8. 1:27and i think i found
9. 1:29a little tiny bit of shelter
10. 1:32i look like a drowned rat that's okay

13. 1:39about this story
14. 1:41if you were
15. 1:44you were
16. 1:46cognizant live if you
17. 1:49paid attention to the news in the 1990s
18. 1:53you know the name susan smith if you
19. 1:55follow true crime you know the name
20. 1:56susan smith
21. 1:59even if you
22. 2:02i mean it was international this crime
23. 2:05it was
24. 2:06a crime that shocked
25. 2:07america and then it spread
26. 2:09and
27. 2:11it's one of the most horrific crimes i'm
28. 2:12gonna try to keep my uh
29. 2:14my emotions in check about this in terms
30. 2:16of my anger towards this monster
31. 2:20this
32. 2:20lady what she did
33. 2:24i'm gonna tell you
34. 2:26uh
35. 2:27up front susan smith murdered her two
36. 2:29children here in this lake in 1994.
37. 2:33now
38. 2:35before i tell you the full story
39. 2:37i should say
40. 2:40that yes her father committed suicide
41. 2:42when she was six she attempted suicide
42. 2:45at 13. apparently she attempted it again
43. 2:46around the age of 18. she's obviously
44. 2:49mentally
45. 2:50ill
46. 2:52um
47. 2:53she
48. 2:55was sexually abused by her stepfather
49. 2:58for quite a quite a long time
50. 3:02none of these
51. 3:03things played a factor in what she did
52. 3:06in my opinion and in
53. 3:09i guess the opinion of the people who
54. 3:12put her behind bars
55. 3:15and
56. 3:16so i do want to say that
57. 3:18because mental health is something with
58. 3:20the 2022
59. 3:21roughly lens that we live through mental
60. 3:24health is very important depression
61. 3:27and you can't just shoo that away when
62. 3:30it comes to people's actions
63. 3:32however
64. 3:35when i tell you the story of what she
65. 3:36did and how she did it you'll come to
66. 3:38the same realizations i did that moshe
67. 3:40did that she's just a cold-blooded
68. 3:42monster
69. 3:43there's another car that just pulled up
70. 3:44and was watching me very strange
71. 3:47there used to be a boat ramp
72. 3:49and you can see
73. 3:51part of it still down here
74. 3:55this is a very steep hill
75. 3:59people think the boat ramp
76. 4:01was here
77. 4:03was not
78. 4:05where it's kind of like a teen off thing
79. 4:07here going on here the bull ramp used to
80. 4:09be down here and you can still see
81. 4:11remnants of it somehow we're gonna walk
82. 4:12down
83. 4:14but after the boys were murdered
84. 4:16when they pulled the car out
85. 4:18to match up the shots
86. 4:21here the people that came here and there
87. 4:22was
88. 4:25probably there was a monument to the boy
89. 4:27somewhere
90. 4:29right about right around here
91. 4:34and there is a memorial to the boy still
92. 4:36here at the lake that we're going to go
93. 4:37to and then we're going to go somewhere
94. 4:38else
95. 4:42probably right around here was that
96. 4:43monument
97. 4:45roughly
98. 4:46so what happened
99. 4:48was susan smith
100. 4:51she's a young mother
101. 4:52michael three alexander 14 months
102. 4:56she was freshly divorced
103. 4:58from her husband david
104. 5:01and
105. 5:02she was in love with the gentleman
106. 5:04at her work
107. 5:07i think tom finley was his name
108. 5:12and
109. 5:13she thought they were going to be
110. 5:14together forever he was very very
111. 5:16wealthy now she had she was quite
112. 5:18promiscuous not that that has anything
113. 5:20to do with anything but
114. 5:22she both her husband her did were
115. 5:24unfaithful to each other
116. 5:25and she was
117. 5:28she got around
118. 5:30but she fell in love with finley and i
119. 5:33think it mostly that's an awful sound

