Why Your Teamwork is BAD in Fortnite (and How to Fix It) — Transcript
Full transcript
- 0:00I strongly believe that teamwork is the
- 0:02single most powerful factor in winning
- 0:05more games of Fortnite, especially
- 0:07Fortnite Zero Build. It is the X factor
- 0:09that most players completely overlook.
- 0:11The truth is simple. A coordinated team
- 0:13with average mechanics will consistently
- 0:16beat an uncoordinated team of sweats.
- 0:18And being a great player isn't about raw
- 0:20mechanics alone. It's also about knowing
- 0:23how to be a great teammate. But here's
- 0:25the problem. Most players have never
- 0:27been taught the laws of teamwork. the
- 0:29invisible rules that determine the
- 0:31outcome of fights and games in Fortnite.
- 0:34That's what this video is about. I'm
- 0:36going to break down the core laws of
- 0:37teamwork in Fortnite, then show you
- 0:39exactly how they play out in real
- 0:41gameplay. If your team applies even half
- 0:44this stuff, you'll win more fights, more
- 0:46end games, more matches, guaranteed. So,
- 0:49make sure to share this video with your
- 0:51teammates to become an unstoppable
- 0:53force. Let's get into it.
- 0:56The laws of teamwork in Fortnite. Law
- 0:58number one, communication is a force
- 1:01multiplier. Good communication makes
- 1:04every fight easier. Bad or missing
- 1:07communication makes everything much
- 1:09harder. So, you should constantly be
- 1:11calling things out like where you're
- 1:13rotating to and why. Asking what your
- 1:15team is doing right now or their general
- 1:17location. Telling your teammates when
- 1:19you have eyes on them and you can
- 1:21support them. Telling them when you
- 1:22don't have line of sight or you can't
- 1:24help them. calling out what utility
- 1:26you're carrying as you move through the
- 1:28map and asking what utility your
- 1:30teammates have as well. This lets
- 1:32everyone know if you have enough
- 1:33mobility to keep up with each other or
- 1:35if you can support each other with
- 1:36things like bunkers or heals. Now, you
- 1:38don't need to be talking non-stop, but
- 1:40silence loses games, so you need to get
- 1:42in the habit of frequently communicating
- 1:45valuable information. Law number two,
- 1:48proximity and line of sight decides
- 1:51fights. Now, if I had to estimate,
- 1:53proximity to your teammates decides
- 1:55about 80% of team fights. If you have
- 1:58eyes on your teammate and the enemy,
- 2:00fights become much easier, and you can
- 2:02multiply your damage output on single
- 2:05targets to cut through the opponent's
- 2:06team quickly. A single player cannot
- 2:08shoot multiple players at once. But if
- 2:11your teammate gets shot and you can't
- 2:13see the enemy or your teammate,
- 2:15something went wrong with your
- 2:16communication before the fight even
- 2:18started, and they have little chance of
- 2:20surviving. And if your teammate gets
- 2:22shot and you can't see the enemy or your
- 2:24teammate, you should probably consider
- 2:26them deceased and something probably
- 2:28went wrong with your communication
- 2:30before the fight even started. Now, I'll
- 2:31just note that the most common issue I
- 2:33see with teammates dying alone is a team
- 2:36that moves out of a POI separately
- 2:38because they don't want to wait for
- 2:40their teammates to be ready. So, try to
- 2:42ensure that your team has a viable
- 2:43loadout to fight before you move out
- 2:45together. And if they don't, you better
- 2:47be supporting them as best as you can.
- 2:49But please don't be the player in a team
- 2:52that has to continue to loot until they
- 2:54have a perfect loadout. Because it won't
- 2:56matter if you're causing your team to
- 2:58get bored to literal death, cause them
- 3:00to wander off alone and die before
- 3:02you're ready to go. Yes, I'm talking to
- 3:05you. You are not the only victim of a
- 3:07bad teammate. You are equally at fault
- 3:09for not keeping pace with your team and
- 3:12communicating your needs. Law number
- 3:14three, stay active in the fight. Your
- 3:17job in a fight is not just to survive.
