- 0:36Sisi, Franz Joseph, the Habsburg monarchy, great palaces and elegance
- 0:42we associate with our new destination. Travel companions, welcome to Vienna!
- 0:55It is the capital of Austria, located next to the Danube River, with impressive
- 1:01buildings. In another video that we have on the channel we have visited Innsbruck so
- 1:07we were owing them a visit to the elegant Vienna.
- 1:13Our itinerary will be three days, which is what we have dedicated,
- 1:17but I can tell you that it was little, at least one more was needed, although
- 1:22if we had had a week we would have surely made good use of it. Lastly
- 1:27, as always, we will leave the hotel and some of the places we had dinner.
- 1:34Before starting, I tell you that here the tourist pass was our ally, it
- 1:39helped us visit everything we saw without taking out almost any extra entrance and many times
- 1:44with quick access, as always I will detail them for each attraction.
- 1:51Shall we begin? Day 1
- 1:56Stephanplatz
- 2:01We will begin this tour at Stephanplatz, the nerve center of the city, later
- 2:07we will show you our accommodation which was just a few steps from here.
- 2:16St. Stephen's Cathedral. We just turned our gaze inside the square and we found
- 2:22one of the most beautiful roofs I have ever seen. St. Stephen's Cathedral.
- 2:39Built between 1137 and 1147, it is in the Gothic Romanesque style and Catholic worship.
- 2:52The interior is very worth it, entry to the cathedral is free,
- 2:56access to the central area with an audio guide costs 6 euros.
- 3:11But what I recommend you do is go up to the terrace from where, apart
- 3:16from getting very good views of the city, you will be able to admire the roof up
- 3:20close, the design is beautiful. The climb is by elevator and the cost is 6 euros.
- 3:38We leave this wonder and direct our steps to the place where we will spend
- 3:42the next few hours of the day, the Hofburg Palace. During the walk we found a large
- 3:51plague column, this Baroque monument was erected in 1679 after the great plague of Vienna.
- 4:16We continue walking towards the Hofburg, approximately one kilometer away,
- 4:20but first we will stop to admire the baroque-style church of San
- 4:25Pedro, admission to it is free.
- 4:42The San Pedro church was built between 1701 and 1733.
- 5:01We are located, here I mark the places visited, as you can see everything is very close.
- 5:11We continue discovering what to see in Vienna. Hofburg Palace.
- 5:29We arrive at the other must-see in Vienna, the Hofburg Palace, if not
- 5:34the number one must-see.
- 5:41This was the winter residence of royalty and is today one of the largest palace complexes
- 5:47in the world, which includes the royal apartments, museums, library, church, and riding school.
- 6:01We are going to highlight the visits that we
- 6:02choose to make within the complex, and name the others that can be added.
- 6:10The entire complex, as I said, includes many things so you can
- 6:14do some of them each day since they have separate entrances.
- 6:18Most of them are included in the Vienna Pass, and this is one of the places where
- 6:23I was convinced that it had been a good idea to get it.
- 6:38Sisi Museum and imperial apartments.
- 6:45Until the end of the monarchy in 1918, the Hofburg in Vienna was the residence
- 6:50and workplace of the imperial family.
- 6:54If there is something that we have surely heard about before going to Vienna, it is Elizabeth of
- 6:59Bavaria, the Empress Sisi, whose story has come down to us from the novels of
- 7:06Marcel D'Isard, the film starring Romy Schneider or further back in time the
- 7:12Netflix series the Empress. So the first visit we will make will be the Sisi museum.
- 7:24In it we will see a little of its history, its dresses and rooms, all with
- 7:29an audio guide that takes you through the rooms, the shame is that it cannot be filmed or
- 7:34taken photographs so we have not been able to document it for you. The number of people
- 7:40is a lot so if they can do it in the morning it will always be better.
- 7:48The Sisi museum, the imperial apartments and the court silverware collection can be visited with the same ticket,
- 7:57the cost of which is €17.50 and is included with the Vienna Pass.
- 8:05A visit I wouldn't miss.
- 8:18Spanish riding school. The Spanish riding school founded in 1565 is one of
- 8:27the most important cultural assets of Austria and considered a true institution. For the
- 8:33school you must reserve a time even if you already have the Vienna Pass and it is right there on the
- 8:37day, if you go in the morning when it opens, at 9 o'clock you will
- 8:43surely find the day's practices to see. Therefore, perhaps it is a good idea to come here first to reserve
- 8:48the ticket and then start the day's tour, or get them on the website, I will leave everything on the blog.