139. 6:18she was in love with this guy last night
140. 6:20with finley
141. 6:23he wrote her a letter
142. 6:25and
143. 6:28he said in this letter
144. 6:31well first of all he called her
145. 6:33beautiful
146. 6:40sensitive
147. 6:44and intelligent

149. 6:55in the letter
150. 6:59basically telling her to go on live her
151. 7:00life be a nice girl don't sleep with
152. 7:03married men because she slept with a
153. 7:04married man
154. 7:05apparently
155. 7:06allegedly i don't care she did like a
156. 7:08guy in a hot tub
157. 7:10a few weeks before
158. 7:12and
159. 7:14he told her to live a life he didn't
160. 7:17want to be with her he was sorry about
161. 7:19the fact they messed around
162. 7:22in the past
163. 7:23but he wasn't ready for relation with
164. 7:24her he didn't think she was ready didn't
165. 7:26think she was the right woman for her
166. 7:28for
167. 7:28him good call
168. 7:32but he also stated that he did not want
169. 7:34children
170. 7:36and specifically did not want to raise
171. 7:37someone else's children and didn't want
172. 7:39to raise her children he said he was
173. 7:40sure they were nice
174. 7:41great kids something to that effect but
175. 7:43he didn't want to raise him
176. 7:47so
177. 7:48she thought obviously the way to get him
178. 7:51back
179. 7:52would be
180. 7:54to not have children anymore and she had
181. 7:56said to a friend i believe at work
182. 7:59i wonder what life would be like if i
183. 8:00didn't have kids
184. 8:04on the night of october 25th 1994
185. 8:08she drove around
186. 8:11for a while we don't know how long she's
187. 8:13she said she drove around for quite a
188. 8:14while now that we'll go back and forth
189. 8:17between her story and what really
190. 8:18happened of course
191. 8:20essentially
192. 8:21she brought her kids here
193. 8:23to the boat ramp
194. 8:26put it in neutral
195. 8:28and let it sail off into the lake
196. 8:31and when i mean
197. 8:32when i say sail off i don't mean it
198. 8:34sailed i mean it went up
199. 8:37and
200. 8:38over about a hundred feet out straight
201. 8:41ahead
202. 8:43then 18 feet
203. 8:45down
204. 8:46the mazda burgundy mazda protege
205. 8:50about 100 feet out
206. 8:52it took six minutes
207. 8:54from when she was standing on the boat
208. 8:56dock she was standing watching
209. 9:00because she told the police afterwards
210. 9:02when she confessed finally where exactly
211. 9:04the car was in this lake so that means
212. 9:07she watched it go under
213. 9:11six minutes
214. 9:13with her two young boys strapped in
215. 9:14their car seats
216. 9:16she watched it sink
217. 9:19and then they
218. 9:20drowned as the water caved in
219. 9:24all around them
220. 9:27i'm not trying to be over dramatic with
221. 9:28my voice
222. 9:30it's not something i do if you watch my
223. 9:31channel i'm just i'm
224. 9:34somewhat gritting my teeth
225. 9:39when it comes to
226. 9:42children
227. 9:44when it comes to animals when it comes
228. 9:46to seniors when it comes to the
229. 9:48defenseless the true defenseless
230. 9:52in our society
231. 9:54nothing
232. 9:56nothing
233. 9:57gets me angrier
234. 10:00nothing makes me more upset
235. 10:02and two little boys
236. 10:05she watched them drown she watched them
237. 10:07go under her
238. 10:09children
239. 10:10now what she claims
240. 10:12is that she
241. 10:14was going to commit suicide and bring
242. 10:15her kids along with them because she
243. 10:16didn't want them to grow up without a
244. 10:18mother a mommy
245. 10:20she was no mother
246. 10:22so she said she got out of the car twice
247. 10:25put the emergency brake on twice
248. 10:28but finally
249. 10:29she let it go
250. 10:31and let the car go in without her in it
251. 10:34[ __ ]
252. 10:36i don't believe that for one second
253. 10:39i don't believe that
254. 10:40nothing will convince me that she
255. 10:42actually was going to kill herself as
256. 10:44well she's a selfish
257. 10:46cruel
258. 10:47horrible human being
259. 10:49so she did not stand here
260. 10:52and think to herself i should i'm going
261. 10:54to kill myself too no her plan
262. 10:58was to get rid of her young boy so she
263. 11:00could have a life with this guy
264. 11:03and then
265. 11:04what she did was
266. 11:06she walked up that road
267. 11:08to a house i'm gonna show you that house
268. 11:12i believe the name well i shouldn't say
269. 11:14the family name but i know the name of
270. 11:16the people that live in the house
271. 11:18and i believe they still live there and
272. 11:20i'm going to show you that house
273. 11:21banged on their door
