Ultrawide VS Normal Monitor (Don’t Choose the WRONG One!) — Transcript

2. 0:01it com to choosing a new monitor and one
3. 0:04of the biggest dilemas is trying to
4. 0:06choose between an ultra wide and a
5. 0:08normal monitor you may want to pay
6. 0:11attention to avoid making a costly
7. 0:14mistake I've been using both ultrawide
8. 0:17and normal monitors for a few years now
9. 0:19and I've noticed there are a ton of
10. 0:21advantages and disadvantages when it
11. 0:23come to them you may have heard of the
12. 0:26term 16x9 or 21x 9 when searching for
13. 0:30monitor but what does those terms mean
14. 0:32the terms 16x9 and 21x 9 refer to the
15. 0:36aspect ratio of a monitor which is the
16. 0:39relationship between the width and
17. 0:40height of the screen when it comes to
18. 0:42gaming there is no denying that
19. 0:44ultrawide monitors are more immersive
20. 0:47due to the WID utilizing more of your
21. 0:49personal Vision however it may not
22. 0:53always make sense depending on the type
23. 0:55of games that you play if you play a lot
24. 0:58of racing games and ultrawide could make
25. 1:01more sense although when it comes to FPS
26. 1:04or strategy games you could benefit more
27. 1:08from the extra vertical space
28. 1:10traditional monitored offer that being
29. 1:13said I'll contradict myself a little by
30. 1:16saying you may prefer the extra pericial
31. 1:19Vision ultrawide monitors can offer you
32. 1:21for FPS games since you may be able to
33. 1:25catch a glimpse of your enemy in your
34. 1:27personal Vision it is worth noting that
35. 1:29if you you intend to stream your games
36. 1:31on Twitch YouTube Etc using an ultrawide
37. 1:34may not be the best option unless you
38. 1:36intend to run your games in a 16x9
39. 1:39resolution which will introduce black
40. 1:41bars at either side of your screen if
41. 1:43you play a lot of retro games it may
42. 1:46make more sense to look at a normal
43. 1:48monitor since most older titles aren't
44. 1:51designed to work with ultrawide monitors
45. 1:53this could result in stretching or black
46. 1:56bars either side of the screen with that
47. 1:58being said if you have an older system
48. 2:01it does take more GPU horsepower to
49. 2:04drive an Al wide display due to the
50. 2:07extra pixels so bear that in mind as
51. 2:10well if you intend to use a game console
52. 2:12it may be stretched or you'll experience
53. 2:15black boards at either side of the
54. 2:17display which could take away from the
55. 2:18immersion in terms of productivity this
56. 2:21is where ultrawide monitors tend to
57. 2:24shine I used to use two 16x9 monitors
58. 2:27side by side but I found it would better
59. 2:30for my neck when switching to an
60. 2:32ultrawide monitor I was able to fit
61. 2:35pretty much the same amount of content
62. 2:38on my ultrawide display and didn't need
63. 2:41to turn my head as much I'm able to fit
64. 2:44three applications on one screen but I
65. 2:46usually just use the split screen
66. 2:48functionality which is the equivalent to
67. 2:50two 4x3 monitors side by side without
68. 2:53the bezel in the middle you can do split
69. 2:55screen on a normal 16x9 monitor however
70. 2:59the content will be a bit more squashed
71. 3:01that being said the vertical space may
72. 3:04be more useful if you are viewing
73. 3:06multiple documents or lines of code if
74. 3:08you create content there can be pros and
75. 3:11cons with both types of monitors on one
76. 3:13hand you could look at an ultrawide
77. 3:15Monitor and notice you have more
78. 3:17horizontal timeline space which is
79. 3:20fantastic however you realize there's
80. 3:23not that much vertical space which could
81. 3:25be an issue if you like to work with lot
82. 3:28of layers in that case and just get a
83. 3:31normal monitor one thing to note is that
84. 3:33using an ultra wise does give you an
85. 3:36advantage when it comes to working with
86. 3:37more footage since that you can use that
87. 3:40extra space for media bins Etc if you're
88. 3:43someone who watches a lot of YouTube
89. 3:45videos I'd personally get a normal
90. 3:47monitor due to the same reasons as
91. 3:49before you'll get those annoying black
92. 3:52bars aside unless you come across a
93. 3:54creator that uploads in 21 by9 which is
94. 3:58very rare in fact in fact some creators
95. 4:01upload a video in 16x9 then use fake
96. 4:04black bar to imitate the 21 by9 look I
97. 4:08know I've been personally guilty of
98. 4:09doing that myself this can lead to a
99. 4:12strange looking video on your Ultra wide
100. 4:14monitor that's small and not a great
101. 4:16experience at all this then leads me
102. 4:18onto the desk setup and ergonomics of
103. 4:21course you'll need to get a wider desk
104. 4:23if you intend to go for an ultra wide
105. 4:25Monitor and if that's not something you
106. 4:28can do then a a normal monitor would be
107. 4:31best suited for you ultrawide monitors
108. 4:34tend to come with larger stands that
109. 4:36take up a lot of room on your desk this
110. 4:38is because they are heavier and need
111. 4:40that extra support I'd personally get a
112. 4:43monitor arm that's suitable for your
113. 4:44monitor I'll leave some of my personal
114. 4:47favorites down in the description but
115. 4:49it's important to verify the monitor you
116. 4:51intend to purchase will be supported by
117. 4:53the arm from a weight and size
118. 4:56perspective last but not least it's a
119. 4:58cost UL wide monitors have gotten a lot
120. 5:01more affordable in the recent years but
121. 5:03normal 16x9 monitors tend to be
122. 5:06generally cheaper I hope this video has