- 8:58You access the practices, not the performance, it takes place on specific dates
- 9:03and the prices start at 30 euros, I leave the website on the blog for the information.
- 9:08As you will see the costs are high and apart from being on specific dates it is possible that you
- 9:15do not coincide with the performance, so being able to see the practices with
- 9:20the horses is a very good option, whether you like horses or to admire
- 9:26this palatial riding hall that is one of the most beautiful in the world. The
- 9:31entrance price for the practices is 16 euros and is also included in the Vienna Pass.
- 9:42Let's now go to a place that I recommend you see, the Austrian National Library.
- 9:56The great hall of the Austrian National Library is one of the
- 10:00most beautiful historical library rooms in the world.
- 10:17Emperor Charles VI was the one who had it built.
- 10:20The room was built between 1723 and 1726.
- 10:42Honestly, the beauty of this library is well worth the visit, the entrance price
- 10:47is 10 euros and it is also included in the Vienna Pass.
- 10:59Are you liking the video? If so, we ask you to subscribe.
- 11:06And if you already did it now, we continue.
- 11:12Imperial Treasure of Vienna
- 11:17As you will see, there are many options that I am leaving you with of what to see in
- 11:21Vienna so that you can choose which ones you want to do.
- 11:27The most important Imperial treasure in the world is in the Hofburg in Vienna, including important
- 11:33imperial crowns. Admission is 14 euros and is also included in the tourist pass. As
- 11:39you can see, there are many things to do at the Hofburg, but since they have separate entrances
- 11:44you can do them on different days. The sum of all the tickets is a lot of money
- 11:50but they are included, as we said, in the pass so it can be a very good option.
- 11:58When you arrive at Hofburg you will find signs with plans of how the places are distributed.
- 12:06Augustinian Church.
- 12:13Located on the west side of the Imperial Palace we will visit the Augustinian church
- 12:17. Numerous marriages of the Imperial House took place there,
- 12:22including the marriage in 1736 of María Teresa with Francisco Esteban and
- 12:27in 1854 of Emperor Francisco José I and Sisi. Admission is free and it is worth going in.
- 12:40Welt Museum is one of the most important ethnological museums in the world and
- 12:45is located in the newest part of the Hofburg. In it you will find, among many other things,
- 12:50Moctezuma's plume. The entrance price is 16 euros and is included in the Vienna Pass.
- 13:02They have lockers in all the Hofburg museums, always have one euro or
- 13:09two euro coins with you, they will put it to close the locker and when it opens it will be returned to you.
- 13:16Also take advantage of the museum bathrooms, they are very well maintained.
- 13:27The Imperial Crypt or Capuchin Crypt is located below the
- 13:31Capuchin Church on the Neuenmarkt, very close to the Hofburg.
- 13:37The remains of 149 members of the Habsburgs have rested here since 1633. The tour is quick, the
- 13:44entrance fee is €8.50 and is included in the Vienna Pass.
- 14:01Although I am leaving you an itinerary trying to highlight all the things in
- 14:08relation to proximity to each other, you can also do,
- 14:12and we did, a free tour, as we do in all cities.
- 14:22I leave you here another visit option that is also very close, it is located in the
- 14:27Monumental Albertina Palace, adjacent to the Hofburg, but that we have not done due to
- 14:33lack of time and that is the visit to the Albertina Museum. It is home to one of the
- 14:40largest and most significant graphic collections in the world. You can visit the Habsburg salons
- 14:45and works by artists such as Monet, Cezanne, Klimt or Picasso among many others.
- 14:51things. The entrance price is 18.90 euros and is also included in the Vienna Pass.
- 14:59As you can see, we were always short on time, that's why we tried to choose what to see, so since I
- 15:07didn't tell you at the beginning that three days had not been enough for us, it was like that.
- 15:24We ended the day in another elegant place, the Vienna Opera.
- 15:33To visit the Vienna Opera you must reserve a time on the tour in Spanish.
- 15:38The entrance price is 13 euros and is included in the Vienna Pass. If you have
- 15:43obtained the tourist pass you have to go to the website and reserve the time
- 15:46for the tour in Spanish, we did it as soon as we picked up the pass at the
- 15:51official office and immediately reserved the time, getting it for the same day.
- 16:03The visit to the opera is guided in Spanish and lasts
- 16:0740 minutes. As I told you, you must have a prior reservation and be in
- 16:11advance of that time to gain entry to the Hall since there are many people.
- 16:25The opera building was seriously damaged in one of the bombings during
- 16:30World War II, after the end of the war, in May 1945 it was announced that reconstruction work
- 16:37would begin immediately, the project contemplated the reconstruction of the hall with
- 16:43a design similar to the original but with decoration more in line with the trend of period design, although
- 16:49the traditional colors were maintained, such as red, gold and ivory.