274. 11:23she was hysterical
275. 11:26good actress
276. 11:28claimed that a black man
277. 11:31had carjacked her
278. 11:33driven her to this lake
279. 11:36and then
280. 11:38kicked her out of the car and she said
281. 11:40let me get my kids out he said it would
282. 11:41take too long because of the
283. 11:43uh
284. 11:44car seats he said don't worry i'm not
285. 11:46going to hurt them and then he took off
286. 11:48and then she ran up
287. 11:52so the police
288. 11:55immediately responded
289. 11:57family friends everyone to that house up
290. 12:00just past those that forest
291. 12:07nine days went by
292. 12:09the police found so many inconsistencies
293. 12:11in her story one of the main one was the
294. 12:13intersection where she said
295. 12:16that she was carjacked at
296. 12:19she said there were no other cars around
297. 12:20and she was stopped at a red light
298. 12:22that's impossible because
299. 12:25that intersection
300. 12:27would always be green
301. 12:29for cross traffic it has only triggered
302. 12:31a red light if a car approaches so she
303. 12:33said there's no cars around
304. 12:35right
305. 12:37doesn't make much sense
306. 12:41they were beginning to catch her in
307. 12:43various lies
308. 12:45and she would put a lie on top of a lie
309. 12:49and she said that she was going to see a
310. 12:51friend a friend's boyfriend i believe
311. 12:54that night
312. 12:56and
313. 12:57he said he had no plans to meet her he
314. 12:59had no idea what they were talking about
315. 13:02another inconsistency
316. 13:04she was
317. 13:09well for lack of a better term full of
318. 13:11[ __ ]
319. 13:12and she was keeping that lie going and
320. 13:14she's i'm getting ahead of myself but
321. 13:16still to this day she's keeping the lie
322. 13:17going in prison although she is eligible
323. 13:20for parole in 2025
324. 13:23that's very soon
325. 13:27so the police began to suspect susan
326. 13:30smith
327. 13:32and there was press conferences she was
328. 13:35acting for the cameras her poor husband
329. 13:37who had no clue he was begging for the
330. 13:40return of his kids
331. 14:00i don't know what was going through his
332. 14:01mind if he suspected his wife i'm not
333. 14:03sure
334. 14:04but
335. 14:06they were
336. 14:08pleading pleading
337. 14:10for the return the safe return of their
338. 14:12children now finally nine days later she
339. 14:14had failed two polygraphs
340. 14:18and the police brought her in they used
341. 14:20quite a
342. 14:21interesting ploy it was hard for me to
343. 14:23find out exactly the ploy they used
344. 14:27but essentially
345. 14:28and i did find out essentially they said
346. 14:30we know you're lying
347. 14:32she denied deny denied
348. 14:35then they said well
349. 14:36the camera says otherwise there's a red
350. 14:39light camera
351. 14:41at the
352. 14:42intersection and we've watched the
353. 14:44footage no carjacking took place
354. 14:49she fell for it because she's stupid
355. 14:52and what happened was she confessed
356. 14:55and she said that whole [ __ ] thing
357. 14:57about the standing here
358. 14:59watching her kids
359. 15:01and and going to come suicide with them
360. 15:03now
361. 15:05you got to see this when the police
362. 15:07announce the uh arrest smith
363. 15:10has been arrested
364. 15:12and will be charged with two counts of
365. 15:14murder
366. 15:15in connection
367. 15:17with the deaths of her children
368. 15:19michael three and alexander 14 months
369. 15:23the vehicle a 1990 mazda driven by smith
370. 15:27was located late thursday afternoon
371. 15:30in lake john d long near union
372. 15:34two bodies were found in the vehicle's
373. 15:36back seat
374. 15:37identities are pending and all the
375. 15:39reaction of the crowd this whole town
376. 15:41union and the surrounding towns it's
377. 15:43beautiful the people are lovely
378. 15:45um that i've met in town and they all
379. 15:49came out
380. 15:50for nine days searching for these kids
381. 15:52and
382. 15:53they had already searched the lake but
383. 15:54they didn't search far enough
384. 15:56they did not search as far 100 feet out
385. 15:59is pretty far out so that car
386. 16:02went into the water and i guess
387. 16:04i'm not sure how deep it is
388. 16:06the st how steep right away
389. 16:09but it must have sailed a little bit on
390. 16:11top of the water floated
391. 16:13and then went under because i don't
392. 16:15think it would have jumped i i haven't
393. 16:17been able to kind of clarify how it went
394. 16:19100 feet out
395. 16:23but

