- 4:20>> You know, I'm owing you guys like how
- 4:21many episodes now? Four episodes, I
- 4:23think. I have done four Sundays, no
- 4:25episodes.
- 4:26>> [music]
- 4:27>> And today's episode was not even
- 4:28supposed to be today's episode. Today's
- 4:29episode was supposed to be how to steal
- 4:31a wardrobe. I had that recorded, by the
- 4:33way. I just don't have that edited.
- 4:34[music] Today, I'm recording
- 4:37what to do with offenses. It came
- 4:39strongly on my heart, and then [music]
- 4:41I decided, "You know what? Nobody said
- 4:43we had to stick with following that
- 4:44way." So, let us do this thing that
- 4:47there is emphasis on for that season.
- 4:49And I strongly believe that someone
- 4:50needs to hear this. I also it is release
- 4:53for me, really. If this is your first
- 4:55time of listening and you've listened up
- 4:56to this point, [music]
- 4:58welcome. Just welcome. There's room for
- 5:00you. This is how I know you're a resty,
- 5:01because [music]
- 5:02if you're not a resty, you don't make it
- 5:04past the first 10 seconds. But, you're
- 5:07here at
- 5:09almost 5 minutes, if not 5 [music]
- 5:11minutes. Please, please come on and sit
- 5:13down. There's there's space.
- 5:14You are welcome to The Rest Podcast.
- 5:17[music] The voice you're listening to

- 5:20is Oma, and I am the host of this
- 5:23beautiful podcast. Here, we share
- 5:25refreshing and evening spirit-inspired

- 5:47been here from the beginning in
- 5:48beginning in for the in-house committee
- 5:51the the rest is in rest is [music] you
- 5:53get. How have you been?
- 5:56What's up? How is life?
- 5:58How has it been? What are you up to?
- 6:01What are you doing more of what are you
- 6:03doing less of? It's a real pity that
- 6:05WhatsApp [music] took our comment
- 6:07section for us. But then of course if
- 6:09you're listening and you're the WhatsApp
- 6:10community, you can send that message on
- 6:12the community as you listen even right
- 6:14now. And if you'd like to send us an
- 6:16email [email protected]
- 6:18[music]
- 6:19I would remember to put it in the
- 6:20description of this episode so that you
- 6:21can write us an email about how you're
- 6:24doing and how you're holding up.
- 6:26So today's episode is a very important
- 6:29episode and I did not know the
- 6:30importance of it until I had to go
- 6:32through
- 6:34learning this and it wasn't the sweetest
- 6:37of sweetest of experiences. You [music]
- 6:39know how you go through something and
- 6:40you come out and you realize you know I
- 6:42would have had it easier if I just
- 6:43listened to God.
- 6:45But then because you didn't now [music]
- 6:47look at you. Look at you you you know. I
- 6:51I remember seeing a Substack note of
- 6:53someone saying something like now that
- 6:55we used to study that you're not talking
- 6:56to that boy you're not hearing now it's
- 6:59past 11:00 p.m. and you're still texting
- 7:00him [music] and you're laughing and now
- 7:02you're matchmaking you're like matching
- 7:05your son names and all of that. When
- 7:07what happens will happen you know when
- 7:09he's called to comfort her.
- 7:11Because
- 7:13there will be tears.
- 7:15So it's that kind [music] of thing that
- 7:16happened. It's like you see that you go
- 7:18through the way that God calls you to go
- 7:20through like a like an obedient lamb
- 7:22following after the shepherd or like a
- 7:25goat. They'll be dragging you by the
- 7:28horn dragging you by the legs pushing
- 7:31you inside guys. [music]
- 7:33That was exactly what happened to me and
- 7:35because of how sensitive [music] this
- 7:37issue can be I I I it's important that
- 7:41we look at it biblically. I think it's
- 7:43important that we address it. Yeah,
- 7:45yeah, for the first time listeners, so
- 7:46we are doing this series on the podcast
- 7:48titled Matters of the Heart series, and
- 7:50our anchor scripture is a scripture that
- 7:52says "Guard your heart with all
- 7:53diligence, for out of it proceed every
- 7:55issue of life." We've come to understand
- 7:57[music] that our lives are a direct
- 8:01reflection of what is happening on the
- 8:02inside of our hearts. And it's important
- 8:05that we pay attention [music] to the
- 8:06things that can both defile and edify
- 8:09our hearts so that we are properly
- 8:13[music]
- 8:14positioned to live
- 8:17full lives according to God's [music]
- 8:20standard.
- 8:21That said, let's get right into the meat
- 8:23of the matter.
- 8:25What? No, no, that's not how I say it.
- 8:27Let us get into the heart of the matter
- 8:30as we consider the matters of the heart.
- 8:34See, if you're good, you're good. You
- 8:35know, if [music] if if it's there, it's
- 8:38there. If it's not there, it's not
- 8:40there. Let us start with defining
- 8:42offense both biblically and what we know
- 8:45it to [music] be. Many times when people
- 8:47hear the word offense, you know the
- 8:48thing that comes to your heart? Somebody
- 8:49did something to me. They offended
- 8:51[music] me. Someone hurt me. Someone
- 8:53caused me pain. They said things to me
- 8:55they should never have said, did things
- 8:57to [music] me they should have never
- 8:58done. And now you're offended.
- 9:00In the context of the Bible, it can also
- 9:02refer to a stumbling [music] block or a
- 9:06cause of sin,
- 9:08an act that leads someone to fall away
- 9:10from the faith
- 9:12or to fall [music] away from
- 9:13righteousness. So, I saw an interesting
- 9:15word. The word I saw is scandalon.
- 9:19And it's is [music] a Greek word. You
- 9:23know, the places of scripture where you
- 9:24see something about a stumbling block,
- 9:26like the way Jesus is referred to as a
- 9:28rock of offense to those who do not
- 9:29believe, right?
- 9:30>> [music]
- 9:30>> It actually also that word scandalon
- 9:33means a trap or a snare. [music]
- 9:36Any impediment placed in the way and
- 9:39causing one to stumble
- 9:41or fall. Any [music] person or thing by
- 9:45which one is drawn into error or sin.
