2. 0:04and I don't want you to be afraid so
3. 0:07Scott Peterson there I got it out it
4. 0:11kind of stuck in my throat
5. 0:13um like a chicken bone but I did get it
6. 0:16out
7. 0:17why is it important because my friend
8. 0:21and colleague Laura Ingle
9. 0:24has just completed an incredible
10. 0:28incredible coverage of Scott Peterson
11. 0:32it's called the reporter's notebook the
12. 0:35Scott Peterson case it's now streaming
13. 0:38on Fox Nation and with me right now is
14. 0:41Laura Ingle Laura thank you for being
15. 0:44with us
16. 0:45Nancy thank you so much I mean talk
17. 0:48about timing this is 20 years that Lacey
18. 0:53Peterson went missing last Christmas
19. 0:55December 24th 2002 we are taking a look
20. 1:00back and I was as I was getting ready to
21. 1:02come on your show I was having the
22. 1:04memory of of being on TV with you in
23. 1:07Modesto when Scott Peterson was just
24. 1:10under suspicion at that point when he
25. 1:13was about to have a preliminary hearing
26. 1:14you and I on TV just about 20 years ago
27. 1:18talking about this you know what I
28. 1:20remember that too is it funny Laura you
29. 1:22have covered so many cases and you have
30. 1:28an encyclopedic Institutional memory of
31. 1:31so much of it in many cases I can
32. 1:34remember where I was at a certain moment
33. 1:36when I learned a particular fact on the
34. 1:41Scott Peterson case from the very
35. 1:43beginning it was all wrong the way he
36. 1:46was acting what he was doing what he
37. 1:48wasn't doing but I remember distinctly
38. 1:52Laura Ingle I was it was cold outside
39. 1:55and I was in New York and I walked into
40. 1:59the lobby of my apartment building and I
41. 2:04was looking
42. 2:05at emails
43. 2:07and somebody sent me before it was
44. 2:10released the picture of Scott Peterson
45. 2:12with his paw on Amber Fry's rear end and
46. 2:17that red satin dress I'm like
47. 2:19stop
48. 2:20I sat down right there and I started
49. 2:23calling and emailing
50. 2:25my I cannot believe this guy while his
51. 2:28wife's feet are swollen up remember she
52. 2:32had to go to her little Christmas party
53. 2:34all by herself while he was out with
54. 2:36Amber fry who thought he was single who
55. 2:39thought this was Scott Peterson's first
56. 2:40Christmas without his wife because he
57. 2:42was a widow
58. 2:44I went berserk because there it was
59. 2:46there was a Smoking Gun now tell me what
60. 2:49you learned
61. 2:51so here's what we did Nancy so this is
62. 2:54you know a 20-year look back when when
63. 2:55you have an anniversary as you will uh
64. 2:58with something like that the case this
65. 3:00large you know we felt it was
66. 3:03appropriate to just kind of stop for a
67. 3:05second and look back at not only the
68. 3:07case because I covered this case uh from
69. 3:10beginning to end I actually moved I was
70. 3:13a radio reporter in Los Angeles which we
71. 3:15talk about in the special and I was down
72. 3:17in La when the story broke and and all
73. 3:19those moments that you remember right
74. 3:21you remember where you were I remember
75. 3:23hearing about a missing pregnant woman
76. 3:25in Modesto I'm from Sacramento so this
77. 3:27is very close to my hometown and I went
78. 3:29to my news director and I said we've got
79. 3:31to go cover this look we need to help
80. 3:33that's always you know the badge of a
81. 3:35reporter is that you you can actually
82. 3:36help and with your shows too that's why
83. 3:39you do what you do in part you you get
84. 3:41these stories out there so you can help
85. 3:42you can put some exposure to a story to
86. 3:45something that's unsolved I wanted to do
87. 3:48that so so off we went up to Modesto
88. 3:50when Scott Peterson was still you know
89. 3:52walking around here and there with the
90. 3:54flyer oh yeah you know walking around he
91. 3:57he kept to himself uh it's making up his
92. 4:00lies to Amber go ahead as as The Story
93. 4:04Goes and as the family will tell you his
94. 4:07family will tell you that everybody
95. 4:09behaves differently people grieve
96. 4:12differently
97. 4:14so that that is something that we talked
98. 4:16about in the special I think I'll
99. 4:17actually just say that Jackie Sydney did
100. 4:19she actually just say everybody agrees
101. 4:21differently I think she did
