- 0:00You got to do more Kegels.
- 0:01>> Do I need to do Kegels? Is that what you
- 0:03mean?
- 0:03>> do Kegels, man. You can start right now.
- 0:05Do some Kegels right now. It's easy.
- 0:09No one has to know you're doing it,
- 0:10either. I could be doing it right now,
- 0:11for all you know.
- 0:12>> Ooh. How do you do a Kegel?
- 0:15Mhm.
- 0:19Come on. Please.
- 0:21>> Feels incredible. [laughter]
- 0:28>> Here it goes. Welcome to Forehead
- 0:30Fables. That's a pretty good start,
- 0:31right?
- 0:32>> Um
- 0:33>> Seems like an introduction, almost.
- 0:35>> Wilbur Soot. Should I call you Wilbur
- 0:38Soot? Is that your actual Is that like a
- 0:40moniker you go by?
- 0:42>> Call me what you like. I don't mind.
- 0:44>> Call me Will. Call me Will. Why not?
- 0:46Come on, that's my That's my real name.
- 0:47>> Our guest, Will. Return guest. Last time
- 0:49you were here was I looked at it 6 years
- 0:51ago.
- 0:53Wasn't it 6? I think it was 6.
- 0:54>> Yeah, I think so. That sounds about
- 0:55right.
- 0:56>> No, it'll be longer. It was before
- 0:57COVID.
- 0:59>> I think that'd be about 6 years. I think
- 1:01it was like 2019.
- 1:03I think. Yeah.
- 1:04And
- 1:06and then now you come back
- 1:086 years later.
- 1:10>> back.
- 1:11>> Mhm. Another
- 1:12>> Well, well, well. [laughter]
- 1:14>> follow-up guest appearance.
- 1:16And uh
- 1:17>> It's good to be back.
- 1:18>> Yeah. You've had a pretty long, storied
- 1:21career since you last came on here. In
- 1:24fact, the first thing you said to me
- 1:26when you messaged me back was "Sorry I
- 1:29ghosted you on Twitter a couple years
- 1:30ago." Cuz you got so popular, you were
- 1:32like,
- 1:34"I'm above ever talking to that [ __ ]
- 1:35guy again."
- 1:36>> That's [clears throat] not true, Sam.
- 1:38And you know that. You're being
- 1:39facetious.
- 1:40>> that's not true, and yet it did happen.
- 1:44>> It did happen, but not for the reasons
- 1:46you're opining, you
- 1:48you you bastard.
- 1:50>> [laughter]
- 1:50>> You bastard.
- 1:51>> Yeah.
- 1:52>> I wish I had a reason.
- 1:52>> my back. That's why we put you in the
- 1:54middle. You're in the [ __ ] hot seat
- 1:56right now.
- 1:57>> You ever You ever like
- 1:59like forget to respond to a message and
- 2:01then like a week's passed and you're
- 2:03like, "It's actually more rude to
- 2:05respond now than to just never say
- 2:08anything again."
- 2:09>> Yeah. Yeah, so the nicest option was to
- 2:12just never answer me for years.
- 2:15That does seem actually better.
- 2:16>> reached out again. You never reached out
- 2:18again. I think the last thing I said
- 2:19>> Oh, oh, I'm sorry. So, you wanted me to
- 2:21just keep piling messages on?
- 2:23>> [laughter]
- 2:24>> Maybe he'll answer me.
- 2:26>> it.
- 2:27>> Yeah.
- 2:28Well, I
- 2:29I know I what I do is I get a message
- 2:31and I look at it and like usually my
- 2:33kids are going like, "Dad, look at this
- 2:34drawing. Dad, look at this drawing." And
- 2:35Abby's like, "Honey, you need to like do
- 2:37this or that." And I'm and I go, "I
- 2:39don't have like the time to give this as
- 2:42genuine of a response as needed, you
- 2:45know?"
- 2:46Like I I feel like the response requires
- 2:49me
- 2:50to actually sit down and like write
- 2:51something well thought out and I don't
- 2:53have the time right now. So, I walk away
- 2:55from it and then I forget to ever circle
- 2:57back around. And so, when you didn't
- 2:59answer me, instead of crying,
- 3:01I said, "Maybe he's up to something, you
- 3:03know? Maybe he's something's really
- 3:04important that he's doing that's way
- 3:06more important than answering me for
- 3:07years."
- 3:08>> I was scheming.
- 3:10>> Yeah.
- 3:11Well,
- 3:11>> But I'm here now.
- 3:13>> That's good.
- 3:14>> I found my way home like a pigeon.
- 3:16>> Yeah.
- 3:17What have you been sinking your teeth
- 3:19into for the last couple years?
- 3:21>> I've been
- 3:23in a band called Love Joy.
- 3:26Been traveling around. I've been Been to
- 3:28your state.
- 3:29Been to Florida.
- 3:31>> Yeah, you You told me you did a full
- 3:33[ __ ] American tour.
- 3:35>> Yeah, a couple.
- 3:36Done about three since you last spoke to
- 3:38me.
- 3:39I've been uh I've been around Europe. I
- 3:42started a geography channel. Started
- 3:44doing like geography videos recently.
- 3:46That's my That's my newest venture.
- 3:48I did I uploaded a video recently where
- 3:50I hired 50 psychics and got them all to
- 3:53predict my future and then compared what
- 3:56they all said.
- 3:57>> Were they accurate? What was your
- 3:58outlook?
- 4:00>> Oh, man. Not great.
- 4:02>> [laughter]
- 4:03>> You will be on a really prestigious
- 4:05podcast.
- 4:06>> [laughter]
- 4:09>> No, they were they all said that
- 4:11they all said I was going to struggle.
- 4:13That was the number one. They all said
- 4:15it's time First will come the struggle.
- 4:18Then will come wealth.
- 4:20And then will come success in that
- 4:22order. They all of them said pretty
- 4:24much.
- 4:25>> Did you give them time to Google your
- 4:26name before they did the
- 4:29before they did the [ __ ] psychic
- 4:31evaluations or whatever?
- 4:32>> come great controversy.
- 4:34>> Yeah.
- 4:35>> [laughter]
- 4:35>> Yeah.
- 4:35>> Well,
- 4:36>> They didn't know who I was.
- 4:37>> First you'll be like a social pariah and
- 4:40then you might claw your way back
- 4:44through years of dedicated good boy
- 4:47service to the world.
- 4:48>> by that point I'll be 60 60 years old
- 4:51and I can finally die.
- 4:53>> Well, it's interesting wealth before
- 4:55success.
- 4:56>> Yeah, I know.
- 4:57>> Yeah, that's true. Would you rather have
- 4:59wealth or success?
- 5:02>> Uh,
- 5:03don't know.
- 5:04They're both kind of pointless,
- 5:06you know, eventually.
- 5:07>> Correct answer is wealth.
- 5:09>> I was I was going to say I feel like for
- 5:11most people those two things are
- 5:14innately tied together.
- 5:16>> Yeah.
- 5:17>> Uh, maybe in American.
- 5:19>> Would you rather have food or be full?
- 5:21That's like
- 5:22>> Well, when you say wealth, do you just
- 5:24mean like money in general or do you
- 5:25mean like could be wealthy? Like that's
- 5:27the
- 5:28>> Like a Bob Marley sense of wealth or
- 5:30like monetary wealth. I'd say like
- 5:32money.
- 5:34>> Emotional wealth.
- 5:36>> Uh,
- 5:38Yeah, that's more like wealth.
- 5:39>> I was thinking wealth would be like you
- 5:41don't have to worry about bills.
- 5:42>> Like Scrooge McDuck.
- 5:44>> Yeah, and in the future you know, you
- 5:46don't have to
- 5:47Yeah, like when you're when you even at
- 5:49like my age now I wouldn't go like when
- 5:51I'm 65 of course I'm not going to have
- 5:53to worry about a a bill, you know, I
- 5:55don't there's no like financial problems
- 5:58ever in my future.
- 6:00That would be what I would consider
- 6:02wealth.
- 6:03>> And then you'll be successful according
- 6:05to the psychics.
- 6:07>> I No, no, I think I think you could be
- 6:09incredibly wealthy and then not
- 6:11successful at the same time.
- 6:13>> Oh, yeah, but the psychics would back to
- 6:15differ apparently cuz they were all like
- 6:17I I just basically I came to the
- 6:19conclusion they were just like reading
- 6:21off of the most famous story in the
- 6:23world which is the you know, the
- 6:25monomyth the hero's journey where it's
- 6:27like you know, that they go and get sage
- 6:29advice and then they go through a great
- 6:31trial and they come out the other side
- 6:33changed but great Yeah, literally Luke
- 6:35Skywalker. You got your Harry Potters
- 6:38and it's like
- 6:38>> [laughter]
- 6:39>> You're Being John Malkovich's.
- 6:41>> Yeah, yeah.
- 6:43I guess you can't they love them.
- 6:45>> He's not really a hero much uh
- 6:48>> Who? John Malkovich [clears throat] or
- 6:49>> No, um God what's the main character? Uh
- 6:53Come on help me out here.
- 6:54>> I forget his name too.
- 6:55>> Tub Time Machine. [laughter]
- 6:57>> Yeah.
- 6:57>> [clears throat]
- 6:57>> John Cusack.
- 6:58>> Yeah, John Cusack. Yeah.
- 7:00>> He's on uh
- 7:01Cameo.
- 7:03>> Pretty [laughter] sad.
- 7:05>> That's That's a prestigious place to be.
- 7:07One day I'd hope to be there.
- 7:09>> I think you know, I think it's a good
- 7:11last ditch.
- 7:12Yeah, we did an episode about Cameo and
- 7:14I got reached out by a Cameo rep. They
- 7:17were like people have been searching
- 7:18your name today.
- 7:20It was the day the episode came out.
- 7:22>> Oh, they wanted to do a Cameo?
- 7:24>> Well, they want they were like would you
- 7:25sign up?
- 7:28Not yet.
- 7:28>> Yeah, not [laughter] yet.
- 7:30>> Closer. I'm getting closer.
- 7:32>> What sucks is you have to You do have to
- 7:34sign up while people still give a [ __ ]
- 7:36about you. But you also don't want to
- 7:37sign up too early cuz then it's like
- 7:39this guy's washed up. He's on Cameo.
- 7:42And then there's some people that just
- 7:43very fine line.
- 7:44>> Yeah. Then there's like I think the only
- 7:46people that can get away with having a
- 7:48Cameo and still being successful are
- 7:51like the like the late night like club
- 7:54comedians that are just like traveling
- 7:56comedians.
- 7:57>> I think like character actors too that
- 7:59are like they're known for one role.
- 8:02>> Yeah.
- 8:02>> And then they do a Cameo as that guy.
- 8:05>> Yeah. That's cool.
- 8:07But I mean
- 8:07>> Dean Norris is one. Dean Norris does
- 8:09porn
- 8:09>> Yeah, I was just going
- 8:10>> Yeah, I was going to say like I feel
- 8:11like a lot of the Breaking Bad
- 8:14>> What does he got going on?
- 8:16>> porn gifts
- 8:18He was in the
- 8:20>> You know porn gifts?
- 8:21>> I did see that. What he tweet that?
- 8:23>> Yeah, he tweeted porn gifts. One of my
- 8:25favorite Dean Norris
- 8:26>> And then
- 8:27what I loved about it was then he was
- 8:29just like [ __ ] Like I guess I'm just
- 8:31keeping it up. [laughter] You know what
- 8:33I mean? Like most people would be like
- 8:35and then delete it, you know, but he was
- 8:37just like
- 8:38>> I said it.
- 8:39>> Yeah.
- 8:40You know what I'm about.
- 8:42>> [laughter]
- 8:44>> He's got no shame. I love it.
- 8:45>> He wanted us to comment porn gifts.
- 8:48>> [laughter]
- 8:48>> Porn gifts now.
- 8:49>> Reply with your best.
- 8:54>> It's also crazy to jerk off to a gif.
- 8:58>> Uh dude, that is the that is the most
- 9:00[ __ ] privileged young [ __ ] you've
- 9:02ever said in your life. [ __ ] you.
- 9:04>> I think it'd almost be better to
- 9:05>> I grew up jerking off to pictures, okay?
- 9:08First of all, pictures. Then the
- 9:10bandwidth got good enough that moving
- 9:12pictures, that was the gif era was there
- 9:15was years where that was cutting edge.
- 9:17Okay, so don't even come at me like oh
- 9:20you couldn't even who would jerk off to
- 9:22a gif?
- 9:22>> I'm just saying it's not like 1990.
- 9:27>> Oh yeah, but Dean Norris is old. So he
- 9:28probably
- 9:29>> Okay. So he's like he was still on
- 9:31pictures up until recently.
- 9:33>> Yeah.
- 9:34When he discovered yeah. I I wonder I
- 9:37bet you in the landfills, you know how
- 9:39they cut away the earth and they can see
- 9:41like oh, this is when like pottery was
- 9:43at its peak. I bet you the landfills
- 9:45they'll cut it like a big casserole and
- 9:47they'll there was just going to be a
- 9:49like a huge layer of like way more porno
- 9:51mags being thrown out than ever.
- 9:53>> It's going to mark it 10 minutes until
- 9:55porn talk and pretty [laughter] good
- 9:57honestly for us. Made it pretty far.
- 9:59>> Just because like the invention of the
- 10:00internet everybody like saw like moving
- 10:03video and [ __ ] and just went I don't
- 10:05need these magazines anymore. Chucked
- 10:07them. [clears throat] They went straight
- 10:08into the landfill.
- 10:09>> When that guy made the first video the
- 10:11horse running people are like holy [ __ ]
- 10:15I just got a million dollar idea.
- 10:17[laughter]
- 10:19Boobs bouncing.
- 10:21>> I wonder what the first porn movie is
- 10:24like porno film.
- 10:25>> French. Got to be French.
- 10:27>> Got to be French. 100% is French.
- 10:29>> You know and the amount of like light
- 10:31that those old cameras needed you know
- 10:33that was a stinky set. Oh my god. Had to
- 10:35be all stinky.
- 10:37>> Maybe they liked it. They were French.
- 10:39>> I would have paid to be in there. They
- 10:40were French?
- 10:42>> No, I'm saying maybe they liked the
- 10:43smell.
- 10:44>> Oh, yeah. They probably did. They closed
- 10:45the windows for sure.
- 10:47Keep that stench in. Damn, dude.
- 10:49>> Keep the stench in.
- 10:50>> Mhm.
- 10:52Yeah.
- 10:53So, you have your band and you do your
- 10:56touring.
- 10:57>> Yes.
- 10:57>> Um
- 10:59>> I think
- 11:00>> Now, there's the obvious elephant in the
- 11:01room.
- 11:02You haven't been in the gaming space
- 11:04recently.
- 11:05What's going on with that? What
- 11:06happened?
- 11:08>> Well, I don't know, man. I I was
- 11:10Minecraft boy. I loved my Minecraft and
- 11:13I still do love my Minecraft, honestly.
- 11:15It's It's good I haven't played it in a
- 11:16hot minute, but it's it's I didn't fall
- 11:18out of love with it. It's just I just I
- 11:21don't know. I I I basically
- 11:23was around 2023, I kind of said to
- 11:26myself that like video gaming was like a
- 11:30great format and I still watch loads of
- 11:32video game YouTube, but I just it it was
- 11:35no longer exciting me in the same way as
- 11:37like, you know, other ventures were. I
- 11:39was I was I was watching different
- 11:42stuff. I was kind of exploring different
- 11:44outlets and I was finding that actually
- 11:46gaming stuff was feeling a bit
- 11:47disingenuous. It was a bit like a means
- 11:49to an end and it's like I don't like
- 11:51doing things as a means to an end. So,
- 11:54>> But it is a great medium where you can
- 11:56just sit there and like
- 11:58if you have nothing to talk about,
- 11:59nothing to like nothing going on, you
- 12:01can just like riff while gaming easy.
- 12:04>> Yeah.
- 12:05>> Yeah.
- 12:05>> [clears throat]
- 12:05>> I still play like GeoGuessr on stream. I
- 12:08I do every stream I play a bit of
- 12:09GeoGuessr.
- 12:11Uh I got to master two rank on GeoGuessr
- 12:13recently. That was pretty good.
- 12:15>> Pretty good. That's pretty like light.
- 12:17That's I don't know. It's like gaming
- 12:19like I play a lot of solitaire or
- 12:21something.
- 12:22>> [laughter]
- 12:23>> Oh, is it?
- 12:24I don't know. GeoGuessr feels a bit more
- 12:26higher concept than solitaire.
- 12:28Like I I'm not just like I'm playing
- 12:30against other people. Like competitive
- 12:31GeoGuessr I'm talking here. Like I'm
- 12:33talking one-v-one.
- 12:34>> competitive GeoGuessr?
- 12:36>> Not like professionally, but yeah.
- 12:38>> Yeah.
- 12:39>> Have you ever done
- 12:40>> [clears throat]
- 12:40>> Where is this?
- 12:41>> No, I'm not on the spectrum. I don't
- 12:42play that [ __ ]
- 12:43>> [laughter]
- 12:45>> I'm not like have I mean I'm a little
- 12:46bit
- 12:47I'm a little bit. I have I had my my
- 12:50friend Hugo told me he's like there's
- 12:52cuz I I was like
- 12:53he said, "There's a weird trend of AD
- 12:57ADHD women marrying guys with autism."
- 13:01Cuz his wife is ADHD and he has autism
- 13:04and he was implying that
- 13:06you know, my wife has ADHD
- 13:08and that I have autism and I'm like
- 13:11I'm normal. What are you talking about?
- 13:13And he was like there's no way you have
- 13:15more than like 100 hours on Kenshi
- 13:17without being on the spectrum.
- 13:19And [clears throat] I was like, "You
- 13:20know what, dude? I did I did sit back a
- 13:22little bit." And I was like, "That's
- 13:24probably 100% true. I don't think
- 13:26anybody plays that game for any longer
- 13:27than like 20 hours
- 13:30without being at least like a little bit
- 13:32like uh
- 13:34you turn into a guy who was playing with
- 13:35like Warhammer figurines. You're like,
- 13:37"I'm going over here now and I'm going
- 13:38to I'm going to conquer and I'm going to
- 13:40add these people to my roster."
- 13:42>> Yeah.
- 13:43>> And you start dressing them up and
- 13:44everything.
- 13:46And I got really into it. So, maybe on
- 13:48the spectrum a little bit, but not
- 13:49enough to play GeoGuessr. That's a
- 13:51different type of on the spectrum.
- 13:52That's like Alan Turing level spectrum.
- 13:55>> Yeah.
- 13:56>> Yeah, that's it feels that everyone
- 13:57everyone who's got their sort of
- 13:59hyperfixation likes to think the other
- 14:01hyperfixations are more autistic than
- 14:03their one. So, to me Kenshi [laughter]
- 14:05is like way more autistic than
- 14:07GeoGuessr.
- 14:08>> That's just objectively wrong. Poob, get
- 14:09my back.
- 14:11>> Um
- 14:12wrong and [laughter]
- 14:14I kind of treat Sam but Sam's right, of
- 14:16course.
- 14:16>> Yeah.
- 14:18Well, we're Americans so we rely on
- 14:19democracy and we outnumber you right now
- 14:21so we're right.
- 14:23>> That is yeah, to be fair.
- 14:24>> That's how it works.
- 14:25>> Yeah, actually yeah, no you're right.
- 14:27I'm I'm autistic.
- 14:28>> if later a little bit of GeoGuessr, but
- 14:30out of respect for Sam, I
- 14:33I only paid paid for a subscription for
- 14:35like 1 month.
- 14:36>> You There's a subscription for
- 14:38GeoGuessr?
- 14:38>> I was playing with my friends and uh
- 14:42we were just having we were just bored.
- 14:44>> What the hell?
- 14:45>> It's not like that. I wasn't playing it
- 14:46seriously, [laughter]
- 14:47dude. Don't worry.
- 14:48>> You sound You sound like a lot No,
- 14:50seriously, guys. Like I promise. I
- 14:52>> [laughter]
- 14:52>> I didn't I wasn't playing it for too
- 14:53long.
- 14:54>> And it was pretty hard so
- 14:56>> Yeah.
- 14:57>> But when you get one really close, it
- 14:59does feel
- 15:01it's pretty good.
- 15:02>> Yeah.
- 15:03And I just love I love
- 15:05maps.
- 15:06Big map guy.
- 15:08Yeah.
- 15:09>> But your what's your favorite country
- 15:11you've been to since you've been on tour
- 15:12so much?
- 15:15>> Oh my god. What in what way? Like
- 15:19>> Well, I mean everybody views travel a
- 15:20different way. Some people love to go
- 15:22see cities and experience cultures. I
- 15:24mean, that's relative to you, but of the
- 15:26of the places you visited,
- 15:28which one were you like, that was a
- 15:29banger. That place rocked.
- 15:33>> I mean, Japan was sick. That was like
- 15:352024, we did a tour of Japan. We did
- 15:38Osaka, Tokyo. That was so cool. That was
- 15:41like I went on the bullet train. That
- 15:43was cool as [ __ ] Went and saw like the
- 15:45deer, you know the deer that bow to you.
- 15:48Seeing that all that [ __ ] That was
- 15:49really cool. I like Thailand. Thailand
- 15:51was really cool. Bangkok. That was fun.
- 15:54That was really That was the same tour.
- 15:56Uh
- 15:57Honestly though, I'm I'm This is going
- 15:58to You guys are going to laugh. You guys
- 16:00are going to make fun of me, but I'm the
- 16:01biggest Ameriboo
- 16:04you're going to meet.
- 16:06I'm obsessed with America. American
- 16:08culture, American history. I I wrote I
- 16:10wrote history papers on the Civil Rights
- 16:13Movement in America and the and sort of
- 16:15I can list every president of the United
- 16:18States. All right. So, my So, there it
- 16:20is. My favorite country to go to is the
- 16:22United States. I'm
- 16:23>> Who's your favorite president?
- 16:26>> Probably Lincoln. Easily.
- 16:27>> Lincoln, yeah. Yeah, he's he's hard to
- 16:29beat, dude. He's a top three.
- 16:32>> Wrong.
- 16:33>> Who's your least Who's your least?
- 16:36>> Oh, I mean, only the boring answers.
- 16:38Buchanan, you know. Johnson, Andrew
- 16:41Johnson.
- 16:41>> Harding.
- 16:43>> Harding?
- 16:44>> Yeah. Warren G. Harding.
- 16:46>> What's wrong What's wrong with him? I
- 16:47actually don't know much about him.
- 16:48>> He's just like a reprehensible person.
- 16:51He's just like a bad
- 16:52Yeah, just kind of like a bad guy.
- 16:55>> Oh, yeah. He wasn't he cheated on his
- 16:56wife, right? And had like a extramarital
- 16:59affair with like his assistant or
- 17:01something. Not for the Not for the last
- 17:03time, he is.
- 17:03>> [laughter]
- 17:04>> Yeah.
- 17:04>> Maybe one of the worst things a
- 17:06president's ever done. I just don't know
- 17:08what he did aside from that.
- 17:11>> What about um
- 17:13Do you know anything about Grant?
- 17:15>> Yeah.
- 17:16>> Yeah, Grant's cool cuz he's like like
- 17:18probably one of the better people that
- 17:20had like one of the worst presidencies.
- 17:23>> [clears throat]
- 17:24>> You know, he was like But people just
- 17:26loved him.
- 17:28>> Yeah. I think he he had one job and that
- 17:30was just don't be like Andrew Johnson.
- 17:33>> [laughter]
- 17:33>> Yeah, he
- 17:34he enabled a lot of corruption. Like he
- 17:36was a He was kind of a corruption
- 17:38magnet.
- 17:38>> kind of like used though?
- 17:41>> Yeah, people took advantage of him.
- 17:43Yeah, yeah, totally.
- 17:44>> He was a juice dog.
- 17:46>> Yeah, but
- 17:47you know, yeah, if you're if if you
- 17:49aspire to get to that seat, you do have
- 17:51to have the iron fist, I feel like of
- 17:53like
- 17:55No, not under my watch. You are
- 17:57responsible for things that happen under
- 17:59your your watch and your administration,
- 18:01I feel like.
- 18:03And uh
- 18:04He kind of he kind of [ __ ] up as cool
- 18:06of a guy as he is.
- 18:08>> Yeah, he just liked drinking and
- 18:09shooting. Didn't they That was his whole
- 18:10thing.
