  91. 2:34latest news from Hurricane Ian continues
  92. 2:36to be devastating obviously the strike
  93. 2:39by Hurricane Ian on the west coast of
  94. 2:40Florida has had some dire consequences
  95. 2:42some hundreds of people apparently
  96. 2:44missing the Florida government is doing
  97. 2:46an excellent job of ensuring that the
  98. 2:48resources have been brought to bear you
  99. 2:49have emergency teams that are on the
  100. 2:51ground essentially right away looking
  101. 2:52for people trying to help out any
  102. 2:54survivors the the state itself is
  103. 2:56mobilizing not just in terms of State
  104. 2:58resources but also in terms of private
  105. 2:59Charities pretty much every private
  106. 3:01institution in Florida has been
  107. 3:02mobilizing trying to gather food and
  108. 3:04resources for people who are out of
  109. 3:06power on the west coast of Florida the
  110. 3:09storm hurricane Ian continues to
  111. 3:11actually swirl around off now the east
  112. 3:13coast of the United States it's going to
  113. 3:15make landfall again in South Carolina it
  114. 3:16may in fact be a hurricane at that point
  115. 3:18according to the Washington and post Ian
  116. 3:20is a hurricane once again a storm system
  117. 3:21that re-intensified Thursday evenings it
  118. 3:23turns towards South Carolina with 85
  119. 3:25mile per hour winds and with the
  120. 3:26National Hurricane Center called
  121. 3:27life-threatening flooding and storm
  122. 3:28surge it's set for yet another U.S
  123. 3:30landfall this time near Charleston
  124. 3:31around midday on Friday
  125. 3:33in its wake Ian left a path of
  126. 3:35Devastation in Florida though much of
  127. 3:36the state is still making sense of the
  128. 3:38exact toll after rescue missions began
  129. 3:39on Thursday and an evening briefing
  130. 3:41Governor Rhonda Santa said that he
  131. 3:43expected to have mortality from the
  132. 3:45hurricane there had been more than 700
  133. 3:46confirmed rescues thus far he also spoke
  134. 3:48of indescribable damage including
  135. 3:50buildings picked up off their
  136. 3:51foundations by the intense wind more
  137. 3:53than 2.1 million customers remain
  138. 3:54without power in Florida in Virginia
  139. 3:56Georgia North Carolina and South
  140. 3:57Carolina Governors declared states of
  141. 3:59emergency ahead of Ian's expected shift
  142. 4:01in their Direction Rhonda Sanchez
  143. 4:03yesterday visited the Hurricane Relief
  144. 4:05Center in Florida and here is what he
  145. 4:07had to say
  146. 4:08there's gonna be a lot of people that
  147. 4:09need help and I know you guys have been
  148. 4:11on the front lines of doing that so I
  149. 4:12just want to say thank you we'll be back
  150. 4:14uh we'll be back tomorrow we'll probably
  151. 4:16be back you know every day for a while
  152. 4:18um and so we're here to help and uh when
  153. 4:20you guys need anything he knows could
  154. 4:22call all these other people know just
  155. 4:24give us a call and I'll make sure Kevin
  156. 4:26gets it done so thanks everybody
  157. 4:27appreciate it
  158. 4:30as we say there's now an attempt being
  159. 4:32made to rescue people who are stuck in
  160. 4:35places like Fort Myers people who stayed
  161. 4:36in their homes because they either they
  162. 4:37couldn't leave or because they made a
  163. 4:39bad decision to stay in their homes
  164. 4:40there's also an attempt to get their
  165. 4:41power back on because again a couple
  166. 4:43million people do not have power at this
  167. 4:45point Governor DeSantis said they
  168. 4:47absolutely expect to have mortality
  169. 4:48again nobody knows the death toll at
  170. 4:50this point from this storm for his part
  171. 4:52President Biden did a good thing
  172. 4:54yesterday he was asked about Florida and
  173. 4:55Governor DeSantis and his relationship
  174. 4:57with the Sans he was visiting FEMA and
  175. 4:59uh and he said that it's not worth
  176. 5:01politicizing all of this that he and
  177. 5:03Governor understands are working
  178. 5:04together which is exactly what the
  179. 5:05president is supposed to say
  180. 5:07how would you describe your relationship
  181. 5:09and your conversation with Governor
  182. 5:11DeSantis it's totally irrelevant but
  183. 5:13I'll answer it okay in fact it's very
  184. 5:15fine he complimented me he thanked me
  185. 5:17for the immediate response we had he
  186. 5:19told me how much he appreciated it said
  187. 5:21he was extremely happy with what's going
  188. 5:23on this is not about whether anything
  189. 5:26having to do with our disagreements
  190. 5:28politically this is about saving
  191. 5:30people's lives homes and businesses
  192. 5:32that's what this is about and so I've
  193. 5:34been I've talked to him four or five
  194. 5:37times already and it's not a matter of
  195. 5:39my disagreements with them on other
  196. 5:41items
  197. 5:43that is absolutely correct from the
  198. 5:45president and good for him he couldn't
  199. 5:46resist a little bit of jab about climate
  200. 5:48change because no one on the left can
  201. 5:49resist a jab about climate change
  202. 5:51despite the fact that once again there's
  203. 5:52no evidence that hurricanes have become
  204. 5:54either more common or more intense
  205. 5:56around Florida thanks to climate change
  206. 5:58that is not according to me that is not
  207. 5:59that is according to the head of the
  208. 6:00National oceanographic Institute for the
  209. 6:03United States the head of the hurricane
  210. 6:04center anyway here is Joe Biden
  211. 6:07our commitment to tackling the climate
  212. 6:09crisis which threatens all of us we're
  213. 6:12seeing the consequences of climate
  214. 6:13change around the world very vividly
  215. 6:16including in the United States right now
  216. 6:19and uh and I know your nation's feel it
  217. 6:22acutely and for you all it's an
  218. 6:25existential threat
  219. 6:28some members of the media can't help but
  220. 6:29go after Rhonda Sanchez the New York
  221. 6:31Times had a piece on the front page of
  222. 6:33their website going after the governor
  223. 6:34of Florida why because he voted against
  224. 6:36a boondoggle hurricane relief bill that
  225. 6:38was not a hurricane relief bill during
  226. 6:40Hurricane Sandy so the New York Times is
  227. 6:42now just trying to retcon what happened
  228. 6:43during Hurricane Sandy if you recall
  229. 6:45there was a bill that was put forward by
  230. 6:47the House and Senate Republicans that
  231. 6:48was just aid for hurricane Sandy that
  232. 6:51was voted for by all the Republicans and
  233. 6:52then there was this enormous bill that
  234. 6:54included an extraordinary amount of pork
  235. 6:56that the Democrats put forward and many
  236. 6:57Republicans voted against that so the
  237. 6:59New York Times now claims when Ron
  238. 7:00DeSantis was in Congress he voted
  239. 7:03against aid for Sandy that is not true
  240. 7:04he voted in favor of aid for Sandy he
  241. 7:06voted against a bill that included a
  242. 7:07bunch of other crap in it but the New
  243. 7:09York Times headline quote DeSantis once
  244. 7:11a no on storm Aid petitions a president
  245. 7:13he's bashed so let me just get this
  246. 7:14straight if the president of the United
  247. 7:16States is somebody that you politically
  248. 7:17oppose you're no longer allowed to
  249. 7:20access the resources available from FEMA
  250. 7:21so just to get this straight if you were
  251. 7:24a Democratic governor during Donald
  252. 7:25Trump you were not allowed to petition
  253. 7:27the federal government in fact I
  254. 7:28remember during covid every blue
