  1. 0:02good evening thank you guys for coming i
  2. 0:05know our fish first official press
  3. 0:07briefing is going to be on Monday but I
  4. 0:08wanted to give you a few updates on the
  5. 0:09president's activities but before I get
  6. 0:12to the news of the day I think I'd like
  7. 0:14to discuss a little bit of the coverage
  8. 0:15of the past 24 hours yesterday at a time
  9. 0:18when our nation in the world was
  10. 0:20watching the peaceful transition of
  11. 0:21power and as the president said the
  12. 0:24transition and the balance of power from
  13. 0:25Washington's to the citizens of the
  14. 0:27United States remember some members of
  15. 0:29the media were engaged in deliberately
  16. 0:31false reporting for all the talk about
  17. 0:34the proper use of Twitter two instances
  18. 0:36yesterday stand out one was a
  19. 0:39particularly egregious example in which
  20. 0:41a reporter falsely tweeted out that the
  21. 0:44bust of Martin Luther King jr. had been
  22. 0:46removed from the oval office after was
  23. 0:49pointed out that this was just plain
  24. 0:51wrong the reporter casually reported and
  25. 0:54tweeted out and tried to claim that a
  26. 0:56secret service must agent must have just
  27. 0:57been standing in front of it this was
  28. 1:00irresponsible and reckless secondly
  29. 1:04photographs of the inaugural proceedings
  30. 1:06were intentionally framed in a way in
  31. 1:08one particular tweet to minimize the
  32. 1:11enormous support that had gathered on
  33. 1:12the National Mall this was the first
  34. 1:14time in our nation's history that floor
  35. 1:17coverings have been used to protect the
  36. 1:18grass in the mall that had the effect of
  37. 1:21highlighting any areas where people were
  38. 1:22not standing while in years past the
  39. 1:25grass eliminated this visual this was
  40. 1:27also the first time that fencing and
  41. 1:30magnetometers when his far back on the
  42. 1:32wall preventing hundreds of thousands of
  43. 1:33people from being able to access them
  44. 1:36all as quickly as they had in
  45. 1:37inaugurations passed in accurate numbers
  46. 1:40involving crowd size were also tweeted
  47. 1:42no one had numbers because the National
  48. 1:46Park Service which controls the National
  49. 1:48Mall does not put any out by the way
  50. 1:51this applies to any attempts to try to
  51. 1:53count the number of protesters today in
  52. 1:55the same fashion we do know a few things
  53. 1:57so let's go through the facts we know
  54. 1:59that from the platform where the
  55. 2:01president was sworn into fourth Street
  56. 2:03holds about 250,000 people from fourth
  57. 2:06Street to the media tent is about
  58. 2:07another 220,000 and from the media tent
  59. 2:10to the Washington Monument another
  60. 2:12another 250
  61. 2:13thousand people all of this space was
  62. 2:16full when the president took the oath of
  63. 2:18office we know that 420,000 people use
  64. 2:21the DC metro public transit yesterday
  65. 2:24which is actually compares to 317,000
  66. 2:27that used it for President Obama's last
  67. 2:30inaugural this was the largest audience
  68. 2:32to ever witness an inauguration period
  69. 2:35both in person and around the globe even
  70. 2:38the New York Times printed a frittata
  71. 2:40graph showing the that a
  72. 2:43misrepresentation of the crowd and the
  73. 2:45original tweet in their paper which
  74. 2:47showed the full extent of the support
  75. 2:49depth and crowd and intensity that
  76. 2:51existed these attempts to lessen the
  77. 2:53enthusiasm of the inauguration are
  78. 2:55shameful and wrong the president was
  79. 2:58also at the center of you know the
  80. 3:00president was at the Central
  81. 3:01Intelligence Agency today and greeted by
  82. 3:03a raucous overflow crowd of some 400
  83. 3:06plus CIA employees there were over a
  84. 3:08thousand requests to attend prompting
  85. 3:11the President to note that we'll have to
  86. 3:12come back to greet the rest the
  87. 3:14employees were ecstatic that he's the
  88. 3:16new commander-in-chief and he delivered
  89. 3:18them in a powerful an important message
  90. 3:20he told them he has their back and they
  91. 3:24were grateful for that they gave him a
  92. 3:26five minute standing ovation at the end
  93. 3:28in a display of their patriotism and
  94. 3:31their enthusiasm for his presidency I'd
  95. 3:34also note that it's a shame that the CIA
  96. 3:36didn't have a CIA director to be with
  97. 3:38him today when he visited because the
  98. 3:41Democrats have chosen Senate Democrats
  99. 3:43are stalling the nomination of Mike
  100. 3:45Pompeo and playing politics with
  101. 3:47national security that's what you guys
  102. 3:49should be writing and covering that this
  103. 3:51instead of sowing division about tweets
  104. 3:54and and false narratives the president
  105. 3:57is committed to unifying our country and
  106. 3:59that was the focus of his inaugural
  107. 4:01address this kind of dishonesty in the
  108. 4:03media the challenging that bringing
  109. 4:05about our nation together is making it
  110. 4:07more difficult there's been a lot of
  111. 4:08talk in the media about the
  112. 4:09responsibility to hold Donald Trump
  113. 4:11accountable and I'm here to tell you
  114. 4:13that it goes two ways we're going to
  115. 4:15hold the press accountable as well the
  116. 4:17American people deserve and his law
  117. 4:19deserve better and as long as he serves
  118. 4:21as the messenger for this incredible
  119. 4:23movement he will take his message
  120. 4:25directly to the American people where
  121. 4:27focus will always be and with that a few
  122. 4:30other updates from the day the president
  123. 4:32had a constructive conversation with
  124. 4:34Prime Minister Trudeau of Canada about
  125. 4:36strengthening the relationship between
  126. 4:38our two nations they also discussed
  127. 4:40setting up additional meetings in the
  128. 4:42days to come which we will follow up on
  129. 4:44he also spoke to Prime Minister
  130. 4:47Netanyahu of Mexico and talked about a
  131. 4:51visit on trade immigration and security
  132. 4:54that will occur on the 31st the
  133. 4:57president has will welcome his first
  134. 4:59foreign leader this Thursday when the
  135. 5:01United Kingdom's Theresa May will come
  136. 5:03to Washington on Friday on tomorrow the
  137. 5:08president will oversee his assistance to
  138. 5:11the president being sworn in he will
  139. 5:13then the staff will then have an ethics
  140. 5:15briefing and be I briefing on the proper
  141. 5:18use and handling of classified
  142. 5:19information further updates as far as
  143. 5:23what he will do and then in the evening
  144. 5:25he will have a reception for law
  145. 5:26enforcement and first responders that
  146. 5:29helped support the inauguration thank
  147. 5:31you guys for being here tonight I will
  148. 5:33see on monday extent of the support
  149. 5:36depth and crowd and intensity that
  150. 5:38existed these attempts to lessen the
  151. 5:41enthusiasm of the inauguration are
