  2. 0:28worldwide we're looking at approximately
  3. 0:31350 million people with diabetes there's
  4. 0:34no question that we're in the midst of a
  5. 0:36diabetes epidemic right now one in3
  6. 0:40Medicare dollars is spent in the care of
  7. 0:43people with diabetes one in 10 Total
  8. 0:46Healthcare dollars is spent on people
  9. 0:49with diabetes there's no question that
  10. 0:51this is a major problem and what in
  11. 0:54particular is the correlation with the
  12. 0:56diet and
  13. 0:57diabetes I'm I'm not going to get into
  14. 0:59that into diet
  15. 1:02[Music]
  16. 1:23no my name is Kip I'm a filmmaker from
  17. 1:26San Francisco and have a confession to
  18. 1:27make I'm a recovering hypochondriac like
  19. 1:30so many of us I have a family history of
  20. 1:32diabetes heart disease and cancer my dad
  21. 1:35had his first heart bypass at 49 his
  22. 1:37second at age 50 my Grandpa died young
  23. 1:39from diabetes complications and both my
  24. 1:42other grandpa and grandma died of cancer
  25. 1:44I was always paranoid that I would also
  26. 1:46get one of these diseases like any good
  27. 1:48hypochondriac WebMD symptoms checker was
  28. 1:51essentially my browser's homepage even
  29. 1:53in my teens I took Metamucil every day
  30. 1:55and a daily aspirin I read all the
  31. 1:57latest self- diagnosis books I ate every
  32. 1:59multiv vitamin I could get my hands on
  33. 2:01and I was obsessed with bodily functions
  34. 2:03I followed all the large health
  35. 2:05organizations recommendations for
  36. 2:06preventing disease I exercise regularly
  37. 2:09don't smoke don't drink soda get enough
  38. 2:11sleep reduce stress and grw up eating
  39. 2:13what I thought was a healthy diet until
  40. 2:16World Health Organization this morning
  41. 2:18has classified processed meat such as
  42. 2:20bacon and sausage as carcinogenic
  43. 2:23directly involved in causing cancer in
  44. 2:25humans processed meat is clearly linked
  45. 2:29to an increase cancer hot dogs or bacon
  46. 2:31could be just as dangerous as smoking
  47. 2:33cigarettes the World Health Organization
  48. 2:35had looked at over 800 studies from 10
  49. 2:38different countries finding a direct
  50. 2:40link to consuming processed meat and
  51. 2:42cancer just one serving of deli meats
  52. 2:45daily increases your risks of coloral
  53. 2:47cancer by
  54. 2:4918% I had no idea that what we ate
  55. 2:51affected cancer rates but I never felt
  56. 2:54like I had eaten a lot of processed
  57. 2:55Meats until I realized that processed
  58. 2:57meat includes hot dogs bacon SAU salami
  59. 3:00ham pepperoni cold cuts and Deli slices
  60. 3:03basically everything I grew up eating
  61. 3:05the World Health Organization classifies
  62. 3:07process meet as a group one carcinogen
  63. 3:10the same group as cigarettes Asbestos
  64. 3:13and plutonium and classifies red meat as
  65. 3:16a group two carcinogen was this like I
  66. 3:18had essentially been smoking my entire
  67. 3:21childhood if processed meats are labeled
  68. 3:24the same as cigarettes how is it even
  69. 3:26legal for kids to be eating this way I
  70. 3:29thought this was new information but
  71. 3:31many of these studies had been around
  72. 3:32for 50 years I couldn't believe I'd been
  73. 3:36eating processed Meats virtually my
  74. 3:38entire life and was just now finding out
  75. 3:41how dangerous they are why hadn't I been
  76. 3:43hearing about it from the American
  77. 3:45Cancer Society the largest cancer group
  78. 3:47in the nation when I went on their
  79. 3:49website I was shocked to see that none
  80. 3:51of this information was featured on
  81. 3:52their homepage but even more shocking on
  82. 3:55their eat healthy page they actually
  83. 3:58encouraged eating group one one
  84. 3:59carcinogenic foods like processed turkey
  85. 4:01and canned Meats this is after the World
  86. 4:04Health Organization reviewed over 800
  87. 4:06studies definitively linking processed
  88. 4:09meat to cancer thank you for calling
  89. 4:10your American Cancer Society my name is
  90. 4:13Sam I'm a cancer Information Specialist
  91. 4:15how going help you to that hi I was
  92. 4:16calling because I was wondering why you
  93. 4:18all recommend people to eat processed
  94. 4:20meat on your website which the World
  95. 4:22Health Organization is classified as a
  96. 4:24group one carcinogen which is in the
  97. 4:27same class as tobacco smoking Asbestos
  98. 4:30and
  99. 4:32plutonium this would be like a Lung
  100. 4:34Association having a how to roll your
  101. 4:36own cigarette section on their website
  102. 4:39it's kind of the same
  103. 4:40thing but let me just place you on a
  104. 4:43brief hold because um he wasn't able to
  105. 4:45answer my questions and said someone
  106. 4:47would get back with me I had always been
  107. 4:50concerned about cancer because both my
  108. 4:51Grandma and Grandpa died of cancer I
  109. 4:54wondered if things would have been
  110. 4:55different had they known the link
  111. 4:56between diet and this terrible disease
  112. 4:59in the US one out of every four deaths
  113. 5:01is from
  114. 5:03cancer oh sweet American Cancer Society
  115. 5:06rep confirmed an interview this
  116. 5:09week so we just went in for the
  117. 5:11interview with the American Cancer
  118. 5:13Society rep and the security guard said
  119. 5:15there's no interview scheduled so I went
  120. 5:17into my phone and it turns out last
  121. 5:19night after I told her that the
  122. 5:21interview is going to be about the
  123. 5:22correlation between Diet in cancer she
  124. 5:25said she could no longer do the
  125. 5:28interview after repeated emails asking
  126. 5:31why she was declining my interview to
  127. 5:33Simply talk about diet and cancer she
  128. 5:36stopped responding all together why
  129. 5:38would an American Cancer Society rep not
  130. 5:41want to talk about this I was however
  131. 5:44able to connect with a growing movement
  132. 5:45of doctors who are willing to talk about
  133. 5:47the link between the standard American
  134. 5:48diet and disease and it goes beyond just
  135. 5:51cancer I took my old trusty van super
  136. 5:53blue once again out on the road 2third
  137. 5:56of adults are now overweight to obese
  138. 5:58and we have an epidemic mic Cascade of
  139. 6:00debilitating disease that's overcoming
  140. 6:02the country there's no way we can
  141. 6:04sustain the current style of care with
  142. 6:06the epidemic that we're creating with
  143. 6:09our diet and lifestyle choices the
  144. 6:11diabetes the arthritis the heart disease
  145. 6:13the dementia the Obesity the cancers are
  146. 6:17affecting about 70% of deaths all the
  147. 6:19data is that those 70% of deaths and
  148. 6:22morbidity are largely lifestyle related
  149. 6:24and preventable most kids by age 10 in
  150. 6:28the US already have fatty streaks in
  151. 6:30their arteries the first stage of
  152. 6:31atherosclerosis leading to heart attacks
  153. 6:34Strokes here in American Medicine we
  154. 6:36operate from the disease model we are in
  155. 6:40the business of treating sick people we
  156. 6:42are not in the business of trying to
  157. 6:44prevent people from becoming sick when
  158. 6:46you look at chronic disease risk all the
  159. 6:48things that we walk around worrying
  160. 6:49about actually dietary choices Trump
  161. 6:52smoking when it comes to those risks if
  162. 6:55I could deliver one message to the
  163. 6:57researchers who are looking for the
  164. 6:58cause of of diabetes and the cause of
  165. 7:01clogged arteries and the cause of high
  166. 7:03blood pressure and the cause of obesity
  167. 7:05I would tell them the answers in three
  168. 7:07words it's the food it's what what
  169. 7:10Americans are eating today with 2third
  170. 7:12of Americans being overweight clearly
  171. 7:14there's a food issue in the next 25
  172. 7:17years one out of every three Americans
  173. 7:19will have
  174. 7:21diabetes my name is Michael abdala I'm
  175. 7:23from Atlanta Georgia and unfortunately I
  176. 7:27was diagnosed about 10 years ago with
  177. 7:28diabetes
  178. 7:30and 8 years ago I had two stance put in
  179. 7:33I don't know where to go I don't know
  180. 7:35what to do you just like out of options
  181. 7:37and you don't know what to do you're
  182. 7:38taking medicine you're listening to this
  183. 7:40doctor and the cardiologist says take
  184. 7:42this and the and the endocrinologist
  185. 7:45says take that then your general
  186. 7:47practitioner doctor says you don't know
  187. 7:48what's going on here and it's a it's a
  188. 7:51real it's a real challenging thing and
  189. 7:53it's something
  190. 7:54that you don't want to get it you just
  191. 7:57don't want to get it government in media
  192. 8:00almost exclusively blame lack of
  193. 8:01exercise in sugary Foods as a cause of
  194. 8:04diabetes but I wanted to talk with an
  195. 8:06actual expert on the role of diet and
  196. 8:07diabetes I went to speak with Premier
  197. 8:09physician diabetes expert and researcher
  198. 8:12Dr Neil Barnard what role does sugar
  199. 8:14play in causing
  200. 8:16diabetes drives me crazy diabetes is not
  201. 8:19and never was caused by eating a high
  202. 8:22carbohydrate diet and it's not caused by
  203. 8:24eating sugar the cause of diabetes is a
  204. 8:27diet that builds up the amount of fat in
  205. 8:29into the blood I'm talking about a
  206. 8:30typical meat-based animal-based diet you
  207. 8:33can look into the muscle cells of the
  208. 8:35human body and you find that they're
  209. 8:36building up tiny particles of fat that's
  210. 8:38causing insulin resistance what that
  211. 8:40means is the sugar that is naturally
  212. 8:43from the foods that you're eating can't
  213. 8:45get into the cells where it belongs it
  214. 8:46builds up in the blood and that's
  215. 8:48diabetes I had never heard that meat was
  216. 8:50associated with causing diabetes we had
  217. 8:52always been told that Sugar obesity
  218. 8:54caused it renowned weight loss bariatric
  219. 8:56surgeon Dr G Davis though agreed
  220. 8:58everyone thinks that they get diabetic
  221. 8:59because of carbs they did a huge study
  222. 9:01in that epic study 500,000 people carbs
  223. 9:04consumption was inversely related with
  224. 9:06diabetes in other words the more carbs
  225. 9:08someone ate the less diabetes they had
  226. 9:10but meat was strongly correlated get
  227. 9:12that aha moment the starches the carbs
  228. 9:14are good for you they're not bad for you
  229. 9:17this idea that carbs make you fat is
  230. 9:19utterly ridiculous carbs cannot make you
  231. 9:22fat in and of themselves we have storage
  232. 9:25in our muscles and in our liver for
  233. 9:27carbs called glycogen so when we eat car
  234. 9:29carbs we either store it or we burn it
  235. 9:31now eat fat that goes straight to your
  236. 9:33fat your body can't turn those carbs
  237. 9:35into fat unless you're really overdoing
  238. 9:38the calories now Bally it's a death
  239. 9:40sentence you're at much higher risk of
  240. 9:42getting cancer you're almost certainly
  241. 9:43going to get diabetes I mean no one
  242. 9:45wants the fat shame and we all want
  243. 9:46everybody to be comfortable with our
  244. 9:47bodies but this movement to be
  245. 9:48comfortable with our bodies has made us
  246. 9:50comfortable with being sick and that's a
  247. 9:52huge problem I go into the hospital and
  248. 9:54I look around me people on dialysis all
  249. 9:56these sick people and just about every
  250. 9:58disease in there is because of what
  251. 9:59people are eating here's the thing if I
  252. 10:01eat a sugary cookie the sugar lures you
  253. 10:04in like the Trojan Horse but waiting
  254. 10:07inside that cookie is a huge load of
  255. 10:09butter or shortening and that's what
  256. 10:11fattens you up and that's the part that
  257. 10:12leads to the diabetes it's the fatty
  258. 10:14foods not really so much the sugar it's
  259. 10:16not that sugar is good for you there's
  260. 10:17no nutrients in it it's excess calories
  261. 10:20but when you eat sugar you don't get
  262. 10:21inflammation right away when you eat
  263. 10:23sugar you're not getting plaques forming
  264. 10:25in your vessels when you're eating sugar
  265. 10:27your body's going to store most of it as
  266. 10:29glycogen or burn it as calories and so
  267. 10:32this focus on sugar has taken all the
  268. 10:34focus off meat Dairy eggs pork turkey
  269. 10:39chicken people need to understand you
  270. 10:41know if their child gets diabetes you've
  271. 10:44just taken 19 years off their lifespan
  272. 10:46we're talking life and death I realized
  273. 10:49there was so much more about diet and
  274. 10:51disease that I hadn't ever learned it
  275. 10:53felt as if this information had been
  276. 10:54practically withheld processed meat
  277. 10:56causes cancer sugar doesn't cause cause
  278. 10:59diabetes I had doubt about the claims
  279. 11:01these doctors are making so I did some
  280. 11:03searching on my own Harvard researchers
  281. 11:05looked at nine perspective studies
  282. 11:07finding that just one serving of
  283. 11:08processed meat per day increased risk of
  284. 11:10developing Diabetes by
  285. 11:1251% the link between eating meat and
  286. 11:15developing diabetes became undeniable
  287. 11:18but when I went on the leading diabetes
  288. 11:19organization's website the American
  289. 11:21Diabetes Association not only did they
  290. 11:23not have this information front and
  291. 11:25center they were featuring recipes for
  292. 11:27red and processed meat and on their
  293. 11:30recipes for healthy living they had
  294. 11:32bacon wrapped shrimp what the health all
  295. 11:36right send an email to American Diabetes
  296. 11:38Association see if they'll go back to us
  297. 11:40as destructive as diabetes is it pales
  298. 11:42in comparison to heart disease over 17
  299. 11:45million people die every year from
  300. 11:47cardiovascular disease it is the leading
  301. 11:49cause of death around the world nearly
  302. 11:52one out of every three people will die
