11. 0:17they were they wrote the word trust the
12. 0:19way they define the terms
13. 0:21is performance on the battlefield and
14. 0:23performance off the battlefield so this
15. 0:25is your skills this is did you make your
16. 0:27quarterly earnings whatever however you
17. 0:29want to translate it right performance
18. 0:31traditional this is
19. 0:33how are you off the battlefield what
20. 0:35kind of person are you the way they put
21. 0:36it is i may trust you with my life but
22. 0:38do i trust you with my money and my wife
23. 0:41this is what they told me
24. 0:43nobody wants this person the low
25. 0:44performer of low trust of course
26. 0:47of course everybody wants this person
27. 0:48the high performer of high trust of
28. 0:50course
29. 0:51what they learned
30. 0:53is that this person the high performer
31. 0:55of low trust is a toxic leader and a
32. 0:57toxic team member
33. 0:58and they would rather have a medium
34. 1:01performer of high trust sometimes even a
35. 1:03low performer of high trust it's a
36. 1:04relative scale
37. 1:05over this person
38. 1:07this is the highest performing
39. 1:08organization on the planet and this
40. 1:10person is more important than this
41. 1:12person
42. 1:13and the problem in business is we have
43. 1:14lopsided metrics we have a million and
44. 1:17one metrics to measure someone's
45. 1:18performance and negligible to no metrics
46. 1:21to measure someone's trustworthiness and
47. 1:23so what we end up doing is promoting or
48. 1:27bonusing
49. 1:28toxicity in our businesses
50. 1:31which is bad for the long game because
51. 1:33it eventually destroys the whole
52. 1:34organization
53. 1:36the irony is it's unbelievably easy to
54. 1:39find these people
55. 1:40go to any team and say who's the
56. 1:43and they'll
57. 1:51they will all point to the same person
58. 1:55equally if you go to any team and say
59. 1:57who do you trust more than anybody else
60. 1:58who's always got your back and when the
61. 2:00ships are down they will be there with
62. 2:01you they will also all point to the same
63. 2:03person it's the best gifted natural
64. 2:06leader who's getting who's creating an
65. 2:07environment for everybody else to
66. 2:08succeed and they may not be your most
67. 2:10individual highest performer but that
68. 2:12person you better keep them on your team