- 17:01Just like we told you about the Budapest Opera, going to see a show
- 17:05is a very good option. Speaking of Budapest, have you seen our videos
- 17:10of it and Prague? If not, we leave them to you at the end of this one.
- 17:23As we said, we made the reservation online, for all these things
- 17:28we need to have an internet connection. For those who are just starting to follow us, we tell you that
- 17:33we use the Holafly eSIM for Europe, which have unlimited internet
- 17:38for the contracted days. We always use them on our trips and they have given us very good results.
- 17:44We have a video explaining everything related to it and a discount code for
- 17:49followers of Europe accompanied, I leave everything in the description and on the blog so as not to be repetitive.
- 18:03Day 2. Today we will dedicate almost entirely to another of
- 18:06the essential visits in Vienna, the Schonbrunn Palace.
- 18:13Schonbrunn is to Vienna what Versailles is to Paris, saving the differences, so a visit
- 18:18will imagine that it is an obligatory stop. The Palace is located about 10 kilometers from the center
- 18:25of Vienna and we can go by metro on line 4, getting off at the Schonbrunn stop. Also if you have
- 18:32obtained the tourist pass you can go on the tourist bus since it is included in the pass.
- 18:47The price of the tour called Grand Tour that includes the interiors
- 18:51of the palace is 29 euros and is included in the tourist pass.
- 19:00Schonbrunn Palace
- 19:18The opening hours are 8:30 am and on certain dates it is warned that you may
- 19:24not find tickets for that same day, so I advise you to go with the ticket previously
- 19:30obtained or make this your first visit of the day.
- 19:48Throughout the 18th century under the reign of Maria Theresa what was the Imperial summer residence
- 19:54became the center of the splendor of court life. In 1996 Schonbrunn Palace and Park
- 20:02were declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
- 20:28After finishing this tour, they have a visit to the roundabout located on Schonbrunn Hill.
- 20:34And from where you get very nice views of the palace.
- 20:49You can come here walking or take the small train from Schonbrunn to
- 20:53avoid the walk, the cost is 12 euros and it is also included in the Vienna
- 20:59Pass, we did it that way.
- 21:31Museum of Imperial Carriages. Within the Schonbrunn property you will find the museum of
- 21:38imperial carriages, the truth is that it is a visit that I really enjoyed making. We visited it
- 21:44after finishing the tour of the interior of the palace and the trip to the Glorieta.
- 21:55With splendid floats, paintings, and dresses, it offers an image of court life
- 22:00between coronations, weddings, and travels. The entrance price
- 22:09is 12 euros and is also included in the tourist pass.
- 22:32You have more activities to do in Schonbrunn such as the labyrinth, the
- 22:36orange garden, the palace children's museum, or the zoo, we show you the ones
- 22:41we did but keep in mind that you can add more things.
- 22:51To finish this second day we will visit an
- 22:55amusement park, we will go to the Prater.
- 22:57You can get to the place by metro, the Vienna metro ticket costs €2.40,
- 23:06having a 24-hour ticket for 8 euros if you are going to use it a lot.
- 23:22The Prater.
- 23:29The giant Ferris wheel in the Prater park is one of the emblems of Vienna, and if you don't want to go to the
- 23:35amusement park for all the other attractions, you may want to go on the Ferris wheel.
- 23:48Since the end of the 19th century, the giant Ferris wheel has been one of the emblems of
- 23:53Vienna. It offers beautiful views over the city and, with its privileged
- 23:57location at the entrance to the park, is the attraction of the Prater.
- 24:05The entrance price is €13.50 and is included in the Vienna Pass.
- 24:14A tour of the park is worth it in my opinion, it looks very lively and many of the
- 24:19attractions are very fun, a nice place to end this second day.
- 24:28They also have the Madame Tussaud museum here for those who love wax museums.
- 24:37Day 3. Our days were ending and as you can see there are many things to do
- 24:43in this city, so we would start with breakfast at Café Sacher.
- 25:11Located in front of the opera house, it is famous for the cake of the same name. It was
- 25:17invented in 1832 by Franz Sacher who at that time was a young pastry apprentice.
- 25:31As we told you, we went to breakfast, I leave here the
- 25:34price of the two coffees and the two cakes consumed.
- 25:42It is a traditional visit to do in Vienna.
- 25:55If we talk about typical Vienna cafes we could also visit the open Café Central.
- 26:00since 1876. If you have done it, let me know in the comments since we have not visited it.
