- 0:00We've gathered all the latest clip style
- 0:02earbuds for you and we've thoroughly
- 0:04tested each and every one so you don't
- 0:06have to. There are three prize
- 0:09categories and one winner in each.
- 0:11Enjoy. Namaste. We're DHRME
- 0:14distinguished headphone reviews for
- 0:15maximum enjoyment. So, water clip style
- 0:18earbuds in 20 seconds. Rowan, go. So,
- 0:22these are basically clips that clip onto
- 0:24your anti-helical fold. And what that
- 0:26does is it just places a speaker close
- 0:29to your ear and pumps sound in. So they
- 0:31also have a very definitive look much
- 0:34like earrings or clip-on earrings. And
- 0:38one thing to keep in mind is that these
- 0:39are never going to sound as good as
- 0:41overear or inear headphones because the
- 0:44whole point is to be aware of your
- 0:45surroundings. Exactly. All right. But
- 0:48let's go on to the first category which
- 0:50is the budget category. $30 to $60. Now,
- 0:53before we get into each of these buds
- 0:55here, this is how we're going to do it.
- 0:57We're going to give you a concise
- 0:58summary to not waste your time, but
- 1:00there will also be stuff on screen which
- 1:03you know are just facts. So, you don't
- 1:04have to say that out loud and you save
- 1:07some time, but feel free to pause and
- 1:09read those if you want to. Yeah. And if
- 1:10you want to know more about each of
- 1:12these buds in depth, we've done full
- 1:13videos on those link down below. So,
- 1:15knock yourself out. All right. The QCY
- 1:18Cross Sky C30 retails for between like
- 1:21$30 to $40, and we were really
- 1:24pleasantly surprised with these. It's
- 1:26the cheapest on this list, but they
- 1:27sound pretty decent. Especially nice
- 1:29that you get multipoint connectivity and
- 1:31an app with options like a game mode.
- 1:33The touch controls, they work well,
- 1:35although you've got to be careful with
- 1:37clothing touching the buds or just back
- 1:39of a neck and causing ghost stabs. The
- 1:41calls are not the best on this list
- 1:43though, and those shiny design elements,
- 1:46it they can be an acquired taste for
- 1:48some. Next up, the Sound Piece Pop Clip
- 1:50at $40. We really dig the design on
- 1:52these. The buds are left and right
- 1:55interchangeable. They've got
- 1:56customizable button controls, and we
- 1:58love button controls. We are files.
- 2:02Check out the new merch down below. And
- 2:04they're comfortable, too. They're
- 2:06definitely not the way to go if you need
- 2:07them for phone calls, but you do get an
- 2:10app and multipoint connectivity.
- 2:12Soundwise, definitely not the best for
- 2:14sound. Don't worry, we have more coming
- 2:16up. Like the Jab Flex Open at $50. These
- 2:20stay in place during workouts, no
- 2:22issues. You do get multipoint, and even
- 2:24though the touch controls take some
- 2:26getting used to, they really work well.
- 2:28There is a raised logo which acts as the
- 2:30touch surface, and these are fully
- 2:32customizable, which is a smart
- 2:34implementation. Yeah, you get single,
- 2:36double, triple taps, long taps. As he
- 2:39said, fully customizable. And that
- 2:41customization includes volume controls.
- 2:44They're also very solid for calls. But
- 2:46for one of us, me, they were a bit
- 2:49uncomfortable with the jagged plastic
- 2:51scratching my ears. U overall, a very
- 2:54solid pair though, unless you're looking
- 2:55at tweaking sound a lot. That's where
- 2:58the Moonrop pill at about $60 comes in.
