Why 30 Days Is Enough? — Transcript

- 0:0030 days is enough to change your life
- 0:02completely.
- 0:03>> [music]
- 0:04>> Let's say you're sitting in a lecture
- 0:05hall
- 0:07surrounded by other people doing exactly
- 0:09[music] what you're doing.
- 0:10Some smarter.
- 0:13Some,
- 0:14well,
- 0:16not as smart.
- 0:18And you?
- 0:20Let's say you're in the middle of the
- 0:21pack.
- 0:23So, what's the one unfair advantage that
- 0:25could take you from being average all
- 0:27the way to the very top in just 30 days?
- 0:31It's called the Feynman technique.
- 0:34And it's the most effective way to
- 0:35figure out exactly what's holding you
- 0:37back.
- 0:39>> [clears throat]
- 0:40>> Take whatever you're trying to get
- 0:41better at
- 0:42and pretend like you're teaching it
- 0:44to a class.
- 0:48No jargon, no notes,
- 0:51just explain it as simply as you can.
- 0:53Because the second you try to explain
- 0:55something to an imaginary class,
- 0:57you find out very quickly what you do
- 0:58understand
- 1:00and what you don't understand.
- 1:06What was that line again?
- 1:12Oh, yeah.
- 1:13A 2024 analysis of 39 studies found that
- 1:16people who learn something knowing
- 1:17they'd have to teach it later actually
- 1:19learned it better themselves [music]
- 1:21because teaching forces you to do
- 1:23something that most people don't do,
- 1:25figure out exactly what you know and
- 1:27what you don't know.
- 1:30Here's why this gives you an unfair
- 1:32advantage.
- 1:33Most people spend their time practicing
- 1:34the things they already understand
- 1:37because it feels like they're getting
- 1:39better.
- 1:40But when you try to teach something,
- 1:42you immediately discover what you don't
- 1:45understand.
- 1:46>> [music]
- 1:46>> That's the difference. And you can do
- 1:48this with almost anything. If you're
- 1:50building a business,
- 1:51>> [music]
- 1:51>> teach someone what makes a good product.
- 1:54If you're working out, explain why
- 1:55you're doing every exercise [music] in
- 1:57your routine. And if you want better
- 1:59social skills, explain exactly what
- 2:01makes someone good at a conversation.
- 2:04And the second your explanation becomes
- 2:06uh
- 2:12um
- 2:14you know what you need to work on. So
- 2:15while everyone else is just
- 2:17>> [music]
- 2:17>> repeating what they know,
- 2:22you're systematically finding out what
- 2:23you don't know.
