Why You Lost Interest In Everything After Awakening | Carl Jung's Wisdom — Transcript
Full transcript
- 0:00Why do your favorite hobbies suddenly
- 0:03feel meaningless after awakening?
- 0:06The passions that once defined you, the
- 0:08things that made life exciting, start to
- 0:11lose their flavor. And it feels
- 0:13confusing, even scary, like part of you
- 0:16has died.
- 0:18Carl Jung warned that awakening isn't
- 0:21all bliss and love. It's also a
- 0:23dismantling. And one of the first signs
- 0:26is losing interest in the things that
- 0:28once gave you joy.
- 0:30Not because you're lazy or broken, but
- 0:33because something deeper is happening in
- 0:35your psyche. This is a common but
- 0:37misunderstood experience. You're not
- 0:40crazy and you're not alone. Jung's
- 0:43psychology explains exactly why this
- 0:46happens. And by the end of this video,
- 0:48you'll not only understand why your old
- 0:51hobbies feel meaningless, you'll see how
- 0:53this emptiness is actually a sign of
- 0:55growth. So stay with me because what
- 0:58feels like a loss is actually the
- 1:01beginning of a more authentic life.
- 1:04Before awakening, hobbies usually serve
- 1:06the ego and often function as identity
- 1:09markers. The gamer, the artist, the
- 1:11musician, the athlete. Your hobby
- 1:14becomes part of the mask you wear, the
- 1:16persona as Jung called it. Think about
- 1:19it. Hobbies give you achievement,
- 1:22status, or a sense of belonging. They
- 1:24can be ways to distract yourself from
- 1:26stress or to prove your worth to others.
- 1:29That's why they feel so exciting in the
- 1:31ego phase because they reinforce your
- 1:33sense of me. But awakening cracks that
- 1:36mask. Suddenly, the old motivation
- 1:40doesn't work anymore. winning a game,
- 1:42posting a painting on social media, or
- 1:45even writing a song doesn't feel as
- 1:47fulfilling because the part of you that
- 1:50cared so much, the ego identity has
- 1:53started dissolving. That loss of
- 1:55motivation isn't a mistake. It's a sign
- 1:58that your psyche is shifting. What once
- 2:01fueled your ego no longer feeds your
- 2:04soul. So, if the ego-driven hobbies no
- 2:07longer hold meaning, what comes next?
- 2:10This is where Jung's insight gets
- 2:12fascinating. He said, "Awakening is a
- 2:14confrontation with the self, the deeper
- 2:17core of who you are. And when that self
- 2:19begins to surface, it reorders
- 2:22everything. This is why your old values
- 2:25start to collapse. Goals that once made
- 2:28sense, winning, achieving, collecting,
- 2:31competing, suddenly feel like chasing
- 2:34smoke because your psyche has shifted
- 2:36its focus from the persona to the self.
- 2:39Before awakening, your pleasures were
- 2:42tied to external rewards. Getting
- 2:45recognition, feeling productive, and
- 2:47stacking achievements. All of that was
- 2:50tied to the outer world. But when
- 2:52awakening cracks, you open to a larger
- 2:54reality. Maybe through breath work,
- 2:57psychedelics, deep inner work, or sheer
- 3:00life experience. The outer world just
- 3:03doesn't shine the same way anymore. The
- 3:06hobbies that once brought you excitement
- 3:08can suddenly feel stripped of their
- 3:10magic. Because many of those hobbies
- 3:13were tied to proving something to
- 3:15yourself, to others, to the world.
- 3:18Painting wasn't just painting. It was a
- 3:21way to feel talented. Gaming wasn't just
- 3:25fun. It was a way to feel accomplished.
- 3:28Shopping wasn't just shopping. It was a
- 3:31way to feel worthy, stylish, or enough.
- 3:35But after awakening, when the mask of
- 3:37persona begins to fall, you realize you
- 3:41don't have to prove anything anymore.
- 3:44The drive to seek validation through
- 3:45hobbies collapses. What once felt like
- 3:48nourishment now feels like performance.
- 3:51And the moment you no longer need to be
- 3:53seen as the gamer, the artist, or the
- 3:56achiever, the fuel behind those
- 3:58activities evaporates.
