Turning any object into an early 2000s videogame asset — Transcript

- 0:00Do you ever wonder how older games
- 0:01[music] did their models? They look so
- 0:04nice yet so simple. I wondered [music]
- 0:06about that for a while during my journey
- 0:08with 3D art. And after a while, I
- 0:11actually found a simple way of making
- 0:12these old photo texture [music] models
- 0:14look amazing. After I posted some of the
- 0:17models I have made on Twitter, a [music]
- 0:19lot of people were asking me how I did
- 0:21it. And while I kind of found this as a
- 0:23good excuse to make something I've
- 0:25always wanted to do, a YouTube video.
- 0:27[music] So before we start on this, I
- 0:29just want to be clear that I'm really
- 0:31hesitant to call this [music] a tutorial
- 0:33because I really do kind of suck at
- 0:35explaining, but hopefully it's still
- 0:37really useful for a lot of you who are
- 0:39wondering on what [music] my process
- 0:40looks like. I also wanted to mention
- 0:42that the files for this model and a lot
- 0:44of other things I've made [music] can be
- 0:46found on my Patreon along with a Discord
- 0:48server invite where you can ask me
- 0:50[music] anything and discuss about
- 0:52anything related. And well, without
- 0:54further ado, let's get started.
- 0:57For this video, I will be modeling this
- 0:59radio [music] I had laying around in my
- 1:01house. I thought its shape was very
- 1:03straightforward and that I could take
- 1:05photo textures out of [music] it easily.
- 1:07So, the first thing I did was to bring
- 1:09that radio into a place with nice
- 1:11lighting and got a hold of the nicest
- 1:13camera I had available. [music] In my
- 1:15case, I have a really good DSLR camera
- 1:17with a flash, but you might not have
- 1:20that. You can totally use something like
- 1:22your phone. Just make sure you [music]
- 1:23are taking photos in the highest
- 1:25resolution available because the more
- 1:27details we can make out of these photos,
- 1:28the easier it's going to be for us to
- 1:30model things out of it.
- 1:33Now that we have our camera and our
- 1:34[music] object on some nice lighting
- 1:36conditions, we can just start taking
- 1:38photos of all its sides by just moving
- 1:40it around. In this case, [music] since
- 1:42the radio is just very blocky, we should
- 1:44be fine by just taking pictures of its
- 1:46six sides.
- 1:49And now that we have the photos of our
- 1:50object, we can go ahead and put them
- 1:52into a photo editing program on a
- 1:54computer. In this case, I'm using
- 1:56Critter because it's free.
- 1:58Because the photos are really high
- 2:00resolution, [music] I just open one of
- 2:02them so that the canvas could just take
- 2:03its size and then I just imported the
- 2:06other images into the file. Now, what we
- 2:09[music] want to do is clean up our
- 2:10pictures. We're going to get rid of as
- 2:12much of the background as we can. In
- 2:15this case, I just used the eraser. And
- 2:16once I was finished erasing [music] the
- 2:18background from all the photos, I moved
- 2:20them around to fit properly in the
- 2:21canvas. Make sure they're all roughly
- 2:24the [music] same size in relation to
- 2:25each other. Once finished, we can just
- 2:27export our image. Make sure we keep a
- 2:30really high resolution. [music] This
- 2:31image is going to be both our reference
- 2:33for modeling and our textures to project
- 2:35onto the model. Here's how I did it. All
- 2:38right, so [music] first things first,
- 2:40we're going to want to import our image
- 2:42texture that we made [music] as a
- 2:44reference plane here. So, as you can see
- 2:47in this video, I just import that and
- 2:48then I scaled it down to an acceptable
- 2:50[music] size. As you can see, I'm using
- 2:52like a a male model reference
- 2:55as to get an idea for the scale. So,
- 2:59that that's kind of helpful. It doesn't
- 3:01have to be perfect. Uh none of this has
- 3:03to be perfect. In fact, you just most of
- 3:06this is just like making sure stuff
- 3:10lines up correctly. As you can see here,
- 3:13I'm just lining up the edges with the
- 3:15edges of our, you know, of the object
- 3:18and the image. And this is very helpful
- 3:20if your image is like a high resolution.