102. 4:23did you say and that's a quote okay you
103. 4:26were quoting somebody
104. 4:27grieving differently I don't know does
105. 4:29that include calling your mistress and
106. 4:31lying about where you are pretending
107. 4:32you're in Paris
108. 4:34while you're really at your wife's vigil
109. 4:37where you don't say anything because you
110. 4:39don't want to be on TV and get caught
111. 4:42right so so I spoke to and and if you
112. 4:45guys know the story anybody listening or
113. 4:47anybody that is digging into this for
114. 4:49the first time if you know this story
115. 4:50you know that Scott Peterson's
116. 4:53sister-in-law Janie has been leading the
117. 4:56charge for two decades now to try and
118. 4:59exonerate her brother-in-law that that
119. 5:01family does believe that he did not do
120. 5:04it obviously police prosecution
121. 5:08jurors family on Lacey's side all
122. 5:11believe he did it and he has you know he
123. 5:13was sentenced to death his death
124. 5:14sentence was overturned he is serving
125. 5:17life in prison without the possibility
126. 5:18of parole I went to his prison this
127. 5:22actually during Christmas break do they
128. 5:24offer you a glass of Bruno
129. 5:27I was unable to get into Mule Creek
130. 5:30State Prison house that's a yes or no
131. 5:33question
132. 5:34miss lady that you didn't give me Bruno
133. 5:38no sorry go I so he's on so what what's
134. 5:43interesting is he goes from San Quentin
135. 5:45when his death sentence is overturned
136. 5:48um and that was that happened by the
137. 5:50California Supreme Court 2021 his death
138. 5:53sentence is overturned so he goes to
139. 5:55Mule Creek State Prison where he is now
140. 5:57serving his life without parole then
141. 6:00it's on a two it's on a two-lane road in
142. 6:03the middle of what used to be Gold
143. 6:04Country it's on the dusty two-lane road
144. 6:09um by a town named ion and that is where
145. 6:12he will be but but in the meantime there
146. 6:15are appeals Nancy we all know this is
147. 6:17everybody listening knows that there is
148. 6:20a an appeal process so that was one of
149. 6:23the things we wanted to do was let's
150. 6:24talk about where we are now 20 years
151. 6:27later yeah because I wanted to break him
152. 6:28and I didn't want to interrupt you
153. 6:29because I don't like look backs I don't
154. 6:32like to look back on what's already
155. 6:33happened I'd like to look forward
156. 6:36I like to be in the now and looking
157. 6:38forward because I can't change a darn
158. 6:40thing about what's already happened I
159. 6:42can only learn from mistakes or learn
160. 6:44from history so I'm very curious about
161. 6:49what Scott Peterson's family and I got
162. 6:53to give credit to Jamie Peterson she's
163. 6:55never given up I don't agree with
164. 6:56anything she says but she's loyal she is
165. 7:01loyal so I got to give Jamie Peterson
166. 7:03that
167. 7:04you know and and you will see in our
168. 7:06special her evidence room I flew to San
169. 7:09Diego to see her and she did oh I'm
170. 7:12looking at you with her right now in her
171. 7:13evidence room I'm looking right at it go
172. 7:15ahead she's got these bulletin boards
173. 7:17that she's put together and she actually
174. 7:19used to be just one now it expands to
175. 7:21three different boards that Circle the
176. 7:23room that go over every single minute of
177. 7:27when Lacey was last heard from uh to the
178. 7:30end of the story and the burglary across
179. 7:32the street which she's still to this day
180. 7:34believes and so does Scott Peterson's
181. 7:36family had something to do oh really
182. 7:39Lacey's disappearance question the
183. 7:41burglars that the cops spoke to and
184. 7:43interviewed those burglars
185. 7:45that's correct okay question to you did
186. 7:47you also in addition to speaking with
187. 7:49Jamie Peterson and seeing her war room
188. 7:51as it were did you speak to Al brookini
189. 7:56who worked the case for the state
190. 7:59I sure did and you know Nancy was so
191. 8:01interesting because as somebody who sat
192. 8:02in that courtroom every single day of
193. 8:05this trial and the sentencing and
194. 8:07remember I moved to Redwood City I got
195. 8:10an apartment and I moved in across the
196. 8:12street from the courthouse in jail so I
