  1. 0:00would you like to know how to create a
  2. 0:02strong portfolio that could get you into
  3. 0:04any top fashion School in the world in
  4. 0:07this video I will try to demystify the
  5. 0:09process of getting into some of the best
  6. 0:10fashion design schools and I will share
  7. 0:12with you insights that could elevate
  8. 0:14your portfolio to a whole new level
  9. 0:16getting into one of the top fashion
  10. 0:19schools could be a huge springboard for
  11. 0:21your career if you research some of the
  12. 0:23most influential designers of our time
  13. 0:25what you'll find most of them have in
  14. 0:27common is the school they study at and
  15. 0:30in most cases those are CSM which I
  16. 0:32graduated from Royal Academy of Fine
  17. 0:35Arts ifem or Parsons in Europe for
  18. 0:38example
  19. 0:39the teaching in this schools is
  20. 0:40fundamentally different from what most
  21. 0:43other schools offer because the focus is
  22. 0:45on creativity and on the ambition to
  23. 0:47push the industry forward however these
  24. 0:50schools are notoriously hard to get into
  25. 0:52there is very little guidance available
  26. 0:54to help you achieve this and there's a
  27. 0:56lot of misinformation online and unlike
  28. 0:59what the popular opinion is more
  29. 1:02important than your talent and
  30. 1:04experience is knowing which criteria
  31. 1:07these universities are checking your
  32. 1:09portfolio by because then you can focus
  33. 1:12your time and energy on perfecting those
  34. 1:14specific skills which will drastically
  35. 1:16increase your chances of getting in the
  36. 1:19truth is that even if you do have solid
  37. 1:21skills as well as Talent you're still
  38. 1:23not guaranteed the entry and even if
  39. 1:26you're not in this on your own maybe you
  40. 1:28have a tutor or you're telling some
  41. 1:29other type of a course most teaching
  42. 1:32programs are too scattered and they're
  43. 1:34not focused enough on the specific
  44. 1:35requirements of the top BA program so at
  45. 1:38the end will most likely leave you
  46. 1:40confused and insecure in what you're
  47. 1:43doing
  48. 1:43due to the exclusivity of the
  49. 1:45information related to the top courses
  50. 1:47it is hard to know what to focus on
  51. 1:50which work to include and how to present
  52. 1:52it let alone be sure that your work is
  53. 1:55creative and unique enough for many
  54. 1:57students the reality of portfolio
  55. 1:59preparations look like this
  56. 2:01years of dreaming and researching about
  57. 2:03a course
  58. 2:04and months of preparing projects and
  59. 2:07practicing skills
  60. 2:09and digging for first-hand information
  61. 2:11on random forums in hope they will find
  62. 2:14the right advice which will help them
  63. 2:16stand out in the thousands of
  64. 2:18applications
  65. 2:19or people make a very last minute
  66. 2:21decision to apply and have a complete
  67. 2:23lack of understanding of the process and
  68. 2:25how to put together an exciting body of
  69. 2:27work
  70. 2:28well only those with the right
  71. 2:30information
  72. 2:31relevant skills and the right mindset
  73. 2:34can apply with confidence that their
  74. 2:37work won't go unnoticed my name is
  75. 2:40isidora jurovich and I'm a london-based
  76. 2:42fashion designer I study fashion at San
  77. 2:45Jose Martins where I did both the
  78. 2:46foundation and the ba course and during
  79. 2:49and after my studies I worked at quite a
  80. 2:51few london-based Brands as well as
  81. 2:54Givenchy in Paris as a producer at one
  82. 2:57Granary and as a woman as a Runway
  83. 2:59designer at Burberry
  84. 3:01and more recently I started working
  85. 3:03independently for clients including
  86. 3:05Kylie Jenner in the next few minutes I'm
  87. 3:08going to share with you exactly how
  88. 3:10myself and my students have gotten
  89. 3:13ourselves a place on some of the most
  90. 3:14competitive fashion courses in the world
  91. 3:16how we got to be the part of the top of
  92. 3:19the fashion industry and how you can do
  93. 3:21the same I'm also going to share with
  94. 3:23you the biggest mistakes that students
  95. 3:25make when it comes to applying the three
  96. 3:28things that differentiate successful
  97. 3:30applicants from those who don't get in
  98. 3:32and the key Concepts behind the method
  99. 3:35for fashion portfolio course which will
  100. 3:38drastically increase the chances of
  101. 3:40getting in over the past few years I've
  102. 3:42been dedicating to helping people who
  103. 3:44are committed to two things
