Full transcript
- 0:10hello chemistry students today we will
- 0:12be continuing the identification of
- 0:13unknowns experiment
- 0:15by identifying an unknown organic
- 0:17compound
- 0:18you will need to observe the color and
- 0:20physical state of the compound
- 0:22determine the melting or boiling point
- 0:24analyze its solubility behavior
- 0:26use selective chemical classification
- 0:28tests which we have previously reviewed
- 0:31and analyzed the infrared spectrum in
- 0:33order to determine the identity of the
- 0:35unknown compound
- 0:37from the following list
- 0:49let's get started you will need to
- 0:51determine the identity of
- 0:53unknown compound number one and this is
- 0:56what
- 0:56unknown number one looks like we will
- 0:59now perform a melting point
- 1:01determination of
- 1:02unknown number one
- 1:50we will now perform a solubility test
- 1:52for unknown number one
- 2:37we will now perform an unsaturation test
- 2:40for unknown number one
- 3:01we will next check the ph of an aqueous
- 3:03solution
- 3:04in which unknown number one has been
- 3:16dissolved
- 3:40we will next dissolve a small amount of
- 3:42unknown number one
- 3:44in a five percent aqueous sodium
- 3:46bicarbonate solution and observe the
- 3:48solution carefully
- 4:17okay students you should now have enough
- 4:19information to determine the identity of
- 4:21the unknown organic compound
- 4:23this concludes the identification of
- 4:25unknown's experiment
- 4:26thank you for joining me for this