- 18:11>> Yeah, he's kind of a badass. Total
- 18:13badass. [laughter]
- 18:15>> He was just like mates with Lincoln. He
- 18:16was just like Lincoln's like best mate.
- 18:18That's why he was just like they That's
- 18:19why they picked him.
- 18:21>> But who was that guy that um Omid hated?
- 18:24Who We talked about it in the on the the
- 18:26road trip.
- 18:27>> Oh my god. It was like someone Oh, it
- 18:30was
- 18:31uh
- 18:31>> He just died.
- 18:33>> Was it Jimmy Carter?
- 18:35>> Yeah, Jimmy Carter.
- 18:36>> Yeah, I was like, "Who's your least
- 18:38favorite president?" He's like, "That
- 18:39[ __ ] snake, Jimmy Carter. I [ __ ]
- 18:41hate this guy." Like he was so like I've
- 18:43I've heard a lot of people say like
- 18:44great guy, great human being, but just
- 18:47like a and like his his term was just
- 18:51It was like a
- 18:52He just wasn't able to accomplish
- 18:53anything. He was a bad president, bad
- 18:55politician.
- 18:56>> Yeah.
- 18:56>> Omid came at him like he wanted to blow
- 18:58his [ __ ] head off. He was like, "That
- 19:00[ __ ] snake. That piece of shit."
- 19:02>> Well, was he like a Was he like a
- 19:03Reaganite or something? Is that
- 19:04>> No, it's very specifically because of
- 19:07how Jimmy Carter dealt with uh
- 19:11Islamic revolution or something.
- 19:13>> Yeah, like he enabled like
- 19:16I don't know. Like the [ __ ] Armenian
- 19:17genocide or something. I forgot I forgot
- 19:19what the hell it was.
- 19:20>> It had to do with Iran cuz that's
- 19:22>> Yeah.
- 19:23>> where I mean his family's from.
- 19:25>> Right.
- 19:25>> Yeah, he enabled like an Iranian regime
- 19:27change and it like [ __ ] over Iran.
- 19:31>> My knowledge of [clears throat] Carter's
- 19:32that he just had [ __ ] all to do. He had
- 19:34nothing going on and he still [ __ ] it
- 19:35up.
- 19:36>> Yeah.
- 19:37>> [laughter]
- 19:37>> We told him he was wrong though.
- 19:40>> Yeah, I was like, well, cuz we were in
- 19:41Georgia. So we're like in his home turf.
- 19:43I was like, you keep that [ __ ] down,
- 19:45dude.
- 19:45>> It must have been hard for him cuz there
- 19:46was [ __ ] about him everywhere.
- 19:48[laughter]
- 19:50>> We should have driven by the big peanut
- 19:52statue. Have you seen that?
- 19:54It's like his presidential statue is
- 19:56just a giant peanut with teeth and it's
- 19:58awesome.
- 19:58>> with the lips?
- 19:59>> Yeah.
- 20:00>> Yeah, I heard he streams now.
- 20:01>> I got to see this. Jimmy Carter's the
- 20:04peanut streams?
- 20:05>> Yeah, that giant [clears throat] peanut.
- 20:06>> Oh, yeah, the peanut guy.
- 20:07>> Yeah.
- 20:09He's got a live stream now.
- 20:10>> He's doing like a nod to Jimmy Carter?
- 20:13>> [laughter]
- 20:14>> Yeah, I think the big peanut's a big
- 20:15Jimmy Carter head.
- 20:16>> Wow, this peanut statue is
- 20:18horrific.
- 20:19>> Yeah. Apparently Jimmy himself hated it.
- 20:22>> It's got lips and no eyes or [laughter]
- 20:24anything.
- 20:26>> He was like, what the [ __ ] Like
- 20:27everybody else gets a cool statue, I get
- 20:29a stupid peanut in the middle of like
- 20:31Georgia farm country.
- 20:32>> like an alien peanut or something. Like
- 20:34it looks
- 20:35>> [clears throat]
- 20:35>> horrific.
- 20:36>> Yeah.
- 20:38>> It's not even that big.
- 20:39>> No, it's not.
- 20:40>> It's like 10 ft tall.
- 20:41>> It might be
- 20:43Yeah, I think like in the grand scheme
- 20:45of things, if you're thinking about the
- 20:46prestige
- 20:47of being president,
- 20:50I think it's the worst statue, but if
- 20:52you're thinking about just like
- 20:53cool factor, it might be the coolest
- 20:55statue that has been given to a
- 20:57president.
- 20:57>> It's not gaudy.
- 20:59>> No, it's not. And in like 100 years,
- 21:02they're going to look
- 21:02>> And they made a peanut statue of him for
- 21:05>> What does guy looked like, we have no
- 21:06idea. All that's left is this like an
- 21:09Ozymandias like all that's left is this
- 21:11[laughter] peanut. Like what the hell
- 21:13does the guy even look like?
- 21:14>> Look upon my works, you
- 21:16>> One second.
- 21:17>> [laughter]
- 21:18>> Yeah.
- 21:20And it's just [ __ ] stupid peanut out
- 21:22in the
- 21:23>> Dude, he's he's turning into a shuriken.
- 21:25>> You see [clears throat] me?
- 21:25>> Yeah, I think he had to go change his
- 21:27his laundry or something. He ran.
- 21:29>> Oh, laundry.
- 21:30>> Yeah, cuz we we were supposed to do this
- 21:31yesterday and then I [ __ ] up the
- 21:33scheduling.
- 21:35And and he's supposed to leave today to
- 21:37go somewhere and so I thought you went
- 21:39to go change your laundry over.
- 21:40>> No, I'll do that in
- 21:42in a little bit. I mean, no I won't.
- 21:44I'll be using the bathroom at some point
- 21:45though.
- 21:46>> We're incredibly professional. We would
- 21:48never schedule a laundry change in the
- 21:50middle of an episode.
- 21:51>> Especially when it's all the way in the
- 21:53creepy basement. I don't go down there a
- 21:56lot.
- 21:57>> Mr. Moneybags over here with a basement.
- 21:59>> Every house in Indiana has a basement.
- 22:02>> My house has a basement.
- 22:03>> rip through, you can go take shelter.
- 22:06>> I'm in a basement right now.
- 22:08>> Yeah. In my basement right now, my
- 22:10basement doesn't look like that. Okay,
- 22:12my basement looks like a cellar.
- 22:14>> Yeah, you you walk in the the you walk
- 22:16in the front and you're on the second
- 22:18story and then the lot slopes down so
- 22:21that on the back you walk out the
- 22:23basement.
- 22:23>> It's not a real it's not a real
- 22:25basement.
- 22:26>> Yeah. Real basements are dark
- 22:28and they're scary.
- 22:30>> Yeah.
- 22:31>> And the stairs are creaky and they
- 22:33flood.
- 22:35>> Mine floods [clears throat] sometimes.
- 22:37>> Not the cool part though, the creaky
- 22:39[laughter] that's room I'd call a real
- 22:41basement. Your real basement room
- 22:43flooded.
- 22:44>> Yeah, I don't know if I talked about
- 22:46that.
- 22:47No, I have like in between my garage and
- 22:50where I am right now, there's like a
- 22:52weird sliver of unfinished basement that
- 22:56you can go through like a hobbit door
- 22:58into. It's like so tiny. Yeah, I call it
- 23:01the dungeon. My kids are scared of it.
- 23:03They're terrified cuz it's like a hidden
- 23:04little door and you go down there and
- 23:06you're just in like this weird
- 23:07unfinished area.
- 23:08And I
- 23:11I thought I was going to be so [ __ ]
- 23:12slick and I was like I was using it for
- 23:14storage cuz there's like a weird
- 23:15foundation like half wall that's like 4
- 23:17ft off the ground and I was putting all
- 23:19these like
- 23:21old ass photos in there in a cardboard
- 23:23box. And and when I went to go bring
- 23:25them in there I was like, "You know
- 23:26what? This is the stupidest [ __ ] in the
- 23:28world. Everybody puts
- 23:30like family heirloom stuff in a
- 23:32cardboard box, puts it in the basement
- 23:34and it gets flooded and ruined. I'm
- 23:36going to be better than that. I'm going
- 23:37to put it up on this wall
- 23:39cuz there's no way the water level's
- 23:41going to reach 5 ft high without
- 23:43completely flooding this room that I'm
- 23:44in now.
- 23:46And uh
- 23:47I had it in there for about a month
- 23:50and one of my copper pipes got a tiny
- 23:52little hole in it about this big and it
- 23:54like sprayed water up into the subfloor
- 23:59and then rained down onto the cardboard
- 24:01box and the only thing that got
- 24:03completely destroyed was this cardboard
- 24:05box of photos
- 24:06that were like some of them were like 80
- 24:08years old. Like they're old as [ __ ]
- 24:10photos in the world.
- 24:12And one of them, the one that got ruined
- 24:13that was on top was
- 24:15my grandfather accepting an award from
- 24:17the governor and he looks so swag cuz it
- 24:19was in like 1973 so he's got like bell
- 24:22bottoms on and he's got big like [ __ ]
- 24:25sideburns and everything and he's like
- 24:27giant
- 24:29he almost looks like Who's the fat guy
- 24:30from um
- 24:32uh Ocean's 11?
- 24:33>> I knew you were going to say that. I
- 24:35[ __ ] What's his name? Reuben or
- 24:37something?
- 24:37>> Reuben, yeah. He had like Reuben's
- 24:39glasses from Ocean's 11 but then was
- 24:42wearing like a suit that you would see
- 24:45in like a 1970s detective movie and just
- 24:48like great hair and everything.
- 24:50>> Sounds like a great picture. I'd love to
- 24:51see it.
- 24:52>> awesome picture. Well, it's ruined now.
- 24:53It's gone.
- 24:54>> Did you scan it? Did you digitize them?
- 24:57>> Have you ever digitized photos before?
- 25:00It is a long, arduous process and
- 25:03>> Oh.
- 25:04But, I know you have that really nice
- 25:07scanner.
- 25:08>> Nice-ness has nothing to do with like
- 25:10how long it takes. Like it is nice.
- 25:12>> three pictures on there, probably. Maybe
- 25:15even four.
- 25:16>> I theoretically could and then what?
- 25:18Just like
- 25:19cry like cut them out individually
- 25:21afterwards? It just seems like a huge
- 25:23process and like
- 25:25Yeah. I think that was like one of the
- 25:26one photos where I was like, "That's
- 25:28[ __ ] awesome." I'm so It sucks that I
- 25:29lost it.
- 25:31>> [clears throat]
- 25:31>> Yeah.
- 25:32>> Whatever.
- 25:33>> It's You're not a very good steward of
- 25:36the past.
- 25:37>> I try to be though.
- 25:39I I
- 25:39I have a very
- 25:41uh
- 25:42uh what what's what's the word for like
- 25:44when you you have
- 25:46like something has value only to you
- 25:48because of the
- 25:49Yeah, I have a I have a sentiment
- 25:52a sentimental nature towards like family
- 25:55history and stuff. I try to take care of
- 25:56this [ __ ]
- 25:58and uh and then it gets destroyed under
- 26:00my watch.
- 26:02>> What an insult by the way, Poob. You
- 26:04>> [laughter]
- 26:05>> You're a bad No, it's like you're you're
- 26:06a bad steward of history. No one ever
- 26:09called me that. I
- 26:10>> [laughter]
- 26:11>> I'd end it all.
- 26:12>> I knew it'd hurt him, so
- 26:15I could sit here all day and call him
- 26:17insults and they they would just bounce
- 26:19right off of him, but [laughter] if I
- 26:21dig into something I know he loves
- 26:23>> Yeah. There's some There's some direct
- 26:26attacks on my character that just they
- 26:28just tear me down and calling me a poor
- 26:31steward of history,
- 26:33that's one of them. That's like That's
- 26:35like telling me I have a micro penis.
- 26:36That's worse.
- 26:37>> [laughter]
- 26:37>> It's worse than telling me I have a
- 26:38micro penis.
- 26:40So,
- 26:41thanks for that.
- 26:42>> Because I know that's not true.
- 26:45>> Thank you.
- 26:46Yeah. [laughter]
- 26:47And you also have a huge one.
- 26:51Yeah.
- 26:52We went camping together and we made a
- 26:54pact with Omeed that we won't discuss
- 26:56what the pact was.
- 26:57>> Whatever we do to Omeed, he gets to do
- 26:59right back to us.
- 27:02>> No, I meant the pact was that we each
- 27:03lie about
- 27:05>> [laughter]
- 27:05>> about how giant our penises are.
- 27:06>> Oh, yeah.
- 27:08Omeed's was like
- 27:11>> [laughter]
- 27:12>> and I'm talking width.
- 27:13>> Out of frame, yeah.
- 27:15>> It's like you've gone fishing. You're
- 27:16talking about it like a
- 27:17>> [laughter]
- 27:17>> like it's like a cod.
- 27:18>> you hold it up really close to the
- 27:20camera. You're thumbing it.
- 27:22>> You'll tend to bio now.
- 27:24>> [laughter]
- 27:25>> That would be an awesome I mean, you
- 27:27couldn't put it on Tinder, but a picture
- 27:28of you holding your penis out here.
- 27:30>> Yeah. [laughter] Like a mosaic.
- 27:32>> Like so it looks like a macro photo.
- 27:34Looks huge.
- 27:35>> Like 10 ft long.
- 27:37>> [laughter]
- 27:40>> Yeah.
- 27:42>> Ew. Thumb in the hole. Yeah, looks
- 27:44gross.
- 27:45>> [laughter]
- 27:46>> Like a smallmouth.
- 27:47>> Yeah.
- 27:48>> Uh
- 27:49>> No, so
- 27:50>> What state did you like the most when
- 27:51you came over here? Since you're like an
- 27:52Ameri- American What What do you call
- 27:54it? American file? American file?
- 27:56>> American file.
- 27:58>> The freedom file?
- 28:00Yeah. What's your favorite state here?
- 28:02New York?
- 28:03>> New York.
- 28:04>> New York. New York.
- 28:05>> This guy didn't fully He didn't fully
- 28:07embrace everything. He told He told me
- 28:09he went to Wyoming and he just stopped
- 28:10at a truck stop really quick.
- 28:12>> [laughter]
- 28:13>> I mean, you told me on the podcast
- 28:14Indianapolis was a sleeper and now
- 28:16you're picking New York.
- 28:17>> Yeah, now he's picking New York. His
- 28:18only exposure to Wyoming wasn't even
- 28:20Yellowstone. He was just like saw a
- 28:21truck stop.
- 28:22>> Wasn't that beautiful.
- 28:23>> I don't I don't count that I've been to
- 28:24Wyoming. I don't think I've been to
- 28:26Wyoming, yeah. But I I passed through
- 28:28there and I went to a truck stop. Maybe
- 28:29I'd love Wyoming, you know? They've got
- 28:31a cool flag. They've got like a bull on
- 28:33there. They've got like a like a buffalo
- 28:34on their flag. It's cool as hell.
- 28:35>> But saying New York's your favorite
- 28:37state is like when when you go like,
- 28:38"Hey, what's your favorite band?" and
- 28:39people go, "The Beatles."
- 28:42It's [laughter] like, "Okay, well, let
- 28:43me hear your second favorite, [ __ ]
- 28:45How about that? Let me get like an
- 28:46actual
- 28:47>> favorite state, You're going to hate me.
- 28:48>> Cuz I actually [laughter] do have a
- 28:49ranking.
- 28:50>> Okay, what's your ranking?
- 28:52>> Second place is California.
- 28:54>> Okay, California is actually that's a
- 28:55that's a good pick. Cuz California has
- 28:57such a
- 28:58it's got such a varied everything. It's
- 29:00like a Minecraft world. It's got every
- 29:02biome.
- 29:03>> I will say New York is pretty cool.
- 29:05Yeah.
- 29:06>> Upstate New York can can go away as far
- 29:08as I'm concerned. I've never
- 29:10I've been to Albany.
- 29:12>> The Catskill Mountains are cool.
- 29:14>> I've never been to the Catskills, but I
- 29:16want to go there.
- 29:16>> But like Albany up there it does suck.
- 29:19Like Buffalo.
- 29:21>> I'd walk around Albany. I I would I had
- 29:233 days in like a hotel in Albany.
- 29:26And it was like just like it was a very
- 29:30kind of like
- 29:31like dying area of Albany. It was like
- 29:34you know it was like off the off an off
- 29:36ramp. And it was just like like the
- 29:37entire place was just like run down.
- 29:39Like boarded up walls and [ __ ] There
- 29:41was a There was a Waffle House that had
- 29:43all the windows smashed. And I just
- 29:45always saw people fighting in this
- 29:46abandoned like waffle like restaurant.
- 29:50And um I remember this hotel I was in it
- 29:53had like
- 29:53>> state dependent by the way. People
- 29:55fighting in Waffle House. That's
- 29:57That's nationwide. That's the point.
- 30:00Yeah.
- 30:00>> It's bad ass.
- 30:02>> Yeah. That's like going there's homeless
- 30:03people in the homeless shelter. Could
- 30:05you believe that? Like it's a Waffle
- 30:06House. Of course they're going to be
- 30:08fighting in there.
- 30:09You're supposed to fight with the staff
- 30:10by the way. The The people that cook the
- 30:12food they fight you.
- 30:14>> The staff were all gone. They were there
- 30:16there was an exodus. It was It was just
- 30:18smashed windows and two people having a
- 30:21having it out.
- 30:22>> That's where you hash out. That's how we
- 30:23do things in America. You say you got a
- 30:25problem with me? Meet me down the street
- 30:26at the Waffle House. Let's go.
- 30:28>> the It's the modern coliseum.
- 30:30>> Yeah.
- 30:30>> [laughter]
- 30:31>> Did you guys have one of those in your
- 30:33hometown? Like a place where
- 30:35beef was squashed. We had a very
- 30:36specific place where people
- 30:37[clears throat] would be like meet me at
- 30:39blank.
- 30:40And then you go there to to fight.
- 30:43>> Was it Tesco's car park?
- 30:44>> I never went.
- 30:46>> You know, did you ever get called out
- 30:48and asked to
- 30:49>> I'd go there just to hang out cuz it was
- 30:50also like a social place and people It's
- 30:52like a fight club.
- 30:54>> Yeah.
- 30:54>> They'd see you. They'd see I was weak
- 30:56and [snorts]
- 30:57they'd chase me out of there.
- 30:58>> Chase me out of there.
- 31:00>> No, I never got called out to I mean,
- 31:02but it's like a fun We'll still say it
- 31:04like if my friends from my hometown like
- 31:06if you get in an argument in a video
- 31:07game
- 31:08meet me there.
- 31:10Beep blank place.
- 31:12And so you know what that means.
- 31:14Means you're going to get your head
- 31:15[ __ ] stomped in.
- 31:16>> Yeah. In between the the school and the
- 31:20bus ramp was like a covered awning
- 31:23in middle school and that's where like
- 31:25>> good place for a battle.
- 31:27>> Yeah, the covered awning was a That was
- 31:29the
- 31:29>> falling all around you.
- 31:31>> Yeah, that's where all the squabbles
- 31:33were.
- 31:34And cuz like usually they had at the
- 31:36school they had the teachers and at the
- 31:38bus ramp they had the you know, someone
- 31:40to make sure that kids weren't getting
- 31:42flattened by buses, but that stretch of
- 31:45awning in between the two places
- 31:47>> It's like a Mortal Kombat. Like it's
- 31:48very straight, you know, linear.
- 31:51>> Yeah.
- 31:52>> It's good.
- 31:53>> It was no man's land.
- 31:54>> Was it one V one this mainly or
- 31:56>> Yeah, usually and then everybody else
- 31:58would just kind of like they would kind
- 31:59of sit there and watch.
- 32:00>> Or was it ever like clique battles?
- 32:02>> Yeah. No, never never clique battles.
- 32:05>> Band kids versus jocks type stuff. Okay.
- 32:08>> No, I don't think I I don't think in
- 32:09school I ever saw multiple people fight.
- 32:13It was always like
- 32:15It was just like a one V one. Like it
- 32:16was never like these four guys versus
- 32:19these four guys like a like a gangs
- 32:21like a gang fight. It was never like
- 32:23that. It was just
- 32:24This guy pissed me off.
- 32:26>> And then they would just fight. I think
- 32:27one time
- 32:29a guy that was like kind of an
- 32:31acquaintance of mine yeah jumped in the
- 32:32locker room.
- 32:34And I might have thrown a kick in there
- 32:35so cuz he was stealing money out of
- 32:37people's lockers.
- 32:38>> Yeah.
- 32:39>> And he had done it before.
- 32:41And he'd stolen from me. And you know,
- 32:42when you're in like high school, and you
- 32:44get that birthday money,
- 32:46it's like $50. That's like I'm right
- 32:48there. I'm right to a brand new video
- 32:50game.
- 32:51>> Yeah.
- 32:51>> And he did it in junior high and stuff
- 32:53and
- 32:53>> He stole $50 from you?
- 32:56>> I think he over the years, if it was him
- 32:58every time, I lost like $120.
- 33:02>> Jeez.
- 33:03>> Which is enough to like kill.
- 33:05>> Honestly, like at some point that's kind
- 33:06of on you bringing that much to school.
- 33:09>> Well, it wasn't it all at once. And it's
- 33:11also like
- 33:13you know, I just have it like in my
- 33:15wallet or something. Then you put your
- 33:16clothes in there when you go to gym. We
- 33:18didn't have lockers.
- 33:19>> you. Don't let them shame you, Poob.
- 33:21It's not your fault he robbed you.
- 33:23>> [laughter]
- 33:23>> Well, he got his because he robbed like
- 33:25a big ass redneck. There was like dudes
- 33:27in our school that were like they looked
- 33:28like they were damn near 30 cuz they
- 33:30were fifth years or something. And he
- 33:32robbed he just robbed the wrong one. And
- 33:33they beat the [ __ ] out of him.
- 33:35And uh
- 33:36>> [clears throat]
- 33:36>> Oh, yeah. I think he I think he ended up
- 33:38dying from his wounds. So, we never had
- 33:40to deal with that again. [clears throat]
- 33:42And uh
- 33:43>> [laughter]
- 33:44>> Bygones are bygones.
- 33:45>> Have you ever seen a kid like overcome
- 33:48like his stereotype of being a dork and
- 33:50just like whoop someone's ass?
- 33:53>> Oh.
- 33:54>> There was a kid that got his iPad
- 33:56stolen.
- 33:57And or not his iPad, his his iPod. His
- 34:00iPod. And it got stolen and then he he
- 34:04was just kind of like a a kid that
- 34:05played tennis.
- 34:07And he was kind of like just a lanky
- 34:09dork.
- 34:10And
- 34:12he
- 34:14No, I actually almost kind of looked
- 34:15like Wilbur a little bit. But
- 34:17It like no no offense. Like just guy
- 34:19that you're not expecting to like kick
- 34:21someone's ass. Sorry. [laughter]
- 34:22>> You're painting me a good picture.
- 34:23>> Yeah. And [clears throat] um
- 34:25>> Total nerd.
- 34:26>> Yeah. But his name was like Warrington
- 34:28or something. Warrington. Anyways, he
- 34:31His name was like Wilbur or something.
- 34:34This
- 34:35>> [laughter]
- 34:35>> This guy stole his iPod and then he saw
- 34:38him with the iPod the next day
- 34:40and he was just like shamelessly like
- 34:42this is mine now using the same
- 34:44headphones and everything.
- 34:46And
- 34:47>> It's kind of a power play.
- 34:48>> Yeah, and
- 34:50that skinny little [ __ ] beat the [ __ ]
- 34:52out of him publicly. Like just beat the
- 34:54[ __ ] out of him and then like to the
- 34:56like a fight where after it was over he
- 35:00the guy was on the floor and then he was
- 35:02able to go through his backpack and get
- 35:03the iPod.
- 35:05>> That's awesome.
- 35:06>> It wasn't like a squabble
- 35:07where he kind of won and then the
- 35:09teachers pulled them apart and everybody
- 35:10was like okay, you got more hits in that
- 35:12was a win. Like it was a decisive
- 35:14victory.
- 35:15Yeah,
- 35:15>> [laughter]
- 35:15>> yeah guy was
- 35:16on the GROUND GOING LIKE
- 35:19AND HE WENT THROUGH HIS [ __ ] BACKPACK
- 35:20and got it and he I don't think he ever
- 35:22said a word.
