2. 0:02name is run yanu I'm a historian of
3. 0:04religion educated from the universities
4. 0:06of Copenhagen and Upsala my work aims to
5. 0:09recover Nordic and North European
6. 0:11traditional knowledge in order to
7. 0:13provide EUR descendent populations with
8. 0:16Environmental and Cultural
9. 0:18sustainability I use animist
10. 0:19anthropology and Indigenous knowledge
11. 0:22thinking to encourage and develop
12. 0:24culture of custodianship of kinship with
13. 0:27land and the other than human community
14. 0:29of beings based on my own North European
15. 0:32cultural heritage I communicate this
16. 0:35through scholarship but I also dialogue
17. 0:37with animist language and modes of
18. 0:40thinking myth ceremony religious
19. 0:42practice experience cultural exchange
20. 0:45and I work on making space for a
21. 0:48position that comes into relation in
22. 0:51ethically and politically sound ways in
23. 0:53short Nordic animism explores North
24. 0:56European cultural heritage through the
25. 0:58lens of current animist thinking and
26. 1:01Indigenous knowledge practice it tries
27. 1:03to make this available as building
28. 1:05blocks for contemporary transformation
29. 1:08and renewal of culture self-image
30. 1:12spirituality and eco-activism animism is
31. 1:14a model for human relating to the world
32. 1:17that is deeply rooted in our human
33. 1:20nature and when we look at our own
34. 1:23European culture then we need only
35. 1:25scratch the surface a bit and then we
36. 1:28find in our own heritage land
37. 1:30connectedness animist culture
38. 1:32custodianship and an amazing wealth of
39. 1:35traditional knowledge that has been
40. 1:37historically rejected in the process of
41. 1:40self-colonization that process where we
42. 1:43become white people looking at European
43. 1:46cultural history in similar ways as
44. 1:49contemporary indigenous peoples and
45. 1:51Scholars look at their cultural history
46. 1:54opens a trove of ecological knowledge
47. 1:57that is legitimately ours which is
48. 1:59desperately needed in this time of
49. 2:03ecological collapse what I understand
50. 2:06through the myth of the Ragnarok this
51. 2:08ancient Viking prophecy of collapsing
52. 2:11connectedness on this channel you'll
53. 2:13find content material of Nordic animism
54. 2:16like runic calendars and map Pires and
55. 2:19concrete culture of building relation to
56. 2:22the more than human which is
57. 2:24characteristic of North European culture
58. 2:26you also find animist readings and

75. 3:12practitioners my work targets your
76. 3:14descendant or white people because these
77. 3:17populations are located close to the
78. 3:19root of the enormous problems that the
79. 3:22world faces today but this focus is not
80. 3:25exclusive a Euro descended person is not
81. 3:27necessarily racialized as white and you
82. 3:30could probably say that European her
83. 3:33Heritage is a kind of a general
84. 3:36contribution to culture worldwide today
85. 3:38which means that it probably kind of
86. 3:40belongs to everybody my own PhD actually
87. 3:43centered on afrodiasporic religion
88. 3:46primarily the Brazilian Cult of the
89. 3:48orisha deities and Nordic animism is
90. 3:52inspired by the method inside that
91. 3:54knowledge that these amazing people
92. 3:56shared with me there is a unique
93. 3:58capacity for cultural resilience and
94. 4:01allowing powerful traditional animism to
95. 4:04flourish and survive in contemporary
96. 4:07cities this resilience is partly made
97. 4:10possible by practices of cultural
98. 4:13exchange something that has been barred
99. 4:15from Euro descended people by white
100. 4:18exceptionalism the historical but also
101. 4:21contemporary backlash against Euro
102. 4:23traditional animism secludes traditional
103. 4:26Knowledge from EUR descended people and
104. 4:29and that seclusion actually upholds a
105. 4:32colonial knowledge hierarchy where we
106. 4:35are supposed to be these modernist
107. 4:37rationalist white people as opposed to
108. 4:40some animist savry that is typically
109. 4:43associated with nonwhite others now
110. 4:46looking at all this sometimes mean means
111. 4:49confronting modern sensibilities around
112. 4:53identity and cultural exchange but
113. 4:56clearing a path towards a decolonial
114. 4:58future for people racialized as white is
115. 5:02only going to come from reflecting DEC
116. 5:05colonially on our own culture as
117. 5:07westerners in order to lay the
118. 5:09groundwork for animist respect-based
119. 5:12patterns of relation like indigenous
120. 5:15queer or critical race studies this
121. 5:18traditional knowledge anthropology has
122. 5:20an activist Bend I don't aim to just
123. 5:25describe or diagnose these processes but
124. 5:28also to reach outside of scholarship and
125. 5:31outside of this Channel and provide
126. 5:33practical and instructional material on
127. 5:36how to engage these issues creating
128. 5:39space and manual for Spiritual practices
129. 5:42and ceremony and exploring how that can
130. 5:45be done with political social and
131. 5:47cultural Integrity but this work is only
