Full transcript
- 0:00I make a lot of talking head video
- 0:01content and I mean a lot of content so
- 0:04in this video I want to walk you through
- 0:05my entire process from camera microphone
- 0:07and software plus some AI tools to speed
- 0:09up the process and why using Riverside
- 0:12can actually make the whole process way
- 0:13easier so let me actually Swap this
- 0:15around and I'll show you what I'm
- 0:17looking at every time I record first up
- 0:19is the camera I record all my content
- 0:20with a Sony a74 mirrorless camera with a
- 0:23sigma 35mm lens f1.4 I usually keep it
- 0:27around f1.6 or 1.8 I'm recording
- 0:30directly to the SD card on that camera
- 0:32but I also have a video HDMI output
- 0:34going to my Blackmagic A10 mini pro
- 0:36switcher this way I can preview the
- 0:38video right here on a monitor on this
- 0:40monitor I also have my Boll camera or
- 0:42top down shot so if I need to preview
- 0:44that I could see it all right here plus
- 0:46I have a secondary display for my Mac
- 0:47going over here which is really helpful
- 0:49for like webinars or if I want to screen
- 0:51share something directly from my
- 0:52switcher audio wise my audio is actually
- 0:54being recorded into this roadter Pro 2
- 0:57but the microphone is actually a
- 0:59Sennheiser
- 1:00mk416 that's the shotgun microphone
- 1:02right here it's an industry standard and
- 1:05that microphone is connected to that
- 1:07roadter Pro 2 over there I'm recording
- 1:10the audio separately directly into audio
- 1:12hijack on my computer you can see it
- 1:14running right now I'm recording the
- 1:16audio it's a simple little recording I
- 1:18could record it into the camera or to
- 1:19the roadter I like recording my audio
- 1:21separately I match it up later in a
- 1:23multicam clip and I also run some
- 1:25filters through it using isotope rx10
- 1:27I'll show you that in a second as far as
- 1:29a b camera this is my Sony a6400 camera
- 1:33with another Sigma lens a 24 to70 I like
- 1:35a zoom lens on that if I need to get
- 1:37close to something like an iPhone and
- 1:39that's mounted to the wall using this
- 1:40newer arm again that HDMI cable and
- 1:43constant power is running down the wall
- 1:45and both of my cameras are going into
- 1:47that ATM mini pro and yeah I got a
- 1:49couple podcast microphones over here if
- 1:51I need as well also I'm doing a screen
- 1:53recording right now and the tool I use
- 1:54for that is clean shot X I'll put a link
- 1:56to all the tools I'm using in the video
- 1:58description but you can actually see it
- 1:59running down here on the Monitor and I
- 2:01like it because it actually captures
- 2:02Mouse clicks and puts a little nice
- 2:04circle around it and if I do any
- 2:05keyboard shortcuts like command and then
- 2:07a space bar you'll see those keyboard
- 2:09shortcuts right there at the bottom so
- 2:10if I was done recording I would hit stop
- 2:12on audio hijack stop clean shot X stop
- 2:14my b-roll camera and then hit the stop
- 2:17button on my Sony a74 let me show you
- 2:19what happens after that now I edit my
- 2:21talking head video content in Final Cut
- 2:23and as you can see I have two SD cards
- 2:25this is from my a-roll camera or my Sony
- 2:27a74 and my b roll camera I start with
- 2:30the a roll I actually run that video
- 2:31first through an AI tool and I'll show
- 2:33you that in a second Final Cut brings up
- 2:35that import window and actually already
- 2:36have two videos recorded on this SD card
- 2:39so I'm going to add these to some
- 2:40specific events this one is about a new
- 2:42Top Secret Riverside feature so I'll put
- 2:43that into the Riverside features I don't
- 2:46want this window to close because I'm
- 2:47actually going to import both of these
- 2:48video files at once and this other video
- 2:50is all about podcast tips the difference
- 2:52between apple podcast and Spotify and
- 2:54what your show looks like in each so
- 2:56I'll click that video import and now
- 2:58both of those videos are being imported
- 2:59ort it now I actually had some screen
- 3:01recordings from both of these videos and