- 26:09We are going for a walk through the city and we will walk along the Ringstrasse, we will pass by the City Hall,
- 26:25by the Parliament.
- 26:41Here we can make a very important visit, which is a visit to the Vienna Museum of Art History
- 26:46. On Ringstrasse, more precisely Maria Theresa Square, we find two immense buildings
- 26:52facing each other, the Museum of Natural History and the Museum of Art History, both of which were
- 26:59commissioned by Emperor Franz Joseph I to house the formidable
- 27:04collection of Habsburg art and make it accessible to the public. Admission to the
- 27:09Vienna Museum of Art History costs 21 euros and is included in the Vienna Pass.
- 27:18The Otto Wagner pavilion, the San Carlos de Borromeo church...
- 27:38After all these visits we will go to enjoy an open-air market.
- 27:45The total route can be extensive so you can choose to go directly from the cafe
- 27:50at a distance of a kilometer or so or if you got the tourist pass, take advantage of the
- 27:56tourist bus that I told you because it already includes it for the days that the pass covers.
- 28:04Naschmarkt is one of the best-known markets in Vienna which has been celebrated since the
- 28:1016th century. You will find food products to wear and
- 28:16many food places to sit down and enjoy right there.
- 28:45The walk through it is highly recommended and we enjoyed it very much.
- 29:17After a good tour of the market we now go to see another
- 29:21palace complex, we once again choose to travel by metro since we have
- 29:26a distance from the market of more or less 2 km. Belvedere Palace.
- 29:38United by a beautiful garden, the complex consists of two palaces,
- 29:42Belvedere, the upper one and the lower one, now converted into museums.
- 29:50Upper Belvedere and Lower Belvedere.
- 30:01In the upper Belvedere we find the Belvedere Gallery which is an important art museum,
- 30:08its collection includes important works.
- 30:11Among the authors whose works are exhibited are Gustave Klimpt and many people come here
- 30:19attracted by his work The Kiss.
- 30:25This museum not only contains paintings but also sculptures.
- 30:34In the lower Belvedere there are temporary exhibitions.
- 30:44We are only talking about the exhibitions, not to mention that enjoying the construction
- 30:49of these palaces and their garden is already a great walk in itself.
- 30:57The ticket price is €16.70 for Upper Belvedere and €14.60 for
- 31:05Lower Belvedere, with the combined ticket including both for 24 euros. Both
- 31:11tickets are included in the Vienna Pass, the visit to the gardens is free.
- 31:16We will use public transport since
- 31:20approximately two and a half kilometers separate us and we will go to a very striking construction Hundertwasserhaus.
- 31:32The Hundertwasser houses are a municipal residential complex built between 1983 and 1985.
- 31:43The architectural style combines undulating floors and facades,
- 31:47irregular openings, great color and vegetation.
- 31:56It is a nice walk, a place that, although not essential, is
- 32:00striking and if you have time it is very nice to go see.
- 32:06Other places to add to this tour of what to see in Vienna could be the stadtPark, the
- 32:13city park, or also the Danube Tower with its 250 meters high offers us a viewpoint
- 32:20towards the city, it could also be the Mozart Statue and your house as well as being able to attend a
- 32:27concert or simply get lost in passages and streets.
- 32:50Where did we have dinner? We are going to highlight among the dinners we had in Figlmüller, where they
- 32:55stand out for the schnitzels or Milanese as we say here in our country.
- 33:04There is a long line so making a reservation is a good option.
- 33:16The place is very nice, the food is very good, the price is a little high but like
- 33:21almost everything in Vienna.
- 33:30We also had dinner in front of our hotel. I leave
- 33:33the name below because I don't know the pronunciation. The price is better and the food was good too.
- 33:49Where are we staying? the Graben hotel, very close to Stephansplatz, the average hotel but a
- 33:57very good location, we did not have breakfast there so we cannot tell you what
- 34:01the breakfast is like, we paid in June 150 euros per night without breakfast.
- 34:07Both for eating and staying, Vienna is a somewhat expensive city.
- 34:20During the video I was telling you about all the tickets we made with the tourist pass. I leave the prices
- 34:25of the pass here and more information on the blog.
- 34:37In this visit to Austria we would add visiting the
- 34:40Mauthausen Concentration Camp which we will see in the next video and we will talk about how to visit.
- 34:47If you are adding places in this beautiful country, I recommend watching our visit to Innsbruck, I
- 34:53leave the video in the description. Travel companions, if you liked the video, but
- 34:59mainly if it has been helpful to you, we ask you to help us by sharing this
- 35:04video, giving it a like and subscribing if you haven't already, until our next video!