397. 16:26susan smith was convicted
398. 16:29she got 30 years
399. 16:31it was up to the jury to decide if it
400. 16:32was death penalty or
401. 16:34a sense of 30 years they gave her 30
402. 16:37years
403. 16:38now
404. 16:40i've said before
405. 16:42on
406. 16:44true crime videos for me myself i think
407. 16:46i think the death penalty
408. 16:49is the easy way out
409. 16:52for a lot of criminals someone like her
410. 16:54a narcissist and
411. 16:56uh i think
412. 16:58that definitely would would she would be
413. 17:00fearful
414. 17:02so it might be a good thing
415. 17:05for her
416. 17:06but i think for a lot of criminals it's
417. 17:08not a deterrent and it's not
418. 17:10um
419. 17:12when there's a sociopath or a psychopath
420. 17:15i don't even think they care
421. 17:18even after the day
422. 17:20i think
423. 17:21when it's 100 that someone's guilty like
424. 17:24she is
425. 17:26i've always said
426. 17:28i think a cell that gets smaller and
427. 17:30smaller they take away an inch
428. 17:32two inches a year off the walls
429. 17:35until
430. 17:3630
431. 17:37years into the sentence 28 years
432. 17:40they're
433. 17:42in something maybe the size of this
434. 17:44picnic table here just a bed a toilet
435. 17:47no tv
436. 17:49no radio
437. 17:50no books
438. 17:52nothing
439. 17:54i think that's a worse punishment
440. 17:56you'd go insane
441. 17:58you already are but you'd go it'd be
442. 18:00worse
443. 18:01wouldn't it
444. 18:03isn't that a fake worse than death
445. 18:05she's got pictures of her kids and she
446. 18:08prays to them apparently still up in her
447. 18:10in her prison cell
448. 18:14she shouldn't be allowed to have those
449. 18:15pictures
450. 18:18she's had sex with two prison guards
451. 18:20both got fired one got put in prison
452. 18:23they deserve that
453. 18:26that's not your job obviously
454. 18:29and
455. 18:31why her
456. 18:32this is what she looks like now
457. 18:36doesn't she look like a karen
458. 18:38no offense to the parents who take
459. 18:40offense of that word but doesn't she
460. 18:42look like she'd be in front of you in
461. 18:44line at
462. 18:45krispy kreme or subway or somewhere and
463. 18:47just
464. 18:49yelling for the manager
465. 18:51he's been caught with drugs
466. 18:53stole an inmate's pen and got a good
467. 18:55behavior taken away for stealing mx pen
468. 18:57i didn't know that was or boring i don't
469. 19:00know that was a thing
470. 19:02um
471. 19:04and she still wants out she thinks she's
472. 19:06appealed her case in 2010 she said that
473. 19:10the prosecution or the police sorry
474. 19:12violated her ready for it
475. 19:15her amanda writes
476. 19:18yeah
477. 19:20we're dealing with someone super
478. 19:21intelligent
479. 19:23they're called miranda rights that's
480. 19:25basically your right to remain silent
481. 19:27but they violated her amanda rights is
482. 19:29what she wrote
483. 19:33here's where the boat ramp would have
484. 19:35been you can see
485. 19:38you see where it would have been right
486. 19:39here this is all grassed over i mean
487. 19:41it's been
488. 19:43a long time it's been 27 years
489. 19:47since this crime
490. 19:48actually looks somewhat shallow here so
491. 19:50it must have rolled
492. 19:52possibly on the lake lake bed
493. 19:56until
494. 19:58it would have tipped and gone under
495. 20:03but in the pictures you see the people
496. 20:05that were coming out here afterwards
497. 20:07see that inlet there
498. 20:11and sadly
499. 20:12i'm going to say a little bit more about
500. 20:13students with a moment but sadly
501. 20:16the memorials that were here people
502. 20:17would come
503. 20:19to look at the memorials that were right
504. 20:20up here
505. 20:21and seven more people perished in this
506. 20:24lake
507. 20:26car rolled in some of them were out
508. 20:28reading the memorial they ran in to try
509. 20:29to save them i'm not sure the uh
510. 20:32actual like all the facts i just know
511. 20:34seven more people died while they're
512. 20:36here to to pay respects and to look at
513. 20:38the memorial which is heartbreaking
514. 20:44and i believe there's been a suicide at
515. 20:46this lake as well i'm not
516. 20:49don't quote me on that but this is
517. 20:52a very very
518. 20:54uh
519. 20:56now that the rain stopped it's still
520. 20:58just as eerie
521. 21:01i don't know if people come here and
522. 21:03swim i don't know
523. 21:04uh
524. 21:06i don't know where they would
525. 21:07get a boat in now
526. 21:10but this lake is infamous this is john d
527. 21:13long
528. 21:14lake
529. 21:16yeah she wants out
530. 21:19and she's still
531. 21:21she still claims about the with the
532. 21:23she wasn't in her right mind well we
533. 21:25know that but she says that she was
534. 21:27she regrets it
535. 21:29and
536. 21:30she loves her boys so so much
537. 21:33well you love your boys so so much susan