- 3:03you'll see here in Final Cut I favored
- 3:04all the folders that I quickly
- 3:06referenced using cleanshot X all my
- 3:08screen recordings are saved to this
- 3:09folder and you'll see I have these two
- 3:11right here this one was about Apple
- 3:13podcast vers Spotify so I'll import that
- 3:15into my podcast tips event here in Final
- 3:17Cut and this one is about the Top Secret
- 3:19Riverside features and then I'll add
- 3:21that to a different event here now once
- 3:22the a-roll finishes importing I'll
- 3:24import The Boll but while all that's
- 3:25copying let me work on the audio so like
- 3:27I mentioned I record all my audio to a
- 3:29separate wave file and here's my folder
- 3:31where all that's saved let's start out
- 3:32with this podcast and every app audio
- 3:34the difference between apple podcast and
- 3:36Spotify I've said every wave file to
- 3:38open up automatically into isotope rx10
- 3:40this is what the editor looks like and
- 3:42while I don't edit the audio
- 3:43specifically I do run a couple filters
- 3:45number one is breath control I don't
- 3:47particularly like hearing my breaths in
- 3:48the videos so I have a preset set for my
- 3:50microphone and I render the entire audio
- 3:53clip so it removes any breads does a
- 3:55really good job at this I love this tool
- 3:56in isotope there's obviously a bunch of
- 3:58other tools here another big one is DS I
- 4:01use their podcast interview DS and so
- 4:03any s's or sibilance I can render that
- 4:06out of the audio and that'll just make
- 4:08it sound way cleaner these are really
- 4:10the only two filters I typically use in
- 4:12isotope again there are a bunch of other
- 4:13tools like noise remover EQ but actually
- 4:16apply some of those directly in Final
- 4:18Cut once I've run these two filters the
- 4:20dser and my breath remover then I'll
- 4:22export a different version of this video
- 4:24file I export it as a wave file the
- 4:27highest quality I can and I typically
- 4:28put at the end of the file name just the
- 4:30word fix in all caps this way I can tell
- 4:32the difference between the audio files
- 4:33I've processed and the ones I've not now
- 4:36you'll see here I have podcast in every
- 4:37app. wve and podcast and every apppp
- 4:40fix. wve yes very scientific I know now
- 4:42going back to Final Cut this is in my
- 4:44podcast tips event and so now I'll open
- 4:46the import window again with command I I
- 4:49have Riverside audio as another favorite
- 4:51folder here in Final Cut and I'll do the
- 4:53podcast in every app fix this is what I
- 4:54just ran through isotope rx10 and I'll
- 4:57import this audio directly now it's
- 4:59still import recording from the SD card
- 5:00and other media so I'll give that a few
- 5:02minutes and while I wait for that let me
- 5:03show you how much easier this would be
- 5:04if I just recorded in Riverside and yes
- 5:06even recording solo video content or
- 5:08talking head content you have so many
- 5:10more benefits When you record directly
- 5:12to the Riverside platform for instance
- 5:13let's say I want to record a solo video
- 5:15about a new Riverside feature I'll jump
- 5:17into my studio I can select my
- 5:18Blackmagic A10 mini pro so I get the
- 5:20same video shot that I'm recording to
- 5:22the local SD card and I can still choose
- 5:24my roadter Pro as my microphone input
- 5:27and while I'm not wearing headphones I'm
- 5:28the only one recording here in the
- 5:29studio so I don't have to worry about
- 5:30noise bleed or echo or anything like
- 5:32that I'll join the studio I can make
- 5:34this Frame full screen by clicking the
- 5:35expand frame option here and now I've
- 5:37eliminated a need for a preview monitor
- 5:39while I have my multiv view over here I
- 5:41can also just use Riverside to see the
- 5:42camera shot and I can preview it and say
- 5:44yeah looks great and I'll title the
- 5:46recording new Riverside feature you can
- 5:48see I have the audio levels here so I
- 5:49can monitor that and Riverside records
- 5:51locally so your audio is going to be
- 5:53uncompressed wave video is high quality