  255. 7:30Governor begging the federal government
  256. 7:32for resources and the idea was that if
  257. 7:34Trump didn't give them the resources it
  258. 7:36was because it was political and bad but
  259. 7:37after census even asked for the
  260. 7:39resources according to the New York
  261. 7:40Times this means that his political and
  262. 7:42a hypocrite he's had this dumb game
  263. 7:44works for the New York Times Matt
  264. 7:45flegenheimer reporting as a freshman
  265. 7:47Congressman in 2013 Rhonda Sanchez was
  266. 7:49unambiguous a federal bailout for the
  267. 7:51New York Region after Hurricane Sandy
  268. 7:52was an irresponsible boondoggle a symbol
  269. 7:54of the put it on the credit card
  270. 7:55mentality had come to Washington to
  271. 7:56oppose he said he's I sympathize with
  272. 7:58the victims but his answer was no nearly
  273. 8:00a decade later as his State confronts
  274. 8:01the devastation and costly destruction
  275. 8:02wrought by Hurricane Ian Mr DeSantis is
  276. 8:04appealing to the nations of better
  277. 8:05angels and betting on its short memory
  278. 8:07well no he's not betting on his short
  279. 8:09memory he literally voted in favor of a
  280. 8:11certain amount of aid for Hurricane
  281. 8:12Sandy but Barack Obama and the Democrats
  282. 8:15crammed through a bill that was way more
  283. 8:18Aid that was necessary for Hurricane
  284. 8:19Sandy this is a very open debate at the
  285. 8:22time
  286. 8:22but again the goal of the New York Times
  287. 8:24here is to suggest that Ron DeSantis is
  288. 8:26suddenly a socialist the Rhonda Sanchez
  289. 8:28is suddenly a fan of big government it's
  290. 8:31the stupidest form of politics here
  291. 8:33because FEMA exists FEMA is funded FEMA
  292. 8:35was created specifically for this thing
  293. 8:37and now FEMA is bringing its resources
  294. 8:39to Bear the debate over whether the
  295. 8:41federal government should be involved in
  296. 8:43solving state level issues like this
  297. 8:46right that debate I think should be open
  298. 8:48theoretically but it has not been open
  299. 8:50on a practical level since as I said
  300. 8:51yesterday about 1895 for a very very
  301. 8:55long time in the United States there's
  302. 8:56been an understanding the federal
  303. 8:57government is going to bring its
  304. 8:58resources to Bear when there's a major
  305. 8:59natural disaster in the United States
  306. 9:00this has been true for well over a
  307. 9:02hundred years and so this notion that
  308. 9:04Ron DeSantis he's doing something
  309. 9:06unprecedented or evil or violative of
  310. 9:09his principles by as the governor of the
  311. 9:11state saying to FEMA an institution
  312. 9:12created just for this we need your help
  313. 9:15on this one is absurd it's also absurd
  314. 9:17because again they're retconning this
  315. 9:19thing because the notion that that
  316. 9:21Hurricane Sandy was was the was the
  317. 9:24breaking point for DeSantis and DeSantis
  318. 9:26didn't vote for it he did vote for Aid
  319. 9:28he just didn't vote for all of the pork
  320. 9:30in a local interview that year DeSantis
  321. 9:32said the bill contained extraneous stuff
  322. 9:34that could not be classified as
  323. 9:34emergency spending
  324. 9:36he said I never made the point of saying
  325. 9:37we shouldn't do anything he did support
  326. 9:39in favor of relief package that was like
  327. 9:4217 billion dollars for Hurricane Sandy
  328. 9:45Governor DeSantis supported an aid
  329. 9:47package in 2017. after hurricanes Harvey
  330. 9:50Irma and Maria as places like Florida
  331. 9:51Texas and Puerto Rico strains recover
  332. 9:54so again this this is a very stupid
  333. 9:57article by the New York Times but this
  334. 9:58is perfectly typical of the New York
  335. 10:00Times and the media looking for some
  336. 10:01sort of excuse to go after Governor
  337. 10:03DeSantis and of course you have Joy Reid
  338. 10:04the dumbest form of left-wing
  339. 10:07commentator on the air over on MSNBC
  340. 10:09doing the same thing
  341. 10:11Ron DeSantis had the opportunity to make
  342. 10:13that decision and say well should the
  343. 10:15people of New York and New Jersey who
  344. 10:16were hit by a catastrophic hurricane
  345. 10:18they weren't even used to they're not
  346. 10:19even in Florida they're not used to
  347. 10:20hurricanes he said no that shouldn't
  348. 10:22happen he Marco Rubio and other tea
  349. 10:24party uh members uh Senate and House
  350. 10:27said they shouldn't have that money it's
  351. 10:28too expensive and now as you said he's
  352. 10:31now got to go head in hand to Joe Biden
  353. 10:35for eight it's something he didn't even
  354. 10:37believe in as a tea party
  355. 10:40okay I'm sorry that's just a lie but
  356. 10:42they continue to lie because after all
  357. 10:43Rhonda Sanchez is a very very bad man
  358. 10:45and they have to continue to promulgate
  359. 10:46the idea that Rhonda's hands is a very
  360. 10:48very bad man again we're not going to
  361. 10:50know the extent to which the Florida
  362. 10:51government has done a good job on this
  363. 10:52hurricane until probably a week or two
  364. 10:54out but as I said at the very beginning
  365. 10:56of this the media is going to be looking
  366. 10:57for any indicator any indicator at all
  367. 10:59that Ron DeSantis isn't personally
  368. 11:00repelling from helicopters in order to
  369. 11:02save dogs in Fort Myers in order to
  370. 11:04demonstrate that he is not fit to run
  371. 11:06for the presidency in 2024 because they
  372. 11:07are scared of the governor of Florida
  373. 11:09instead of just making things up at this
  374. 11:11point well meanwhile controversy has
  375. 11:13broken out over my friend and colleague
  376. 11:15here Jordan Peterson he went on Piers
  377. 11:17Morgan's show and he was asked
  378. 11:18specifically about Olivia Wilde's brand
  379. 11:20new movie don't worry darling which is
  380. 11:22getting just excoriated by the critics
  381. 11:24which is a shocker because she is one of
  382. 11:25the protected people Olivia Wilde she's
  383. 11:27a feminist hero and it doesn't matter
  384. 11:29that that this feminist era made the
  385. 11:31actual star of that film Florence Pugh
  386. 11:33apparently extraordinarily uncomfortable
  387. 11:34on set because she was banging Florence
  388. 11:36Pugh's co-star Harry Styles none of that
  389. 11:39matters because Olivia Wilde is a
  390. 11:41feminist hero for making a movie that
  391. 11:42basically suggests that men want to put
  392. 11:44women back in the kitchen like it's the
  393. 11:451950s Etc the movie don't worry darling
  394. 11:48Apparently one of the Stars Chris Pine
  395. 11:51according to Olivia Wilde is basically
  396. 11:52playing Jordan Peterson like he's
  397. 11:54supposed to be a cult leader who's who's
  398. 11:56trying to create a a mental I don't want
  399. 11:59to give any spoilers for this dumb movie
  400. 12:01but apparently he's trying to create
  401. 12:03some sort of mental system that people
  402. 12:06live in a kind of virtual reality
  403. 12:07whereby
  404. 12:09young men can essentially train women to
  405. 12:12be put back into the kitchen and that's
  406. 12:13what Jordan Peterson wants and so she
  407. 12:15says that that character that Chris Pine
  408. 12:16cult leader character is based on Jordan
  409. 12:18Peterson so Jordan was asked about this
  410. 12:19by Piers Morgan over on Sky News and he
  411. 12:22got rather emotional about the idea that
  412. 12:24he should not be attempting to reach out
  413. 12:26and help disaffected young men here's
  414. 12:28what Jordan had to say the film director