539. 21:37stay in prison and think about them for
540. 21:40the rest of your life
541. 21:42which i hope is really long actually i
542. 21:45hope you
543. 21:46stay alive for a very very long time in
544. 21:48prison
545. 21:50and i hope you keep screwing up and i
546. 21:52hope you get solitary
547. 21:54i have no sympathy
548. 21:58for a parent who takes the life of the
549. 22:00children
550. 22:01she could have just said to her
551. 22:04ex-husband only only got divorced a few
552. 22:06days before this happened i might add
553. 22:09take the kids i can't handle them i
554. 22:10don't want them anymore
555. 22:14they're three they're one in one
556. 22:1614 months one year two months
557. 22:20you know they're gonna miss their mommy
558. 22:21but they're not gonna remember her after
559. 22:23three or four years
560. 22:24maybe well especially the little one
561. 22:27alexander
562. 22:28so there's there are many options
563. 22:31many options there's a thousand
564. 22:33different options
565. 22:35but no
566. 22:37no she thought the best idea was to
567. 22:39murder them in this lake behind me
568. 22:43so that's the basic story of susan smith
569. 22:46and what she did here
570. 22:50it's
571. 22:54the hard parts
572. 22:56i um

574. 22:58i've seen pictures of the car being
575. 23:01pulled from the lake i'll put those in
576. 23:02but there's other pictures i've seen
577. 23:05that i had never knew existed where you
578. 23:08can actually see inside the car
579. 23:11and it's horrific