- 35:23That was the crazy part cuz usually like
- 35:26that's a power move. Usually if you get
- 35:27into a fight you're just like
- 35:30[ __ ] Like you're going to say
- 35:31something and it's usually going to ruin
- 35:33it. It was just a
- 35:34quiet beat down.
- 35:36>> That's that's so cool.
- 35:38>> It's it's quite it's interesting that
- 35:39stuck with you. The fact that it was
- 35:41quiet.
- 35:42>> It was very quiet beat down. And
- 35:44[clears throat] then he just he got his
- 35:45iPod.
- 35:47Yeah. It was really bad. Did it frighten
- 35:49you?
- 35:49>> Did it unnerve [snorts] you? Did it make
- 35:51you uncomfortable in the slightest?
- 35:52>> ever [ __ ] with him again.
- 35:54After that. Yeah, everybody there was
- 35:56kind of like a respect. It You know what
- 35:58it was? Have you ever seen Gladiator?
- 36:01>> Yeah.
- 36:02>> It was after he takes off his helmet and
- 36:04he goes I'm Maximus Meridius and then
- 36:07like later it's in between Gladiator
- 36:09fights and they're at the training camp
- 36:11and like when Maximus walks through the
- 36:13camp and everybody's like
- 36:14general, general. Like people like gave
- 36:16him like a reverence after he kicked
- 36:19this guy's ass cuz before he was just
- 36:20like
- 36:22like almost like a nobody and then after
- 36:23that it was like
- 36:25that guy kind of kicked like a bully's
- 36:26ass in front of everybody, didn't ask
- 36:28for help, didn't make a big show out of
- 36:31it.
- 36:32Just kind of did it.
- 36:33>> the rep grind, man.
- 36:34>> Yeah.
- 36:34>> He's exalted with the
- 36:36>> Yeah.
- 36:37>> Definitely said this before on here, but
- 36:40I had a way I could have done that, but
- 36:43I didn't feel like killing a kid.
- 36:45But one time a guy stole my hoodie and
- 36:47then gave it to his disgusting
- 36:49girlfriend that they like chain-smoked
- 36:51cigarettes in junior high.
- 36:53And they had to go She She wore it the
- 36:55next day.
- 36:56And I I
- 36:58>> You should have beat her up.
- 36:59>> I should have gone over there and hit
- 37:00her, but instead I told I told my
- 37:02friend, I'm like, "That guy's got my
- 37:04hoodie." And then he went over there and
- 37:06dealt with it for me.
- 37:07>> her back like Bane. He picked her up.
- 37:10>> He threw her through a brick wall and
- 37:12then her
- 37:13her boyfriend just [ __ ] pissed his
- 37:15pants.
- 37:16>> My head.
- 37:17>> Yeah.
- 37:19Well, he just went over to where her
- 37:21boyfriend was like, "That's Sam's. Give
- 37:23it back." The guy was like, "Jesus
- 37:24Christ."
- 37:26And uh yeah, really cool dude. He
- 37:28He totally got my [ __ ] back for me and
- 37:31>> That doesn't really make you sound like
- 37:33a hero if you go like, "Go get my
- 37:35hoodie, baby."
- 37:35>> a hero. It's It's actually [laughter] a
- 37:37tale of the opposite is what the point
- 37:39is.
- 37:39>> I've had that exact same story happen,
- 37:41but with somebody stole my Pokémon cards
- 37:44and I had my neighbor who was older than
- 37:46me go over there and get them back. And
- 37:48he was like, "You took his Pokémon
- 37:50cards." And he actually broke into his
- 37:52house to get them back and then slapped
- 37:53him.
- 37:54>> Oh.
- 37:55>> I was I was just kidding, dude.
- 37:58I was Yeah.
- 37:59>> I was in that guy's pocket for a while.
- 38:01After that I was holding it, he
- 38:03pulled it out and I'd walk around with
- 38:05it.
- 38:05>> If [laughter] you slap a kid and break
- 38:07into a house to get my Magmar card back,
- 38:09[ __ ]
- 38:09>> I'm yours.
- 38:10>> I'm yours, dude.
- 38:11>> For a life.
- 38:11>> homie.
- 38:13>> [clears throat]
- 38:14>> Yeah.
- 38:15It's actually pretty tragic. That guy
- 38:17that did that for me ended up dying.
- 38:19Uh like I don't know.
- 38:20>> being serious?
- 38:21>> Well, not You didn't kill a kid, but the
- 38:23guy that my hero ended up passing away
- 38:26like
- 38:26post high school.
- 38:28It's sad.
- 38:30>> rock
- 38:32>> No. No, he wasn't in the rock.
- 38:35>> [laughter]
- 38:36>> Post high school. No, I don't know how
- 38:38he died.
- 38:39>> You don't even know how he died?
- 38:40>> Probably being a hero.
- 38:41>> Yeah, he's probably trying to get
- 38:43somebody's hoodie back again. There's
- 38:45probably a sniper lined up on me.
- 38:48>> [laughter]
- 38:50>> Yeah, he was he was awesome, dude.
- 38:52>> Yeah, your guardian angel. He He
- 38:53probably
- 38:54>> [laughter]
- 38:54>> He probably died trying to protect you
- 38:56in some way.
- 38:58Yeah, he intercepted some disgruntled
- 39:01patron outside your house and died on
- 39:03the sidewalk and you had no idea.
- 39:05>> Speaking of, I've had a couple recent
- 39:07brushes with uh
- 39:09death in ways that, you know, I didn't
- 39:10want to deal with bird hit my window and
- 39:13totally just killed itself.
- 39:15And I buried it.
- 39:17And it was very sad. And this was the
- 39:20day before my birthday. I told you this
- 39:22on the phone, Sam. And then my mom came
- 39:24the next day and I'm like
- 39:26Yeah, mom was pretty sad I had to bury a
- 39:28bird. And she accosted me. It was like,
- 39:31"You buried a bird? You're supposed to
- 39:33put them in a tree with a pinch of
- 39:34tobacco." I'm like, "What in the [ __ ]
- 39:37are you talking about?" Like
- 39:39I don't want a dead bird in a tree.
- 39:43head up to the grave and say something
- 39:44like
- 39:45like [ __ ] Native American like she
- 39:48went to a Native American church. She's
- 39:50a white woman.
- 39:51And uh
- 39:52Yeah, she was like mad at me.
- 39:54And then you know there's bird species
- 39:56that they lay an egg and it develops
- 39:58faster and then the baby pushes out the
- 40:00other babies.
- 40:02They like take over the nest.
- 40:04That happened in my backyard. Uh and I
- 40:07found a little baby bird and it wasn't
- 40:09ready to fly yet, you know, still like
- 40:11kind of slimy.
- 40:13And I put it back in the nest and a
- 40:15little [ __ ] came out that was like
- 40:16four times its size chirping at me. I'm
- 40:19like, "What the [ __ ] Who the [ __ ] are
- 40:20you?" You know, like this It looked like
- 40:22it was
- 40:23It was much more developed. And I put
- 40:26the baby back in there and I was like,
- 40:28"I did a good thing. Like I'm kind of a
- 40:30hero." And then the next morning it had
- 40:32just pushed it right back out and it
- 40:33died. So then I put it in a tree and I'm
- 40:36like with a cigar.
- 40:38>> With a cigar in its
- 40:39>> Well, I only had a Zen, so I
- 40:41>> [laughter]
- 40:41>> I think it was technically tobacco-free,
- 40:43but I put a Zen in its mouth. And put it
- 40:46up in a tree.
- 40:47And I don't know if I'm I'm sure my
- 40:49mom's going to find some problem with
- 40:50that, too, but
- 40:52>> [laughter]
- 40:53>> it was
- 40:54very sad and grim.
- 40:55>> patch
- 40:57on his chest.
- 40:58>> I like when when I saw these birds
- 41:00making nests, I was like, "Oh, oh my
- 41:02god, like this is beautiful. Like
- 41:04there's going to be little babies."
- 41:05That's the second dead baby bird I
- 41:06found.
- 41:07>> Nature's brutal, dude.
- 41:08>> Yeah, well, it is brutal.
- 41:10I'd say it is brutal, but it's like it's
- 41:12not like I I don't have like a huge
- 41:14yard. Like I don't know why so many
- 41:16birds are dying dying back here.
- 41:19And then I was I was thinking last
- 41:20night, I'm like
- 41:22the bird like you never see a bird just
- 41:24like die of old age. They always hit a
- 41:26[ __ ] window or something. They're
- 41:27like,
- 41:28"Where all the dead Where all the old
- 41:30dead birds going?"
- 41:31>> Like hamsters
- 41:34I don't know. I've never seen a dead
- 41:35bird in the wild.
- 41:38>> I think
- 41:38>> Yeah, it's true. Hamsters do like try to
- 41:40blow themselves up and [ __ ]
- 41:42>> [laughter]
- 41:43>> I think out in nature, I think old age
- 41:45is a very
- 41:47very rare novelty. Yeah.
- 41:50And like a bird, it doesn't get like a
- 41:52gray beard or anything. How the [ __ ] are
- 41:54you going to tell?
- 41:54>> you Yeah, well, do they? I don't know.
- 41:56I've never seen an old beard at all
- 41:58before.
- 41:59>> I would say you've probably seen an old
- 42:00bird. I think you've seen an old bird.
- 42:03>> How old?
- 42:04>> Yeah.
- 42:06Like what is Yeah, like what's like
- 42:07geriatric for like a bird?
- 42:09>> I think it depends cuz like parrots can
- 42:11live to like 80.
- 42:13>> That is actually a good point. I have
- 42:15seen there when back when I was a kid
- 42:17there was a a guy that like on the 4th
- 42:19of July I'd be lighting off fireworks
- 42:22and this [ __ ] crazy old guy would
- 42:23come up the hill
- 42:25uh from like he lived at the end of the
- 42:27road and he always had his parrot on his
- 42:29shoulder and he was like
- 42:31HE'S LIKE THESE FIREWORKS ARE SCARING
- 42:33THE [ __ ] OUT OF MY PARROT. I'M LIKE
- 42:35why'd you bring him out here dude? You
- 42:36live like a half a mile away. Like just
- 42:38go back in your house and
- 42:40>> I
- 42:40>> [laughter]
- 42:40>> put [ __ ] like I don't know put some
- 42:43headphones on it or something. Like this
- 42:44is one day a year.
- 42:46>> Yeah.
- 42:46>> Like let me do my [ __ ] If he's so
- 42:47[ __ ] scared, yeah. If he's so [ __ ]
- 42:49scared don't bring him close to us while
- 42:51we're doing it. You know, it's kind of
- 42:52like a national holiday. Everybody
- 42:54lights fireworks.
- 42:56Um but he would complain and he would
- 42:58call the cops but his parrot was old as
- 43:00[ __ ] and it just looked old. It's like
- 43:03it was just like
- 43:05you know, just like barely holding on.
- 43:07>> That's kind of awesome. Old man with old
- 43:09man bird.
- 43:10>> Yeah, and he was like it's scaring my
- 43:11parrot and I'd look at the parrot and it
- 43:12would just be like I don't
- 43:14like it just didn't give a [ __ ]
- 43:17Yeah, it was very obviously like on
- 43:19death's door step. I don't even think I
- 43:21think it was probably deaf. It probably
- 43:22couldn't even hear the fireworks.
- 43:24I think I I think the fireworks were
- 43:25just interrupting his like
- 43:27Colombo or Rifleman or whatever the [ __ ]
- 43:29he was watching.
- 43:31>> Parrot time.
- 43:32>> Yeah. [laughter]
- 43:34He was like I need to make an excuse.
- 43:36>> I think they they have like little
- 43:37holes, right?
- 43:38>> What do you mean they have ears? Like of
- 43:40course they they communicate by
- 43:42chirping. Of course they have [ __ ]
- 43:44ears.
- 43:46>> Yeah. But an ear is like an append-
- 43:48that's like a thing.
- 43:50>> I don't know. Yeah, but they don't have
- 43:51like the cone. They I think they just
- 43:52have hole.
- 43:53Like Pooh-Bah's saying.
- 43:55>> Bastard.
- 43:56>> I should have inspected the dead birds
- 43:58more closely.
- 43:59>> Yeah.
- 44:00>> Peel back the skin of curiosity.
- 44:02>> Have you guys heard of crow court?
- 44:05>> I'm
- 44:06>> Apparently crows
- 44:08>> listening
- 44:09>> Crows are sophisticated enough that they
- 44:11have what they they deemed as crow
- 44:12court. And it's like if there's a a
- 44:16member of their community
- 44:19that has acted in a bad way
- 44:23>> Whether or not it's yeah uh murdered
- 44:25another bird or
- 44:26>> Oh, I mean aren't they called a murder
- 44:28when they're
- 44:28>> Oh yeah, when there's like a giant yeah
- 44:30group of crows. Yeah, if they it's done
- 44:32something to like piss off the rest of
- 44:34the crows, they will surround it.
- 44:37And then they'll just sit there and like
- 44:38browbeat the hell out of it. They'll all
- 44:40just go like
- 44:41and squawk at it. And then the one in
- 44:43the middle will just be like
- 44:45Like he'll
- 44:46obviously like I'm distressed. Like
- 44:48everybody hates me. And sometimes if if
- 44:52the crime is bad enough Like let's say
- 44:54it's uh been accused or is guilty of
- 44:57like like destroying another bird's eggs
- 45:00or something like that or killing
- 45:01another crow, they will actually just
- 45:04gang up and kill the
- 45:05>> [ __ ]
- 45:05>> They'll they'll just kill the crow.
- 45:06They'll after they scream at it. They'll
- 45:08circle it. They'll do the court thing.
- 45:10And then
- 45:12they will attack it and kill it and
- 45:14leave it.
- 45:15Which I feel like you never see that
- 45:17with others with other animals where
- 45:19like
- 45:19>> do that to like people, right? Cuz
- 45:21there's been a couple of crows around my
- 45:23area.
- 45:24>> think so.
- 45:24>> Like they would never agree to like
- 45:26let's kill that guy.
- 45:28>> [laughter]
- 45:28>> Cuz like if they see a guy that keeps
- 45:29burying birds.
- 45:31>> Yeah.
- 45:31>> You think repeatedly.
- 45:33>> Oh no, they probably saw you burying and
- 45:35they're like he deserves to be up in
- 45:36that tree with a [ __ ] cigarette,
- 45:37dude.
- 45:38>> Yeah.
- 45:38>> He You should have put him up on that
- 45:40branch with a Virginia Slim hanging out
- 45:42of his beak.
- 45:42>> Oh, the bird is right. I thought you
- 45:43meant I deserve to be in a tree with
- 45:46>> No, the crows are pissed. They saw you
- 45:47put him in the dirt. They're upset.
- 45:49>> Well, hopefully they saw me put that
- 45:50baby bird. I'm just also worried I'm
- 45:52like
- 45:53in like a year I'm going to go over to
- 45:54that tree and there's just going to be a
- 45:55little bird skeleton like that's so sad.
- 45:58>> What still up there?
- 45:59>> Oh, maybe I guess I don't know.
- 46:01Something might eat it. Yeah.
- 46:03>> You thought of bad karma. I think they'd
- 46:05let you off. I think you'd be all right.
- 46:09>> Yeah. I did leave that invasive bird in
- 46:12there. It's like I'm not going to
- 46:13I'm not going to walk over there and
- 46:15crush that little baby that's like
- 46:17full grown. But
- 46:18>> No, that's why you got the karma.
- 46:20>> I'm a little angry at that [ __ ] cuz he
- 46:22killed
- 46:23two cuter birds.
- 46:25>> Mhm. That is how it should be.
- 46:28It's called survival of the fittest.
- 46:30>> dude.
- 46:31Yeah.
- 46:31>> Survival of the cutest.
- 46:33>> No, man. It's
- 46:34>> I
- 46:34Survival of the fittest. You're That's
- 46:36like an Achilles bird and you're trying
- 46:38to thwart its ability to conquer the
- 46:40bird world.
- 46:42>> Uh what do you think What do you think
- 46:43is worse?
- 46:44Like the BP oil spill destroying like
- 46:47the natural habitat or you coming in and
- 46:49going, "Oh, these weak little [ __ ]
- 46:51birds, they they're the ones that should
- 46:52survive and have kids." You're
- 46:54perpetuating a weak
- 46:57a weak species that they don't
- 46:58>> I'm perpetuating I've got two bird
- 47:01feeders and I want to see pretty birds
- 47:03eating at them.
- 47:04>> I think meddling in the environment's
- 47:05bad, dude. I think you're basically like
- 47:07a BP oil spill but for your own
- 47:08backyard.
- 47:09>> I haven't done anything like
- 47:10>> Kaczynski birds, man.
- 47:12>> Yeah.
- 47:12>> I think you should have given that the
- 47:14big bird like a
- 47:16>> [laughter]
- 47:16>> I think you should have given him
- 47:17steroids or something. Yeah.
- 47:20>> You get a cigarette even though you're
- 47:21not dead.
- 47:23Cuz I guess birds like tobacco or
- 47:24something.
- 47:25>> Yeah. You should have given him like a
- 47:26peptide drip or something. Got him
- 47:28[ __ ] really badass
- 47:30>> bionic legs.
- 47:31>> [laughter]
- 47:33>> A big car like a carbon-tipped beak.
- 47:35>> Yeah, a metal beak would be awesome.
- 47:38I'm going to bring you into the basement
- 47:40and forge you into something better.
- 47:42>> I'd put razor [clears throat] blades on
- 47:43your [ __ ] wings.
- 47:46>> There are some hawks around here. Yeah,
- 47:47it needs Make it one of those little
- 47:49spiky vests.
- 47:51>> Oh, yeah.
- 47:52I've seen a lot of videos of people
- 47:53having like the the bear suits with
- 47:56spikes on them and then they they go
- 47:58like Have you seen those where you look
- 48:00like a like a [ __ ] but with spikes on
- 48:02you? It's like a full suit of just like
- 48:05super spiky armor.
- 48:07>> Like what little dogs wear to protect
- 48:09them from birds?
- 48:11>> Yeah.
- 48:12And uh
- 48:13and
- 48:14I saw it and it was based off of a
- 48:16Siberian like pelt armor setup that
- 48:20somebody had made so that they could
- 48:21hunt for bears in Siberia without
- 48:24getting killed.
- 48:25>> one.
- 48:25>> Yeah. And then I've been watching all
- 48:27these videos and I'm like these are
- 48:29incredible. It's awesome that it
- 48:30actually works and I probably got like
- 48:3230 videos in before I realized they're
- 48:34all AI generated and I've just been
- 48:37I fell for it. I fell [clears throat]
- 48:38for the entire like I went back and
- 48:39looked at the previous ones and I was
- 48:41like [ __ ] dude.
- 48:43That stupid tiger turned into a lion
- 48:45halfway through the video. I didn't even
- 48:47realize.
- 48:48>> It's so funny on a trampoline moment.
- 48:50Did you get [ __ ] [clears throat] over
- 48:51by the bunnies on the trampoline? That
- 48:53got me.
- 48:54>> No, I didn't.
- 48:55>> Have you you know that
- 48:56>> look at cute [ __ ] I look at badass
- 48:57[ __ ] Like a guy with armor on fighting
- 48:59a [ __ ]
- 49:00>> did make bear armor because he got like
- 49:02attacked by a grizzly bear and it's just
- 49:04a huge It looks like a space suit.
- 49:06>> He looks like Buzz Lightyear. Yeah, he's
- 49:08got like a big like
- 49:09>> looks like a transformer or something.
- 49:11>> But he can't move.
- 49:12>> That's awesome.
- 49:12>> He can't move. He's just like
- 49:14>> purely survive like I don't know when
- 49:16[clears throat] he would have time to
- 49:17put that on.
- 49:18>> Yeah, cuz you can't go on like a nature
- 49:20walk wearing that [ __ ]
- 49:24And if I remember correctly like part of
- 49:25his testing for the prototype, he just
- 49:27got his friend to hit him with a truck.
- 49:29>> Yeah.
- 49:29>> And he gets like thrown 15 ft like this
- 49:32giant outfit on.
- 49:34>> It would be cool just to
- 49:37just to have. Yeah, I'm watching the
- 49:39They just like hit him with baseball
- 49:41bats and they have a a swinging tree hit
- 49:43him.
- 49:44>> Yeah.
- 49:44>> Or something. It He just It's just Okay,
- 49:46it's just AI.
- 49:48He's getting blasted by a car and then
- 49:51they have him just roll down a huge hill
- 49:53like hot rod style.
- 49:55>> I'm going to go refill my water. So, I'm
- 49:57being unprofessional. I know. I need to
- 50:00>> Sam watches this show.
- 50:01>> Is that all right?
- 50:02>> Yeah, that's fine. I'll go That's fine.
- 50:05>> Let my laundry really quick.
- 50:06>> Unprofessional [ __ ] Look who laughed.
- 50:08[laughter]
- 50:09>> I'm going to I'll be right back.
- 50:11>> It's the worst day of my [ __ ] life.
- 50:14This is the worst [ __ ] day
- 50:18my childhood my childhood YouTuber
- 50:21listening to me piss.
- 50:25And he proceeds to [ __ ] comment on my
- 50:27piss stream.
- 50:29>> He was using his AirPods the entire time
- 50:31as his mic.
- 50:31>> know. I didn't realize. I thought I was
- 50:33using this.
- 50:34>> I mean, that would make sense. I don't
- 50:35know. I didn't think about that. But
- 50:36yeah, when he laughed and we could still
- 50:38hear him, really should have been a good
- 50:40indication.
- 50:42>> and it sounded
- 50:44either either you need to work on your
- 50:47hydration or your pee hole is that big
- 50:49around.
- 50:49>> It was
- 50:50>> Which one is it?
- 50:50>> It was a slow start. It was a You know
- 50:52You know You know it's like a cold day
- 50:54and you got to get You got to like
- 50:55[laughter]
- 50:56You got to like You got to like start
- 50:58your car.
- 50:59>> In June? Okay.
- 51:00>> [laughter]
- 51:01>> Dude, you know it is actually a really
- 51:02nice day today. But you know when you
- 51:03got like cold day and you got to like
- 51:05warm your car up first before you can
- 51:06drive. That's the
- 51:08That's what I had.
- 51:09>> [laughter]
- 51:10>> Okay.
- 51:11>> Come on. Come on.
- 51:12>> Yeah.
- 51:13>> I mean
- 51:14>> Come on. They're listening.
- 51:15>> [laughter]
- 51:18>> Dude, I honestly like I feel like my my
- 51:21first sign of old age is is the
- 51:23inability to stop my pee. Like it used
- 51:26to just be I would just I would get in
- 51:28there and I'd go
- 51:29and then it would just I was done and I
- 51:32almost didn't even have to shake. I was
- 51:33just like the pee is gone. But now it's
- 51:36like I'm going to I'm going to dribble
- 51:39for just a little bit.
- 51:41>> I don't think I'm there yet.
- 51:42>> You're not there yet?
- 51:43>> No, not yet.
- 51:44>> No.
- 51:46>> I'll let you know.
- 51:46>> And then I sit there and just go like
- 51:49I got you.
- 51:49>> to get every little bit of it out.
- 51:51>> You go do more Kegels. I have to ban all
- 51:53all khakis.
- 51:54>> Do I need to do Kegels? Is that what it
- 51:56>> to do Kegels, man. You can start right
- 51:58now. Do some Kegels right now. It's
- 52:00easy.
- 52:02No one has to know you're doing it,
- 52:03either. I could be doing it right now
- 52:04for all you
- 52:05>> I'll let you guys know, and I'm doing it
- 52:07right now.
- 52:08And it feels incredible.
- 52:10>> [laughter]
- 52:10>> Yeah.
- 52:13>> How do you do a Kegel?
- 52:15>> I think you just kind of
- 52:16you like you're clenching your butt hole
- 52:18really hard, right?
- 52:19>> just suck in your butt hole.
- 52:24>> Yeah.
- 52:25>> I practice my Kegels by just like having
- 52:27to [ __ ] and not [ __ ]
- 52:29I just
- 52:31That's [laughter] I consider that
- 52:33exercise.
- 52:34>> I do Kegels by holding it all the time.
- 52:36>> Can I tell you an Albany, New York
- 52:38anecdote that I I need some perspective
- 52:40on cuz I don't understand it, and it
- 52:42might be an American thing. I was in
- 52:44this this hotel. It was like It was like
- 52:47an okay hotel, actually. No, it wasn't.
