- 0:08In the name of God, and prayers and peace be upon the Messenger of God. Peace be upon you and God’s mercy and blessings. How are you,
- 0:12guys, how are you doing? Welcome to the introduction for the course of network administration using
- 0:20Windows Server, or Windows Server Administration, or what was previously known as MCSE, okay.
- 0:28We will start our course together. God willing, the course will be theoretical and practical, with hands-on labs.
- 0:36We will explain everything step by step, and everything will be applied practically in front of you.
- 0:42So that you can apply it yourself. All the requirements and tools related
- 0:48to the course, God willing, the links will be available.
- 0:53And I will leave the links for you, so you can download the course requirements, which are the
- 1:00VMware and the installation versions, whether Windows Server or Windows Client, all of this
- 1:05we will talk about and discuss together. So what experience do I need to have before I start with you?
- 1:13First of all, before anything, you must understand what IT is.
- 1:18Information Technology, which simply means dealing with technology.
- 1:23Technology here means computers, networks, servers, and systems.
- 1:29All of that is considered part of IT.
- 1:34So when I say I want to work in IT, it is not just one thing.
- 1:39IT has many branches, and each branch has its own specialization.
- 1:44For example, we have networking, we have system administration.
- 1:49We have security, we have cloud, and many other fields.
- 1:54So the first thing you need to decide is: which path do you want to take?
- 2:00Do you want to be a network engineer? Do you want to be a system engineer?
- 2:05Do you want to work in security? Do you want to work in cloud computing?
- 2:10Each path has its own requirements, and its own learning roadmap.
- 2:15But there are basics that everyone in IT must know.
- 2:20These basics include understanding how computers work.
- 2:25Understanding operating systems, especially Windows.
- 2:30Understanding basic networking concepts, such as IP addresses.
- 2:35What is a subnet? What is a gateway? What is DNS?
- 2:40These are very important basics that you must understand.
- 2:45After that, you start to specialize based on your chosen path.
- 1:13Engineer, for this course I do not need from you what you already know, just simple computer basics.
- 1:17Do I have to take the CCNA course before I start with you? No, not at all, and you will understand this during the course.
- 1:22It is not required at all to have CCNA. You can take it before or after, it will not make a difference.
- 1:26What matters for us is that you just have basic Windows knowledge, that you know how to open the laptop,
- 1:31you know how to deal with the system, you know where things are and how to move around.
- 1:36You know how to install programs, you know basic computer usage.
- 1:41That is all I need from you, and everything else we will build together during the course.
- 1:46God willing, we will start step by step, and we will reach together the target that we want.
- 1:51Which is that at the end of the course, you will be able to manage and administrate
- 1:57a complete network administration for your own network.
- 2:03Whether in a company or a private network of your own.
- 2:08You will be able to fully manage the network through Windows Server.
- 2:14At the end of the course, you will be able to perform management and full administration of your network.
- 2:21Whether in a company or your own private network, you will manage it completely through Windows Server.
- 2:28So this was a simple introduction to what we are going to do in the course.
- 2:36Now we need to understand what a network actually is. What does it mean when I say a network is created?
- 2:43A network simply means that I have more than one device connected to each other.
- 2:50These devices can communicate with each other, exchange data, and share resources.
- 2:57For example, I can have a computer, a laptop, a server, and a printer.
- 3:04All of these devices are connected together through a network.
- 3:11The purpose of the network is to allow communication and sharing between devices.
- 3:18Sharing files, sharing printers, sharing internet connections, and so on.
- 3:25So instead of every device working alone, they all work together through the network.
- 3:32A network can be very small, like two devices connected together.
- 3:40Or it can be very large, like a company network or the internet itself.
- 3:47Now, when we talk about networks, we need to understand their basic components.
- 3:54We have devices, we have cables or wireless connections,
- 4:02and we have network devices such as switches and routers.
- 4:09Each component has a role, and we will explain each one step by step.
- 4:16But before we go deeper, we need to understand network types.
- 4:24For example, we have something called LAN, which means Local Area Network.
- 4:31This is a network inside a small area, like an office or a building.
- 4:39We also have WAN, which means Wide Area Network.
- 4:46This is a network that covers a large area, like connecting branches in different cities.
- 4:53And of course, the internet itself is considered the largest WAN.