- 9:49Offense is a trap.
- 9:51It's a snare. When I saw this online, it
- 9:53in my head it was like that makes a lot
- 9:55of sense.
- 9:56>> [music]
- 9:56>> Because the entire process that brings
- 10:00you to the point of taking offense
- 10:03>> [music]
- 10:03>> is an entire process.
- 10:05It does not immediately happen. If
- 10:07someone says something to me and I don't
- 10:08take it to heart, I don't take it to
- 10:09heart full stop. But then if I decide
- 10:11[music]
- 10:11to take it to heart, you realize that
- 10:13there is a part of that, a large chunk
- 10:15of that that is my decision.
- 10:18I remember last year one time my pastor
- 10:21was speaking to me about not becoming an
- 10:23offensive person. So, he said, "Many
- 10:26times the goal of offense is larger than
- 10:30just getting [music] you offended. It's
- 10:32There are many things that Satan seeks
- 10:33to achieve when he makes you when he
- 10:35tries to offend you through people."
- 10:37>> [music]
- 10:38>> And he says the one thing you must guard
- 10:39against is becoming an offensive [music]
- 10:43person. And he explained what that
- 10:44meant. The idea isn't to not become
- 10:47someone that is easily offended. Like,
- 10:49there's nothing you are you you just
- 10:52find that offense comes to you really
- 10:56easily. That is not a very good place to
- 10:58be. When you become the person who can
- 11:00barely overlook, who can barely practice
- 11:03the character of love that covers, that
- 11:06covers a multitude [music] of sins, that
- 11:08covers offenses, Satan Satan has trapped
- 11:12you. Satan has He has gotten you in his
- 11:15trap. So, that to be offended, if if if
- 11:18an offense is like a trap or a snare,
- 11:20[music] then
- 11:21to be offended is to walk into that trap
- 11:23or that snare. I started like this
- 11:25because
- 11:26>> [music]
- 11:26>> I think it's such an important
- 11:28perspective to have. We We never forget
- 11:31that we are in battle. And many times in
- 11:33the heat of emotions and in the heat of
- 11:35pain [music] and in the heat of hurt,
- 11:37you will forget that. All you know is
- 11:40you want Is it that you're [music]
- 11:41seeking closure or you want someone to
- 11:43validate your feelings are valid? And
- 11:46with the way that there is a lot of pop
- 11:49psychology everywhere these days and a
- 11:51lot of psychotalk, people speaking like
- 11:53psychologists, Googling, [music]
- 11:54ChatGPT, this, that, all of that stuff
- 11:57happening, even with the rise of people
- 11:59being more aware of mental health,
- 12:00there's also the misinformation that
- 12:02comes with it and there's also the
- 12:04emo There's also the padding of your
- 12:06emotions in a way that makes you think
- 12:07that it's biblical, but we must learn
- 12:09>> [music]
- 12:09>> to let our lives be instructed by God's
- 12:12word. We must learn to take our lives
- 12:14and put into the [music] context of
- 12:16God's word. It's like if the word of God
- 12:18is a bottle, you you force your life to
- 12:21fit into that bottle.
- 12:23Do you get it? You don't take the bottle
- 12:24and fit [music] it into your own life.
- 12:26It Does that make sense? All right. So,
- 12:28these things may not come off as the
- 12:30sweetest [music]
- 12:31thing you're going to hear today, but I
- 12:33tell you every time that you're
- 12:34offended, and I say this with so much
- 12:36pain in my heart because because while
- 12:37writing this and while prepping for this
- 12:39particular episode, I just realized in
- 12:41how many places I have been so wrong,
- 12:43[music] how many things that wouldn't
- 12:45have gotten back, how many things I
- 12:46would have walked away from, how much
- 12:48more freedom I would have had at certain
- 12:50phases of my life
- 12:51>> [music]
- 12:51>> if I just decided to do what the Bible
- 12:54said and to follow the law of God.
- 12:57Offense is a trap.
- 12:58It leads to so many things. Can make you
- 13:01a bitter person. The root [music] of
- 13:02bitterness will just find its abode in
- 13:05you. It's And the thing about offense is
- 13:07that it rarely stays with between you
- 13:09and [music] the person that you had that
- 13:10issue with or the person that offended
- 13:12you. It spills into your other
- 13:14relationships, makes you suspicious that
- 13:16you are betrayed, [music] makes you
- 13:18unnecessarily angry if somebody if you
- 13:20realize someone trampled on you. It just
- 13:22makes you take out anger on the wrong
- 13:25people. And whether you like it or not,
- 13:26it's like when someone is bleeding and
- 13:28they are running, as you continue to run
- 13:29your race,
- 13:31you will notice that everywhere [music]
- 13:33you step on, you will leave a blood
- 13:35trail. It's poison that you've sucked
- 13:37[music] in, and so there's a very high
- 13:39tendency, no matter how much you try to
- 13:41protect others from it, if you don't
- 13:43deal with it, you will bleed on other
- 13:46people. That said, [music] what do we do
- 13:49with offenses? Now, this is
- 13:51this is a very important [music] thing.
- 13:53Whether
- 13:55the person has admitted to the pain
- 13:58that they caused you or not,
- 14:01have you ever Have you ever had an issue
- 14:03with someone and you realize that
- 14:04>> [music]
- 14:05>> their lives really just moved on. Like
- 14:07it is your life that was spiraling in
- 14:10town in in terms of direction. You are
- 14:12crashing up and down, and [music] their
- 14:15life just moved on. Like
- 14:18How do you move on from that?
- 14:20How do you move on from hurting someone
- 14:22this deeply? And [music] And it can
- 14:24cause you so much more pain every time
- 14:26you remember, you regurgitate, you just
- 14:28[music] dwell on it, you go over and you
- 14:30remember How could they? You've been
- 14:32asking how could they for years.
- 14:36You've been asking how to How could they
- 14:38[music] for years.
- 14:39What do you do with offenses? This is
- 14:42very important. Offense is actually a
- 14:46sign of the end time. It is mentioned in
- 14:49the Bible, Matthew 24:10. [music]
- 14:51Let's go there. Matthew chapter 24:10
- 14:53says, "And then shall many be offended
- 14:55and shall betray one another and shall
- 14:56hate one another. And many false
- 14:58prophets shall arise and shall deceive
- 15:00men." Offense [music] is a mark of the
- 15:02end time.