- 52:49It was awful. It was a It was just a big
- 52:50hotel, right? And it was like bungalow,
- 52:52single story. And in the lobby of this
- 52:54hotel was like a row of like public use
- 52:57computers, like maybe three or four of
- 52:59them. I'm talking Windows XP type like
- 53:01you know, really thin monitor with a big
- 53:03chunky like desktop next to it. And um
- 53:07every day there was from about 6:00
- 53:09[snorts] a.m. till about 11:00 p.m.
- 53:12there was the same woman
- 53:14playing Second Life really loudly on
- 53:18these public computers with one of these
- 53:20like You remember those really old like
- 53:22Target microphones you could get in like
- 53:242010 that were like really thin like
- 53:27really long thin ones. She was at one of
- 53:29these desk mounted Second Life things,
- 53:31and she would just like loudly while I
- 53:33was like checking in to this hotel, she
- 53:36was talking to people sexually on Second
- 53:39[laughter] Life.
- 53:41>> Oh, just doing full ass like European
- 53:44things.
- 53:44>> cyber sexing.
- 53:45>> people on Second Life. And she did this
- 53:47thing I was there for 4 days and she was
- 53:49doing it every day, dawn till dusk.
- 53:54>> Albany?
- 53:54>> for Lyndon bucks.
- 53:56>> Yeah.
- 53:57>> What are they?
- 53:58>> That's That's awesome.
- 54:00>> I I
- 54:01You know, I've always wondered like the
- 54:02amount of
- 54:03uh of people that just go into like
- 54:06the public library and and
- 54:08you can tell they're there for nefarious
- 54:10purposes, but I've never seen someone
- 54:12doing just like ERPing on like a
- 54:14role-play thing.
- 54:15>> Oh yeah, she was like It seems like
- 54:17>> She's untapped.
- 54:18>> Very detailed, too.
- 54:21Like cuz obviously she had to like
- 54:22describe
- 54:24things cuz there's no like the avatars
- 54:26are like 2004, so it's like
- 54:28>> Yeah. [laughter]
- 54:29>> And I did I did have a listen. I did
- 54:31quite enjoy it. It was a bit like a
- 54:32telenovela. It was quite fun. They were
- 54:34like There was like an argument at one
- 54:35point.
- 54:37>> Second Life joy.
- 54:39>> Yeah.
- 54:40>> I was living a third life. It was like I
- 54:41was like a second-hand Second Life joy.
- 54:44>> Yeah.
- 54:45>> Voyeurism. [snorts]
- 54:46>> [laughter]
- 54:48>> Virtual voyeurism.
- 54:49>> Dude, that's the type of person I want
- 54:51to get uh for like a podcast guest.
- 54:54>> [laughter]
- 54:54>> Just like weird Yeah, like creatures
- 54:57like that. Like
- 54:58>> And she has a mic.
- 54:59>> Yeah.
- 54:59>> Oh yeah, maybe we can find her in Second
- 55:02Life. She'd probably do it
- 55:03>> in the hotel lobby.
- 55:05>> [laughter]
- 55:05>> If I give you the hotel, I bet if you
- 55:07rang them, she'd still be there.
- 55:09And you could just ask nicely. Like
- 55:11>> Is there a lady playing Second Life
- 55:13there?
- 55:15Yeah.
- 55:15>> [laughter]
- 55:15>> Do you want to do it now? Want to call
- 55:16them now? I'll give you the number. I'll
- 55:18give you the hotel.
- 55:20>> Oh.
- 55:20>> I wonder if she's her first spot.
- 55:22>> Yeah.
- 55:23>> That'd be funny if she's like, "No, I'm
- 55:24in the middle of something."
- 55:26>> Who do you think she's not even staying
- 55:28there?
- 55:28>> No, I definitely wasn't. She definitely
- 55:30wasn't staying there. It was like she
- 55:31was she was
- 55:32>> That's nice of them to let her
- 55:34do
- 55:36virtual role-play
- 55:37>> and
- 55:38>> loudly.
- 55:38>> In like next to the reception. Like
- 55:40there was the reception desk and then
- 55:42the [laughter] second lobby.
- 55:44>> It's pretty odd.
- 55:45>> I feel really
- 55:47like I feel kind of bad because there's
- 55:49this restaurant in town that's like very
- 55:51highly reviewed. Everybody loves it. And
- 55:54I
- 55:54>> Oh, here we go about Ming Tree again,
- 55:56dude.
- 55:56>> No, it wasn't Ming Tree. Wasn't Ming
- 55:58Tree. It's a different place. We went me
- 55:59and Abby went to it for for breakfast.
- 56:02Has great reviews. Everybody keeps
- 56:04recommending it. We go there. We get a
- 56:06table. And
- 56:09I
- 56:11Like
- 56:11>> [sighs]
- 56:12>> have you guys ever seen someone that's
- 56:14like
- 56:15I would I don't want to say disabled in
- 56:16public, but there it's you try to ignore
- 56:19them a little bit cuz you don't want to
- 56:21stare, you know?
- 56:23>> Like a veteran?
- 56:24>> No, not like a veteran. And not I I
- 56:27guess this person was what I would
- 56:28consider highly autistic.
- 56:30>> Mhm.
- 56:30>> And the owner of the place, I think it
- 56:33was like her son.
- 56:35And to keep him busy, she was like,
- 56:37"Hey, you need to like uh make sure the
- 56:39soda fountain works and like organize
- 56:41the cups or something like that and tell
- 56:42me when you're done." And our table
- 56:44happened to be there next to the soda
- 56:45fountain. He finishes the soda fountain
- 56:47thing
- 56:48and then organizes the cups and then
- 56:50just proceeds to do an entire
- 56:52like Dragon Ball Z routine.
- 56:55>> [ __ ] yeah.
- 56:55>> Where
- 56:56maybe 6 ft away from me and I'm just
- 56:59like I would like look over and he would
- 57:00just be like "Not ON MY PLANET."
- 57:05>> OH, SO YOU GOT like
- 57:07>> just doing like all these
- 57:08>> medieval times eating experience.
- 57:10>> Yeah, but like
- 57:12>> mad?
- 57:13>> Well, I would go to look at him and he
- 57:14would just look through me. Like he he
- 57:16was in a different world. This guy was
- 57:17in a different world just doing like
- 57:19full
- 57:20>> You're trying to get my Dragon Balls.
- 57:22What [laughter] if he kicked your ass?
- 57:24>> With a flying kick.
- 57:26Yeah.
- 57:27But like me and Abby were there to
- 57:29discuss something very important. And
- 57:31like anytime we would start, it
- 57:33[laughter] was just like
- 57:36this guy doing a full [ __ ] routine
- 57:39next to us.
- 57:41And like, anytime like he would get so
- 57:42animated, he at one point hit the corner
- 57:44of a chair and it went like skittering
- 57:46across the floor and his mom had to go
- 57:47over there and was like, "Can you like
- 57:48keep it down?"
- 57:50And I'm like,
- 57:51I We're the only people here. Can't you
- 57:53[ __ ] take them out on the patio or
- 57:55something like that?
- 57:56>> Son Goku
- 57:57>> Yeah.
- 57:58>> [laughter]
- 57:58>> Just don't [ __ ] train outside or
- 58:00something.
- 58:00>> This dude sounds cool as [ __ ]
- 58:03You just know You just know he's going
- 58:04to be
- 58:05>> was just the wrong time and place.
- 58:07>> Yeah.
- 58:07>> Yeah.
- 58:08>> Well, it's
- 58:09also like way funnier that you're having
- 58:12a serious conversation. Like
- 58:13>> Yeah, very serious conversation.
- 58:16>> Grim.
- 58:17>> Yeah, no not grim. It was just like some
- 58:19doctor stuff. Um,
- 58:21you know, conversations about our kids'
- 58:23future and
- 58:25stuff like that and uh and he was giving
- 58:27you a glimpse.
- 58:29Yeah, and uh and I couldn't like [ __ ]
- 58:31focus on it. And Abby couldn't even like
- 58:33start the conversation because she's
- 58:35she's a person that gets overstimulated
- 58:38too too much and this guy was like the
- 58:40embodiment of overstimulation. He was
- 58:42just there
- 58:43doing a full like hero's monologue
- 58:46and then and then attacking.
- 58:49Which was really cool. It was a mix
- 58:50between like Dragon Ball Z and and maybe
- 58:52like Naruto cuz he was also doing these
- 58:54things where you go like
- 58:56like the little gang signs.
- 58:58>> Yeah, he might have been in a gang.
- 59:00>> Maybe [snorts] he did. Maybe I was on
- 59:02his turf. I had no idea.
- 59:03>> Did you check [clears throat] in when
- 59:05you
- 59:06>> No.
- 59:07>> went in there?
- 59:08>> No.
- 59:09>> That was definitely me as a kid. I was
- 59:11that kid, by the way. Not with like
- 59:13Dragon Ball
- 59:14>> I've done some research on you. I did
- 59:16well, two things. One, I saw probably 15
- 59:20different YouTube channels
- 59:22that have videos of you on them. One of
- 59:25which it's you when you're like 6 years
- 59:27old singing a song.
- 59:29>> Mhm.
- 59:29>> And
- 59:31um
- 59:32>> Maybe.
- 59:32>> There's another one of There's another
- 59:34one of you dancing and stuff. And
- 59:35there's some Minecraft stuff when you're
- 59:36maybe like 11 or 12.
- 59:38>> Mhm.
- 59:39Yeah.
- 59:40>> Um
- 59:41>> [clears throat]
- 59:41>> You're kind of just listing these off
- 59:43like Mad Libs style at me.
- 59:44>> [laughter]
- 59:45>> Yeah.
- 59:46>> It's kind of there's like no context to
- 59:47it.
- 59:48>> No, no, no. I was just It was like weird
- 59:50seeing you like all through all these
- 59:52like different stages of your life.
- 59:54>> Yeah, it's it's weird having the world
- 59:56having seen me through all these
- 59:58different stages of my life. It's
- 1:00:00cuz I was kind of an early adopter. I
- 1:00:02was on YouTube in 2005 and I was 8 years
- 1:00:05old. Like I was
- 1:00:06>> Yeah.
- 1:00:07>> I was straight I I was straight on
- 1:00:08there. I was making videos on my You
- 1:00:11know the Nokia brick phones from like
- 1:00:13the 2000s. I was making videos with my
- 1:00:15friends like scripted fully scripted
- 1:00:18like like videos and putting them on
- 1:00:21YouTube. And you can still see them.
- 1:00:22They're all still up. You can I'll send
- 1:00:24them to you if you
- 1:00:24>> I think that's what I was looking at.
- 1:00:26Yeah, I think that's what I was looking
- 1:00:27at.
- 1:00:27>> Were you seeing all the eye frames
- 1:00:29cutting over where like it would like
- 1:00:30data mosh because of how bad the camera
- 1:00:33was?
- 1:00:34>> Yeah. Yeah.
- 1:00:35>> That's the yeah, that little webcam.
- 1:00:37>> They do have a certain charm to them in
- 1:00:39a way. And I think people are trying to
- 1:00:40get that aesthetic back.
- 1:00:43You know, cuz how clean and clinical
- 1:00:45everything is now. People like the the
- 1:00:48artifacts
- 1:00:49>> Yeah, the artifacts of the old texts. We
- 1:00:51don't have any more.
- 1:00:52>> [laughter]
- 1:00:53>> I'm going to check up. I made a video in
- 1:00:55like '06. I wonder if it's blown up yet.
- 1:00:57It was called uh Wipeout Big Balls. Hell
- 1:01:00yeah. I used the camera to record
- 1:01:01Wipeout. It's like 8 seconds long.
- 1:01:04[clears throat] Guy running across with
- 1:01:04big balls.
- 1:01:06And uh yeah, I remember putting that on
- 1:01:07YouTube and being like
- 1:01:09Come on.
- 1:01:11>> What was your thought process? Were you
- 1:01:12like the world has to see this?
- 1:01:15>> I was like
- 1:01:17my mom bought me this little like flip
- 1:01:19camera
- 1:01:20and it had a YouTube sticker on it. I'm
- 1:01:22like, well, I guess I should make
- 1:01:24YouTube.
- 1:01:25And
- 1:01:26I thought the big balls were so awesome
- 1:01:28and funny.
- 1:01:29And
- 1:01:30yeah, I don't think it had any audio.
- 1:01:32>> [laughter]
- 1:01:32>> It's like
- 1:01:34I was like me cracking up like
- 1:01:37>> [laughter]
- 1:01:37>> Look at him run across the big balls.
- 1:01:40And yeah, I was like, this has got to do
- 1:01:43some numbers.
- 1:01:44>> I love [ __ ] like that, man. Cuz I love I
- 1:01:46love the thought process. Like I I did
- 1:01:48that, too. I like I filmed like Simpsons
- 1:01:51clips off of my TV. And they were like I
- 1:01:54purposely I remember I purposely chose
- 1:01:56the ones that I think would make me look
- 1:01:57smart.
- 1:01:58I like I like would would wait for like
- 1:02:00the funny moments that were like just
- 1:02:03high-brow enough that I understood them.
- 1:02:05Like just Sorry, just low-brow enough
- 1:02:07that I understood them, but just
- 1:02:08high-brow enough that people would be
- 1:02:09impressed. And I would just film my
- 1:02:11screen and put them on YouTube. And I
- 1:02:13called my I tried to act all grown-up on
- 1:02:15YouTube being all like, "Uh my my
- 1:02:17favorite anecdote from the Matt
- 1:02:20Groening's The Simpsons."
- 1:02:22>> [laughter]
- 1:02:23>> Marge
- 1:02:24chokes Bart because he loves him. He's
- 1:02:27so angry.
- 1:02:29>> [laughter]
- 1:02:31>> Bart is kind of a bad boy in this
- 1:02:33episode.
- 1:02:35>> I like how your sophisticated your
- 1:02:38attempts at at being sophisticated is
- 1:02:40The Simpsons.
- 1:02:41>> [laughter]
- 1:02:41>> That was your
- 1:02:42>> I was like seven. I thought that was
- 1:02:44smart.
- 1:02:44>> Yeah.
- 1:02:46Yeah, I mean, our our brains were mush
- 1:02:48back then.
- 1:02:48>> Yeah. Yeah, yeah, I mean
- 1:02:50>> back then.
- 1:02:51>> [laughter]
- 1:02:51>> Yeah.
- 1:02:53>> I'm glad there were I didn't have like a
- 1:02:55very uh
- 1:02:57video tape childhood cuz I used to bring
- 1:02:59kind of like that kid at that
- 1:03:00restaurant, but mine was the plastic
- 1:03:03lightsabers.
- 1:03:05And my friend and I would bring those
- 1:03:06like everywhere.
- 1:03:08And
- 1:03:09there's like one picture on Facebook my
- 1:03:11mom took. And I remember at the time I
- 1:03:13was like a little too old. And I was
- 1:03:15mortified because I you know, I had like
- 1:03:17crushes and stuff. And she posted a
- 1:03:19video where
- 1:03:21in Indianapolis, they had an event and
- 1:03:22we went to it. And my friend and I were
- 1:03:24like, "Well, of course we got to bring
- 1:03:25the lightsabers." And we just had like a
- 1:03:27big duel in front of [laughter] a bunch
- 1:03:29of people. And she took a picture and I
- 1:03:31remember it like in the moment being
- 1:03:32like, "This is so badass."
- 1:03:34>> [laughter]
- 1:03:35>> And then looking at the picture, I'm
- 1:03:36just like
- 1:03:37I just stopped with it. And I'm like 13
- 1:03:40years old [laughter]
- 1:03:41>> You're like way too old for it. Yeah.
- 1:03:43>> I just feel like, "Oh, fuck."
- 1:03:45>> I had that moment with um when I was in
- 1:03:48middle school, I went to like a kid's
- 1:03:49birthday party and my my crush was
- 1:03:52there.
- 1:03:53And I remember like I was playing I was
- 1:03:55playing Magic the Gathering.
- 1:03:57>> Oh. [clears throat]
- 1:03:58>> At this birthday party with the birthday
- 1:04:00boy. And like while we were playing, I
- 1:04:03like
- 1:04:05I looked over and she's like watching us
- 1:04:07like, "What the [ __ ] are you nerds
- 1:04:08doing?" And I don't think I touched
- 1:04:10Magic the Gathering ever again.
- 1:04:12I think
- 1:04:13>> Aw, sad.
- 1:04:13>> Until all of the sudden I heard like, I
- 1:04:16don't know, like 5 years ago everybody's
- 1:04:17like, "Oh, Magic the Gathering cards."
- 1:04:19I'm like, "That's still a game?" I
- 1:04:21didn't even realize it was still a
- 1:04:22thing.
- 1:04:23The last time I saw them was when I was
- 1:04:24in like 6th grade, maybe.
- 1:04:27>> You got judged lightly one time and gave
- 1:04:29it up for life. [laughter]
- 1:04:31>> I had like an out-of-body experience
- 1:04:33where I was like, I look like a [ __ ]
- 1:04:34nerd right now with these stupid cards.
- 1:04:37>> [laughter]
- 1:04:38>> Just baseline, you probably didn't look
- 1:04:40great. And then adding in the cards,
- 1:04:42yeah.
- 1:04:42>> in the the cards and
- 1:04:45And we were like, you know, like there's
- 1:04:46not a single Magic the Gathering card
- 1:04:48that sounds like cool. It's always just
- 1:04:50like, "I hit you with my Goblin Goblin
- 1:04:52Crusader."
- 1:04:54>> So, did you have like a social cred in
- 1:04:56school
- 1:04:57when you were a kid? Did you Yeah, were
- 1:04:59you like were you on the pecking order?
- 1:05:01You know what I mean?
- 1:05:02>> No. I mean
- 1:05:04>> I wasn't. I was I was as outcast as you
- 1:05:07could be in in like in like we call it
- 1:05:09primary school and secondary school.
- 1:05:13>> Yeah, I don't know. I don't think I ever
- 1:05:15had any sort of like
- 1:05:17there was like the cool kids and there
- 1:05:19was always cliques and I was outside of
- 1:05:20all of them. And I think I've always
- 1:05:22operated outside of
- 1:05:24outside of social circles for the most
- 1:05:26part.
- 1:05:26>> That's alpha as [ __ ]
- 1:05:27>> Pretty sad from both of you.
- 1:05:29>> They should call me kid king [laughter]
- 1:05:31and uh
- 1:05:32I kind of had a coterie
- 1:05:34>> Yeah.
- 1:05:34>> bad boys who followed me around and
- 1:05:36would do my bidding.
- 1:05:37>> Yeah.
- 1:05:38>> You come on and brush fetch me my
- 1:05:40>> back wall.
- 1:05:40>> Yeah.
- 1:05:41>> You wouldn't even comb your own comb
- 1:05:43hair. You'd have people do it.
- 1:05:45>> Yeah.
- 1:05:46S M D. Style my do.
- 1:05:52I'd have a guy with just the wax, a guy
- 1:05:53with just the comb. [laughter]
- 1:05:56Couple ladies. I'd snap and they'd start
- 1:05:59following.
- 1:06:00>> Have you seen Luca?
- 1:06:02The like the Pixar movie?
- 1:06:04>> No.
- 1:06:05>> There's a guy like the bad guy, the bad
- 1:06:06boy in that movie which is as bad boy as
- 1:06:10an Italian can get. He has a Vespa.
- 1:06:13Apparently that's cool.
- 1:06:14>> have seen I have seen this.
- 1:06:15[clears throat] Yeah, yeah.
- 1:06:16>> I love how his little henchmen like his
- 1:06:17like bad boy thing is like bring me my
- 1:06:20sandwich and like his henchmen come over
- 1:06:22with like a 4-ft long sandwich.
- 1:06:25And they they give it to him. I'm like
- 1:06:27that's pretty badass. You just feel like
- 1:06:29bring me my sandwich and they know to
- 1:06:31present you with your big sub sub
- 1:06:33sandwich on your Vespa.
- 1:06:35>> If I had said that a guy would have got
- 1:06:37punched in the
- 1:06:38>> [laughter]
- 1:06:38>> doubled over.
- 1:06:40Sandwich me now.
- 1:06:44>> [laughter and gasps]
- 1:06:46>> I remember when that movie came out and
- 1:06:47it was before you had your mustache all
- 1:06:49the way in. I think I likened you to the
- 1:06:52to the bad guy from from Luca cuz he has
- 1:06:55like four mustache hairs.
- 1:06:57>> to look this up.
- 1:06:59>> Yeah. Uh Luca Luca bad guy.
- 1:07:01>> Luca bad boy. That's what I'm going to
- 1:07:03look up.
- 1:07:03>> Yeah, bad boy. His name's like Signor
- 1:07:05Vespa or something. Like he has an
- 1:07:07actual name, but they call him Senior
- 1:07:09Vespa.
- 1:07:10>> It's really cool. I mean, he's a step
- 1:07:12above me cuz I don't even have a Vespa
- 1:07:14and I don't even have
- 1:07:16>> a senior
- 1:07:16>> any means of transportation.
- 1:07:18>> [laughter]
- 1:07:19>> He looks He looks kind of uh
- 1:07:22Yeah. Yeah, there you go.
- 1:07:24That's a bad boy in Italy. [laughter]
- 1:07:27>> I do I've always wanted to pull off that
- 1:07:29little
- 1:07:30tied uh
- 1:07:32sweater over the shoulders.
- 1:07:33>> around the shoulders.
- 1:07:35>> Yeah. [laughter]
- 1:07:35>> Yeah.
- 1:07:36>> I remember I did that one time with a
- 1:07:38hoodie and when it was with my first
- 1:07:40time out of country and I was in Paris
- 1:07:43and uh
- 1:07:45Yeah, I felt like a total poser. It's
- 1:07:46like guy that starts wearing gloves or
- 1:07:49brings an umbrella for the first time,
- 1:07:51you know, it's like
- 1:07:52>> Yeah.
- 1:07:52>> Everyone was doing it, but I felt like
- 1:07:54they could tell.
- 1:07:55>> They It's not really that
- 1:07:56>> me being
- 1:07:56>> brings an umbrella? What's wrong with
- 1:07:58bringing an umbrella?
- 1:07:59>> It's like a big step the first time you
- 1:08:01start bringing an umbrella places if
- 1:08:03it's like a big umbrella.
- 1:08:05>> Or if you like put on like a pea coat.
- 1:08:07>> Yeah.
- 1:08:07>> they can tell
- 1:08:08>> They can tell you're not a pea coat guy.
- 1:08:10Like what are you doing with that? Take
- 1:08:11that off.
- 1:08:11>> My girlfriend's got me nice leather
- 1:08:13gloves for Christmas. When I put them
- 1:08:15on, I'm like, you [ __ ] idiot. Like
- 1:08:17everyone's going to [clears throat] know
- 1:08:17you're not a guy that wears gloves.
- 1:08:20>> Yeah, and then I pair it with my walking
- 1:08:22umbrella.
- 1:08:22>> Yeah.
- 1:08:23>> I feel like if I would put on leather
- 1:08:25gloves like uh people would like go in
- 1:08:28their cars and lock the doors.
- 1:08:29>> them.
- 1:08:30>> They're actually currently covering
- 1:08:31their
- 1:08:32>> [laughter]
- 1:08:34>> You guys are too self-conscious.
- 1:08:37>> No, it's absolutely
- 1:08:38>> No, it's not that. Everybody's looking
- 1:08:40and judging.
- 1:08:41>> It's absolutely [laughter] not that at
- 1:08:43all. It's a kind of a they are being
- 1:08:45malicious with their perception.
- 1:08:47>> Is that a
- 1:08:48>> Right again, Sam.
- 1:08:49>> Right again.
- 1:08:49>> Thank you.
- 1:08:51>> Yeah, I think it's healthy to put on
- 1:08:52something and go
- 1:08:54"Who the [ __ ] are you trying to be, you
- 1:08:55worm, you [ __ ] worm?" And then cry a
- 1:08:58little bit and then take it off and then
- 1:09:00hang it up in your closet.
- 1:09:02>> Yeah.
- 1:09:02>> And then anytime your your wife asks you
- 1:09:04about it, you go, "Oh, no, I love it,
- 1:09:06honey. I love it. It was actually a
- 1:09:07great purchase."
- 1:09:09And then just never wear it.
- 1:09:10>> I wore a pair of shorts yesterday that I
- 1:09:12used to wear all the time.
