0:02it's the story of how God was seeking a
0:06bride for his son each book is different
0:09from every other book I'm trying to give
0:11you the keys for you to unlock it for
0:15[Music]
0:27yourself when God finished creating our
0:30world he said that's very good and that
0:33included people but who would say it's a
0:35very good world now very few would claim
0:38that something's out of order now what
0:42went wrong and when did it go wrong and
0:46Genesis 3 gives us an answer to that
0:49question all three relationships between
0:52human beings and God between human
0:53beings and nature between human beings
0:56and each other they've all gone wrong
0:58sadly wrong which one went wrong first
1:02it seems almost as if our world is
1:04cursed rather than blessed we become
1:07alienated let's look at three facts of
1:10our existence fact number one birth is
1:14painful fact number two life is
1:17hard fact number three Death is
1:21certain why why is birth painful why is
1:26life hard why is death certain well
1:28again Genesis 3 gives gives us the
1:30answer philosophy gives us many
1:33different answers some philosophers say
1:35there must be a bad God as well as well
1:37as a good one more frequently they say
1:40that the good God made a bad job of it
1:43and thus they try and find some
1:45explanation for the origin of evil
1:48Genesis 3 gives us four vital insights
1:50into this problem number one evil wasn't
1:54always in the
1:55world number two it didn't start with
1:59human
2:00beings number three it isn't something
2:05physical something moral some
2:08philosophers have said that it's the
2:11material part of the universe that is
2:13the source of evil or in personal terms
2:16it's your body that is the source of
2:19Temptation that is not the Bible answer
2:22the fourth Insight is that evil doesn't
2:25exist there are only evil
2:28people evil is not a thing that exists
2:32on its own it's an adjective rather than
2:35a noun it is persons who become evil
2:39evil as such doesn't
2:41exist now we're dealing in Genesis 3
2:44with a real event in real history and
2:47real geography we're given the place and
2:49the time of it at the dawn of human
2:52history a gigantic moral catastrophe
2:56took place this is not Fable or myth but
2:59we do have here a reptile more a lizard
3:03than a snake because it had legs and
3:06most of the Sunday School pictures I've
3:08seen were totally wrong they just had a
3:10snake holding an apple in its mouth or
3:12something this was a lizard but a
3:14talking lizard can we credit that well
3:18there are three
3:19possibilities one is that it was the
3:21Devil in Disguise and he's a Master of
3:24Disguise another is that God enabled an
3:27animal to talk another is that
3:30the animal was possessed by an evil
3:33spirit now when Jesus sent the 2,000
3:36pigs down the gine
3:39cliff demons had entered the
3:42pigs and it's perfectly possible for
3:44Satan to take over an animal and
3:47therefore to disguise himself as one of
3:50God's Own creatures which would tend to
3:52fool Adam and Eve because Satan was
3:55putting himself below them as it
3:57were and uh he was the most subtle
4:00creature he was in fact a fallen angel
4:04there are angels evolutionists seem to
4:07have problems with angels as to where
4:09they came from but angels are just as
4:12real more real than human beings they're
4:15more intelligent than we are they're
4:16stronger than we are and I've already
4:19explained the trees significant that
4:22Satan went for
4:24Eve because women are generally speaking
4:27more trusting than men men are terribly
4:30distrustful creatures but women are more
4:32trusting and therefore more easily
4:34misled and confused but more important
4:38Satan was subverting God's order and
4:42treating Eve as if she was the head of
4:44the
4:45house I am ashamed however of my gender
4:48because Adam actually was standing by
4:51her side and never opened his mouth
4:54once and we need to say that very
4:57strongly so often on TV and a couple are
5:00interviewed after some personal tragedy
5:02the husband just sits there with his
5:04mouth shut and makes his wife to all the
5:06Talking he should be protecting her and
5:09Adam should have been arguing with Satan
5:11because Eve had not heard God's
5:14words Adam heard them and he should have
5:18told Satan he was misquoting the word of
5:20God there are three misquotations of the
5:22word of God you can make one is to add
5:25something to them to the word of God
5:27another is to take something away and
5:29the thir is to change what's there and
5:31in fact if you read carefully Satan did
5:33all three to God's
5:36commandment Satan knows his Bible very
5:39well but he can misquote it as well and
5:42he commits all three errors which I'm
5:46afraid are not unknown among preachers