  104. 3:46developing their design skills with
  105. 3:48intent of becoming an industry leader
  106. 3:50and having a lot of fun in the process
  107. 3:53so if you're someone who has an ambition
  108. 3:55to be a great designer you are
  109. 3:58definitely in the right place and you're
  110. 3:59going to love what I'm about to share
  111. 4:01with you so this course is for students
  112. 4:04who are already enrolled into Foundation
  113. 4:06or other type of art design courses a
  114. 4:09level students and Senior year high
  115. 4:11school students as well as for people
  116. 4:13with little or without any prior
  117. 4:16experience who wish to enter the fashion
  118. 4:18industry or fashion designers who just
  119. 4:21wish to learn new skills to elevate
  120. 4:23their work before we start I would just
  121. 4:25like to share with you the results that
  122. 4:26I've achieved using the method that I
  123. 4:28base this course on
  124. 4:30so for example csm's acceptance rate is
  125. 4:33seven percent and last year eighty
  126. 4:35percent of my students whose first
  127. 4:36choice was CSM got accepted other
  128. 4:40students got into universities such as
  129. 4:42Westminster Kingston and ifm
  130. 4:45and in the previous years I worked with
  131. 4:47people who got into Parsons rural
  132. 4:50Academy of Fine Arts and non-verb and
  133. 4:52the foundation courses CSM
  134. 4:54after helping many students to get into
  135. 4:56the desired courses I started noticing
  136. 4:58patterns of what people struggle with
  137. 5:00the most and what they find the most
  138. 5:03valuable when working with me so I
  139. 5:05started developing a method which could
  140. 5:07produce results for anyone regardless of
  141. 5:09their background and experience
  142. 5:12I compiled everything that I learned
  143. 5:13from my studies as well as through work
  144. 5:15with my students into a course which
  145. 5:18makes this process a lot easier faster
  146. 5:21and more fun now the best thing about
  147. 5:23the method for fashion portfolio course
  148. 5:25that I'm teaching is that it gives you a
  149. 5:28breakdown of the whole design process it
  150. 5:31teaches you the exact skill that you
  151. 5:32need and it gives you the key
  152. 5:34information regarding different
  153. 5:35expectations and requirements of the top
  154. 5:38courses
  155. 5:39the exercises will be very Hands-On with
  156. 5:42straightforward instructions so you can
  157. 5:44rapidly strengthen the quality of your
  158. 5:46work it works regardless of your
  159. 5:48background and experience and because
  160. 5:50these techniques are taught at CSM they
  161. 5:53are guaranteed to produce you an
  162. 5:55exciting outcome plus you will get to
  163. 5:57see dozens of scheduled pages and
  164. 6:00portfolio examples from my foundation
  165. 6:02for a second even the final year of my
  166. 6:05studies which is a very valuable source
  167. 6:08for Learning and you won't be able to
  168. 6:10find that anywhere else online
  169. 6:12now among thousands of designers around
  170. 6:15the globe I'm sure they've noticed two
  171. 6:16kinds one would be the wannabe designers
  172. 6:20who tend to copy other people's work and
  173. 6:23generally there are people who just
  174. 6:24follow the trends and the other kind are
  175. 6:27leaders so big creative directors or
  176. 6:29designers working for luxury brands or
  177. 6:32emerging young talent that launches
  178. 6:34their own Brands straight after college
  179. 6:36these people create Trends and push the
  180. 6:38industry forward so what is the
  181. 6:41difference between those who become
  182. 6:42industry leaders and those who copy
  183. 6:45well having seen works of hundreds of
  184. 6:48graduates during my five years at CSM as
  185. 6:51well as through industry work I learned
  186. 6:53that successful designers have certain
  187. 6:55mindset and skills in place which
  188. 6:58wannabees don't
  189. 6:59wannabes focused on creating cool
  190. 7:02designs without the research process to
  191. 7:04back up the design decisions
  192. 7:06when you focus on experimenting
  193. 7:09researching drawing as well as learning
  194. 7:12about art and design your process will
  195. 7:15naturally lead you to an exciting
  196. 7:16outcome
  197. 7:17also starting a project knowing exactly
  198. 7:19how it will turn out won't let you see
  199. 7:22exciting possibilities that come along
  200. 7:24in a process it is also much more boring
  201. 7:26now I wanted to post for a moment and