  415. 12:30Olivia Wilde there's a new movie out
  416. 12:32which she says it's based on you this
  417. 12:33insane man this pseudo-intellectual hero
  418. 12:36to the in-cell community in cell being
  419. 12:39these weirdo loner men uh who are
  420. 12:43despicable in many ways is that you are
  421. 12:46you the intellectual hero to these
  422. 12:48people
  423. 12:50sure why not you know
  424. 12:53um
  425. 12:54people have been after me for a long
  426. 12:56time by because I've been speaking to
  427. 12:59disaffected young men you know what a
  428. 13:01terrible thing to do that is
  429. 13:10I thought the marginalized we're
  430. 13:11supposed to have a voice
  431. 13:15it's making emotional talk about it well
  432. 13:16God you know
  433. 13:18it's very difficult to understand
  434. 13:21how demoralized people are
  435. 13:23and certainly many young men are in that
  436. 13:26category and you get these casual
  437. 13:29insults these these in cells is what
  438. 13:32does it mean it's like well these men
  439. 13:34they're they don't know how to make
  440. 13:36themselves attractive to women who are
  441. 13:37very picky and good for them women like
  442. 13:39be picky that's that's your gift man
  443. 13:44demand high standards from your man fair
  444. 13:46enough but all these men who are
  445. 13:48alienated it's like
  446. 13:50they're Lonesome and and and they don't
  447. 13:53know what to do and everyone piles abuse
  448. 13:55on them
  449. 13:57to the fact that Jordan gets emotional
  450. 13:58in favor of these young men that he's
  451. 14:00attempting to give his sense of purpose
  452. 14:01this is what the media and the and the
  453. 14:03left have jumped on so there's a great
  454. 14:05hypocrisy here right the media and the
  455. 14:07left they suggest that masculinity
  456. 14:09traditional masculinity is bad because
  457. 14:10traditional masculinity doesn't allow
  458. 14:12you to show your feelings then here's
  459. 14:13Jordan Peterson a hero to a lot of young
  460. 14:15men because he stands in favor of
  461. 14:17traditional masculinity and masculine
  462. 14:18roles and he's getting openly emotional
  463. 14:20right he's tearing up while talking
  464. 14:22about these people who are disaffected
  465. 14:25so he's demonstrating to them that
  466. 14:26emotionality in public is actually not
  467. 14:28the end of the world and left is angry
  468. 14:29at him for that but this goes to a
  469. 14:31broader point that is really dangerous
  470. 14:33in American life right now and that is
  471. 14:35that a huge swath of elite opinion
  472. 14:37makers in the United States a huge swath
  473. 14:39of our media many members of the
  474. 14:42political left they have decided that
  475. 14:44there's an entirely dispensable portion
  476. 14:45of the population and this is young
  477. 14:47disaffected men and that is having a
  478. 14:49radical impact on how people live I'm
  479. 14:50not just talking about men here I'm
  480. 14:51talking about women too it turns out
  481. 14:53that women are generally not in favor of
  482. 14:55androgynous feminized men they do not
  483. 14:57like it these statistics on female
  484. 14:59happiness over the course of the last
  485. 15:00half century have not demonstrated
  486. 15:02increased female happiness with the
  487. 15:04androgynization of gender
  488. 15:06they have now created extraordinary
  489. 15:08levels of female happiness with later
  490. 15:10marriage and less child bearing and
  491. 15:11rearing
  492. 15:12it's not good for women it's
  493. 15:13particularly not good for men the stats
  494. 15:15on men right now are devastating in the
  495. 15:16United States David Brooks has a piece
  496. 15:18today in the New York Times titled the
  497. 15:20crisis of men and boys
  498. 15:21he says if you've been paying attention
  499. 15:23to the social trends you probably have
  500. 15:24some inkling that boys and men's are
  501. 15:25struggling in the United States and
  502. 15:27across the globe they're struggling in
  503. 15:28the classroom American girls are 14
  504. 15:30percentage points more likely to be
  505. 15:31school ready than boys at age five
  506. 15:32controlling for Parental characteristics
  507. 15:34by High School two-thirds of the
  508. 15:36students in the top 10 percent of the
  509. 15:37class ranked by GPR girls roughly
  510. 15:39two-thirds of the students at the lowest
  511. 15:40decile are boys in 2020 at the 16 top
  512. 15:44American law schools not a single one of
  513. 15:45the flagship law reviews had a man as
  514. 15:47editor-in-chief men are struggling in
  515. 15:49the workplace one in three American men
  516. 15:50with only a high school diploma 10
  517. 15:52million men is now out of the labor
  518. 15:53force the biggest drop in employment is
  519. 15:55among young men aged 25 to 34. men who
  520. 15:57entered the workforce in 1983 will earn
  521. 15:59about 10 less in real terms in their
  522. 16:01lifetimes than those who started one
  523. 16:02generation earlier over the same period
  524. 16:04women's lifetime earnings have increased
  525. 16:0633 percent pretty much all of the income
  526. 16:08gains middle class American families
  527. 16:09have enjoyed since 1970 are because of
  528. 16:11increases in women's women's earnings
  529. 16:13now all of that would be perfectly well
  530. 16:15and good if the net happiness here were
  531. 16:17up it is not
  532. 16:19men are also struggling physically men
  533. 16:21account for close to three out of every
  534. 16:22four deaths of Despair suicide and Drug
  535. 16:23overdoses for every 100 middle-aged
  536. 16:25women who die of covid up to Mid to
  537. 16:27mid-september 2021 they're 184
  538. 16:29middle-aged men who died
  539. 16:32Richard Reeves new book of boys and men
  540. 16:34is a landmark one of the most important
  541. 16:35books of the year not only because it's
  542. 16:37a comprehensive look at male at the male
  543. 16:38crisis but also because it searches for
  544. 16:40the roots of that crisis and offers
  545. 16:42Solutions
  546. 16:43policies and programs designed to
  547. 16:45promote social Mobility often work for
  548. 16:46women but not men Reeves a scholar at
  549. 16:48the Brookings institution that's a
  550. 16:49liberal Think Tank
  551. 16:51visited Kalamazoo Michigan where thanks
  552. 16:53to a donor high school graduates get to
  553. 16:54go to colleges in the state for free the
  554. 16:57program increased the number of women
  555. 16:58getting college degrees by 45 percent
  556. 16:59the men's graduation rates remain flat
  557. 17:01Reeves lists a whole series of programs
  558. 17:03from early childhood education to
  559. 17:04college support efforts that produced
  560. 17:06impressive games for women but did not
  561. 17:07boost men
  562. 17:09there are many reasons men are
  563. 17:11struggling according to David Brooks for
  564. 17:13example the decline in manufacturing
  565. 17:14jobs that put a high value on physical
  566. 17:15strength the rise of service sector jobs
  567. 17:17but I was struck by the theme of
  568. 17:19demoralization that was through the book
  569. 17:20Reeves talked to men in Kalamazoo about
  570. 17:22why women were leaping ahead they said
  571. 17:24women are more motivated work harder
  572. 17:25plan ahead better but this isn't a
  573. 17:26matter of individual responsibility
  574. 17:28there's something in modern culture that
  575. 17:29is producing an aspiration Gap many men
  576. 17:31just seem less ambitious more men are
  577. 17:34leading haphazard and lonely lives
  578. 17:36roughly 15 percent of men have no close
  579. 17:38friends up from three percent in 1990.