5:48either to add to God's word or to take
5:51away from it or to change it in any way
5:53is to tamper with something that is
5:57changeless well we're not ignorant
5:59ignorant of Satan's devices and we know
6:02how he got hold of Eve and it's how
6:04he'll get hold of us he does it in three
6:06steps he gets you to doubt with the
6:10mind to Desire with the heart and then
6:13to disobey with the will that is always
6:16his strategy gets you to think about
6:18something wrong first usually by
6:21misinterpreting God's word and then he
6:24gets you to want it in your heart to
6:26desire it and after he's got your mind
6:28thinking about it your heart wanting it
6:30you are an accident waiting to happen
6:33and when the circumstances are right you
6:35will disobey with your will that's how
6:37he got a hold of Eve and we should have
6:39learned from this now we see a very
6:43different side to God's character that
6:45is never come out yet it's the side of
6:47God's character that judges sin it's the
6:51holy side of his character that hasn't
6:54been touched on in Genesis 1 and 2 but
6:58now it comes out clear
7:00God hates sin and he must deal with it
7:05if he's really a good God then he cannot
7:08let people get away with Badness that's
7:11the message of Genesis 3 did you notice
7:13in the paraphrase I read to you that his
7:15punishments were in
7:18poetry I hope you've got a Bible that
7:20tells you when God's word is poetry and
7:22when it's Pros when it's Pros it looks
7:24like a newspaper column written from
7:27side to side like that but when it's uh
7:31poetry you find lots of space and
7:34shorter lines when God speaks in Pros he
7:38is communicating his thoughts from his
7:41mind to your mind but when he uh is
7:44poetic he is communicating his feelings
7:48from his heart to yours one verse in
7:51Genesis 1 is in poetry and one verse in
7:53Genesis 2 is in poetry and both are
7:56about sex isn't that
7:58amazing the first two love
8:00songs God becomes poetic when he
8:04considers male and female in Genesis 1
8:06and Adam becomes poetic when he catches
8:09sight of this beautiful naked girl when
8:11he wakes up from the first surgery under
8:15anesthetic and uh do you know what Adam
8:18actually said I'll translate the Hebrew
8:20properly he said
8:22wow this is it he said this is it he
8:26wasn't so Keen a few weeks later when he
8:29said it was that woman you gave
8:31me how we
8:33change but those two little poems in one
8:36and two are God's delight and man's
8:38Delight in
8:40sexuality but in Genesis 3 the poems
8:44reveal quite another emotion in God
8:47anger frustration
8:50irritation or in theological terms the
8:53wroth of God and God feels so deeply
8:57that Eden has been ruined it's all
9:01spoiled and God knew what it would lead
9:03to as well from chapters 4 to 11 we see
9:07the results of chapter
9:093 chapter 3 is usually referred to as
9:13the
9:14fall when man fell from that beautiful
9:17state just imagine it hadn't happened
9:21just imagine that Adam hadn't tried to
9:23blame Eve or even God it was that woman
9:28you gave me is trying to pass the buck
9:32supposing Adam had responded to God's
9:34question I've done wrong and I confess
9:37it and God had forgiven it on the spot
9:41history might have been terribly
9:43different see when God asked Adam
9:45questions where are you God knew where
9:48Adam was perfectly well this is a
9:52question at the beginning of a
9:54trial do you plead innocent or guilty
9:56that's what God is really asking and Eve
9:58where have you got to what have you been
10:00up to He is wanting
10:03confession because when God gets
10:05confession he
10:07forgives that's what he was after but
10:10poor old Adam hiding in the bushes said
10:12I didn't have any Sunday clothes it's
10:15pathetic and have you ever seen the
10:17shape of a fig
10:19Leaf I'll draw it for
10:22you that's the shape of a fig Leaf can
10:25you imagine trying to hide Yourself by
10:27sewing those together
10:30I mean it was
10:31pathetic
10:33tragic but that
10:35fall deserved punishment and it got it
10:39and Adam was punished in relation to his
10:41work and Eve in relation to the family
10:44that's very
10:46significant and the reptile became a
10:49snake I once went into a garage full of
10:52huge snakes it was a man's hobby I can't
10:54understand that hobby but I went in and
10:56he picked up a gigantic B constrictor or
10:59something and he said I'll show you
11:01something and he lifted the scales of
11:03the body up about 2third the way back
11:05and he lifted the scales and underneath
11:07the scales was the tiniest leg he said
11:10did you know every snake has legs
11:12they're not long enough to touch the
11:14ground so it has to Slither on his belly
11:16I said I never knew that but guess what
11:18I was thinking about when he said
11:20it so God shut them off from
