  1. 0:00He said there is no need for God. We
  2. 0:02have got science, but got silenced after
  3. 0:04that. Check this out.
  4. 0:06>> There is no need for a God. I mean,
  5. 0:08everything in the world can be
  6. 0:09understood without needing [music] to
  7. 0:12invoke a God. You have to accept that
  8. 0:14that is one possible view to take about
  9. 0:17[music] the world. Sure, that's
  10. 0:18possible, but but do you deny that
  11. 0:21science cannot account for everything?
  12. 0:23>> Yes, I do deny that science [music]
  13. 0:24>> So, what can't it account for?
  14. 0:26>> Well, I had you brought that up in the
  15. 0:28debate. I had a number of examples that
  16. 0:30I was going to give.
  17. 0:31Uh
  18. 0:32I think there are a good number of
  19. 0:33things that cannot be [music]
  20. 0:34scientifically proven, but that we're
  21. 0:36all rational to accept. Let me list Let
  22. 0:38me list five.
  23. 0:40Logical and mathematical truths cannot
  24. 0:42be proven by science. Science
  25. 0:44presupposes logic and [music] math, so
  26. 0:46that to try to prove them by science
  27. 0:48would be arguing in a circle.
  28. 0:50Uh metaphysical truths, like there are
  29. 0:52other minds other than my own, or that
  30. 0:54the external world is real, or that the
  31. 0:56past [music] was not created 5 minutes
  32. 0:58ago with an appearance of age, are
  33. 1:00rational beliefs that cannot be
  34. 1:02scientifically proven. Ethical beliefs
  35. 1:04about statements of value are not
  36. 1:07accessible [music] by the scientific
  37. 1:08method. You can't show by science
  38. 1:11whether the Nazi scientists [music] in
  39. 1:13the camps did anything evil as opposed
  40. 1:16to the scientists in Western
  41. 1:17democracies. Aesthetic judgments, number
  42. 1:19four, cannot [music] be accessed by the
  43. 1:21scientific method because the beautiful,
  44. 1:23like the good, cannot be scientifically
  45. 1:26proven. And finally, most remarkably,
  46. 1:28would be science itself. Science cannot
  47. 1:31[music] be justified by the scientific
  48. 1:32method. Science is permeated with uh
  49. 1:37unprovable assumptions.
  50. 1:38>> [music]
  51. 1:38>> For example, in the special theory of
  52. 1:40relativity, the whole theory hinges on
  53. 1:43the assumption that the speed of light
  54. 1:45is constant in a one-way direction
  55. 1:47between any two points A and B, but that
  56. 1:50strictly cannot be proven. We simply
  57. 1:52have to assume that in order to uphold
  58. 1:54the theory.