  580. 17:39one in five fathers doesn't live with
  581. 17:41his children in 2014 more young men were
  582. 17:43living with their parents than with a
  583. 17:44wife or partner apparently even many who
  584. 17:46are married are not ideal mates wives
  585. 17:48are twice wiser now twice as likely to
  586. 17:50initiate divorces as their husband
  587. 17:54so David Brooks says ambition doesn't
  588. 17:55just happen it has to be fired the
  589. 17:57culture is still searching for a modern
  590. 17:58masculine ideal it is not instilling in
  591. 18:00many boys the nurturing and emotional
  592. 18:01skills that are so desperately important
  593. 18:02today A system that labels more than a
  594. 18:04fifth of all boys developmentally
  595. 18:05disabled is not instilling in them a
  596. 18:07sense of confidence and competence
  597. 18:08masculinity has gone haywire and then of
  598. 18:10course he has the obligatory because
  599. 18:11he's David Brooks rip on Republicans
  600. 18:13referring to pseudo-motro cartoons like
  601. 18:15Donald Trump and Josh Howley doesn't
  602. 18:16help what I was completely unaware that
  603. 18:20the Alternatives here were the complete
  604. 18:21feminization of men
  605. 18:23and Donald Trump like I love that he's
  606. 18:27unwilling to acknowledge the obvious
  607. 18:28what has happened here is the sexual
  608. 18:30revolution has castrated men in in terms
  609. 18:33of their ambition in terms of their
  610. 18:34Mobility
  611. 18:35that is what the sexual Revolution did
  612. 18:37and it did not make women happier
  613. 18:39that is the Dirty Little Secret here the
  614. 18:41second wave third wave feminist movement
  615. 18:43did not make women happier and it made
  616. 18:44men a lot unhappy unhappier
  617. 18:47and and what we are seeing here is the
  618. 18:48impact of that David Brooks is afraid to
  619. 18:50say it because if you say that sort of
  620. 18:52thing people get very angry at you you
  621. 18:53violated the rules now I'm not making
  622. 18:56the case that women shouldn't be in the
  623. 18:57workplace that they shouldn't be able to
  624. 18:58get the jobs that they want I'm making
  625. 19:00the case the traditional social roles
  626. 19:01traditional gender roles absolutely
  627. 19:03matter
  628. 19:04again I will say my wife's as a perfect
  629. 19:06example of this my wife is a doctor
  630. 19:08she's a primary care physician
  631. 19:10I took care of the kids while she was in
  632. 19:11medical school
  633. 19:13I remember at seven o'clock every night
  634. 19:14I would drive our two very young
  635. 19:16children at the time my daughter was all
  636. 19:18about two and a half years old that my
  637. 19:19son was a newborn and I would drive them
  638. 19:22to the hospital where she was in
  639. 19:23residency so she could see them for like
  640. 19:2525 minutes while she ate her dinner and
  641. 19:27then she would head back inside to The
  642. 19:28Residency program so I'm very much in
  643. 19:30favor of the idea that women should be
  644. 19:31able to work the jobs they want to work
  645. 19:32also life is a balance and my wife does
  646. 19:34that beautifully my wife took off time
  647. 19:36to take care of both of our kids when
  648. 19:38they were babies and now because she has
  649. 19:40the ability to she wants to work
  650. 19:41part-time so she can spend more time
  651. 19:43with the kids
  652. 19:44this is not a rare coincidence this is
  653. 19:47this is kind of the ideal life as women
  654. 19:48seek to live it but the feminist
  655. 19:50movement has told women that all that is
  656. 19:52very bad having a husband is bad it's a
  657. 19:54sign that you are weak as a woman having
  658. 19:56children is really bad the height of
  659. 19:58being a woman is to have an abortion
  660. 20:00I'm not just saying that understand I'm
  661. 20:03talking about the height of female
  662. 20:04aspiration according to many members of
  663. 20:05the left is abortion for example the
  664. 20:07women's March literally yesterday
  665. 20:08tweeted out this is a direct quote quote
  666. 20:11we are not just pro-choice we are
  667. 20:13proudly unapologetically pro-abortion
  668. 20:16hey there's a difference there they're
  669. 20:18not even saying women should be able to
  670. 20:19make the decisions whatever you think of
  671. 20:21the pro-life versus pro-choice position
  672. 20:22they're not even saying that they're
  673. 20:23saying abortion is an absolute good
  674. 20:25women are doing something better for
  675. 20:26themselves if they decide not to engage
  676. 20:28in these roles and there's nothing new
  677. 20:30I mean that was something that was said
  678. 20:31by Simone's wife going all the way back
  679. 20:33to like the 1960s talking about the idea
  680. 20:36that women should be prohibited from
  681. 20:37childbearing and child's rearing because
  682. 20:38too many women if allowed to make that
  683. 20:40decision would make that decision and
  684. 20:42that would re-instill all of these
  685. 20:44social roles and values that actually
  686. 20:45make life worth living and make life
  687. 20:46quite beautiful
  688. 20:47in order to achieve complete equality
  689. 20:49and flattening what you really need to
  690. 20:50do is prevent women from getting
  691. 20:52involved in marriage getting involved in
  692. 20:54having kids what you have to do is
  693. 20:55deprive men of their social role and
  694. 20:56deprive women of their social role and
  695. 20:58turn everybody into an interchangeable
  696. 21:00widget this has dramatic effects the
  697. 21:02most obvious effects are on men wait
  698. 21:03tomorrow on this in just one second
  699. 21:04first let's talk about the fact that
  700. 21:06people are feeling increasingly unsafe
  701. 21:07these days not just because of political
  702. 21:09polarization but also because crime
  703. 21:11rates are actually up pretty
  704. 21:12significantly in a lot of major urban
  705. 21:13areas around the United States but here
  706. 21:15is the thing owning a gun under the
  707. 21:18Second Amendment is not enough you have
  708. 21:19to know how to use it and you have to

  774. 23:16has been extraordinarily bad now there
  775. 23:18are a lot of men out there who took
  776. 23:19advantage of the sexual Revolution it
  777. 23:20turns out that sexual Liberation really
  778. 23:22good for horny men
  779. 23:23the availability of people to have sex
  780. 23:26with who are not married to skyrocketed
  781. 23:28so for guys who wanted to have sex with
  782. 23:29lots and lots of Partners which is many
  783. 23:31many men
  784. 23:32this was just a a boon it was wonderful
  785. 23:35for them but it also robbed men of their
  786. 23:37soul because the entire idea of
  787. 23:39traditional masculinity is that men have
  788. 23:41aggressive instincts
  789. 23:42men have aggressive physical
  790. 23:45sexual work instincts men are more
  791. 23:48aggressive they have testosterone this
  792. 23:49is evolutionary biology this is not
  793. 23:51stereotyping it's true among primates
  794. 23:53it's trolling human beings
  795. 23:54and because of that we have evolved as a
  796. 23:57species many institutions that are
  797. 23:58designed to channel that traditional
  798. 24:00masculine aggressive energy toward good
  799. 24:02purposes
  800. 24:03for for defending Hearth and Home I said
  801. 24:06this about the military got ripped
  802. 24:07earlier this week well it's perfectly
  803. 24:09obvious that this is the case that