- 1:09:14And uh they must have shrunk in the wash
- 1:09:17or something cuz my girlfriend was like,
- 1:09:18"You cannot wear those outside. They're
- 1:09:20making you moose knuckle." And I looked
- 1:09:22down, I'm like, "Holy shit." It was
- 1:09:24[laughter] like I was wearing like a
- 1:09:26child's shorts.
- 1:09:27And I'm like, "I think they look kind of
- 1:09:30you know,
- 1:09:31kind of cool."
- 1:09:32>> I think moose knuckles are back,
- 1:09:33actually.
- 1:09:34>> Yeah.
- 1:09:35>> Well, and it was like
- 1:09:37so soft that uh
- 1:09:39it looked more like I had just like a
- 1:09:42maybe like one walnut at the very right
- 1:09:44by the button.
- 1:09:46>> [laughter]
- 1:09:47>> Looked like I had a growth or something.
- 1:09:49tumor
- 1:09:50And uh
- 1:09:52yeah, I was pretty sad. I'm like, "Oh,
- 1:09:53oh."
- 1:09:55>> [laughter]
- 1:09:55>> Yeah.
- 1:09:56>> Ouch.
- 1:09:58>> So uh
- 1:09:59>> You ever
- 1:10:00>> I'll go.
- 1:10:00>> Uh I was I was going to
- 1:10:01>> No, please, go.
- 1:10:02>> Okay.
- 1:10:03>> [laughter]
- 1:10:03>> If you allow me.
- 1:10:05Um
- 1:10:08I forget what I was going to say.
- 1:10:09>> dynamic. You both are like subservient
- 1:10:11to each other.
- 1:10:12You're like both
- 1:10:13>> Well, it's cuz we're so we're so [ __ ]
- 1:10:15courteous to each other. Yeah.
- 1:10:18>> Full manners.
- 1:10:18>> Yeah.
- 1:10:19>> Yeah.
- 1:10:20>> But anyways, I was going to ask you
- 1:10:21about your band and stuff. You got
- 1:10:23>> Okay. Yeah.
- 1:10:25>> Yeah. Are you guys
- 1:10:26>> Was that your question?
- 1:10:27>> Well, yeah, basically it was like, you
- 1:10:30know,
- 1:10:31obviously I do want to touch on the the
- 1:10:34the fall of
- 1:10:36Wilbur on YouTube. But then
- 1:10:40as a great like recovery,
- 1:10:43I feel like you pivoted to music.
- 1:10:46And
- 1:10:47they don't seem to care a whole lot
- 1:10:50about
- 1:10:52you being canceled.
- 1:10:55>> Well, no, it was it was one of the
- 1:10:58hardest things I've had to do in my
- 1:11:00career, I think, was was that, yeah. But
- 1:11:03like, no, I I don't think I pivoted at
- 1:11:05all. I'm I'm doing the same stuff I
- 1:11:08I've always wanted to like been doing, I
- 1:11:10think, from the start. Nothing's
- 1:11:11Nothing's really changed apart from
- 1:11:15>> What are you talking about? That's
- 1:11:16>> apart from people's perception of me.
- 1:11:18>> A Minecraft SMP is a completely like big
- 1:11:22streamer circle jerk.
- 1:11:24>> Yeah, yeah.
- 1:11:24>> It's a huge different thing from being
- 1:11:27musician guy that goes touring with
- 1:11:29band. That is
- 1:11:31>> But I
- 1:11:31>> The only similarity is that you're the
- 1:11:33guy that's doing both those things.
- 1:11:35>> Yeah, I guess I guess it's more the fact
- 1:11:38that I was already doing music far
- 1:11:41before any any accusations were ever
- 1:11:44made against you. You know, I've I've
- 1:11:45always been I've always been doing music
- 1:11:47and and I'd I'd already phased out
- 1:11:49Minecraft at that point, so it's I don't
- 1:11:52know. It's I I like to pride myself that
- 1:11:54I've always been very true to myself in
- 1:11:56my in my content and and in my God,
- 1:11:59that's the [ __ ] wankiest thing I've
- 1:12:01ever said. I've always been true to
- 1:12:02myself in my content. But you know what
- 1:12:05I mean? Like
- 1:12:06>> I've always hated the term content.
- 1:12:08>> Yeah.
- 1:12:10Oh, [ __ ] hell, yeah.
- 1:12:11>> But I guess like it's it's such a broad
- 1:12:13range of things that are made a lot of
- 1:12:16the times now that people, instead of,
- 1:12:19you know, specializing in one thing,
- 1:12:21they have to just go like, "My content."
- 1:12:24>> Yeah, it's a bit myopic, isn't it? Like
- 1:12:26you've just got to You've got to make it
- 1:12:28as vague yet reduced as you possibly
- 1:12:31can, so that it's mainly it's I think
- 1:12:33it's mainly so that the people who do
- 1:12:36[ __ ] [clears throat] all can pretend
- 1:12:38they're not doing [ __ ] all, cuz there's
- 1:12:40a difference between being like, "Oh,
- 1:12:42I'm a YouTuber." I'm like, okay, I know
- 1:12:43exactly what you do and I have, you
- 1:12:45know, everyone's building their own
- 1:12:46image of everyone in their heads all the
- 1:12:48time, you know? So if you go like, "I'm
- 1:12:49a YouTuber." Everyone's nice, but
- 1:12:51everyone's going,
- 1:12:52>> [laughter]
- 1:12:52>> everyone's going, "Oh, he's making
- 1:12:55YouTube videos." And if someone's going,
- 1:12:57"Oh, I'm a Twitch streamer." It's like
- 1:12:58he's he's probably playing video games.
- 1:13:00I kind of get a vibe of what he's going
- 1:13:02to be doing on stream, you know? If
- 1:13:03someone says they're a Kick streamer,
- 1:13:04you go, "Right, I know you how different
- 1:13:06you are from a Twitch streamer, you
- 1:13:07know?" But then there are some people
- 1:13:09who don't just don't do [ __ ]
- 1:13:10anything. They just [ __ ] have a
- 1:13:12social media account and they just like
- 1:13:15kind of just
- 1:13:18I don't [laughter] know. They just kind
- 1:13:19of
- 1:13:19>> Like yeah, just like post memes and
- 1:13:21[ __ ]
- 1:13:21>> Yeah, and to them
- 1:13:23>> dog [ __ ]
- 1:13:24>> Yeah, and it's it's they would much
- 1:13:25rather say, "I make content
- 1:13:28than I make
- 1:13:30blank or X or Y, you know?" And there's
- 1:13:33nothing wrong with being the guy that
- 1:13:35posts dog memes online, but like, you
- 1:13:38know, own it, bro. Be like, "Yeah, I'm
- 1:13:39the guy who posts dog memes." I used to
- 1:13:41do I used to have a Facebook account
- 1:13:43>> Mhm.
- 1:13:43>> I met a guy in Vegas that was very
- 1:13:45unabashed. He was like, "I'm a
- 1:13:46propagandist on Twitter." [laughter]
- 1:13:49And he just all he did was just advocate
- 1:13:51for like uh the NRA or something and
- 1:13:54like weird Trump [ __ ] And he was like,
- 1:13:56"Yeah, that's what I do. I just like
- 1:13:59I just like slander like libs online and
- 1:14:01then try to get like retweets for the
- 1:14:03Republican Party."
- 1:14:05And he just called himself a
- 1:14:06propagandist and I was like, "That's
- 1:14:08very like
- 1:14:10it's very like a very uh honest,
- 1:14:13truthful [snorts] like
- 1:14:15>> It's honest, I guess? It's not like I
- 1:14:16wouldn't call it an honest living.
- 1:14:18>> No, I feel like he was being
- 1:14:20>> honest about how like scummy it was.
- 1:14:22>> Mhm.
- 1:14:22>> He was like, "I'm a propagandist." Like
- 1:14:24and and the way he described it was very
- 1:14:26honest. Like
- 1:14:28he knew it was like
- 1:14:29kind of like a worm a worm career.
- 1:14:33>> [laughter]
- 1:14:33>> But
- 1:14:35>> So this is why I'm saying he was
- 1:14:36he was very he was he was blunt and
- 1:14:38honest and even though he was a worm
- 1:14:40he was he was the alpha worm. He was the
- 1:14:43worm that hears the thunderstorm and
- 1:14:44goes, "Fuck yeah, I love rain." As
- 1:14:46opposed to the one scared of drowning,
- 1:14:48you know?
- 1:14:49>> Yeah.
- 1:14:50So, how long after you got canceled
- 1:14:54did you did you have to go in hiding for
- 1:14:56a while?
- 1:14:57>> Um not by choice.
- 1:15:00Just kind of by
- 1:15:02survival necessity, I suppose. There was
- 1:15:05a
- 1:15:05>> Yeah.
- 1:15:06>> There was a lot going on, especially
- 1:15:07like around my family and stuff at that
- 1:15:09point. So, it was
- 1:15:11>> How did your family find out?
- 1:15:13>> No, no, they didn't find out, but people
- 1:15:15were
- 1:15:16I just I don't want to be like
- 1:15:17sub-storying, but you know, it was like
- 1:15:19there was there was a lot of people who
- 1:15:20were trying to
- 1:15:22get me from different angles and and,
- 1:15:24you know,
- 1:15:25it's and some of it worked, you know?
- 1:15:27Some of it Some people got through to
- 1:15:28different, you know, the word doxing
- 1:15:30thrown around a lot, you know, but
- 1:15:32>> Yeah.
- 1:15:33>> Yeah, I I took I took some time I I took
- 1:15:35like maybe 3 months off, I think, after
- 1:15:38after it sort of blew I'm I'm I'm had to
- 1:15:40miss Coachella. I was scheduled to play
- 1:15:42Coachella that year.
- 1:15:44Uh
- 1:15:45and I took I had to miss that just for
- 1:15:47my own like
- 1:15:48sanity, I suppose. Like I the idea of
- 1:15:50going up on a stage in like this midst
- 1:15:53of all this.
- 1:15:55And um and yeah, it was in that time
- 1:15:56away, I kind of was able to
- 1:15:59conceptualize the idea of what a public
- 1:16:03identity is, you know? What a what a
- 1:16:05public-facing persona is and and I and I
- 1:16:08suppose there's a there's a lot of
- 1:16:10treating your audience like a mirror.
- 1:16:12You know? Like you you you you make
- 1:16:14something good and your audience are
- 1:16:16going, "Woohoo! Yay! Great! Do more of
- 1:16:18that, you know?" And then then you feel
- 1:16:19good cuz you're like, "Oh, I'm great,
- 1:16:21you know? Oh, I'm doing amazing." And
- 1:16:23then you make something bad and
- 1:16:24everyone's going, "Boo! Boo!" And you
- 1:16:26go, "Oh, I feel awful, you know?" And
- 1:16:27so, you start treating your audience
- 1:16:29like a mirror. And when you've been
- 1:16:31doing that since you were 21 years old,
- 1:16:33it's like, you know, it's so ingrained
- 1:16:35in your head that like how people look
- 1:16:37at you is how you should feel and how
- 1:16:40you are. And really, it's just not true.
- 1:16:42And like I I think it was you actually
- 1:16:44that was saying this the other day. You
- 1:16:45were like, you know, you know who you
- 1:16:47are. You've got your wife and your kids
- 1:16:49and stuff. And it's like, you know, who
- 1:16:50gives a [ __ ] what people think about you
- 1:16:52online at that point, you know? And I I
- 1:16:55really respect that. I think I'm I think
- 1:16:56I'm I'm on a very similar thought path
- 1:16:59to you there.
- 1:17:00>> Oh, good. Cuz if you paid attention to
- 1:17:02what people said about you, you'd
- 1:17:03probably be really upset.
- 1:17:05I um
- 1:17:07Well, I I
- 1:17:08>> [laughter]
- 1:17:09>> I'm sorry. I used I used Gemini to do a
- 1:17:12lot of research for the podcast because
- 1:17:13>> Gemini?
- 1:17:14>> Yeah, Gemini.
- 1:17:16>> Yeah, Google Gemini.
- 1:17:17>> It's a lot easier than actually sifting
- 1:17:18through stuff.
- 1:17:19>> Yeah, it's a lot easier than actually
- 1:17:20doing your job.
- 1:17:20>> Cuz he's so busy.
- 1:17:21>> Yeah.
- 1:17:22>> And I was like I was like, "Wilbur
- 1:17:24Soot." And it was just like, "This guy's
- 1:17:26going to [ __ ] He's going to eat your
- 1:17:27face off.
- 1:17:29He's going to bite you as soon as you
- 1:17:30get in."
- 1:17:32And that was That's like the big
- 1:17:33takeaway from what I
- 1:17:36learned
- 1:17:37of the Wilbur controversy
- 1:17:39>> hour
- 1:17:40>> So,
- 1:17:41um of research.
- 1:17:42>> My hours Not hours of research, the the
- 1:17:44initial like when I heard you got
- 1:17:46canceled,
- 1:17:48I think the big thing that I heard
- 1:17:52that stuck with me
- 1:17:54was that you bite you bite ladies.
- 1:17:57>> Hm.
- 1:17:58>> And then the ladies say,
- 1:18:00"No more." And you go,
- 1:18:03"I'm going to bite a little bit more.
- 1:18:04I'm going to bite a little bit more than
- 1:18:06you want me to."
- 1:18:07And that's that's stuck with me because
- 1:18:10>> Hm.
- 1:18:11>> that's a very specific thing to be
- 1:18:13canceled for.
- 1:18:14>> Hm.
- 1:18:14>> And
- 1:18:16I
- 1:18:17if you don't mind, would like to ask you
- 1:18:19some questions about it.
- 1:18:21>> What about the depths of relationship I
- 1:18:24had 4 years ago?
- 1:18:27>> No, not the relationship. I don't care
- 1:18:28about the relationship.
- 1:18:29>> You want to You want to know about the
- 1:18:31biting?
- 1:18:33>> Bingo.
- 1:18:34>> Yeah, hit the nail on the head. Yeah.
- 1:18:36>> I
- 1:18:37don't really
- 1:18:38I don't really know what there is to say
- 1:18:40publicly about it. I don't really want
- 1:18:42to share anything with anyone. I've
- 1:18:45shared everything I want to say. If you
- 1:18:46if you maybe maybe next time don't ask
- 1:18:48Gemini.
- 1:18:49>> [laughter]
- 1:18:51>> Cuz I've
- 1:18:51>> Well, no. Gemini gave me a much more
- 1:18:53rounded view of what you got canceled
- 1:18:55for.
- 1:18:56>> Mhm.
- 1:18:56>> But like it when I told my friends like,
- 1:18:58"Hey, I'm having like Wilbur on." It's
- 1:19:00first time I've talked to him in years
- 1:19:01since he got canceled.
- 1:19:03>> Mhm.
- 1:19:03>> They would go, "Isn't that the guy that
- 1:19:05bit those ladies?"
- 1:19:06>> Yes.
- 1:19:06>> And that was like that's everybody's
- 1:19:07like knee-jerk thing.
- 1:19:09>> Mhm. [clears throat]
- 1:19:09>> It's just a very specific thing to be
- 1:19:12to be canceled for.
- 1:19:13>> Yeah, I I and I get people's curiosity
- 1:19:15cuz it's like it is such an emotional
- 1:19:17hook, isn't it? It's such an easy like
- 1:19:19you can grab that, you know? You can
- 1:19:21really you can really understand that
- 1:19:23that that angle. It's like, "Oh,
- 1:19:25interesting. Emotional connection. I'm
- 1:19:27I'm I'm locked into this drama, you
- 1:19:29know?" And so it's like I totally I
- 1:19:31totally understand people's people's
- 1:19:33curiosity with it, you know? But I I
- 1:19:35think and I'm not averse to never
- 1:19:36speaking about it ever. But it's one of
- 1:19:38those things where it's like I I don't
- 1:19:40know. It's still for for people on the
- 1:19:42internet it was a it was something they
- 1:19:45thought a lot of them thought was funny
- 1:19:472 and 1/2 years ago, you know? It was a
- 1:19:49it was something that was humorous to a
- 1:19:50lot of people 2 and 1/2 years ago even
- 1:19:52if they even if they claimed it was like
- 1:19:55outrage. A lot of people were finding a
- 1:19:57lot of comedy in it and and and mocking
- 1:19:59it, which I which may actually make me
- 1:20:00feel a bit sick at the time, I remember.
- 1:20:02And it was like the for me that's been
- 1:20:05kind of my life for 2 and 1/2 years, you
- 1:20:08know? That's been what I've been kind of
- 1:20:10like having to wrangle with in my
- 1:20:12day-to-day most days is that image that
- 1:20:15perception that's been painted of me. Um
- 1:20:18and I'm sure one day I will want to talk
- 1:20:20about it, but it's just too it's still
- 1:20:23too raw. It's still I know 2 and 1/2
- 1:20:24years is such a long time, but it's like
- 1:20:27for me that's still very raw, I think.
- 1:20:28And and I'm I'm happy with what I've
- 1:20:30said. I'm happy with what I've said so
- 1:20:32far and I I'm I don't have anything to
- 1:20:34expand on it just yet, I don't think.
- 1:20:36Sorry, Sam.
- 1:20:37>> I
- 1:20:38I guess if it's like such a personal
- 1:20:39kink, it's like yeah, you don't want to
- 1:20:41explain yourself.
- 1:20:42>> It's not It's not necessarily a kink
- 1:20:44thing.
- 1:20:46>> Okay.
- 1:20:47The uh
- 1:20:48>> What about [laughter] You tried to
- 1:20:49You tried this earlier. You were trying
- 1:20:51to paint it as some kind of kink.
- 1:20:53>> It
- 1:20:54It has to be. It has to.
- 1:20:56>> [laughter]
- 1:20:57>> Um in the Okay, so just like completely
- 1:21:00hypothetical. I think like one of the
- 1:21:01biggest things that I'm interested in is
- 1:21:06the Well, one, you got canceled, right?
- 1:21:09And [clears throat] you're still alive,
- 1:21:10you haven't killed yourself. That's big.
- 1:21:13Cuz I tried to kill myself and you
- 1:21:14>> people, I think. I think that that It
- 1:21:16trended on Twitter my birthday when I
- 1:21:17was when I stopped being 27. People were
- 1:21:20like, "Damn, we'll miss the 27 club."
- 1:21:22Like people were like celebrating the
- 1:21:24idea that I was going to join the 27
- 1:21:26club.
- 1:21:27>> The ego that people think that they can
- 1:21:29join the 27 club.
- 1:21:31>> [laughter]
- 1:21:31>> It's like
- 1:21:32>> Yeah.
- 1:21:32>> You know, like if I kill myself I'm
- 1:21:34trying to join the club.
- 1:21:35Like if I blow my head off at 27, like
- 1:21:37what? I'm hanging out with like all
- 1:21:39those guys?
- 1:21:40>> Mhm.
- 1:21:40>> No way. I'm not in that
- 1:21:41>> Tupac.
- 1:21:42>> Yeah, I'm not like elevated to that
- 1:21:44status. Like I feel like people that try
- 1:21:45to kill themselves and join that club.
- 1:21:47>> get in the club.
- 1:21:48>> Yeah, it's like [ __ ] off, dude. Kill
- 1:21:50yourself at 28. That's a little bit of
- 1:21:52hubris.
- 1:21:52>> Like in my part of the club?
- 1:21:54>> Yeah.
- 1:21:55No, you're No.
- 1:21:56>> We'd all be hanging out in heaven.
- 1:21:59>> [laughter]
- 1:22:00>> Yeah. I just turned 28, so now if I do
- 1:22:03it, it's like kind of
- 1:22:05like
- 1:22:06>> missed the boat.
- 1:22:06>> You know, like a little punk.
- 1:22:08>> Yeah.
- 1:22:08>> Yeah.
- 1:22:09>> Well, now now it's where you should be.
- 1:22:10Just like a regular
- 1:22:13depressed
- 1:22:14>> depressed kill yourself person. Like
- 1:22:16>> Yeah.
- 1:22:16>> Killing yourself to join the club, it's
- 1:22:18like how much ego do you have? But then
- 1:22:20at the same time it's contrasted by you
- 1:22:23killing yourself, you know? So it's like
- 1:22:25a
- 1:22:26I don't know. It's like those people
- 1:22:27that like want to be eternalized and so
- 1:22:29they do some final grand gesture, but
- 1:22:31the grand gesture is just like
- 1:22:34>> [snorts]
- 1:22:35>> throwing yourself in an oven or
- 1:22:36whatever. Like It seems like an odd way
- 1:22:39of getting glory, you know?
- 1:22:41>> I like how I like how Bowie
- 1:22:44Bowie's got my personal favorite one, I
- 1:22:45think. Blackstar by Bowie, which was
- 1:22:47written
- 1:22:48>> Blackstar was incredible.
- 1:22:49>> Yeah, when he knew he was gone when he
- 1:22:50knew he was on the way out.
- 1:22:52I was like that was that that in my
- 1:22:54opinion Lazarus as a song is still It
- 1:22:56makes me cry, bro. When they're "By the
- 1:22:58time I got to New York" Oh man, it's so
- 1:23:01good. That's That's how you do it.
- 1:23:03That's how you legitimize yourself.
- 1:23:05>> um
- 1:23:06Mozart's Requiem, I think is something
- 1:23:09similar where he knew he was dying and
- 1:23:11it was his last thing and so he was
- 1:23:13writing it.
- 1:23:15Yeah. Um
- 1:23:16>> Oh man, makes me feel like when I'm like
- 1:23:18when I reach that age where I'm like
- 1:23:20it's going to happen soon, I'm going to
- 1:23:21be scrambling. I've got no [laughter]
- 1:23:23grand plan. I'm going to be like I just
- 1:23:25took the world's biggest dump for an old
- 1:23:27guy. Post to Twitter.
- 1:23:29>> Yeah.
- 1:23:29>> And then just like that.
- 1:23:31>> [laughter]
- 1:23:31>> Yeah. Well, I remember when Bowie's
- 1:23:33Blackstar came out, there was a lot of
- 1:23:35people that listened to it and they were
- 1:23:36like
- 1:23:37Nah.
- 1:23:38>> Yeah, I remember that too. Yeah.
- 1:23:40>> Yeah. There was a lot of people that
- 1:23:41were like he knew he was dying and this
- 1:23:43is what he made? This sucks.
- 1:23:45>> Mhm.
- 1:23:46>> For real.
- 1:23:47>> Yeah.
- 1:23:48Um Oh, but anyways, yeah. So you you got
- 1:23:50canceled in in in the wake of it you
- 1:23:53have then since pivoted
- 1:23:56a little bit and built yourself back up.
- 1:23:59You're touring and stuff. You've done
- 1:24:00tours since then.
- 1:24:02And my question is
- 1:24:05is that
- 1:24:07in the future
- 1:24:08there is obviously there's going to be
- 1:24:10some point where I get canceled for
- 1:24:12something. By the way, I think it's
- 1:24:14incredible that I've made it
- 1:24:16>> Well.
- 1:24:16>> a longer than you and not get canceled.
- 1:24:18That is
- 1:24:19>> Mhm.
- 1:24:19>> a testament to any more Minecraft
- 1:24:21>> I've made one public apology.
- 1:24:23>> One public apology, but it's like it was
- 1:24:25it wasn't that bad.
- 1:24:27>> What did you apologize for something?
- 1:24:29>> And we made fun of a guy and then it
- 1:24:31turned out he was like
- 1:24:32>> It was actually pretty bad.
- 1:24:33>> Yeah, yeah, he was terminally ill.
- 1:24:35>> I do think about that like
- 1:24:38Hey, but yeah.
- 1:24:39>> I I have dude, I have things I've made
- 1:24:41I've made public apologies for stuff and
- 1:24:43I've I've it's stuck with me like like
- 1:24:46from like Minecraft times and stuff.
- 1:24:48>> Is he still is he still around? I see I
- 1:24:50get his YouTube recommendations.
- 1:24:52>> Yeah.
- 1:24:53>> I think and I feel like I got like
- 1:24:55the penance stare from Ghost Rider every
- 1:24:57time I see one. [laughter]
- 1:24:59Like somebody just like grabbed me by
- 1:25:00the face and melted my brain out.
- 1:25:02>> Yeah.
- 1:25:03>> Um but yeah, Sam does need some good
- 1:25:05tips probably.
- 1:25:05>> Well, I was I was saying like things
- 1:25:07that you think work and things that
- 1:25:09didn't work in terms of rehabilitating
- 1:25:12image and or coming back.