  303. 11:54from this disease the amount of people
  304. 11:56who die from cardiovascular disease is
  305. 11:58is the equivalent of four jumbo jets
  306. 12:01crashing every single hour every single
  307. 12:04day every single
  308. 12:09year my name is Amy Resnik and I'm from
  309. 12:12Swamp Scott Massachusetts a little bit
  310. 12:14north of Boston and I recently went to
  311. 12:18my doctor for asthma because I had a
  312. 12:20very hard time breathing and while there
  313. 12:23she did some blood work and um one of
  314. 12:27the tests was um see reactive protein
  315. 12:30and on scale from there was a scale of 1
  316. 12:33to three one being low for cardiac event
  317. 12:36three being high for cardiac event and
  318. 12:38my number was
  319. 12:4010.82 what does that mean that means I
  320. 12:43am on the road for a heart attack and
  321. 12:45she said probably within the next 30
  322. 12:47days 30 days 30 days if I'm going the
  323. 12:51way I was going I take um this for my
  324. 12:55heart arhythmia um take this for pain
  325. 12:59uh oxycodone for pain and laasa Pam for
  326. 13:04stress uh cyc benser pain for our muscle
  327. 13:07relaxer also take topax and proac and I
  328. 13:11also use a cat machine to help me
  329. 13:13breathe and my asthma has been so bad um
  330. 13:16this past year I use it during the day
  331. 13:19as well um to get some air I am tired
  332. 13:24when I wake up I'm tired during the day
  333. 13:26I take a nap I'm still tired I can't
  334. 13:29breathe um and I know I need to make a
  335. 13:33change for my health or else I'm not
  336. 13:37going to be here for my
  337. 13:39family when we speak of heart disease I
  338. 13:42would say the role of alcohol is pretty
  339. 13:44small the role of sugar is very small
  340. 13:47too smoking is big but the good news is
  341. 13:50that most people have quit or or never
  342. 13:51did smoke the problem with animal-based
  343. 13:53diet its contribution to heart disease
  344. 13:55is huge and it is pervasive all this
  345. 13:58expensive
  346. 13:59Imaging
  347. 14:01procedures
  348. 14:03bypasses
  349. 14:04medication none of which has one
  350. 14:08solitary single thing to do with the
  351. 14:11causation of the illet so you die have a
  352. 14:13completely benign foodborn illness that
  353. 14:15never had its cation treated when we eat
  354. 14:18these kind of dead meat bacteria toxins
  355. 14:21within minutes you get this burst of
  356. 14:24inflammation within your system such
  357. 14:25that you basically paralyze your
  358. 14:27arteries you get this stiffening
  359. 14:28arteries their inability to relax
  360. 14:31normally in half so it's not like
  361. 14:33decades down the road eating unhealthy
  362. 14:35there'll be some damage no we're talking
  363. 14:36damage right then and there within
  364. 14:38minutes of it going into our mouth many
  365. 14:40people are given the diagnosis of
  366. 14:43Alzheimer's disease when it's not true
  367. 14:46Alzheimer's at all the vast majority of
  368. 14:48people suffer dementia due to their tiny
  369. 14:50blood vessels and their brain clogging
  370. 14:52up and their nerve cells being short
  371. 14:55Change of oxygenated blood and guess
  372. 14:56where that blood vessel venure comes
  373. 14:58from those little tiny arteries are
  374. 15:00clogging up from that steady stream of
  375. 15:02fat cholesterol Etc it's really quite
  376. 15:04clear from the standpoint of cancer and
  377. 15:06the standpoint of cardiovascular disease
  378. 15:08that animal protein plays an enormous
  379. 15:10role is chicken
  380. 15:12better it's a question whether you want
  381. 15:14to be shot or hung the flesh food that I
  382. 15:17would eliminate from the American diet
  383. 15:19would be poultry would be turkey and
  384. 15:21chicken a brilliant advertising
  385. 15:23campaigns convinced people that oh it's
  386. 15:25white meat it's healthier the leading
  387. 15:28source of sodium in the American diet
  388. 15:31for adult is chicken it can be labeled
  389. 15:34all natural chicken but be injected with
  390. 15:36the salt water I up to 800 milligrams of
  391. 15:38sodium heterocyclic amines are clear-cut
  392. 15:40carcinogens and they can form in any
  393. 15:43kind of meat as it's heated as it's
  394. 15:45cooked but by far the biggest source is
  395. 15:48chicken we sent researchers into fast
  396. 15:51food and family restaurants not only
  397. 15:53were there carcinogens in every single
  398. 15:55restaurant but we found them in every
  399. 15:57single chicken sample that we took if
  400. 16:00somebody brings their family in and
  401. 16:01they're buying a bucket of chicken
  402. 16:03nobody tells them that there are
  403. 16:04carcinogens if you're selling
  404. 16:06carcinogens to people you've got to warn
  405. 16:08them that they're in there but the
  406. 16:10American Cancer Society encourages
  407. 16:11people to switch from red and process
  408. 16:13meat to chicken why would the American
  409. 16:15Cancer Society tell people to switch
  410. 16:17from eating one carcinogenic food to
  411. 16:18another when a Harvard University study
  412. 16:20showed that men with prostate cancer who
  413. 16:22eat large amounts of chicken increase
  414. 16:24their risk of the disease progressing
  415. 16:26four times the number one dietary Source
  416. 16:28in America of cholesterol is chicken
  417. 16:30because of the volume of chicken you
  418. 16:32know chickens become grilled chicken and
  419. 16:34organic chicken it's it's machismo but
  420. 16:37it has nearly as much cholesterol per
  421. 16:39gram as red beef so just un sure volume
  422. 16:41it's the number one source yeah eggs
  423. 16:43being close behind I had never really
  424. 16:45thought about eggs much I just thought
  425. 16:46of them as a standard part of a healthy
  426. 16:48diet but then I found a study suggesting
  427. 16:51that eating just one egg a day can be as
  428. 16:53bad as smoking five cigarettes per day
  429. 16:55for life expectancy the Yoke of a hen is
  430. 16:59the most concentrated glom of saturated
  431. 17:02fat and cholesterol it is made to run a
  432. 17:04baby chicken for 21 days with no outside
  433. 17:07energy it is pure fat and cholesterol
  434. 17:09and when we put that into our
  435. 17:11bloodstream It Coats our red blood cells
  436. 17:13our blood gets thicker and more viscous
  437. 17:15it changes our hormone levels it raises
  438. 17:17our cholesterol levels there's nothing
  439. 17:19healthy about eating the Yol of the egg
  440. 17:21but I thought cholesterol and saturated
  441. 17:23fat wasn't an issue anymore you know
  442. 17:25these saturated fat studies that have
  443. 17:27come out trying to V IND at saturated
  444. 17:29fat this is a campaign by the dairy
  445. 17:30industry right number one source of
  446. 17:32saturated fat is dairy it's not meat
  447. 17:352008 the global dairy industry got
  448. 17:36together at a meeting and explicitly you
  449. 17:38read their agenda was to neutralize the
  450. 17:41negative impact of milk fat by
  451. 17:43regulators and medal professionals
  452. 17:45unquote so what did they do they funded
  453. 17:47studies the main study that started the
  454. 17:49whole saturated fat media craze was
  455. 17:51funded by the national Dairy Council the
  456. 17:53egg industry similarly funds studies
  457. 17:55that confuse consumers by making claims
  458. 17:57that eggs don't negative ly affect heart
  459. 17:59function that is only when compared to
  460. 18:01eating a McDonald's sausage McMuffin so
  461. 18:04what they're really saying is that
  462. 18:05eating eggs is just as bad as eating a
  463. 18:07McMuffin when you eat foods like beef or
  464. 18:11steak or a processed meat a hot dog
  465. 18:13you're not just getting saturated fat
  466. 18:14you're also getting other additional
  467. 18:16toxins that are in that food there's
  468. 18:18heem iron carcinogens processing
  469. 18:20chemicals this is all a lot more
  470. 18:22complicated than just looking at
  471. 18:23saturated fat you know the strategy is
  472. 18:26not on making their products any safe ER
  473. 18:29the strategy is to just try to confuse
  474. 18:31the public to introduce doubt you know
  475. 18:33there's a famous tobacco industry memo
  476. 18:35it's called doubt is our product that's
  477. 18:38all they had to do they didn't have to
  478. 18:39convince Americans that smoking was
  479. 18:41healthy right they just had to introduce
  480. 18:44doubt then they would win if there's
  481. 18:46just enough controversy people kind of
  482. 18:48throw up their hands I don't know what
  483. 18:50to eat confusion is their game I really
  484. 18:54don't think people thought what they ate
  485. 18:56led to heart disease they think oh it's
  486. 18:58just genetic my parents had it and I
  487. 18:59don't think people really think that
  488. 19:01what they ate led to diabetes I think oh
  489. 19:03my parents had it I was going to get it
  490. 19:04and certainly cancer they don't think
  491. 19:06that way people have bad Lifestyles that
  492. 19:08they've inherited environmentally
  493. 19:10they've been exposed to a certain way of
  494. 19:11eating and living that they've carried
  495. 19:13on into their adulthood passed on to
  496. 19:15their children that is why they go on to
  497. 19:18develop the same diseases that their
  498. 19:20parents and grandparents may have had
  499. 19:22before them but it is not inevitable
  500. 19:24even if you have a genetic
  501. 19:25predisposition doesn't mean it's going
  502. 19:27to necessarily matter manest and what
  503. 19:29determines whether it manifests or not
  504. 19:30maybe those epigenetic variables the
  505. 19:32things that you can control the
  506. 19:33environmental factors the dietary
  507. 19:35factors the lifestyle factors and we can
  508. 19:37actually change the expression of genes
  509. 19:39tumor suppressing genes tumor activating
  510. 19:41genes by what we eat what we put into
  511. 19:44our body so you know even if you've been
  512. 19:47dealt a bad genetic deck you can still
  513. 19:50reshuffle it with diet I had always
  514. 19:53thought that I would develop heart
  515. 19:54disease at a young age because both my
  516. 19:56dad and grandpa had heart attacks I was
  517. 19:58taught that they were genetic but the
  518. 19:59heart attacks probably had less to do
  519. 20:01with genes and more to do with their
  520. 20:02diets high in meat that's why when I
  521. 20:04went on the American heart association's
  522. 20:06heart healthy recipes page I could not
  523. 20:09believe they had an entire section on
  524. 20:11beef recipes this was just like the
  525. 20:13American Cancer Society encouraging
  526. 20:15eating group one carcinogens on their
  527. 20:17site meatloaf pork loin steak on your
  528. 20:22recipe list are you kidding me it's like
  529. 20:25this menu is trying to give people heart
  530. 20:26attacks your website we notice heart
  531. 20:28healthy recipes and we're uh kind of
  532. 20:31bewildered by why there's a bunch of
  533. 20:34recipes on a whole section on beef beef
  534. 20:38recipes and there's also a section on
  535. 20:40egg recipes when there's such a strong
  536. 20:42link between beef red meat and heart
  537. 20:47disease I I I honestly don't know
  538. 20:50because I don't do that I guess that's
  539. 20:51not what I do another organization rep
  540. 20:54that wasn't able to answer my questions
  541. 20:56but he said that he'd have someone get
  542. 20:57in touch shortly I was however able to
  543. 21:00talk to the president of the American
  544. 21:02College of Cardiology Dr Kim Williams so
  545. 21:05the American College of Cardiology is a
  546. 21:0747,000 member and growing uh
  547. 21:10organization with a dedicated mission to
  548. 21:12reduce heart disease and to improve
  549. 21:15patients lives and if you look at the
  550. 21:17incidence of hypertension and diabetes
  551. 21:19uh and mortality in men they they
  552. 21:22actually get reduced as you uh go higher
  553. 21:24and higher in terms of how much you
  554. 21:26restrict animal products what about fish
  555. 21:29so fish is a little different you've got
  556. 21:31the four worries which is
  557. 21:34pcbs mercury um saturated fat and
  558. 21:39cholesterol and the cholesterol is all
  559. 21:41over the place you can hit tuna in water
  560. 21:44that'll be almost less than a glass of
  561. 21:47milk to Salmon or tilapia Which is
  562. 21:51higher than a pork chop if you look
  563. 21:53objectively at fish what you find is
  564. 21:55they've become essentially Mercury
  565. 21:57sponges and that's why in many parts of
  566. 21:59the country they warn you you know don't
  567. 22:00have more than so many of these fish a
  568. 22:02week because it's getting too much
  569. 22:03mercury can kill you fish are eaten by
  570. 22:06bigger fish who eaten by bigger fish and
  571. 22:08these pesticides and herbicides
  572. 22:10bioaccumulate in the fish flesh and
  573. 22:12these big fish including the salmon
  574. 22:14which people think is the healthiest
  575. 22:15fish truth is the amount of pesticides
  576. 22:17and herbicides In the Flesh of these
  577. 22:19fish are shocking and they have
  578. 22:21estrogenic and cancer promoting
  579. 22:23properties in them they'll say well but
  580. 22:25don't sardines have less concentration
  581. 22:28of toxic waste product than other ones
  582. 22:30something being less toxic doesn't make
  583. 22:33it healthy it just makes it less toxic
  584. 22:35farmed fish is by no means healthier all
  585. 22:39the antibiotics that these animals have
  586. 22:41to be fed similar to chickens and
  587. 22:42turkeys kept in confin these fish get
  588. 22:45infections they get fungal infections
  589. 22:47they get bacterial infections you've got
  590. 22:48to feed them antifungals antibiotics and
  591. 22:51these subst accumulate in the fish flesh
  592. 22:53as well I always knew that pollution was
  593. 22:55bad for our health but I never thought
  594. 22:57about the Environmental bluten affecting