- 15:03And Jesus told us that we will our lives
- 15:07will not be void of offenses. [music] We
- 15:09will have many offenses in this life.
- 15:11So, you need to have it settled within
- 15:13you that even the people who really love
- 15:14you [music] will offend you.
- 15:16The people who really love you are going
- 15:17to offend you whether intentionally or
- 15:20unintentionally. So, it's important that
- 15:23you learn
- 15:25how to guard your heart from falling for
- 15:28the trap of the enemy because the
- 15:29question is not if you'll be offended.
- 15:32You can't escape [music] it.
- 15:34What do you do with offenses?
- 15:37The first thing is
- 15:40Before offenses happen, it's important
- 15:42that we have the disposition of
- 15:43forgiveness.
- 15:45Now, the beautiful thing about
- 15:46forgiveness is that you think you are
- 15:48[music] forgiven.
- 15:49So, you will most likely not make it a
- 15:51prayer. You will most likely not tell
- 15:52God to help you
- 15:54help your heart to be able to forgive
- 15:57like he instructs [music] us to.
- 15:59Forgiveness is an instruction. We are
- 16:00instructed to forgive those who trespass
- 16:03against us. All right? And you'd see
- 16:05that when [music] Jesus prayed that
- 16:07prayer in what we now know to be the
- 16:09Lord's Prayer,
- 16:10as we forgive those who trespass against
- 16:13us. You [music] see that it's it's it's
- 16:14included in the prayer. It's it's
- 16:16important that you have a disposition
- 16:19[music]
- 16:20of forgiveness. I want to become the
- 16:22kind of person who can let go [music]
- 16:24quickly. Forgiveness actually means to
- 16:26let go. Let it be that I can say, "This
- 16:30thing pain me, but because I love you,
- 16:32Jesus, and because you've instructed me
- 16:34[music] to be to forgive, I will let it
- 16:36go." I'm greatly forgiven, so me too
- 16:38I'll forgive. You know, I feel like this
- 16:40particular episode is [music] going to
- 16:41really go into the other episode I was
- 16:43supposed to do on forgiveness. I might
- 16:45just [music] put them together here and
- 16:46we'll not have that one on forgiveness.
- 16:48So, you need to have a predisposition.
- 16:52That's what I meant to say, not just a
- 16:53disposition, a predisposition so that
- 16:56before it even happens,
- 16:59you [music] are the your heart is in a
- 17:02place where it is ready to forgive.
- 17:04There is a jealousy, there's a
- 17:05carefulness, [music] there is a
- 17:07mindfulness that comes with the idea of
- 17:10keeping of garden. Guard your heart with
- 17:14all diligence. There is a There's a
- 17:15carefulness. You don't allow just
- 17:17anything because our hearts are so
- 17:20Our hearts are so Your Your heart is
- 17:21deceitful and your heart can also be
- 17:23deceived.
- 17:24>> [music]
- 17:24>> It's such a fertile ground for any seed
- 17:27that falls on it, the good or evil.
- 17:29[music] And if it is that important, it
- 17:32is the place where spiritual
- 17:33transactions are held. Offense is a is a
- 17:37big deal, though.
- 17:38But the way to deal with it is
- 17:39definitely you know to just look on the
- 17:42offense [music] or try to not be an
- 17:44offensive person. That's not it. You
- 17:46will not achieve what must be achieved
- 17:48by [music] the spirit in your flesh. And
- 17:50forgiveness cannot be achieved by the
- 17:52flesh.
- 17:54We must let the Lord work He work in us
- 17:57in our hearts. It must be something we
- 17:59pray we ask Him help me
- 18:02to be forgiven. [music]
- 18:04I want to be a forgiving child of yours.
- 18:08I want to be a forgiving person.
- 18:12So when you recognize that you've been
- 18:13offended, [music]
- 18:14the first thing to do after you
- 18:16recognize cuz it's important that you
- 18:17recognize it. Cuz sometimes people
- 18:19literally move on with life and they
- 18:21don't realize that there's something in
- 18:23my chest that is tight. [music] Is this
- 18:25offense? Am I Is this Like you can't
- 18:26really tell. So it's important to
- 18:28recognize it.
- 18:28>> [music]
- 18:29>> The moment you recognize it, the first
- 18:31thing to do obviously is prayer. I think
- 18:34that's the most obvious thing. Like if I
- 18:35didn't mention prayer, you should know
- 18:36that you should pray.
- 18:38Pray about it.
- 18:40Talk to God about immediately. God,
- 18:42[music] I am pained. And that requires a
- 18:45level of honesty. And many times we we
- 18:47like to pretend even with God. I'm
- 18:49speaking even from experience.
- 18:51I I was hurt about something and it took
- 18:52me a while to agree that I was hurt. I
- 18:55was like, "No, no, no, it's just it's
- 18:56just, you know, why would
- 18:59>> [music]
- 18:59>> That doesn't really make sense at all.
- 19:00That was not I did not I did not I did
- 19:01not I did not This and the thing was an
- 19:03ocean. Ha, it was deep.
- 19:05It was deep deep deep deep.
- 19:08But then I did not acknowledge it on
- 19:10time and I let it
- 19:12eat into my heart.
- 19:15So, my first [music] point of contact
- 19:16was to admit.
- 19:18And then I started with prayer. And this
- 19:20is also something that we see in
- 19:21scripture. We must pray
- 19:24>> [music]
- 19:24>> about everything. It is the way the
- 19:27righteous man lives. It's the way men
- 19:30live. Men ought always to pray and not
- 19:32to faint.
- 19:33Right? Mankind. [music]
- 19:35Ideal mankind should pray. So, first of
- 19:38all, you pray about it. Bring up the
- 19:40issue before the Lord. Speak to God
- 19:42about the person before you now speak to
- 19:43the person. The second thing is
- 19:45something that we usually run away from
- 19:47[music] and it is to seek resolution.
- 19:51Talk.