- 3:20It's to remain a threat. If you
- 3:22disengage too early to hide and heal up
- 3:25or stop applying pressure, your
- 3:26teammates will get isolated, the enemies
- 3:28will gain confidence, and the fight
- 3:30becomes a series of 2v1s, and you're the
- 3:33next casualty after your teammate is
- 3:35knocked. So, try to live by the mantra
- 3:37of fight together, die together. Go
- 3:40allin on supporting your teammate and
- 3:43winning fights together, even if you end
- 3:44up on your knees or very low health.
- 3:47This will make you a better team
- 3:48overall. The worst feeling is fighting
- 3:50alongside your teammate in a 2v2 and not
- 3:52realizing that they left you to heal up
- 3:55and now you get isolated in a 2v1, which
- 3:57is why you always need to communicate to
- 3:59your team during a fight if you're fully
- 4:01leaving or if you're just repositioning
- 4:03to support. If you're low on health
- 4:05during a fight, try to break the aggro
- 4:07of your enemy, but still support your
- 4:09teammate the best you can and vice
- 4:11versa. Even if you have to run around in
- 4:13circles around a single piece of cover
- 4:15while your teammate shoots the enemy in
- 4:17the back, that is much more effective
- 4:19than jumping out of the fight and then
- 4:20having yourself probably get hunted down
- 4:22as well. Sometimes being the bait or the
- 4:24distraction in the fight is the most
- 4:26effective thing you can do for your
- 4:27teammate who's trying to support you. It
- 4:29actually makes a lot of fights very
- 4:30easy. Law number four, stay alive, keep
- 4:34alive. If your teammate dies when you're
- 4:37nearby, something broke down. Usually,
- 4:39it's one of three things. You weren't
- 4:41looking at the same target, you weren't
- 4:43applying enough pressure, or you weren't
- 4:45positioned to support. Keeping your
- 4:47teammates alive and on their feet
- 4:49matters far more than chasing
- 4:51eliminations. There is exponential power
- 4:53in numbers, so keeping your team alive
- 4:56greatly increases the odds of winning
- 4:58games. Even if you consider your
- 4:59teammates cannon fodder, they can be the
- 5:01perfect distraction for the fragger on
- 5:03your team to take down opponents. But
- 5:05when your team's down and all the
- 5:07opponent's guns are focused on you, you
- 5:09have very little chance of winning or
- 5:11making any big plays. Law number five,
- 5:14synchronization
- 5:15wins or loses fights. Timing matters far
- 5:20more than people realize. If you and
- 5:22your teammate are even a few seconds out
- 5:24of sync, an offensive push can fail,
- 5:26causing a bad 1v2 situation. The enemy
- 5:29team feels no pressure and has full
- 5:31freedom to attack the solo, and the
- 5:33fight completely falls apart because
- 5:35it's like the enemy is dealing double
- 5:37damage. Good teams synchronize their
- 5:39attack down to the second and ensure
- 5:42that they're the ones dealing the double
- 5:44damage and outputting the most pressure.
- 5:46This is what makes fights easy. Perfect
- 5:49timing makes average plays unbeatable
- 5:52and bad timing makes good players look
- 5:54terrible. Law number six, unity beats
- 5:58perfection. A bad plan executed together
- 6:01is better than a great plan executed
- 6:04alone. Hesitation, debate, and split
- 6:07decisions lose fights. Just fight
- 6:10together and either win together or go
- 6:12down together. That's how teams learn
- 6:15faster together and become an
- 6:17unstoppable force. Overall, the core
- 6:19truth is that Fortnite's team games are
- 6:21not won by the best individual players.
- 6:24They're won by the most coordinated
- 6:26team. Now, I'm going to give you real
- 6:28gameplay examples of everything I just
- 6:30explained to illustrate what good
- 6:32teamwork looks like. These clips will
- 6:34feature the legendary player Slinky, who
- 6:36also has a great Fortnite YouTube
- 6:38channel that you should definitely check
- 6:40out. Let's get into it. All right,
- 6:41here's our first clip, which I think
- 6:43illustrates communication pretty well
- 6:44and synchronization. Oh, on the center
- 6:48with my mark, but he's down the cliff
- 6:51and on the bridge just standing out.
- 6:5480 126 and this guy right behind the
- 6:56pole. Cracked
- 6:59>> that bunk. You are pushing or what? Not
- 7:03>> I am now
- 7:04>> cuz we got to go in zone. I'm going to
- 7:05land.
