- 0:00Let's look at the most common uses of B
- 0:02versus in Spanish. A lot of times we get
- 0:05confused as English speakers because we
- 0:07want this to mean for in English. And a
- 0:10lot of times it does, but I recommend to
- 0:12master this. Just look at the different
- 0:14situations that trigger B and the
- 0:16different situations that trigger bad
- 0:18and treat them as two different words.
- 0:20So here are some common uses. B can mean
- 0:22for, but when you did something for
- 0:25someone or for a reason or even because
- 0:28of. I did it for you.
- 0:31This means that I really was motivated
- 0:34to do it for you or because of you. It's
- 0:37because of that we couldn't go.
- 0:42Is for someone when they are receiving
- 0:45something. This gift is for you.
- 0:50can also mean in order to. I study to
- 0:53learn or in order to learn
- 0:57can mean through something or even
- 1:00around. Walk through the park.
- 1:03We are walking around the park.
- 1:07When you're talking about duration, how
- 1:09long you did something for, [snorts] you
- 1:11want to use. I worked there for 3 years.
- 1:16When you're exchanging something like
- 1:18money, use poor. I paid $20 for this
- 1:22shirt.
- 1:25Poor can also mean by when you're
- 1:28talking about who something was done by
- 1:30or even by means of maybe transportation
- 1:33or something else.
- 1:36I sent it by mail. This book was written
- 1:40by Maria.
- 1:43Maria para can mean to when you're
- 1:46referring to a destination
- 1:49Madrid. We're going to travel to or for
- 1:52Madrid. I leave for or to Colombia
- 1:55tomorrow
- 1:58manana. When you're talking about
- 1:59deadlines, use para. When you want to
- 2:01say something is due, there's no word
- 2:03for this in Spanish. Instead, you have
- 2:05to say for when something is. this job
- 2:08is due on Monday or this job is for
- 2:12Monday.
- 2:16My last tip is when in doubt, use
- 2:18because if you are wrong, it sounds less
- 2:20wrong than if you used poor. And by the
- 2:23way, go to michaelarpersp.com