- 5:55and I don't have to worry about
- 5:56importing or SD cards or anything I'm
- 5:58going to record directly to to the
- 5:59Riverside platform not only that but
- 6:01Riverside can now act as your
- 6:02teleprompter I can actually paste a
- 6:04script right here I put some Latin
- 6:06filler text and then turn on the
- 6:07teleprompter feature and now the script
- 6:09can automatically scroll while I'm
- 6:11recording the content and I can use this
- 6:13as my teleprompter so Riverside is now
- 6:15your preview monitor and your
- 6:16teleprompter and your SD card and pretty
- 6:19much everything else of course I can
- 6:20decrease the text size increase it
- 6:22change the timing or speed of the scroll
- 6:24and more and let me hit record and just
- 6:26to give you an idea this is actually the
- 6:28video recorded in River side using my
- 6:30audio using the same camera I typically
- 6:32use and I can record in up to 4K if I
- 6:34have a 4K capture device and so you can
- 6:36record that solo video content right
- 6:38here on Riverside and you get lots of
- 6:39benefits after you're done recording as
- 6:41well let me show you that I can see that
- 6:43my content's been fully uploaded and now
- 6:44I can leave the studio so here's a solo
- 6:46recording I did in Riverside now of
- 6:48course I can download my raw video high
- 6:50quality video file right here and my
- 6:52uncompressed wave file so I can download
- 6:54those and still edit it in Final Cut
- 6:55like I normally would rather than
- 6:57importing from the SD card I just
- 6:58download it here but but because I
- 6:59recorded in Riverside now I have access
- 7:01to the magic clips feature so I can hit
- 7:03Riverside generate multiple vertical
- 7:05Clips ready to share to social media
- 7:06using AI basically does that for me or I
- 7:08can jump into the Riverside editor and
- 7:10using the Riverside editor in my content
- 7:12I also get a transcript from my
- 7:14recording automatically I didn't have to
- 7:16do anything to get an additional
- 7:17transcript I can edit the content by
- 7:19selecting and deleting words I still
- 7:20have my timeline which I can zoom in and
- 7:22zoom out just like I was editing and
- 7:24Final Cut I can split parts of the clips
- 7:26select the region remove it and now I'm
- 7:28editing my video content basically like
- 7:30I'm in Final Cut plus I can do things
- 7:32like add captions quickly automatically
- 7:34change the layout and format with just
- 7:36the click of a button you would have to
- 7:37create multiple projects to do that in
- 7:39Final Cut and I can just do it with a
- 7:40click right here in Riverside I can use
- 7:42some of our magic tools like remove all
- 7:43silences from the recording add a little
- 7:45rounded corners and maybe some color or
- 7:47border around the image then I can just
- 7:49export that video when I'm done
- 7:50recording it right here from Riverside
- 7:52so whatever your workflow try recording
- 7:54directly in Riverside and you get access
- 7:55to all of these features like magic
- 7:56clips editing via the transcript remove
- 7:58silences and a ton more if you want to
- 8:00learn more about the Riverside editor
- 8:01I'll put a link to that down in the
- 8:02description or you can click it above
- 8:04all right my a roll has finished
- 8:05importing and so I'll eject that SD card
- 8:08and then put in my Boll and I'll be
- 8:09making a multicam clip from that here's
- 8:11my Boll I'm adding to my podcast tips
- 8:14event and I'll import it here now my
- 8:16next step is actually taking my a-roll
- 8:17video which I imported right here and
- 8:19I'm going to run this through an AI tool
- 8:21called gling doai I pulled up the
- 8:23original file here and I'm going to open
- 8:25gling gling is a powerful AI tool I
- 8:28basically import my video file I'm going
- 8:29to title this project and hit continue
- 8:32what gling does is remove any silences
- 8:34and it can recognize bad takes so if I
- 8:36was going to say something and I started
- 8:37over and over so if I was going to say
- 8:39something and I start it over and over
- 8:40and then I continue typically the last