197. 8:14could be there every single minute of
198. 8:16this trial and that's exactly what I did
199. 8:17and I never had a chance to talk to Al
200. 8:21brookini until she is a great guy
201. 8:24he was he was he was so kind to give us
202. 8:28his time he came and he met me for this
203. 8:31special we went over everything and but
204. 8:34they're they're right so I go and I talk
205. 8:35to Jamie Peterson who was convinced that
206. 8:37the burglary had something to do with it
207. 8:39and so I spoke to why doesn't she
208. 8:42outright say the Brokers killed or
209. 8:44kidnapped Lacey
210. 8:46she believes isn't that her Theory
211. 8:48something
212. 8:49essentially yes essentially there is her
213. 8:52theory is that these two guys Stephen
214. 8:54Todd and Glenn Pierce who were arrested
215. 8:57polygraphed confessed to the burglary
216. 9:00served time and had Alibis confirmed
217. 9:04um she does still believe that they had
218. 9:06something to do with it because there
219. 9:07were more than these two guys present
220. 9:11according to neighbor Diane Jackson who
221. 9:15drove by on the 24th said I saw a van
222. 9:18with several men and the safe was on the
223. 9:21lawn you know this is before we know
224. 9:24that Lacey is missing before anything
225. 9:26happens there's something else going on
226. 9:28across the street there's a witness who
227. 9:31says that there were other men there
228. 9:32have you ever watched Bewitched
229. 9:37then you know about Gladys Kravitz
230. 9:40yes yes okay the visibility neighbor
231. 9:44that always thinks she sees things
232. 9:46right her okay so this woman
233. 9:51says there were more than two burglars
234. 9:53in the van and therefore what am I
235. 9:56supposed let's follow that through Laura
236. 9:57Ingall you're the investigative reporter
237. 10:00let's follow that through to its natural
238. 10:01conclusion so there what am I supposed
239. 10:03to believe that the burners split up and
240. 10:08some of them killed Lacey and some of
241. 10:10them didn't
242. 10:12well there are questions she has
243. 10:15questions Janie Peterson does about the
244. 10:17investigative measures that were taken
245. 10:19about this burglary because remember
246. 10:22when the guys get caught the Medina the
247. 10:24Medina family is the family across the
248. 10:26street
249. 10:27right yes the Medina's Leaf the Medina's
250. 10:30leave for Christmas Eve to go visit
251. 10:33family they leave at 10 30 a.m on
252. 10:36December 24th they return at 4 20 p.m on
253. 10:39December 26th they walk in holy cow
254. 10:42we've been we've been burglarized and
255. 10:45all they have to do is walk across the
256. 10:46street because the world is there across
257. 10:48the street at the Peterson's
258. 10:49investigating Lacey's disappearance they
259. 10:51say we have had our house has been hit
260. 10:53everything is upside down and then they
261. 10:56do track down the burglars and the
262. 10:58burglars say yeah we we did the uh we
263. 11:01did the deed on the 27th they're like
264. 11:03well that's not possible because
265. 11:06doesn't Diane Jackson the neighbor
266. 11:09report that she saw three men three men
267. 11:12only not a gang three men loading a safe
268. 11:16into a van in front of the Medina home
269. 11:18the morning Lacy went missing isn't that
270. 11:20her theory yes
271. 11:26track down two guys is that correct
272. 11:30that's correct and they confessed to the
273. 11:32burglary they took a polygraph and the
274. 11:36police say that they found Alibis is
275. 11:39that correct
276. 11:41that's correct but there is where is
277. 11:43this there's a third person maybe more
278. 11:46we don't know who else might have been
279. 11:47in the van a guy named Mark there was an
280. 11:50Indian male a man with a 666 tattoo
281. 11:54possibly involved five suspects to
282. 11:57arrest
283. 11:58that's the question and then there's you
284. 12:01know not to get too deep in the weeds
285. 12:02but there's the the story of a police
286. 12:07Lieutenant who was working at a jail who
287. 12:10overheard a conversation
288. 12:12of Stephen Todd allegedly that he had a
289. 12:15conversation with a family member and he
290. 12:17tells somebody on the phone according to
291. 12:19this Lieutenant that he heard an inmate