11:24life and now in chapters 4 to 11 the
11:27effects are like Stone thrown into a
11:30pond and the ripples just go on
11:32spreading out covering an increasing
11:35part of time and space they go down
11:37through the generations and out through
11:41to Nations moral pollution contaminates
11:45all culture and progress from now
11:47on all Arts and Sciences from now on all
11:52social and political life from now on
11:55now 4 to 11 in Genesis cover many many
11:58centuries but God picks out those things
12:02that most affected him and his purpose
12:06see God has feelings that comes out very
12:09strongly now and he can be happy and he
12:12can be sad he can be angry he can be
12:14grieved we're going to study his
12:17emotions now his emotional reaction to
12:20what's happening down there on Earth and
12:23the three events which mattered most to
12:25him over the next many centuries were
12:30Cain and the mass weapons of Destruction
12:33that came from Cain's
12:36line Second Noah and his
12:40ark and third Nimrod and his
12:44Tower and these three events cover many
12:48many centuries of human history but
12:50these were the three things most
12:53significant to God and what he was going
12:56to do with our fallen human race let's
12:59take Cain first somebody has pointed out
13:03that the sin of the first man caused the
13:05second man to kill the third
13:08man this is Adam's own family and his
13:13eldest son kills the middle
13:15one and for the same reason as they
13:18killed Jesus centuries later
13:21Envy Envy was responsible for the first
13:24murder in history and the worst murder
13:26in history it's a horrible thing and yet
13:28if we're h honest we've all experienced
13:31it in some way or
13:33another Envy of someone else Cain and
13:37Abel Cain means gotten because Eve said
13:40I gotten him from the Lord so he was
13:42called gotten Abel was called breath or
13:46vapor was he an asmatic or was he a a
13:49sort of weak kind of person could be
13:53third child God Favored the younger
13:56child of the two Cain and Abel
13:59God often favored the younger as we're
14:01going to see in the next talk because he
14:03didn't want anybody ever to think they
14:05had a natural right to his gifts and
14:09inheritance so God usually chose a
14:11younger person but that wasn't why he
14:14chose to accept Abel's sacrifice and not
14:17Cain's the reason why was that Abel had
14:19learned from his parents that the only
14:22sacrifice worthy of God and worthy of
14:26Sinners to offer is a blood SA sacrifice
14:30the result of a life taken in death you
14:33see when God had covered the sin and
14:35shame of his parents Abel knew that God
14:38had killed animals to do so a naughty
14:41streak in me likes pointing out that it
14:43was God who made the first fur coat but
14:46it was God who actually killed some
14:48animals and clothed Adam and
14:51Eve blood was shed so that their shame
14:55could be covered that's a principle that
14:57begins right there and and goes all the
14:59way through to
15:01Calvary Abel had learned that so when
15:05Abel came to worship God he brought an
15:07animal
15:09sacrifice Cain simply brought fruit
15:13vegetables held a little Harvest
15:16Festival and it says God had respect to
15:19Abel and his
15:20sacrifice which made Cain mad and God
15:24warned Cain now be very careful you're
15:28in a very precarious position sin is
15:30crouching at your door and he just
15:33waiting to pounce in and get you but
15:35Cain didn't listen and you know the rest
15:37of the story he deceived his brother led
15:40him away from the home on a false
15:43pretext then murdered him buried him and
15:47then totally disowned him and said he
15:50had nothing to do with
15:52it how one sin leads to
15:55another there's a pattern emerging here
15:58and that is that bad people hate good
16:01people and that the
16:04ungodly are envious of The
16:07Godly and this is going to cause a
16:09division that goes all the way through
16:12the rest of human history it's a strange
16:14fact it was Plato who said If ever a
16:18perfectly good man lives on Earth he
16:20will be
16:22crucified that was said centuries before
16:24Jesus came we live in a fallen world
16:28where good goodness is
16:31hated where people say well no one's
16:33perfect and excuse the evil in
16:36themselves and anyone who presents a
16:39challenge to their con conscience is
16:42hated and Jesus told us the world hated
16:45me it's going to hate you if you live
16:47right and that is a fact that hatred of
16:51the good on the part of the evil is a
16:54fact of human
16:56history we could say that Abel was the
16:58first martyr for righteousness
17:01sake in fact that's not just me saying
17:04Jesus said it he said the blood of the
17:06righteous has been spilled from
17:09Abel right through