- 8:42take is the best one and the one I
- 8:44normally want to keep well gling knows
- 8:46that and it will automatically remove
- 8:47all those bad takes and silences so this
- 8:49way my a-roll video is almost ready to
- 8:51go once it's run through gling AI I'll
- 8:54show you what that looks like in a
- 8:54moment and how I import that into Final
- 8:56Cut for finishing the edit and here in
- 8:58the transcript you can cut or uncut
- 9:00anything you'd like as you can see I had
- 9:02multiple starts to this video and it
- 9:04kept the last one where I actually
- 9:05finished the start of the video and
- 9:07continued same thing here multiple takes
- 9:09and it only kept the last one it does a
- 9:11pretty good job doing this automatically
- 9:13I'll typically go in and change a few
- 9:15things and then when I'm ready I can
- 9:17export this file and because I record my
- 9:19audio separately and Boll I actually do
- 9:22a Final Cut Pro multicam clip again you
- 9:24can do this with da Vinci resolve or
- 9:26Adobe Premiere and so I'm going to do a
- 9:28final cut XML file that XML file
- 9:30downloads to my computer and now if I go
- 9:32back into Final Cut I can import that
- 9:34XML file here in my downloads folder you
- 9:37see it here and when I import it it's
- 9:39going to create a new event and a new
- 9:41project you'll see the project name and
- 9:42gling but I can actually drag this
- 9:45project to that other event which was my
- 9:47podcast tips event and then I'm going to
- 9:49delete the event that gling
- 9:50automatically created when I imported
- 9:52that XML file when I do that I still
- 9:54have the project created by gling and I
- 9:56might delete this just because I like my
- 9:58titles to be clean and the multicam clip
- 10:00generated in that project is still here
- 10:02now if I go to the project that was
- 10:04created by that XML file import you'll
- 10:06see here all the cuts are now made to my
- 10:09video all the silences are removed and
- 10:11only the best takes are kept but I still
- 10:14need to adjust the multicam clip file so
- 10:16if I double click the multicam clip
- 10:18you'll see here's my a roll now I want
- 10:20to add my b roll so I'm going to add an
- 10:22angle I'll add my b roll shot here sync
- 10:25selection to monitoring angle and now
- 10:27I'll keep everything in sync I'll add
- 10:29another angle this is going to be my
- 10:30screen grab this is from cleanshot now I
- 10:33record the audio for my screen grab
- 10:35specifically so I can sync it here in a
- 10:38final cut multicam clip and I'll add one
- 10:40more angle which was actually the audio
- 10:42that I ran through isotope rx10 here's
- 10:44my fixed audio and again I will sync
- 10:47that selection to the monitoring angle
- 10:48as well I like to name all my angles
- 10:50just for organization and quickly being
- 10:52able to refer to everything and when it
- 10:54comes to my audio track I do like to add
- 10:56a little loudness here in the Final Cut
- 10:58audio effect effect panel just brings
- 11:00that volume up a little bit without
- 11:01distorting it now that I've added all my
- 11:03angles I'll go back to the project that
- 11:04was created it still just looks like my
- 11:06multicam clip but I can select all the
- 11:08clips here in the timeline and then in
- 11:10the top right corner if I go over to the
- 11:12info tab I can actually select an active
- 11:15audio angle for all the clips at once
- 11:18you'll see here all the angles that I've
- 11:19renamed myself and if I click voice over
- 11:22now it's using the good audio file that
- 11:24I recorded across the entire project and
- 11:26if you didn't know that's where you can
- 11:28change all the Clips at once for
- 11:30instance you can just change the audio
- 11:31angle clip by clip here and if you
- 11:33select multiple and right click then you
- 11:35can't change the clips but you select
- 11:37multiple go over to the ey Tab and then
- 11:39select the audio angle you can change
- 11:41them in mass now when I did something
- 11:43like b-roll shot and screen grab I'll
- 11:46actually choose to set the angle for