292. 12:23talking with his brother who said Lacey
293. 12:25witnessed the break-in the theory is
294. 12:28that she stumbles across the burglary
295. 12:31she maybe doesn't even confront them she
296. 12:34confronts them she doesn't confront them
297. 12:35but she's there they Panic they do
298. 12:38something well wait a minute and they
299. 12:40panic and do something okay
300. 12:43why didn't they kill Diane Jackson
301. 12:46he was driving
302. 12:47she's driving she's also a neighbor
303. 12:51right she's also a neighbor that they
304. 12:54can find but she lives so I right so I I
305. 12:58don't know if you have it handy the
306. 12:59detective brokini and I spoke to
307. 13:01detective Bueller about this I asked
308. 13:03albertini do you believe there is any
309. 13:06chance anyway anyhow that burglary
310. 13:10across the street had anything to do was
311. 13:12there anything that was missed if you
312. 13:14have that sound you can play that you
313. 13:15know what as a matter of fact Laura
314. 13:17Ingle we do take a listen
315. 13:21is there a chance that the burglary
316. 13:24across the street from Scott and Lacey's
317. 13:26house had anything to do with her
318. 13:28disappearance 100 no no way we'd know
319. 13:31they can't keep a secret it ain't like
320. 13:34that those guys they polygraphed they
321. 13:36confessed they went to jail they gave us
322. 13:39all their info we confirmed their Alibis
323. 13:41no chance that she came out to walk the
324. 13:43dog she saw what was going on went over
325. 13:46and said hey what are you guys doing
326. 13:48confronted the burglars
327. 13:50she wasn't even there
328. 13:52she was already gone with Scott
329. 13:54what do you have to say to those who are
330. 13:56out there currently including Scott
331. 13:58Peterson's family who say that the
332. 14:02Medina burglary was connected to The
333. 14:05Disappearance of Lacey when it comes to
334. 14:07the burglary that was probably the most
335. 14:09thoroughly investigated burglary that
336. 14:12had ever been done at Modesto Police
337. 14:13Department up to that point
338. 14:15and let's hear more to my friend and
339. 14:20colleague detective brokini and our cut
340. 14:22four
341. 14:24I think she was killed on the 24th in
342. 14:27the morning
343. 14:28and I think it was a soft kill if you
344. 14:30look at her bed he's either behind her
345. 14:34or in front of her bags her or just
346. 14:36strangles her and she scratches them
347. 14:39he rolls her up in the blue tarp puts
348. 14:42her in the truck somebody sees them now
349. 14:45he's got to put something else in the
350. 14:46truck some umbrellas make sure it's in a
351. 14:49blue tarp and then takes her to the shop
352. 14:52there ain't nobody there it's an
353. 14:54industrial area there ain't houses
354. 14:55around
355. 14:57can I ask you a question Laura Ingall
356. 14:59and you've got so much more to tell me
357. 15:00guys let me tell you again this is
358. 15:02called reporters in Notebook the Scott
359. 15:04Peterson
360. 15:07story or trial
361. 15:09case case thank you so reporters
362. 15:13notebook the Scott Peterson case and
363. 15:15it's streaming on Fox Nation right now
364. 15:17and it's pretty incredible and this is
365. 15:20all Laura Ingalls idea and she has
366. 15:23executed it incredibly when you're
367. 15:27talking to Janie Peterson and you're
368. 15:30asking her about facts
369. 15:32what was her theory about why her
370. 15:35brother-in-law Scott Peterson places
371. 15:37himself at the scene of the disposal of
372. 15:41Lacey and Connor his wife and unborn
373. 15:44baby boy on the day they were dumped
374. 15:47there and went missing the marina
375. 15:51well she said that he had this boat and
376. 15:54he wanted to Simply get it in the water
377. 15:56and take it out for a spin
378. 15:58and that's really it but what her point
379. 16:02of contention is about the fact that do
380. 16:04you remember I mean I remember so well
381. 16:07the police coming out and saying we need
382. 16:08to verify Lacey Peterson's husband's
383. 16:11Alibi here's his truck here's his boat
384. 16:14if anybody has seen the truck in the
385. 16:16boat please contact the Modesto Police
386. 16:18Department because he says he was there
387. 16:20on the 24th now if you were Jamie
388. 16:23Peterson and you're watching this and