  804. 24:11military service for example was a
  805. 24:13traditionally male Pursuit and that was
  806. 24:15not a bad thing because men are the ones
  807. 24:17who are going to charge Hills and kill
  808. 24:18each other on behalf of Hearth and Home
  809. 24:20as a general rule throughout human
  810. 24:22history there are exceptions because
  811. 24:23every rule has exceptions but that does
  812. 24:24not mean the rule does not exist so we
  813. 24:26created all of these institutions
  814. 24:27ranging from military service to
  815. 24:31fatherhood and the man staying in the
  816. 24:33home and monogamy and taking care of the
  817. 24:36kids and we gave men roles
  818. 24:38that did not mean that we were supposed
  819. 24:40to let men get away with toxic
  820. 24:41masculinity toxic masculinity would be
  821. 24:43you know actual violence against women
  822. 24:45or being promiscuous or abandoning your
  823. 24:47children we see a lot more toxic
  824. 24:48masculinity by the way in the aftermath
  825. 24:49of the sexual Revolution than we saw
  826. 24:51before because I consider it toxic
  827. 24:52masculinity to knock up a woman and then
  828. 24:54leave your child and abandon them that's
  829. 24:55like the worst thing that you can do to
  830. 24:57a woman and to the child and we see a
  831. 24:58lot of that these days
  832. 25:00and we're told that that is Liberation
  833. 25:02it's not Liberation for the woman
  834. 25:04who's now taking care of the kid by
  835. 25:05herself and ain't Liberation for the
  836. 25:06child who doesn't have a father and it's
  837. 25:08not Liberation for the man either
  838. 25:09because it turns out that all it does is
  839. 25:11it frees him to be a perennial
  840. 25:12adolescent who is unhappy and useless
  841. 25:15what Jordan Peterson says is the same
  842. 25:17thing that I say the burdens that you
  843. 25:19take on in life the obligations you take
  844. 25:22on in life with regard to roles and
  845. 25:25family and children these are what
  846. 25:27liberate you they are what give you
  847. 25:28fulfillment
  848. 25:30we are a Liberation centered society in
  849. 25:33which the only thing that matters is
  850. 25:34your interior feeling at any given point
  851. 25:36in time fulfillment does not come from
  852. 25:38that interior sense of happiness at any
  853. 25:41given point in time the man who eats
  854. 25:42tons of ice cream and dies at age 35 of
  855. 25:44a heart attack because of morbid obesity
  856. 25:46did not live a happy life even though
  857. 25:48every time he ate the ice cream he felt
  858. 25:49really good about himself
  859. 25:51we have oh
  860. 25:52human beings have always understood for
  861. 25:54literally all the time that there is a
  862. 25:55difference between the immediate Joy of
  863. 25:57doing a thing that brings you happiness
  864. 25:59and the lifelong Joy of taking on
  865. 26:01obligations that are very difficult and
  866. 26:03they make your life worse in many ways
  867. 26:04but in the end maker life a hell of a
  868. 26:06lot better
  869. 26:07that's what it's like to be married
  870. 26:08that's what it's like to have kids
  871. 26:10you give up something and what you get
  872. 26:12in return is something far greater and
  873. 26:13then we blew up those institutions in
  874. 26:15the name of this liberal utopian ideal
  875. 26:18of atomistic individualism in which the
  876. 26:20sexual identity that you take on is the
  877. 26:23most important thing in life
  878. 26:24that is the only thing that matters in
  879. 26:26life and again the results have been
  880. 26:28dire they've been disastrous for Western
  881. 26:30Civilization as a whole
  882. 26:32Nicholas eberstadt has a good book out
  883. 26:34called men without work
  884. 26:36he works at American Enterprise
  885. 26:37Institute and that book is based on an
  886. 26:39essay he wrote in January of 2018
  887. 26:41talking about how American men are
  888. 26:43simply falling apart
  889. 26:45he says the catastrophe is the collapse
  890. 26:47of work for men in the half century
  891. 26:49between 1965 and 2015.
  892. 26:51work rates for the American male
  893. 26:52spiraled relentlessly downward an
  894. 26:54ominous migration commenced a flight
  895. 26:56from work
  896. 26:57in whichever greater numbers of working
  897. 26:59age men exited the labor force
  898. 27:00altogether America is now home to an
  899. 27:02ever-growing army of jobless men no
  900. 27:04longer even looking for work over 7
  901. 27:06million between ages 25 and 55 the
  902. 27:08traditional Prime of working life now
  903. 27:10there are some people who are blaming
  904. 27:11offshoring of jobs to China right to see
  905. 27:13easy convenience convenient excuse but
  906. 27:15the reality is we have far more open
  907. 27:16jobs in this country than we have people
  908. 27:18who are willing to seek those open jobs
  909. 27:19that was that's been true for years in
  910. 27:22the United States the labor force
  911. 27:23participation rate in this country is in
  912. 27:25the mid 60s we're talking for working
  913. 27:26age people in the United States
  914. 27:29we have literally millions and millions
  915. 27:31maybe tens of millions of men are on
  916. 27:33disability who are not in fact disabled
  917. 27:36we have tons of men who are on
  918. 27:37unemployment who don't need to be on
  919. 27:39unemployment how big is our men without
  920. 27:41work problem today consider a single
  921. 27:42fact in 2015 the work rate for American
  922. 27:44males aged 25 to 54 was slightly lower
  923. 27:47than it had been in 1940 at the tail end
  924. 27:49of the Great Depression
  925. 27:50hey we're talking when the overall
  926. 27:52unemployment rate in 1940 was like 11 in
  927. 27:55the United States now in 2015 you have
  928. 27:58an overall unemployment rate of like
  929. 27:59five percent
  930. 28:00and you still have a work rate that is
  931. 28:03lower for men than in 1940. according to
  932. 28:06the latest official jobs report data
  933. 28:08available in 2018 the work rate for
  934. 28:10prime age men in November 2017 was still
  935. 28:11below the 1940 level
  936. 28:14the progressive Detachment of Evernote
  937. 28:15larger numbers of adult men from the
  938. 28:17reality and routines of regular paid
  939. 28:18labor poses a self-evident threat to our
  940. 28:20nation's future prosperity and can only
  941. 28:22result in lower living standards greater
  942. 28:24economic disparities and slower economic
  943. 28:26growth than we might otherwise expect
  944. 28:27the troubles posed by the mail flight
  945. 28:29from work says Nikki burstat are by no
  946. 28:31means solely economic it's also a social
  947. 28:32crisis and a moral crisis the growing
  948. 28:34capability of grown men to function as
  949. 28:36Breadwinners cannot help but undermine
  950. 28:37the American Family by the way you know
  951. 28:39what creates the capacity for men to to
  952. 28:41act as Breadwinners marriage
  953. 28:44family obligations
  954. 28:46people who lean on you
  955. 28:49and so the idea of radical Independence
  956. 28:51where people don't lean on each other I
  957. 28:52lean on my wife she leans on me that is
  958. 28:55the nature of the marriage
  959. 28:57in Hebrew
  960. 28:58the the word for Love Is ahava
  961. 29:02right the the root of that word is have
  962. 29:03which means to give the root of Love is
  963. 29:05giving
  964. 29:06and one thing that you can give your
  965. 29:08spouse is your vulnerability one thing