- 5:01So when you work as a network administrator, you must understand these concepts clearly.
- 5:08Now, let us move to something very important, which is network management.
- 5:15Managing a network manually becomes very difficult as it grows.
- 5:23Imagine having 2 or 3 computers, this is easy to manage.
- 5:30But imagine having 50, 100, or 500 devices.
- 5:38You cannot manage them one by one manually.
- 5:45That is why we need centralized management.
- 5:53This is where Windows Server and domain environments come into play.
- 6:00Instead of managing each device separately, we manage everything from one place.
- 6:07We control users, permissions, security policies, and resources.
- 6:15All of that is done through the domain.
- 6:22So when someone asks you, why do we need a domain?
- 6:30The answer is simple: for centralized management and control.
- 6:37Now, before we create a domain, we need to understand its requirements.
- 6:44A domain must be created on a server, not on a regular client machine.
- 6:52This server will be called a Domain Controller.
- 6:59The Domain Controller is responsible for managing users and devices.
- 7:07It authenticates users, applies policies, and manages access.
- 7:14And this is exactly what we will be working on in this course.
- 7:22We will install Windows Server, configure it, and promote it to a Domain Controller.
- 7:29Step by step, without skipping anything.
- 7:36Everything will be explained practically, so you can apply it yourself.
- 7:44By the end of this part, you will fully understand domains.
- 7:51You will know why companies rely on domains instead of workgroups.
- 7:59And you will clearly see the difference between a workgroup and a domain.
- 8:06This understanding is essential for any system or network administrator.
- 8:13So take your time, focus with me, and do not rush.
- 8:21Everything will be clear step by step, God willing.
- 8:28And if something is not clear, we will repeat it until it is clear.
- 8:36Because understanding the basics is the key to mastering the advanced topics.
- 8:43Now, let us move forward and start our practical journey together.
- 8:51With Windows Server and network administration.
- 8:58Step by step, from zero to a professional level.
- 9:05So stay focused with me, and let us begin.
- 9:13And remember, practice is the most important thing.
- 9:20Do not just watch, apply everything with your own hands.
- 9:28This is how you will really learn and gain experience.
- 9:35Now let us move to the next step, which is preparing our environment.
- 9:42We will start by preparing the virtual machines.
- 9:50And this is where our practical work begins.
- 9:57So get ready, and let us start together.
- 10:05I work with both, by the way, I work with Windows and Linux, but the most common worldwide is
- 10:10Windows in terms of numbers.
- 10:16So when we talk about operating systems, we have many operating systems.
- 10:23You have Linux, Unix, AIX, macOS, all of these are operating systems.
- 10:30But the most widely used worldwide, especially on personal devices,
- 10:38is Windows.
- 10:45The Windows that you use on your personal device is called Windows Client.
- 10:52Windows Client is designed for end users, normal users who work on devices.
- 10:58You use it on your personal computer, this is called Windows Client.
- 11:01Windows Client is designed for regular clients, people who will work on devices.
- 11:07Okay, is it possible to leave the devices like this in the company without management?
- 11:14No, of course not, because this way we would become a mess.
- 11:20Anyone can install anything, anyone can delete anything.
- 11:27There will be no control, no security, and no organization.
- 11:34That is why we need something to manage these devices.
- 11:42This is where Windows Server comes in.
- 11:49Windows Server is designed for servers, not for regular users.
- 11:56It is designed to manage users, devices, permissions, and policies.
- 12:04So the idea is not just installing Windows, the idea is management.
- 12:11Managing users, managing devices, and managing the entire environment.
- 12:18This management is done through something called the domain.
- 12:26And this is why companies rely on domains, not workgroups.
- 12:33Because workgroup does not provide centralized management.
- 12:41In a workgroup, each device is managed separately, which is very tiring.
- 12:48But in a domain, everything is managed from one place.
- 12:55And this is what makes administration easier, more secure, and more organized.
- 12:01So what is Windows Server, and what are its versions? From a long time ago, starting from 2000, then
- 12:082003, then 2003 Service Pack, Service Pack 2, Service Pack 3, then after that
- 12:132008, then 2008 something called R2, R2 in Microsoft, which means Release 2, then after that
- 12:192012, 2012 R2, then 2016, then
- 12:252019, and then 2022, and so on.
