- 0:02Saturday the 15th of April 1989 the FA
- 0:06Cup semi-final between Liverpool and
- 0:07Nottingham Forest is due to kickoff at
- 0:10300 p.m. the match is being held at
- 0:12Sheffield Wednesday's hillsbor
- 0:16ground all 54,000 tickets have been
- 0:20[Applause]
- 0:24sold by noon on the day of the Cup tie a
- 0:27few fans have started to arrive
- 0:29Liverpool support ERS have been
- 0:30allocated the West End of the hillsbor
- 0:32stadium so their route will keep them
- 0:34away from Nottingham Forest fans
- 0:36arriving from the south this also means
- 0:38the Liverpool supporters will all have

- 2:10superintendent Roger Marshall makes
- 2:12several requests for permission to open
- 2:13the exit gates to relieve the pressure

- 2:22is opened more than 2,000 fans enter
- 2:25many head into the packed pens three and
- 2:28four the gate remains open for about 5
- 2:31minutes during that time the players
- 2:33come onto the pitch and the crowd surges
- 2:35forwards the match kicks off just before
- 2:38300 p.m. the crush at the front of pens
- 2:403 and 4 is now highly dangerous a
- 2:43barrier breaks in pen 3 and people fall
- 2:46forwards it also increases the pressure

- 2:59is unfolding and police stop the match
- 3:02at 6 minutes past three desperate people
- 3:05are lifted over the top of the fences
- 3:07and fans in the upper stand pull others
- 3:09to safety police try to free those at
- 3:11the front through the narrow gates near
- 3:13the pitch there are not enough stretches
- 3:16and supporters use advertising hoardings
- 3:18to carry the injured the first ambulance
- 3:20arrives on the pitch at 14 minutes past
- 3:22three but many fans are already fatally
- 3:25injured