389. 16:25you're the Peterson Family you're
390. 16:27thinking well they just gave away his
391. 16:29Alibi so if somebody did have
392. 16:31Lacey or the body then they've given
393. 16:34away you know they've given a very easy
394. 16:36way to frame this guy put the body in
395. 16:39the water where this guy said he was
396. 16:41that day now she has a very detailed
397. 16:44timeline that we go over in our box okay
398. 16:46again again Laura Ingle you're going
399. 16:49warp speed let's take what you just said
400. 16:52you're quoting Jamie Peterson the
401. 16:54sister-in-law through to its logical
402. 16:57conclusion so what her theory is
403. 17:00regarding the marina is that the real
404. 17:04killer
405. 17:06sees where cops have said hey if any of
406. 17:10you know anything about this boat and
407. 17:12this truck being at this Marina
408. 17:15tell us
409. 17:16so her theory is that the real killer
410. 17:19saw that and heard it and went WoW
411. 17:21instead of burying her out in the woods
412. 17:24I'm going to go and risk getting caught
413. 17:27and taking her body and I'm going to
414. 17:29dump it at the marina and make it look
415. 17:31like he did it is that the theory
416. 17:34that is one of the possible okay all
417. 17:37right
418. 17:38yes and can I ask if you questioned
419. 17:41Janie Peterson on her brother's
420. 17:43Clairvoyant abilities telling that Amber
421. 17:47fry and this is well before Lacey was
422. 17:50murdered telling Amber fry that this
423. 17:53would be his first Christmas as a
424. 17:55widower
425. 17:57and then no we talked he was
426. 18:01right so you know that was listen you
427. 18:04know I had we sat down and we talked
428. 18:06about Scott Peterson's infidelity and
429. 18:09she can't defend that she said I don't
430. 18:13care who he's sleeping with Laura Engel
431. 18:14don't care
432. 18:16I care about him
433. 18:19admitting that this will be the first
434. 18:21Christmas that his wife was dead and
435. 18:23then lo and behold a few days later it
436. 18:26was
437. 18:27so he gets clearly sleeping with whoever
438. 18:29he can manage to convince to hop into
439. 18:33bed with him that's his problem my
440. 18:35question is about his Clairvoyance how
441. 18:37did he somehow know look into his
442. 18:40crystal ball and know Lacey would be
443. 18:41dead by Christmas
444. 18:43now I'm going to say I don't think he he
445. 18:46did say this is going to be my first
446. 18:48Christmas without my wife
447. 18:50he did in my interpretation of what he
448. 18:54told Amber Frye imply that she was dead
449. 18:58I don't know if he ever used the words
450. 19:00she's dead
451. 19:01what does that mean to you I agreed and
452. 19:05agreed and agreed but the point is is
453. 19:09that Janie can't defend that part and
454. 19:11she says you know my brother my
455. 19:13brother-in-law had a problem with women
456. 19:16with sleeping with women and and making
457. 19:18up stories and you know she can't defend
458. 19:22that but she says the lies that were
459. 19:24pulled in regards to
460. 19:26what his marital status was where you
461. 19:29know all of that can't be descended but
462. 19:31there are no lies when it comes to the
463. 19:34Murder She said there are a fair lies
464. 19:36but there's no murder lies can I just
465. 19:39give you a quote by Albert keaney
466. 19:41that you interviewed in depth
467. 19:43according to bro keaney
468. 19:46uh Detective albertini from Modesto PD
469. 19:49Peterson told Amber fry quote he had
470. 19:52lost his wife and this would be his
471. 19:54first holiday without his wife
472. 19:57the detective said he later learned
473. 19:59Scott Peterson called fright daily
474. 20:01starting Christmas Day the day after
475. 20:04Lacey disappeared
476. 20:06his first holiday without his wife
477. 20:09that's from brokini
478. 20:12two weeks before his wife was murdered
479. 20:15Scott Peterson told his mistress his
480. 20:16wife was already dead and that he was
481. 20:19about to spend his first Christmas
482. 20:20without her says the lead detective in
483. 20:23the case that was his testimony at trial
484. 20:25and I'm quoting
485. 20:27that's what he said
486. 20:29well you're right I'm just remembering
487. 20:32the conversation I had with JD we didn't
488. 20:34hear we didn't talk about the word dead