  595. 22:58food dioxins being the most toxic
  596. 23:01man-made chemicals known the science
  597. 23:03cause all sorts of things they cause
  598. 23:05endometriosis they cause cancers they
  599. 23:07cause endocrine disruption problems most
  600. 23:09of your exposure 93% of it comes from
  601. 23:12eating meat and dairy products because
  602. 23:14it climbs up in the food chain so
  603. 23:15effectively so you can get exposed to
  604. 23:17living near these incinerators and
  605. 23:19breathing it but it'll take you 14 years
  606. 23:21to breathe in as much dioxin as a cow
  607. 23:24will ingest by eating the grass in one
  608. 23:26day and that dioxin will accumulate in
  609. 23:28his fat which includes the milk and the
  610. 23:30meat and anyone eating meat or dairy
  611. 23:33products is going to get that dose of
  612. 23:35dioxin so it climbs up the food chain
  613. 23:37every step men have no way in their
  614. 23:39bodies to get rid of dioxins but women
  615. 23:42have two ways they're both involving
  616. 23:44having a baby one is that dioxin crosses
  617. 23:46the placenta into the growing infant and
  618. 23:48the other is that it comes out from the
  619. 23:50breast milk so if you have a meat and
  620. 23:52dairy consuming mother breastfeeding
  621. 23:54that infant then the highest impacts of
  622. 23:57toxic exposure sure like Mercury and
  623. 23:58dioxins will go to that infant pregnant
  624. 24:00women are told oh certain types of fish
  625. 24:02should be avoided but what about all
  626. 24:04these other animal products which are
  627. 24:07introducing imagine as the fetus is
  628. 24:09developing introducing these very
  629. 24:11harmful toxins which create reproductive
  630. 24:15abnormalities developmental problems and
  631. 24:17hormonal issues right as the child is
  632. 24:20developing the most critical stage of
  633. 24:21development it does make you worry when
  634. 24:23people say don't you want to have a
  635. 24:25little bit of milk because you're
  636. 24:26pregnant don't you want to have some cuz
  637. 24:28you're pregnant who do you think is
  638. 24:29going to get the chemicals that are in
  639. 24:30that all these environmental toxins and
  640. 24:33toxins from the feed that they're being
  641. 24:35fed accumulate in their tissues and are
  642. 24:37released into the mother and
  643. 24:39unfortunately to the child when you eat
  644. 24:41these products when you're pregnant so
  645. 24:44this includes
  646. 24:45antibiotics hormones steroids in animal
  647. 24:49feed commercial animals are largely fed
  648. 24:51GMO corn and soy which are very Laden
  649. 24:55and pesticides pcbs have been B since
  650. 24:58the 70s but they persist in the
  651. 25:00environment dioxins all these compounds
  652. 25:03can create hormonal
  653. 25:05reproductive developmental damage as
  654. 25:08well eating organic beef poultry pork or
  655. 25:12fish will not help you avoid
  656. 25:14contaminants like Mercury like dioxins
  657. 25:16like strontium 90 because they fall out
  658. 25:18over all sorts of farm fields and water
  659. 25:20bodies and they don't skip over the
  660. 25:22organic fields and so really the
  661. 25:24contaminants are coming in regardless of
  662. 25:26how these animals are
  663. 25:28I had always been concerned about the
  664. 25:29possible Health impacts of GMOs but then
  665. 25:32found out that most of the world's GMO
  666. 25:33crops are actually consumed by livestock
  667. 25:35with dairy cows consuming the most per
  668. 25:37animal this fact with everything I
  669. 25:39learned about bioaccumulation made Dairy
  670. 25:41terrifying especially considering how
  671. 25:43much cheese I ate in my life cheese is
  672. 25:45an amazing product when you think about
  673. 25:47it it's probably one of the single best
  674. 25:50foods at compromising Health that you're
  675. 25:53going to actually feed to people think
  676. 25:55about it you've got an animal product so
  677. 25:57you've got all all the issues of
  678. 25:59biological concentration you have a
  679. 26:01highly processed food product and not
  680. 26:04only does it have naturally a lot of
  681. 26:05saturated fat but you put a lot of salt
  682. 26:07into it there's a strong link between
  683. 26:09dairy foods and autoimmune diseases and
  684. 26:12so that can show itself up as excessive
  685. 26:15production of mucus and saivation of
  686. 26:17asthma in kids who are prone to that and
  687. 26:19even adults and also there's an
  688. 26:21association between dairy foods and
  689. 26:22multiple sclerosis and type 1 diabetes
  690. 26:25which is an autoimmune disease and and
  691. 26:28other uh rheumatologic problems cow's
  692. 26:30milk is baby calf growth fluid that's
  693. 26:34what the stuff is there's absolutely no
  694. 26:36child or human on earth who actually
  695. 26:38needs the milk of a cow any more than
  696. 26:40they need the milk of a giraffe or a
  697. 26:42mouse most people in the world are
  698. 26:45lactose and tolerant I mean that's the
  699. 26:46normal State of Affairs why would your
  700. 26:48body create this enzyme to digest
  701. 26:50lactose after weaning after infancy it
  702. 26:53doesn't make any sense 73% of
  703. 26:55African-Americans are lactose intolerant
  704. 26:58uh 95% of Asians uh roughly 70% of
  705. 27:02Native Americans and about 53% of uh
  706. 27:05Hispanic Americans are lactose
  707. 27:06intolerant our government is encouraging
  708. 27:09Americans of color to eat foods that it
  709. 27:11knows is going to make them ill
  710. 27:13ultimately what that boils down to is
  711. 27:14the government is telling me as an
  712. 27:16African-American to eat food that's
  713. 27:17going to make me ill for no health
  714. 27:18benefit so that it will benefit uh Dairy
  715. 27:21Farmers as a form of institutionalized
  716. 27:23racism yeah milk is a risky food for
  717. 27:26human consumption as a p nutrition I see
  718. 27:29on a daily basis children suffering from
  719. 27:32conditions that are linked or Associated
  720. 27:34to Dairy consumption such as eczema acne
  721. 27:38constipation acid reflux iron deficiency
  722. 27:42anemia cow me protein is the most
  723. 27:44allergenic food people say well no I
  724. 27:45want hormone free not injected with B
  725. 27:48Vine growth hormone but milk is this
  726. 27:51hormonal fluid so it's just packed with
  727. 27:54sex hormones and natural sex steroid
  728. 27:56hormones like estrogen progesterone in
  729. 27:58fact doesn't matter if it's conventional
  730. 28:00milk doesn't matter if it's organic milk
  731. 28:02milk without hormones it's an oxymoron
  732. 28:04organic Dairy has just as much saturated
  733. 28:07fat and cholesterol and galactose and
  734. 28:10all the things that you don't want as
  735. 28:12conventional Dair dairy products in
  736. 28:14general have a lot of other products
  737. 28:16associated with it not the least of
  738. 28:17which is pus I mean they actually have
  739. 28:19laws limiting how much pus you can
  740. 28:22actually have in a milk and still sell
  741. 28:23it I believe it's like 750,000 pus cells
  742. 28:26per CC because I mean you would want too
  743. 28:28much puss and it' be like pure puss
  744. 28:29people might object in fact you could
  745. 28:31think of cheese as kind of coagulated
  746. 28:33cow puss if you would but I was always
  747. 28:35told that we need milk for strong bones
  748. 28:38I'm Jane Chapman and not too long ago
  749. 28:41finally got some X-rays of the hips and
  750. 28:44back severe
  751. 28:46bilateral osteoarthritis of the hips and
  752. 28:49actually I'm scheduled for two hip
  753. 28:51replacements that's bone on bone it is
  754. 28:54the grinding of the joints my stability
  755. 28:58is scary I hold on to the walls if I'm
  756. 29:01at home I've been told to use a walker
  757. 29:04I'm only 61 this is not how you're
  758. 29:07supposed to live when you're this old I
  759. 29:09have a really hard time believing
  760. 29:13that that's all that's left researchers
  761. 29:17have studied bone development in kids
  762. 29:19and whether they get stress fractures
  763. 29:21and that kind of thing and the kids who
  764. 29:22drink the most milk have zero protection
  765. 29:24milk does not build strong bones Harvard
  766. 29:26research have looked at a large group of
  767. 29:29older women over an 18-year period the
  768. 29:31milk drinkers had zero protection from
  769. 29:34fractures so this old notion that
  770. 29:36somehow milk is going to build strong
  771. 29:37bones or protect your bones later in
  772. 29:39life it's a myth people that drink milk
  773. 29:42have higher rates of hip fractures have
  774. 29:44more cancer and live shorter lives it
  775. 29:47turns out that countries with the
  776. 29:49highest Dairy consumption also have the
  777. 29:50highest rates of osteoporosis so clearly
  778. 29:53drinking more milk doesn't protect your
  779. 29:54bones doing more research I found that
  780. 29:57da was linked to many different types of
  781. 29:59cancer as well just like many of us I
  782. 30:01thought that the majority of cancer was
  783. 30:02due to genes but only 5 to 10% of cancer
  784. 30:06is actually genetic any cancer is caused
  785. 30:09by a DNA mutation but that's not enough
  786. 30:11so that can cause that first cancer cell
  787. 30:13but one cancer cell never killed anyone
  788. 30:15two cancer cells never killed anyone but
  789. 30:17a billion cancer cells now we're running
  790. 30:19into problems so we need to reduce the
  791. 30:21growth factors in our body like igf1
  792. 30:23insulin like growth factor one is this
  793. 30:25cancer promoting growth hormone involved
  794. 30:27in every stage of cancer cell growth and
  795. 30:29spread and metastases any animal protein
  796. 30:33boosts the level of igf-1 Da products
  797. 30:36increases your risk for various forms of
  798. 30:38cancer especially those related to your
  799. 30:40hormones so breast cancer prostate
  800. 30:41cancer ovarian cancer so this is not a
  801. 30:44product even in its most pure State you
  802. 30:46want to be consuming because it does
  803. 30:48come with risk I found out that Dairy
  804. 30:49can increase a man's chance of getting
  805. 30:51prostate cancer by 34% and for women
  806. 30:54who've had breast cancer just one
  807. 30:55serving of whole Dairy a day can
  808. 30:57increase their chance of dying from the
  809. 30:59disease 49% and dying from anything
  810. 31:0264% why weren't breast cancer sites like
  811. 31:05Susan Gan warning everyone about
  812. 31:09this calling Susan Gan this is Jin how
  813. 31:12may I help you I said we're wondering
  814. 31:14why you don't have a huge warning about
  815. 31:16the dangers of consuming dairy in your
  816. 31:17website when there's a direct link to
  817. 31:19breast cancer it was a study published
  818. 31:21in the Journal of the National Cancer
  819. 31:23Institute that found out women consuming
  820. 31:25Dairy who has had breast cancer in Ines
  821. 31:27their risk of dying of breast cancer
  822. 31:2949% was wondering why it's not on your
  823. 31:34website you cannot answer these types of
  824. 31:36questions once again another Health
  825. 31:38Organization rep saying someone else
  826. 31:40would have to answer my question rather
  827. 31:42than Rising stood up again I went
  828. 31:43straight to the local Susan Gman chapter
  829. 31:45to see if they would answer my
  830. 31:52questions they didn't want to answer my
  831. 31:54questions in person either and told us
  832. 31:56to stop filming but promised they would
  833. 31:58connect me to the national office
  834. 32:02directly Susan gan's pink ribbon
  835. 32:04campaign had done a lot to raise
  836. 32:06awareness for breast cancer although it
  837. 32:08was confusing to see pink ribbons on
  838. 32:10dairy yogurt containers breast cancer
  839. 32:14can be prevented with a healthy diet and
  840. 32:16lifestyle but we're not we're talking
  841. 32:18about pink ribbons and putting all the
  842. 32:20money into research for the Cure I for
  843. 32:22one know that I would want my daughter
  844. 32:25my mother me I want to focus on not
  845. 32:27getting to that point and that's where I
  846. 32:29would like to see more energy and effort
  847. 32:31put I had been a hardcore cheeseaholic
  848. 32:34virtually my entire life despite the
  849. 32:36risks but like so many others I seem to
  850. 32:38have been addicted to it it turns out
  851. 32:41that the Kine Protein that's the main
  852. 32:43protein in dairy products and
  853. 32:45particularly in cheese it breaks apart
  854. 32:47in the human digestion to create what
  855. 32:49are called quom morphins cine derived
  856. 32:53morphine like compounds that go to the
  857. 32:55brain and they attach to the very same
  858. 32:57receptor that heroin attaches to don't
  859. 33:00get me wrong they're not as strong as
  860. 33:01that but they are strong enough to make
  861. 33:03you come back again and again and again
  862. 33:06despite the fact that you're gaining
  863. 33:07weight you're more unhealthy than you've
  864. 33:09ever been but that cheese just calls out
  865. 33:12to people case of Morphin uh may play a
  866. 33:14role in SIDS and sudden infant death
  867. 33:16syndrome may play a role in autism this
  868. 33:18is one of the reasons why we don't want
  869. 33:21infants drinking milk from cows human
  870. 33:24breast milk has 2.7 gram of casine per
  871. 33:27liter compared to 26 G per liter for
  872. 33:30cow's milk that's practically 10 times
  873. 33:33more no wonder it's so addictive this
  874. 33:35talk about addiction made me think about
  875. 33:37all the drugs animals are fed I went to
  876. 33:39the headquarters of the center for food
  877. 33:41and safety the nation's leading FDA
  878. 33:43government Watchdog group to see how
  879. 33:45concerned we need to be about drugs and
  880. 33:47our food so that we know of there are at
  881. 33:49least 450 different drugs that are
  882. 33:52administered to animals either alone or
  883. 33:53in combination these drugs are given to
  884. 33:56animals for for a variety of reasons