- 19:52Communicate. Like, [music] it's
- 19:54important to talk.
- 19:56And the point of talking to this person
- 19:58is not always just to rehash the things
- 20:00that were done to you [music] and tell
- 20:02them how much they've hurt you in a way
- 20:04that just puts them down. You know, the
- 20:07Bible calls us to live selflessly. So,
- 20:10>> [music]
- 20:10>> even in recounting the evils that the
- 20:13evil that someone has done to you to the
- 20:14person,
- 20:15>> [music]
- 20:15>> you're also not trying to be stone
- 20:16people. Like, I'm not trying to tell
- 20:18you, "Oh my god, you're so malicious.
- 20:20You're so manipulative." Even if I feel
- 20:23that way.
- 20:26Now, this may be a little bit
- 20:27controversial cuz some people are like,
- 20:28"You have to say it the way that you
- 20:30feel it." But that's why I said it
- 20:31should start with prayer [music]
- 20:32because
- 20:34with prayer, your flesh will be brought
- 20:36under subjection. So that anything that
- 20:38you are saying and everything that you
- 20:40are revealing, mhm?
- 20:43It is being filtered by the spirit of
- 20:45[music] God. Because in trying to seek
- 20:46closure, you can go on you can actually
- 20:48break someone. And let's be honest,
- 20:50sometimes it feels like it's very right,
- 20:52[music] you know? It's It's It's pepper
- 20:54for pepper. Like,
- 20:57You know how some people say, "If no be
- 20:59say I be Christian, even though that I'm
- 21:01a Christian,
- 21:03I will tell you something you would
- 21:04think about [music]
- 21:06even on your deathbed. Like, before you
- 21:08die, you will remember me, you know?
- 21:10[music] That was
- 21:12I've met many people like that and like
- 21:14I used to be that kind of person. Like
- 21:15my mouth is
- 21:17Oh, I thank the Lord that now he's doing
- 21:19life through it because
- 21:20>> [music]
- 21:20>> death also came through these very lips.
- 21:22So, it's important that in the cases
- 21:27where it is possible to have a
- 21:28conversation, have the conversation.
- 21:31Be honest. [music] This is what you did.
- 21:33This is what I don't like. This is how
- 21:35it hurt me. And I just thought to come
- 21:37and tell you. And you're not telling
- 21:38them just so that [music] they'll feel
- 21:39like they're bad people.
- 21:42Also, look at it as mercy, really.
- 21:44Sometimes people who offend us don't
- 21:45even know they offended us and they need
- 21:47to know that they did the offending. So,
- 21:48they're not causing you to do it to
- 21:49other people. It helps them to become
- 21:51better people if they take [music] it
- 21:52correctly. So, your responsibility is to
- 21:55have the conversation if it can be had.
- 21:56There are people you cannot have a
- 21:57conversation with cuz they're not even
- 21:59willing [music] to talk to you. And
- 22:00there are people that you have a
- 22:01conversation with and they'll tell you,
- 22:03"I don't really care." And even in that
- 22:04moment you must remember, this is a
- 22:06trap. This is a snare. [music]
- 22:09If someone causes you offense, it still
- 22:12takes you to decide to take the offense.
- 22:16If they give you something that you
- 22:17don't like, don't collect.
- 22:21How does the Bible recommend that we
- 22:23deal [music] with issues, especially
- 22:24when the people you're having issues
- 22:25with are believers like you?
- 22:27Let us read Matthew chapter 18, [music]
- 22:29a classic, a classic on what to do with
- 22:32offense. "And if your brother sin
- 22:34against you, go [music]
- 22:36show him his fault between thee and him
- 22:39alone. If he hear thee, thou has gained
- 22:42thy brother. But if he hear thee not,
- 22:46take with thee one or two more that at
- 22:49the mouth of two witnesses [music]
- 22:50or three, every word may be established.
- 22:54And if he refuse to hear, [music] tell
- 22:56it unto the church. And if he refuse to
- 22:59hear the church also, let [music] him be
- 23:01unto thee as the Gentile and publican.
- 23:05Did you hear that?
- 23:08When I saw this scripture for what it
- 23:10was, you know many times we are only
- 23:11looking for things that are deeper than
- 23:13deep in scriptures. But many times what
- 23:14the Bible says is actually what the
- 23:16Bible says, and that's what the Bible
- 23:17means. I didn't say no, what it says is
- 23:19actually what it means.
- 23:20>> [music]
- 23:20>> So, you're just trying to look between
- 23:22Here, there's no looking between the
- 23:23lines exactly. It's very clear. [music]
- 23:26If your brother offends you, somebody
- 23:28does something, the Bible says first
- 23:31go and the person.
- 23:34And I noticed that this is something
- 23:35that always causes offenses to become
- 23:38gossip, quarrels, to become divisions,
- 23:43to become things that they should not be
- 23:44even among brethren, is that you go and
- 23:47tell somebody.
- 23:49Yes, you go and tell another person. And
- 23:51whether you realize it or not, you are
- 23:52actually affecting [music] the
- 23:54reputation of another person before this
- 23:57other person.
- 23:59If you don't go [music] and speak to
- 24:00them first. I've had issues with people
- 24:02many times, and I just realized that I
- 24:05could have just spoken [music] to them
- 24:07first. But then I would have gone
- 24:08running to someone else like, "So, this
- 24:10person can you imagine what this person
- 24:11did to me?"
- 24:13Then, because my [music] friends too
- 24:14many times, you know how there are days
- 24:16when you don't have sense, and then your
- 24:17friends have more sense than you because
- 24:19[music] they have the spirit of God
- 24:21inside of them. And then they just go,
- 24:22"Have you spoken to that person?" And
- 24:24I'm like, [music]
- 24:25"Well,
- 24:26no, but and they're like, "Just go and
- 24:28speak Go and speak to the [music] person
- 24:30first."
- 24:31And then I realized that if I had just
- 24:33spoken to this person, [music] we would
- 24:34have settled our matters between
- 24:36ourselves, and nobody would have never
- 24:37known that this happened. And you feel
- 24:39bad because
- 24:40I know that the way [music] you speak to
- 24:43others about others affects the way that
- 24:45they see them.
