1. 0:00You keep asking which religion brings
2. 0:02you closer to me.
3. 0:05You search for me in religions, in
4. 0:07arguments,
5. 0:08>> [music]
6. 0:08>> in rituals,
7. 0:10in sacrifices,
8. 0:12in the endless voices claiming
9. 0:15>> [music]
10. 0:16>> they alone know where I live.
11. 0:18You argue over who's closest to me.
12. 0:22>> [music]
13. 0:22>> You divide yourself into religions,
14. 0:25tribes, and labels,
15. 0:27>> [music]
16. 0:28>> each claiming
17. 0:29God belongs to us.
18. 0:32While you compete for my approval, you
19. 0:34wound the very souls I created.
20. 0:38You reject one another. You discriminate
21. 0:40against one another.
22. 0:42You teach children to fear one another.
23. 0:45Tell me,
24. 0:47how could hatred ever become the road
25. 0:50>> [music]
26. 0:50>> that leads to love?
27. 0:52How could discrimination ever
28. 0:54bring you closer to the one who created
29. 0:57you all?
30. 0:58>> [music]
31. 0:59>> Every act of cruelty committed in my
32. 1:02name carries you farther away from me,
33. 1:05not closer.
34. 1:07You did not protect my truth by hating
35. 1:09one another.
36. 1:10>> [music]
37. 1:11>> You walked miles away from it.
38. 1:13If your faith makes you love only those
39. 1:15who look like you, believe like you,
40. 1:18pray like you, [music]
41. 1:19then you have not understood me.
42. 1:21The ones closest to me they are never
43. 1:25those who shouted my name the loudest.
44. 1:28They were the ones who loved my creation
45. 1:32the deepest. If you truly wish to find
46. 1:35me,
47. 1:36look for kindness.
48. 1:38Where kindness lives, there you will
49. 1:40find me.
50. 1:41I have never delighted in hatred carried
51. 1:43out in my name. [music]
52. 1:45I have never smiled when one human
53. 1:47looked at another and said, "You are
54. 1:50less worthy because you believe
55. 1:52differently."
56. 1:53If your love for me makes you despise
57. 1:56another human [music] being,
58. 1:58then you have mistaken fear for faith.
59. 2:02Do not claim that I asked you to hate
60. 2:05those who believe [music] differently.
61. 2:07Do not claim that I delight in wars
62. 2:11[music] fought in my name.
63. 2:12I never asked you to wage war against
64. 2:15another [music] soul simply because
65. 2:18they walked a different path.
66. 2:20You were never created to conquer one
67. 2:22another.
68. 2:22>> [music]
69. 2:23>> You were created to care for one
70. 2:24another. Those who spread hatred,
71. 2:27discrimination, and [music] violence
72. 2:30while claiming to defend me
73. 2:32have not come closer to my heart. They
74. 2:35have walked farther away from it.
75. 2:37My language has
76. 2:39always been kindness.
77. 2:41It needs no translation.
78. 2:43A hungry child understands it.
79. 2:46A frightened animal understands it.
80. 2:48A lonely stranger understands it.
81. 2:51Even a heart that has forgotten how to
82. 2:54trust
83. 2:55still recognizes genuine compassion.
84. 2:58>> [music]
85. 2:58>> Every act of kindness speaks my
86. 3:01language.
87. 3:02Every hand that lifts another carries my
88. 3:04presence.
89. 3:06Every heart that chooses compassion over
90. 3:08hatred [music]
91. 3:09becomes a place where I gladly dwell.
92. 3:12Do not ask which religion is closest to
93. 3:15me.
94. 3:16Ask instead who became kinder because
95. 3:20they believed.
96. 3:21The answer has always brought you closer
97. 3:24to me than any argument ever could.
98. 3:26>> [music]
99. 3:27>> When you see a heart that loves without
100. 3:30discrimination, when you see someone
101. 3:32>> [music]
102. 3:33>> protecting the vulnerable
103. 3:35without asking their religion, race,
104. 3:37[music]
105. 3:38or background,
106. 3:39you're seeing a reflection of me.
107. 3:42Because wherever kindness is alive,
108. 3:45I'm already there. Until the next
109. 3:47letter,
110. 3:48if you wish to find me,
111. 3:49become the reason that someone still
112. 3:51believes in kindness.