  885. 33:58very very few of which are actually
  886. 34:00beneficial to consumer health we've got
  887. 34:02drug companies that work real hard to
  888. 34:06make sure they can sell lots of drugs to
  889. 34:09people raising cows pigs and chickens
  890. 34:11the pharmaceutical industry sells 80% of
  891. 34:14all the antibiotics that it makes in the
  892. 34:15United States to animal agriculture
  893. 34:17antibiotic residues are found in meat
  894. 34:19other antimicrobials are found in meat
  895. 34:21there has been ractopamine found in meat
  896. 34:23there's been hormones found in meat so
  897. 34:25right there you're talking about four
  898. 34:26different drugs that could be you know
  899. 34:28in the same piece of meat the
  900. 34:30pharmaceutical company supposed to show
  901. 34:32the safety of animal drugs they're not
  902. 34:34really testing to see what the impacts
  903. 34:35of these drugs are on humans they're
  904. 34:37really looking to see what the impacts
  905. 34:38of these drugs are on animals you know
  906. 34:40when we try to get information on on
  907. 34:42some of the health studies and the
  908. 34:44Environmental Studies from federal
  909. 34:46agencies we get back page after page of
  910. 34:50blacked out information because the
  911. 34:53company claimed confidential business
  912. 34:56information consumers have no idea what
  913. 34:59is in the products that they consume so
  914. 35:02how sick something makes me and how bad
  915. 35:04it pollutes the environment is a secret
  916. 35:07for a company in the animal agriculture
  917. 35:09industry as in the tobacco industry
  918. 35:12these companies really have a vested
  919. 35:14interest in making sure that the public
  920. 35:15doesn't have information about their
  921. 35:18effects and what risks are really posed
  922. 35:20to consuming them have this system where
  923. 35:23animals are living in their own waste
  924. 35:25they're living next to animals that are
  925. 35:28sick or even dead and they're stuck in
  926. 35:30cages with these animals that bacteria
  927. 35:31tends to spread that the pathogens that
  928. 35:34are being created in these filthy
  929. 35:36conditions are breeding resistance to
  930. 35:37antibiotics and the public are becoming
  931. 35:39exposed to those we already have people
  932. 35:41dying from salmonella and other things
  933. 35:44that you eat we having about 3,000
  934. 35:46people die every year in the United
  935. 35:49States that's more than the number of
  936. 35:51people that were killed in 911 in the
  937. 35:55Twin Towers of New York if if we had
  938. 35:57some terrorist organization killing
  939. 35:593,000 people a year we would be all over
  940. 36:01it the antibotic resistant bacteria
  941. 36:05deaths that we have on top of that you
  942. 36:07get a 20,000 people dying a year that's
  943. 36:11seven 91s every year can you imagine if
  944. 36:17that many people were being killed by
  945. 36:19some terrorist group in the United
  946. 36:20States every year we would find them you
  947. 36:23know the World Health Organization has
  948. 36:25said we're nearing a post antibiotic
  949. 36:26care in medicine you'll be at risk in
  950. 36:28minor surgeries to have a fatal
  951. 36:30infection you'll be at risk going to the
  952. 36:32dentist if you have a tooth extracted or
  953. 36:34it'll be like Civil War medicine you get
  954. 36:36an infection in your leg and you cut
  955. 36:37your leg off so you have this very
  956. 36:39dangerous situation by crowding these
  957. 36:42animals in they become a perfect engine
  958. 36:45for generating a new flu virus that can
  959. 36:48come out into the community if you lived
  960. 36:50near a swine spray field not even the
  961. 36:53Keo but the waste disposal field you
  962. 36:56were three times more likely to have a
  963. 36:59MCA infection you can't see how it
  964. 37:03impacts the average person's life in
  965. 37:05dupan County North Carolina and not be a
  966. 37:07little upset about
  967. 37:10it from an environmental standpoint from
  968. 37:13a community standpoint from all other
  969. 37:15aspects North Carolina we're in a we're
  970. 37:17in a state of emergency we've already
  971. 37:18had bouts of swine flu or H1N1 as they
  972. 37:21prefer to refer to it that particular
  973. 37:23swine flu incident was uh originated on
  974. 37:26a farm here in North Carolina there's
  975. 37:29approximately the same number of hogs in
  976. 37:31North Carolina as there our people
  977. 37:32between 8 to 10 times the amount of
  978. 37:35feces is produced by a hog an adult hog
  979. 37:38as compared to an adult human 10 million
  980. 37:40pigs in North Carolina produce the waste
  981. 37:42equal to 100 million humans this is the
  982. 37:45equivalent of the entire us Eastern
  983. 37:48Seaboard flushing their toilets into
  984. 37:50North Carolina but there is no waste
  985. 37:51treatment the pig's waste falls through
  986. 37:53slats in the floors of the sheds they
  987. 37:55are forced to live in it is is then
  988. 37:56pumped into giant waste pits which leech
  989. 37:58into rivers and streams and is pumped
  990. 38:01out unfiltered onto Fields further
  991. 38:03polluting the environment and
  992. 38:04neighboring
  993. 38:05Health when you go back and you look at
  994. 38:08where these hog facilities are located
  995. 38:10there's a disproportionate number of
  996. 38:12them that are located near communities
  997. 38:14of color low-income communities it is
  998. 38:17definitely a human rights
  999. 38:19issue my sister she have Aspen and you
1000. 38:22know her brother he have Aspen he's
  1001. 38:25three
1002. 38:27and we don't know what she might
  1003. 38:29have I have Aspen I have Sinus I have
  1004. 38:33sadosa that's a the bacteria and I have
1005. 38:36a pacemaker which is six sinus syndrome
1006. 38:39but you know mostly everybody in this
1007. 38:42neighborhood got asthma or either cancer
1008. 38:45my neighbor there died from cancer
1009. 38:48probably just last year my nephew down
  1010. 38:50the street he's got cancer he's in
1011. 38:52terent cancer stage four not a smoker
1012. 38:55not a drinker and it's not in his lungs
1013. 38:58it's in his LMP noose but if you live
1014. 39:00here and saw the way they do you don't
  1015. 39:03eat no pork well I don't eat bacon
1016. 39:06because I know where it come from when
1017. 39:07they die they go into a box and they
1018. 39:10decompose because they swell ESP when
1019. 39:13heat a truck come and pick them up take
1020. 39:17them to the process planting rad here
1021. 39:20round them up into feed and feed it back
1022. 39:23to the Hawks if I come out this door if
1023. 39:25he spray yeah it's going to come in my
1024. 39:27face they hit you right in the face
1025. 39:29smell like something that you have never
1026. 39:30smelled before SM work on dead body it's
  1027. 39:34the family graveyard I have my
1028. 39:36grandmother out there my sisters my
1029. 39:39brothers when we go to the funeral he
1030. 39:41used to spray during the funeral during
1031. 39:43the funer yes during the funeral yeah he
1032. 39:47spray and when the people come everybody
1033. 39:50be closing their nose up saying how it's
1034. 39:52think they can want to have a cookout on
1035. 39:54Sunday here's pray do you think think he
1036. 39:56does it on purpose I think so cuz he
1037. 39:59just sprays Sunday he always sprays
1038. 40:01Sunday and in most of these area hog
1039. 40:04houses and Turkey House is in the black
1040. 40:07area or the Hispanic area it's either or
  1041. 40:11do you think it's also a civil rights
  1042. 40:13issue yes yes I do yes I
1043. 40:22do there have been times in the past
1044. 40:26that I have gotten ready on the suay got
1045. 40:29ready to go to church and come out and
1046. 40:31the smell was so strong that I had to go
1047. 40:35back and regroup because it got in my
  1048. 40:37clothes and I just couldn't go to church
1049. 40:40smelling like Hogs you know I just
1050. 40:42couldn't do it so I don't think that the
1051. 40:45government cares they care more
1052. 40:47about Corporation than do people
1053. 40:51individuals and they're going to keep on
1054. 40:52they're going to put more chickens in
1055. 40:54this state this is the feast season you
1056. 40:55and cap the world right here in North
  1057. 40:57Carolina my state look there's a blue
1058. 41:00line stream right here come into my
1059. 41:02property almost and the cony Creek right
1060. 41:04here I've seen that blue line stream now
1061. 41:06filled with feces and urine from that
1062. 41:08hog pin and they can say well we feed
  1063. 41:10the world they're not interested in
1064. 41:12feeding the world they interested in
1065. 41:13making money you take the money away
  1066. 41:14from it they'll let the folks
1067. 41:16starve cuz if you want to feed the world
1068. 41:18you can feed the world with more coin
1069. 41:20using corn and wheat and stuff like that
1070. 41:22and you can meat meat is a luxury item
1071. 41:24when we are doing things that hurt other
  1072. 41:26people people we're wrong but a lot of
1073. 41:29good people will sit there and eat bacon
  1074. 41:32knowing that it's causing someone else
  1075. 41:35to be very
1076. 41:38unhappy I woke up the next morning to
1077. 41:40find the buron river had experienced
1078. 41:42another massive fish kill from the
1079. 41:44pollution running off Hog Farms tens of
1080. 41:47thousands of fish were washing up on
1081. 41:49shore all this talk about health I
1082. 41:52realized that I was only focused on
1083. 41:53personal health but health started to
1084. 41:55mean so much more to me it was about
1085. 41:58health of my family and our communities
  1086. 42:00I couldn't under good conscious support
1087. 42:02an industry that I knew was harming
1088. 42:05others pollution from animal agriculture
1089. 42:08isn't just an issue in North Carolina
1090. 42:10though raising animals for food produces
1091. 42:12more greenhouse gases than the entire
  1092. 42:14Transportation sector it is a leading
1093. 42:16cause of rainforest destruction species
1094. 42:18Extinction ocean dead zones and
  1095. 42:20freshwater
  1096. 42:25consumption
  1097. 42:27American Diabetes Association actually
1098. 42:30finally got back and they agreed to an
1099. 42:33interview preparing for the American
  1100. 42:35Diabetes Association interview I took a
1101. 42:38look at their diabetes diet and meal
1102. 42:39plan recommendations and they were
1103. 42:41loaded with Foods associated with
1104. 42:43causing diabetes how could they expect
1105. 42:46people not to get diabetes if this was
  1106. 42:48the food they were
  1107. 42:49recommending and then I saw multiple
1108. 42:52peer-reviewed studies published on the
1109. 42:54National Institute of Health Website
  1110. 42:55showing that that a low-fat plant-based
1111. 42:57diet was more than twice as powerful at
1112. 42:59controlling and even reversing diabetes
1113. 43:02than the Ada recommended diet that
  1114. 43:03included meat and
1115. 43:05dairy the mission of the American
  1116. 43:08Diabetes
  1117. 43:09Association is to identify a prevention
1118. 43:14and a cure for diabetes but in the
1119. 43:17meantime to improve the lives of all
1120. 43:20people who are affected by
1121. 43:22diabetes and uh what's the best way to
1122. 43:25prevent to prevent this for type two
  1123. 43:28diabetes it's unclear we can't prevent
  1124. 43:32type 2 diabetes in everybody when we're
1125. 43:35doing a research we came across a lot of
1126. 43:37studies that said um that you actually
1127. 43:41could potentially cure reverse diabetes
  1128. 43:44with a purely plant-based diet I don't
  1129. 43:47believe there's sufficient evidence to
1130. 43:50demonstrate that how does it compare to
1131. 43:53the Ada diet that you recommend we don't
  1132. 43:56recommend a specific diet we recommend
1133. 43:59we recommend healthy eating the one
1134. 44:01that's on the website we recommend
1135. 44:03healthy eating there is do you have a
1136. 44:05whole uh you have a whole list of exact
1137. 44:08day-to-day the meal plan the whole meal
1138. 44:11plan all they are selections of foods to
1139. 44:14consider we do not have a DI diabetes
1140. 44:16diet but with with that selections that
1141. 44:18you consider that that plan compared to
  1142. 44:22an a plant-based plan no one's done that
1143. 44:25study we found actually some studies
  1144. 44:28that a 74- we study found that lowfat
1145. 44:30vegan diet versus the Ada plan in type I
  1146. 44:35think we're done here I'm not I'm not
1147. 44:37going to get into an argument about oh
1148. 44:39no I just one of the studies of uh the
1149. 44:41studies of if this is true if it shows
  1150. 44:44that if any Diet
1151. 44:48Works any Diet Works if people follow
  1152. 44:52it but if it's a diet that's not the
1153. 44:56proper diet like if anyone follows a
  1154. 44:58diet that they eat I I can't tell you
1155. 45:00what a proper diet is I can tell you
1156. 45:03what an improper diet is so then we can
1157. 45:07talk about the good diets I'm not sure
1158. 45:09why I'm I'm not going to get into that
1159. 45:11into diet no if if if that's if that's
1160. 45:15where you want to go with this I'm sorry
1161. 45:17I'm not the person that you should be
1162. 45:18talking to and why is that though if
1163. 45:21that's what you want to get into I'm not
1164. 45:22the person you need to be talking to who
1165. 45:24do we talk to about
1166. 45:26you can talk to anybody you want but
1167. 45:28that's interesting though why not
  1168. 45:30recommend a diet because the data don't
1169. 45:32exist to but if I've see we see data
1170. 45:34that we looked up that supports it with
1171. 45:37like you know the NIH the uh in Europe
  1172. 45:40the European
  1173. 45:43European we're done I'm sorry I'm not
1174. 45:46going to get into that argument with you
1175. 45:48not arent I'm not going to get into the
1176. 45:49argum why is there an argument that just
1177. 45:51talking about in European study of
1178. 45:54diabetes and other places that have
1179. 45:57studies why there are lots of studies
1180. 45:59why is it even an argument there are