17:12Zechariah and of course signifying that
17:15he would follow now Cain produced an
17:18ungodly line of people and it's very
17:21interesting what is attached to that
17:23line music comes out of that line
17:27metalogy comes out of that line and the
17:30first use of forging metal was to make
17:34weapons of mass
17:36destruction which enabled unlimited
17:39revenge and terrorism to begin and the
17:43first use of weapons for was for
17:45terrorist activities from C's line
17:49urbanization came from C's line it was
17:52C's line that began to build the cities
17:54now what does a city do it concentrates
17:56sinners in one place and therefore it
18:00concentrates sin in one place and cities
18:04become more sinful than the
18:06countryside because of this
18:09concentration so you can see that all
18:11the things we call human progress are
18:14tainted by
18:16Cain The Mark of Cain is on
18:19them and uh that's the biblical
18:22interpretation of civilization that
18:25however wonderful are discoveries
18:28however much progress we make it's
18:31always got that taint of killing in
18:34it the tragedy is that I suppose almost
18:38every single invention of men has been
18:41used for
18:42killing and some of them have been used
18:44to kill before they've been used for
18:47healthy
18:49purposes I think of the splitting of the
18:51atom as just one
18:54example polygamy came through C's
18:57line up until that point one man and one
19:01woman were married for life but through
19:04Cain's line many wives came in and we
19:07know that even
19:09Abraham and Jacob and David were
19:14polygamus it all goes back to
19:18Cain but at the same time there was a
19:21third brother a third son of Adam and
19:23Eve
19:24Seth and with him you see another line a
19:29Godly line and it says that from the
19:32line of
19:33Seth men began to call on the name of
19:36the God
19:37always so you see there are two lines
19:40developing here and they run right
19:43through human history and will right to
19:45the end until the day comes when those
19:47two lines are separated forever but we
19:50live in a world in which there's a line
19:52of Cain and a line of
19:54Seth and you choose which line you
19:57belong to and which kind of life you
20:01live that was the first major
20:05event and God said he was Abel's
20:11keeper Cain said am I My Brother's
20:13Keeper and God said I am and his blood
20:17is crying out to
20:19me every murder involves
20:23God he is concerned it's his family
20:28interesting
20:30now the next major event is Noah's Ark
20:32the story is so well known not only from
20:35inside the Bible but there are many many
20:38folklore Tales of a universal flood to
20:40be found in many different cultures
20:43there's a racial memory somewhere of
20:46this event which has popped up in all
20:48kinds of places but here we have the
20:51origin of those
20:53Tales it's been questioned whether it is
20:55real and I think it is an open question
20:58as to whether the flood was right around
21:01the globe or covering the then known
21:04world that whole Middle Eastern Basin
21:07later called Mesopotamia where the huge
21:10plane through which the tigis and the
21:12Euphrates flow is really the scene of
21:15all these early stories many years ago
21:19an Englishman called Leonard wooly whom
21:21you see standing up here telegraphed the
21:25times in London we have found the flood
21:29they had found about 18 ft of
21:31silt under the clay and sand of the
21:35Mesopotamian Basin and he claimed they
21:38had found the flood well they had found
21:40a flood and certainly there have been
21:42more than one such devastating flood
21:45over that whole area and they found more
21:48remains since whether they found the
21:50flood I think it's an open question
21:53still and I don't know if you've seen
21:55recent TV programs about the search for
21:57Noah's AR itself and indeed this very
22:01year there is a final Expedition with
22:04Russian approval to go and study what
22:08looks like the remains of a large
22:10boat well whether it is or not remains
22:13to be seen the interest in the Bible is
22:15not so much in the material side of this
22:18story as in the moral side that is the
22:20crucial thing why did it
22:24happen the answer is appalling it's
22:27because God regret regretted that he
22:30made human
22:33beings I think that's the saddest verse
22:37in the
22:38Bible I've heard parents say about
22:41children we wish never had them that's
22:44an awful thing and God says why did I
22:48put human beings on that Earth it was a
22:50beautiful place why did I go and ruin it
22:54by making
22:56men and this Comm communicates his
22:59feelings very much his heart and he
23:03resolved to have done with
23:05us to wash them out of his
23:08hair it's uh what had happen to cause
23:12such a crisis in God's
