Why Do Some People Just Look So Good? — Transcript
Full transcript
- 0:00This looks average. This [music] looks
- 0:01pretty good, but this is great. What's
- 0:03the difference? Why do some people just
- 0:05[music] look so good? I used to think it
- 0:07was genetics, height, money, maybe your
- 0:10style. If that were the case, why does
- 0:11this guy look so much better than this
- 0:13guy? This guy looks so much better than
- 0:14this guy, and this guy looks so much
- 0:16better than this guy. You see, there are
- 0:17secrets to looking [music] good, and
- 0:19this video will break it down. Let's get
- 0:21into it.
- 0:23Face is not as important as facial
- 0:25expression. Sure, we'd all like to be
- 0:27good-looking. We'd all like to look like
- 0:29Brad Pitt, Timothée Chalamet, and all
- 0:30the good-looking people. That would be
- 0:32nice. But, what actually makes you look
- 0:34good is your facial expression. One of
- 0:37the best things you can do is actually
- 0:39become comfortable with expressing
- 0:41yourself via your facial expressions and
- 0:44to have a big variety. And when you show
- 0:46facial expressions that are relaxed,
- 0:48that are of concern, of anger, of joy,
- 0:52and you do it in a natural way, this is
- 0:54how you look good because it shows that
- 0:56you're unafraid of judgments of other
- 0:58people. And when you can do that, this
- 1:00is very, very attractive, and this is
- 1:01why guys will look charismatic. Now, of
- 1:04course, it's not just about how you
- 1:05carry your face, which brings us on to
- 1:08the next point. How you carry your body.
- 1:11Not a lot [music] of people pay
- 1:11attention to this, but if you want to
- 1:13look good, if you want to have that
- 1:14charisma, if you want to command
- 1:16attention, and have people respect you,
- 1:18so much of it is [music] nonverbal. It's
- 1:20not what you say, it's how you're
- 1:22standing and how you're sitting. Let's
- 1:24talk about standing. When it comes to
- 1:25looking good in terms of posture, it
- 1:28really comes down to the shoulders and
- 1:30the hips. These are the parts of the
- 1:32body that can maneuver an entire person.
- 1:34And this is why in martial arts you
- 1:36focus on the hips and the shoulders to
- 1:38throw people. The shoulders and the
- 1:40hips, if you have them completely level,
- 1:42they will look kind of awkward, stiff,
- 1:45and unconfident, and unnatural. But, if
- 1:47you have it slanted with the shoulders
- 1:49and hips, instead of it being level,
- 1:51they are slightly slanted like this,
- 1:53this will give you a much more natural,
- 1:55flowy look. And so, let me demonstrate
- 1:57that. Let's say you're standing just
- 1:59like this, okay? Like these product
- 2:01photos on these websites for clothes.
- 2:03You're there, your shoulders are level,
- 2:04your hips are level, you're just like
- 2:06boom. It doesn't There's no character.
- 2:08There's It doesn't look as good. So,
- 2:10what you want to do is you want to slant
- 2:12your hips. Maybe you stand with a little
- 2:14bit more weight in one leg. So, this hip
- 2:15might go up, this hip might go down a
- 2:17little bit. And you're just leaning,
- 2:18you're kind of resting. And it's not
- 2:20just about what everyone talks about,
- 2:21which is open shoulders, retracted neck,
- 2:24open up your upper chest, your upper
- 2:26back so that you look confident [music]
- 2:27and you know, you have these gestures.
- 2:29Everybody talks about this, but I've
- 2:30never seen it broken down in terms of
- 2:32hips and shoulders. It's going to just
- 2:34look more natural and bring lines and
- 2:36curvature and silhouette to your body,
- 2:38which is minor. But with the confident
- 2:41facial expression and with the slanted
- 2:43body posture that comes from the
- 2:44shoulders and the hips, you can already
- 2:46have that little bit more aura that's
- 2:48going to make you look good. Next. Now,
- 2:50that would be enough if all you did was
- 2:52take photos on Instagram, which is
- 2:54pretty much 90% of the world right now.
