Why Do These Rings Have The Same Volume? 🤯 — Transcript
Full transcript
- 0:00If you drill a hole through a marble,
- 0:02and then through a sphere the size of
- 0:04Earth, which of these two would contain
- 0:06more material? It would be this one,
- 0:08right? Well, if both leftover rings are
- 0:11the same height, then they have the same
- 0:14volume. But the Earth ring spreads out
- 0:16for miles, but it's shaved down
- 0:19incredibly thin. The marble ring barely
- 0:22spreads out at all, but it stays much
- 0:24chunkier. So, the huge one wins in
- 0:27width, the tiny one wins in thickness.
- 0:30And the math cancels out perfectly,
- 0:32meaning a marble-sized ring and a
- 0:34planet-sized ring can hold the same
- 0:36volume as long as they're both the same
- 0:39height.