- 3:22That's why I told you guys at the
- 3:24beginning that the higher the
- 3:25resolution, the better. So, as you can
- 3:28see here, I'm just making sure
- 3:30everything lines up roughly. You know,
- 3:33it doesn't have to be perfect. But, you
- 3:35know, you got to make your you got to do
- 3:37your best to line stuff up.
- 3:44>> [music]
- 3:47>> And well, here I'm adding some edge
- 3:50loops in some of the places that I see
- 3:52um are [music] prominent in the object
- 3:55of our image. In this case, the radio,
- 3:57right? Um on this like little edges that
- 4:01it [music] has, I'm just adding some
- 4:02edge loops so that I can extrude it.
- 4:04Well, not really extruded, but like move
- 4:06it out [music] and make it have that
- 4:09shape.
- 4:12[music]
- 4:18[music]
- 4:19And well, as you can see here, I decided
- 4:21to use a mirror modifier. So, I just
- 4:23like split my object into like the into
- 4:26halves [music] and then I just used an a
- 4:28mirror modifier to make things easier
- 4:30for me because I realized most of this
- 4:32is kind of symmetrical at least for the
- 4:34beginning. I I didn't really use it uh
- 4:37for the whole thing.
- 4:42Like I'm just using it to make things
- 4:45easier for me really. [music]
- 4:49And as you can see here, I'm duplicating
- 4:51the reference and lining it up. Once
- 4:53again, we just like most of this is just
- 4:55lining stuff up. We line it up with um
- 4:58with the image. Make sure like things
- 5:01make sense basically. And
- 5:05we just put it in like a a better place.
- 5:08Just move it out back. And then I start
- 5:10working working on the knobs.
- 5:13And well, as you can see with the knobs,
- 5:15I kind of realized it wasn't fully
- 5:17centered. So, I kind of moved it around
- 5:18a little bit more and [music] I just
- 5:21corrected some corrected some normals
- 5:23for the knobs and you know, just lined
- 5:25it up. It's all lining it up, baby. I I
- 5:29[music] don't know why I said that, but
- 5:31yeah, it's all about lining stuff up.
- 5:35[music]
- 5:43And yeah, a lot of this is basic
- 5:45modeling. You you do have to, you know,
- 5:47you got to have some basic modeling
- 5:48skills. This is not crazy. I'm just
- 5:51making sure it like kind of looks like
- 5:53what it actually looks like IRL. I kind
- 5:55of extruded that stuff a little out
- 5:57back. Uh it doesn't have to be perfect
- 5:59modeling. By the way, I I think I'm
- 6:01repeating that a lot that it doesn't
- 6:02have to be perfect, but that's true
- 6:04because with objects like this, the the
- 6:07textures do the the heavy lifting. like
- 6:10what if you have a good textures, you're
- 6:12gonna have a good asset, I think, for
- 6:14this kind of [music] um style we're
- 6:16going for. Anyways, we're lining up uh
- 6:19the back of this.
- 6:22And yeah, we're just adding some edge
- 6:24loops on that little um thing that it's
- 6:28intruding on the actual object IRL.
- 6:31[music]
- 6:35>> [music]
- 6:38>> The reason I'm doing that is because it
- 6:41just adds a little bit more detail
- 6:42because we're going to we're going to
- 6:44use a substance painter later for this.
- 6:47And when you're using the ambient
- 6:49occlusion, it's really going to make
- 6:50things look a lot prettier, especially
- 6:52in like the little crevices and that
- 6:53stuff. Okay, as you can see here, I'm
- 6:56shading it smooth and I'm adding some uh
- 6:59loop cuts so that
- 7:01uh it doesn't look all weird.
- 7:04But uh I will say uh I I kind of like I
- 7:08didn't really do my best here. Uh I
- 7:10added a lot of edges. [music] That's
- 7:12probably not good for um poly count if
- 7:15you really care about that stuff. I
- 7:17mean, it's still an acceptable [music]
- 7:18poly count really, but since we're
- 7:20making like a PS2 style asset, this
- 7:23would obviously not fly [music] in a in
- 7:25an actual PS2 game. So if you really
- 7:29care about polyc count, don't do this. I
- 7:31I I would actually recommend like just
- 7:34going with an auto smooth [music] for
- 7:35the knobs and then applying it and you
- 7:38know joining the knobs back together to
- 7:41the actual flat mesh.