- 1:25:15Like hypothetical, let's say I get super
- 1:25:16[clears throat] canceled. What are some
- 1:25:18as canceled guy tips that you would give
- 1:25:22me?
- 1:25:23>> Well, I
- 1:25:24>> Not necessarily saying I'm biting
- 1:25:25people, but
- 1:25:26>> Yeah, I can't I can't I can't
- 1:25:27>> like just get canceled for saying
- 1:25:29something.
- 1:25:29>> I've no idea about rehabilitation
- 1:25:31[clears throat]
- 1:25:31of your image, man. That's not that's
- 1:25:33>> [laughter]
- 1:25:34>> I'm the worst person to ask there. I'm
- 1:25:36I'm in my opinion, it's all about
- 1:25:38rehabilitation of your brain after that.
- 1:25:40I just don't think I don't think the
- 1:25:42human brain is designed to deal with
- 1:25:44mass shame, be it for
- 1:25:47be it for something you've actually done
- 1:25:48or for something that has been, you
- 1:25:50know, accused of you. I don't think that
- 1:25:52that mass shaming ever works for people
- 1:25:55and it's like, you know, there's a
- 1:25:56reason we outlawed the pillory and the
- 1:25:59and you know, the stocks and you know, I
- 1:26:00mean it was only in the 1920s people
- 1:26:02would have to wear a big sign around
- 1:26:04their neck saying I'm a thief and had to
- 1:26:05walk around town. They did test. I read
- 1:26:07a book um
- 1:26:09uh who's the guy who wrote Men Who Stare
- 1:26:11at Goats? What was his name? Ron
- 1:26:13Ron Johnson? Ron something like it. It's
- 1:26:15Jon Jon Ronson?
- 1:26:17Something is the name like that.
- 1:26:18>> John Ronson doesn't sound right, but
- 1:26:20>> It is something like that. He He has a
- 1:26:22book called So You've Been Publicly
- 1:26:24Shamed, which I would recommend. It's
- 1:26:25It's a really good read. And in it he
- 1:26:28talks about a few studies they did on
- 1:26:30people who actually had had these huge
- 1:26:32public shaming things back in the past.
- 1:26:34And they stopped developing a lot of
- 1:26:36them. A lot of these, especially like
- 1:26:38young people, like teenagers who had
- 1:26:40these massive bouts of And we're talking
- 1:26:42communities of like hundreds of people
- 1:26:43at this point, not internet communities
- 1:26:45of millions, right? These people would
- 1:26:47have these like, you know, they would be
- 1:26:49accused of stealing, accused of
- 1:26:50whatever, and put in these like stocks,
- 1:26:53put in these like made to put in the
- 1:26:55newspapers as like, "Don't hire this
- 1:26:57guy, you know." And they went back and
- 1:26:59and like interviewed these people and
- 1:27:00and they they they showed like their
- 1:27:03development kind of ended the moment
- 1:27:05they were publicly shamed. And um
- 1:27:07I find it really interesting cuz I don't
- 1:27:08think the human brain is built for it. I
- 1:27:10think we're all deep down scared of
- 1:27:12being shunned from our communities and
- 1:27:14fed to the wolves, you know? So it's
- 1:27:16like
- 1:27:17So when you say, "How do you
- 1:27:18rehabilitate an image?" I don't think
- 1:27:20that's that's the I think that's the
- 1:27:21wrong line of questioning. I think it
- 1:27:23should be, "How do you save yourself
- 1:27:25from stop stopping having your energy,
- 1:27:28stopping having your drive, stopping
- 1:27:29stopping your own ability to grow and
- 1:27:31and and change and, you know, be a be a
- 1:27:34human being?"
- 1:27:35>> Sam would ever have that problem.
- 1:27:36>> No. [laughter]
- 1:27:37>> Honestly. And also you're right, it is
- 1:27:39Jon Ronson.
- 1:27:40>> It's Jon Ronson. Yeah, I thought so.
- 1:27:41>> what? Going back, it's like you survived
- 1:27:43a crow court.
- 1:27:45>> That's even more I
- 1:27:47>> No, I was going to make a crow court
- 1:27:48[laughter] joke back then, but we hadn't
- 1:27:50broached the topic yet, so
- 1:27:52>> Maybe the crows would have been fairer.
- 1:27:54>> It's a little I mean, it worked for
- 1:27:56what, Cersei Lannister when she was
- 1:27:58shamed, right? She became the queen
- 1:27:59after.
- 1:28:00>> I think so, yeah.
- 1:28:02I think she brought down a She brought
- 1:28:04down a
- 1:28:04>> She blew up a church.
- 1:28:06>> yeah.
- 1:28:06That's kind of a good guy move.
- 1:28:08>> I I found a lot of interest in in things
- 1:28:11about shaming and stuff recently though.
- 1:28:13It's been very interesting to me, yeah.
- 1:28:15>> I actually I think almost the opposite
- 1:28:18where
- 1:28:19the I I do agree like shame is such a
- 1:28:22a poor motivator
- 1:28:25during development. But once you're an
- 1:28:28adult
- 1:28:29I think collective community shaming
- 1:28:32is an incredible tool. And I I love it.
- 1:28:34But I I like shaming in a way that um
- 1:28:39let's say I think we spoke about this
- 1:28:41recently Poob, but there's uh
- 1:28:43Have you seen
- 1:28:44>> I'm sure I'll remember.
- 1:28:45>> Yeah, have you seen the um
- 1:28:47like when you there's like a heavy
- 1:28:49drinking culture in Japan. And so like
- 1:28:52after work like the the salary men will
- 1:28:54go out and drink with their boss and
- 1:28:56stuff. And then if you get too drunk
- 1:28:58public intoxication's a huge no-no over
- 1:29:01there.
- 1:29:02And so
- 1:29:04guys that get really drunk and then they
- 1:29:06end up falling asleep on the sidewalk
- 1:29:08passerby will come by and they'll give
- 1:29:10them a bottle of water. Like, "Oh, you
- 1:29:12need water. You're too drunk. You need
- 1:29:13to you know, so you don't get a
- 1:29:15hangover." And but people as they come
- 1:29:18by everybody will leave bottles of water
- 1:29:20bottles of water. And so then when they
- 1:29:22wake up in the morning sometimes there's
- 1:29:24pictures of these guys on the sidewalk
- 1:29:26and they'll have like 40 bottles of
- 1:29:27water.
- 1:29:28And it's kind of like, "Yeah, your
- 1:29:30community's looking out for you." But
- 1:29:31they're also shaming you cuz when you
- 1:29:33see a guy walking with 40 different
- 1:29:34bottles of water you know he was
- 1:29:37he has to do something with them. He
- 1:29:39can't just walk away and
- 1:29:40leave them there.
- 1:29:41>> They don't let you litter [laughter]
- 1:29:41over there cuz Japan famously has like
- 1:29:43no suicides.
- 1:29:44>> Yeah.
- 1:29:45>> Yeah.
- 1:29:46>> Yeah, I don't think I don't think we're
- 1:29:47on the same page. I don't think I don't
- 1:29:49think I don't think public shaming
- 1:29:51>> You don't think [laughter] that I think
- 1:29:53he would second guess that [ __ ] He was
- 1:29:54like, "That was really annoying having
- 1:29:55to carry around all those [ __ ]
- 1:29:56bottles of water and do something with
- 1:29:58them." And then like the walk of shame
- 1:29:59of just like carrying all those
- 1:30:01>> But if you drink all of them your
- 1:30:02belly's going to
- 1:30:03>> But I'm not Yeah, but then you got to
- 1:30:05think like
- 1:30:06you know, is this person drinking
- 1:30:08because they just think yeah, I want to
- 1:30:10get really drunk and fall asleep on the
- 1:30:11street or do they have a problem, you
- 1:30:13know, do they have an alcohol problem,
- 1:30:15do they have addiction, you know, and
- 1:30:17shaming as a form of addiction
- 1:30:19management is is
- 1:30:21>> Yeah.
- 1:30:22>> Yeah.
- 1:30:23>> Yeah, but like what
- 1:30:25I mean what what's the alternative just
- 1:30:26going like hey dude, you're drunk on the
- 1:30:28sidewalk. That's awesome.
- 1:30:30>> I think
- 1:30:31>> That's [ __ ] so cool and we love you
- 1:30:32>> Or I mean I think a court is the right
- 1:30:34way a court of of of a judge and a jury
- 1:30:37and then a prosecution and an ability to
- 1:30:39defend an ability to defend yourself an
- 1:30:41ability to you know
- 1:30:44raise it in front of in front of a small
- 1:30:46jury of your peers who can then make a
- 1:30:48verdict based on your crimes. I think
- 1:30:50that's the way
- 1:30:51>> worse than just getting the subtle
- 1:30:53message of a couple bottles of water.
- 1:30:55>> I guess yeah, it depends on the scale, I
- 1:30:56guess, yeah.
- 1:30:57>> Yeah.
- 1:30:58And I guess like a big finger wagging
- 1:31:00and a communal finger wagging and like
- 1:31:02[clears throat] you know, pillory is
- 1:31:04like that's a much more aggressive form
- 1:31:06of shaming than just like the subtle
- 1:31:09like hey dude
- 1:31:12you're drinking too much. Bottle of
- 1:31:13water. Yeah, bottle of water next it's a
- 1:31:15it's a subtle message, but it's one
- 1:31:17that's that's conveyed with like a
- 1:31:19you're going to need this like it's
- 1:31:21almost like a friendly gesture
- 1:31:22>> Yeah.
- 1:31:23>> that can be
- 1:31:25I think
- 1:31:25>> You know what I mean? I'd be in a rage
- 1:31:27>> There's ways to shame [laughter]
- 1:31:30You know what I mean?
- 1:31:34>> This better be vodka. I'm going to kill
- 1:31:35somebody. [laughter]
- 1:31:38I'd go crazy.
- 1:31:39>> there's different ways of shaming is my
- 1:31:41point.
- 1:31:41>> Yeah, yeah.
- 1:31:42>> And there's some that are more
- 1:31:43aggressive than others.
- 1:31:44>> There's nuanced shame.
- 1:31:45>> Yeah, there's nuanced shame.
- 1:31:47>> Yeah.
- 1:31:48And I think I think shaming what's weird
- 1:31:51is like
- 1:31:52like people that [clears throat] beat
- 1:31:52their kids like spanking their kids. I
- 1:31:55don't think that's okay.
- 1:31:57>> No.
- 1:31:57>> Until they get to teenagers.
- 1:31:59And then all of a sudden
- 1:32:02there's nothing more embarrassing than
- 1:32:03getting spanked as a teenager.
- 1:32:05And it's it's not [clears throat] even
- 1:32:06like a
- 1:32:07>> This This happened to you?
- 1:32:09>> Oh my god, dude. Yeah.
- 1:32:10>> Yeah, as a teenager?
- 1:32:11>> As a teenager, yeah.
- 1:32:12>> Oh my god. Well, no. I got I got spanked
- 1:32:15my entire childhood.
- 1:32:17>> [ __ ]
- 1:32:18>> Yeah, but
- 1:32:18>> I can tell.
- 1:32:19>> But as a teenager, like I I remember um
- 1:32:22one of my brother's friends was
- 1:32:23horrific. He was really acting out in
- 1:32:26front of his friends trying to show off
- 1:32:27in front of his dad.
- 1:32:29His dad pulled his pants down and
- 1:32:30spanked him bare ass in front of like
- 1:32:32his friends and his girlfriend was
- 1:32:34there.
- 1:32:35And it just [snorts] like his dad was
- 1:32:37like, "I don't know what the [ __ ] got
- 1:32:38into you, but
- 1:32:40you you spank it out of you." Yeah, I'm
- 1:32:42going to spank it. And the the kid was
- 1:32:43like, "Shit, dude. That was like a
- 1:32:45transformative moment in my life."
- 1:32:47>> [ __ ] That would change everything.
- 1:32:48>> That would change everything. Yeah.
- 1:32:50>> Especially for guys already low on the
- 1:32:52pecking order. If I got spanked
- 1:32:54>> Not only would it just like re it just
- 1:32:56like check you and your family dynamic,
- 1:32:58but that would check the [ __ ] out of
- 1:32:59your family dynamic. You'd be like
- 1:33:01>> That would change a lot. And that would
- 1:33:03be brought up for the rest of your life.
- 1:33:05>> And it would Yeah. And your [ __ ]
- 1:33:06confidence, man. It just completely
- 1:33:09kills your confidence, man.
- 1:33:10>> down too far and showed it like
- 1:33:12>> Did you Did you like
- 1:33:12>> And then she sees your micro penis and
- 1:33:14then they spank you.
- 1:33:15>> [laughter]
- 1:33:16>> Good god.
- 1:33:17It's horrible.
- 1:33:19>> Yeah. Crunching the worm.
- 1:33:21>> That's horrible.
- 1:33:22>> So, when you were being spanked, Sam,
- 1:33:23did you feel it made you less confident?
- 1:33:25Do you feel like it made you feel like
- 1:33:27you were less invincible, less able to
- 1:33:29do anything when you were being shamed
- 1:33:31by your family and like physically?
- 1:33:36>> I don't know.
- 1:33:37>> Have you been spanked in front of Abby?
- 1:33:39>> No. [laughter]
- 1:33:40>> No.
- 1:33:42No. No.
- 1:33:44>> [laughter]
- 1:33:44>> There's no way.
- 1:33:45No way.
- 1:33:47Um I would get like the older I got I
- 1:33:49definitely got like guilt tripped into
- 1:33:51stuff, but no. I think like spanking was
- 1:33:53usually You know, I'm a boy and then I
- 1:33:56I had my brother, so between the two of
- 1:33:58us we were like just unruly.
- 1:34:01You know?
- 1:34:02And for
- 1:34:03for boys for some reason it was just
- 1:34:05like I feel like they have to be like
- 1:34:07checked more with like
- 1:34:10like
- 1:34:11>> What's up?
- 1:34:11>> No. Like yeah, sometimes you just have
- 1:34:13to like body check a boy and just be
- 1:34:15like
- 1:34:16you're going to have to play by the
- 1:34:18rules, kiddo, because I can grind you
- 1:34:20into dust and you're a worm and you live
- 1:34:21under my roof. Um girls I feel like you
- 1:34:24can like
- 1:34:26talk to a little bit [snorts] more.
- 1:34:28You know?
- 1:34:29>> Do you want to talk about it or
- 1:34:31>> [laughter]
- 1:34:31>> You weren't very quiet.
- 1:34:34>> When was the last time you were spanked?
- 1:34:36How old were you?
- 1:34:38>> It's probably
- 1:34:39probably like 11.
- 1:34:41>> How
- 1:34:42>> Yeah, probably like 12. 12, yeah. Well,
- 1:34:45no, then my parents got divorced.
- 1:34:48>> Oh.
- 1:34:48>> You know?
- 1:34:49>> And then it's double the spanking.
- 1:34:51>> Yeah.
- 1:34:51>> Yeah. No, and then I think I was
- 1:34:53>> [clears throat]
- 1:34:54>> it was fine after
- 1:34:55>> I got slapped. I got like face slaps
- 1:34:57once I got to teen, I think. Yeah, yeah,
- 1:34:59face slaps at as a teenager.
- 1:35:01[clears throat]
- 1:35:02It's not like
- 1:35:03>> you were low-key like abused.
- 1:35:05>> [laughter]
- 1:35:05>> That's not cool. That's not good.
- 1:35:07>> Maybe. But you also know me.
- 1:35:10You know what I mean? Like you know the
- 1:35:11buttons I can push.
- 1:35:13>> That's true.
- 1:35:14>> Have you ever considered that maybe
- 1:35:17>> Uh we were just talking about the movie
- 1:35:18earlier.
- 1:35:20Um
- 1:35:22God, with the Detective Island. That's
- 1:35:24actually not that bad. Shutter Island. I
- 1:35:26would have Shutter Island, you?
- 1:35:27>> Yeah.
- 1:35:28Like there there was definitely moments
- 1:35:30where my mom was like you know how like
- 1:35:31rich people can send their kids to
- 1:35:33boarding school? If I had the [ __ ]
- 1:35:35money, you would go to one. Like there
- 1:35:37would be like a military academy you go
- 1:35:39to.
- 1:35:40>> Okay. Yeah. There was never a moment
- 1:35:42where I got where I got like slapped or
- 1:35:44spanked where I didn't look in the
- 1:35:45mirror afterwards and go like I didn't
- 1:35:47deserve that [ __ ] Like I
- 1:35:49>> [laughter]
- 1:35:49>> You know what I mean? Like usually I
- 1:35:51knew that [ __ ] was coming.
- 1:35:52>> damn crow court in here.
- 1:35:54>> Yeah.
- 1:35:55>> So I'm really good at marching up to the
- 1:35:57edges of like what I can get away with.
- 1:36:00>> Yeah, that's true.
- 1:36:01>> And then every once in a while you got
- 1:36:02to go, has that line moved?
- 1:36:04And you step over it. And then and then
- 1:36:07when you get hit you go, that line did
- 1:36:09not move an inch. My god, it didn't move
- 1:36:11an inch.
- 1:36:12>> you would respond well then next time
- 1:36:14we're doing IRL content if you ever
- 1:36:17say something I don't enjoy if I just
- 1:36:18gave you a quick little slap across the
- 1:36:20face so that you just totally shut down.
- 1:36:22>> Yeah, [laughter] a little a little left
- 1:36:23right.
- 1:36:25Yeah.
- 1:36:25>> That's
- 1:36:26ooh.
- 1:36:27>> Wait, you guys never get spanked?
- 1:36:30>> I think I got spanked like twice and it
- 1:36:32was like a very they were like, this is
- 1:36:35something where I think we're supposed
- 1:36:37to do and then afterwards I would just
- 1:36:39be like,
- 1:36:40oh, and they're like, I don't think we
- 1:36:41got THE POINT ACROSS. [laughter]
- 1:36:43AND then pretty quickly giving up. I was
- 1:36:45also like pretty much a goody two shoes
- 1:36:47so I never got slapped across the
- 1:36:50you know, to them.
- 1:36:51>> Mhm.
- 1:36:51>> I would go do my
- 1:36:53I was kind of a bad boy like I said,
- 1:36:54king kid or whatever.
- 1:36:56But [laughter] yeah, around my parents I
- 1:36:58was pretty much like, yes sir, thank
- 1:36:59you. Would you like anything else, sir?
- 1:37:01>> [laughter]
- 1:37:01>> Um
- 1:37:02>> May I take your
- 1:37:03order, sir?
- 1:37:06>> I I I don't think I ever
- 1:37:08got like
- 1:37:10like physically reprimanded over the age
- 1:37:13of like seven or eight.
- 1:37:14>> I mean my dad would do the king what do
- 1:37:16they call it? King Kong game where they
- 1:37:17grab your jaws and open them just wide
- 1:37:19as they can go.
- 1:37:20>> Oh, yeah. Yeah.
- 1:37:22Until until this snaps.
- 1:37:25>> Yeah.
- 1:37:25>> I had my mouth washed out with soap a
- 1:37:27few times. Yeah.
- 1:37:28>> What's weird is you said I don't think I
- 1:37:31ever got physically reprimanded after
- 1:37:33the age of seven.
- 1:37:34>> Mhm.
- 1:37:35>> I feel like I feel like it's more
- 1:37:36immoral
- 1:37:38to hit a kid under the age of seven cuz
- 1:37:40it's like
- 1:37:41they don't have
- 1:37:42>> I was never being I was never being like
- 1:37:45[ __ ] slapped into another kingdom,
- 1:37:48you know what I
- 1:37:48>> like
- 1:37:49>> I was just getting the the the phrase I
- 1:37:50remember very clearly is my little fat
- 1:37:52legs.
- 1:37:53>> [laughter]
- 1:37:54>> Give it a little whack.
- 1:37:56>> Oh, like a little thighs.
- 1:37:57>> Yeah, no, I'm not talking like I'm not
- 1:37:58talking like leaving a bruise. I'm I'm
- 1:38:01I'm talking like, you know,
- 1:38:04>> It's just like I feel like the most
- 1:38:05vulnerable stage of your life is like
- 1:38:08that era of like this first
- 1:38:11couple of years and it's like they can't
- 1:38:13communicate.
- 1:38:15>> So, I sure you like they made sure you
- 1:38:17understood.
- 1:38:19>> Yeah, I was never like my my I never
- 1:38:21felt like my parents were always very
- 1:38:22like they were very kind of
- 1:38:24hippie-esque, I guess. I was I was
- 1:38:26definitely told off and I've forgotten
- 1:38:27so many memories of being like grounded
- 1:38:30effectively and being like, you know,
- 1:38:32just so absolutely distraught at my
- 1:38:35actions when I was a kid because mom and
- 1:38:37dad would would be mad at me and I'd be
- 1:38:39I don't know. I was such a little I was
- 1:38:41such a little people pleaser, I think. I
- 1:38:42was so easy to like if if my mom was
- 1:38:46disappointed in me. Bear in mind, my mom
- 1:38:47like kindest, loveliest, sweetest woman.
- 1:38:50Like if she was angry at me, she let me
- 1:38:52know and I would like I remember Yeah,
- 1:38:55just like that. I remember there was
- 1:38:57there was one time I um I made fun of
- 1:38:59one of my friends for for saying
- 1:39:02something weird and I compared them to
- 1:39:04someone with a mental illness like a
- 1:39:06mental disability and my mom flipped at
- 1:39:09me. She was like she was so mad and I
- 1:39:12just remember going to my room and
- 1:39:13sitting there on the floor and looking
- 1:39:15in the mirror and being like I'm I'm so
- 1:39:17stupid. I'm [ __ ] stupid. Being
- 1:39:19[laughter] like so [ __ ] just beating
- 1:39:21myself up over it. I was I was very I
- 1:39:23was just I didn't I maybe I just didn't
- 1:39:25need to be smacked.
- 1:39:26>> [laughter]
- 1:39:27>> Maybe I was just so self-flagellating.
- 1:39:30>> Yeah, they'd hit me with words. I'm very
- 1:39:33susceptible still to this day to a guilt
- 1:39:35trip.
- 1:39:36Because they were they were very
- 1:39:38effective with it. But some you know, it
- 1:39:40I would say sometimes I did deserve it.
- 1:39:42Um, sometimes they'd be like
- 1:39:46Well, cuz they were divorced and be
- 1:39:47like, "Well, whose house do you want to
- 1:39:48go to? And if you don't go to mine, I'm
- 1:39:50going to be really sad." And I'd be
- 1:39:52like,
- 1:39:53"Ah!"
- 1:39:53Uh, but when I was like a like
- 1:39:57I would never really be that much of an
- 1:39:58[ __ ] I remember the one time my dad
- 1:40:00really yelled at me.
- 1:40:01And it wasn't even that bad. It's cuz I
- 1:40:03was doing prank calls with my cousin.
- 1:40:05And I [snorts]
- 1:40:07was doing like an Austin Powers better
- 1:40:09something. I'm like, "Do I make you
- 1:40:11Randy? Do I make you horny, baby? Yeah."
- 1:40:14And he was like, "I was sitting on the
- 1:40:16other side of the door." And he busted
- 1:40:18in and was like, "Who the hell are you
- 1:40:19talking to?" I'm like, "I don't know.
- 1:40:21Like some kid [laughter] from like
- 1:40:23from Ohio, I guess."
- 1:40:25Yeah. And yeah, he was pretty upset
- 1:40:28about that. But it was like, yeah, most
- 1:40:29of the time I'd just be quoting movies
- 1:40:31is where I'd get in trouble cuz I
- 1:40:33would just think they're so funny.
- 1:40:35>> [laughter]
- 1:40:36>> And they wouldn't even understand like
- 1:40:37the context of what was being said,
- 1:40:39usually.
- 1:40:40>> Yeah.
- 1:40:40>> Yeah.
- 1:40:41>> But uh, I love my parents. They never If
- 1:40:43they If my dad tried to hit me, I'd
- 1:40:45[ __ ] catch that thing.
- 1:40:46>> Yeah, crushes [laughter]
- 1:40:48crushes fist.
- 1:40:50>> I'm way bigger than my parents. I'd
- 1:40:52[ __ ] I I should try employing beating
- 1:40:55them around a little bit, but
- 1:40:56>> You know what I I always did that pissed
- 1:40:58off my parents is they would try to
- 1:40:59punish me in some way and then I would
- 1:41:01go out of my way to make it seem like
- 1:41:03whatever my punishment was was great.