- 4:00This isn't loss. It's liberation.
- 4:04It means your soul is no longer content
- 4:06with chasing recognition or building
- 4:08identity through hobbies. Instead, it's
- 4:11turning inward, searching for meaning
- 4:14beyond performance. The reason this
- 4:16feels so disorienting is because hobbies
- 4:19were never just hobbies. They were part
- 4:21of your story. They told you who you
- 4:24were. But when awakening confronts you
- 4:26with the self, it dissolves those old
- 4:29labels. That's why you might feel lost,
- 4:32like you don't know yourself anymore.
- 4:34The old map is gone, but the new one
- 4:36hasn't been drawn yet. And in that
- 4:39space, everything feels pointless.
- 4:43Here's the important part. Jung didn't
- 4:45see this as the end of joy. He saw it as
- 4:48the stripping away of illusions to make
- 4:50room for something deeper. Your old
- 4:53value systems collapse because they were
- 4:55built on persona and conditioning. What
- 4:58comes next, though it takes time, are
- 5:00soul aligned passions, activities not
- 5:03born from ego, but from authenticity.
- 5:07And yes, there is a void in between, a
- 5:10silence, a strange nothingness where
- 5:13things that once mattered now feel
- 5:15empty. But that void has a purpose.
- 5:19Here's the raw truth. Not all hobbies
- 5:22were hobbies. Some were escapes. Maybe
- 5:25you painted to avoid loneliness. Maybe
- 5:28you gamed to silence anxiety. Maybe you
- 5:31were singing because you felt unseen and
- 5:33unnoticed. On the surface, it looked
- 5:37like fun or passion. But underneath,
- 5:40many hobbies were unconscious strategies
- 5:42to soothe pain you didn't want to face.
- 5:45Carl Jung called this the shadow. those
- 5:48hidden wounds, fears, and emotions we
- 5:51bury because they don't fit the version
- 5:53of ourselves we want to believe in. And
- 5:55here's what awakening does. It pulls
- 5:58that shadow out of hiding. Suddenly, the
- 6:01hobby you once relied on doesn't give
- 6:03the same relief because it was never
- 6:06really about the hobby. It was about
- 6:08avoiding the feelings underneath. So,
- 6:11when awakening happens, the psyche
- 6:13starts dismantling these distractions.
- 6:16It's like your soul saying, "No more
- 6:18band-aids. Face the wound." That's why
- 6:21you lose interest. Not because you're
- 6:23bored of your passions, but because the
- 6:26passions were serving as masks. When the
- 6:28mask falls, the coping mechanism fails,
- 6:31and that can feel brutal. Suddenly, you
- 6:35can't run from your shadow. You have to
- 6:37sit with it. This stage can feel
- 6:39depressing, even hopeless. People often
- 6:43say, "I don't enjoy anything anymore.
- 6:46What's wrong with me?" But Jungian
- 6:49psychology says, "Nothing's wrong. In
- 6:52fact, this is a breakthrough because for
- 6:55the first time, you're meeting yourself
- 6:57without distraction. You're no longer
- 6:59hiding behind endless activity. You're
- 7:02seeing the loneliness, the fear, the
- 7:05grief, the longing. And while it hurts,
- 7:08it's also profoundly healing by sitting
- 7:12with the shadow. Instead of painting
- 7:14over it, you begin to integrate it. You
- 7:18learn that loneliness isn't a death
- 7:20sentence. It's a doorway to
- 7:22self-connection.
- 7:24Fear isn't a weakness. It's a signal to
- 7:27be honored. Grief isn't a curse. It's a
- 7:30teacher. Losing your old escapes feels
- 7:33like losing part of yourself, but really
- 7:36it's losing the veil. And here's where
- 7:39it gets even deeper.
- 7:42This stage of losing your hobbies,
- 7:44facing the void, and meeting your shadow
- 7:47isn't just a detour. It's part of what
- 7:50mystics call the dark knight of the
- 7:52soul. The Dark Knight is not about
- 7:55despair for despair's sake. It's about
- 7:58dismantling the illusions that once
- 8:00structured your life. Jung would say
- 8:03it's the collapse of the old psychic
- 8:05order. The things that gave you meaning.
