Trump administration cuts 10,000 HHS jobs to downsize bureaucracy — Transcript

2. 0:02this morning, growing lines of
3. 0:03confusion. Employees turned away, told
4. 0:06they no longer had jobs. This is all
5. 0:09part of the administration's effort for
6. 0:10a mass reduction in force in the federal
7. 0:13bureaucracy here in Washington, D.C. to
8. 0:15save American taxpayers money. In
9. 0:17today's cost-cutting, about 10,000 jobs
10. 0:20slashed across the Department of Health
11. 0:21and Human Services, which includes the
12. 0:23CDC, FDA, the National Institutes of
13. 0:26Health, and the Centers for Medicare and
14. 0:28Medicaid Services. The deep cuts hitting
15. 0:30divisions responsible for tackling HIV
16. 0:33and improving minority health. SHOW ME

18. 0:38demonstrators today outside the CDC in
19. 0:40Atlanta, on Capitol Hill, one HHS worker
20. 0:43fired in February confronted Indiana
21. 0:45Republican Senator Jim Banks. Are you
22. 0:48going to do anything to stop what's
23. 0:49happening? Uh you probably deserved it.
24. 0:51I deserved it?
25. 0:52deserved it. I deserved it? Wow.
26. 0:54Yeah, that's great to hear. Why Why did
27. 0:56I deserve it?
28. 0:57Because you seem like a clown. That
29. 0:59former worker, Max Schroeder, is
30. 1:00protesting the cuts. It's really
31. 1:02alarming and discouraging to hear that
32. 1:04he would say something like that to
33. 1:06people who are just giving their time to
34. 1:08really serve this country. Meanwhile, as
35. 1:10Democrats face criticism from their base
36. 1:12for not effectively countering the cuts,
37. 1:14a symbolic effort by New Jersey Senator
38. 1:16Cory Booker criticizing the president at
39. 1:19the Capitol for over 23 hours. This
40. 1:23president is wrong.
41. 1:26And he's violating principles that we
42. 1:28hold dear. Tonight, an HHS spokesperson
43. 1:31says the new cuts won't impact critical
44. 1:33services like Medicare, Medicaid, or
45. 1:35drug approvals. Secretary Robert F.
46. 1:38Kennedy Jr. says some agencies may have
47. 1:40their roles shifted to the newly created
48. 1:43Administration for a Healthy America.
