  1. 0:00Teriyaki, next question. Hey Alec, can
  2. 0:02you give me your number one tip for
  3. 0:03sales, communication, and leadership?
  4. 0:06Leadership.
  5. 0:07Hey! Number one tip. What's your number
  6. 0:10one tip for leadership?
  7. 0:11>> for sales, communication, and
  8. 0:12leadership.
  9. 0:12>> starting with leadership. We're starting
  10. 0:13with leadership.
  11. 0:14>> I mean, the number one tip for
  12. 0:15leadership is
  13. 0:17the first chapter of my book, which is
  14. 0:19you have to define what good looks like.
  15. 0:20Most people are really bad at leadership
  16. 0:22because they don't take time
  17. 0:24to define what's good. And if you can't
  18. 0:26define what good looks like, you cannot
  19. 0:28give feedback to it, you can't coach to
  20. 0:30it, you can't expect people to uphold
  21. 0:32it.
  22. 0:32>> Can't model it.
  23. 0:33>> You can't model it yourself. If you do
  24. 0:35model it, people don't know what you're
  25. 0:36doing.
  26. 0:37So, be able to articulate your
  27. 0:40expectations and define them in terms of
  28. 0:42the outcome you want and the way you
  29. 0:44want them to get that outcome,
  30. 0:45that's pretty much everything. And I
  31. 0:47think a lot of people think, oh well,
  32. 0:48that sounds more like management. Well,
  33. 0:50what's the difference between management
  34. 0:51and leadership? I would love somebody to
  35. 0:52tell me, so.
  36. 0:53>> Mhm.
  37. 0:55Shooting shots.
  38. 0:56>> Shooting shots.
  39. 0:57>> Um I'll say from sales and
  40. 0:58communication, what might
  41. 1:00>> You'll be fine.
  42. 1:02>> What?
  43. 1:02>> I don't know, you'll be fine.
  44. 1:04>> All right.
  45. 1:04>> I'll put some sunscreen on.
  46. 1:05>> Well, we'll have to maybe Layla will do
  47. 1:07a a sunscreen break for me. Um
  48. 1:10from a communication perspective,
  49. 1:12I mean this in the most sincerity,
  50. 1:15you have to describe what you want in
  51. 1:17observable terms. Like I I will probably
  52. 1:21say it'll probably on my on my [ __ ]
  53. 1:22tombstone.
  54. 1:23If if you can't describe it in terms
  55. 1:25that someone can see with their eyes or
  56. 1:28do with their hands,
  57. 1:29>> or measure,
  58. 1:29>> or which again, if you can see, you can
  59. 1:31measure it. It's observable, right? And
  60. 1:33so again, it's not like, hey man, I need
  61. 1:35you to stop being lazy, it's I need you
  62. 1:36to respond to Slack messages faster,
  63. 1:39right? And then do it Can I measure
  64. 1:42being lazy? No. Can I measure your your
  65. 1:44response rates? Yes. Right? So like, at
  66. 1:47the most basic level,
  67. 1:49can you measure it?
  68. 1:50And so whenever and so it's funny cuz I
  69. 1:53sometimes I'll be in a conversation with
  70. 1:55somebody who's like been around me long
  71. 1:56enough, they'll be like, can you define
  72. 1:57what that means?" They're trying to like
  73. 1:58catch me using my own stuff. And I'm
  74. 1:59like, "Dude, I will always define what I
  75. 2:01mean because I know what I'm saying,
  76. 2:02right?" And so, you will find yourself
  77. 2:05speaking with more conviction because
  78. 2:07you are speaking in concrete terms that
  79. 2:09leave no room for misinterpretation. And
  80. 2:12so, by doing it that way, some people
  81. 2:13say like that sounds more robotic, but
  82. 2:14it also just means it's [ __ ] clear.
  83. 2:16Right? Everyone's on the same page.
  84. 2:18Sorry, I get very I get very heated up
  85. 2:20about this with the heat on my back,
  86. 2:22quite literally.
  87. 2:23>> Yeah, yeah, I'm getting sunscreen.
  88. 2:24>> You're going to go get some? All right,
  89. 2:26I'll answer. It's got to coming.
  90. 2:28>> It's coming.
  91. 2:29>> All right, we're going to get Cabana