- 7:43And well, I think I just like kind of
- 7:45got carried away here. So yeah, it's a
- 7:48bit of a mistake in my part, I'd say.
- 7:50Anyways, here I'm adding more edge loops
- 7:52on the details of that little screen
- 7:54there. And I'm [music] just um extruding
- 7:57along normals.
- 7:59And then I inserted the faces so that
- 8:01the the normals don't look all all
- 8:04[music] weird due to the um smooth
- 8:07shading.
- 8:09Well, I'm looking around the model. Then
- 8:12I add some edge loops there to make that
- 8:13stuff the edges there a bit more
- 8:16prominent.
- 8:18[music] And now here I just apply the
- 8:20same texture that we're using on the
- 8:21reference plane which is just like our
- 8:23image textures. And now it's time for,
- 8:27you know, projecting from view and
- 8:29lining stuff up. This is the fun part.
- 8:31Well, kind of the fun part. I think the
- 8:32whole texturing process is the fun part
- 8:35of all of this. So, as you can see, I
- 8:39have my object selected, and I'm
- 8:41basically just going to UV project from
- 8:42view.
- 9:06Um, yeah, just line stuff up. A lot of
- 9:09this texturing is just lining stuff up
- 9:11really on this base image that we're
- 9:15using. We're we're going to bake it
- 9:16later. And when you're lining stuff up,
- 9:19you you got to make sure, this is very
- 9:21important, you got to make sure you have
- 9:22no it's all just the object. You don't
- 9:25want to have some of the background
- 9:26picking up on your UVs because then it
- 9:29really is going to take away the the
- 9:32effect. So you if you are not careful
- 9:35and you have some of the background,
- 9:37it's better to just um have less of the
- 9:40object to cut a little bit of the object
- 9:42than to have uh a little more and
- 9:43[music] have the background show because
- 9:45that that's really bad in my opinion. So
- 9:48just be careful with that.
- 10:07>> [music]
- 10:08>> As you can see there, I noticed that
- 10:10little thing I didn't model. So, I just
- 10:11quickly added a cube and then projected
- 10:15the textures on the cube. So, yeah, I'm
- 10:18just [music] going to let this play out.
- 10:21And
- 10:24[music] yeah, as you can see, I'm making
- 10:25the cube there, and then I'm just
- 10:27putting it there on the model in a place
- 10:28that makes sense. And then I just
- 10:30project the textures [music] on the
- 10:32cube.
- 10:34And now you have like the USB ports
- 10:36[music] all flat and nice.
- 10:40Okay. And we're just making sure it
- 10:41lines up properly. And you're you're
- 10:44going to see some um [music]
- 10:46uh how do you say it? You're going to
- 10:48see some stretched uh textures, but we
- 10:51can fix that later with uh [music] cube
- 10:53projection and just cube projecting it.
- 10:56selecting those faces and just few
- 10:58projecting them in a in a place that
- 11:00make kind [music] of makes sense.
- 11:03In this case, I'm just using the um that
- 11:06little dark part of the image [music]
- 11:10texture of our object and it looks good.
- 11:13So,
- 11:15[music]
- 11:19that's now we're done with the front.
- 11:21Now, we're going to do the sides. It's
- 11:22the same process. So, as you can see, I
- 11:24just selected uh the co-planer faces and
- 11:26then I selected those faces at the
- 11:28bottom and select them by co-planner
- 11:30tool.
- 11:32Uh, and we just line stuff up. That's
- 11:36basically all of the all this is. It's
- 11:38just lining stuff up. Especially here,
- 11:41we're using um I'm using mostly just um
- 11:45the knobs as reference of how centered
- 11:48and perfect it is.
- 11:50So, I kind of took my time here.
- 11:55It's It's important to take [music] your
- 11:57time on this because you really don't
- 11:58want to have some leaking going on.
- 12:02You want to you want to sell the effect.
- 12:08[music]
- 12:09I'd say this is already looking kind of
- 12:11good really. I mean, look at that. Now
- 12:15we just um here on the on the sides of
- 12:18the knobs I just projected [music] from
- 12:19view and then I selected the knobs there
- 12:21on the UV island lens and then put them
- 12:23on the on the front [music] view where
- 12:26we can see the knobs on our image
- 12:27texture. And because I selected the
- 12:30whole thing, it kind of mirrors on the
- 12:32back and it looks good. It goes all the
- 12:34way around.