- 24:47So, this is not something that I took to
- 24:48account very deeply.
- 24:52But I've been seeing this I've seen this
- 24:53scripture before, but then I didn't
- 24:54really take it very seriously.
- 24:56Speak to the person that offended you
- 24:59first. And in fact, if you must speak to
- 25:01another party, meaning because you don't
- 25:03know what to do, it [music] is
- 25:04preferable if it's someone that doesn't
- 25:06know them.
- 25:07This is just like my recommendation.
- 25:09It's not people It's not in the Bible,
- 25:11right? [music]
- 25:12But I I just think it's better. Someone
- 25:15whose view about them would not change.
- 25:17[music] If Okay, even if it's someone
- 25:18that knows them, let it be someone you
- 25:19trust that their view your their view
- 25:22about that the [music] person that
- 25:24offended you will not change because of
- 25:26the information you just shared. Are
- 25:27they able to handle that kind of
- 25:29information? So, don't just go around
- 25:32talking about people that hurt you. So,
- 25:33this is one of my first questions after
- 25:35[music] someone is giving me a gist
- 25:36about something that someone did to
- 25:37them. I'm like, "Have you spoken to
- 25:39them?
- 25:40Have you guys talked about it?"
- 25:42Because the the time that you spend
- 25:43avoiding the conversation creates
- 25:45[music] deeper rifts between you and the
- 25:49person.
- 25:50And the Bible says, "Behold what manner
- 25:53of love the Father had given unto us
- 25:55that we [music]
- 25:56should be called sons of God." No,
- 25:57that's not the scripture I'm looking at.
- 25:59That was the scripture I was trying to
- 26:00remember. There's a scripture. Ah, so
- 26:02here we is a song we used to sing as
- 26:04kids. [music]
- 26:05Something about how good and pleasant it
- 26:07is for brethren to dwell together. Yes.
- 26:09How good and pleasant it is for It is
- 26:11pleasant to the Lord. He likes to see us
- 26:14dwell in unity. [music]
- 26:16It is heartbreaking to see brethren have
- 26:18have rifts.
- 26:20Have rifts. So,
- 26:22talk to the person. That's what the
- 26:23Bible recommends. Go [music] and talk to
- 26:26the person. Gather the courage. Someone
- 26:29be like, "Oh, I'm so scared. What's he
- 26:31What's that you
- 26:32Do you [music] know what you're doing?
- 26:33This is war."
- 26:34This is war. You are making sure to not
- 26:36walk into the trap.
- 26:38And you're also making [music] sure to
- 26:39see if The Bible says that if you talk
- 26:41to the person and you guys settle, you
- 26:43have gained a brother. You've gained a
- 26:46brother. That [music] means the
- 26:47opposite. If you don't talk to the
- 26:49person and you people don't settle, you
- 26:50have lost one.
- 26:52I mean, sometimes we under estimate
- 26:54[music] the importance of the people
- 26:56that God has placed in our lives.
- 26:58So, if relationships are worth what they
- 27:00what you say that they are [music]
- 27:01worth, and if you see it from the lens
- 27:03of scripture and and from the way that
- 27:05God sees it,
- 27:06>> [music]
- 27:06>> then you know to not to let things fall
- 27:08through the cracks like that. The Bible
- 27:10says if you speak to the person, and the
- 27:11person say, "No, I'm not going to hear
- 27:13word." You take one or two people.
- 27:15[music] You bring in trusted friends.
- 27:17You bring in trusted authority. You can
- 27:19ask the both of you go and see trusted
- 27:20authority. You talk about it.
- 27:22>> [music]
- 27:23>> And if you take to your authority, and
- 27:24the person say, "No, I'm not hearing
- 27:27word." Do you know what you're going to
- 27:28do? You
- 27:29>> [music]
- 27:30>> You establish boundaries.
- 27:33You put boundaries.
- 27:34>> [music]
- 27:34>> You can forgive people and have
- 27:36boundaries. Yeah. Another way is to tame
- 27:38your curiosity for hearing everything.
- 27:42Itchy ears. [music]
- 27:43You want to know everything. You want to
- 27:45hear the entire gist. You want to know
- 27:46what's happening everywhere. Let me show
- 27:48you a scripture that I find very
- 27:50interesting.
- 27:51It's in Ecclesiastes chapter 7, verse 21
- 27:54to 22. Let me read [music] it. It says,
- 27:56"Also take not heed unto all words that
- 27:59are spoken, [music] lest you hear your
- 28:01servant curse you. For often time also
- 28:04your own heart knows that you yourself
- 28:06likewise has cursed others." Let's read
- 28:08this in another translation.
- 28:09>> [music]
- 28:10>> Says, "Do not pay attention to every
- 28:12word people say, or you may hear your
- 28:14servant cursing you.
- 28:15>> [music]
- 28:15>> For you know in your heart that many
- 28:17times you yourself have cursed others."
- 28:20Do not pay attention to every word.
- 28:23>> [music]
- 28:23>> Oh, what did they say about me? Oh, what
- 28:25did they Oh, it is Oh, that. Oh, I heard
- 28:28that they they did they did this.
- 28:30Especially Especially when you start to
- 28:32come into the limelight, you can't be
- 28:33following every gossip meal blog about
- 28:35you.
- 28:36You can't be looking out for all the
- 28:38[music] people who are trying to they
- 28:39gossip about you. That pains you. You
- 28:41know, in addition to talking things out,
- 28:43[music] there are things that we must
- 28:45learn to overlook. There's actually a
- 28:47place for overlooking I as a way to deal
- 28:50with offenses.
- 28:51>> [music]
- 28:52>> Do not make mountains out of molehills.
- 28:55Allow things to become minute before
- 28:57you. I Yeah, allow things to become
- 29:00minute. There are There are certain
- 29:02levels you must refuse to play at.
- 29:05Don't play Satan's game at that level.
