Why Video Game Developers Hate Making Doors — Transcript
Full transcript
- 0:00Doors are one of the most frustrating
- 0:01things to build in video games. They
- 0:02look simple, but every shape and opening
- 0:04style may require different animations.
- 0:06If something blocks the doorway, the
- 0:08game also needs extra physics and
- 0:09interactions. That is why some
- 0:11developers remove doors entirely or
- 0:13replace them with automatic ones. The
- 0:14hardest [music] type is a door opened by
- 0:16hand. Reaching for the handle, pulling
- 0:18it open, and walking through must all be
- 0:20carefully animated step-by-step. So,
- 0:21when a character uses the same animation
- 0:23for every door, there is a reason. And
- 0:25if one door takes this much work,
- 0:27imagine how much effort went into every
- 0:28door [music] in Red Dead Redemption.