- 7:09>> Ow. Impressive shots.
- 7:13He's jumping. He's on the backside. His
- 7:15teammate's landing on him. Catwoman's
- 7:18hurt, too.
- 7:20>> Hunker bouncing. Oh,
- 7:23>> cracked on the Catwoman. We should jump
- 7:24on that.
- 7:27>> I'm late. I'm late.
- 7:30That one.
- 7:33>> Oh, yeah. Nice.
- 7:36What I want you to take away from this
- 7:37clip is the level of communication and
- 7:39clarification. Notice how I explained
- 7:41where the players were located and how
- 7:43much damage I did, as well as dropping a
- 7:45pin on the location for my teammate to
- 7:47see. You'll also notice that I asked for
- 7:48clarification for my teammate to see if
- 7:50he was pushing or not because I didn't
- 7:52quite understand him. I then get eyes on
- 7:54my teammate and try to see what he is
- 7:56seeing to better understand what's
- 7:57happening. I then make a quick plan to
- 7:59bunker bounce these players out, which
- 8:01pushes them out of their bunker with the
- 8:03tires of my bunker. And then I try to
- 8:05coordinate as quick as I can, but my
- 8:07teammate actually gets in the fight
- 8:08ahead of me and I'm not synced up. So I
- 8:10try to make it very clear to him that I
- 8:12am not in the fight and I am delayed,
- 8:14but I'll be there soon. This guides his
- 8:16decision to back into cover and
- 8:17reposition so he's not taking damage
- 8:19from two angles and not receiving any
- 8:21support. Here's another clip that
- 8:22displays the importance of line of sight
- 8:25even though I am not in close proximity
- 8:27to my teammate. Notice how he
- 8:28repositions to allow me to support him.
- 8:32See, now I'm close in proximity to you.
- 8:34So if you back down,
- 8:36>> I can see you.
- 8:39>> 135.
- 8:41>> Absolutely destroyed.
- 8:42>> Damage the pump does.
- 8:44>> His decision to give me line of sight
- 8:46turns that hard 2v1 into an easy 2v2
- 8:49where I am supporting from afar. Here's
- 8:51another clip that illustrates staying
- 8:53alive and active in the fight for your
- 8:55teammate. Notice how I communicate that
- 8:56I'm stuck in the 2v1 and I'm trying to
- 8:58buy time for my teammate to come support
- 9:00me. Once he gets into the fight with me,
- 9:02I return to supporting him and dealing
- 9:04damage.
- 9:0660 80
- 9:09>> I'm not landing directly on him.
- 9:11>> You're not.
- 9:12>> I will not make a bad choice.
- 9:14>> I am throwing a bunker against their
- 9:15bunker. They might be bounced. Probably
- 9:17not. I know two one v two if you can do
- 9:20some damage. Trying to just dance one's
- 9:24one shot basically.
- 9:30when you say one shot.
- 9:32>> Oh, I was lying to you 100%. I was
- 9:34trying to make you feel confident.
- 9:36>> Thanks, dude. We exchanged a little joke
- 9:38about his call out of one shot, but
- 9:40ultimately it was good teamwork because
- 9:42I was surviving for my teammate, buying
- 9:44some time for him to get active in the
- 9:46fight, being a good distraction and some
- 9:48bait, and then supporting him once he
- 9:50was active as well. Here's another
- 9:51example of staying alive and active in
- 9:53the fight. And we play reverse roles.
- 9:55>> Stairs
- 9:56that direction.
- 9:57>> Oh, they're on the back side.
- 10:01>> Wait to engage. I'm not
- 10:03>> Kardashian skin. I'm waiting. I'm
- 10:04waiting. I'm with you.
- 10:05>> I'm with you. Okay.
- 10:06>> I'm with you. We are with each other.
- 10:10>> All right.
- 10:13>> Crunched.
- 10:17You'll notice how I was kind of lost in
- 10:19that fight and not able to put damage or
- 10:21pressure on the enemy, but my presence
- 10:23with the visual audio footsteps and
- 10:26being in close proximity to the enemies
- 10:28made them feel like they were in danger
- 10:30and allowed my teammate to make enough
- 10:31moves and buy enough time for me to
- 10:33finally get active in the fight. Here's
- 10:35another clip of staying alive and active
- 10:36in the fight for your teammate. But I
- 10:38also want you to pay attention to the
- 10:39call outs we're making before we exit
- 10:41our POI. I'm talking about what I'm
- 10:43carrying and I'm asking what he's
- 10:44carrying so I know if he can support me
- 10:46from afar or not.