- 12:37And now we're doing the other side. And
- 12:39here I actually didn't really like how
- 12:42it turned out. So I kind of went down
- 12:43later and changed [music] it. you you'll
- 12:45see that. But, uh, yeah, I was just kind
- 12:48of making sure it lines up and, you
- 12:50know,
- 12:55all right, [music] we have the front and
- 12:56the sides now.
- 12:58Now, we I'm doing the top here. [music]
- 13:01And as you can see, same stuff, lining
- 13:04stuff up, making it [music] make sense.
- 13:06And in this case, you can see I'm using
- 13:08some guidance on the buttons, especially
- 13:11because you really want things to line
- 13:13[music] up. If if they're not lining up,
- 13:15you're going to end up with an asset
- 13:16that looks kind of bad. So, that's the
- 13:19that's the lesson of this video. Line
- 13:20things up, bro.
- 13:23Look at that. Look at the buttons. Yep.
- 13:25[music] I'm just moving them around,
- 13:27making sure they look good
- 13:30or acceptable at least. It doesn't have
- 13:32to be perfect. Again,
- 13:35there I saw a little bit of um of weird
- 13:39leaking. So, I just kind of um
- 13:42stretch the faces so that it look good.
- 13:44Here, I'm just putting the antenna,
- 13:46which is whatever. I mean, it's not
- 13:47going to be I'm actually going to go out
- 13:49and model [music] the antenna
- 13:51physically. And because it's going to be
- 13:53there like laying down, it's actually
- 13:56gonna all the textures be below it or
- 14:00surrounding it are going to be occluded
- 14:01by the ambient occlusion in Substance
- 14:02Painter. So that's good. So it's going
- 14:05to hide this second antenna on the
- 14:07texture and people are not going to
- 14:08notice. Anyways, here I'm selecting the
- 14:11back and you know going to project this
- 14:16from [music] view too. So,
- 14:24and here I'm making sure uh things line
- 14:27up, but especially that little um
- 14:29extrusion that we have there.
- 14:32I want I really want that to line up.
- 14:33So, I just move the textures of the
- 14:35inside around
- 14:37so that I know there's no leaking on
- 14:39[music] the outside on like the top part
- 14:42of it and it's just the inside and I saw
- 14:44it looked good. So, I [music] just left
- 14:45it like that. And yeah, yeah, the model
- 14:47looks really acceptable now. It looks
- 14:49kind of cool. Now we just need the
- 14:50bottom. So, same process [music] for for
- 14:54all the faces. Oh, by the way, yeah,
- 14:56here I'm just um keep projecting there.
- 14:59I saw some leaking. Look, that's the
- 15:01thing I'm I'm talking about. [music] You
- 15:02don't want to have any leaking on your
- 15:04texture. So, here I just selected the
- 15:06parts of that were affected UV [music]
- 15:07and I just
- 15:09um reproed them and scaled them around.
- 15:12You you really don't want [music] the
- 15:13background on your objects. And there
- 15:15I'm actually lining up the the lines of
- 15:18that little thing on the radio. You you
- 15:21see like the lines are continuous from
- 15:23the back to the sides. I'm lining them
- 15:25up. Well, not yet, but you'll see that I
- 15:28[music] will start lining lining them up
- 15:30and I cannot get obsessed with it. Yeah,
- 15:33those are already lined up. I really got
- 15:35like crazy with it on the other side.
- 15:37Yeah, [music] because they were not
- 15:38lined up at all.
- 15:40And yeah, and you can see there's like a
- 15:44little discontinuation on the lines
- 15:45there. So, I just [music] thought it
- 15:47didn't make sense. So, I just uh
- 15:48stretched the faces there and made them
- 15:50connect.
- 15:52And now I'm [music] just lining that
- 15:53thing those lines up.
- 16:06Here, I just reproed the side because I
- 16:09really didn't like how it [music] looked
- 16:10like. Then I rotated around a little
- 16:13because because it wasn't really lined
- 16:15up on the image itself.
- 16:18And well, it's looking really nice
- 16:20already.
- 16:28Here, I'm going to make the antenna.