- 3:01They have tons of options for sound in
- 3:02the Moonrop app, including a parametric
- 3:04EQ and a kind of marketplace of EQs,
- 3:07which no one else is really doing. It's
- 3:09a very audio file idea of sound with the
- 3:12mids and highs sounding quite nice, but
- 3:15the bass being toned down. We think
- 3:17these sound way better inside rather
- 3:20than on the go, which kind of defeats
- 3:22the purpose of this form factor, to me
- 3:24at least. The pill-shaped case is very
- 3:26whimsical and fun, but not very
- 3:29pocketable. But we did find that it
- 3:31opened up too easily inside a bag and
- 3:33that was annoying. The call performance
- 3:35however is nothing to write home about.
- 3:37And although they do have multipoint,
- 3:39the touch controls again are often
- 3:41wrongly triggered by just turning your
- 3:43head.
- 3:45All right, the Edifier R1 at $60. At
- 3:48this price, we were shocked at how much
- 3:50Edifier managed to include in this
- 3:52model. And that too for their first take
- 3:54on clip style buds. Yeah, impressive.
- 3:56Besides these things on screen, you get
- 3:58a wear sensor, multipoint, and a game
- 4:00mode. We will say that these are not the
- 4:03most premium looking. They're quite
- 4:05bulky and the sound and phone call
- 4:07performance are not quite the best. Then
- 4:10the Tozo open earring at $60.
- 4:13At this price point, Tozo is bringing
- 4:16quite a few things to the table, and you
- 4:18can often find them for much lower than
- 4:20that price, too. You see the battery
- 4:22life on the case which is a cool
- 4:23implementation and these have solid
- 4:25battery life too. The call performance
- 4:27is decent and the comfort is middle of
- 4:29the road but you're missing multipoint
- 4:31which for us is very important and the
- 4:34touch controls again are not the best.
- 4:36There someone say controls soundpiece
- 4:38pole clip pro get you all the same
- 4:41features of the pop clip for $60 but now
- 4:44you get touch controls so no buttons and
- 4:47that's where we're disappointed with
- 4:49these. The touch part is the piece
- 4:51that's in your ear and it's not very
- 4:53accurate. A lot of missteps. The battery
- 4:55life is not as strong and we faced some
- 4:57connection issues. The calls were good
- 4:59for the price, especially in noisy
- 5:01conditions, and the sound was a mixed
- 5:02bag again. A ton of bass and volume, but
- 5:05the mids and highs don't sound very
- 5:07refined. So, which one do you pick,
- 5:09Kevin, in the budget category? In this
- 5:11budget category, I'm going to go with
- 5:13the Jab Flex Open. I just really like
- 5:17that the controls are reliable and the
- 5:19calls are really important to me. So,
- 5:20the call quality was on point as well.
- 5:23Speaking of point, there is multi-point
- 5:25support on those buds. And for me,
- 5:27multi-deviceing my life, I need that.
- 5:30The comfort on the other hand didn't
- 5:32bother me. It did bother you. So, I'm
- 5:34curious, what would your pick be? Yeah,
- 5:35I'm I'm finding it really hard to pick
- 5:37one in this range, but I'll go for the
- 5:40Sound Peach Pop Clip purely because
- 5:44buttons on in daily use around the
- 5:47house. Super convenient, super easy to
- 5:48use. Not the best at calls, but I have
- 5:52to make some compromises at this price
- 5:54point. Fair enough. Next up, the
- 5:56mid-rangers. $60 to $150.
- 6:00We start with the Basis Bowie MC1 at
- 6:02$70. Kind of shame. It's almost budget
- 6:05but not quite. But Basis has been in the
- 6:07shadows for us until we reviewed their
- 6:09hook style buds, the Eli Sport 1. And
- 6:12those as well as these clip styles do
- 6:15not disappoint. On the Bowie MC1, you're
- 6:18getting comfortable clips that stay in
- 6:19place as well as reliable button
- 6:22controls that are fully customizable in
- 6:24the app. You get some bells and whistles
- 6:26like multi-point, low latency game mode,
- 6:28and reverse waves to reduce noise
- 6:31leakage, which actually seem to do a
- 6:33good job. In terms of sound, they sound
- 6:35pretty decent. Um, again, not bass
- 6:38monsters, but you can actually enjoy
- 6:40music casually on them. For phone calls,
- 6:42these are definitely on the higher end.