1181. 46:01lots of studies in the literature many
1182. 46:04of which have never been
  1183. 46:06replicated
1184. 46:08or frankly are wrong that's why we do
1185. 46:11peer review okay the European
1186. 46:14Association of study of diabetes has
  1187. 46:17been period reviewed or I don't know
  1188. 46:19what study you're you're referring to
1189. 46:21and in the absence of being able to see
  1190. 46:23that study I'm not going to comment I
  1191. 46:25could show it to you I'm sorry I don't
  1192. 46:27have the time for that I just don't
  1193. 46:28understand why it's an argument though
  1194. 46:29or
1195. 46:38okay that was interesting what he wanted
1196. 46:41to talking about was people living
1197. 46:43longer with diabetes but once you
  1198. 46:45mention eliminating diabetes or
1199. 46:47prevention oh whoa now you cross the
1200. 46:49line prevention and cure whoa whoa let's
  1201. 46:52not go
1202. 46:54there not only did Dr Ratner the chief
1203. 46:57medical officer of the American Diabetes
1204. 46:59Association not want to talk about diet
1205. 47:01but the fact that he had such an
1206. 47:03emotional reaction to my question made
1207. 47:04it feel I was digging into something
  1208. 47:06that he didn't want uncovered I had
1209. 47:09always thought there was no prevention
  1210. 47:11for type 1 diabetes but then I did
1211. 47:13research and came across countless
1212. 47:15studies referencing the link between
1213. 47:16exposure to Dairy at a young age and
  1214. 47:18type 1 diabetes I mean this is a food
1215. 47:21made for baby cows cow milk protein gets
1216. 47:24into the bloodstream and the body says
1217. 47:25hey this isn't supposed to be in the
1218. 47:26bloodstream it makes antibodies to the
1219. 47:28calic protein which then attack the
1220. 47:30pancreas and destroy the pancreas how is
  1221. 47:33this possible that ADA wouldn't have
1222. 47:35this Forefront on their website why
1223. 47:36wouldn't they be warning all parents
1224. 47:38about this even if there were only a
1225. 47:39slight chance why would they
1226. 47:41recommending people to actually eat
1227. 47:43these Foods linked to diabetes it seemed
1228. 47:46all of the large health organizations
1229. 47:47were encouraging people to eat the very
  1230. 47:49Foods linked to the diseases they're
1231. 47:51supposed to be fighting against American
  1232. 47:53Heart Association promoting beef
1233. 47:55American can Society promoting processed
1234. 47:57meat pink ribbons on dairy products and
1235. 47:59bacon wrapped shrimp on American
  1236. 48:01Diabetes
1237. 48:02Association and then it all came
  1238. 48:05together what
  1239. 48:07[Music]
1240. 48:11if and there it was the American
1241. 48:14Diabetes Association was taking money
1242. 48:15from Danon one of the world's largest
1243. 48:17dairy yogurt producers craft Foods
1244. 48:19makers of velv processed cheese Oscar
  1245. 48:21Meyer processed Meats Lunchables
1246. 48:23processed kids meals and Bumblebee Foods
  1247. 48:25makers of less canned
1248. 48:30Meats American Cancer Society was taking
1249. 48:32money from Tyson one of the world's
1250. 48:34largest meat producers and yum brand
1251. 48:36owner of Pizza Hut KFC and Taco Bell
1252. 48:39Susan G colan was supposed to be
1253. 48:41fighting breast cancer was corporate
1254. 48:43partnering with KFC Deets Watson
1255. 48:45processed meats and yop play
1256. 48:47yogurt and the American Heart
1257. 48:49Association was probably the most
1258. 48:51disturbing of all taking hundreds of
1259. 48:53thousands of dollars from the beef
1260. 48:54industry p Tre and Dairy Producers and
1261. 48:57millions from fast food and processed
  1262. 48:59food
1263. 49:02manufacturers every single one of these
1264. 49:04organizations was taking money from meat
1265. 49:07and dairy companies that are associated
1266. 49:08with the causes of these diseases this
1267. 49:11would be like the American Lung
1268. 49:12Association taking money from the
1269. 49:14tobacco industry I was sick of not
1270. 49:17getting answers so I went to the
  1271. 49:19headquarters of these organizations
1272. 49:21myself we have to speak someone in
  1273. 49:23person there's millions of people dying
1274. 49:26from the foods that they are
1275. 49:27recommending people to eat I wanted to
1276. 49:30find out why Susan Gom had accepted $35
1277. 49:32million from yl when their products can
  1278. 49:35increase a woman's chance of dying from
  1279. 49:36breast cancer
1280. 49:3849% and ask American Cancer Society if
1281. 49:40taking money from KFC and Tyson was the
1282. 49:42reason they promote eating meat but
1283. 49:45every one of these organizations
  1284. 49:47declined to be
1285. 49:48interviewed what's really sad is that we
1286. 49:51cannot trust information from these
1287. 49:54leading health organizations like the
1288. 49:56American Heart Association the American
1289. 49:57Diabetes Association because they are
1290. 50:01taking money from the very Industries
1291. 50:02who are causing the problems that
1292. 50:04they're you know supposed to be helping
1293. 50:06to prevent so that makes the the truth
1294. 50:10something that you are not going to be
1295. 50:11hearing as far as nutrition goes uh from
1296. 50:14these organizations well that would be
1297. 50:15the end of their funding that would be
1298. 50:17the end of their jobs that would be
1299. 50:18lawsuits that they would bring the
1300. 50:20entire catastrophe down upon their heads
1301. 50:22and they would essentially disappear as
  1302. 50:23organizations this one time I got
1303. 50:25invited to a charity fundraiser for the
  1304. 50:28American Diabetes Association and I
1305. 50:30showed up and they had a whole buffet
1306. 50:32and it was all just animal products I
1307. 50:35remember like a big thing of barbecued
1308. 50:37chicken and and I was like I stormed out
1309. 50:40I said I said like serving chicken at a
1310. 50:45diabetes event is like serving alcohol
1311. 50:47at an AA meeting it just doesn't make
1312. 50:50sense we had scheduled to film an
  1313. 50:53interview with a prominent surgeon but
1314. 50:55but before we could get inside the
  1315. 50:56building the hospital's media relations
  1316. 50:58manager stopped us actually I understand
1317. 51:01that doct said that you could film here
  1318. 51:03today but unfortunately that's not going
1319. 51:05to be able to happen um I know that he
1320. 51:07advocates for patients changing their
1321. 51:09diets but the hospital makes money off
1322. 51:11these surgeries and the reality is he
1323. 51:13does too so uh we can't do anything
1324. 51:16that's going to negatively impact the
  1325. 51:17hospital so unfortunately you're not
1326. 51:19going to be able to fil here
  1327. 51:20[Music]
1328. 51:21today I was sickened by how open she was
1329. 51:24about the hosital hospital being more
  1330. 51:26interested in profits than People's
1331. 51:28Health but it wasn't just this hospital
1332. 51:31or these organizations even the US
1333. 51:33government is involved too every 5 years
1334. 51:36the US Department of Agriculture creates
1335. 51:37dietary guidelines for Americans the
1336. 51:39committee who writes these guidelines
1337. 51:41has been made up of individuals who have
  1338. 51:43received money from McDonald's the
1339. 51:44national Dairy Council the American Meat
1340. 51:46Institute the national Dairy board the
1341. 51:48national livestock and meat board the
1342. 51:49American egg board Dannon candy and
  1343. 51:51sugar companies Coca-Cola and anheiser
1344. 51:53just to name a few which which means we
1345. 51:55are getting our dietary recommendations
1346. 51:57from the very industries that are
1347. 51:58killing us and when they the USDA makes
1348. 52:02a pyramid or a power plate every 5 years
1349. 52:05for the American public they're going to
1350. 52:06guarantee that on that plate are going
1351. 52:08to be foods which when
1352. 52:10consumed will result in millions of
1353. 52:13Americans perishing the USDA which is
1354. 52:16supposed to be protecting us has two
1355. 52:18missions it's supposed to protect us and
1356. 52:20it's supposed to protect the producer
1357. 52:22and guess what when those two come ahead
1358. 52:24to head they usually choose the producer
1359. 52:26in internal documents uncovered by Dr
1360. 52:28Gregor the USDA admitted that eggs
1361. 52:30cannot legally be called nutritious
1362. 52:32lowfat part of a balanced diet low
  1363. 52:34calorie healthful healthy can't say it's
1364. 52:36good for you or even safe yet they still
1365. 52:39promote these products to the American
1366. 52:40people through Federal checkoff programs
1367. 52:43if you ask somebody if they've heard of
1368. 52:44a check off program the odds are they
1369. 52:46haven't although daily they are seeing
1370. 52:48the messaging that these programs
1371. 52:50produce so check off programs are
1372. 52:52responsible for the messages that we see
1373. 52:54on TV on the internet on bus Billboards
1374. 52:57and magazines that say things like milk
1375. 52:59it does a body good or milk life beef
1376. 53:02it's what's for dinner pork be inspired
1377. 53:05the Incredible Edible Egg the dairy
1378. 53:07check off program gave $12 million to
1379. 53:11Dominoes to just Market cheese heavy
1380. 53:13products and this is the USDA this is
1381. 53:15the government if you've seen those ads
1382. 53:17for the Pizza Hut pizza the stuffed
1383. 53:19crust or a pound of cheese those are all
1384. 53:22government advertising schemes for the
1385. 53:24industry how can we put more cheese on
1386. 53:27beef how can we put more milk in a
1387. 53:29coffee things like that to just drive
1388. 53:32consumption of these just unbelievably
  1389. 53:34unhealthful products so McDonald's for
1390. 53:37instance has six people staffed
1391. 53:39full-time according to records we found
1392. 53:42whose salaries are paid for by this
1393. 53:44government program but funded by the
1394. 53:47producers who are regulated by it and
1395. 53:49these six people sit there at McDonald's
1396. 53:51headquarters and just come up with
1397. 53:54ideas triple cheese Decker MC cheese
  1398. 53:58muffin stuffed bacon cheese
  1399. 54:03slider with extra
  1400. 54:06cheats you don't think of it on a
1401. 54:08day-to-day basis that these are
  1402. 54:10government programs the Wendy's bacon
  1403. 54:13double
  1404. 54:14cheeseburger government programs the
1405. 54:17steak fajita Dunkin Donuts government
1406. 54:20program you would just never think that
1407. 54:22this just pure garbage from a food
1408. 54:24stando point is coming from a ferally
1409. 54:27funded program that's one of the things
1410. 54:29that makes check offs so incredibly
1411. 54:31creepy is that it is our government
1412. 54:34telling us eat more beef drink more milk
1413. 54:36eat more cheese eat more pork one of the
1414. 54:39very effective ways that the dairy
1415. 54:40industry promotes its products is to
1416. 54:44reach children because kids are
  1417. 54:46impressionable they're going to be
1418. 54:48consumers for their entire lives and you
1419. 54:50might as well get them while they're
1420. 54:51young so Deary spends at least $50
  1421. 54:53million promoting a its products in
1422. 54:56public schools throughout the country
1423. 54:58with postard with people with milk
1424. 55:01mustaches and messages like milk it does
1425. 55:04a body good or milk life targeting young
1426. 55:07people right the tobacco industry had to
1427. 55:09keep replacing their customers who are
1428. 55:11dying with new customers meat industry
1429. 55:14knows they have to Target young people
1430. 55:16that's why we have these Foods in
  1431. 55:17schools and marketing messages at a
1432. 55:19younger and younger age for kids to get
1433. 55:20hooked on all the wrong kinds of foods
1434. 55:23so there's all kinds of parallels school
1435. 55:25districts where processed meats are all
1436. 55:27over the place maybe it's going to be
1437. 55:29bacon on the menu sausage hot dogs or
1438. 55:32pepperoni pizza any of those things are
1439. 55:33processed meats and those are pretty
1440. 55:35much the worst of the worst with a
1441. 55:37direct link to colon cancer mean and yet
1442. 55:39you have every day in the schools meal
1443. 55:41items with processed Meats if the
1444. 55:43Surgeon General puts warning labels on
1445. 55:45Tobacco because of their cancer risk why
1446. 55:47aren't the same warning labels on
1447. 55:50meat based on the publicly available
1448. 55:53data we know they spend at least 500
1449. 55:54$157 million promoting their goods
1450. 55:57through check off programs we know that
  1451. 55:59they spend at least $138 million
1452. 56:02lobbying Congress we expect that they
1453. 56:04spend a good deal more than that that in
  1454. 56:06figures that simply aren't publicly
  1455. 56:07disclosed the industry's lobbying power
1456. 56:09is so strong that they can create laws
1457. 56:11and push through legislation that
1458. 56:13doesn't benefit Americans in any way
1459. 56:15such as AG gag laws that criminalize
  1460. 56:17whistleblowing or photographing abuses
1461. 56:19by this industry activists in the US can
1462. 56:21be charged as terrorists for disrupting
1463. 56:23the profits of any business that you
1464. 56:24uses animals under the animal Enterprise
1465. 56:26terrorism act to the even more
  1466. 56:28ridiculous ones like cheeseburger laws a
  1467. 56:32cheeseburger law is a law that says a
  1468. 56:34plaintiff cannot recover against a
1469. 56:36manufacturer distributor retailer on the
1470. 56:38theory that the food made the plaintiff
1471. 56:40obese or caused an obesity related
  1472. 56:44disease cheeseburger laws are a direct
1473. 56:46response to a problem that the tobacco
1474. 56:50industry has had big tobacco has paid
1475. 56:52$400 billion to State Medicaid Program
  1476. 56:54programs cheeseburger laws proponents
1477. 56:57say we don't want to see the same kind
1478. 56:59of thing happen to the meat and dairy
1479. 57:00Industries the fact that these laws are
1480. 57:02based on a Model template called The
1481. 57:04Common Sense consumption Act is actually
  1482. 57:07ironic because what they're saying is