  966. 29:10that you can give your spouse is a sense
  967. 29:11that you need your spouse the notion
  968. 29:13that spouses are people who actually
  969. 29:15don't need each other they just sort of
  970. 29:16get together for a contractual
  971. 29:17Arrangement it's not true it has never
  972. 29:19been true and modern society once you do
  973. 29:21that then actually you get far less out
  974. 29:23of a marriage than you are putting into
  975. 29:24the marriage there's no reason to get
  976. 29:26married at all you're basically
  977. 29:28roommates who have sex with one another
  978. 29:30that's not a basis on which to build a
  979. 29:32happy life
  980. 29:33among those who should be most capable
  981. 29:35of shouldering burdens of Civic
  982. 29:36responsibilities all of this says Nikki
  983. 29:38bersatt encourages sloth idolness and
  984. 29:40vices perhaps more Insidious whether we
  985. 29:41choose to recognize it or not this
  986. 29:43feature of the American condition the
  987. 29:44new men without work normal is
  988. 29:45inimicable inimical to our tradition it
  989. 29:47is subversive of our national ethos
  990. 29:49arguably even our civilization you want
  991. 29:50to know why you have seen vast increases
  992. 29:52in pornography use among young men in
  993. 29:54the United States It Is Not Mere
  994. 29:55availability it is also because they are
  995. 29:57not involved in institutions like family
  996. 29:59like church that actually give them
  997. 30:02something to do you want to know why men
  998. 30:04are increasingly abusing drugs this
  999. 30:06would be the reason you want to know why
1000. 30:07suicide suicidal ideation is up among
1001. 30:09men this would be the reason going all
1002. 30:11the way back to Emil durkheim there's
  1003. 30:12been a widespread sociological
  1004. 30:14understanding that societal institutions
1005. 30:16hem in and provide a rationale for
1006. 30:18existence when you blow up all of those
1007. 30:20roles which is what the sexual
  1008. 30:21Revolution was about it wasn't about
  1009. 30:23establishing anything good or new it's
1010. 30:24about the idea you have to blow up all
1011. 30:26these things because all roles and rules
1012. 30:28are inhibitions that are placed upon
1013. 30:30your true self but what if your true
1014. 30:32self that aimless formless chaos sexual
1015. 30:34impulse what if that doesn't make you
  1016. 30:35happy
1017. 30:36and what if a society that pushes that
1018. 30:38is not geared toward human happiness
1019. 30:40what if it's offering you the sugar high
1020. 30:41but then you die of morbid obesity at
  1021. 30:44age 35 because that's exactly what's
1022. 30:45going on in our society right now and
1023. 30:47you can see it pretty much everywhere
1024. 30:49you can see it in the way that that
1025. 30:51companies now market and so for example
1026. 30:54Virgin Airlines put out an ad talking
1027. 30:56about how they are the queerest Airline
1028. 30:58this is the thing they're very very
1029. 30:59proud of because your identity is in
1030. 31:02apparently the clothes that you wear
1031. 31:04your sexual activity your gender
1032. 31:06identity it is it is not in
1033. 31:09actually like a social role and and
1034. 31:12reinstilling that social world because
1035. 31:14remember there are children on these
1036. 31:15flights are now going to be asking mommy
1037. 31:17and daddy why it is that men are wearing
1038. 31:18women's clothing and pretending to be
1039. 31:19women no it's all about the idea that
1040. 31:22you all human beings are basically fully
1041. 31:24formed adults who are allowed to and
1042. 31:28should act as children with regards to
1043. 31:30their sexual impulse that is the thing
1044. 31:32that matters most of all the world is
1045. 31:34supposed to reflect you social roles are
1046. 31:35an inhibition the world is supposed to
1047. 31:37reflect your innermost identity and
1048. 31:38that's the case over at Virgin Airlines
  1049. 31:41[Music]
1050. 31:44says your identity your choice because
1051. 31:47they're now allowing all of the members
1052. 31:49of their um of their staff to dress in
  1053. 31:51whatever they want
1054. 31:54and so now you've got women who are
1055. 31:55dressing as men and men who are dressing
  1056. 31:57as women
1057. 31:58our new uniform of college has Virgin
  1058. 32:00Airlines
1059. 32:04Virgin Atlantic see the world oh well
1060. 32:06isn't that great and then you have a man
1061. 32:07who is dressed in women's clothing at
  1062. 32:09the end of that
1063. 32:11again when you completely obliterate the
1064. 32:12distinction between the Sexes you lose
1065. 32:14the rationale for there being different
1066. 32:16Sexes you lose the social institutions
1067. 32:18that have evolved over the course of
1068. 32:20literally hundreds of thousands of years
1069. 32:22when you have the Planned Parenthood
1070. 32:24director of trans care out there saying
  1071. 32:25in a well-accepted viewpoint on the left
1072. 32:27now that men get pregnant
  1073. 32:30if there's no distinction between men
1074. 32:31and women then what exactly is the role
1075. 32:32of men and what exactly is the role of
1076. 32:34women and why should men take on
  1077. 32:35additional obligation
  1078. 32:37here's the here's the testimony of
  1079. 32:39planned parenthood's director of
  1080. 32:41transcare Dr bhavik Kumar
1081. 32:44Dr Kumar can biological men become
  1082. 32:47pregnant and give birth
1083. 32:50so men can have pregnancies especially
  1084. 32:53trans men
1085. 32:54uh okay so the question was can a
1086. 32:56biological man give birth and the uh and
1087. 32:58the noted doctor here just ignores the
1088. 33:01question entirely and pretends that men
1089. 33:02can have babies and give birth
1090. 33:05roles matter rules matter because these
1091. 33:09are things that give us purpose in life
1092. 33:10a man on a desert island by himself has
1093. 33:13no rules has no rules he is also going
1094. 33:15to be a deeply unhappy human being
1095. 33:17without those roles without any sort of
1096. 33:20purpose or meaning people fall apart and
1097. 33:22this is why what we're seeing now is an
1098. 33:24upswing a sort of return to the idea
1099. 33:26that maybe some more traditional forms
1100. 33:28of for example courtship might be a good
1101. 33:30thing we'll get to that in just one
1102. 33:31second first folks finding the perfect
  1103. 33:33t-shirt it's a rough experience

1148. 34:55good alright so I'm going to speak to a
  1149. 34:57segment of my audience I've never

1152. 35:02but in some ways We're Not So Different
  1153. 35:04you and I we're both unfairly portrayed
1154. 35:06by the media and they're both among the
1155. 35:07men most hated by woke Razer companies
1156. 35:09and leftist ideologies which is
1157. 35:11unfortunate when you consider that frats
1158. 35:13raised millions of bucks every year for
1159. 35:14charity one Virginia Tech frat alone
  1160. 35:16raised 255 000 for Saint Jude's
1161. 35:18Children's Hospital last year so with
  1162. 35:20that influence in mind I thought I'd
1163. 35:21share an idea I had you know Jeremy
1164. 35:23Razer is a contest to win the car you

1181. 35:54woke free frat in America terms and
1182. 35:56conditions do apply so and it turns out
1183. 35:59that blowing up rolls isn't always the
1184. 36:01most wonderful thing for Humanity the
1185. 36:04media have been attempting to sort of
1186. 36:05bury the lead in this particular story
  1187. 36:07but apparently the US Army's first
  1188. 36:09transgender officer and his wife a