- 6:44They're great in quiet and noisy
- 6:47environments. All right, the next is the
- 6:49Soundcore C40i at $120.
- 6:52getting into the big money category now.
- 6:54Yeah, but there's more. There's even
- 6:56more expensive ones. All right, but what
- 6:58an improvement Soundcore has made since
- 7:00the previous model, the C30i. That one
- 7:03wasn't wasn't that great. No. So, the
- 7:05C40i, they've now added configurable
- 7:08button controls and made the clips
- 7:10flexible, but unfortunately still not
- 7:11the most comfortable on the ear or the
- 7:14eyes. They bulky. Yeah, you still get
- 7:16multi-point and an amp, and there's no
- 7:19wear sensor. Uh, and the sound can sound
- 7:21good under certain conditions. The calls
- 7:24outdoors are not great, so beware of
- 7:26that, too. Considering the price, there
- 7:28are better options like the Edifier
- 7:32lolly clip at $130. Being new in the
- 7:35whole clip style space, Edifier didn't
- 7:36hesitate to experiment with the lolly
- 7:38clip. Besides all the goodies like a
- 7:40wear sensor, game mode, multipoint, and
- 7:42an app, Edifier decided to support LDAC
- 7:45for high-res audio, active noise
- 7:47cancelling, and a heart rate monitor as
- 7:50well as an SPO2 monitor. Crazy, right?
- 7:52They just went all out. Now, all of
- 7:54those features are nothing to write home
- 7:56about, but it's nice to see Edifier
- 7:59thinking out of the box. Although the
- 8:01touch controls are responsive, you're
- 8:03stuck to a limited control scheme. The
- 8:05buds are comfortable, but you do notice
- 8:07them on or in your ear. And these buds
- 8:10really shine in windy conditions for
- 8:12phone calls. The bass response is rich
- 8:14and they get quite loud. You get a lot,
- 8:17which is expected at these price points,
- 8:19right? So, what's our pick in this
- 8:21mid-range category? No doubt. No doubt.
- 8:24I think we probably wrongly put it in
- 8:25mid-range. It's It's just above $60, but
- 8:29the Basis Bowie MC1 buttons, you know,
- 8:33cheapest in this range. And good
- 8:35comfort, good controls. Yeah, a decent
- 8:38mic performance. Exactly. I maybe lost
- 8:40out a little bit in wind, but I'm not in
- 8:42the wind that often. So, no. Hey, we
- 8:45agree on this one in this category.
- 8:48What about the next category? Because
- 8:49now we're in the final one, and that's
- 8:51the premium category. $150 to $250.
- 8:56Yeah, we're talking big bucks. And we're
- 8:58going to start with Soundcore's latest
- 9:00offering, the Aero Clip. At $170
- 9:04after the C30i and the C40i, you can
- 9:06really tell that Soundcore has had the
- 9:08time to refine their designs. The Aero
- 9:10Clips are really comfortable and they
- 9:12look a lot sleeker. The battery life is
- 9:14truly incredible, and you're still
- 9:16getting everything you've come to expect
- 9:17from their clip style buds so far.
- 9:19Multi-point, an app, and customizable
- 9:21touch controls. The control scheme is
- 9:23like a bit restrictive. Uh though only
- 9:26with a double and triple tap. In terms
- 9:28of sound, they sound really nice. I
- 9:30think they're very like kind of rounded.
- 9:32Um you do hear the bass and overall I
- 9:35can listen to music on these in a quiet
- 9:36environment. No problem. And the phone
- 9:39call performance, it delivers in all
- 9:42conditions. It's able to hold its own.
- 9:44Not an easy feat. So well done
- 9:46Soundcore. It's a shame that the volume
- 9:48controls don't work on calls though. And
- 9:50then the latest on this list, the shocks
- 9:52open dots one. They come with soft
- 9:54materials. No scratching the ears here.