1483. 57:09you the consumer should have the common
1484. 57:11sense to know that our food is bad for
  1485. 57:13you I've often typified the meat
  1486. 57:16industry to people who maybe don't
1487. 57:19understand its power and reach as it's
1488. 57:21got all the money of big tobacco and big
1489. 57:24Pharma and it has the personality of the
  1490. 57:26National Rifle
1491. 57:27Association so any any little thing that
1492. 57:31comes up man they they beat it to death
  1493. 57:34Robert Martin wasn't exaggerating when
1494. 57:36the profits of the egg industry were
1495. 57:37threatened by egg alternative company
1496. 57:39Hampton Creek Foods extremely disturbing
1497. 57:42emails were uncovered by Ryan Shapiro
1498. 57:44and Jeffrey light we uncover documents
1499. 57:46demonstrating the American egg board
  1500. 57:48considers Hampton Creek quote a crisis
1501. 57:50and major threat to the future of the
1502. 57:53American egg industry the American
  1503. 57:54eggboard considers a successful egg
1504. 57:56replacer company to be such a threat
1505. 57:59that they joke on their government email
1506. 58:01addresses about murdering the CEO in
1507. 58:04internal government emails with the
1508. 58:06heads of the egg industry they suggest
1509. 58:08having the CEO of Hampton Creek Josh
  1510. 58:10tetric murdered including a menacing
1511. 58:13email from the executive director of the
  1512. 58:15American egg
1513. 58:21board the meat producers don't have to
1514. 58:24pay for the heart disease or the
1515. 58:26environmental destruction or any of the
1516. 58:28other um externalities as economists
1517. 58:31call them that their products cause you
  1518. 58:35know then there's the whole
1519. 58:36pharmaceutical aspect of it and the fact
  1520. 58:38that there's a very strong
1521. 58:39pharmaceutical industry and Lobby that
1522. 58:41has a huge stake in preserving the
1523. 58:43status quo and these chronic diseases
1524. 58:45these are the cash cows of the
  1525. 58:47pharmaceutical industry you have A5
1526. 58:49billion stent industry do they ever want
  1527. 58:51to see that go away we've got a $35
1528. 58:53billion St stattin drug industry do they
1529. 58:56ever want to see that go away I'm
  1530. 58:57talking about the pharmaceutical
  1531. 58:58industry effectively controls what
1532. 59:00doctors are told most research isn't put
  1533. 59:03into prevention it's put into the
1534. 59:05medication that we might use for that
  1535. 59:07particular disease I'm on two different
1536. 59:11high blood pressure medicines six asthma
1537. 59:14type medicines even after four years of
1538. 59:18shots and then another medicine to help
1539. 59:20take care of side effects from some of
  1540. 59:22those medicines I'm on on highle
  1541. 59:26anti-depressants a couple of different
1542. 59:29pain meds for my back and hips I'm
1543. 59:31taking about 16 drugs not counting the
  1544. 59:35insulin in the morning I I take insulin
  1545. 59:38morning insulin night you know 32 to 34
1546. 59:41units uh of insulin lantis to be exact
1547. 59:46some of these meds are for diabetes this
1548. 59:49is for peeing I have to use this for my
1549. 59:52prostrate and then I have to use this
1550. 59:54this for the heart and I have to use
1551. 59:57this for blood pressure and and it's
1552. 59:59just on and on and on and on the doctors
1553. 1:00:03are telling me this is what I got to do
1554. 1:00:04for my whole life and it's frustrating
  1555. 1:00:07and it's very stressful and I I don't
1556. 1:00:10know how long my liver is going to last
1557. 1:00:11taking all this stuff under conventional
1558. 1:00:13medical treatment whether it be for
1559. 1:00:15autoimmune disease or even conditions
1560. 1:00:17like high blood pressure or diabetes
1561. 1:00:19you're told that you have to take drugs
1562. 1:00:22and not just for a week or a month or
1563. 1:00:24year you're told you have to take drugs
  1564. 1:00:27forever you're guaranteed that if you
  1565. 1:00:29follow your doctor's advice you'll be
  1566. 1:00:31sick forever you'll never get well
1567. 1:00:34that's the guarantee because the
1568. 1:00:36strategies are all about manipulating
1569. 1:00:39the symptoms not dealing with the
1570. 1:00:41underlying cause you come in with that
1571. 1:00:42diagnosis you get a bunch of pills that
1572. 1:00:44have nothing to do with the disease
1573. 1:00:46causation or you get these procedures
1574. 1:00:48that have nothing to do with disease
  1575. 1:00:50causation it's a deception to say this
1576. 1:00:52pill will help you unclog your artery
1577. 1:00:54this one will save you from a stroke no
1578. 1:00:56it doesn't the people who take the STS
1579. 1:00:58Etc they still get their heart attacks
1580. 1:01:00they still get their strokes this is not
1581. 1:01:02reverse disease this does not make
1582. 1:01:03plaques smaller this is a fraud of
1583. 1:01:06massive proportions in the US treating
1584. 1:01:09chronic disease such as heart disease
  1585. 1:01:10cancer and diabetes is a $ 1.5 trillion
  1586. 1:01:14industry that's the GDP equivalent of
  1587. 1:01:17the 10th richest country in the world I
1588. 1:01:20went back and dug deeper into the health
1589. 1:01:22organization's funding and there it was
1590. 1:01:24again again these organizations were
1591. 1:01:26accepting millions of dollars from
1592. 1:01:28pharmaceutical companies that are making
1593. 1:01:30billions of dollars from the very same
1594. 1:01:32diseases these Health groups are
1595. 1:01:33supposedly trying to end it seemed like
1596. 1:01:36a major conflict of interest unless
  1597. 1:01:38ending these diseases isn't really the
1598. 1:01:40goal the pharmaceutical industry spends
1599. 1:01:42more money on lobbying than any other
1600. 1:01:44single industry just like animal
1601. 1:01:46agriculture they are so powerful they
1602. 1:01:47write their own laws that have had
1603. 1:01:49activists in prison to silence them
1604. 1:01:51government's in bed with anyone that
1605. 1:01:52gives them the most money which is the
1606. 1:01:54pharmaceutical industry which is the
1607. 1:01:56animal egg industry is like they are
1608. 1:01:58pumping the government full of money and
  1609. 1:02:00resources and in return the government's
1610. 1:02:01giving them what they want subsidies
1611. 1:02:03imprisoning activists that go against
  1612. 1:02:06them and I think it's quite telling that
1613. 1:02:07these industries are working so hard and
1614. 1:02:10spending so much money to criminalize
1615. 1:02:13people for simply taking a picture for
  1616. 1:02:15simply recording what's going on inside
1617. 1:02:17of these facilities and making it known
  1618. 1:02:19to the public they're behind walls
  1619. 1:02:21they're underground they're in these
1620. 1:02:22secret facilities that no one knows
1621. 1:02:25about but if they did they would be
1622. 1:02:26shocked and outraged and I think people
1623. 1:02:28would not want to think that that
1624. 1:02:30they're Pharmaceuticals that their food
1625. 1:02:32are coming from these places and that's
1626. 1:02:33why I think it's such the agag laws are
1627. 1:02:36what they are is because they are trying
1628. 1:02:37to silence people into not speaking out
1629. 1:02:40and not showing the truth I finally
1630. 1:02:42realized how deep the collusion truly is
1631. 1:02:44between government and these industries
1632. 1:02:46and how dangerous it could be to expose
1633. 1:02:48them these concerns intensified after
1634. 1:02:50meeting the USDA whistleblower who
1635. 1:02:52revealed mad cow disease in the US meets
1636. 1:02:54Supply uh USDA operates like the
1637. 1:02:56military so when I got on TV and that
1638. 1:02:58right away USDA sent out memos to all
1639. 1:03:00the veterinarians and food inspectors if
1640. 1:03:02anybody from the media ever contacts you
1641. 1:03:04do not talk to them refer them to
1642. 1:03:07Washington DC and we will talk to them
1643. 1:03:10so right away shut up everybody American
1644. 1:03:12public should very very concerned about
1645. 1:03:14this what's going on with USDA here in
1646. 1:03:17the United States we have at least four
  1647. 1:03:20cases of M Cal disease but I'm almost
  1648. 1:03:22positive there's more cases than that
1649. 1:03:24but the government isn't looking for it
1650. 1:03:25what you're saying is that there could
1651. 1:03:26be already mad cow disease and in humans
  1652. 1:03:29right I think a lot of it was
  1653. 1:03:31misdiagnosed with the Alzheimer's or
1654. 1:03:33dementia it takes several years you see
1655. 1:03:35the progression but to make it easier
1656. 1:03:37these doctors just sign off on as
  1657. 1:03:38Dementia or Alzheimer's without actually
1658. 1:03:41taking a biopsy to the brain to see if
1659. 1:03:42it's that or is it actually a preon
1660. 1:03:45disease like cruo yaka disease or miral
1661. 1:03:48disease do you think it's safe to eat
  1662. 1:03:50meat I personally don't think it's safe
1663. 1:03:53to eat it because of the fact
1664. 1:03:54how the line speeds are increasing and
1665. 1:03:57also our inspectors are not well trained
1666. 1:03:59enough at the present time the line
1667. 1:04:01speed now is going about 220 Cals an
1668. 1:04:03hour that gives you about somewhere
  1669. 1:04:05around 4 Cals per minute so that's 15
1670. 1:04:08seconds per cow these dangerous
1671. 1:04:11Slaughter speeds means that animal waste
1672. 1:04:13ends up everywhere testing shows 88% of
1673. 1:04:16pork chops are contaminated with feal
  1674. 1:04:18bacteria 90% of ground beef and 95% of
1675. 1:04:21chicken breast sample contain animal
1676. 1:04:23waste bacteria IA there is nothing clean
1677. 1:04:26about eating this way but it just isn't
  1678. 1:04:28waste it's also pus filled infections
1679. 1:04:32you can see there's a bump or some kind
1680. 1:04:33of absess underneath the hide most of
1681. 1:04:36the time when the hide's pulled off
1682. 1:04:39either that will open up the absess and
1683. 1:04:41the puss will come out or if it's deep
1684. 1:04:43seated when inspectors are doing their
1685. 1:04:45work or the company employees they might
1686. 1:04:47stick their knife into an absess and it
  1687. 1:04:50explodes all over the
  1688. 1:04:52place I had heard enough I was utterly
1689. 1:04:55disgusted by the corruption the greed
1690. 1:04:57the disease and the abuse I was learning
1691. 1:04:59about the very animals we were killing
1692. 1:05:01were killing us and the planet but so
1693. 1:05:04many people eat meat and dairy every day
1694. 1:05:06of their lives and we are so concerned
1695. 1:05:08about getting enough protein do we have
1696. 1:05:10to eat meat to get complete protein oh
1697. 1:05:13my God oh my God you want me to jump off
1698. 1:05:16this Bell don't you well first of all
1699. 1:05:19all protein is made by plants I'll state
1700. 1:05:23that again for the record all protein is
1701. 1:05:25initially made by plants all of it and
1702. 1:05:28it is not necessary to eat animal tissue
1703. 1:05:31in order to get protein only plants have
1704. 1:05:35the ability to actually take nitrogen
1705. 1:05:37from the air break those molecules apart
1706. 1:05:40and incorporate that nitrogen into amino
1707. 1:05:42acids and then make protein any protein
1708. 1:05:45you get from an animal is simply
1709. 1:05:46recycled plant protein if you ate a diet
1710. 1:05:49that was calorically adequate and even
1711. 1:05:51things like brown rice and broccoli and
1712. 1:05:53you got enough of it it you'd get enough
1713. 1:05:55both quantity and quality of protein
1714. 1:05:572,000 calories of brown rice and
1715. 1:05:58broccoli is going to be about 80 gram of
  1716. 1:06:00protein a day including the essential
1717. 1:06:02amino acids that you need in order to
  1718. 1:06:04maintain Optimum Health I mean grains
1719. 1:06:06are loaded with protein beans are loaded
1720. 1:06:09with protein vegetables are loaded with
1721. 1:06:11protein you really want to get your
1722. 1:06:14protein from Plants because plant
  1723. 1:06:16proteins have a much more beneficial
1724. 1:06:18effect on our physiology the funny thing
1725. 1:06:20about protein is most Americans get
1726. 1:06:22about twice the amount they need
1727. 1:06:24most Americans get less than half the
1728. 1:06:26amount of fiber they need but the
1729. 1:06:28conversation tends to always be about
1730. 1:06:29protein so in my mind it's just this
1731. 1:06:32magical marketing campaign that protein
1732. 1:06:34has taken on over the decades the
1733. 1:06:36question is not where do you get your
1734. 1:06:37protein it's where do you get your fiber
1735. 1:06:39I have never in my professional career
  1736. 1:06:41seen a protein deficiency I've never
1737. 1:06:43seen someone come in eating normal
  1738. 1:06:44amounts of calories and they're protein
1739. 1:06:46deficient you just don't see that so
1740. 1:06:49human milk has the lowest protein
1741. 1:06:51content ever in any species ever ever
  1742. 1:06:54tested I mean that's the fluid that's
1743. 1:06:56been designed by Evolution over millions
1744. 1:06:58of years and that's just like the
1745. 1:07:00perfect food for human babies right
1746. 1:07:03perfect food lowest protein content any
1747. 1:07:06other mammal and so it gives a sense of
  1748. 1:07:08kind of protein
  1749. 1:07:10requirement
1750. 1:07:12anything then rat milk eight milk donkey
1751. 1:07:15milk any milk has ever been tested and
1752. 1:07:18you hear this a lot in bodybuilders
1753. 1:07:19they're like well I need you know
1754. 1:07:21chicken or I need fish to be you know to
1755. 1:07:23be WR to build muscle tissue that is
1756. 1:07:26utter nonsense the largest strongest
1757. 1:07:29terrestrial animals on the planet are
1758. 1:07:31all herbivores the biggest strongest
1759. 1:07:33animals are all herbivores when we bring
1760. 1:07:36in people and they're on meaty diets and
  1761. 1:07:38we transition them to a plant-based diet
  1762. 1:07:39we always track what they're eating
1763. 1:07:41their vitamin intake goes up their
1764. 1:07:43nutrition overall goes up dramatically
1765. 1:07:45better and these same people might worry
1766. 1:07:48in advance will I get the nutrition that
1767. 1:07:50I need on a plant-based diet the fact is
1768. 1:07:52you're not getting the nutrition you you
