideas about
- 42:50reality television and performance. But
- 42:53no witness could turn the recorded
- 42:54planning sessions into anything other
- 42:56than a genuine murder for higher plot.
- 43:00The jury saw a clear pattern. a husband
- 43:03with money problems, a new wife, and a
- 43:05detailed plan to remove him permanently.
- 43:11>> I'll find that the verdict is in proper
- 43:13form and ask that our clerk publish the
- 43:14verdict.
- 43:16>> In the circuit court of the 15th
- 43:18Judicial Circuit, Criminal Division in
- 43:204, Palm Beach County, Florida in case
- 43:22number 20971,
- 43:26State of Florida versus Dolly Dealo.
- 43:28Verdict, we the jury find as follows. As
- 43:31count one, we find the defendant guilty
- 43:33of solicitation to commit forced murder.
- 43:36If you find the defendant guilty, do you
- 43:38find that there is a firearm included in
- 43:40the solicitation? Yes. So, say this
- 43:43133rd May 2011 in West Palm Beach, Palm
- 43:46Beach County, Florida. Sign jury for
- 43:49person Joseph.
- 43:50>> After deliberations, the jury found her
- 43:52guilty of solicitation to commit
- 43:54firstdegree murder. At sentencing, the
- 43:57judge emphasized how controlled and
- 43:59deliberate the plan had been and imposed
- 44:01a 20-year prison term, just short of the
- 44:04maximum. For viewers used to seeing her
- 44:06in viral clips, this was the most
- 44:08important frame. Not the stage tears at
- 44:11the doorstep, but the moment the court
- 44:13labeled the plot as calculated rather
- 44:15than impulsive. The story did not stop
- 44:18there. Years later, an appeals court
- 44:20threw out that first conviction over
- 44:22jury selection issues, leading to a
- 44:24mistrial in a second attempt and a third
- 44:26full trial. The recordings never
- 44:29changed, and neither did the core
- 44:30timeline. In 2017, another jury
- 44:33convicted her again, and this time, she
- 44:35received a 16-year sentence that has
- 44:37since been upheld on appeal. The
- 44:40undercover sting, the interrogation, and
- 44:42the courtroom all ended up telling the
- 44:44same story. When you lay out what he
- 44:47went through, it's hard to overstate how
- 44:49much damage she caused. She started as
- 44:51an escort. Then she used a fake lawyer
- 44:53to trick him into signing his house over
- 44:55to her. She stole money from him and
- 44:57even tried to frame him by planting
- 44:58drugs so it would look like he was the
- 45:00criminal. She tried to get his parole
- 45:02violated just to send him back to jail.
- 45:05It didn't stop there. She allegedly
- 45:07tried to poison him. When that failed,
- 45:09she went a step further and hired
- 45:11someone she believed was a hitman to
- 45:13have him killed. She refused to divorce
- 45:15him, forcing him into a legal battle
- 45:17that cost around $50,000 in court fees.
- 45:21The attempted murder case dragged on for
- 45:23eight long years, draining him of
- 45:25hundreds of thousands of dollars more.
- 45:28During that time, she arguably had a
- 45:30child in the hope that it would soften
- 45:31the court's view of her when it came to
- 45:33sentencing. And even at the end,
- 45:36standing in front of the judge, her side
- 45:38still tried to shift the blame onto him,
- 45:40as if all of this had somehow been his
- 45:42fault.