- 9:57There are touch controls on the bridge
- 9:58as well as on the back the barrel piece
- 10:00that you get, but there are no physical
- 10:02buttons, unfortunately. There's even a
- 10:04wear sensor to automatically pause your
- 10:05audio if you take them off. Yeah, it's
- 10:08not something you see very often on
- 10:09these sorts of buds. And the left and
- 10:11right earbuds are also interchangeable.
- 10:14Now, these sound pretty good. They're
- 10:16more like warmer sounding and bass
- 10:18focused. and it did quite well even with
- 10:20very busy music. So, it's pretty nice.
- 10:23Just don't expect too much from that
- 10:25Dolby audio feature. All right, then the
- 10:27Huawei Free Clip at 200 bucks. For us,
- 10:30the Huawei Free Clip are objectively
- 10:32some of the best buds on this list
- 10:34because they've been tested so heavily.
- 10:36So, basically, I've daily driven this
- 10:38for like a year or more. Uh they're
- 10:41pocketable, they're comfortable, goat
- 10:43level calls, nice design, solid battery
- 10:47life. And what's not to love? Well,
- 10:49maybe the availability.
- 10:51Yeah, it's €149 for us here in the
- 10:54Netherlands, but not directly available
- 10:56in the US, and we see it listed at $200
- 10:59on Amazon. But like you've seen on this
- 11:01list, it's for those looking for a
- 11:03premium product, not value for money.
- 11:06Speaking of money,
- 11:08let's talk about the Bose Ultra Open at
- 11:10$250.
- 11:12Sometimes when you want the best, you
- 11:14got to cough up the most. And for us,
- 11:17that's not the Bose Ultra Open. It does
- 11:19not beat the Huawei, for example, on
- 11:21call quality, but does come with buttons
- 11:23that do everything. Since their launch,
- 11:26though, Bose has upgraded these buds
- 11:27with better calls and multi-point, so
- 11:29they cover all bases. Now, the case is a
- 11:31bit larger than the Huawei, and even at
- 11:33the reduced price of $250, I'm not sure
- 11:37if it makes sense for most people
- 11:38considering you can buy five or seven of
- 11:41some of the other buds on this list for
- 11:44that price. But hey, it's objectively
- 11:46still a good product. And if you get a
- 11:47good deal or you don't care about the
- 11:49price, these are still decent. All
- 11:51right, let's pick one from the premium
- 11:54boys. Which one is it going to be,
- 11:56Kevin? Yeah, it's pretty obvious for me.
- 11:59It's I'm going to stick with the king
- 12:00here. It's hard to dethrone the Huawei
- 12:02Free Clip. I mean, it's just packed to
- 12:04the gills with features, but it also
- 12:06performs in design, comfort, call,
- 12:08sound, all of that. Of course, the price
- 12:10ain't pretty, but that's kind of the
- 12:12range we're in right now, aren't we?
- 12:13Yeah. Yeah. I think I have to also
- 12:15unfortunately go for the Huawei Free
- 12:17Clip. I must say the most improved
- 12:18reward here does go to the Bose. It came
- 12:20with nothing out of the box. It was
- 12:22disastrous and they've really fixed a
- 12:24lot of things. But yeah, you can't beat
- 12:27these guys. And I think if you really
- 12:30wanted button controls, you'd go for the
- 12:31Bose. But I've just used them so often,
- 12:34the Huawei, that I don't care about
- 12:36that. Yep. So that's the roundup of our
- 12:39favorite open style clip style buds. A
- 12:43big thanks to you guys, our viewers and
- 12:45subscribers, and our wonderful tested
- 12:48tier subscribers and supporters, these
- 12:52guys. But let's not forget our highest
- 12:54tier, which is the fuckman tier. A big
- 12:57thanks to Paula, Rads, Panda, Rachel,
- 13:00and Jay. Thank you guys very much.
- 13:03You've been clipping it on, and we've
- 13:05been dhring. Do we do we