  1769. 1:07:54need on a meat-based diet and you're
1770. 1:07:55going to get dramatically better
  1771. 1:07:57nutrition on a plant-based diet for an
1772. 1:07:58average sized guy like myself I need
  1773. 1:08:01about 56 grams of protein a day that's
  1774. 1:08:04Optimum probably I really need 30 to 40
1775. 1:08:06grams a day diets that are really high
1776. 1:08:08in these protein create diabetes create
1777. 1:08:11heart disease create cancer create the
  1778. 1:08:12diseases that that I'm treating on a
1779. 1:08:14daily basis but this is the opposite of
1780. 1:08:16what all the high protein diet fads say
1781. 1:08:18the food you eat determines the bacteria
1782. 1:08:21that live in your gut well you eat
1783. 1:08:22animal flesh every every day you are
1784. 1:08:25summoning up bacteria that eat carnitin
1785. 1:08:28and those bacteria will turn that
  1786. 1:08:30carnitin into a molecule called
1787. 1:08:33trimethylamine your liver then turns
  1788. 1:08:35that into trimethylamine oxide that's a
1789. 1:08:38molecule from hell that molecule drives
1790. 1:08:40cholesterol into the artery walls and
1791. 1:08:43the people who are consume this flesh-
1792. 1:08:45based diet are contributing to plaque
1793. 1:08:47building up they may lose weight on this
  1794. 1:08:49diet and that's good but what's
1795. 1:08:50happening inside your arteries paleo
  1796. 1:08:53friends what what's happening is that
1797. 1:08:54black is building up and these are the
1798. 1:08:56folks who drop dead at the gym at 39 Bo
1799. 1:08:58he was lean he looked really good but
  1800. 1:09:01where is that cholesterol going it's
1801. 1:09:03going into your artery walls so I
1802. 1:09:05believe these paleo folks are setting
1803. 1:09:07themselves up for an epidemic of clogged
  1804. 1:09:10arteries colon cancers autoimmune
1805. 1:09:13diseases uh this is not a healthy diet
1806. 1:09:15we are not carnivorous Apes humans
1807. 1:09:17closest living relatives are chimps who
1808. 1:09:19get 97% of their calories from plants
1809. 1:09:22and the remaining 3% mostly from insects
1810. 1:09:24comparing the anatomy of true omnivores
1811. 1:09:26like Bears who eat both meat and plants
1812. 1:09:28to frugivores like primates who eat
  1813. 1:09:30almost exclusively plants the
1814. 1:09:31differences are pretty clear frugivore
1815. 1:09:34teeth have flat MERS for chewing plants
1816. 1:09:35where omnivore teeth are serrated for
1817. 1:09:37stabbing and tearing flesh fuore Jaws
1818. 1:09:40can move forward and back and side to
1819. 1:09:41side omnivore Jaws cannot omnivores have
1820. 1:09:44much stronger stomach acid for digesting
1821. 1:09:46meat compared to less acidic stomach
1822. 1:09:48acid of frugivores the intestines of
1823. 1:09:50frugivores is nine times their body
1824. 1:09:52length compared to three times for
1825. 1:09:53omnivores this is because meat will
1826. 1:09:55purify in the gut unless it is moved
1827. 1:09:57through quickly if humans were indeed
1828. 1:09:59true omnivores we would need to change
  1829. 1:10:01our physiology and appearance quite a
1830. 1:10:03lot but we fit every requirement of a
1831. 1:10:05frugivore we may behave like omnivores
  1832. 1:10:08but anatomically we're fuor human beings
1833. 1:10:11unlike bears and raccoons and to some
  1834. 1:10:13extent dogs don't have that mixed
1835. 1:10:17anatomy and physiology that you see in
1836. 1:10:19the true omnivores and thus we are not
  1837. 1:10:21true omnivores in humans the C n have
1838. 1:10:24become really small and rounded and
1839. 1:10:27actually function like accessory in
  1840. 1:10:29sizers they're utterly useless for
1841. 1:10:31ripping and tearing anything other than
1842. 1:10:33an envelope so the idea that the mere
1843. 1:10:37presence of the K9 somehow means that
1844. 1:10:38we're supposed to eat meat is silly he
1845. 1:10:41was right I always thought my canines
1846. 1:10:42were for meat but what kind of animal
1847. 1:10:44could I actually kill and eat raw with
1848. 1:10:46these tiny teeth the thought alone was
  1849. 1:10:48disgusting I mean everybody loves a
1850. 1:10:51smoothie made with fruit and even some
1851. 1:10:53some vegetables but if you think about
  1852. 1:10:55putting a fish or a piece of beef in a
1853. 1:10:58blender and grinding it up the thought
1854. 1:11:01is absolutely repulsive all these
1855. 1:11:03diseases I had learned about were from
  1856. 1:11:05eating a diet our body wasn't designed
1857. 1:11:06for what would happen if we started
1858. 1:11:08eating a diet our body actually was
1859. 1:11:10designed for the data is crystal clear
1860. 1:11:13that you can stop and reverse heart
  1861. 1:11:15disease with plant-based diets uh
1862. 1:11:17scientifically shown I've seen it in my
  1863. 1:11:19own patients people who adopt low-fat
1864. 1:11:21plant-based diets can actually reverse
1865. 1:11:23their heart disease and that literally
1866. 1:11:25means watching the plaque start to go
  1867. 1:11:27away something they didn't think Could
1868. 1:11:29Happen my experience with patien is and
1869. 1:11:31those studies show that when people
  1870. 1:11:33adopt a fully plant-based diet their
  1871. 1:11:34cholesterol levels plummet within a few
1872. 1:11:36days and if you do blood tests in a
  1873. 1:11:38couple of weeks you'll see dramatic
1874. 1:11:39improvements yes your numbers are going
1875. 1:11:41to look great within a week or two your
1876. 1:11:43cholesterol can come crashing down in
  1877. 1:11:45fact if you're on medications your
1878. 1:11:46doctor may have to pull off your blood
1879. 1:11:48pressure medication so your blood
1880. 1:11:49pressure don't drop too low because it
1881. 1:11:51can work too good like that the side
1882. 1:11:53effect is not having to take drugs in a
1883. 1:11:55groundbreaking study published by Dr
  1884. 1:11:57eleston following patients suffering
  1885. 1:11:59from cardiovascular disease
1886. 1:12:0199.4% were able to avoid major cardiac
  1887. 1:12:04events by going plant-based because it's
  1888. 1:12:06not just heart disease it's hypertension
1889. 1:12:09it's diabetes its Strokes its heart
  1890. 1:12:11attacks it's several of the autoimmune
1891. 1:12:13diseases lupus asthma gird osteoporosis
  1892. 1:12:18I mean there's a multitude of diseases
1893. 1:12:21even rheumatoid arthritis it can be so
1894. 1:12:23atic when you see these poor souls with
1895. 1:12:26just absolutely crippled with rheumatoid
  1896. 1:12:28arthritis go plant-based then they come
1897. 1:12:30off come off their medication I wanted
1898. 1:12:32to follow up with Jane Chapman who had
  1899. 1:12:34been suffering from severe
  1900. 1:12:35osteoarthritis and I could not believe
1901. 1:12:38what I saw after only a few weeks of
1902. 1:12:40fasting and changing your diet so those
1903. 1:12:42are so amazing see like this few weeks
1904. 1:12:45later I know from going from The Walker
1905. 1:12:49needing wheelchair assistance at the
1906. 1:12:51airport to strolling down the street
1907. 1:12:55enjoying the fresh air the
1908. 1:12:58sunshine two weeks it's all it took two
1909. 1:13:01weeks to get off all the meds and uh
1910. 1:13:04start to to feel the inflammation just
1911. 1:13:06kind of drain out of the body where the
  1912. 1:13:09movement was much
1913. 1:13:11easier uh just a lot of healing occurred
1914. 1:13:14very very rapidly just by doing the
1915. 1:13:16right things for your body when you're
1916. 1:13:19treating diseases with drugs you know
1917. 1:13:21there's one drug you take for cl
1918. 1:13:23different class of drugs you take for
1919. 1:13:25high blood pressure different class of
1920. 1:13:27drugs you take for diabetes but with
  1921. 1:13:29diet a plant-based diet affects all
1922. 1:13:31these diseases one diet to kind of rule
1923. 1:13:33them all the impacts of eating this way
1924. 1:13:35go far beyond ourselves by getting rid
1925. 1:13:38of heart disease alone we would save up
1926. 1:13:39to $48 trillion in USA three times the
1927. 1:13:43US GDP conditions like high blood
1928. 1:13:45pressure you don't have to take the
1929. 1:13:47drugs the rest of your life and be sick
1930. 1:13:49forever what you can do is live in such
1931. 1:13:51a way that it gives the body a chance to
  1932. 1:13:53heal itself we took 174 consecutive
1933. 1:13:55patients with high blood pressure and
1934. 1:13:57174 people were able to lower their
1935. 1:14:00blood pressure enough to eliminate the
1936. 1:14:01need for medication for uh inflammatory
  1937. 1:14:04bow disease like Crohn's the best
1938. 1:14:05remission rates ever achieved through
1939. 1:14:08plantbase diet Ms multiple sclerosis the
1940. 1:14:11best results ever achieved compared to
1941. 1:14:13any medical surgical any kind of
  1942. 1:14:15intervention was a plant-based diet you
1943. 1:14:17can see that with every sequential
1944. 1:14:19reduction in animal products people live
1945. 1:14:21longer they have less heart disease they
1946. 1:14:23have less cancer they have less diabetes
1947. 1:14:25you can actually take human cancer cells
1948. 1:14:27and put them in a Petri dish you can
1949. 1:14:28drip the blood of those eating vegan get
  1950. 1:14:30about 72% suppression in human prostate
1951. 1:14:34cancer cell growth in vitro they wanted
1952. 1:14:36to try this again with women and breast
  1953. 1:14:38cancer they said let's see what a
1954. 1:14:39plant-based die can do after just two
1955. 1:14:41weeks their body's cleaned up you drop
1956. 1:14:44their blood on the same carpet of cancer
1957. 1:14:46cells you can clear off the whole plate
1958. 1:14:48this is after just two weeks eating
1959. 1:14:50healthy which raises the question you
1960. 1:14:51know what kind of blood do we want in
1961. 1:14:53our body body my background is in
1962. 1:14:55industrial and systems engineering and
1963. 1:14:57that was my career path um for a long
1964. 1:15:00time until I had thyroid cancer and
  1965. 1:15:04everything changed from there I decided
1966. 1:15:08that I wanted to uh try alternative
1967. 1:15:11methods and treatments rather than have
1968. 1:15:13surgery and have my thyroid removed
1969. 1:15:16which meant I'd be on medication forever
  1970. 1:15:17and I didn't want that I just started
  1971. 1:15:19reading how a plant-based diet can heal
1972. 1:15:22the body and it has worked for so many
1973. 1:15:24people so I immediately just switched to
  1974. 1:15:28a completely Whole Food plant-based diet
1975. 1:15:30after a year um the cancer was
1976. 1:15:33completely gone and my thyroid had
1977. 1:15:35shrunk to normal size and I was
1978. 1:15:38completely free of that this was tough
1979. 1:15:40to believe couldn't this all just be
1980. 1:15:42from eating healthier though like no
1981. 1:15:43sugar turns out Dr Walter Kempner from
1982. 1:15:46Duke University back in the 1940s was
1983. 1:15:49reversing some of our worst killer
1984. 1:15:51diseases with diet alone and the diet he
1985. 1:15:53was using was not only strictly
1986. 1:15:54plant-based but it was made up of white
1987. 1:15:57rice fruit and table sugar and he was
1988. 1:16:00reversing diabetes he was reversing
  1989. 1:16:02malignant hypertension reversing heart
  1990. 1:16:04disease the diabetic complications
1991. 1:16:07reversing diabetic blindness so these
1992. 1:16:09people basically had death sentences
1993. 1:16:11went to him and were given basically
1994. 1:16:13sugar you know this horrible diet but it
  1995. 1:16:17was strictly plant-based if this
1996. 1:16:19information had been around since the
  1997. 1:16:211940s why don't all doct know this we're
1998. 1:16:24not taught about the power of food in
1999. 1:16:26medical school no one is taught that the
2000. 1:16:30changes that we make with our diet are
2001. 1:16:33probably the single most powerful thing
2002. 1:16:34we can do to determine our destiny it
  2003. 1:16:37trumps our genetics why isn't your
2004. 1:16:38doctor telling this odds are your doctor
2005. 1:16:41never learned any of this in fact there
  2006. 1:16:42was even a bill introduced just
2007. 1:16:44mandating Physicians get seven hours
2008. 1:16:46nutrition training every couple years
2009. 1:16:48just kind of stay on top of it and who
2010. 1:16:50came out against that the California
2011. 1:16:53medical association even the family
2012. 1:16:55physicians the surgeons all the
2013. 1:16:56mainstream medical groups came out
  2014. 1:16:58opposed at 7 hours that's that's a lot
2015. 1:17:01even if it's over one foure period so
2016. 1:17:04they're not just kind of neutral but
  2017. 1:17:06they're actually actively opposing
  2018. 1:17:08nutrition education ironically when
2019. 1:17:10patients come to doctors with questions
2020. 1:17:11they assume that the doctor knows
  2021. 1:17:13something about nutrition and so it's
2022. 1:17:14kind of a double whammy that doctors
2023. 1:17:16haven't been taught much about nutrition
2024. 1:17:18why don't we hear about this from
2025. 1:17:19dietitians when nutrition is their
2026. 1:17:21entire specialty turns out the American
2027. 1:17:23nutrition and dietetics Association puts
2028. 1:17:25out nutrition fact sheets ridden by the
2029. 1:17:26industries themselves the industries pay
2030. 1:17:29$20,000 per fact sheet and explicitly
2031. 1:17:31take part in writing them so you can
2032. 1:17:33learn about eggs from the egg industry
2033. 1:17:35you can learn about lamb from the lamb
2034. 1:17:36industry this would be like learning
2035. 1:17:38about the benefits of smoking from the
2036. 1:17:40tobacco industry when people are eating
2037. 1:17:42meat I think of it as a bit like smoking
2038. 1:17:44it's sort of Russian Roulette you may
2039. 1:17:47not get diabetes but your chances of
2040. 1:17:49getting diabetes about one and three you
2041. 1:17:51may not get cancer but your chances if
2042. 1:17:53you're a man about one in two a woman
2043. 1:17:55one in three your chances of gaining
2044. 1:17:56weight two out of three it's not all
2045. 1:17:58diet but most of it is the best thing
2046. 1:18:00that you can do to make sure that you
2047. 1:18:02empty all those bullets out of the
2048. 1:18:04chamber and you're not taking risks with
2049. 1:18:06your health is to get the animal
2050. 1:18:08products out of your diet and eating
2051. 1:18:09healthy foods I came to True North to
