  1. 0:00while this video is not scary what is
  2. 0:02scary is transvoice misconceptions so
  3. 0:05let's cover them today because between
  4. 0:07you and me I was supposed to upload a
  5. 0:09full voice tutorial this month but it's
  6. 0:11been a little delayed let's start with
  7. 0:14some more well-known misconceptions and
  8. 0:16get progressively more obscure like a
  9. 0:19trans misconception Iceberg or something
  10. 0:23Club Penguin
  11. 0:26why so there's a common misconception
  12. 0:29that you have probably heard of that in
  13. 0:31order to sound like a girl you need high
  14. 0:33pitch this is a myth if you go too high
  15. 0:36up into the stratosphere you end up
  16. 0:39sounding like Mickey Mouse or at least a
  17. 0:41bad impression of the mouse so while
  18. 0:44pitch does help with how the voice is
  19. 0:47gendered my voice for example isn't
  20. 0:49actually that high when you think about
  21. 0:51it I used to talk a lot higher around
  22. 0:54here that I speak a lot lower now for a
  23. 0:56few important reasons that I'll share
  24. 0:58with you lovely audience if you speak
  25. 1:00too high up it's unlikely you'll be able
  26. 1:02to sustain this pitch this can lead to
  27. 1:04not being able to talk as long or loud
  28. 1:08for that matter if you tried to sing
  29. 1:10along at a Taylor Swift concert you'd be
  30. 1:12a goner you may be wondering random
  31. 1:15voice coach YouTuber with a cool patreon
  32. 1:17in the description what do I do instead
  33. 1:19of pitch then well here's the name of a
  34. 1:22couple of techniques you can look up and
  35. 1:24find all sorts of tutorials whether it's
  36. 1:26for me or the other wonderful people
  37. 1:27that make tutorials pitch is still still
  38. 1:30important but no need to worry about it
  39. 1:32that much honestly most students I've
  40. 1:35had have just organically raise their
  41. 1:38pitch while we're focusing on the other
  42. 1:40stuff there's a common misconception
  43. 1:42that we need to practice trans voice for
  44. 1:43hours upon hours at a time that's
  45. 1:46ridiculous I promise you it's actually
  46. 1:48the opposite the reasons are not related
  47. 1:51to propose decreasing attention spans or
  48. 1:53something instead it's due to an
  49. 1:56important aspect of learning transl
  50. 1:58that's often overlooked creating habit
  51. 2:02if you practice for this 2 minutes every
  52. 2:04hour in the day that's pretty ideal
  53. 2:07actually that's like really good every
  54. 2:10other hour if that doesn't work but
  55. 2:12honestly if you just do a few two minute
  56. 2:14sessions of the techniques you can learn
  57. 2:16online each day whenever convenient your
  58. 2:19voice will improve much more than if you
  59. 2:21stared at a wall and just said phrases
  60. 2:24over and over for hours straight another
  61. 2:26misconception is related to the larynx
  62. 2:29this misconception is that the larynx
  63. 2:31has to move up a lot this advice is
  64. 2:34mostly applicable of course to people
  65. 2:36who have tried a larynx tutorial whether
  66. 2:39that's mine or many of the other
  67. 2:41wonderful options available these days
  68. 2:43so while I recommend my old larynx
  69. 2:47tutorial I made that a year
  70. 2:49ago and to be completely
  71. 2:53honest perhaps
  72. 2:55transparent there's some parts I
  73. 2:59partially disagree with now as I've
  74. 3:01grown and learned as an instructor of
  75. 3:03trans voice most notably there's a part
  76. 3:06of the video where I instruct the viewer
  77. 3:09to hold a swallow motion please don't do
  78. 3:12that please I can't edit the video and
  79. 3:15post froats are pretty
  80. 3:18delicate doing it a few times inherently
  81. 3:21isn't dangerous but if you did it over
  82. 3:23and over and over again not ideal we
  83. 3:25have to be nice to our froats I mean
  84. 3:28there's an entire specialization for
  85. 3:29speech fist to focus on swallowing and
  86. 3:32swallowing alone so it's pretty
  87. 3:33important so I intend to fully remake my
  88. 3:35larynx video but for now here's a quick
  89. 3:39tip so long story short this little ball
  90. 3:43in the throat moves up or down depending