23:14emotions well we've only part of the
23:17story in the Book of Genesis we've got
23:19more of it in a book written between the
23:22Old and New Testament in what's known as
23:24the Apocrypha The Book of
23:25Enoch and since that book is quoted in
23:29the New Testament as Truth by Jude and
23:32Peter then we can take it that that book
23:34is accurate though it's not part of the
23:36word of God but it is a record of
23:39history and that book actually tells us
23:42that between two and 300
23:45angels in the area of Mount Hermon sent
23:49to look after God's
23:52people actually fell in love with
23:55women had sex with them seduced them and
23:59impregnated them so that they produced a
24:02horrible
24:03hybrid somewhere between men and angels
24:07not in God's order now that is mentioned
24:10in Genesis 6 the sons of God saw the
24:12daughters of men that they were
24:14fair and it called the hybrid Offspring
24:19Nephilim sometimes translated Giants in
24:21English versions We don't know what it
24:23means it's just a a new fangled term for
24:26a new fangled sort of creature strange
24:29that Hollywood is now catching up with
24:31this and producing films like Rosemary's
24:33Baby which imagines Satan impregnating a
24:36girl it's a kind of horrible
24:38travesty of the Virgin birth where the
24:42Holy Spirit came on
24:44Mary well it's a strange and weird story
24:48but it's interesting that that horrible
24:50intercourse between angels and men and
24:53incidentally uh intercourse between
24:55humans and animals is just as uh much an
24:59Abomination to God as disgusting to him
25:01it's not what he intended but it's
25:05interesting that that horrible
25:07combination was the beginning of
25:10occultism because those angels taught
25:13those women Witchcraft and we can trace
25:18occultism back to this horrible event
25:21and it says that the immediate effect of
25:24this uh perverted sex was that violence
25:28fill the whole
25:30earth because the one thing leads to the
25:32other it's treating people as objects
25:34not as persons and violence it says fill
25:37the Earth and finally it reached a stage
25:39where it says God saw that every
25:42imagination of man's heart was only evil
25:46continually what a statement every only
25:50continually couldn't be more strongly
25:52expressed and these were
25:55people made in God's image
25:59can you imagine how he felt and he said
26:03that's it that's
26:05enough but being God he's very
26:08patient and uh he gave them
26:12warning full warning he got hold of that
26:16man called Enoch who was the first
26:18prophet ever to give a message from God
26:20to the human race and the message was
26:23God is coming to
26:25judge and he's going to deal with all
26:27ungodliness
26:29and Enoch at the age of 65 had a child a
26:33boy and God gave him the name for the
26:35boy and the boy was to be called when he
26:38dies it will
26:40happen what an extraordinary name for a
26:42boy can you imagine the teacher at
26:44school what's your name little boy when
26:46he dies it'll
26:47happen and have you done your homework
26:49when he dies it'll happen only of course
26:52when he dies it will happen was not in
26:53English it was in the Semitic language
26:55do you know what it is in the Semitic m
26:59Methuselah
27:01Methuselah and Enoch knew that when his
27:04son died God would judge the
27:07world and that's why mathusa lived
27:10longer than anybody else because God is
27:13very patient is that amazing 969 years
27:18later methusa died and the day he died
27:21it began to
27:23rain heavy rain
27:26floods and Enoch 's great grandson
27:29mathusa grandson Was A Boy Called
27:32Noah and he and his three sons had spent
27:3512 months building a huge covered
27:37raft according to God's
27:40specifications you know the
27:44story that's a a photograph taken from a
27:47film called in the
27:49beginning the Bible and that's Charlton
27:52hon playing
27:54Noah and when he played his little pipe
27:56and walked to the ark all these animals
27:59followed him it's the most amazing thing
28:03uh the the first take these animals just
28:05followed him into the AR you'll see that
28:07in the film if ever you see it but what
28:09have I put down this here do you
28:12recognize that boat one of the best
28:15oceangoing liners today it's the SS
28:17canra when I was at University back in
28:201950 I had a friend John and while I
28:23studied science he studied Marine
28:25architecture or ship design
28:29and uh that's his job and it's the first
28:32ship in history ever to be modeled on
28:34the proportions of Noah's
28:37Ark because he argued that God who knew
28:40the stresses and strains of ocean waves
28:43would know the perfect proportions of
28:45beam to length so he designed it on that
28:48proportion and it's been one of the best
