  1. 0:00What have you learned about yourself
  2. 0:03from writing this most recent book?
  3. 0:10>> [snorts]
  4. 0:14>> The work needs doing.
  5. 0:16It's just like there's no way around it.
  6. 0:18Like it just has to be confronted.
  7. 0:21And I think it just like it just comes
  8. 0:22down to that. Is you just have to
  9. 0:24confront the work. And a lot of people
  10. 0:26put a lot of extra things between them
  11. 0:29and the work that they try and
  12. 0:31romanticize, they try and create
  13. 0:32superstitions around it, they have all
  14. 0:34these fancy rain dances that they do,
  15. 0:37but like at the end of the day, the work
  16. 0:39doesn't care who you are.
  17. 0:41It just cares that it gets done.
  18. 0:43And I think in some way that's one of
  19. 0:45the great equalizers about product. Is
  20. 0:48that like
  21. 0:49in a lot of ways
  22. 0:52and this will probably be triggering to
  23. 0:53some people, but like
  24. 0:55it doesn't matter who you are.
  25. 0:57Like in a in a fitness example
  26. 1:00500 pounds is 500 pounds. It doesn't
  27. 1:02care who you are.
  28. 1:04Like anyone like Arthur can pull the
  29. 1:06sword from the stone if you're strong
  30. 1:07enough, right? And so like there's a
  31. 1:10level of work that has to get put in to
  32. 1:12learn how to run ads. Level of work that
  33. 1:14has to get put in to learn how to
  34. 1:16to do cold calls. A level of work that
  35. 1:18has to get put in to learn how to be
  36. 1:20patient when someone's angry with you,
  37. 1:22right? Or how to run a team or how to
  38. 1:23stick your projects in Asana or whatever
  39. 1:26it is, right? Um
  40. 1:28and it doesn't matter whether you're
  41. 1:29old, you're young, you're male, you're
  42. 1:30female, you're black, white, Asian,
  43. 1:32whatever, right? It just needs doing.
  44. 1:34And I think that a lot of people waste a
  45. 1:36lot of time
  46. 1:38not starting.
  47. 1:40And so I I've told this analogy before,
  48. 1:42we've probably heard it, but I'll say it
  49. 1:43for your audience.
  50. 1:44Um
  51. 1:45there's a study, there's probably a lot
  52. 1:47of studies been done on this, but you
  53. 1:48can become proficient in any skill in
  54. 1:49about 20 hours. So, playing the piano,
  55. 1:52you know, riding a bike, whatever it is.
  56. 1:5420 hours of concentrated effort gets you
  57. 1:56proficient. It's the largest gain in
  58. 1:58skill improvement. It's 20 hours of
  59. 1:59concentrated effort.
  60. 2:01The problem is is that people will wait
  61. 2:03a decade to start the first hour.
  62. 2:06And so you'd be amazed at how much
  63. 2:07progress you can make if you cut down
  64. 2:09the time between when you
  65. 2:11acknowledge the work and when you start
  66. 2:12doing the work. And I think that over
  67. 2:14time in my career what has happened is
  68. 2:16just that my
  69. 2:17my delay between when I realize I need
  70. 2:19to do something and when I start doing
  71. 2:21it has just shrunk.
  72. 2:23So that I can get to the gain in
  73. 2:24proficiency that much faster. And then
  74. 2:26if you think about that over 10 years,
  75. 2:28right? Where one guy does nothing and
  76. 2:29then he starts and another guy does 20
  77. 2:31hours and 20 hours and 20 hours and 20
  78. 2:33hours and 20 hours and 20 hours, by the
  79. 2:35end of that decade, they're not even
  80. 2:36recognizable. They're not even the same
  81. 2:37They're not even the same stratosphere.
  82. 2:39>> Yeah.
  83. 2:40>> Real quick, I'm going to show you the
  84. 2:41exact 10-stage roadmap from zero to 100
  85. 2:43million plus that less than 1% of
  86. 2:46companies finish I've now done multiple
  87. 2:48times. And so I can say with a lot of
  88. 2:49confidence that these are the stages as
  89. 2:51head count increases that you need to
  90. 2:53get through. And I broke each of these
  91. 2:55down by eight different functions of the
  92. 2:57business, what the constraint feels
  93. 2:58like, like what are the symptoms of it
  94. 3:00when you're going through it, and then
  95. 3:01what steps we actually took to graduate.
  96. 3:03And we've done this across software,
  97. 3:05physical products, uh service
  98. 3:07businesses, brick-and-mortar, all of
  99. 3:08this and it works. And it's my gift to
  100. 3:11you. It's absolutely free. And so the
  101. 3:12link's in the description, but you just
  102. 3:13go acquisition.com/roadmap.
  103. 3:15Just enter your info and it'll spit it
  104. 3:16right back to you, all free.