- 12:32So all of these are Windows Server versions, and each version has its own features.
- 12:39But in general, the idea is the same, which is management.
- 12:46I need to manage users, manage devices, manage policies.
- 12:53I need to manage the company environment in a centralized way.
- 13:00So in order to manage employees’ devices, the employees’ devices must have
- 13:07Windows Client installed on them, and the devices that I can control the network with,
- 13:14or one device or two devices that I can use to control the network,
- 13:21this is called Windows Server.
- 13:25Or what we call Windows Server, or the server that we can use to
- 13:30control our network and our infrastructure. So the idea is very, very, very simple.
- 13:37I have client devices, which are the employees’ devices.
- 13:45And I have a server, which is the device responsible for management.
- 13:52Through this server, I can control users, passwords, permissions.
- 13:59I can control who can install software and who cannot.
- 14:07I can control access to files, folders, printers, and resources.
- 14:14All of this is done through Windows Server inside a domain environment.
- 14:22And this is the main difference between a workgroup and a domain.
- 14:29In a workgroup, there is no centralized management.
- 14:37Each device is independent, and you manage each one separately.
- 14:44But in a domain, everything is centralized and organized.
- 14:52This saves time, effort, and increases security significantly.
- 14:59And this is why you will not find any company
- 15:06working with a workgroup environment. All companies work with domains.
- 15:13Server administration, and we will see together how to start creating the course content in the upcoming topics, God willing.
- 15:20Which is coming, God willing.
- 15:32Okay, before I talk about the content part, what does it even mean that I am building a network? Why do I need a network?
- 15:39Why do companies build networks? Why do they not work individually on devices?
- 15:46This is a very important question.
- 15:50A network simply means that there is more than one device connected together.
- 15:54These devices need to communicate with each other and share resources between them.
- 16:02For example, I might have a printer, and I want everyone in the company to use it.
- 16:09Or I have files that need to be shared between employees.
- 16:16Or I want everyone to access the internet through one organized connection.
- 16:23So instead of every device working alone, we connect them together in a network.
- 16:30This network can be small, like in a small office.
- 16:38Or it can be large, like in a company with many branches.
- 16:45So the idea of networking is organization and sharing.
- 16:52Now, when the number of devices increases, management becomes harder.
- 16:59Imagine having 5 devices, this is easy to manage.
- 17:06But imagine having 50 or 100 devices.
- 17:14Each device has a user, a password, programs, and settings.
- 17:21If each device is managed separately, this will be very exhausting.
- 17:28This is where centralized management becomes necessary.
- 17:35And this is exactly why Windows Server exists.
- 17:43Windows Server is not made for personal use.
- 17:50It is made to manage users, devices, and resources.
- 17:57Instead of managing every device alone, you manage everything from one place.
- 18:04You control users, you control permissions, you control policies.
- 18:11You decide who can log in, who can install software, and who cannot.
- 18:19You control access to files, folders, printers, and shared resources.
- 18:26All of this is done through the domain environment.
- 18:33And this is the core idea of server administration.
- 18:40That is why you will not find any serious company working without a domain.
- 18:48Because without a domain, there is no real control or organization.
- 18:55Everything becomes random and difficult to manage.
- 19:02So during this course, we will focus on understanding this concept very well.
- 19:09We will not just memorize steps, we will understand why we do each step.
- 19:17Because understanding is what will make you a good administrator.
- 19:24And this is what we aim for in this course, God willing.
- 19:31Now, after understanding the idea of networks and management, we will start moving step by step into the practical part.
- 19:38But before that, there are some important concepts we must agree on.
- 19:46One of the most important concepts is the difference between a workgroup and a domain.
- 19:53Many people start working in IT without clearly understanding this difference.
- 20:00And this causes a lot of confusion later on.
- 20:08So let us simplify it as much as possible.
- 20:15A workgroup is a simple environment where each device works independently.
- 20:22There is no central control, no central user database.
- 20:30Each device has its own users, its own passwords, and its own settings.
- 20:37If a user wants to log in to another device, you must create the user again on that device.
- 20:44And if you want to change a password, you must change it on every device.
- 20:52As you can imagine, this becomes very difficult as the number of devices grows.