1189. 36:11Maryland doctor were indicted on
  1190. 36:13conspiracy charges Wednesday for
  1191. 36:14allegedly attempting to transfer
  1192. 36:15confidential military medical
1193. 36:17information Russia the eight count
1194. 36:19indictment was unsealed Thursday upon
1195. 36:20the arrest of the defendants major Jamie
1196. 36:22Lee Henry an anesthesiologist Anna
  1197. 36:24gabriellin according to a Department of
1198. 36:26Justice press release the Army granted
1199. 36:27Henry's request to officially change his
1200. 36:29name in accordance with his gender
  1201. 36:30preference in 2015 prior to Henry's case
1202. 36:32identifying as a sex different than the
  1203. 36:34one-on-one's birth certificate made a
1204. 36:36soldier unfit for military service
  1205. 36:37warranting discharge gabriellian worked
1206. 36:40at the Johns Hopkins school of medicine
1207. 36:41referred to as Medical Institution one
1208. 36:42in the indictment located in Baltimore
1209. 36:44Maryland Henry who is also a doctor
1210. 36:46worked as a staff internist Station at
1211. 36:48Fort Bragg a pair are accused of
1212. 36:49stealing patient health files from Johns
1213. 36:51Hopkins in Fort Bragg and giving them to
1214. 36:52an individual they believed to be
1215. 36:54working for the Russian government so so
1216. 36:57much historicness happening in the US
1217. 36:59Army that is just that that is excellent
1218. 37:01stuff okay so here's the thing as we
1219. 37:02blow up all of these traditional gender
1220. 37:04roles as we blow all this up and as
1221. 37:05people become more unhappy as men drop
1222. 37:07out of the workforce lose their purpose
  1223. 37:08as women
  1224. 37:09become essentially working widgets
1225. 37:13they become the inputs for capitalist
1226. 37:16growth without actually fulfilling many
1227. 37:18of the things that drive women in life
1228. 37:20and they were lied to by the feminist
1229. 37:21movement by the way they're told they
1230. 37:22could have it all it turns out you
1231. 37:23cannot because the one thing on on
1232. 37:24planet Earth that is finite is time you
1233. 37:27can always make more resources you can
1234. 37:28always make more money you cannot make
1235. 37:30more time so you actually have to
1236. 37:31balance your life well it turns out
1237. 37:33people are really unhappy and so there's
  1238. 37:34now a newfound embrace you can't call it
  1239. 37:37this you can't say that it's Traditional
  1240. 37:39judeo-christian Values you can't say
1241. 37:40that because it alienates too many
  1242. 37:41people
1243. 37:42but there is a newfound Embrace of that
1244. 37:44happening because again those values are
1245. 37:47rooted in institutions that have been
1246. 37:49involved over the course of hundreds of
1247. 37:51thousands of years to be good for human
  1248. 37:52beings
1249. 37:53really good essay today by a person
1250. 37:55named Michael Lebowitz an editorial
1251. 37:57assistant over at the New York Times
1252. 37:58op-ed section called dating is broken
1253. 38:00going retro could fix it quote among the
  1254. 38:02traditional rights of an All-American
1255. 38:03high school experience is the taking and
1256. 38:05judging of yearbook photos and in this
1257. 38:06my all girls Orthodox Jewish school is
1258. 38:08no exception our dialogue is we swap
1259. 38:09Prince was more Fiddler on the Roof than
1260. 38:11Sweet Valley High are you going to use
1261. 38:12that for your resume is
1262. 38:15um how people basically date in the
1263. 38:16Orthodox Jewish community so you put
1264. 38:18together an actual resume with a picture
1265. 38:20on it and you submit it to What's called
1266. 38:21the Shotokan which is like a third party
1267. 38:23person who then thinks of all the people
1268. 38:24they know who are your Asian they fix
1269. 38:25them up because they're fixing you up
1270. 38:27not to have sex with one another they're
1271. 38:28fixing you up for the possibility of
1272. 38:30shared values marriage and children in
1273. 38:32other words dating with a purpose it
1274. 38:34turns out that doing everything with a
1275. 38:35purpose is significantly better for
1276. 38:36human fulfillment than doing things
1277. 38:37without a purpose all of Western life
1278. 38:39seems to be predicated now on the
1279. 38:41opposite purpose hems you in no purpose
1280. 38:44makes you free no purpose also makes you
  1281. 38:46depressants suicidal is a general rule
1282. 38:48it was a joke mostly but many of my
1283. 38:50peers she says would go on to make the
1284. 38:51dating profiles favored by orthodox
1285. 38:52matchmakers most wouldn't do so for more
1286. 38:54than a few years by then our 17 year old
1287. 38:56acne studied punim would be poor
1288. 38:58likenesses but the joke reflected
1289. 38:59something that was true even as high
1290. 39:01schoolers many of us knew how we plan to
1291. 39:02meet our spouses and it wasn't going to
  1292. 39:04be the loosey-goosey way the secular
1293. 39:05world did it well there's also something
1294. 39:07else there in Orthodox Jewish High
1295. 39:08School you think about getting married
  1296. 39:10you're 17 you're already thinking about
1297. 39:11marriage when you go to an Orthodox
1298. 39:13Church High School it's true in Catholic
1299. 39:14high schools as well this is true in in
  1300. 39:16religious Protestant high schools
1301. 39:17basically religious is true in madrasas
1302. 39:19religious institutions in the United
1303. 39:21States by the time you hit close to
1304. 39:23marriageable age which is 18 and up
1305. 39:26you're already thinking about marriage
  1306. 39:27which means that you're already thinking
1307. 39:29about the values not just the looks but
1308. 39:31the values of the person who you want to
1309. 39:32be with and this means that you are
  1310. 39:34already channeling your life toward a
1311. 39:36particular purpose you know the highest
1312. 39:37purpose that we were put on God's green
1313. 39:39earth to do which is to have children
  1314. 39:41and raise them correctly
1315. 39:44says this columnist Michael Leibowitz
1316. 39:47it's been odd the past several years
1317. 39:49watching the ways the secular mainstream
1318. 39:50has latched tentatively fadishly onto
  1319. 39:53traditional dating practices there's the
1320. 39:54slew of matchmaking companies sorting
1321. 39:56out the lovelikes of the Rich and Famous
1322. 39:57the article is declaring matchmaking is
1323. 39:59hot again the Netflix Carousel filled
1324. 40:01with shows casting back to an older if
1325. 40:02partly imagined vision of romance Indian
1326. 40:04matchmaking Married at First Sight
  1327. 40:05Bridgerton a reacquaintance with more
1328. 40:07traditional forms of meeting and falling
1329. 40:08in love makes me hopeful I see signs of
1330. 40:10a culture grasping for things it rightly
  1331. 40:12needs in today's largely online World
1332. 40:13burnout opacity and callousness to find
  1333. 40:15dating reflecting the values of a
  1334. 40:17society that prizes individualism
1335. 40:18privacy and choice in nearly all things
1336. 40:20including matters of the heart while
1337. 40:22dating is more convenient than it has
1338. 40:23ever been people find dates while
1339. 40:24sitting on the toilet it is clearly
1340. 40:26falling short there are elements of
1341. 40:28traditional dating culture that can
1342. 40:29provide Solutions not just to the way we
1343. 40:30find people to date but also to the way
  1344. 40:32we navigate relationships now here's the
1345. 40:33thing what traditional dating does
  1346. 40:35because you're literally asking yourself
