  1. 0:00So, a lot of my students, they want to
  2. 0:01hit the golf ball longer, but they don't
  3. 0:03have the ability to swing longer because
  4. 0:04of injuries and what have you. So, I
  5. 0:06show them this. I give them this simple
  6. 0:08drill.
  7. 0:14And we visited that what, 170 yards with
  8. 0:17probably what you saw was a very, very
  9. 0:19tiny looking golf swing. And I said to
  10. 0:21them, there's two things that you need
  11. 0:23to be pretty good at if you want to hit
  12. 0:26the ball longer with what you have. The
  13. 0:28first thing is you need to know the
  14. 0:30destination you're going to. Right, this
  15. 0:32is really, really important to know the
  16. 0:33destination. The more you can start with
  17. 0:36the end in mind, know where you're
  18. 0:37supposed to finish, your body can
  19. 0:39organize itself very naturally and very
  20. 0:40powerfully around that. The second thing
  21. 0:44you're going to need to know is this,
  22. 0:44you need to notice how to in a sense
  23. 0:47accelerate the club at the right time.
  24. 0:50And the feeling that you need to achieve
  25. 0:52that. If you can really feel this club
  26. 0:54accelerate, or I I like to call
  27. 0:55catapulting at the right time, you can
  28. 0:58start to create this effortless looking
  29. 1:00golf and that actually hits it a little
  30. 1:02bit further than you're doing right now.
  31. 1:03Without having a longer swing. So,
  32. 1:06here's the drill. Now, this is a drill
  33. 1:08that
  34. 1:09you can I would recommend you do over
  35. 1:12and over and over again. It is not a by
  36. 1:15the way, before we start, it's not a
  37. 1:16magic fix. You don't do the drill once
  38. 1:18and you're suddenly going to be
  39. 1:19brilliant. This is a drill that is
  40. 1:22um if you do it consistently, it's
  41. 1:23tricky to start with. It can feel a bit
  42. 1:25strange. It can be tricky to get handle
  43. 1:27of, but once you get it and you repeat
  44. 1:30it over and over again, your body starts
  45. 1:32to kind of really get it and it's
  46. 1:34something you can transfer to the golf
  47. 1:36course with not just your irons, but
  48. 1:38your driver, too. So, here's how you set
  49. 1:40it up. Stage one is simply this. I get
  50. 1:43myself set up here, ball position, you
  51. 1:45know, maybe just a little bit head of
  52. 1:46center. I've got seven iron like I said,
  53. 1:47but we can apply this to driver and and
  54. 1:49your fairway woods. Put a little bit of
  55. 1:51weight, just favor that lead side just a
  56. 1:53little bit here. And from this position,
  57. 1:56and this is a drill I'd love to say that
  58. 1:57came up with myself, but I didn't. I It
  59. 1:59was a friend of mine, Andreas Kelley,
  60. 2:00that gave me this. It's called the
  61. 2:01longest putt. It's just brilliant.
  62. 2:03So, what we're going to do here is this.
  63. 2:04Stage one of this process is this. I
  64. 2:06want you to know where your destination
  65. 2:08is. We play golf with angled golf clubs.
  66. 2:11So, we need to make sure that when we're
  67. 2:12swinging through to about halfway, we
  68. 2:14are swinging on an angle. So, what I'm
  69. 2:16going to do here is this. You'll notice
  70. 2:19as I swing through here,
  71. 2:20and I'll weight on my front foot here,
  72. 2:22my trail shoulder is down at an angle.
  73. 2:24My eyes are at an angle, my ears are at
  74. 2:26an angle, and I'm finishing just like
  75. 2:28this. The other thing you'll notice here
  76. 2:30is you'll notice my lead arm here is
  77. 2:32higher than my trail arm. This is
  78. 2:34proving that I swung my body on an
  79. 2:37angle, on a circle, like this. Okay?
  80. 2:40Very important. So, knowing that you've
  81. 2:42got a destination to go to is just
  82. 2:44brilliant because your body goes,
  83. 2:46"Ah, that's what I'm going to try to
  84. 2:47achieve." You're less likely to make
  85. 2:50some of the faults I see on my uh my
  86. 2:52swing coach app where you see a lot of
  87. 2:54players that are lunging at the golf
  88. 2:56ball like this, where the shoulder stays
  89. 2:57too high, the eyes are kind of, in a
  90. 2:59sense, very level on the way through
  91. 3:01here. This leads to tops, poor strikes,
  92. 3:04loads of um loss of distance. Whereas,
  93. 3:07this really helps you to improve the
  94. 3:09quality of your strike, and naturally
  95. 3:11increase your distance.
  96. 3:13So, that's the first thing. Set up,
  97. 3:16knowing that you've got a destination.
  98. 3:17Just No backswing start. Just do some
  99. 3:20rehearsals, and just practice this
  100. 3:22sensation for for when you watch
  101. 3:25probably find this will feel strange to
  102. 3:27you because for most people, that like I
  103. 3:28said, this trail shoulder stays way too
  104. 3:30high. See this a lot in the app.
  105. 3:33Everyone lunging forward here. What I
  106. 3:35love about this is this. You're going to
  107. 3:37now feel this right shoulder turning
  108. 3:39towards the target, but from a very low
  109. 3:41position
  110. 3:43here versus most people when they swing
  111. 3:45long to start with,
  112. 3:47they're swinging from a high position.