- 20:59That is why workgroups are only suitable for very small environments.
- 21:06Maybe two or three devices at most.
- 21:14But once you move to a professional environment, a workgroup is no longer enough.
- 21:21This is where the domain comes in.
- 21:28A domain is a centralized environment that is managed by a server.
- 21:36This server is called the Domain Controller.
- 21:43All users, computers, and policies are stored and managed centrally.
- 21:50So when a user logs in, they can log in to any device in the domain.
- 21:58They use the same username and the same password everywhere.
- 22:05And when you change a password, it is changed once for the entire domain.
- 22:12The same applies to policies and permissions.
- 22:20You apply a policy once, and it applies to all devices and users.
- 22:27This saves a lot of time and effort, and increases security significantly.
- 22:34This is why domains are essential in any real company environment.
- 22:41Now, before we actually build a domain, there are some technical requirements.
- 22:49We need a server machine, either a physical server or a virtual machine.
- 22:56This server must have Windows Server installed.
- 23:03It must also have a static IP address, not a dynamic one.
- 23:11Because the Domain Controller must always be reachable on the same address.
- 23:18We will talk about IP addressing and DNS in detail later in the course.
- 23:25But for now, just understand that these are basic requirements.
- 23:33Once these requirements are met, we can start creating our domain.
- 23:40And this is exactly what we will begin doing in the next lessons.
- 23:47So make sure you understand everything we said so far, because it is the foundation for everything coming next.
- 23:56The domain, and this is what we will start talking about now. So this domain must be created on a device that has
- 24:03Windows Server. We talked about this on the client devices. This domain
- 24:07will be created on what? It will be created on a device with Windows Server. Now I want you to focus with me.
- 24:15And do not worry about the terms and the words that will be said now. Just focus on the idea.
- 24:19That I need to create a domain on a Windows Server device.
- 24:27So the domain is not created on Windows Client, it is created on Windows Server.
- 24:33So the first requirement for us is that we have Windows Server installed.
- 24:40After installing Windows Server, do I automatically have a domain?
- 24:47Of course not. Windows Server by itself is just an operating system.
- 24:53It does not automatically become a domain unless I configure it.
- 25:00So I need to configure Windows Server to become a Domain Controller.
- 25:07And this is what we will do step by step together.
- 25:14Now, before creating the domain, there is something very important we need to understand.
- 25:22Which is the name of the domain itself.
- 25:29The domain name is very important, and it must be chosen carefully.
- 25:36Usually, companies use their internal domain name.
- 25:44For example, on the internal domain, most commonly the company name dot local.
- 25:52So we assume that the internal domain name will be the company name dot local.
- 25:59So now, suppose that our domain name is
- 26:03test dot local.
- 26:09So just because I installed Windows Server, does that mean it became a domain? Of course not.
- 26:15Windows Server is an operating system. It needs configuration to become a Domain Controller.
- 26:22So now, after installing Windows Server, we need to add something called a role.
- 26:30This role is called Active Directory Domain Services.
- 26:37This role is the one responsible for creating and managing the domain.
- 26:44Without this role, Windows Server will not become a Domain Controller.
- 26:52So the first step after installing Windows Server is to add the Active Directory role.
- 26:59After adding the role, we need to promote the server to a Domain Controller.
- 27:06This promotion process is what actually creates the domain environment.
- 27:14During this process, we will be asked to specify the domain name.
- 27:21Which, as we said, can be something like test dot local.
- 27:28We will also be asked to set some basic configurations.
- 27:36All of this will be explained and done practically step by step.
- 27:43So do not worry if the terms seem confusing now.
- 27:50Everything will become very clear once we start the practical part.
- 27:58The important thing for you now is to understand the overall idea.
- 28:05That a domain is created on Windows Server, not on Windows Client.
- 28:13And that we need Active Directory to create and manage this domain.
- 28:20After the domain is created, we can start joining client devices to it.
- 28:27These client devices will be Windows Client machines.
- 28:35Once a device is joined to the domain, it becomes managed centrally.
- 28:42We can control users, policies, permissions, and security settings.
- 28:49All of this is done from the Domain Controller.
- 28:57And this is the power of domain-based environments.
- 29:04This is why domains are used in all medium and large companies.
- 29:11And this is exactly what we will master together in this course.