- 8:08Your hobbies, goals, pleasures suddenly
- 8:12fall apart. And at first, it feels like
- 8:14a kind of death. You wake up one morning
- 8:17and the spark is gone. Music feels like
- 8:20noise. Painting feels forced. Gaming
- 8:24feels like repetition. Shopping feels
- 8:26pointless. Even life itself seems
- 8:29stripped of color. But here's the
- 8:32secret. This death of meaning isn't an
- 8:35ending at all. It's a sacred transition.
- 8:38When the old self dissolves, the psyche
- 8:41enters a liinal space caught between who
- 8:44you were and who you're becoming. The
- 8:47hobbies belonged to the old you. They
- 8:50were tied to the persona, the mask. And
- 8:52when that mask falls, they no longer
- 8:55fit. That's why everything feels dead.
- 8:58It's not because life has no meaning.
- 9:00It's because the old meaning system has
- 9:02collapsed. You can't force yourself back
- 9:05into it. You can't reattach the mask.
- 9:09Jung compared this to alchemy. The
- 9:11psyche must undergo a negrado, a
- 9:15blackening, a dissolving before anything
- 9:18new can be born. The dark night is the
- 9:21psychological negrado. The burning away
- 9:24of what no longer serves so that new
- 9:26gold can emerge. As painful as it feels,
- 9:30this void has a function. It strips away
- 9:33false motivations. It forces you to sit
- 9:36with silence, with emptiness, with
- 9:38nothing to prove and nothing to hide
- 9:40behind. It teaches you that you are not
- 9:44your hobbies. You are not your
- 9:46achievements. You are not the roles
- 9:48you've played. When everything external
- 9:50loses meaning, you are invited to touch
- 9:53something deeper. The ground of being
- 9:56itself.
- 9:57The self, as Jung would call it. Not the
- 10:00ego self that needs validation, but the
- 10:03deeper self that simply is. And from
- 10:06that ground, new forms of meaning
- 10:08eventually sprout. But this time,
- 10:11they're not ego-driven, they're
- 10:13souldriven.
- 10:14Jung called this process individuation.
- 10:18Becoming your true self, whole and
- 10:20undivided.
- 10:22Losing your old hobbies is not the end
- 10:24of creativity. It's the clearing of the
- 10:26field so that authentic creativity can
- 10:29grow. Maybe painting comes back not as a
- 10:33way to prove your talent but as
- 10:35meditation. Maybe music returns not to
- 10:38show off but to express your soul. Maybe
- 10:42new passions appear. gardening, writing,
- 10:45walking in nature that you never
- 10:47expected. These aren't hobbies in the
- 10:49old sense. They're not escapes. They're
- 10:52expressions of your being. When
- 10:54individuation begins, your joy shifts
- 10:57from doing to achieve into doing to be.
- 11:01The activity itself becomes nourishment,
- 11:03not a mask. So, what would Yung suggest?
- 11:06If you're here, stuck in the void,
- 11:09grieving your lost passions. Be patient
- 11:12with the void. Don't force old hobbies
- 11:14back into your life. Allow the
- 11:16emptiness. It's part of the process.
- 11:19Experiment with new expressions. Try
- 11:21journaling, walking in nature, silence,
- 11:24or forms of art you've never explored.
- 11:27Let the self guide you. Observe your
- 11:30shadow. Ask yourself, was this hobby
- 11:33feeding my soul or feeding my persona?
- 11:37That question alone can reframe
- 11:39everything. Trust the process of
- 11:41individuation.
- 11:43Something new will emerge, but only
- 11:46after you've let go of what no longer
- 11:48serves. If you're moving through this
- 11:50stage right now, remember, you're not
- 11:53alone. Thousands of souls on this path
- 11:56are feeling the same emptiness, the same
- 11:58loss of meaning. So, let's make this a
- 12:01conversation. What passion or hobby did
- 12:04you lose after your awakening? And what
- 12:06do you feel is trying to be born in its
- 12:08place? Drop it in the comments. It could
- 12:11be exactly what someone else needs to
