3. 0:08Vatican they one of your jobs there as a
4. 0:11seminarian is to bring tourists through
5. 0:15the Vatican Museum and also St Peter's
6. 0:17Basilica and he gives this very
7. 0:20memorable story it's a true story that
8. 0:23he gave he gave a tour to these Japanese
9. 0:27tourist and if you've ever been to St
10. 0:29Peter's basilic you know that it is the
11. 0:32largest church in Christendom it is
12. 0:35immense and beautiful but there are
13. 0:38tourists from all walks of life that
14. 0:40come to Marvel at this Cathedral this
15. 0:45basilicum and to his knowledge none of
16. 0:47them was a Catholic or even a
17. 0:50Christian and they were no doubt there
18. 0:52to see the beautiful artwork at the
19. 0:55Vatican Museum and of course the
20. 0:57stunning beauty that is St Peter
21. 1:01the tour guide showed them the Priceless
22. 1:04works of
23. 1:05Michelangelo the sculptures of Bernini
24. 1:09the frescos and the paintings from the
25. 1:11great masters of the area of the era he
26. 1:15also pointed out to them this small
27. 1:18adoration Chapel now if you've ever been
28. 1:20to St Peter's Basilica you walk through
29. 1:21the main entrance you see to the right
30. 1:24you'll have the P that was sculpted by
31. 1:27Michelangelo and then you'll see
32. 1:30just right on the on the side of that is
33. 1:33the altar the side altar where St John
34. 1:36Paul II body is buried and then next to
35. 1:39that is the Adoration
36. 1:42chapel and he showed them this
37. 1:46chapel and he saw and they were able to
38. 1:49see there's several dozen faithful
39. 1:52kneeling in prayer this beautiful room
40. 1:55with this large
41. 1:57monstrance with this or Ador warned back
42. 2:01Altar and he explained to these Japanese
43. 2:03tourists that this was a common devotion
44. 2:06among
45. 2:07faithful to come and pray in this way to
46. 2:11spend time with the Lord in
47. 2:14adoration because our Catholic faith the
48. 2:16belief is that the Holy
49. 2:19Eucharist that in the monstrance and
50. 2:21also in the
51. 2:23Tabernacle is the Blessed Sacrament
52. 2:27Jesus Christ himself present in the UK
53. 2:30the Eternal Son of
54. 2:32God there for all to see to come pray
55. 2:36and
56. 2:38adore one of the Japanese tourists upon
57. 2:41hearing this explanation and the
58. 2:43seminarian said his eyes were just
59. 2:46amazed at all what he was saying he said
60. 2:49to them he said if this is true what
61. 2:52you're saying is
62. 2:55true then it is the most valuable thing
63. 2:58that we have seen on this tour it is it
64. 3:02is more valuable than any treasure in
65. 3:04any of these
66. 3:07buildings sometimes it takes someone
67. 3:09from outside our faith to teach us
68. 3:10something about our
69. 3:14faith as I've been preaching all of
70. 3:17these Sundays we're been reading from
71. 3:20this five week series on the bread of
72. 3:22life
73. 3:23discourse we're at the climax
74. 3:27today if you notice Jesus has
75. 3:30something so he says the word life nine
76. 3:34times in this brief
77. 3:36passage it's almost as if he wants to
78. 3:39tell us
79. 3:41something and indeed he does it's
80. 3:43something so stunning that many can't
81. 3:45understand or even believe it we see
82. 3:49here in the gospel how it says that the
83. 3:52Jews were murmuring about themselves
84. 3:54they're saying how could this man give
85. 3:56us his flesh to eat you know that if we
86. 3:58touch flesh if if we touch blood we will
87. 4:01be rendered unclean this man must be
88. 4:04crazy but he doesn't let up how many
89. 4:08times you hear in John chapter 6 this is
90. 4:11my body this is my flesh this is my
91. 4:16blood and it's interesting because when
92. 4:19you go down it's not a little bit past
93. 4:22this gospel today to verse
94. 4:2466 and it said and all who could not
95. 4:28accept or did not believe beli this
96. 4:30teaching left him verse 66 John
97. 4:37666 the sign of the
98. 4:39devil the separation from man and woman
99. 4:43from God is the evil one and so those
100. 4:47who left him because they didn't believe
101. 4:50in this
102. 4:51teaching but he's telling this crowd and
103. 4:54he's telling all of us I want to give

106. 5:00extends far beyond this Earthly life
107. 5:04just like God the Father gave your