- 29:07>> [music]
- 29:07>> You know, if you've been in an airplane
- 29:09before or you've just been in a high
- 29:11tower or something, when you look down,
- 29:13things that are normally big will become
- 29:14small. So, there is also place of
- 29:17growing. There There are places that you
- 29:19grow to, things that [music] would have
- 29:21normally act you normally offended you,
- 29:23normally cause you to be pained, and to
- 29:25think about something they just really
- 29:27mean nothing to you. So, sometimes the
- 29:29kind of things you're offended by also
- 29:30tell you where you are at in your
- 29:33growth. So, don't pay attention to every
- 29:35word people [music] say.
- 29:37People will say things, though. You Look
- 29:39at Jesus. Jesus was a perfect man, and
- 29:41he was crucified [music] by the very
- 29:42people that he came to save. And what
- 29:44did he say on that cross? Forgive them,
- 29:46for they do not know what they are
- 29:47doing. So, don't go about looking for
- 29:50[music]
- 29:50what is not lost. Another thing to do
- 29:52with offenses is to not be the person
- 29:55that [music] causes offenses for other
- 29:57people. This is important.
- 29:59Don't be victimized by someone else is
- 30:01stumbling.
- 30:02And by this I don't mean that you should
- 30:03shrink yourself. This doesn't mean
- 30:05walking on eggshells or living your life
- 30:07to constantly please people. I just
- 30:09don't want anybody to feel bad. I don't
- 30:10want anybody to hate me. I don't Too
- 30:13late.
- 30:13>> [music]
- 30:13>> Too late.
- 30:15You That's not something you get to
- 30:16choose. You don't get to decide for
- 30:19people how they will feel about you.
- 30:21Except you [music] want to micromanage
- 30:23people's perception of you. And that
- 30:25thing will just It will distort you. You
- 30:28become [music] a chameleon. You'll be
- 30:29taking different colors, different
- 30:31shapes in front of different people. You
- 30:33will turn into things that you have
- 30:34never imagined. Certain people's
- 30:37opinions of you can't.
- 30:39But, nobody's opinions of you should
- 30:42run your [music] life
- 30:44higher than the opinion of God about
- 30:47your life. So, when I say to not [music]
- 30:49be someone that causes offense, I don't
- 30:51mean dimming your light. I don't mean
- 30:53shrinking. I don't mean pretending. I
- 30:55don't mean lying.
- 30:56Does that look like one of the kind of
- 30:58thing that Jesus did?
- 30:59>> [music]
- 30:59>> Jesus Jesus went temple and flipped
- 31:02tables. Doesn't look like he was trying
- 31:04to be liked. [music] And that's the man
- 31:05we want to be like.
- 31:07Jesus flipped tables.
- 31:09Yeah, he He prepares a table before me
- 31:11in the presence of my enemies [music]
- 31:12and he also flips tables
- 31:14when the temples when the temple of God
- 31:15is being desecrated.
- 31:17So, this is not about intentionally I'm
- 31:19not again this [music] this clarity is
- 31:21unnecessary because many times you can
- 31:22say something and people hear something
- 31:24else. I also don't mean to go and
- 31:26intentionally [music]
- 31:27look for trouble. When I say do not be a
- 31:30stumbling block, it is to not be a
- 31:32stumbling Do not intentionally [music]
- 31:35You know what I'm talking about You know
- 31:36the things that can trip some people up.
- 31:39And you know that there's a way they
- 31:40will push you, you'll do the thing.
- 31:43So, you see that thing that your ability
- 31:45[music] to do that thing is something
- 31:47you must let go take away from you.
- 31:49Yes, we [music] must We must submit
- 31:52pounds of flesh every day. Carry We have
- 31:54to carry our crosses every day. I'm not
- 31:56saying this as someone who is flawless
- 31:59or someone who has never done any of
- 32:00these things. In fact, the reason I'm
- 32:02able to talk about these things with so
- 32:03much passion is because I've been in
- 32:05these very [music] shoes.
- 32:06I've been in these very shoes. I've had
- 32:08to learn these lessons the hard way and
- 32:10I've had to subject [music] my heart and
- 32:13my life to scripture and I see that all
- 32:15more.
- 32:16>> [laughter]
- 32:17>> Reminds me of this meme I saw where
- 32:19someone said [music] when you're reading
- 32:20the book of Proverbs and you can You
- 32:22just realize you're relating to the
- 32:24foolish man so much. So, pick your
- 32:27>> [music]
- 32:27>> battles. It's not everything that
- 32:29everybody says that you must react to.
- 32:32Allow yourself to grow. It's not
- 32:33everything [music] that you say present
- 32:34present stop to tell this. Present stop
- 32:36to you about Don't don't become that
- 32:38person.
- 32:40Yeah, because now I've said you should
- 32:43always seek resolution, go and
- 32:44communicate with the person. It is where
- 32:46necessary. There are things you can let
- 32:48go of.
- 32:49Yeah.
- 32:50>> [music]
- 32:50>> There are things you you won't respond
- 32:52to.
- 32:53And this is where the first thing I said
- 32:54is prayer, because when you run it
- 32:55through God, you know what is necessary
- 32:57or what is not. There are things I've
- 32:58prayed about after [music] I reacted and
- 33:01then I realized
- 33:03if I had prayed, I would have heard this
- 33:04come to the Holy [music] Spirit. Now, I
- 33:06didn't even ask him. I didn't even talk
- 33:07to him. It was
- 33:08Pam! As this thing was happening, I
- 33:10[music] was reacting cuz I was ready.
- 33:13So, let's go over it. And if you found
- 33:15that you're someone who has held an
- 33:16offense [music] even against all the
- 33:18nudges of the Lord, repent. Turn away
- 33:21from that life. It's no good.
- 33:24It's no good. There are people who
- 33:25[music] find a fault in everything.
- 33:27Don't become a faultfinder. It's no
- 33:29good. Overlook. Sometimes allow.
- 33:32Eh.
- 33:34This is not in any way at all. Let me
- 33:36make this very clear. This is not in any
- 33:38way [music] to say to condone toxicity
- 33:41or to condone things that are ruining
- 33:43your life in the name of being a loving
- 33:45[music] person. The Holy Spirit will
- 33:47never advise you to do that kind of
- 33:48thing. Mhm. Mhm. Mhm. He will never
- 33:52allow you to do that kind of thing.
