  12. 1:07In the case of MotoGP
  13. 1:09and the world of motorcycling, there is a rider who comes close to being called the greatest,
  14. 1:13his name: Valentino Rossi.
  15. 1:19This is the story of Valentino Rossi,
  16. 1:21told by those who know him best, and the man himself.
  17. 1:27This story takes us from the race track
  18. 1:29back to the heart of his world in Tavullia, to get the insight on what makes this man worthy
  19. 1:34of the title The Greatest Of All Time.
  20. 1:42Born and raised in the quiet unassuming town of Tavullia, up in the hills above the Adriatic coast of Italy,
  21. 1:48he arrived in this world the son of a fantastic motorsports talent
  22. 1:51Graziano Rossi.
  23. 1:53I always played with Graziano, with my father, with the motorcycle, because he know that way.
  24. 2:01I think it is hard for a child who, who plays
  25. 2:06not to become passionate with such a magical game like bikes.
  26. 2:18Since he was a little child we knew that he was talented.
  27. 2:23I was one of the first in Tavullia saying “this guy will make his way”
  28. 2:35I start to have the idea to become a real rider when we arrived at the world championship in ’96.
  29. 2:50Inspired by his father, the young Rossi began his moto grand prix career in 1996 after experiencing
  30. 2:56success in the Italian Championship.
  31. 3:04Never short of confidence, his taste for victory was matched only by his unwavering quest to have fun.
  32. 3:10He has that charismatic, sort of Peter Pan, appeal.
  33. 3:15A Champion that is out of any imagination
  34. 3:19He loves motorcycling, he loves to ride the bike, and I think that he's able to,
  35. 3:25he's able to transmit that true passion and desire for what he does, and hes able then to communicate
  36. 3:33that to other people and I think that’s what people really appreciate.
  37. 3:51What has followed in over 20 years of racing at the highest level of the sport has combined
  38. 3:56exceptional talent with the mastery of entertainment.
  39. 3:59The post that I enjoyed the most was in ’99 in Jerez when I go to the toilet with the 250 (cc),
  40. 4:05but also Mugello 2002 when the police stop me and make me the laser, the picture,
  41. 4:13for the..”la multa” (the fine).
  42. 4:20Whether or not you know him for his racing prowess or crazed celebrations, the man know
  43. 4:25as The Doctor has become an institution within motorcycling, and the legend of Valentino Rossi
  44. 4:31now transcends the world of sport.
  45. 4:38Who is Valentino Rossi? A friend,
  46. 4:41fast as hell on a motorcycle and I think genuinely, just a really good guy.
  47. 4:47What I always say to people who don’t know Vale personally “ you see what he is doing as a rider.
  48. 4:58But I can promise you that the man is even better”.
  49. 5:31You see everything, honestly from his ritual to getting on the bike, to just how he is
  50. 5:38on camera, off camera, he doesn’t have two acts.
  51. 5:43What you see on TV, that is, that is Valentino.
  52. 5:50We, I at least, always see him as a gift. When he wins, when he loses, he is always a gift.
  53. 6:08He is a personality, one of the most important in the world,
  54. 6:10but he is one of the closest to people no? Compared to all the others.
  55. 6:16He’s got balls!
  56. 6:23No matter what machinery is introduced to Valentino, his desire to ring its neck and
  57. 6:30push its ability to conform to his lust for speed will always shine through.
  58. 6:35From his infamous and highly competitive Formula One test,
  59. 6:38to the multiple wins he has chalked up at Monza Rally,
  60. 6:41Rossi has proved he is master of all things fast.
  61. 6:48In fact, stepping into a Nascar stock car for the first time,
  62. 6:51he was totally at ease with the ferocious beast
  63. 6:54clocking in laps that were literally within tenths of Nascar Champion Kyle Busch himself.
  64. 7:01Caged or not, four wheel or two,
  65. 7:04Vale only knows one pace and that’s flat out.
  66. 7:09The highest number of wins in the modern MotoGP era,
  67. 7:12and he has the most podium appearances in the history of the sport.
  68. 7:16Kenny Junior said to me, he goes “isn’t weird when you get behind Valentino he just
  69. 7:20always seems to be pulling meters on you. Like you can’t make up five meters and then
  70. 7:26him pull six. He’s just constantly pulling way from you”.
  71. 7:30It was true, he was pretty unbeatable.
  72. 7:33I don’t know how many years he’s been in the sport, maybe this is his 20th year perhaps…
  73. 7:37that’s amazing.
  74. 7:39To still have that drive, and that push, to be riding as good as he is…very impressive.
  75. 7:50For all his worldwide acclaim, from fans and fellow sporting icons alike,
  76. 7:55Valentino remains fiercely loyal to the inner circle of trusted friends who have supported him throughout his journey.
  77. 8:02Retreating back to Tavullia after each race weekend,
  78. 8:05the bond he has with his home town and the people he grew up with is key to understanding the man and his legend.
  79. 8:15To know Valentino, you need to listen to his inner circle.
  80. 8:20Valentino Rossi is the classic hard guy. He always pushes the limit in everything he does.
  81. 8:31I really do think he is an extra-terrestrial, really. I mean something out of the ordinary world.
  82. 8:40Well you imagine if you put Tiger Woods together with Michael Jordan, together with Roger Federer
  83. 8:48and put that combination on a motorcycle.
  84. 8:51Over the course of the next four episodes, we will take you right into the heart of Valentino’s world
  85. 8:56and hear plenty from Vale himself. But where better to celebrate the Rossi legend
  86. 9:01then in Mugello, home of some of his greatest moments as a MotoGP rider,
  87. 9:06which is where we will pick up the story next time.