- 10:49All right. I got crashes. I'm ready to
- 10:51go.
- 10:53All right. Well, there's fighting over
- 10:54at that gas station, which is what I was
- 10:56going to.
- 10:57>> Do you have a scope AR?
- 11:00>> No, but I got some ge
- 11:02do the dot to do the job probably. Okay.
- 11:05Didn't work the second time.
- 11:07Yes.
- 11:16Oh, that I can't climb that. That is
- 11:19unclimbable. That one.
- 11:21>> Other one went this direction in the
- 11:23bush.
- 11:25>> Nine. So much damage.
- 11:27>> Oh, that's deflating.
- 11:29>> Get him, Toby.
- 11:30>> Wait, you're still alive. But there's
- 11:32That's not possible, though. Yeah,
- 11:34that's not possible.
- 11:36And then you notice how Slinky literally
- 11:38gets down to one HP in this fight, but
- 11:41manages to stay alive, which makes the
- 11:43fight very easy because he remains a
- 11:45threat and keeps the players from
- 11:47pushing a 2v1 against myself. He heals
- 11:50up very quickly with a nearby slurp
- 11:52truck and then gets right back into the
- 11:53fight, even at 100 HP. And overall, that
- 11:56makes what looked like a scuffed fight
- 11:58actually very easy. Here's another clip
- 11:59that demonstrates staying active in the
- 12:01fight even when you're hurt and doing
- 12:03your best to keep your teammate alive. I
- 12:05jump in on a player to finish a fight
- 12:07and end up getting third partied by
- 12:08another team who is actually pretty
- 12:10sweaty. I shockwave out, but I get very
- 12:12hurt in the process, but I do not fully
- 12:14exit the fight. Instead, I get myself to
- 12:16a fairly safe position and look back on
- 12:18my teammate to watch him in case he gets
- 12:21jumped as well. The enemy team does end
- 12:23up jumping them, but they give me free
- 12:25damage because they don't realize that I
- 12:27didn't fully leave. Slinky does end up
- 12:29going down, but we both do plenty of
- 12:31damage to make the fight very easy. And
- 12:33that is the importance of staying active
- 12:35in the fight even when you're hurt and
- 12:36supporting your teammate. Now you're
- 12:38getting excited. Should I push that?
- 12:40>> No, there's they're playing weird angles
- 12:42now. One's in the bush, one's on this
- 12:43rock.
- 12:45>> Oh, they're getting pushed. Go, go, go,
- 12:46go, go, go, go.
- 12:49>> Down. Get lightning.
- 12:52>> Oh, now I just inserted myself into the
- 12:55>> Oh, I'll be with you. It's okay. It's
- 12:57okay.
- 12:57Oh my goodness. Careful, careful,
- 13:00careful.
- 13:01>> They ain't playing. I'm watching the
- 13:03hill, but I'm not like
- 13:05>> 100.
- 13:06>> 100 100.
- 13:07>> One shot. One shot.
- 13:08>> For real. Dead
- 13:09>> behind you.
- 13:12>> I threw a shock wave at him by accident
- 13:13instead of a bunker. 100.
- 13:19>> Threw a shock wave at him when I was
- 13:21trying to throw a bunker down. No.
- 13:23Here's a clip that illustrates
- 13:25synchronizing with your teammate down to
- 13:27the very second of when you make a push.
- 13:29I tell my teammate to stall so we can
- 13:31land at the exact same time. And then we
- 13:32put an immense amount of pressure on
- 13:34each player, focusing our shots
- 13:36together.
- 13:37>> Wait, stall. Stall. Stall.
- 13:41>> You just do balloon.
- 13:47>> I've done tens of damage so
- 13:50>> tens. 20s. You'll notice how Slinky says
- 13:53that he basically did no damage there,
- 13:55but it doesn't matter because there's
- 13:56two of us. That's too much pressure.