489. 20:36but she did say that she just couldn't
490. 20:40defend the affair part but in terms of
491. 20:43the murder
492. 20:45he didn't do it you did an extensive
493. 20:48investigation
494. 20:49and I I don't want to call it an
495. 20:51anniversary but you're not just marking
496. 20:54the time when Lacey left this Earth and
497. 20:57Peterson became a suspect and went to
498. 20:59trial you actually re-investigate quite
499. 21:02a bit of it yourself hopefully putting
500. 21:05some of the fires out that have Arisen
501. 21:08over time
502. 21:09what was your biggest takeaway Laura and
503. 21:12guys I'm talking to my friend and
504. 21:14colleague Laura Ingle on about her
505. 21:17incredible new venture reporter's
506. 21:20notebook the Scott Peterson case is
507. 21:22streaming right now on Fox Nation I've
508. 21:24seen it and I'm going to watch it again
509. 21:25because there's so much information in
510. 21:28it I couldn't really digest it all at
511. 21:30once but what's your big takeaway Laura
512. 21:33I think one of the big takeaways is the
513. 21:37Lacy siding the the investigative
514. 21:40measures and I do believe that the it is
515. 21:43not just the Modesto Police Department
516. 21:44it was the Stanislaus County District
517. 21:46Attorney's office as well and there's
518. 21:48this big huge question were all the Lacy
519. 21:52sightings followed up on were they all
520. 21:54investigated and there's this couple in
521. 21:57Modesto they still live just a few
522. 21:59blocks away from where Scott and Lacy
523. 22:01Peterson lived on Covina I went and
524. 22:03spoke to them Homer and Sue Maldonado
525. 22:05they claim that they spoke to the police
526. 22:08they called in a tip he swears to this
527. 22:11day 20 years later that he saw Lacey
528. 22:14Peterson in the window of time after dot
529. 22:18Peterson had already left for the marina
530. 22:20and about in that there's this critical
531. 22:2230 minute window right so right around
532. 22:24that time he squirts that he follow AC
533. 22:26Peterson struggling with the dog didn't
534. 22:28that come forward at trial
535. 22:31did
536. 22:33garagos bring that up
537. 22:35that Witnesses saw her after
538. 22:39Peterson took her away took her body
539. 22:42away
540. 22:43I remember remember that they had like a
541. 22:45pregnant person lineup they had a
542. 22:47incredibly there were multiple pregnant
543. 22:50women with dark hair with golden
544. 22:53retrievers one even with a name of
545. 22:56Mackenzie the same name as the Peterson
546. 22:58I remember that
547. 23:00it's like you know and and this was
548. 23:02somebody that worked for law enforcement
549. 23:04and had recently received threats so
550. 23:06could it be that Lacey was mistaken for
551. 23:08that person
552. 23:10um that was investigated and so when P
553. 23:13when some people say the Modesto Police
554. 23:15never called me back the Stanislaus
555. 23:16County D and I asked rocini about that
556. 23:18he said we had an entire team of Lacey
557. 23:21Peterson sightings Task Force if you
558. 23:24will of people that went around and
559. 23:26followed up on those sightings so
560. 23:28brokini tells me that every Lacy
561. 23:31sighting that was relevant was followed
562. 23:34up on Homer Maldonado who I talked to
563. 23:36told me they never they meaning the
564. 23:39police or any Authority came back and
565. 23:41spoke to him and we talked about what he
566. 23:43says he saw that morning he says that he
567. 23:46saw a woman with star care who matches
568. 23:48Lacey's description perfectly with the
569. 23:50exact same dog struggling with the dog
570. 23:52and that conversation is in our special
571. 23:55reporter's notebook and that is that's
572. 23:58been a big contention of were all of
573. 24:01those sightings followed up on depends
574. 24:04on who you talk to Janie will tell you
575. 24:06they all were not broken he will tell
576. 24:09detective brokini will tell you the ones
577. 24:11we had a team of people that were
578. 24:13assigned to that and brokini you know
579. 24:14there were so many people that said
580. 24:15throughout this trial that or throughout
581. 24:18this case an investigation that
582. 24:19investigators zeroed in on Scott and we
583. 24:22know that that happens right they always