28:49ships that's ever been built I just
28:52throw that in because you know it's
28:55worth taking the Bible is
28:57true might just help you in your
29:01business well I've told you what
29:03happened before the
29:05flood except that there was one family
29:08just one family a preacher and his three
29:11boys and three daughters-in-law and his
29:14wife and they both preached and
29:16practiced
29:18righteousness they lived it they spoke
29:20it and they were laughed at what you
29:23building a ship here for miles from any
29:27sea
29:28well the sea coming to the ship said
29:31Noah go on pull the other one and they
29:34laughed at him but eight people got
29:37saved out of that Flood now after the
29:41flood God promised never to do it again
29:43as long as the Earth remained he also
29:46made a covenant a sacred promise with
29:49the whole human race that he would not
29:52only never again destroy the human race
29:54but he would support the human race by
29:56providing enough food seeing that summer
29:59and winter and Springtime and harvest
30:02came regularly that's a promise God has
30:04made and God put a rainbow in the sky
30:07the reason was that the two things we
30:09need for life on Earth are light and
30:12water and when they come together you
30:15see the rainbow that is not a reminder
30:18to us of God's promise God said that's a
30:21reminder to
30:23me of my promise to you bit like God's
30:26wedding ring in the sky
30:28a reminder of his promise to be faithful
30:31and he's kept that promise even though
30:33people want him to do it again Lord when
30:36are you going to destroy all the evil
30:37people on the world so we can we can
30:39enjoy
30:40it you ever heard people talk like that
30:43you know as if God should come and
30:45destroy everybody else as if we're
30:48innocent we always think that don't we
30:50but that rainbow is a reminder
30:52incidentally when he made that promise
30:55he also demanded something of us and
30:57that was to treat human life as sacred
31:00and therefore to punish murder with
31:03execution that was one of the things he
31:05laid down he said I'll keep the human
31:08race alive I'll send you harvest time
31:10every year and believe it or not there
31:12is always every year enough food in the
31:15world to feed the
31:18population in fact in the year of the
31:21Ethiopian and Sudan famine few years ago
31:23there was
31:24133% more corn in the world than we
31:27needed
31:29it's not his
31:31fault it's our fault we're just too
31:35selfish so he's kept his promise but he
31:37said now you are to regard life as
31:39sacred so sacred that if anyone takes it
31:43his life must be taken I believe that
31:46capital punishment was abolished in this
31:48country because we'd stopped treating
31:50life as
31:51sacred I said the next thing will be
31:53abortion and it
31:56was well God made that Covenant with the
31:59whole human race the next incident that
32:02affected God deeply was
32:05Babel Babel and a man called Nimrod a
32:08mighty Hunter but who hunted people as
32:10well as animals a man who went to war an
32:16aggressor and he had
32:19Ambitions Ambitions for
32:22Humanity to build a tower that reached
32:25even into God's sphere of Heaven to
32:27challenge heaven to build it says a name
32:31for
32:32himself a
32:35reputation we know roughly what the
32:37towers looked like in those
32:40days they were called zigarette there's
32:43one there I'll show you another picture
32:44later of one uh great big brick Towers
32:47not Stone because there's no stone in
32:50that part of the world just clay but
32:52great big towers with staircases going
32:55up and up and up on the top There Were
32:57Us us signs of
32:59astrology but it wasn't so much uh
33:03worshiping stars that Nimrod built a
33:06tower for it was more to express his own
33:09power and Grandeur I found this in Time

33:13recently the race is on to build the
33:16tallest building in the world right
33:19now here's the Empire State Building
33:23it's dwarfed by what is being planned
33:25and what is being built uh here's the uh
33:28quala lumpo Malaysia um Towers the Twin
33:32Towers they're almost completed but here
33:36in Japan would you believe it in Tokyo
33:39they're going to build the Millennium
33:41Tower which is 800 M
33:45High that's over half a mile high in an
33:49earthquake zone you you just you just
33:52really wonder about man's pride and his
33:56impudence and his sheer con
33:59confidence saying we can build a taller
34:01Tower than anybody else you can come and
34:03look at them afterwards closely if you
34:05wish um there's the Sears Tower in
34:08Chicago but Chicago is already planning
34:11a kilometer High
34:13building and we go on in human Pride
34:16building these monuments to
34:19ourselves and sheare godlessness behind
