- 0:00Now, in the last hour, the US military
- 0:02has said that it's launched a series of
- 0:04strikes against Iran in response to what
- 0:06it said were three Iranian attacks on
- 0:09commercial vessels in the straight of
- 0:11Hormuz. Let's go straight to Washington
- 0:13and to our correspondent, Iony Wells.
- 0:15What more do we know, Iony?
- 0:19>> Well, this is another fracture fracture
- 0:21in this fragile ceasefire between the US
- 0:24and Iran. And at the end of June, both
- 0:26sides had agreed to stand down after tit
- 0:28fortat strikes that has now fallen apart
- 0:31in the last 24 hours. The US says it's
- 0:33launched powerful strikes on Iran in
- 0:36response to attacks on three commercial
- 0:38ve v vessels in the straight of Hormuz.
- 0:40Uh the US has also revoked licenses that
- 0:43would have allowed the sale of Iranian
- 0:45oil. The US has accused Iran of
- 0:47violating this ceasefire. Uh Iran has
- 0:50also accused the US of breaking the
- 0:52memorandum on ending the war. Now this
- 0:55comes as Iran has been holding state
- 0:58funeral processions for its uh supreme
- 1:01leader who was killed during the war and
- 1:03as Donald Trump is at the NATO summit
- 1:06where he has been repeating his
- 1:07criticism of allies for not joining the
- 1:09US in the war with uh Iran. Now, just
- 1:13yesterday, Donald Trump said that the US
- 1:15and Iran would make a deal, or in his
- 1:17words, the US would finish the job.
- 1:20What's not clear at this moment in time,
- 1:22as these strikes have just begun, is
- 1:24whether or not this is the US deciding
- 1:26that diplomacy has now run its course,
- 1:29or whether both sides might pull back
- 1:31from the brink, as they did just nine
- 1:33days ago. Ioni, thank you.
