  7. 0:22lefty well let me handle that by
  8. 0:25answering a question why are some of us
  9. 0:29left-handed zoom
  10. 0:31in today around 10% of the world's
  11. 0:35population is Left-Handed also called
  12. 0:40sinistrality which means you favor using
  13. 0:43your left hand rather than your right
  14. 0:46hand for everyday activities such as
  15. 0:49writing lifting and at times even for
  16. 0:52eating and unfortunately in many
  17. 0:56cultures children are still forced not
  18. 0:59to use their left hand as it's
  19. 1:01considered wrong or
  20. 1:04taboo maybe it has something to do with
  21. 1:08the language used for both hands as
  22. 1:11right is associated with being correct
  23. 1:13or true while left in Old English means
  24. 1:18weak and in Latin
  25. 1:20Sinister not only that even everyday
  26. 1:24tools such as scissors zippers openers
  27. 1:28video game control rollers Etc are
  28. 1:31designed to favor the righties and our
  29. 1:35leftand fellows really have to struggle
  30. 1:38to adjust in this rightand
  31. 1:41world but the handy question is why are
  32. 1:45they left-handed in the first place well
  33. 1:49the answer to this question is still a
  34. 1:51big mystery in the scientific Community
  35. 1:55as we don't have the right answer but
  36. 1:58only a few theories
  37. 2:00yes and the well accepted theories state
  38. 2:04that it has something to do with
  39. 2:09genetics Studies have shown that
  40. 2:12left-handedness is more common in
  41. 2:14families with a history of
  42. 2:18left-handedness if both of your parents
  43. 2:21are right-handed you have a 10% chance
  44. 2:24of being left-handed and if you have a
  45. 2:28right-handed father and a left-handed
  46. 2:30mother then there are 177% chance of you
  47. 2:35being left-handed if it is the other way
  48. 2:38around then the number goes up to
  49. 2:4122% and in case both the parents are
  50. 2:45left-handed then there is a 25% chance
  51. 2:49of
  52. 2:50it but then the vital question is how
  53. 2:54did our forefathers become
  54. 2:56left-handed well to know this let us
  55. 2:59travel back in time when our ancestors
  56. 3:02fought using heavy stones and Logs with
  57. 3:05their right hands but eventually a few
  58. 3:08of them trained to use the other hand to
  59. 3:11get a Competitive Edge and took the
  60. 3:14opposition by surprise and many experts
  61. 3:17believe that this favorable left-handed
  62. 3:21Advantage may have been passed down to
  63. 3:24some people over the
  64. 3:26years even today we may see this
  65. 3:29phenomenal doing wonders in combat and
  66. 3:32competitive sports like boxing and
  67. 3:35baseball where left-handers known as
  68. 3:38southpaws can shock opponents with their
  69. 3:42unfamiliar moves but again why not a lot
  70. 3:46of us use the left hand well according
  71. 3:50to some experts it's due to the social
  72. 3:53Cooperative activity of tool
  73. 3:56sharing yes as we discussed ear
  74. 4:00many of the vital tools that we use
  75. 4:03every day are designed for right-handed
  76. 4:06people and because left-handers are not
  77. 4:10comfortable handling these tools and
  78. 4:12often suffer from accidents they would
  79. 4:15be less successful in a socially
  80. 4:17Cooperative society and slowly vanish
  81. 4:21out of existence keeping their numbers
  82. 4:24at a minimum to maintain a healthy
  83. 4:26balance of competition and cooperation
  84. 4:30[Music]
  85. 4:31but we still don't know the exact answer
  86. 4:35however what we know is that some of the
  87. 4:38greatest people to ever walk on earth
  88. 4:41were and are left-handed and who knows