- 1:41:06Like I loved it.
- 1:41:07>> Dude, yeah, I would hate having ears
- 1:41:08[laughter] as a kid.
- 1:41:09>> Yeah, you can see why they resorted to
- 1:41:10just hitting you, right?
- 1:41:12>> I think I would just get close a lot.
- 1:41:14I'd be like
- 1:41:15>> [laughter]
- 1:41:15>> Yeah, flinch check me, little [ __ ]
- 1:41:18>> Yeah.
- 1:41:19>> Yeah, try to act like you like this
- 1:41:21punch, [ __ ]
- 1:41:22>> One of my friends the other day was
- 1:41:23saying one time they like really freaked
- 1:41:25their dad out because they got in a big
- 1:41:28argument with him. And the dad was
- 1:41:29yelling at him and he was like, "What do
- 1:41:31you want to do? Hit me?" When he was
- 1:41:32little kid, the dad's like, "Jesus
- 1:41:34Christ."
- 1:41:35>> [laughter]
- 1:41:35>> He like never laid a finger on him. He's
- 1:41:37like, "Go on, do it." And the dad just
- 1:41:40like cried or something.
- 1:41:41>> [laughter]
- 1:41:41>> I feel like he would do [ __ ] like that.
- 1:41:44>> Sounds a little master manipulator, eh?
- 1:41:47>> I guess, yeah.
- 1:41:48>> siblings?
- 1:41:49>> Oh, yeah. Yeah. Yeah, I have an older
- 1:41:51brother.
- 1:41:52>> Oh, yeah. Just one?
- 1:41:53>> Yeah, it's one, yeah.
- 1:41:54But it Sorry, it was my my entire
- 1:41:57childhood was impacted by his presence,
- 1:42:00okay?
- 1:42:00>> Yeah.
- 1:42:01>> Yeah.
- 1:42:01>> He's a big presence.
- 1:42:02>> Yeah. He came in first. He set a very
- 1:42:06very bad precedent by being a low bar.
- 1:42:10Yeah. No, not like a low Well, low bar
- 1:42:12for good behavior, but like a bad
- 1:42:14precedent for like he was always kind of
- 1:42:16he was always like a problem child.
- 1:42:19And then they expected that of me.
- 1:42:21But I was actually much better than him.
- 1:42:23Yeah, I wasn't like the prob- I wasn't
- 1:42:25the problem kid.
- 1:42:26>> You two were just fat and greedy and
- 1:42:28just did all sorts of evil.
- 1:42:29>> Well, what's probably is if you have a
- 1:42:30fat greedy older brother, then you have
- 1:42:33to be a greedy younger brother, else you
- 1:42:34get nothing.
- 1:42:35>> Cuz you'll get no nutrients.
- 1:42:37>> Yeah. And so,
- 1:42:38you know,
- 1:42:39when dinner was served, yeah, we would
- 1:42:41swoop in like locusts. [snorts]
- 1:42:43>> brother's like that big bird.
- 1:42:44>> Yeah.
- 1:42:45>> [laughter]
- 1:42:46>> Big bird.
- 1:42:46>> Yeah.
- 1:42:47>> Out of the nest He sucks up all the bird
- 1:42:49milk or whatever.
- 1:42:50>> Yeah.
- 1:42:50>> And yeah, shoots you out of the nest.
- 1:42:52>> Yeah.
- 1:42:54But what about you? Do you have any
- 1:42:56brothers and sisters?
- 1:42:57>> Uh
- 1:42:58no, step. I have step siblings.
- 1:43:01>> Were you raised with them?
- 1:43:02>> Yeah, yeah. My parents got divorced when
- 1:43:04I was quite young, so I was I was But
- 1:43:07I've I I kind of like I kind of had a
- 1:43:09few and a lot who I'm not in contact
- 1:43:12with anymore because they were from
- 1:43:14relationships and marriages that didn't
- 1:43:16work out with my
- 1:43:18parents during my upbringing. So, so
- 1:43:20I've had like a kind of cycle of people.
- 1:43:23>> That would be awkward.
- 1:43:24>> Yeah. Although my [clears throat]
- 1:43:25I still like I'm in very good contact
- 1:43:27with two of my step siblings, so.
- 1:43:29>> Yeah. That's nice.
- 1:43:31>> Yeah. Oh, yeah. Do you know what I
- 1:43:32forgot about is I have
- 1:43:34I guess like a half-brother
- 1:43:36>> Oh.
- 1:43:37>> that I've never spoken to.
- 1:43:39>> That's insane.
- 1:43:40>> Yeah. No, I've spoken to
- 1:43:41I remember him. I remember
- 1:43:43[clears throat] him. He's
- 1:43:44>> What do you mean you remember him? I
- 1:43:46>> From when I was like really really
- 1:43:48young.
- 1:43:49Yeah. He was um my dad had a kid
- 1:43:54when he was like
- 1:43:5618 or something with some lady
- 1:43:59and he never really
- 1:44:03like I think was like there for him or
- 1:44:05something and then like when I remember
- 1:44:07when I was young
- 1:44:09I was I was like super young. Probably
- 1:44:12like three or four. He came to visit.
- 1:44:14His name is Josh.
- 1:44:17And he came to visit and he's like way
- 1:44:19older like if if my brother's 5 years
- 1:44:21older than me, I think Josh is like 5
- 1:44:22years older than my brother.
- 1:44:24And so he's old as [ __ ] now.
- 1:44:27And um
- 1:44:29I have no idea what the hell he's even
- 1:44:30doing. I don't even know where he lives.
- 1:44:32I don't even know his name besides Josh.
- 1:44:33[clears throat] I don't know his last
- 1:44:34name.
- 1:44:34>> [laughter]
- 1:44:35>> Well, it's probably the same as your
- 1:44:37dad's, right?
- 1:44:37>> No, no. He I think he changed his last
- 1:44:39name.
- 1:44:39>> Oh, right.
- 1:44:40>> he like renounced my father.
- 1:44:42>> Yeah.
- 1:44:43>> Well, it sounds like your father left
- 1:44:44him to create some
- 1:44:46new family and he was probably like,
- 1:44:48"Oh, fuck."
- 1:44:48>> Yeah.
- 1:44:49Yeah.
- 1:44:50>> What if I bet Josh is like everything
- 1:44:52you and your brother weren't?
- 1:44:53>> Probably, yeah.
- 1:44:54Yeah. [laughter and snorts]
- 1:44:56Yeah. It's
- 1:44:57>> It'd be funny if he was like a podcaster
- 1:44:59a little bit more successful.
- 1:45:00>> Yeah, like way [laughter] better put
- 1:45:01together.
- 1:45:04Yeah. It's like the quality of person is
- 1:45:06immediately impacted by how little of my
- 1:45:08father's presence was there during
- 1:45:10childhood. Yeah.
- 1:45:11>> [laughter]
- 1:45:12>> Not having
- 1:45:12>> Yeah, he was there for like 6 months
- 1:45:14with Josh. So, like Josh is like super
- 1:45:15successful, super well put together.
- 1:45:18Yeah.
- 1:45:18>> [laughter]
- 1:45:20>> He's a Fortune 500 CEO.
- 1:45:23Do you think one day you'll ever try to
- 1:45:26reach out or
- 1:45:28>> You know
- 1:45:28>> like a brother I didn't ever I would be
- 1:45:31like dying to get to know him a little.
- 1:45:33>> You know I I did I pissed off my uncle
- 1:45:35one time cuz he was like, "Hey dude,
- 1:45:36we're having a big family reunion up in
- 1:45:38South Carolina. Are you coming?" Cuz
- 1:45:41you know, they have one every year and
- 1:45:43they keep trying to get me to go. And I
- 1:45:44looked at him and I was like, "Look
- 1:45:46dude, I don't know how to say this, but
- 1:45:48I got enough family with you guys, okay?
- 1:45:51It's enough. I have enough. [snorts]
- 1:45:53And I don't want any more. I don't need
- 1:45:56any more.
- 1:45:57And then all those people died off. So
- 1:45:59now they still have the family reunion
- 1:46:01up in South Carolina and like most of my
- 1:46:03immediate family is dead. And then I
- 1:46:05have my family that I've made.
- 1:46:08You know,
- 1:46:09and so I'm just kind of like I'm more of
- 1:46:11like a nuclear What's it called? A
- 1:46:12nuclear family?
- 1:46:14Yeah, we're just a wife and three kids.
- 1:46:17>> family like cuts off their
- 1:46:20like extended relatives. That's what I
- 1:46:22said it is.
- 1:46:22>> Yeah, but they don't [clears throat]
- 1:46:23you know, I'm not going to go like I'm
- 1:46:25not going to go like hang out with my
- 1:46:28my extended family up in South Carolina
- 1:46:31and shake hands with all those people.
- 1:46:32>> like pretty not super extended, right?
- 1:46:36So I kind of Like I only have half
- 1:46:38siblings. So like to me I'm like
- 1:46:40that's just your sibling.
- 1:46:41>> I think people put way too much stock in
- 1:46:45in like blood ties and family bond. I
- 1:46:48think I have way better
- 1:46:50>> nuclear family.
- 1:46:51>> [laughter]
- 1:46:51>> No, no, I mean like I'm never going to
- 1:46:52invite
- 1:46:53>> I'm such a nuclear family.
- 1:46:55I'm a total [ __ ]
- 1:46:57>> [laughter]
- 1:46:57>> No, no, I mean like I have me and Abby
- 1:47:00and our kids very important.
- 1:47:03But the other people like if I don't
- 1:47:05like you a whole lot and we don't get
- 1:47:07along like I'm not going to put up with
- 1:47:09your presence just cuz you're related.
- 1:47:12>> or are you guys
- 1:47:13just frozen?
- 1:47:14>> We're frozen, dude.
- 1:47:15>> Uh why did you both just stop talking or
- 1:47:18did I
- 1:47:18>> we totally stopped talking. We're
- 1:47:19waiting on you.
- 1:47:20>> I don't like you
- 1:47:22and then it just went
- 1:47:24>> Oh yeah, if I don't like you and you're
- 1:47:25just related like [laughter] through
- 1:47:27blood like I don't I'm not going to hang
- 1:47:29out just cuz you're related, you know.
- 1:47:33>> Yeah, I get that. But what if you did
- 1:47:34like him though? That's what I'm asking.
- 1:47:36Like well you don't know him at all. So
- 1:47:37like what if he was actually like
- 1:47:40pretty cool. What if he had a like a I
- 1:47:41don't know like a cool beard?
- 1:47:43>> What if he had a motorcycle? What if he
- 1:47:45had a motorcycle?
- 1:47:46>> Yeah.
- 1:47:48Is it worth traveling to South Carolina
- 1:47:49for?
- 1:47:50>> No, not really.
- 1:47:51>> Well, with the invention of the phone
- 1:47:52and the
- 1:47:53>> [laughter]
- 1:47:54>> um
- 1:47:55you know, stuff like that.
- 1:47:56>> There's there's a billion people on this
- 1:47:58planet.
- 1:47:59I got
- 1:48:00>> Yeah, okay. I get what you're saying.
- 1:48:02>> I mean there's so many people out there.
- 1:48:03I'm not going to just like
- 1:48:05hope that there's cool people in my
- 1:48:07extended family.
- 1:48:09>> He's your half-brother. He's not like
- 1:48:10that He's not Well, I I see what you You
- 1:48:12guys I know you aren't brotherly because
- 1:48:14you weren't raised at all together.
- 1:48:17But
- 1:48:17>> You probably got the same diseases.
- 1:48:18>> extended family or
- 1:48:21>> Yeah, but I'm not going to go out of my
- 1:48:22way to try to find some common ground
- 1:48:24with this guy that's like 10 years older
- 1:48:26than me.
- 1:48:28>> Diseases.
- 1:48:30I would like to talk to him.
- 1:48:31>> Diseases? What like like we have a
- 1:48:33common medical history?
- 1:48:35>> You'll have the same diseases.
- 1:48:37>> Yeah dude, how's your prostate doing?
- 1:48:38Okay, colorectal cancer? No? All right,
- 1:48:40don't [laughter] ever talk to me again.
- 1:48:41>> he's like a good maybe like prediction.
- 1:48:43He's like your look 10 years into the
- 1:48:45future and you could probably
- 1:48:47>> That is a possibility. Oh well, no.
- 1:48:49Here's another problem is that
- 1:48:51they always joked that I was like the
- 1:48:52milkman's kid cuz I don't look anything
- 1:48:55like anybody else in my family.
- 1:48:57And I'm taller than everybody in my
- 1:48:58family.
- 1:49:00And I'm not built like anybody in my
- 1:49:01family.
- 1:49:03Like there's nothing I I look like I'm
- 1:49:04adopted.
- 1:49:07>> Mhm.
- 1:49:08>> So it's all it's all coming to a
- 1:49:09problem.
- 1:49:10>> in this episode of the
- 1:49:11>> No, no. The problem is like if I look so
- 1:49:14[ __ ] different, surely if I go like
- 1:49:16get medical history from this guy it's
- 1:49:17not going to I feel like it would have
- 1:49:19very little bearing on me.
- 1:49:21>> Is your brother I thought your bro- I
- 1:49:23always just pictured your brother as
- 1:49:24taller than you.
- 1:49:25>> No, he's like 5'10.
- 1:49:27>> Really?
- 1:49:28>> Yeah. No, he's like
- 1:49:29>> He's like wow, that changed. I thought
- 1:49:30he was like a In my head he's like this
- 1:49:32big beast of a man.
- 1:49:33>> No.
- 1:49:35No, he he's just he's wide. So, he looks
- 1:49:38big.
- 1:49:39He's he's he's wide. Yeah.
- 1:49:42>> I bet his arms are like tree trunks.
- 1:49:44>> Yeah.
- 1:49:45>> It's really cool.
- 1:49:46>> Yeah.
- 1:49:47>> I bet Josh has got even a
- 1:49:49bigger arms.
- 1:49:50>> Bro.
- 1:49:50He's going to he's he's
- 1:49:51>> Oh, Josh. I wish you were Josh. I wish
- 1:49:53you were Josh.
- 1:49:54>> Can I meet
- 1:49:55>> I wish you were Josh. [laughter]
- 1:49:57God.
- 1:49:58Poor Josh, what have I done?
- 1:49:59>> You don't want to meet Josh. I'll go
- 1:50:01meet him.
- 1:50:01>> Where do I find Josh?
- 1:50:02>> Yeah, go meet him, dude.
- 1:50:04I get the feeling he if I remember
- 1:50:06correctly, I think
- 1:50:07my family reached out to him and he was
- 1:50:09like, "I'm good."
- 1:50:11>> He sounds just like you.
- 1:50:12>> [laughter]
- 1:50:13>> It's actually the medical history that
- 1:50:14>> Oh, I'm interested actually. Yeah, if he
- 1:50:16has the same sentiment where he's just
- 1:50:18like
- 1:50:19>> I got enough going on here. I'm good. I
- 1:50:21got my I got my personal like tight
- 1:50:24relationships with these people. I'm I
- 1:50:26don't want to [ __ ] it up. That is
- 1:50:27actually very much like me. Yeah.
- 1:50:30I might reach out.
- 1:50:31>> you would hug?
- 1:50:32>> Nah.
- 1:50:33>> I just hugged my stepdad for the first
- 1:50:35time in my life the other day.
- 1:50:37It was um it was nice.
- 1:50:39>> I can't believe that's the first time
- 1:50:41cuz I hugged him at the beach.
- 1:50:43>> I know and I I thought maybe it's time.
- 1:50:46Yeah. It's one of those things, you
- 1:50:47know, when you It's almost like when you
- 1:50:49don't reply to a message and then it
- 1:50:50just gets longer and longer. It's like
- 1:50:52the first time we didn't so then it's
- 1:50:53like, well, it'll be nicer actually if I
- 1:50:56don't ever.
- 1:50:57But uh yeah, it's just a little update
- 1:50:59in my life.
- 1:50:59>> I did a wood working.
- 1:51:00>> good?
- 1:51:02Um it was warm.
- 1:51:04>> Yeah.
- 1:51:06>> Felt nice in a way.
- 1:51:07>> Do you think you liked it more than he
- 1:51:09did or do you think he liked it more
- 1:51:11than you did?
- 1:51:13>> Physically, I could tell I liked it
- 1:51:15>> [laughter]
- 1:51:17>> Ew. Uh
- 1:51:18I don't know.
- 1:51:19>> Yeah.
- 1:51:19>> I'd have to ask. I didn't I thought that
- 1:51:21would be too far to go so how was it?
- 1:51:23>> [laughter]
- 1:51:26>> How was it for you?
- 1:51:28>> My
- 1:51:28>> Was it as good for you as it was for me?
- 1:51:30>> I did I've been I've been connected to
- 1:51:31my stepdad, too. We did a little
- 1:51:33woodworking project together recently.
- 1:51:35We just finished it the other day. It's
- 1:51:36really fun.
- 1:51:37>> What did you make?
- 1:51:38>> We made a bench.
- 1:51:40>> Oh.
- 1:51:41>> Yeah, it was it was fun. It was really
- 1:51:43good.
- 1:51:43>> Didn't have you hug like a big
- 1:51:44>> I've hugged him. I've hugged him. But we
- 1:51:46didn't hug while we were doing the
- 1:51:47woodworking. That would be dangerous and
- 1:51:48also unmanly.
- 1:51:51>> Yeah. [laughter] Yeah.
- 1:51:52>> We had to be alpha men while we were
- 1:51:54cutting plywood.
- 1:51:56>> Making a bench, the coolest
- 1:51:59wood made thing, manliest thing you can
- 1:52:01make.
- 1:52:02>> Yeah, in a shed.
- 1:52:02>> So you can sit right next to each other.
- 1:52:04>> Yeah.
- 1:52:04>> [laughter]
- 1:52:05>> We We gave it a little test.
- 1:52:08>> Oh, this is nice.
- 1:52:10>> [laughter]
- 1:52:11>> Yeah, sit on top of a little hug.
- 1:52:12>> Hold on, let me stabilize myself. Put
- 1:52:14your hand on his thigh. [laughter]
- 1:52:16>> Oh, [ __ ]
- 1:52:18Just want to be in this moment a little
- 1:52:20longer.
- 1:52:21>> Yeah.
- 1:52:22>> [laughter]
- 1:52:23>> Yeah.
- 1:52:24Man, I need I need to do some more
- 1:52:26woodworking. I feel like when when
- 1:52:28something comes together
- 1:52:30>> Mhm.
- 1:52:30>> while you're doing woodworking and it
- 1:52:32everything just
- 1:52:33it just works.
- 1:52:34>> Yeah. It's
- 1:52:35>> God, it feels like a million bucks.
- 1:52:37>> But
- 1:52:37>> But 90% of the time there's a huge [ __ ]
- 1:52:41up halfway through the project and I go,
- 1:52:43>> [ __ ]
- 1:52:44>> And then I just I kind of set it aside
- 1:52:47for a while. Or I just live with it.
- 1:52:49Like with this desk where there's every
- 1:52:51time I sit down I go, "Oh, there's like
- 1:52:5380 [ __ ] ups I see."
- 1:52:54>> [laughter]
- 1:52:55>> Oh, well.
- 1:52:56I'll deal with it.
- 1:52:57>> A little touch of character, maybe.
- 1:53:00>> Yeah.
- 1:53:02>> I'm just trying to be nice. You're not
- 1:53:03very good at woodworking and you're a
- 1:53:05bad steward [clears throat]
- 1:53:06>> Yeah, steward [laughter] steward.
- 1:53:09>> All your favorite things to do you're
- 1:53:10just not that great at. And
- 1:53:12when you start a new hobby you should be
- 1:53:14at the peak.
- 1:53:15>> Uh right away, yeah.
- 1:53:16>> So you have to be good.
- 1:53:18>> Yeah.
- 1:53:18>> Yeah.
- 1:53:20>> The There was I did have some like
- 1:53:21heirloom side tables that were I don't
- 1:53:25want to say side tables. They were like
- 1:53:26little um three-legged tables that
- 1:53:30>> Three legs?
- 1:53:31>> that had like tiers. It was like a the
- 1:53:33top and then it had a like a middle
- 1:53:35shelf and they were meant to put um
- 1:53:37potted plants on.
- 1:53:38>> Were there backs on the tiers or is it
- 1:53:40open?
- 1:53:41>> They were open.
- 1:53:43>> Okay.
- 1:53:43>> It's a cascade planter, right?
- 1:53:45>> Yeah. Yeah. Like a little yeah.
- 1:53:48>> And um these were kind of like the legs
- 1:53:51were cut so that they had like they went
- 1:53:54out at the bottom like like little
- 1:53:55Victorian legs. Yeah. Like little
- 1:53:58serifs.
- 1:53:59>> And you hate serifs.
- 1:54:00>> I do. I have a
- 1:54:01>> I didn't know you had a half brother but
- 1:54:03I knew that you don't like serifs.
- 1:54:05>> Well, there's some [laughter] things
- 1:54:06about me that I I keep
- 1:54:08>> You're a man of mystery.
- 1:54:09>> I keep close to my chest.
- 1:54:10>> were a
- 1:54:11were a beaten child with a mystery
- 1:54:13brother but you learn something new
- 1:54:14every day.
- 1:54:15>> Yeah. Well, the things that I'm
- 1:54:18There's some things I profess to the
- 1:54:19world.
- 1:54:20Like my hatred of serifs.
- 1:54:22>> Mhm. Right.
- 1:54:23>> Some things I don't. Like my hidden
- 1:54:25brother.
- 1:54:26>> Like my love for my secret brother.
- 1:54:28[laughter]
- 1:54:28>> Yeah.
- 1:54:29And my and my my love for punishment as
- 1:54:32a child.
- 1:54:33>> [laughter]
- 1:54:36>> God, I love this.
- 1:54:37>> Yeah, and it sounds like you're you did
- 1:54:40um in a way you're like very
- 1:54:42interesting.
- 1:54:43>> I deserved it.
- 1:54:44>> Deserved it.
- 1:54:45>> it at the time, yeah. And I And also I
- 1:54:47hope that my kids are never Like I I
- 1:54:49could never see my kids acting as bad as
- 1:54:51I acted to get my punishments, you know
- 1:54:54what I mean?
- 1:54:56>> But if they did you would hit them?
- 1:54:58>> I'd clock them right in the [ __ ]
- 1:54:59head, dude.
- 1:55:00>> Okay.
- 1:55:00>> Boom! No, I would I wouldn't. I wouldn't
- 1:55:03hit my kids. No. There's something
- 1:55:05different about being a girl dad, you
- 1:55:07know?
- 1:55:08You You can't You can't like roughhouse
- 1:55:11with your kids as much.
- 1:55:14>> All roughhousing.
- 1:55:16>> Yeah.
- 1:55:17>> Kind of [laughter] a
- 1:55:18large and complicated word here.
- 1:55:22You can't like [snorts] beat on them.
- 1:55:24Like roughhouse with
- 1:55:24>> on them as hard. You know what I'm
- 1:55:26saying?
- 1:55:27Another kid.
- 1:55:28>> Would you ever have a third?
- 1:55:30>> No. Are you [ __ ] kidding me? No, I
- 1:55:32would never have a third.
- 1:55:34You can't have just one because they end
- 1:55:36up being a psycho, and you can't do
- 1:55:38that.
- 1:55:39Only children, [clears throat] you can
- 1:55:41smell them from a mile away. They're
- 1:55:43They're the way that they act, they're
- 1:55:45ego maniacs.
- 1:55:47Now, only children are They're odd.
- 1:55:49They're odd ones.
- 1:55:51So, you have to have a second one to
- 1:55:52kind of level them out, you know?
- 1:55:55But, having more than that, unless you
- 1:55:57have like unless you're Amish and you
- 1:55:59have a farm that need you need farm
- 1:56:01hands on.
- 1:56:03>> [cough and clears throat]
- 1:56:04>> You know?
- 1:56:05>> More mouths.
- 1:56:05>> out kids to work the family farm.
- 1:56:08>> Toil. You're looking for toiling
- 1:56:10children is what you're looking for.
- 1:56:12Yeah.
- 1:56:13>> I do think children don't get enough
- 1:56:14toil.
- 1:56:16>> I I think so, too.
- 1:56:18Yeah.
- 1:56:19>> [laughter]
- 1:56:19>> Um They got to have little tasks.
- 1:56:21>> ever seen those pictures of like
- 1:56:24like kids from the the 1800s that are
- 1:56:26chimney sweeps and they're like 5 years
- 1:56:27old with their little suits on covered
- 1:56:30in soot?