- 2:56But if you actually want to look good in
- 2:57real life, it also matters how you move
- 3:00and how you walk. If you walk really
- 3:03awkward or really, really shy, it's just
- 3:05not going to look that good or
- 3:06charismatic. You can have all kinds of
- 3:08walks that will look good for all kinds
- 3:10of different people. So, I don't want to
- 3:11give you one kind of formula. If you
- 3:13look at certain characters in anime like
- 3:16L in Death Note or one of these things
- 3:18that I saw recently on a reel [music]
- 3:20where two guys are walking, they have
- 3:21two completely different posture, but
- 3:23they both kind of look good. So, there's
- 3:25no perfect walk, but it does matter how
- 3:28you move when it comes to looking good.
- 3:30It's how you carry [music] yourself,
- 3:31your body, your clothes. And you want to
- 3:34generally move in a carefree, nonchalant
- 3:37way that also looks a little bit like
- 3:40you're occupied or unoccupied. Either
- 3:43you have the walk where it looks like
- 3:44you're too busy trying to get somewhere
- 3:46because you got more important things to
- 3:47do. This is is a good a way to look good
- 3:50because it looks like you're are person
- 3:52that has other things to do. And another
- 3:54thing is to look unoccupied, like
- 3:56nothing is really bothering you. You're
- 3:57nonchalant, you're chill, you're relaxed
- 4:00because you've got stuff taken care of.
- 4:02Those are probably the two ways in which
- 4:04you want to walk instead of a lot of
- 4:06walks that are super anxious and awkward
- 4:09and caved in, a little bit worried about
- 4:11what people are going to say, you know,
- 4:13or just uh
- 4:16I know this is a little bit of an
- 4:17exaggeration,
- 4:19but you want to have more relaxedness in
- 4:21your body, again in your hips and your
- 4:23shoulders, and try to walk in a way
- 4:25that's going to be either unoccupied,
- 4:27just really chill, kind of slow, a
- 4:29little bit slower than the average Joe.
- 4:30Or you're kind of busy, you got you're
- 4:32thinking about something and you're just
- 4:34going somewhere. People that do ballet,
- 4:36people that perform on stage, people
- 4:38that walk on the runway, they actually
- 4:40get taught how to walk. They actually
- 4:43get taught how to stand, how to open up
- 4:46their posture, and that's why they look
- 4:47good. They even, actors for instance,
- 4:49and models will do facial exercises
- 4:53to loosen up their facial muscles so
- 4:55that they can do various facial
- 4:56expressions, which can be charismatic
- 4:58[music] as well. So, all of these people
- 5:00that you might look at and be like,
- 5:01"Wow, they look so good. Why do they
- 5:03look so good?" Well, because they
- 5:05practice this a lot. They look in the
- 5:07mirror, they're practicing facial
- 5:08expressions as they do the lines if
- 5:10they're actors. A lot of models will do
- 5:12this, posing practices, how to walk. So,
- 5:15don't be thinking, "Oh my god, this, you
- 5:16know, you either have it or you don't,
- 5:18and these guys are so cool, and I don't
- 5:20look as good because they're just born
- 5:22with it." It's not like that. A lot of
- 5:23the time they practice the hell out of
- 5:25it, so don't be afraid to do that
- 5:26yourself. Next, this is all good and
- 5:28well if you never meet any human being,
- 5:31but eventually as you live life, you're
- 5:32going to meet people. The moment you
- 5:34open your mouth, your voice is super
- 5:36weak, it fizzles out at the end of a
- 5:38sentence, you cannot project your voice,
- 5:40everybody has to be like, "So, what was
- 5:42that? What was that?" every time you
- 5:43speak, you just don't even enunciate
- 5:46your words properly.
- 5:48It's never going to look good if you do
- 5:49that. When it's coming out of your
- 5:52mouth, the words, it's got to have some
- 5:54kind of power, some kind of force behind
- 5:57it, like you mean it. And when you're
- 5:58able to speak in this way, people will
- 6:01think, "Damn, he looks good."
- 6:02>> Something just came across my desk,
- 6:04John. It is perhaps the best thing I've
- 6:07seen in the last 6 months.
- 6:08>> Because you're in the zone talking about
- 6:10something that you're passionate about,
- 6:12you look good and people think your
- 6:14clothes look good. That's the secret.