- 29:19So focus with me, and let us move forward step by step.
- 29:26And do not worry, everything will be applied practically.
- 29:34So you will not just understand the theory, you will also know how to implement it.
- 29:41Now, after we understand how the domain is created, we need to understand how devices communicate with it.
- 29:48This communication depends mainly on something called DNS.
- 29:56DNS is one of the most important services in any domain environment.
- 30:03Without DNS, the domain will not function correctly.
- 30:10So when we create a Domain Controller, DNS is installed automatically with it.
- 30:18Because Active Directory depends heavily on DNS.
- 30:25DNS is responsible for name resolution.
- 30:32It translates names into IP addresses.
- 30:40So instead of remembering IP addresses, we work with names.
- 30:47For example, instead of remembering the server IP,
- 30:54we just use its name, and DNS resolves it for us.
- 31:02In a domain environment, this process is critical.
- 31:09That is why DNS must be configured correctly.
- 31:17And we will talk about DNS in a dedicated section later in the course.
- 31:24For now, just remember that DNS and Active Directory are linked together.
- 31:31You cannot have a healthy domain without a healthy DNS configuration.
- 31:39Now, after creating the domain, the next logical step is joining client machines.
- 31:46These clients will be Windows Client devices, such as Windows 10 or Windows 11.
- 31:53Each client must be configured to point to the Domain Controller for DNS.
- 32:01This is very important, and many beginners make mistakes here.
- 32:08If DNS is not configured correctly, the client will not join the domain.
- 32:15So attention to details is very important in this part.
- 32:23Once the client joins the domain, it becomes part of the centralized environment.
- 32:30From that moment, we can manage it from the server.
- 32:38We can apply policies, manage users, and enforce security settings.
- 32:45And this is where you start to see the real power of Active Directory.
- 32:52All of this will be done practically, step by step, during the course.
- 33:00So do not worry if it seems complex now.
- 33:07Everything will become clear once we start applying it with our hands.
- 33:14The most important thing is to stay focused and follow the steps carefully.
- 33:22Because server administration depends a lot on accuracy.
- 33:29A small mistake can cause a big problem.
- 33:36But do not worry, we will learn how to avoid these mistakes together.
- 33:44Now, let us talk a little bit about the workgroup environment.
- 33:51A workgroup is the default configuration for Windows Client devices.
- 33:58When you install Windows on a personal device, it is automatically part of a workgroup.
- 34:06This means that the device is working independently.
- 34:13There is no central server that controls users or policies.
- 34:21Each device has its own local users, its own passwords, and its own settings.
- 34:28This is suitable for home use or very small environments.
- 34:35But once you move to a company environment, this becomes a problem.
- 34:43Because you cannot control everything centrally.
- 34:50That is why companies do not rely on workgroups.
- 34:57Instead, they use domain environments to manage everything centrally.
- 35:05So the difference between a workgroup and a domain is very important to understand.
- 35:12In a workgroup, each device stands alone.
- 35:19In a domain, all devices are connected to a central server.
- 35:27This central server controls users, security, and policies.
- 35:34And this makes management much easier and more secure.
- 35:42Now, let us go back to our practical preparation.
- 35:49Before starting any installation, we need to prepare our environment properly.
- 35:56This includes preparing the virtual machines.
- 36:04We will use virtual machines to build our lab environment.
- 36:11This allows us to practice safely without affecting real systems.
- 36:18We will create a Windows Server machine and one or more Windows Client machines.
- 36:26All of these machines will be connected in one virtual network.
- 36:33This virtual network will simulate a real company network.
- 36:40So everything we do here can be applied later in real life.
- 36:48This is why labs are very important.
- 36:55Do not skip the labs, and do not just watch the videos.
- 37:02Try to apply everything by yourself.
- 37:10Because practice is what will build your real skills.
- 37:17Now, let us start preparing our first virtual machine.
- 37:25Which will be the Windows Server machine.
- 37:32And from there, we will start building our domain step by step.
- 37:39So stay focused with me, and let us continue together.
- 37:47Now, before we start the installation, there are some important notes you must pay attention to.
- 37:54First, make sure that your device can handle running virtual machines.
- 38:01You need enough RAM, enough storage, and virtualization enabled.