- 16:32And I'm just going to project that stuff
- 16:34from view. [music] And the antenna is
- 16:35just literally a cube really. It's a
- 16:37cylinder that I turned into a cube for
- 16:39some reason. And it's shaded smooth so
- 16:42that it looks like um you cannot see the
- 16:44sides. You cannot see like the flat
- 16:47lighting. I shaded smooth.
- 16:50And yeah, [music] I just projected from
- 16:51view and it looks good. Looks like an
- 16:53acceptable antenna for this radio.
- 16:57I moved around the UVs there so that
- 16:59they tried to tried to make them look
- 17:02like it like connects, but I didn't like
- 17:04how it turned out. [music] So, I just
- 17:06undid that. Now, at the bottom, same
- 17:09[music] stuff. And because no one's
- 17:10really going to see it, I I really
- 17:12didn't pay much attention to it. I just
- 17:13made sure it looked kind of good.
- 17:17So, there it is. I think this is
- 17:19basically
- 17:21the first part of our texturing process.
- 17:23All done. It looks good now.
- 17:27So we can go ahead and bake the
- 17:28textures.
- 17:33Okay, as you can see here, I made a new
- 17:35material which I applied to the whole
- 17:37entire object. This material was just an
- 17:39image texture with um color grid
- 17:42generated.
- 17:44And
- 17:45it's a 148x 148 texture, I think. No,
- 17:48128 by 128. And I applied it to the
- 17:52whole entire [music] object. And I made
- 17:54a second UV map. So, this is important
- 17:56for baking. In case you don't know about
- 17:58baking in Blender, you need the first UV
- 18:01map, which is like the one the render is
- 18:03going to see, which is like all those
- 18:04textures that we were lining up earlier.
- 18:07And the second UV map is going to be our
- 18:09unwrapped um [music] object. So, we're
- 18:13going to go ahead and manually unwrap
- 18:15this thing. And [music] that's going to
- 18:16be our second UV map where the bake is
- 18:18going to go to. So, as you can see here,
- 18:21I'm just adding our seams. And it's
- 18:25basic UV unwrapping. So, if you know the
- 18:27deal, you know the deal. [music]
- 18:30We're adding seams on the sharp edges,
- 18:34making sure everything's properly
- 18:36unwrapped, and I'll get back to you when
- 18:37I'm done.
- 18:50[music]
- 18:56>> [music]
- 19:01[music]
- 19:17[music]
- 19:23[music]
- 19:30[music]
- 19:36[music]
- 19:40[music]
- 19:47>> As you can see here, I think I uh
- 19:49finished addit adding my seams. So, I
- 19:51just unwrapped [music] the things. Uh
- 19:52made sure the textual density was nice,
- 19:58like how much space it takes on the UV
- 20:00map. And I'm just um making sure some
- 20:03similar faces are the same sides. For
- 20:05example, the side there, I actually like
- 20:08forgot to add the seam there. So, I just
- 20:09had to unwrap again by angle. I think I
- 20:13unwrap by angle. Yeah, angle based on
- 20:16wrap. And now with that unwrap, I'm just
- 20:19going to select the faces that are
- 20:20similar. Again, make sure they're the
- 20:23same size. In this case, like that
- 20:25little extrusion and the extrusion of
- 20:28the screen at [music] the front, I made
- 20:29them the same size, the back and the
- 20:31front the same size, the sides the same
- 20:34size, but I think they're already the
- 20:35same size because I mean, they're
- 20:37[music] kind of like perfectly
- 20:39symmetrical. So, the unwrap already
- 20:41automatically new. [music]
- 20:44Uh, yeah. So in this case, you just want
- 20:47to change the size of the things you
- 20:49want to have the most resolution and the
- 20:51[music] things that you want to have uh
- 20:53less resolution.