- 6:16That's what happens when you actually
- 6:18know how to project your voice and when
- 6:19you actually speak your mind in a proper
- 6:21way. So, what does that mean? Just going
- 6:23to give you a few tips. For most people,
- 6:25just practice speaking a little bit
- 6:28louder than you normally would. It's
- 6:30going to feel awkward at first, but
- 6:31you're going to get used to it and then
- 6:33you go a little bit over the top and
- 6:34then you tone it down. That just means
- 6:35you'll be able to project more. And for
- 6:37those who want to project their voice a
- 6:38little bit more, they always talk about
- 6:40not speaking from your throat, like
- 6:42speaking from here, but speaking so it
- 6:44resonates inside of your chest and even
- 6:46in your
- 6:47>> [music]
- 6:47>> belly. So, your belly could be a little
- 6:49bit tense as you speak, like they do in
- 6:52the military where they say,
- 6:59Your ability to project your voice, have
- 7:01volume. This is actually what's going to
- 7:03make you look good. Next, most people
- 7:05are actually afraid to express emotions
- 7:08in [music]
- 7:09situations where they aren't fully
- 7:11comfortable. What does that mean? If
- 7:12you're able to express emotions, then
- 7:15immediately it signals that you are
- 7:17comfortable. And when you're comfortable
- 7:18in situations where normally people are
- 7:20not comfortable, what does that show? It
- 7:22shows that you're confident. That's why
- 7:24it looks good. You look confident when
- 7:27you [music] display emotions in your
- 7:29speech. Now, this doesn't mean start
- 7:31swearing and going on road rage and
- 7:33start screaming at random people and all
- 7:35of these kinds of antisocial behavior.
- 7:37This is not what I'm talking about, but
- 7:39when you speak, is add a little bit of
- 7:41emotion to it, like your approval or
- 7:43your disapproval. Let's say your friend
- 7:45made you dinner and you ate it and
- 7:47you're like, "Oh, it's good." Like
- 7:48actually showing emotion. [music] When
- 7:50you have a pasta that has too many
- 7:51ingredients, actually just being like,
- 7:53"Come on, like what?" Showing emotion.
- 7:55This is going to make your verbal
- 7:57communication so much more interesting
- 7:59and that's going to make you look good
- 8:00as well. Next, now you can have the
- 8:02tonality, you can have the projection,
- 8:04you can have the emotion in your speech,
- 8:05but the content of what you're speaking
- 8:07about, if it's just completely boring,
- 8:09does nothing [music] worse than that. I
- 8:10remember going in to some seminars when
- 8:12I was in university and thinking
- 8:14somebody looked really good or really
- 8:16nice and wanted to hang with them and
- 8:18then the moment they opened their mouth,
- 8:20you'd be like, "Oh my god, it's just so
- 8:21boring. There's nothing there. There's
- 8:23nothing inside of that head." And it
- 8:25just turns you off. You'll never look
- 8:26good if you sound super unintelligent.
- 8:29This doesn't mean that you have to be
- 8:31book smart, but what you really need is
- 8:33an attitude and an outlook on life. A
- 8:35lot of people, especially when you're
- 8:37younger, this is very normal, you just
- 8:38adopt different attitudes that different
- 8:40people have told you or that you've seen
- 8:42and you think looks cool, but it's not
- 8:44really your own. So, what do you have to
- 8:46do to actually have an attitude and an
- 8:48outlook on life? You got to go live,
- 8:50gather experiences, maybe get your heart
- 8:52broken, maybe try different things,
- 8:53fail, succeed, and go through a lot of
- 8:56these repeated experiences to gather
- 8:59what you can call a certain kind of life
- 9:01philosophy. And when that comes out in
- 9:03the way that you stand, in the way that
- 9:04you walk, in your facial expressions, in
- 9:06what you say, in the tonality with which
- 9:08you speak, there [music] is full
- 9:09congruence. That's when you look
- 9:11charismatic. That's when you get the X
- 9:13factor. That's the source. That's why
- 9:14people say, "This guy looks good. This
- 9:16guy looks tryhard." I hope you enjoyed