1347. 40:37is this a person I wish to have children
  1348. 40:38with
1349. 40:40because of that this actually
1350. 40:42incentivizes men to be better when it
1351. 40:45turns out the dating is just about the
1352. 40:46sexual pleasure to be obtained from a
1353. 40:48new partner at any given point the most
1354. 40:50attractive of both sexes will tend to do
1355. 40:52the best obviously when it comes to
1356. 40:54marriage now you can actually better
  1357. 40:55yourself in certain ways it's funny I
1358. 40:57was watching a uh Bill Burr comedy
  1359. 40:59special last night
1360. 41:01and he was talking about how women tear
1361. 41:04each other down how they how women are
1362. 41:06very nasty to each other privately and
1363. 41:08then they will say to somebody that
  1364. 41:09they'll say that they're fat positive
1365. 41:11they're body positive but meanwhile but
1366. 41:12behind their back they'll talk about how
1367. 41:13uh she just looks terrible I would never
1368. 41:15look like that but what what Bill Burr
1369. 41:17says he says women look at models very
1370. 41:19often like you know that's setting up
1371. 41:21unrealistic expectations for men and he
1372. 41:24says yeah like every time I look at Brad
1373. 41:26Pitt on screen he takes off his shirt
1374. 41:28I'm not like man they're setting up
  1375. 41:29unrealistic expectations for me he's
  1376. 41:31like I know I'm overweight I'm bald I'm
1377. 41:33orange and so I had to get really good
1378. 41:35at comedy in order to get checks
1379. 41:37hey this is actually the way put aside
1380. 41:40the kind of comedic job description
1381. 41:41there this is the way that men typically
1382. 41:44have better themselves to make yourself
1383. 41:45more attractive to the opposite sex this
  1384. 41:47means get an education
1385. 41:49get a job demonstrate that you are
1386. 41:51responsible do the things that would
1387. 41:53demonstrate that you are capable and and
  1388. 41:54worthy of having children with a
1389. 41:56particular one by the way exactly what
1390. 41:57Jordan Peterson says he says women
1391. 41:59should be picky in fact one of the
1392. 42:00bigger problems right now is that women
1393. 42:01are not particularly particularly picky
1394. 42:04about the men that they date because
  1395. 42:05they're not dating from errors they're
  1396. 42:06not dating for kids
1397. 42:08so what does that mean it means no one
1398. 42:10is actually dating with an eye toward
1399. 42:11upping their their social value as an
  1400. 42:14aspect of getting married
1401. 42:15as an aspect of having kids purpose is
1402. 42:18not part of the equation
1403. 42:20this columnist for the New York Times
1404. 42:21Hollywood says it's worth asking is it
1405. 42:23time to court again in October 2019 Pew
  1406. 42:25conducted a survey to understand
  1407. 42:26Americans attitudes toward romantic
1408. 42:28relationships most haters told Pew that
  1409. 42:30romantic lives weren't going well three
1410. 42:31quarters of respondents said it was
1411. 42:32difficult to find people to date when
1412. 42:34asked why finding a date was so
1413. 42:35difficult reasons varied by gender women
1414. 42:37tended to say it's challenging to find
1415. 42:38someone who meets their expectations or
1416. 42:40is looking for the same type of
1417. 42:41relationship men mostly said they have
  1418. 42:42trouble approaching people these
  1419. 42:44complaints that seem counter-intuitive
1420. 42:45internet dating promises an abundance of
1421. 42:48choice to meet any standard a profusion
1422. 42:49of filters to suit any relationship low
1423. 42:51barriers to reaching out to relieve any
  1424. 42:53anxiety
1425. 42:54but now as I found when I talk to people
1426. 42:56about what it's like to date the
1427. 42:58theoretical abundance of options filters
  1428. 43:00low barriers to engagement doesn't
1429. 43:01translate to high quality interactions
1430. 43:03instead daters find themselves caught in
1431. 43:05a cycle of unanswered messages and
  1432. 43:06dead-end interactions contributing to
1433. 43:08ubiquitous feeling of dating app burnout
1434. 43:11again this is because men and women are
1435. 43:14typically looking for different things
1436. 43:15when they are dating unless you have
1437. 43:16institutions that incentivize men to
1438. 43:17look for the correct things when they
  1439. 43:19are dating
1440. 43:21yes that institution of marriage it
1441. 43:22turns out that the general societal
1442. 43:24standard that applied for most of human
1443. 43:26history which was you are supposed to
1444. 43:29you're supposed to put off your sex life
1445. 43:31until you get married that this was a
1446. 43:33really good disincentive to men simply
  1447. 43:36looking to get laid
1448. 43:38that they were actually going to have to
1449. 43:39sacrifice at something and demonstrate
  1450. 43:41that they were worthwhile
  1451. 43:43it's an amazing thing
1452. 43:45wood says one of the ironies of modern
1453. 43:47dating is that while it's not uncommon
1454. 43:48to date for months or even years without
1455. 43:50broaching the big questions about
1456. 43:51marriage and children other forms of
1457. 43:52intimacy tend to be embraced more
1458. 43:54quickly almost all Americans have sex
  1459. 43:55before getting married that's been true
1460. 43:56for decades but the normalization of
1461. 43:58casual sex is newer it's not clear newer
1462. 44:00Norms around having sex casually or very
1463. 44:01soon after meeting are really helping
1464. 44:03those who ultimately want last and
  1465. 44:04committed relationships I remember
1466. 44:05noting this while watching friends back
1467. 44:07in the 1990s in the religious community
  1468. 44:09here's how it goes
1469. 44:10you fall in love you get married
1470. 44:13you have sex right that is the order of
1471. 44:15events in traditional communities fall
  1472. 44:18in love get married
1473. 44:19have sex and in the most traditional
1474. 44:21Community sometimes it is get married
1475. 44:22fall in love have sex right like
  1476. 44:24sometimes that but
1477. 44:26sex is the the last thing you do
1478. 44:28in the modern Community the way that it
  1479. 44:30works is have sex
1480. 44:32maybe fall in love and maybe maybe you
  1481. 44:35may get married so you'll have you'll
1482. 44:36have the most intimate relationship that
1483. 44:38you can have with a person and then
1484. 44:39you'll be like man I'm really nervous
1485. 44:40about saying I love you you wonder why
1486. 44:42things are failing you wonder why women
1487. 44:43are unhappy and men are purposeless I
  1488. 44:45can't imagine why I can't imagine why
1489. 44:47the sexual revolution has crippled men
1490. 44:49and women it has made men and women both
1491. 44:51unhappier so no matter how pissed the
1492. 44:53left is of Jordan Peterson the reason
1493. 44:55they're really pissed at Jordan Peterson
  1494. 44:56is he's reminding them of a simple fact
1495. 44:58he's social standards that they have
  1496. 45:00said was the bargain right you're
1497. 45:02supposed to blow up all these
  1498. 45:03institutions you're supposed to
  1499. 45:04completely reshape society around a
1500. 45:07promise Jordan is noting that the cost
1501. 45:09of that promise is really high and it's
  1502. 45:11not just it's a quote unquote in cells
1503. 45:13it's to everyone and that's why people
1504. 45:14are pissed at Jordan why people are
1505. 45:16angry at Jordan that's why people are
1506. 45:17angry at me for saying stuff like this
1507. 45:18but reality always wins reality always
1508. 45:21wins and the utopian stupidity of
