- 0:00labor unions unions we don't think that
- 0:03a labor union is necessary here during
- 0:13my orientation we went through
- 0:15everything and it all seemed pretty
- 0:17normal and then at the very end they
- 0:19showed us this anti-union propaganda
- 0:21video they had these people that they
- 0:23said were Walmart employees and they
- 0:25were talking all about how they felt
- 0:27valued by Walmart and how they felt like
- 0:31they didn't need unions we hope that you
- 0:33never have to deal with a union
- 0:34organizing drive in your facility and
- 0:36they just kind of kept reiterating over
- 0:38and over again like a new union we don't
- 0:40need a union Walmart already treats us
- 0:43pretty well we've got a great thing
- 0:45going here great benefits job security
- 0:47career opportunities I worked there for
- 0:50eight months I didn't have any benefits
- 0:52at all because they didn't give you
- 0:54benefits until you reached a year and
- 0:57even then I had a lot of co-workers that
- 0:59were very purposefully kept under
- 1:00full-time hours so that they wouldn't
- 1:03get benefits millions of people around
- 1:05the world have nothing how can you be
- 1:07upset at a company that provides
- 1:08employment for 1.4 million people my
- 1:11which there was 765 an hour it was part
- 1:16of why I had to leave because I couldn't
- 1:17really afford to pay all of my bills
- 1:19while I was making that amount of money
- 1:22that was even while I was trying to get
- 1:24assistance like food stamps you don't
- 1:26know the major welfare recipient in the
- 1:28United States of America is well at
- 1:31Walmart I lived in a really tiny studio
- 1:33apartment at the time I couldn't afford
- 1:35a car half the time I couldn't really
- 1:37afford the bus so sometimes I would
- 1:39either catch rides with other people or
- 1:41I would have to walk to work I almost
- 1:44always had to pay my rent late why go to
- 1:47the doctor's office when you can go to
- 1:48Walmart now I didn't have any health
- 1:50care the time that I worked there and I
- 1:52have an anxiety disorder so I really
- 1:54should have been on medication but
- 1:56because they couldn't get benefits
- 1:57through Walmart and I couldn't afford
- 1:58them on my own I meant that I had to go
- 2:00without it I come from really small
- 2:01towns and in that town all of the
- 2:04factories went out of business and so
- 2:06the main employer in that town is mostly
- 2:09the Walmart so for people that can't get
- 2:12those factory jobs anymore they had to
- 2:13go to the Walmart because that was the
- 2:15place that was always hiring workers
- 2:17have a choice about where they want to
- 2:18work if they're choosing to work at
- 2:19Walmart you know that is their choice I
- 2:21don't move to that area and try to find
- 2:24something thing because you've all it's
- 2:27kind of one of those things that
- 2:28everyone jokes about with each other
- 2:30everyone's struggling to get by because
- 2:32that's the normal in that environment it
- 2:35was everyone it was every single person
- 2:37that I talked to was worried all the
- 2:39time we don't think that a labor union
- 2:47is necessary here