110. 5:11Earth so in a much more glorious and
111. 5:14eternal way I will give you bread that
112. 5:16will make you live for all
113. 5:20eternity it is the gift of myself for I
114. 5:24am the bread of life it is the author of
115. 5:27Life offering to share his very self his
116. 5:30very own life with his creation think
117. 5:34about that this is who we are as
118. 5:36Catholics this is what we
119. 5:40believe it's interesting that that's the
120. 5:42opposite of what what many
121. 5:45pagans thought God or Gods would be or
122. 5:49how our gods are supposed to
123. 5:52act do you remember from your Greek
124. 5:54mythology you're all students I hope you
125. 5:57remember the story of Prometheus
126. 6:00he was the guy that stole from fire from
127. 6:03Mount Olympus and what did he do he
128. 6:05stole the fire and he gave it to this
129. 6:07God to gave it to
130. 6:09Man Fire was something that belonged to
131. 6:12the gods and they were jealous of it
132. 6:15they didn't want to share their fire
133. 6:17they in fact they didn't want to share
134. 6:18anything with man
135. 6:21Humanity the Greek gods were basically
136. 6:23spoiled brats who didn't want to share
137. 6:26their toys expect these brats were all
138. 6:29all powerful and all
139. 6:33Immortal Prometheus stole fire and gave
140. 6:35it to man and as you might remember he
141. 6:38was punished for it he was punished for
142. 6:41all eternity in the most bizarre and
143. 6:43brutal
144. 6:45way notice the
145. 6:48contrast between the god of Jesus Christ
146. 6:51God is not
147. 6:54jealous he's not jealous of his life or
148. 6:56his
149. 6:57possessions quite the cont he wants to
150. 7:00share it with his
151. 7:02creation and if you read a few chapters
152. 7:05down in in the Gospel of John in chapter
153. 7:0810:10 Jesus says I came so that you
154. 7:11might have life and have it in
155. 7:14abundance that's who our God
156. 7:17is and the Holy Eucharist is the gift
157. 7:20par excellance of his life the first
158. 7:23fruits and the pledge of eternal life
159. 7:25with him freely giving it to us to those
160. 7:28who believe what does Jesus say say to
161. 7:29us he says I will be with you until the
162. 7:32end of
163. 7:34times our only response is to humbly to
164. 7:38humbly with and with God's help receive
165. 7:41this most precious gift with
166. 7:46gratitude this gift of the
167. 7:50Eucharist helps us to belong to one
168. 7:55another share your Catholic faith as
169. 7:58students be proud of who you are know

178. 8:26visited in the hospital some years ago
179. 8:30among my favorite masses during the year

181. 8:34Mass it's always one of my favorites to
182. 8:36see all these little kids dressed up in
183. 8:38white and if you talk to them I always
184. 8:41ask them are you ready for first
185. 8:42communion do you want to receive Jesus
186. 8:44in the Eucharist they're so excited and
187. 8:47maybe you remember the day that you
188. 8:49received your first
189. 8:51communion they're all dressed up nervous
190. 8:53and anxious to receive je Jesus in the
191. 8:56Holy Eucharist for the very first time
192. 8:58but equ equally moving for me are those
193. 9:01times when I give communion to those who
194. 9:04are
195. 9:05dying can't tell you how many times I've
196. 9:07been at the bedside of someone who is
197. 9:10dying and they know they're dying and
198. 9:13they want to receive
199. 9:15Jesus such was a case of this one woman
200. 9:17who called me to herself requesting to
201. 9:20see a
202. 9:21priest very ill in a lot of
203. 9:25pain she was at the level now that they
204. 9:27were going to start increasing her
205. 9:31morphine which is often a sign that the
206. 9:34end is
207. 9:36approaching I went to her and gave her
208. 9:38her last rights and it included Holy
209. 9:41Eucharist communion
210. 9:45viaticum and when I placed the host on
211. 9:47her
212. 9:48tongue She burst into
213. 9:52tears I thought she was in
214. 9:54pain but it was tears of gratitude she
215. 9:58just kept saying thank you Jesus thank
216. 10:01you for visiting me Jesus thank you for
217. 10:04coming to me Jesus she could hardly chew
218. 10:06or swallow the hostes because she was
219. 10:09sobbing and all she kept saying is thank
220. 10:11you Jesus I love you Jesus I've never
221. 10:15I've rarely seen anything like that such
222. 10:19an example of
223. 10:21Faith especially on the on your
224. 10:24deathbed when I think of her now
225. 10:26enjoying for all eternity the joys of
226. 10:28heaven with Christ Christ in whom she
227. 10:30had such faith I'm filled with great joy
228. 10:33myself with
229. 10:35hope this is where I want to get you to
230. 10:39this is where Father Mario wants to get
231. 10:41you to to a level of such gratitude and
232. 10:44love for the for the for Jesus in the
233. 10:47Eucharist where you don't feel alone
234. 10:50where you don't feel abandoned where
235. 10:51your troubles and and your past can go
236. 10:54to the side and where you only see Jesus
237. 10:57and you know that you belong and you
238. 10:58belong here because Christ tells us I am
239. 11:02the bread of life I Am With You Always
240. 11:06whoever eats my flesh and drinks my
241. 11:09blood has eternal life and I will raise
242. 11:11them up on the last day that's the
243. 11:13promise that he makes to us those who
244. 11:15are
245. 11:17faithful every time we approach the
246. 11:19altar to receive this great gift of
247. 11:23God's son in the Holy Eucharist it's
248. 11:26sharing in his very life in the life of
249. 11:29God
250. 11:30life that he's freely given to us and so
251. 11:33my brothers and sisters as we begin this
252. 11:35New Year know that Christ wants to to be
253. 11:39with
254. 11:40you and as we approach him with
255. 11:42gratitude for this gift for it is as
256. 11:46that Japanese tour said the most
257. 11:48valuable of all the treasures in the
258. 11:51world the greatest gift that God has
259. 11:54given us is his son Jesus Christ present
260. 11:57in the Eucharist amen