- 33:53Process it in prayer.
- 33:55Pick your battles. It feels to be
- 33:57[music] an offensive person.
- 33:59And the only one who has the authority
- 34:01to to reap the root of bitterness and
- 34:04offense out of your own heart. Nobody
- 34:06can do it [music] for you. Not even this
- 34:08episode. What I hope that this episode
- 34:09does for you is that it pushes you to
- 34:11seek more light on this for yourself
- 34:13personally
- 34:14>> [music]
- 34:14>> and that it shows you the light of
- 34:16scripture as much as I've come to
- 34:17understand it. But this is not the end.
- 34:20Intention I want you to intentionally
- 34:23decide
- 34:25the kind of [music] person you want to
- 34:26be under the Lord. I want to be like
- 34:29Jesus. I want to be [music] like Jesus.
- 34:32Hebrews chapter 12, let's read it.
- 34:35Says, "Follow peace after Follow after
- 34:38peace with all men and [music] the
- 34:41sanctification without which no man
- 34:43shall see the Lord. Looking carefully
- 34:46lest there be any man that falleth short
- 34:49of the grace of God.
- 34:50>> [music]
- 34:50>> Lest any root of bitterness spring up
- 34:54trouble you
- 34:56>> [music]
- 34:56>> and thereby the many be defiled. Don't
- 34:59let the the root of bitterness spring
- 35:02up.
- 35:03It will trouble you and it will defile
- 35:05many. The Bible says. Follow after peace
- 35:08with all men. There's a scripture that
- 35:09says, "As much as is within you, be at
- 35:12peace with [music] all men." Team, if
- 35:14you do me, I do you back. Team, an eye
- 35:16for an eye. That was [music] real
- 35:18practice. We no longer do it. We don't
- 35:20do that here. I know that for some
- 35:22people this is a genuine struggle. It's
- 35:24not like they're trying to be those kind
- 35:26of people. It's that they've been those
- 35:28kind of people for such a long time that
- 35:30night is stronghold [music]
- 35:31and that is why we allow ourselves come
- 35:34under the scrutiny of the light of God.
- 35:36To come under the refining flames
- 35:37[music] of God. I really like how the
- 35:40apostles put it in the book of Acts. It
- 35:41says,
- 35:43"We we will give ourselves to the
- 35:45ministry of the word and prayer." It
- 35:48talks about an intentional act of
- 35:49carrying. It's [music] not like I carry
- 35:50myself. I'm going to put it there. Give
- 35:52yourself to the sanctifications. Give
- 35:55yourself to these things. Tell God,
- 35:56"God, there's a problem here.
- 35:58Look at my [music] heart.
- 35:59My heart is no good.
- 36:01Yes, it's only does something to me. I
- 36:02want them to suffer." Jesus speaking in
- 36:04[music] Matthew chapter 5, he says,
- 36:06"Your father Your heavenly father
- 36:08He makes the sun shine on the good and
- 36:10on the evil." He says, "Be like Be like
- 36:12him."
- 36:13If you greet only those that greet you,
- 36:14love only those that love you, what
- 36:16makes you different from the Pharisees?
- 36:17The Bible says. You know, there are
- 36:18parts of scripture that I used to just
- 36:20be very [music]
- 36:21I just like, "Why is this here?" I feel
- 36:24so convicted. I don't want to make this
- 36:26convicted like God calls us to be
- 36:28perfect.
- 36:30And what did he [music] refer to as
- 36:30being perfect? Loving like him in that
- 36:33in that scripture.
- 36:35Not being partial. So, strive to live
- 36:37[music] in peace with everybody and
- 36:39pursue that consecration and holiness
- 36:42without which no one will ever see God.
- 36:44>> [music]
- 36:45>> Exercise foresight. Be on the watch to
- 36:48look after one another to see that no
- 36:50one falls back from and [music] fails to
- 36:52secure God's grace. In order that no
- 36:55room of resentment,
- 36:58rancor,
- 36:59>> [music]
- 36:59>> bitterness, or hatred shoots forth and
- 37:01causes trouble and bitter torment and
- 37:04the many become contaminated and defiled
- 37:07[music] by it. Offense is very, very
- 37:09defiling. It will contaminate your oil,
- 37:11to contaminate your walk with God if you
- 37:13let it though, if you let it.
- 37:15But praise be to God.
- 37:16>> [music]
- 37:16>> Your pain does not scare God. It's not
- 37:18intimidating. It's not too big for him
- 37:19to handle. It's not too big for him to
- 37:21heal. Do you understand? It's not
- 37:23It's not bigger than he can stomach. So,
- 37:27don't let your life be all about [music]
- 37:28your pain. You know sometimes we just
- 37:30have to be honest with ourselves. We
- 37:31enjoy being the victim in the stories.
- 37:34We just really enjoy the attention
- 37:35[music]
- 37:36that comes with. Let go of it. And
- 37:38there's one of us angry at one time. And
- 37:40then the way this we just comes, you
- 37:41know how the way this we can be
- 37:42sometimes when [music] it's shining
- 37:43light on your heart. And then he goes,
- 37:47"Why are you still angry about this
- 37:48thing?" And I'm like, [music] "I don't
- 37:49know. I I want to let this go. I'm not I
- 37:51don't really like how I feel." And I was
- 37:53just saying things, you know.
- 37:54You know, I know it's not good to be
- 37:56offended. So, I know what [music] to say
- 37:57when I'm speaking to the Lord. I'm like,
- 37:58"God, I don't want to be offended."
- 38:00So, this we just It's beautiful because
- 38:03indeed no one knows our heart like him.
- 38:05>> [music]
- 38:05>> And he says, "No, you actually want to
- 38:07be angry. You want to be angry." That's
- 38:09why I get angry. So, why do we stop at
- 38:11your feelings are valid?
- 38:15Christian, don't let us all be swayed by
- 38:17sweet sounding talk.
- 38:20Our lives must be thoroughly [music]
- 38:22and strictly lived by the word of God.
- 38:25And I tell you it will always be called
- 38:27a counter-culture many of the times. 98%
- 38:30of the times we counter-cultural. So you
- 38:32you you find that some of the things
- 38:33you're even doing are so accepted by the
- 38:35people of the world. You may want to
- 38:36check again.