- 1:56:32And I'm like, I can't even get my kids
- 1:56:34to empty the [ __ ] dishwasher, let
- 1:56:35alone climb up on top of a three-story
- 1:56:37building and sweep the chimney, you
- 1:56:39know?
- 1:56:40>> The thing is, and I've looked up a lot
- 1:56:41of chimneys in my day. I've I've looked
- 1:56:44up in a lot of chimneys cuz every house
- 1:56:46in England has a chimney pretty much.
- 1:56:48And I I my one here, it's like [ __ ]
- 1:56:52it's like this big. It's like, how the
- 1:56:53[ __ ] were they sending kids up there,
- 1:56:55man? Like it's it's tiny. It's like you
- 1:56:57could only you can you know
- 1:56:59>> Or maybe you get some little kids.
- 1:57:00>> Yeah, so yeah, just have really small
- 1:57:02children.
- 1:57:02>> [laughter]
- 1:57:03>> You're going to be like play the roll
- 1:57:05the genetic dice and hope to get
- 1:57:07>> they open up, right?
- 1:57:09>> What, the chimneys?
- 1:57:10>> Yeah, they open up. You don't send them
- 1:57:11from the top, do you? Yeah, they climb
- 1:57:14up on the roof. Yeah, they climb up on
- 1:57:16the roof.
- 1:57:17And they have the little 5-ft ladder
- 1:57:19that they lean up against the chimney.
- 1:57:21And then you get up there with a big
- 1:57:23brush that has like you'll have like
- 1:57:25several pieces of cane that you like
- 1:57:27kind of screw together or fix together
- 1:57:29and you push it down there like a big
- 1:57:31Q-tip and go
- 1:57:33and then you pull it back up. Imagine
- 1:57:35it's like a giant rifle, like a big
- 1:57:37musket that you're like you put the rod
- 1:57:39down there to pack it.
- 1:57:39>> Yeah, yeah. I imagine it's like reverse
- 1:57:41Santa.
- 1:57:43Like they just climb down.
- 1:57:44>> No, cuz then then you you would sit
- 1:57:46there and get all the soot in your face.
- 1:57:48Yeah.
- 1:57:48>> Well, yeah, but I thought that was just
- 1:57:49part of the
- 1:57:50>> [laughter]
- 1:57:50>> joyous toil.
- 1:57:52Oh, I thought that was just part of the
- 1:57:53joyous toil.
- 1:57:55>> Maybe the one that's at the bottom with
- 1:57:57the bucket getting all the collecting
- 1:57:59all the soot, maybe he gets covered.
- 1:58:00>> That's the one getting blasted and then
- 1:58:01his stolen valor takes the picture and
- 1:58:04grabs the loot.
- 1:58:05>> [laughter]
- 1:58:06>> You know kids get like weird hyper
- 1:58:07focuses like
- 1:58:09like I love dinosaurs. I'm going to love
- 1:58:11dinosaurs for 5 years or whatever. My
- 1:58:13cousin lucked out. His kid like since he
- 1:58:17was a toddler, he loves vacuums
- 1:58:20and like cleaning stuff.
- 1:58:22He's like three or four, maybe he's like
- 1:58:24three now.
- 1:58:26And I went to his birthday party and
- 1:58:27they just everyone got him like
- 1:58:30kid vacuum cleaner, all this [ __ ] And
- 1:58:32they actually like they put his little
- 1:58:33ass to work. Like he loves like
- 1:58:35vacuuming the carpet
- 1:58:37>> [laughter]
- 1:58:37>> and like cleaning surfaces.
- 1:58:39>> Yeah.
- 1:58:40>> I'm like, what? That's
- 1:58:41>> My kids
- 1:58:43>> He's toiling [laughter] like crazy and
- 1:58:44he loves it.
- 1:58:45>> My kids don't like the vacuum cuz it's
- 1:58:48loud, but they want to mop. They're
- 1:58:50like, "Oh, I want to mop." But then I'm
- 1:58:52like, "This is a wood floor
- 1:58:54and you're going to put a gallon of
- 1:58:55water on it and it's going to [ __ ] up my
- 1:58:57floor. So, I can't even let them do the
- 1:58:58one thing they want to do." I was like,
- 1:58:59"You can mop the bathroom, maybe."
- 1:59:01>> Yeah. You thought giving them a power
- 1:59:03washer.
- 1:59:04Don't give them one of those power
- 1:59:05washers. They'd probably love that [ __ ]
- 1:59:06Just
- 1:59:08on your on your like patio. Would you Do
- 1:59:10you have a patio? What do you call that
- 1:59:11in American?
- 1:59:12>> A
- 1:59:13>> Uh
- 1:59:13>> deck.
- 1:59:14>> Yeah. I have a I have a port Yeah. I
- 1:59:17have a deck. I don't have a patio.
- 1:59:18Patios usually like pavers, you know,
- 1:59:21not wood. Yeah.
- 1:59:22>> That's what we just call any like hard
- 1:59:25outdoor flooring in the UK, I guess.
- 1:59:27>> The problem is with a power washer is
- 1:59:29you could [ __ ] up somebody with a power
- 1:59:30washer.
- 1:59:31>> I saw my my dad shot my step grandpa at
- 1:59:33the top of his hand.
- 1:59:36Really? Old ass skin.
- 1:59:37>> Yeah.
- 1:59:38>> [ __ ]
- 1:59:38>> Yeah, they're cleaning a boat and
- 1:59:39accidentally just just hit the top and
- 1:59:42it slid all the old skin off. Oh, [ __ ]
- 1:59:45Yeah.
- 1:59:46>> That sucks.
- 1:59:47Oh, I did have a I did have kind of
- 1:59:50>> [clears throat]
- 1:59:51>> Yeah.
- 1:59:51>> I have something awesome I want to talk
- 1:59:53about. Hold on. Let me bring Can I bring
- 1:59:55me over
- 1:59:55>> Oh, is this the Oh, what the hell?
- 1:59:57>> Here we go. Okay. Wait, it's not making
- 1:59:59me wide screen. I want to be wide
- 2:00:01screen.
- 2:00:02>> Is this the vague mistake?
- 2:00:04>> Yeah.
- 2:00:05>> I was in a castle.
- 2:00:06>> Woah! This is [ __ ]
- 2:00:08>> Okay, this is insane. We're in the
- 2:00:09future.
- 2:00:10>> How do I make myself wide screen? I
- 2:00:12can't.
- 2:00:14>> Dude, I'm getting dizzy.
- 2:00:15>> Yeah. It doesn't matter. Okay, you know
- 2:00:17what I'm going to do? I'll do it like
- 2:00:18this. I'll uh
- 2:00:20Okay, so you remember how on this
- 2:00:23podcast we've been talking about Steve
- 2:00:25Zahn. We love Steve Zahn.
- 2:00:27>> Yes.
- 2:00:27>> We're huge Zahn heads on this podcast.
- 2:00:30Do you know who Steve Zahn is?
- 2:00:31>> god.
- 2:00:32Is that like not his name or something?
- 2:00:34>> Uh I have over here I've Let me move
- 2:00:37this. Uh-oh.
- 2:00:40These are Wait, is it mirrored for you
- 2:00:42guys?
- 2:00:42>> That's not Steve Zahn down there.
- 2:00:45>> It's normal.
- 2:00:45>> Okay.
- 2:00:46>> So, that's not him in Kong: Skull
- 2:00:48Island?
- 2:00:49>> We have Every time we've talked about
- 2:00:51Steve Zahn
- 2:00:53I think
- 2:00:54>> You
- 2:00:55>> you have been talking about Steve Zahn.
- 2:00:58I have been talking about a completely
- 2:01:01different guy. Every movie on the
- 2:01:03left-hand side of this panel
- 2:01:05>> I was going to say, that's a different
- 2:01:06dude.
- 2:01:06>> His name is Shea Whigham.
- 2:01:07>> Dude, yes, because I remember being
- 2:01:09like, I don't remember him in True
- 2:01:11Detective.
- 2:01:12>> Yeah.
- 2:01:12>> At all.
- 2:01:13>> That's him in the second panel on the
- 2:01:15left. That's Shea Whigham. I don't even
- 2:01:16like STEVE ZAHN.
- 2:01:18>> WHAT?
- 2:01:19>> [screaming]
- 2:01:19>> STEVE ZAHN.
- 2:01:21>> WHAT?
- 2:01:22>> STEVE Zahn's a punk [ __ ] Shea Whigham
- 2:01:25is where [laughter] it's at.
- 2:01:26>> I'm a Shea
- 2:01:28I'm a Shea Whigham man.
- 2:01:30>> Pull that back up.
- 2:01:30>> Dude, Shea Whigham Have you seen Death
- 2:01:32by Lightning?
- 2:01:33>> No, I've not seen Death by Lightning,
- 2:01:35dude.
- 2:01:35>> Uh By the way, Wilbur, you might want to
- 2:01:37check it out. It's about um
- 2:01:38>> Oh my god.
- 2:01:39>> the President Garfield's
- 2:01:41presidency.
- 2:01:42>> How does it got Steve Zahn in it?
- 2:01:44>> Yeah, and he plays Conkling.
- 2:01:46>> Mhm.
- 2:01:47>> Um and also Chester Arthur is played by
- 2:01:51uh that libertarian guy from um
- 2:01:54Parks and Rec. I forget his name. But uh
- 2:01:57yeah, Shea Whigham rocks.
- 2:01:59>> You say you don't [ __ ] I remember
- 2:02:00talking about Sahara. You don't You
- 2:02:02don't [ __ ] with Sahara?
- 2:02:04Does it have Shea Whigham in it?
- 2:02:06>> No. [clears throat]
- 2:02:07>> Oh, what? Bro. Come on. We had the whole
- 2:02:11Zahn head thing. We had We were
- 2:02:12>> Well, I'm
- 2:02:14>> get him on the podcast if we could.
- 2:02:16>> Nope. I'm out of the fandom. I'm out of
- 2:02:18the [ __ ] Zahn fandom.
- 2:02:19>> Dude, look [laughter] at those movies on
- 2:02:20the right. Anaconda clears True
- 2:02:23Detective.
- 2:02:23>> Are you kidding me?
- 2:02:25Death by Lightning, True Detective? He's
- 2:02:27in Righteous Gemstones.
- 2:02:28>> What? White Lotus. I mean, I notice you
- 2:02:30don't have Saving Silverman. You don't
- 2:02:32have
- 2:02:33Diary of a Wimpy Kid. Like some more
- 2:02:35notable Steve Zahn roles.
- 2:02:37>> is The problem is with those movies is
- 2:02:39it's more clear that he's not Shea
- 2:02:41Whigham. They do look a lot alike,
- 2:02:44but I feel like
- 2:02:45>> you even pulled that up. I'm like, only
- 2:02:47the Kong: Skull [laughter] Island.
- 2:02:49That's not Steve Zahn.
- 2:02:50>> Yeah.
- 2:02:51>> But they they all weren't.
- 2:02:53>> Yeah.
- 2:02:54>> Wow, that is uh
- 2:02:56>> That's remarkable. I I
- 2:02:57>> That's a good miscommunication. I was
- 2:02:59wondering what else we're totally not
- 2:03:01talking about the same things on.
- 2:03:02>> I don't know, man. And it it's so funny,
- 2:03:04too, cuz yeah, like every time we
- 2:03:06brought him up, I think the only things
- 2:03:07I was like, I really liked him in this,
- 2:03:10it was
- 2:03:11not even a thing that Zahn was ever in.
- 2:03:14>> always Yeah, I'm always like, huh, okay,
- 2:03:16I didn't know he was in that.
- 2:03:18And I'm not even like a super Zahn fan.
- 2:03:21Well, I am. I'm a Zahn hater or
- 2:03:22whatever.
- 2:03:23>> Yeah.
- 2:03:23>> But I thought we just had a mutual
- 2:03:25admiration for his kind of quirkiness.
- 2:03:27>> And his varied filmography. Obviously
- 2:03:30varied is almost like two actors worth
- 2:03:32of a filmography.
- 2:03:34>> he do it all?
- 2:03:34>> Yeah, how does he both funny and such a
- 2:03:37great character actor?
- 2:03:39>> Four projects in one year. It's just
- 2:03:41remarkable.
- 2:03:42>> Yeah.
- 2:03:43Yeah.
- 2:03:44>> Holy [ __ ]
- 2:03:45I You know, it's funny, too, that uh
- 2:03:48in the Oh, I don't remember. I had a
- 2:03:50segue like three times in this, and then
- 2:03:52I totally forgot. But as some prep for
- 2:03:54this,
- 2:03:55I watched your first appearance, Wilbur,
- 2:03:58on this podcast.
- 2:04:00Uh I made about halfway through. You
- 2:04:01know, it's pretty good. Um
- 2:04:03but I got uh some like
- 2:04:04>> Yeah, it is Zahn to do that.
- 2:04:07>> But it was funny cuz
- 2:04:09Sam asked you God damn it, Sam, what's
- 2:04:12the name of the movie? At one point he's
- 2:04:13like, have you ever seen Thunder
- 2:04:15Thunderstruck?
- 2:04:17>> No, Rolling Thunder.
- 2:04:18>> Rolling Thunder.
- 2:04:20And you're like, no. No, I haven't seen
- 2:04:22it. He's like, oh, it's awesome. This
- 2:04:23guy puts he gets his hand shoved down a
- 2:04:24garbage disposal. They put a hook on his
- 2:04:26arm.
- 2:04:27And then last night, after we tried to
- 2:04:30do this podcast and it didn't work, Sam
- 2:04:31and I were talking for a while, and he's
- 2:04:33like, "Dude, have you ever seen Rolling
- 2:04:35Thunder? They This guy gets his arm
- 2:04:37shoved in like the exact way.
- 2:04:39>> Yeah. [laughter] It's exactly the same.
- 2:04:41And uh
- 2:04:42I bet I imagine that must be how people
- 2:04:44that watch this podcast feel about every
- 2:04:46other episode. I finally get it. I'm
- 2:04:48like
- 2:04:49wow. And then I had somebody in my chat
- 2:04:52the other day telling me about a story I
- 2:04:53told once.
- 2:04:55I'm like I don't remember that. But
- 2:04:56wouldn't it be funny if this happened
- 2:04:57after? And the guy's like, "Dude, that's
- 2:04:59exactly what you and Sam talked about
- 2:05:01for
- 2:05:0210 minutes after."
- 2:05:03>> Yeah.
- 2:05:04>> And uh there was also a funny moment
- 2:05:06where whoever you asked Sam, you're
- 2:05:08like, "Have you ever heard of Jschlatt?"
- 2:05:09Sam's like, "No."
- 2:05:10>> [laughter]
- 2:05:11>> You go, "Oh, you will. He's going to be
- 2:05:12the next big thing." And Sam's just kind
- 2:05:14of like nah.
- 2:05:16>> [laughter]
- 2:05:17>> So.
- 2:05:18>> Yeah, there's no way.
- 2:05:19>> off.
- 2:05:19>> Yeah.
- 2:05:19>> Way off.
- 2:05:21>> That's like my one skill. My one skill
- 2:05:24in in YouTube is identifying who's going
- 2:05:27to who's going to blow up. Yeah. I'm I
- 2:05:30like to think I'm quite a
- 2:05:31>> ever worked the other way?
- 2:05:32>> No.
- 2:05:33>> [laughter]
- 2:05:35>> That's
- 2:05:36a more useful skill.
- 2:05:37Yeah.
- 2:05:39>> Well, using that skill, do you think I'm
- 2:05:41always just going to be kind of like
- 2:05:42sitting there at like
- 2:05:44just like a dead coach?
- 2:05:45>> You're talking the Oracle in the Matrix.
- 2:05:47>> Yeah.
- 2:05:48>> Please.
- 2:05:48>> [laughter]
- 2:05:49>> Please. Answer my riddles.
- 2:05:51>> Yeah, am I just going to be coasting
- 2:05:53forever?
- 2:05:54>> [laughter]
- 2:05:55>> I told you, man. I like I was first time
- 2:05:57I went on Forehead Fables, I was like I
- 2:05:59I went to people afterwards and was
- 2:06:01like, "Oh, I've been on this podcast."
- 2:06:03And I was like, "Do you know this guy
- 2:06:04General Sam?" I'd say it to YouTubers
- 2:06:06and they'd be like, "Nah."
- 2:06:08Like no no one knew. But then I was
- 2:06:10telling the bassist in my band that I
- 2:06:12was going on Forehead Fables. He was
- 2:06:14like, "What? With General Sam? I love
- 2:06:16that guy." He was like so excited about
- 2:06:18it.
- 2:06:18>> I know.
- 2:06:19Yeah.
- 2:06:19>> You clearly have. As much as you like to
- 2:06:22self-deprecate.
- 2:06:23>> [laughter]
- 2:06:24>> Okay. That's nice.
- 2:06:26That's nice.
- 2:06:27>> But I didn't I'm going to I I have to
- 2:06:28say I I wasn't I wasn't due to my
- 2:06:30prediction, I don't think. I think you
- 2:06:33sans my sans my prediction.
- 2:06:36>> Yeah.
- 2:06:37I I think I got a a taste of of like
- 2:06:40that
- 2:06:42like internet fame
- 2:06:45during like the peak of Tarkov.
- 2:06:48And I did not care for it.
- 2:06:51>> I was going to say, was it intoxicating?
- 2:06:52>> It was not. It was [laughter] the
- 2:06:54opposite of intoxicating.
- 2:06:56>> It was intoxicating.
- 2:06:58>> Yeah.
- 2:06:59It was It was um
- 2:07:02It was everything I didn't like about
- 2:07:04this job.
- 2:07:05>> Yeah, if that makes sense.
- 2:07:06>> It's like being a celebrity but with
- 2:07:07none of the respect and all of the fear.
- 2:07:10>> [laughter]
- 2:07:11>> Yeah.
- 2:07:12>> All of the constant looming watching
- 2:07:14eyes and none of the like respect and
- 2:07:17parties.
- 2:07:18>> [laughter]
- 2:07:20>> All the things that celebrities get to
- 2:07:21go and do.
- 2:07:22>> It's just like a I don't know. It's a
- 2:07:24lot of like weird
- 2:07:26parasocial stuff. What I really don't
- 2:07:29like is when people go to bat for you.
- 2:07:31>> Oh, yeah. Yeah.
- 2:07:32>> Like in an argument and then like people
- 2:07:34like speak up for you.
- 2:07:36And I'm like, okay, pump your brakes,
- 2:07:38kid.
- 2:07:38>> Well, see, it's like you don't know me,
- 2:07:40bro.
- 2:07:40>> It's like when I have my friend go get
- 2:07:41my hoodie, it can be awesome. But if you
- 2:07:44had gone over there and broken that
- 2:07:45girl's hand,
- 2:07:46>> This is for Sam and he just puts her in
- 2:07:48a wheelchair.
- 2:07:49>> go to bat for you take it like way too
- 2:07:51far.
- 2:07:52>> Yeah. It's woah, chill out. Yeah, okay.
- 2:07:56>> Um and yeah, I've I had some experiences
- 2:07:59where I was like people were attacking
- 2:08:01people on my behalf and I was like,
- 2:08:05attack them but not that way. Yeah,
- 2:08:07you're you're attacking them the wrong
- 2:08:09way. Do it like this. And then I was
- 2:08:10like, yeah, they were just doing it
- 2:08:12wrong.
- 2:08:13>> Hit them.
- 2:08:13>> Yeah.
- 2:08:14But no, I I yeah, I get it. As it uh
- 2:08:19How does it I I guess it would kind of
- 2:08:21[ __ ] with your your psyche a little bit
- 2:08:22and you did touch on this earlier, but
- 2:08:24like to be so [clears throat] beloved
- 2:08:26and like I remember there was a time
- 2:08:28where
- 2:08:30I mean I've told you this before like on
- 2:08:31Twitter I remember like it was
- 2:08:33like Trump would tweet something and
- 2:08:35then you would tweet something and your
- 2:08:36tweets would get as many likes as his
- 2:08:38tweets.
- 2:08:40And I'm [snorts] like that's the
- 2:08:41president of the [ __ ]
- 2:08:42>> your bedroom at the time.
- 2:08:44>> of the world. He [laughter] wasn't the
- 2:08:46president at the time but like he's
- 2:08:47still very central like political figure
- 2:08:50that people were rallying behind and
- 2:08:52then to see your tweet like destroy his.
- 2:08:55>> Maybe he needed to be funnier.
- 2:08:57>> I was like what the [ __ ] dude? That's
- 2:08:59crazy.
- 2:09:00>> I have a really I have a good memory of
- 2:09:02of that very similar thing you were
- 2:09:03saying. We were um it was during like
- 2:09:05the Dream SMP period and uh and like I
- 2:09:09remember there's a guy on the server
- 2:09:10called him Quackity. He's a streamer you
- 2:09:13may have heard of and he uh he did a uh
- 2:09:16basically Trump was like launching some
- 2:09:19grift and like trying to get everyone to
- 2:09:21like rally behind this hashtag and
- 2:09:23trying to get it to like number one on
- 2:09:25trending. This was like 20 like this was
- 2:09:27a Biden Biden era right? I never
- 2:09:29streamed in Trump era. I was a Biden
- 2:09:31only streamer. [laughter]
- 2:09:33Um
- 2:09:33he he was like around that time and I
- 2:09:35remember he was trying to get everyone
- 2:09:36behind it but Quackity had like made a
- 2:09:39joke on stream that was trending higher
- 2:09:42than Trump's thing and so Trump on like
- 2:09:44[ __ ] Truth Social was just like "Oh
- 2:09:47these [ __ ] kids on the internet
- 2:09:49trying to push us down." And he was like
- 2:09:51getting really mad. This like Minecraft
- 2:09:56>> That's awesome. [laughter]
- 2:09:57>> he wasn't directly calling out but he
- 2:09:59was like "The people of Twitter trying
- 2:10:01to silence my voice. They're trying to
- 2:10:03push me down with this bogus hashtag."
- 2:10:06>> [laughter]
- 2:10:07>> I just I I remember talking with with
- 2:10:09Quackity about it and Quackity was just
- 2:10:10like "What the [ __ ] is this job, man?"
- 2:10:13Like Donald Trump is Donald Trump is
- 2:10:16indirecting us.
- 2:10:17>> [laughter]
- 2:10:17>> He's indirecting Quackity's hashtag.
- 2:10:21>> Is Quackity still Is he still uh doing
- 2:10:24it? Is he still
- 2:10:26>> Yeah, I think he's still rocking it.
- 2:10:28Hope so.
- 2:10:29>> Yeah, it's it's hard to tell like with
- 2:10:32like the Minecraft era, I feel like it
- 2:10:33was
- 2:10:34there is a point where you get so big
- 2:10:36that it's like that there has to be a
- 2:10:37fall.
- 2:10:39There has to be. [clears throat]
- 2:10:40You know, if you get
- 2:10:41if you get huge, there has to be a fall,
- 2:10:43which is so scary.
- 2:10:45>> I mean, I think it's just it's just Mr.
- 2:10:46Beast.
- 2:10:47>> That's true, yeah.
- 2:10:48>> I think it's just clicky in it,
- 2:10:50Minecraft. It's like you you you like I
- 2:10:52think again you said this, I believe. It
- 2:10:54was like you got all these like like
- 2:10:57people rallying behind the story cuz
- 2:10:59it's not about just the individual
- 2:11:00creators. It's the friends. It's the
- 2:11:02group. It's the dynamic between others.
- 2:11:05So, it's like and and when people are
- 2:11:07watching dynamics happening organically
- 2:11:10in real time, they tend to both project,
- 2:11:14connect, and also
- 2:11:16the tea, the drama, the gossip, you
- 2:11:19know, they That's part
- 2:11:20>> You're going to have a third rhyme.
- 2:11:21>> Yeah, it's part of it becomes part of
- 2:11:23the content, you know. So, I think why
- 2:11:25why the Minecraft space looks so
- 2:11:27tumultuous is because of this like this
- 2:11:30teetering soap opera energy that
- 2:11:32underlies the whole current of
- 2:11:35everything. And it's it's it's quite
- 2:11:36pervasive and and really bad, I think,
- 2:11:40personally. But they're they're they're
- 2:11:42kids, a lot of them. So, it's like
- 2:11:43they'll they'll grow up, I'm sure.
- 2:11:45They'll they'll see the light, but