  91. 3:45on which way the larynx is moving making
  92. 3:47a
  93. 3:48whispered sound keeps it level or
  94. 3:51decreases doesn't make a difference that
  95. 3:53I know of and then if you make a h sound
  96. 3:56for whatever reason the ball goes up
  97. 3:58long story short this ball is connected
  98. 4:00to the larynx but it isn't the larynx
  99. 4:01but it's connected to the larynx when it
  100. 4:04goes up a little so does our larynx they
  101. 4:06work together essentially doing this
  102. 4:09makes our voice less grally so we can
  103. 4:11avoid that kind of BL sound if the voice
  104. 4:15changes however your ball doesn't have
  105. 4:18to go all the way up like those carnival
  106. 4:22games so the ball of the throat does not
  107. 4:25have to Skyrocket all the way up the
  108. 4:27throat like one of those Hammer Games at
  109. 4:28carnivals doing this is dangerous reason
  110. 4:31being when you swallow you'll notice
  111. 4:34that the ball of the fruit will go fully
  112. 4:35to its highest point this is to ensure
  113. 4:38no food you swallow go somewhere it
  114. 4:41shouldn't it's a body mechanism designed
  115. 4:44to protect you but when talking you
  116. 4:47shouldn't raise your larynx that high
  117. 4:50otherwise you kind of have a lack of
  118. 4:52access to breathing if you can't breathe
  119. 4:56you'll sound very out of breath no
  120. 4:58matter how good your voice gets it'll
  121. 5:00lack support and most importantly
  122. 5:03holding the larynx will really hurt so
  123. 5:06instead you just need that ball to just
  124. 5:09raise a smudge just a little bit if you
  125. 5:12gently and I mean gently by the way
  126. 5:14don't don't be rough with your body your
  127. 5:15body is a delicate thing if you were to
  128. 5:17gently touch the little bowl in the
  129. 5:19throat and raise your larynx with the
  130. 5:21technique covered in either my tutorial
  131. 5:22or another tutorial you should feel the
  132. 5:25bowl move up a little bit but your
  133. 5:26finger should still have been touching
  134. 5:28the bowl it doesn't move that far up you
  135. 5:30know so I'll make an in-depth laring
  136. 5:34tutorial revised soon I'm currently busy
  137. 5:38with the next video which is a bubble
  138. 5:40phonation video it's okay if you don't
  139. 5:41know what that is I'll cover it that's
  140. 5:43the point of a tutorial as you know um
  141. 5:46but yeah I'm going to work hard with
  142. 5:48that video however that one's taking a
  143. 5:50really long time oh my God I'm so sorry
  144. 5:53all right all right last
  145. 5:55misconception I'm too old to get a girl
  146. 5:58Voice or even I'm too young young to get
  147. 6:00a girl voice I've I've been asked both
  148. 6:03I've been told both and like not really
  149. 6:06that's not really how it works the kind
  150. 6:08of ways our voice changes as we get
  151. 6:11older aren't that different between a
  152. 6:13sign sex as a birth however a voice post
  153. 6:17puberty will have thicken vocal
  154. 6:19faults but if you Lear to arange your
  155. 6:21larynx and other techniques you can
  156. 6:23achieve any sound as this woman can make
  157. 6:26no matter when you start just keep in
  158. 6:28mind voice training takes time it may be
  159. 6:32harder than you
  160. 6:33anticipated and the time commitment
  161. 6:36required is inherently kind of
  162. 6:39frustrating but don't give up okay just
  163. 6:41cuz something doesn't happen straight
  164. 6:42away doesn't mean it's impossible I mean
  165. 6:45if you learn a language you're not going
  166. 6:46to speak the language straight away you
  167. 6:49got to build up with building blocks
  168. 6:51trans voice is the same we get better
  169. 6:53and better and better and better I
  170. 6:55didn't sound perfect when I started my
  171. 6:58voice is closer to this and people said
  172. 6:59I was a lost cause so just letting you
  173. 7:02know you can just you can do it you
  174. 7:06don't have to be some like oooo
  175. 7:09professional singer to become someone
  176. 7:13that can do a girl
  177. 7:15voice I
  178. 7:17um I learned singing very recently
  179. 7:20actually it's a very different skill I'm
  180. 7:22not very good at it yet very different