  202. 7:29let this next Point really sink in
  203. 7:32because it's a big one and it's almost
  204. 7:34the exact opposite of what everybody
  205. 7:36else out there is telling you
  206. 7:38final outcome doesn't matter
  207. 7:42those applicants focus on the final
  208. 7:44outcome instead of the process which is
  209. 7:46the only way to come up with exciting
  210. 7:48work
  211. 7:49examiners also want to see mistakes in
  212. 7:52formal failed experiments in your
  213. 7:54portfolio
  214. 7:55they're now looking for mature designers
  215. 7:57they're looking for potential for growth
  216. 8:00and hunger for Innovation and this is
  217. 8:02best shown through experiments you need
  218. 8:05to be willing to take risks and
  219. 8:07sometimes even fail in the process of
  220. 8:08discovery and the third thing is your
  221. 8:12skills don't need to be extraordinary to
  222. 8:14get in now remember that there are three
  223. 8:16things that I said the successful
  224. 8:18applicants have in their portfolios that
  225. 8:20those who fail don't well those three
  226. 8:22things are high quality research
  227. 8:26and Innovative design development which
  228. 8:29is basically a process or a technique
  229. 8:31that they come up with as a result of
  230. 8:33fruitless experimentation and thorough
  231. 8:36research
  232. 8:37and the third thing is effective
  233. 8:39presentation
  234. 8:40presentation can make a body of work
  235. 8:42appear much stronger than it actually is
  236. 8:46because it all comes down to this if you
  237. 8:49don't have the tools to master these
  238. 8:51three things your chances of getting in
  239. 8:54are extremely low now let's get down to
  240. 8:57business and show you exactly how you
  241. 8:59can start creating a portfolio
  242. 9:01there are two main things that you
  243. 9:03should be doing at this stage primary
  244. 9:05and secondary research and design
  245. 9:08development and experimenting in other
  246. 9:10words knowing how to translate that
  247. 9:12research into interesting developments
  248. 9:15and if you're not getting Innovative
  249. 9:17type of work right now then let me ask
  250. 9:19you two questions
  251. 9:20what are your sources of research and
  252. 9:23how much do you research before you
  253. 9:24start developing
  254. 9:26do you select your imagery analyze it
  255. 9:29and then use that to inform Your Design
  256. 9:30developments or do you rely on a
  257. 9:33preconceived idea of why you want your
  258. 9:35collection to be
  259. 9:37have you ever tried to learn new or
  260. 9:39improve your design development skills
  261. 9:41it is so easy to get overwhelmed by
  262. 9:43shiny things like expensive Fabrics or
  263. 9:46complex techniques or this idea of a
  264. 9:49perfectly finished garment when in
  265. 9:51reality you should be focusing on
  266. 9:53research and design development
  267. 9:56successful applicants know these three
  268. 9:58things where the quality research can be
  269. 10:00found and how to translate it into
  270. 10:02design developments
  271. 10:04which design development techniques to
  272. 10:06use and they also know that the
  273. 10:09presentation is as important as the work
  274. 10:11itself
  275. 10:13when you have strong research and unique
  276. 10:15design development creating a strong
  277. 10:17portfolio becomes as easy as choosing
  278. 10:20the best Sketchbook Pages the whole
  279. 10:22process becomes much more enjoyable
  280. 10:24because you'll be working with
  281. 10:26confidence that you're doing the things
  282. 10:27in the right way and While others are
  283. 10:29looking for a way to make their
  284. 10:31portfolio pagers nicer or more creative
  285. 10:34you'll spend time developing a body of
  286. 10:36work which won't need redoing or fixing
  287. 10:39after it's been produced here I'll just
  288. 10:41talk you through a few key Concepts that
  289. 10:44matter for fashion portfolio courses
  290. 10:46based on
  291. 10:47the process starts by knowing how to do
  292. 10:49quality research and where exactly to
  293. 10:52look for it there are two types of
  294. 10:54research primary which is your own that
  295. 10:57means the work that you created or
  296. 10:59gathered without the influence of other
  297. 11:01people and this can include photography
  298. 11:04observational drawings personal
  299. 11:06possessions or art that you created
  300. 11:09and the other type of research is
  301. 11:11secondary
  302. 11:12that is other sources not your own and
  303. 11:14this could represent work of other