581. 23:16i mean it was a closed casket i believe
582. 23:18they are buried together in one casket
583. 23:20but
584. 23:22you could see inside and i'm not putting
585. 23:24that on it's terrific there's clips of
586. 23:28the car being towed away around the
587. 23:30corner up this road luck lockheed
588. 23:32highway i believe it's caught something
589. 23:37when they found the boys
590. 23:40one had their hand against the window
591. 23:43and they were holding hands
592. 23:45this is what i've been told uh red not
593. 23:48been told

595. 23:51they were holding hands
596. 23:53and one
597. 23:55had their hand up against the glass
598. 23:58she stood here
599. 24:01and watched it
600. 24:03six minutes
601. 24:06six minutes before it was hank
602. 24:10it's october
603. 24:11in south carolina in 1994
604. 24:15but october south carolina that water is
605. 24:18going to be fine to jump in
606. 24:20if she had any remorse if she had any
607. 24:22regrets about what she had just done
608. 24:24she could have swam out she could have
609. 24:27easily easily
610. 24:30saved them
611. 24:35bang the glasses i don't know maybe i
612. 24:37mean
613. 24:40[ __ ] who knows what's here like what
614. 24:42could have been here what she could have
615. 24:43found to bash the glass she did it's all
616. 24:47me just thinking you know what she could
617. 24:48have done but she watched them
618. 24:51and she deserves no sympathy no sympathy
619. 24:54for any
620. 24:55of her history
621. 24:57suicidal thoughts in the past
622. 25:01she's obviously mentally ill
623. 25:03but
624. 25:04i think there has to be a point where
625. 25:07that
626. 25:08for a crime like this
627. 25:10sorry
628. 25:12and you're doing it you know what no not
629. 25:14sorry because she was doing it
630. 25:17for the sole purpose of trying to do the
631. 25:19man who was rich
632. 25:21his father was quite wealthy and he
633. 25:23lived in a big house this guy family
634. 25:25that she liked so
635. 25:27she
636. 25:29thought she was gonna be
637. 25:30you know
638. 25:32his next or his his wife i don't think
639. 25:33he was married before no
640. 25:35she thought
641. 25:36yeah she had a maid
642. 25:39there's a memorial to the boys that like
643. 25:41i said was right around here somewhere
644. 25:44not quite sure
645. 25:46exactly where it was i showed you the
646. 25:48angle but they've now moved it up the
647. 25:50road and we're gonna go there then i'm
648. 25:52gonna show you the house where she ran
649. 25:53to
650. 25:55and if i forgot any details i might fill
651. 25:56them in but that's the basic story and
652. 25:59there's a lake right behind me starting
653. 26:00to rain again that's fine
654. 26:04navigate through here
655. 26:06let's go take a look at the memorial
656. 26:07it's just up the road
657. 26:08that they moved because of the
658. 26:11danger of having it close people coming
659. 26:14sliding the car into the water
660. 26:17so right around that bend to the right
661. 26:19is where the house is

663. 26:22and where the sign i showed you at the
664. 26:24beginning of john d lake
665. 26:26and then
666. 26:28right down there
667. 26:30just around the corner you can see you
668. 26:31kind of see the car i was talking about
669. 26:33this parked right there that's where i
670. 26:35just was parked right at the end there
671. 26:38so halfway between
672. 26:40is

684. 27:14that looks so much like the famous
685. 27:15photograph uh a lot of us are familiar
686. 27:18with
687. 27:19dedicated to the loving memory of
688. 27:21michael and alex smith whose precious
689. 27:23lives
690. 27:24touched the hearts of all i've still i'm
691. 27:26[Music]

693. 27:30the way i'm speaking i'm
694. 27:32not really
695. 27:35i'm used to speaking
696. 27:39still so angry about it it just it just
697. 27:41blows my blood i listened to a lot and
698. 27:43watched a lot of the old news footage
699. 27:45and it's just
700. 27:48i'm sure you just you feel the same as i
701. 27:50do
702. 27:51suffer little children to come unto me
703. 27:53luke 18 16.