  113. 3:48This is the over the top. So, from it,
  114. 3:49swinging from a low position. So, she's
  115. 3:51on an arc here. So, spend a bit of time
  116. 3:54just feeling that motion there. The
  117. 3:57shoulders all turning, eyes, ears all on
  118. 4:01an arc
  119. 4:02through impact, okay?
  120. 4:04That's it. Nothing more complicated than
  121. 4:05that. You're starting to kind of in a
  122. 4:07sense get that sensation. Like I said,
  123. 4:09if you do have my app, look at the app
  124. 4:11from face on. It will give you that
  125. 4:13feedback. It will tell you whether
  126. 4:14you're doing this correctly or not.
  127. 4:15The second thing
  128. 4:17now is this. And this is the thing that
  129. 4:18I would say doesn't exist in most
  130. 4:20amateur golfers. It exists in most
  131. 4:21decent players, but amateurs not.
  132. 4:23Is we've got to remember that we are
  133. 4:25Golf is very much a throwing action,
  134. 4:27right? We want to be catapulting this
  135. 4:29golf club. So, the cool thing about this
  136. 4:31drill is is it's a longest putt. We're
  137. 4:33only going to swing
  138. 4:35to around about here. Now, the reality
  139. 4:37is is everybody, including me, always
  140. 4:39swings back a little bit longer. And
  141. 4:40that's absolutely fine. But, the intent
  142. 4:42is to swing only to a short distance.
  143. 4:44Now, from here, what I want you to do,
  144. 4:47the club is behind you. I want you to
  145. 4:48imagine from here
  146. 4:50that club
  147. 4:52is going to catapult around the corner
  148. 4:55to that place.
  149. 4:58Can you hear that noise?
  150. 4:59I'm catapulting, look,
  151. 5:01to that place we've just gone to.
  152. 5:04There.
  153. 5:06There. Catapult, okay? You can use If
  154. 5:10you struggle to do this,
  155. 5:12you can use
  156. 5:14sound. Grab an alignment stick or just
  157. 5:16turn your club upside down. Here.
  158. 5:23Hear that noise? When people do this for
  159. 5:26the first time, they can't create that
  160. 5:27noise. It looks more like this.
  161. 5:30So, you have to learn
  162. 5:33to feel
  163. 5:35the catapult through impact, okay? These
  164. 5:38two things together
  165. 5:40will really help you sense, first of
  166. 5:42all, how your body is working
  167. 5:45beautifully and turning beautifully to
  168. 5:47catapult that club around. Now, let me
  169. 5:49show you now
  170. 5:50hitting a golf ball.
  171. 5:52So, I get myself set up here.
  172. 5:55We start slowly and we try and initially
  173. 5:57do some rehearsals, see if you can hit
  174. 5:59balls just to start with. Can you
  175. 6:01actually hit a golf ball
  176. 6:03and check your position here? So, we're
  177. 6:04going to swing, imagine we're going to
  178. 6:05finish, we know the destination here.
  179. 6:09And we do this.
  180. 6:10And we look here and we go, "Right,
  181. 6:12where am I finished?"
  182. 6:13And I go, "Yep, angle perfect, pretty
  183. 6:16good. I felt like my weight maybe have
  184. 6:19just drifted back a little bit there. I
  185. 6:20didn't quite keep it forward." These are
  186. 6:23the feelings, right? So, what you do is
  187. 6:25is you check then before you start
  188. 6:27accelerating. But once you've done a few
  189. 6:29of them and you start to find that
  190. 6:30you're swing you're striking it quite
  191. 6:31nicely and you feel like you're
  192. 6:35finishing at this angle here,
  193. 6:37then you can gradually
  194. 6:39same thing, not don't extend the length
  195. 6:40at all,
  196. 6:41see if you can start to catapult that
  197. 6:44club
  198. 6:45faster on the arc
  199. 6:48here to finish again in that place. Now,
  200. 6:51as I'm doing this, I personally feel,
  201. 6:53but these are my feelings from this
  202. 6:55drill, I feel my right shoulder
  203. 6:58is back here, nice and low, and it's
  204. 7:00accelerating that club
  205. 7:03around the corner like this in a very
  206. 7:05smooth [snorts]
  207. 7:07and effortless
  208. 7:09way. And you can see here, I have
  209. 7:10probably gone a little bit longer there,
  210. 7:12but look at how far that's gone.
  211. 7:14With a really, really small swing.
  212. 7:17So, I love this drill because
  213. 7:19it's training one of the vital parts
  214. 7:22that you need to feel.
  215. 7:24From here
  216. 7:26to here. Because you're only here, your
  217. 7:28right shoulder here, trail shoulder is
  218. 7:29already low.
  219. 7:31So, you're now training it to stay low,
  220. 7:34work here. I love that because most
  221. 7:36players, like I say, poor players are
  222. 7:38coming down from a very high right
  223. 7:40shoulder, okay? This is where a lot of
  224. 7:42problems come from. Now you know that
  225. 7:44feeling, you can then start to keep
  226. 7:45extending it so it goes to a high place
  227. 7:47naturally as far as you physically can.
  228. 7:50Now you know where it needs to get to
  229. 7:52here for it to now
  230. 7:55fire
  231. 7:56through the impact area. So it trains
  232. 7:58some great feelings, great starting
  233. 8:01points that you can use to then extend
  234. 8:03into that full swing. So
  235. 8:05you may be a short swinger, but this you
  236. 8:08can see here, you can start to generate
  237. 8:10some effortless power if you do this
  238. 8:12correctly and get your body supporting
  239. 8:14this motion. So I hope you enjoyed this
  240. 8:15video. If you did, give it a thumbs up,