- 38:37You may really want to check again.
- 38:40So after the load on this podcast and I
- 38:42do [music] not want it to be longer than
- 38:43an hour. I feel like I can go on and on
- 38:46and on on this topic
- 38:47because I do not I want you to see
- 38:50[music] it. I want you to see it. I want
- 38:52you to see it. I want you to see it.
- 38:55Lastly, love [music] the Lord and his
- 38:58law.
- 38:59That's Psalm 119:165.
- 39:03That's the last scripture we're going to
- 39:04read before we pray.
- 39:06It says, [music]
- 39:07"Great peace have they who love your
- 39:10law. Nothing [music] shall offend them
- 39:13or make them stumble."
- 39:16This is it. Brothers and sisters,
- 39:19great peace
- 39:21is for those who love his law.
- 39:23Nothing shall offend them or make them
- 39:25stumble. [music]
- 39:27Nothing will entrap you. Nothing will
- 39:29keep you trapped if you love exalt the
- 39:32law of the Lord above the things that
- 39:34[music] you think are right. The things
- 39:36you think it should be. This is like at
- 39:39the zenith of antidotes.
- 39:42Love the Lord more than you love being
- 39:43right. Love the Lord more than you love
- 39:46being validated.
- 39:47>> [music]
- 39:47>> Love the Lord more than you love
- 39:48revenge.
- 39:50You are a child of God. Let it be
- 39:53obvious.
- 39:54And I'm not asking you to cover up
- 39:56things and and be false. Are you seeing
- 39:59what I'm saying? Do you see it? That we
- 40:01are truly what we [music] say we are
- 40:04even on the inside. That we are not
- 40:06liars.
- 40:07Let us pray.
- 40:09Dear Father,
- 40:10>> [music]
- 40:10>> I thank you.
- 40:12I thank you.
- 40:14I thank you for everyone listening to
- 40:15this right now.
- 40:16>> [music]
- 40:17>> I thank you for your child listening
- 40:19right now, who needs this
- 40:22particular episode [music] because it is
- 40:25what your season demands.
- 40:27I pray
- 40:29for them.
- 40:30And [music] I pray for everyone else who
- 40:32would ever listen to these episodes in
- 40:34the years and months and days to come.
- 40:35[music]
- 40:36Let God send forth in his word of
- 40:38healing even through this in the name of
- 40:41Jesus. Let your wounds be healed. Be
- 40:45[music] set free. Oh, child of God, be
- 40:48set free to live. Be no longer bound to
- 40:52the chains of unforgiveness and [music]
- 40:55bitterness and offense. In the name of
- 40:58Jesus, the scales are fallen off your
- 41:02eyes. In the name of Jesus, you see this
- 41:06for what it is.
- 41:09And I pray strength [music]
- 41:10for you. For some of you who need to
- 41:12have conversations, courage, courage,
- 41:15courage, courage in the name of Jesus.
- 41:20For those of you who need to let go,
- 41:21don't be bitter. I said there's no no
- 41:23the conversations will not work. Just
- 41:25let it go. [music] But you're just
- 41:27holding on to it because you don't even
- 41:29know how to let go of it. Tonight, the
- 41:31Lord sends you freedom. He sends you
- 41:36strength in the name of Jesus. Let your
- 41:40heart become lighter.
- 41:44For someone God is saying, [music] I saw
- 41:46everything.
- 41:47I saw everything.
- 41:50I heard everything.
- 41:52>> [music]
- 41:52>> Even the things you did not hear, I saw
- 41:54everything. I heard everything. But let
- 41:57it [music] go.
- 41:58And let me be the judge.
- 42:01And so for whoever that person is, I
- 42:02pray for you. Let it go.
- 42:06Let it [music] go right now even as I
- 42:08speak. May the love of Jesus wash over
- 42:12your
- 42:12>> [music]
- 42:13>> May the presence of God be mighty where
- 42:16you are. You would feel lighter. You
- 42:19would feel like something is being taken
- 42:21off your chest
- 42:22>> [music]
- 42:23>> and it would be deliverance of the Lord.
- 42:26Yes, because the Lord is that spirit and
- 42:28where the spirit of the Lord [music] is,
- 42:29there is liberty, liberty, liberty
- 42:34>> [music]
- 42:34>> in the name of Jesus. And I speak to the
- 42:38spirit of offense operating in anyone's
- 42:41life, making you constantly offensive,
- 42:43[music]
- 42:44making you see things that are minute
- 42:46and blowing it out of proportion. Allow
- 42:48[music] God's children be. Allow them
- 42:50be. Allow them be. Allow them be in the
- 42:54name of Jesus.
- 42:58Father,
- 43:00give us love.
- 43:02Help us to be like you.
- 43:04May we neither be stumbling blocks nor
- 43:08stumble
- 43:10when stumbling blocks come our way.
- 43:11[music] In the name of Jesus, help us
- 43:14that no root of bitterness would rise in
- 43:16our heart and defile us
- 43:19>> [music]
- 43:19>> and defile many others in the name of
- 43:21Jesus.
- 43:23Thank you, Father.
- 43:25Satan, the Lord rebuke you.
- 43:28Yes, the Lord [music] rebuke you.
- 43:30He rebukes you on this.
- 43:33Thank you, Father, for hearing us.
- 43:36For in Jesus' [music] name we pray.
- 43:38Amen. I strongly believe that this
- 43:41episode is going to bless you in no
- 43:43small way
- 43:43>> [music]
- 43:44>> and I do not think you should keep it to
- 43:45yourself. I think you should share this
- 43:47episode with many, as many people as you
- 43:50can [music]
- 43:51because this will bring so much
- 43:54deliverance so that people are able to
- 43:55live their lives free of the weight
- 43:58[music] of offense and bitterness. And
- 44:00as you do that, may God bless you.
- 44:02Meanwhile, I actually have an
- 44:03announcement. So, [music] we are
- 44:05beginning to trust God for surrender
- 44:07Abuja. Yes, surrender is a physical
- 44:10event of the rest podcast where we

- 44:47excited [music]