- 11:47multiple clips now before I go into even
- 11:49deeper editing as you can see I'm
- 11:51definitely not looking at the camera
- 11:52right here so I don't want the a roll
- 11:54shot I'm probably doing something in the
- 11:56b roll shot so I'm going to scroll until
- 11:58I I see myself look back at the camera
- 12:01which is right about there and so I'll
- 12:02select all the Clips in that section
- 12:04where I'm looking down at the b-roll
- 12:06shot go over here to active video angle
- 12:08choose Boll and now I've automatically
- 12:11edit to that b-roll shot all the edits
- 12:13that gling made still preserve now you
- 12:15see I do need to crop this video a
- 12:17little bit and actually had to film off
- 12:18center because the light was reflecting
- 12:20in the display so if I double click and
- 12:21go into my multicam clip I'm going to
- 12:23change the monitoring angle just so I
- 12:25can preview it here I'll click the
- 12:26entire clip here in the multicam editor
- 12:29let me change the scale and positioning
- 12:31Center these phones and now that I've
- 12:33done it here in the multicam editor
- 12:35these changes will be made across the
- 12:37entire project whenever I use the b-roll
- 12:39shot probably need to adjust the
- 12:41rotation a little bit because it's a
- 12:42little offc Center but you can see all
- 12:43the edits are made and even though all
- 12:45the cuts have remained because I cropped
- 12:47the clip in the multicam editor those
- 12:49changes go across the project now I'll
- 12:51do a first pass editing this content
- 12:53changing all the angles to the b-roll as
- 12:55I need and if there's any edits that
- 12:56gling didn't catch I'll go and do all
- 12:58those after that it's adding some b-roll
- 13:00or overlays things like this quote if
- 13:02I'm making a point right here sometimes
- 13:04I'll take it from a previous project
- 13:06because it has my edits made like the
- 13:07color overlay and font these presets are
- 13:10actually from motion VFX this is from
- 13:12their M podcast pack so it allows you to
- 13:14put a little tip and text right there
- 13:16and a little nice animated in and out
- 13:18I'll put a link to this pack from motion
- 13:19VFX in the description another plug-in
- 13:21pack I use is the MKBHD plugins and one
- 13:24of my favorites is this zoom in feature
- 13:26which does a great job of just zooming
- 13:28in and then zooming back out and I can
- 13:30adjust where that Zoom is focusing on
- 13:32and how much it's zooming in and out
- 13:34very quickly and now I can create
- 13:36visually appealing zoom in and zoom out
- 13:38just by overlaying the zoom effect on
- 13:40the b-roll typically this is what a
- 13:41project will look like after I've added
- 13:43all those overlays and points maybe some
- 13:45additional b-roll from other video files
- 13:47I'll put the little subscribe and
- 13:49comment animation here at the very end
- 13:50of the video and then when I'm done I'll
- 13:52send this project to compressor to make
- 13:54an MP4 video file and upload it to
- 13:56YouTube so that's my entire talking head
- 13:58video Ed editing process from recording
- 14:00to the camera or using Riverside then
- 14:01using a tool like gling AI to quickly
- 14:03remove silences and bad takes all the
- 14:05way to adding overlays and multicam
- 14:07Clips in Final Cut if you have any
- 14:09questions on my process whether it's
- 14:11gear software apps equipment whatever
- 14:13leave a comment below this video I
- 14:14answer all of those personally I'd love
- 14:16to help you there and if you want to
- 14:17learn more about using Riverside for
- 14:19your solo recording content or video
- 14:21podcast we have great videos on the
- 14:22channel about that subscribe hit the
- 14:24like on this video and then check out
- 14:26this video up here if you want to learn
- 14:27more about the Riverside editor or if
- 14:29you need help talking about gear
- 14:30microphones and cameras this video right
- 14:32here is a great one to watch you should
- 14:34check it out thanks for tuning in I'll
- 14:35catch you in the next video