2052. 1:18:12help me with my asthma and to lose a
  2053. 1:18:14little weight and it's amazing just in 2
2054. 1:18:17weeks of changing my diet don't have to
  2055. 1:18:19take any asthma
  2056. 1:18:21medication no
2057. 1:18:23anti-depressants no pain medication no
2058. 1:18:26heart medication nothing no medications
  2059. 1:18:30at all and it's really it's just
2060. 1:18:33incredible I was taking oxie and Advil
  2061. 1:18:36and I was taking 800 migs of Motrin
2062. 1:18:39three times a day just to get through
2063. 1:18:41the day because I was in so much pain
2064. 1:18:44and now nothing wow nothing at all two
2065. 1:18:46weeks two weeks 14 days all that
2066. 1:18:49medication are completely off completely
  2067. 1:18:52off everything it's just been so
2068. 1:18:53frustrating to me because I went to so
2069. 1:18:56many different doctors for help and I
2070. 1:19:00tried so many different medications to
2071. 1:19:01help me with my asthma and nothing
2072. 1:19:04helped and I was stuck on the couch for
2073. 1:19:05the last 10 months uh unable to breathe
  2074. 1:19:10and now in 2 weeks time 14 days I'm off
  2075. 1:19:14my medication and I can breathe and I
2076. 1:19:17feel good and I can walk my life has
2077. 1:19:19changed and it only took 2 weeks of a
  2078. 1:19:22whole plant-based diet that's incredible
  2079. 1:19:26yeah that is
  2080. 1:19:28incredible it really is that's amazing
2081. 1:19:31it really is I feel so blessed and so
2082. 1:19:33good and just so happy um to be doing
  2083. 1:19:38this and I'm hoping that I can be a role
2084. 1:19:40model for other people and um not be
  2085. 1:19:43pushy about it because everyone's going
2086. 1:19:45to do it in their own time um but thank
  2087. 1:19:48God my time is
  2088. 1:19:50n so
  2089. 1:19:55thanks
  2090. 1:19:57thanks as powerful as Amy's story was I
  2091. 1:20:00knew for some eating 100% plant-based
  2092. 1:20:03would still seem extreme I think there's
  2093. 1:20:05this sense that everything's okay in
  2094. 1:20:08moderation right but we haven't seen
  2095. 1:20:12that moderation works there really isn't
2096. 1:20:15a study that shows that by eating meat
2097. 1:20:17and eggs in moderation you can actually
2098. 1:20:19turn your heart disease around and get
  2099. 1:20:20better but I know people who've given up
  2100. 1:20:22meat and they felt sick yeah it's it's
  2101. 1:20:25unlikely that anybody's symptoms are
  2102. 1:20:27caused by a dead decaying flesh
2103. 1:20:29deficiency the the lack of Highly
2104. 1:20:31processed animal food products in the
2105. 1:20:33diet is not going to be associated with
  2106. 1:20:35the causal Factor about why they're
2107. 1:20:37they're sick there is going to be a
2108. 1:20:38reason why they're not feeling well but
2109. 1:20:39that's not going to be one of them so
2110. 1:20:41I've had people go vegan and they come
  2111. 1:20:42back to me and they're like I'm
  2112. 1:20:43hypothyroid and my doctor says I'm
  2113. 1:20:45hypothyroid because uh plant-based diet
  2114. 1:20:47makes you
2115. 1:20:49hypothyroid I'm like so what does your
2116. 1:20:51doctor tell all his Med eers that are
  2117. 1:20:53hypothyroid well what's an animal flesh
2118. 1:20:55or dairy that you can't get in
  2119. 1:20:57plant-based
  2120. 1:20:59cholesterol heterocylic
2121. 1:21:01amines ecoi you know if you think about
  2122. 1:21:04it U there is nothing in an animal-based
2123. 1:21:07diet that you can't get in healthier
2124. 1:21:09form somewhere else the only other
  2125. 1:21:11vitamin is vitamin B12 it's not made by
2126. 1:21:14plants not made by animals either made
2127. 1:21:16by little microbes the blank of the
2128. 1:21:17earth so because the way we live in our
  2129. 1:21:19sanitized World unless you're eating
2130. 1:21:21bacteria contamin ated Foods we need to
  2131. 1:21:24get a source of B12 from somewhere so
2132. 1:21:26the healthiest cheapest safest source is
  2133. 1:21:28to get a vitamin B12 fortified food or
2134. 1:21:31vitamin B12 supplement not to get it for
2135. 1:21:33meat and dairy what about people who say
2136. 1:21:35they have to eat meat for their blood
  2137. 1:21:36type or their genes I it's just like
  2138. 1:21:39it's like I need me because I'm a
2139. 1:21:41Capricorn or I need me because I have an
2140. 1:21:42A+ blood I mean it's like what do you
2141. 1:21:44say no one has to eat meat I mean
2142. 1:21:46there's no vitamin mineral nutrient that
  2143. 1:21:48you can't get from non-animal sources
  2144. 1:21:52Valentine 's day I decided to go vegan
2145. 1:21:55and give up all meat which was never in
2146. 1:21:58my thoughts in a wild million years but
2147. 1:22:01I've heard so much success from people
2148. 1:22:02that are vegan and so we I gave up all
  2149. 1:22:05Animal product whatsoever I've lost uh
2150. 1:22:0829 PBS I've been able to cut my meds in
2151. 1:22:12half I've been able to cut my insulin in
2152. 1:22:14half and now I'm going for the moon I'm
2153. 1:22:16going to cut it all out in the last six
  2154. 1:22:19weeks we've just had three grandchildren
2155. 1:22:21and my ugly face is going to be around
2156. 1:22:23to see him graduate from high school and
2157. 1:22:25college I'm going to be here my mission
2158. 1:22:27is to let everybody know you do not have
2159. 1:22:29to suffer from diabetes and cancer and
2160. 1:22:32heart disease because someone in your
2161. 1:22:34family had it or because the doctors are
2162. 1:22:36telling you this is what's going to
2163. 1:22:38happen you can take charge of your
2164. 1:22:39health and have a positive outcome just
  2165. 1:22:42like I did the reason I'm so committed
2166. 1:22:45to this is um you know my grandmother
  2167. 1:22:47had diabetes and I didn't know what I
2168. 1:22:51know now about healing the body and if I
2169. 1:22:54did I feel like she could have lived at
2170. 1:22:56least a few years longer and so it's in
  2171. 1:22:59her
  2172. 1:23:00honor that I do what I do because I
  2173. 1:23:03could save someone else's grandmother
2174. 1:23:05Aunt Uncle father from that you
  2175. 1:23:09know um
2176. 1:23:13so so I'm excited about about getting
  2177. 1:23:16the message out there there's a common
  2178. 1:23:19belief that eating plant-based is
2179. 1:23:20expensive not at all it can be done in a
2180. 1:23:24very inexpensive way where you buy foods
2181. 1:23:27that are in season and you shop in the
2182. 1:23:29bulk bins and that saves a lot of money
2183. 1:23:32you can eliminate a lot of your expenses
2184. 1:23:35on your grocery bill by not buying meat
2185. 1:23:37and dairy because those things are
2186. 1:23:39expensive our meal plan for a family of
2187. 1:23:42four is $25 per person in the family 264
  2188. 1:23:47should told 2064 W that's for an entire
2189. 1:23:50week of food really an exploding
2190. 1:23:53movement of elite athletes are utilizing
2191. 1:23:55vegan diets to heal injuries speed
2192. 1:23:57recovery times and enhance their
  2193. 1:23:58performance before I was vegan I was
2194. 1:24:01only bench pressing 315 like five times
  2195. 1:24:04then after going vegan I was doing 400
2196. 1:24:07425 465 and I was like oh my God this is
  2197. 1:24:11amazing I'm vegan and I'm bench pressing
2198. 1:24:13465 lbs this is ridiculous and as soon
2199. 1:24:16as I went vegan ton night it started
2200. 1:24:18disappearing my strength in my right arm
2201. 1:24:20started coming back high blood pressure
2202. 1:24:22was going went down you you can't be
2203. 1:24:24strong and be dying on the inside that's
  2204. 1:24:26not strong that's weak that's really
2205. 1:24:29weak because yeah you look big and
2206. 1:24:31strong on the outside yeah big man no
2207. 1:24:33but your heart's crying for help on the
  2208. 1:24:35inside you're you're dying I'm a
  2209. 1:24:38professional parkour athlete uh two-time
2210. 1:24:39world free winning champion and more
2211. 1:24:41recently I got into Ninja Warrior where
2212. 1:24:42I'm captain of Team Europe as we win uh
2213. 1:24:45USA versus the world for something like
2214. 1:24:46Ninja Warrior and parkour specifically
2215. 1:24:49you really need to have a good strength
2216. 1:24:51to body weight ratio so I was carrying
  2217. 1:24:53mass that I really didn't need and when
  2218. 1:24:54I went vegan you know I lost 15 20 I was
2219. 1:24:56more agile I was more efficient more
2220. 1:24:58stamina in my body just that extra bit
2221. 1:25:00of pop that I didn't have before it just
2222. 1:25:01gave me that extra strength this is a
2223. 1:25:04very vibrant way to live it can enhance
2224. 1:25:07you as an athlete for me 100% better
  2225. 1:25:09athlete than I was before it unlocked a
2226. 1:25:11whole new chapter of my training the
2227. 1:25:13science is there the health is there the
2228. 1:25:14the athletes are there proving that you
2229. 1:25:15don't need to eat dead animals to be
2230. 1:25:17strong to be healthy I started working
2231. 1:25:19out when I was 47 years old all the mus
2232. 1:25:22you see I gained as vegan I gained the
2233. 1:25:2515 lbs of muscles on my body eating all
2234. 1:25:28plant-based vegan foods all the aches
2235. 1:25:31and pains in my body it just went away
  2236. 1:25:34because I'm not ingesting so many
2237. 1:25:36inflaming foods the acidic foods that
2238. 1:25:38animal products are gorillas rhinos and
2239. 1:25:40elephants they all get their muscles and
  2240. 1:25:43strength from eating plants that's what
2241. 1:25:45I do I travel all around the world for
2242. 1:25:48my surfing and I've always been able to
2243. 1:25:51eat vegan I feel like if you want
2244. 1:25:54something you can make it happen I just
2245. 1:25:56don't make any excuses I would never not
2246. 1:25:58be vegan now that I know all the
2247. 1:26:00benefits and now that I know how it
2248. 1:26:01feels to be vegan every aspect of my
2249. 1:26:04life has been improved by adopting this
  2250. 1:26:06lifestyle I feel better I perform better
  2251. 1:26:09athletically I sleep better my energy
2252. 1:26:11with my kids is better my focus at work
2253. 1:26:14is better everything is better my skin
2254. 1:26:15cleared up kept myself trim for 9 years
2255. 1:26:19now doing this all I can tell you is
  2256. 1:26:21that I felt and I continue to feel
2257. 1:26:24better than I ever felt before my friend
2258. 1:26:26Jason lar and I were the first people to
2259. 1:26:29uh do this challenge called epic five
2260. 1:26:31which entailed doing Five Iron Man's on
2261. 1:26:34five Hawaiian Islands in under a week an
2262. 1:26:36Iron Man is a 2.4 mile swim followed by
2263. 1:26:39112 mile bike and then running a
2264. 1:26:42marathon 26.2 miles after that so we did
2265. 1:26:45five of those in a row on five different
  2266. 1:26:47islands and a little under a week you
2267. 1:26:49want die no die so I guess the famous
2268. 1:26:53question where did you get your protein
  2269. 1:26:54in
  2270. 1:26:55there from
2271. 1:26:58plants like so many people I was looking
2272. 1:27:00for excuses not to change my diet but
  2273. 1:27:03once I finally did I felt liberated
2274. 1:27:05within days I could feel the blood
2275. 1:27:07running through my veins with a new
  2276. 1:27:08Vitality within weeks I felt a
2277. 1:27:10transformation throughout my entire body
2278. 1:27:12and mind not only could I survive on a
  2279. 1:27:15purely plant-based vegan diet I could
  2280. 1:27:17Thrive I felt amazing I competed in my
2281. 1:27:20first marathon in six years training
2282. 1:27:22half the amount and beat my personal
  2283. 1:27:24record by 23 minutes less than a month
2284. 1:27:26later I did my first full Iron Man
2285. 1:27:29although I could possibly get away with
2286. 1:27:31eating a little bit of meat and dairy
2287. 1:27:32without ill effects to my personal
  2288. 1:27:34health I could no longer willingly
2289. 1:27:35support an industry I knew was causing
2290. 1:27:37so much suffering to communities
2291. 1:27:39families and all life on the planet A
2292. 1:27:42Whole New World opened up I felt whole
2293. 1:27:44again connected to a greater sense of
2294. 1:27:46what true health is and where true
2295. 1:27:48Health doesn't end with me but begins
  2296. 1:27:51with us if people adopted a plant-based
2297. 1:27:55diet the changes we would see in our
2298. 1:27:59individual health in our national health
2299. 1:28:02situation and in this physical
2300. 1:28:04environmental world we live in would be
2301. 1:28:07so profound I mean today you you can say
2302. 1:28:11I'm not going to eat that stuff anymore
2303. 1:28:13it's the one thing that I can do myself
2304. 1:28:15personally to make a difference it will
  2305. 1:28:18give you a greater sense of well-being
2306. 1:28:19and happiness when you know that one
2307. 1:28:22you're not destroying your health every
2308. 1:28:23time you sit down to eat you're not
  2309. 1:28:25promoting cruelty and you're not
  2310. 1:28:27damaging the earth I don't want my gains
2311. 1:28:29to be at the detriment of the planet of
  2312. 1:28:30other things and yet I'm not weaker I'm
2313. 1:28:33stronger that's the beauty of it when
2314. 1:28:34you're altruistic when you make choices
2315. 1:28:35for the greater good of others it comes
2316. 1:28:37around benefits me as well it benefits
2317. 1:28:39us all studies show that we can not only
2318. 1:28:41survive but we can Thrive I just feel
2319. 1:28:44this is a great way to live not harming
2320. 1:28:46other beings when we can be healthy and
  2321. 1:28:49happier I love it it's a great life
2322. 1:28:52I never thought that I could feel this
2323. 1:28:54good at this age and I just want
2324. 1:28:56everybody to feel this way I feel like a
  2325. 1:28:5920-year-old I'm almost 50 nothing tastes
2326. 1:29:02as good as healthy feels basically and
2327. 1:29:05so the choices that we make every single
2328. 1:29:07day day in and day out around our food
2329. 1:29:09has the capacity to bring us true health
2330. 1:29:12and Optimal Wellness not just
  2331. 1:29:14individually but collectively as a
2332. 1:29:16species and for our planet we're not
2333. 1:29:19going to live forever but while we are
2334. 1:29:21alive we can live well and for me as a
  2335. 1:29:24doctor that's what I want to see where
  2336. 1:29:26there's a wheel there is a