- 38:09Virtualization must be enabled from the BIOS or UEFI settings.
- 38:16Without virtualization, virtual machines will not work properly.
- 38:23We will use VMware to create and manage our virtual machines.
- 38:31VMware is one of the most popular tools used in labs and training environments.
- 38:38You can use VMware Workstation or VMware Player.
- 38:46Both will work fine for our purposes.
- 38:53We will install Windows Server on the first virtual machine.
- 39:00And we will install Windows Client on the second virtual machine.
- 39:08These machines will be connected to the same virtual network.
- 39:15This way, they can communicate with each other as if they were real devices.
- 39:22So when we configure the domain, the client machine will be able to join it.
- 39:30Now, one more important thing before we continue.
- 39:37You must follow the steps exactly as shown.
- 39:44Do not skip any step, and do not assume anything.
- 39:52Because server administration depends on precision.
- 39:59A small mistake in the beginning can cause problems later.
- 40:06So take your time, pause the video if needed,
- 40:14and make sure you understand what you are doing.
- 40:21Now, let us start by creating the first virtual machine.
- 40:29We will choose the Windows Server ISO file, and we will go through the installation process.
- 40:36This installation is very similar to installing Windows Client.
- 40:43So do not worry, there is nothing complicated here.
- 40:51We will choose the basic options, and then complete the installation.
- 40:58After that, we will start configuring the server.
- 41:05Step by step, until it becomes a Domain Controller.
- 41:13So get ready, and let us begin with the installation.
- 41:20After the installation is finished, we will do some basic configuration on the server.
- 41:27We will start by setting a proper computer name for the server.
- 41:35Because naming is very important, especially in a domain environment.
- 41:42You should always use clear and meaningful names.
- 41:50After that, we will configure the network settings.
- 41:57We will assign a static IP address to the server.
- 42:04As we mentioned before, a Domain Controller must have a static IP.
- 42:12Dynamic IP addresses are not suitable for servers.
- 42:19Because the address may change, and this will cause problems.
- 42:26So we will configure the IP address manually.
- 42:34IP address, subnet mask, default gateway, and DNS.
- 42:41All of these settings will be explained in detail.
- 42:48After finishing the basic configuration, we will start adding the required roles.
- 42:56The most important role for us is Active Directory Domain Services.
- 43:03We will add this role from the Server Manager.
- 43:10The wizard will guide us through the installation process.
- 43:18We will choose the default options, and then complete the role installation.
- 43:25After the role is installed, the server will not be a Domain Controller yet.
- 43:33We still need to promote it to a Domain Controller.
- 43:40This promotion step is the most important one.
- 43:47Because this is where the domain is actually created.
- 43:55During the promotion, we will specify the domain name.
- 44:02We will also configure the forest and domain functional levels.
- 44:09Do not worry about these terms now, we will explain them when we reach this step.
- 44:17We will also set the Directory Services Restore Mode password.
- 44:24This password is very important, so make sure you remember it.
- 44:31After completing all the steps, the server will restart automatically.
- 44:39After the restart, the server will become a Domain Controller.
- 44:46From this moment, we will officially have a domain environment.
- 44:53Then we can start creating users, groups, and organizational units.
- 45:01And we can start joining client machines to the domain.
- 45:08All of this will be done practically in the upcoming lessons.
- 45:16So do not rush, and make sure you understand each step.
- 45:23Because this is the foundation for everything we will do later.
- 45:30If this foundation is strong, everything else will be easy.
- 45:38But if you miss something here, you will face problems later.
- 45:45So focus with me, and let us continue step by step.
- 45:52Now, in the next lesson, we will start with the actual installation.
- 46:00So make sure you have everything ready.
- 46:07The ISO files, VMware installed, and enough resources.
- 46:14And we will begin together, God willing.
- 46:22Until then, take care, and see you in the next lesson.
- 46:29And whoever does not know how to download it, send it to me.
- 46:36The most important thing, the most important thing is focus.
- 46:43And whoever does not know how to download, send it to me. The most important thing, the most important thing is focus.
- 46:49Seek help from God, God willing. May God grant you all success, guys.
- 46:56Focus with me in the rest of the course. Good luck to everyone, God willing.
- 47:01Peace be upon you and God’s mercy and blessings.