- 13:58That's too many targets, and it turns
- 14:00the fight into what feels like a 1v2 for
- 14:03each of those players, which also makes
- 14:04them feel like they lost the fight
- 14:06before it even started. All right,
- 14:07here's another clip of synchronizing
- 14:09with your team.
- 14:10>> Oh, there's
- 14:14unrelated. Oh, he almost just killed me.
- 14:16What the
- 14:18>> See how good of a team I am?
- 14:24Go Toby. Go Toby. Yeah. Yeah.
- 14:28You hit fish. Who carries floppers? How
- 14:30do you
- 14:31>> Another one.
- 14:32>> Oh, another person. Yeah,
- 14:33>> I got it. I got Santa's one shot.
- 14:37>> Santa Snoop Loop. One's on the roof
- 14:39behind. Correct.
- 14:41>> Nice.
- 14:43>> Look at me canceling my heal to come
- 14:44help you.
- 14:45>> Slurp you. I got a slurp for you. I want
- 14:46you to notice the decision-making there
- 14:48and the aggression to protect my
- 14:49teammate, keep him alive, and also
- 14:51synchronize. In the first fight, I
- 14:53managed to land a little bit of damage
- 14:54and knock the player before he knocks
- 14:56Slinky. Slinky's able to stay on his
- 14:58feet and heal up. Meanwhile, I instantly
- 15:00go into aggression on the next enemy so
- 15:03they don't knock Slinky while he's
- 15:04trying to heal. Slinky recognizes that I
- 15:06have that fight pretty easily. He drops
- 15:08down and runs into another player, but
- 15:10I'm in close proximity and I'm
- 15:11synchronized, so I am helping him as
- 15:13much as I can and vice versa. It ends up
- 15:16being two different players coming in at
- 15:18separate times, not synchronized like
- 15:20us, which makes the fights very easy.
- 15:22You'll even notice that I cancelled my
- 15:24shield pot healing just to get into the
- 15:26fight and sync up with my teammate and
- 15:28make the fight an easy 2v1, which I
- 15:31believe paid off a lot because I think
- 15:33the second player probably would have
- 15:34knocked Slinky and then it would have
- 15:36turned into more of a 1v one. Nice.
- 15:40>> Look at me cancelling my heal to come
- 15:41help you.
- 15:42>> Slurp for you. I got a slurp for you.
- 15:43>> Thank you. I got three brother
- 15:47more than
- 15:47>> we actually banter a little bit about
- 15:49who can be the best teammates. So I call
- 15:51out things like canceling my heal to
- 15:52come help him and that kind of
- 15:54encourages like a funny friendly
- 15:56competition about who the best teammate
- 15:58is, which only helps us win more games.
- 16:00Here's another clip of synchronizing
- 16:01with your teammates, but also pay close
- 16:03attention to the call outs that we're
- 16:05making as we push the team. We let each
- 16:07other know kind of what inventory we
- 16:09have. We make a quick plan to jump on
- 16:11the roof. I let him know that I have
- 16:13bunkers so that we can play those during
- 16:15the fight. And then we sync up and we
- 16:16focus one player at a time. You'll
- 16:18notice that I jump backwards to fight
- 16:19with him just to make it easy 2v1s. Yep.
- 16:24Three bucks. Oh, they're right behind
- 16:26this blue fence.
- 16:28>> Blue fence, baby.
- 16:33>> Bunker bouncing.
- 16:36One's underneath my bunk coming with
- 16:39you. One is no longer in your body.
- 16:44>> There's simply no escape here.
- 16:45>> And one more example clip of
- 16:46synchronizing with your teammates to
- 16:48make fights easy and output a lot of
- 16:50damage together.
- 16:53>> Only two left. Oh, they're all here.
- 16:54They're all here. Yeah, I'm jumping on
- 16:55that team with you.
- 16:58>> On that guy, that guy.
- 17:01>> Nice, nice, nice.
- 17:04I also want you to recognize how I
- 17:06turned from aggression in supporting
- 17:07Slinky to quickly playing my own life
- 17:10and surviving for him so that he could
- 17:12then go to aggression and support me.
- 17:14So, your job kind of changes in the
- 17:16fight based on your situation, but
- 17:17basically you got to stay alive for your
- 17:18teammate and keep your teammate alive