34:23them well the Tower of Babel offended
34:26God very deeply
34:28and he said if I let them go on building
34:32for themselves like this there's no
34:34telling where it'll end and that's when
34:36God gave the gift of
34:38tongues for the first time and he
34:42actually gave them different languages
34:44so that they were confused and they
34:46couldn't understand each other and from
34:48then on Humanity
34:50split now as we read these stories and
34:53I'm not here to expound them all you're
34:54going to read them for yourself I'm just
34:56giving you keys to unlock you can see
34:58how the fall of Adam has just spread out
35:02and is affecting so many areas of life
35:04and still is and still there is human
35:08Pride we can do all this without
35:10God we are
35:12Almighty we see two things through these
35:15chapters we see on the one hand God's
35:18justice he always deals with a
35:21situation he always punishes he's got to
35:24if he's a good god he's a just God he's
35:27a fair God he punished Adam and Eve he
35:29punished Cain he became a homeless wer a
35:33displaced person vulnerable defenseless
35:37afraid of being killed he punished the
35:40generation of
35:41Enoch not Enoch himself but the
35:45generation and we need to remember that
35:47God could at any time Wipe Out the human
35:51race and one day one day at the end of
35:54the world he
35:56will because Jesus said as in the days
35:59of Noah so it will be in the coming of
36:02the son of man just once more God's
36:05anger will boil over so we see his
36:08Justice at Babel as well but alongside
36:11his Justice you see his Mercy that's the
36:15amazing thing even with Adam and Eve he
36:18made them clothing to hide their shame
36:21even with Cain he put a mark on his
36:23forehead so that he wouldn't be
36:25killed and above all he had the holy
36:28line of Seth running all the way through
36:30these chapters there were this these
36:33godly people Noah and his family were
36:35among them and they called on the name
36:37of the Lord and through them God was
36:40going to save the world so we see the
36:43justice and the mercy of God alongside
36:45but there's a conflict between them how
36:48should God react when his people rebel
36:50against him in Justice or
36:52Mercy that conflict goes all the way
36:54through the Old Testament it's only
36:56resolved at the
36:58cross there's a hymn about beneath the
37:01cross of Jesus Oh Fain and happy shelter
37:04I Fain would take my stand and there's a
37:06line where heaven's just Justice and
37:09Heaven's Mercy
37:10meet that's when it was
37:13resolved well I must close but I'm going
37:16to close in a rather interesting way
37:19among the people scattered at Babel were
37:23a group who climbed over the mountains
37:25to the East and went on over Mountain
37:27mountain range after mountain range and
37:29settled when they met the sea they
37:32became the great nation of
37:34China the Chinese culture goes right
37:37back to that
37:38day and they left before the alphabet
37:42had replaced the picture language of
37:45ancient Egypt the Kuni form all
37:47languages were pictorial right up to
37:51Babel and the language they took to
37:54China they put down in picture form
37:58and here is the amazing thing in the
38:00Chinese language you can
38:03reconstruct the whole story from Genesis
38:061 to Genesis 11 from the pictures in
38:10their
38:11language and in fact missionaries can go
38:13to China and say the first 11 chapters
38:17of the Bible are in your language you
38:20took the memory of all those events from
38:23Babel and we've come to tell you the
38:25rest of the story there was someone in
38:27China who told me this their word for
38:29create is made up of the pictures for
38:32mud life or motion and someone walking
38:36that's the word for creation the word
38:38for devil is made up of a person a man
38:41or a son a picture of a garden which is
38:44like
38:45that their picture for secret so the
38:48Devil is a secret person in the
38:51garden the word for
38:54tempter is made up of the word for devil
38:56plus two trees
38:59and the word a picture for cover their
39:02word for boat is made up of
39:05container mouth and eight so a boat in
39:10the Chinese language is a container for
39:12eight
39:13people and so we could go on you can
39:16reconstruct the whole of Genesis
39:181-11 from the picture language of China
39:21and when they first went they believed
39:22only in one God the maker of heaven and
39:25Earth it's only after conf Fist and
39:27Buddhist that Buddha that they got into
39:29idolatry so the Chinese language is an
39:32independent confirmation from outside
39:35the Bible that these things happened and
39:38were taken in the memory of people
39:40scattered at Babel who settled in China
39:43isn't that
39:45fascinating well that's enough for this