- 20:57[music]
- 21:04[music]
- 21:11[music]
- 21:13And yeah, once everything is to a a good
- 21:17scale that takes up a good amount of
- 21:20space in [music] the UV map, you can go
- 21:22ahead and pack the textures so that
- 21:24Blender puts them all together as best
- 21:26as possible inside the UV space while
- 21:29retaining the [music] space, you know,
- 21:31that you scaled up and down on the
- 21:33different islands. [music]
- 21:39All right. Something very important to
- 21:41note here is to add a margin to our um
- 21:43UV islands. This is to prevent any
- 21:45leaking once we downscale our textures
- 21:48because the final product is going to be
- 21:49like a 2048 texture which is really kind
- 21:52of against the whole PS2 thing. We're
- 21:54probably going to downscale that to like
- 21:56512. And to prevent any leaking, so
- 21:59[music] that means that any weird part
- 22:02of the texture is going to like invade
- 22:03the other island space, we going to have
- 22:06to add a margin so that everything is
- 22:08like safely placed on the UV islands and
- 22:11we prevent any leaking. [music] So,
- 22:13so basically what this means, uh, you
- 22:15don't want any islands to be touching
- 22:17each other. So, margin prevents that.
- 22:20And well, we already packed our [music]
- 22:21islands and I think those are the UVs. I
- 22:24think we're already finished here.
- 22:27>> [music]
- 22:33[music]
- 23:09>> And as you can see, I deleted the um the
- 23:12grid textures because I [music] didn't
- 23:13really need them anymore. And you're
- 23:16going to see uh the all the warp
- 23:18textures there. That's good. We don't
- 23:19want we don't want to use the the main
- 23:22UV map that we're going to use for
- 23:23baking. This is the one [music] that's
- 23:24going to be baked into. So, this is
- 23:27fully normal. Don't worry about it.
- 23:37Oh, here uh on the material I'm making a
- 23:39new image texture [music] and I'm going
- 23:41to make it um
- 23:43a nice resolution so that we can work
- 23:45with it properly later. I'm going to
- 23:48make it 2048 [music] by 2048. And I'm
- 23:50going to call it bake map or bake
- 23:53texture, I think I call it. I don't
- 23:55know. I really cannot see the video
- 23:57right now. Anyways, uh once we make the
- 24:00image texture, we make sure it's
- 24:01selected because that's going to be the
- 24:03texture [music] that we're going to be
- 24:04baking into. Oh, as you can see here, I
- 24:06kind of make made a mistake and put a
- 24:08color grid on it. We don't want to do
- 24:09that. We want it to be empty. Uh, I
- 24:11mean, I think there's no problem in
- 24:13having like some stuff, but just to
- 24:16prevent any issues. I just like it to
- 24:17have nothing. It's So, make sure you
- 24:19have blank selected. Again, 2048 x 248.
- 24:22We want plenty of resolution [music] to
- 24:24work with.
- 24:25And yeah, make sure it's selected. Make
- 24:28sure your object is selected. And make
- 24:31sure you're seeing the the normal UVs.
- 24:34mixture. Well, not the normal UVs, but
- 24:36the first UVs that we have, the ones
- 24:38that are not for the bake, the ones that
- 24:40are like really shitty and not unwrapped
- 24:42and that we did project from views.
- 24:45Make sure we are seeing those. Make sure
- 24:46we have the object selected. Make sure
- 24:48we have the image selected, the image we
- 24:50want to bake our textures into. And we
- 24:53just choose diffuse on the bake because
- 24:55that's all we really need here. Uh, no
- 24:57direct or indirect lighting so that it's
- 24:59just the plain texture.
- 25:02And we're ready to bake. As you can see,
- 25:04make sure the camera is ticked on the
- 25:05first UV map, but not on the second one.
- 25:08And make sure the second one is the one
- 25:09selected. [music]
- 25:11And yeah, we can just bake already. And
- 25:14it's one is going to take its time.
- 25:17That's okay. Just let it cook. And as
- 25:21you can see, we have some beautiful
- 25:22textures there on our bake. A nice 2048
- 25:26uh by 2048 texture of a radio. So
- 25:31now we have our baked textures and make
- 25:33sure you save that image texture um
- 25:35somewhere because if you blender for
- 25:37some reason crashes or you close it,
- 25:39you're going to lose the texture [music]
- 25:40if it's not protected. So
- 25:45[music]
- 25:55[music]
- 26:05>> [music]
- 26:23[music]
- 26:25>> as you T on the export and just make
- 26:27sure our object is selected and I'm
- 26:29[music] exporting as an OBJ. Uh make
- 26:32sure it's tick to selection only and we
- 26:34export it into any soft um in this case
- 26:38I use substance painter but you can you
- 26:40can do anything you're familiar with or
- 26:42anything that's free really because it's
- 26:43kind of expensive. Uh we bake our object
- 26:47inside our texturing software [music]
- 26:49and then we can start adding our our
- 26:52baked texture. [music] So, in Substance
- 26:55Painter, I just make sure it's uh set as
- 26:57a texture. I add it to the project
- 26:59[music] and then I put it on to fill the
- 27:01whole UV tile and it looks really nice.