  304. 11:16people in forms of imagery articles from
  305. 11:20books magazines or the internet
  306. 11:23once you have a solid body of research
  307. 11:25which feels fresh and has a unique angle
  308. 11:28you can start merging different elements
  309. 11:30together by using design development
  310. 11:32techniques
  311. 11:33and designed to open techniques covered
  312. 11:35in this course are 3D techniques such as
  313. 11:38draping deconstruction and paper
  314. 11:40manipulation creative drawing
  315. 11:43observational drawing as well as Mark
  316. 11:45making illustration and collage and
  317. 11:49color and texture developments as well
  318. 11:51as collection development
  319. 11:53all these processes need to be driven by
  320. 11:55risk-taking and experimentation and the
  321. 11:58result of following these sequence of
  322. 12:00steps correctly is an outcome that no
  323. 12:03one has seen before and the best part
  324. 12:06about it is that you'll finally have the
  325. 12:08tools with which you can move your
  326. 12:10creative process forward even when you
  327. 12:12feel stuck the final step of this course
  328. 12:14is portfolio presentation presentation
  329. 12:17is a very broad term that covers
  330. 12:20everything from how you lay out the
  331. 12:22imagery in your portfolio and your final
  332. 12:24illustrations to the creative direction
  333. 12:27of your photo shoots or how you present
  334. 12:29yourself in real life and online and
  335. 12:32this is mostly learned your studies of
  336. 12:34art design and marketing
  337. 12:36in this course I will teach you how to
  338. 12:38create a portfolio that will emphasize
  339. 12:40your strengths and help you stand out I
  340. 12:43will explain all the rules and logic
  341. 12:45around portfolio presentation and I will
  342. 12:47answer the most common questions such as
  343. 12:49what to include how to know if your work
  344. 12:52is strong enough how to organize
  345. 12:54projects and how to organize content on
  346. 12:57individual Pages as well as how to
  347. 12:59communicate your ideas clearly and how
  348. 13:02to create a strong layout we will also
  349. 13:05cover topics such as photo shoots
  350. 13:07interviews and personal statements so
  351. 13:09just to sum up
  352. 13:11to create a body of work which can get
  353. 13:13you into any top fashion School you need
  354. 13:15to get these four things in alignment
  355. 13:17and those are research design
  356. 13:19developments experiments and portfolio
  357. 13:22presentation
  358. 13:24when you get them in alignment you will
  359. 13:25produce a portfolio which will really
  360. 13:27stand out and this is only possible
  361. 13:30through Guidance with examples
  362. 13:32Focus practice of those key skills and
  363. 13:35understanding of the full process so
  364. 13:38this course will be perfect for you if
  365. 13:40you're looking to secure a place at one
  366. 13:42of the top global fashion programs if
  367. 13:45you would like to understand what to
  368. 13:47include in your portfolio and how to
  369. 13:49present it
  370. 13:50and if you would like to build a skill
  371. 13:52set using techniques that are accessible
  372. 13:55to insiders only
  373. 13:57it will also be suitable for you if
  374. 13:58you're looking for a mentor with
  375. 14:00industry experience or if you would just
  376. 14:03like to see some examples of CSM
  377. 14:06sketchbooks portfolios garments and
  378. 14:08briefs it is also for people who are
  379. 14:11willing to have some skin and a game
  380. 14:13show dedication and understand that they
  381. 14:16need to invest their money in order to
  382. 14:18grow their skill set and take their
  383. 14:20career to the next level
  384. 14:22the skills that you will learn will last
  385. 14:24your lifetime and could not only get you
  386. 14:26into your desired course but could make
  387. 14:28you more prepared than anyone else in
  388. 14:30that course so who is this not for
  389. 14:33it is not for people who like the idea
  390. 14:36of being a designer more than the
  391. 14:38process of creating it is also not for
  392. 14:41people who make excuses and don't take
  393. 14:43responsibility for their own learning
  394. 14:45and progress
  395. 14:46and it's not for anyone who is not
  396. 14:48prepared to roll up their sleeves get
  397. 14:51out of the comfort zone and take action
  398. 14:53to get results if all of this sounds
  399. 14:55like something you're interested in then
  400. 14:58here is what you will get exactly
  401. 15:00the course contains all the key