- 27:05And [music] I just turn off everything
- 27:06because I just work with the color
- 27:08textures. And I actually set the view
- 27:11port to be only the [music] the base
- 27:13color so it's not affected by any
- 27:14lighting. As you can see, I'm just
- 27:16adding some really nice details [music]
- 27:19like dirt with ambient occlusion. I
- 27:22adjust all of that a little bit.
- 27:25Okay, it looks nice. That's the thing
- 27:27with the antenna. I said like we're not
- 27:28really going to see the textures up
- 27:29there because it's going to be oluded by
- 27:31the antenna.
- 27:34Now, I just added this really cool
- 27:36material I found by another YouTuber
- 27:39that I found that was talking about
- 27:40texturing low poly models in Substance
- 27:43Painter. I'll leave that video down in
- 27:44the description because it's really
- 27:46helpful and I got that shader from that
- 27:48guy. So, shout out to that guy.
- 27:51Uh here I just make sure it's
- 27:55it's set to multiply.
- 28:02Anyways, here I added u I think it was a
- 28:04metal edgeware texture and I'm just
- 28:07adjusting all of it so that it looks
- 28:08[music] kind of nice.
- 28:17[music]
- 28:23>> [music]
- 28:32[music]
- 28:40[music]
- 28:41>> And then on those uh on the black mask
- 28:43that I added, I actually paint uh I
- 28:46paint some parts black on places where
- 28:50it wouldn't make sense to have that like
- 28:52little dirt and smudges. So, for
- 28:54example, the buttons at the top, I just
- 28:56went down went with the [music] brush
- 28:58with a brush and set it to the black
- 29:00color and started painting those away,
- 29:01those details away. And as you can see
- 29:04here, I'm kind of messing with the
- 29:06different blending modes I can set to
- 29:08the stylized lighting, but I just landed
- 29:10on multiply because I think it's the
- 29:11best one for this. I did make a mistake.
- 29:14I should have messed with the opacity
- 29:16because now the whole bottom is going to
- 29:18be practically black and I didn't really
- 29:22want that. But that's that's whatever.
- 29:23No one's really going to look at the
- 29:24bottom. Anyways, when exporting, make
- 29:27sure you only have the base color
- 29:28selected. Export into the project file
- 29:31or whatever you want. [music]
- 29:33And yeah, that's basically all of it.
- 29:35you're going to see your really nice
- 29:36textures all exported in a single base
- 29:39color image that we can then just use in
- 29:41Blender or any software [music] really
- 29:44because we already finished our mesh.
- 29:48Okay. So now in Blender we just um we
- 29:50can just add our textures really to our
- 29:53material.
- 29:55final textures after Substance Painter.
- 29:58[music]
- 30:06And as you can see, it looks very,
- 30:08[music] very nice.
- 30:10This is ready to be downscaled to like a
- 30:12512 texture. And you can [music] use
- 30:14this in any indie game you want or
- 30:16whatever. It's really, it looks really
- 30:19pretty. And you can [music] do this with
- 30:21any object you want. This is a really
- 30:23good texturing technique.
- 30:25is using two bakings. The one for the
- 30:27one in Blender and the second one in
- 30:29Substance Painter. So, it's really nice.
- 30:32I actually don't think there's two
- 30:33baking. I think it's just one baking and
- 30:35then like you mess with the bake inside
- 30:37Substance [music] Painter. Anyways,
- 30:39yeah, that's it for this video. I hope
- 30:42you learned something. I'm I'm kind of
- 30:44bad at explaining things. I cannot talk
- 30:45too fast sometimes. If you have any
- 30:48doubts, uh don't be afraid [music] of
- 30:49leaving a comment down below and I'll
- 30:51try to explain stuff.
- 30:54And yeah, there's also a Discord server
- 30:56in my Patreon which you can join [music]
- 30:58and just um ask me anything about all of
- 31:00this. And yeah, thanks for watching.
