  1. 0:00My sister and I were both adopted from
  2. 0:01the same orphanage. When we got to
  3. 0:02choose our paths, she picked a prominent
  4. 0:04family in Edinburg City, wealthy,
  5. 0:05influential, and utterly untouchable.
  6. 0:07But the heir turned out to be twisted
  7. 0:08and cruel. He tormented her day in and
  8. 0:10day out. I chose the unassuming Moss
  9. 0:12family. They didn't have the fortune or
  10. 0:14the status of her new family, but they
  11. 0:15treated me with genuine warmth. In time,
  12. 0:17their youngest son became a business
  13. 0:19titan, and he married me, giving me a
  14. 0:20life filled with more happiness than I'd
  15. 0:22ever dreamed possible. Consumed by
  16. 0:24jealousy, my sister secretly strangled
  17. 0:26me. But when I opened my eyes again, I
  18. 0:27found she had shamelessly stolen the
  19. 0:29life I'd built. This time, choosing the
  20. 0:31Moss family for herself. "Carmen," she
  21. 0:33sneered, "now it's your turn to suffer."
  22. 0:34I almost laughed out loud. Did she think
  23. 0:36the Moss heir was some simple jackpot? I
  24. 0:38opened my eyes on the very day my sister
  25. 0:40Hazel and I were to be chosen for
  26. 0:41adoption. "I'm very obedient, and I can
  27. 0:43do all the housework. Please pick me,"
  28. 0:44Hazel simpered, putting on a show of
  29. 0:46perfect innocence as she clutched the
  30. 0:48hand of Brad Moss, the Moss family's
  31. 0:49youngest son. So, she was a reborn, too.
  32. 0:52"Girl," said a refined woman, her voice
  33. 0:53cool with confusion, "I thought you said
  34. 0:55you liked our family." She was Alexander
  35. 0:57Morland's mother. The Morlands were the
  36. 0:58first family of Eden's elite. Though the
  37. 1:00heir himself, Alexander, was nowhere to
  38. 1:02be seen. "I changed my mind," Hazel
  39. 1:04retorted, shrinking behind Brad as if he
  40. 1:06were a human shield. "Is that a crime?"
  41. 1:08Mrs. Morland's face tightened. "Such a
  42. 1:09fickle child is unworthy of the Morland
  43. 1:11name." Then her gaze softened as she
  44. 1:13turned to me. "You seem like a good
  45. 1:14girl. Come with me. We have a son at
  46. 1:16home you'll like." I simply nodded and
  47. 1:17took her outstretched hand. A triumphant
  48. 1:19gleam flashed in Hazel's eyes as if she
  49. 1:21just won a great victory. But she had no
  50. 1:22idea. While everyone feared Alexander's
  51. 1:24eccentricities, I was far more terrified
  52. 1:26of Brad, a guy as cold and venomous as a
  53. 1:28snake. In my last life, I had spent
  54. 1:30years desperately trying to escape his
  55. 1:31grasp. This time, she had unknowingly
  56. 1:33done me the biggest favor imaginable. As
  57. 1:35Mrs. Morland stepped outside to get the
  58. 1:36car, Hazel sidled up to me, her eyes
  59. 1:38full of contempt. "Enjoy your new life,
  60. 1:40Carmen," she whispered. "This time,
  61. 1:42you're the one who will suffer." I
  62. 1:44didn't even bother to reply. Her
  63. 1:45gloating was nothing more than a clown's
  64. 1:46performance. She thought she had secured
  65. 1:48a fresh start, but the joke was on her.
  66. 1:50She hadn't escaped a fire, she had just
  67. 1:52jumped headfirst into a hell far more
  68. 1:53brutal than she could ever imagine.
  69. 1:55After I arrived at the Morland estate,
  70. 1:56Mrs. Morland gave me a private suite and
  71. 1:58hired a small army of tutors for piano,
  72. 2:00dance, and etiquette. She was gentle but
  73. 2:02frank. "Sweetheart, I'll be honest. I
  74. 2:04adopted a daughter to find a suitable
  75. 2:05match for my son. You must apply
  76. 2:07yourself. Alexander returns from abroad
  77. 2:09in a month. If he takes a liking to you,
  78. 2:10your future will be secure. Remember,
  79. 2:12the entire Moreland legacy will be his
  80. 2:13one day." I knew from my last life that
  81. 2:15Alexander had felt nothing but disdain
  82. 2:17for Hazel, and her time here had been
  83. 2:18miserable. I didn't dare hope the cold,
  84. 2:20aloof air would favor me, either. I
  85. 2:21needed my own plan for survival. A month
  86. 2:23later, the Morelands held a grand ball
  87. 2:25to welcome Alexander home. The elite of
  88. 2:27Edenor were all there, including the
  89. 2:28Moss family, due to their close business
  90. 2:30ties. Across the glittering ballroom,
  91. 2:32Hazel spotted me immediately. Dressed in
  92. 2:33a virginal white gown, she glided over,
  93. 2:35her smile as sharp as a knife. "Enjoy
  94. 2:37the party, Carmen," she whispered.
  95. 2:39"Tonight will be the most humiliating
  96. 2:40night of your life." I remembered this
  97. 2:42banquet well from my last life. It was
  98. 2:43when she had first met Alexander. He had
  99. 2:45taken one look at her, frowned in
  100. 2:46disgust, and told her to get lost in
  101. 2:48front of everyone. She had shamelessly
  102. 2:50clung to him, declaring herself his
  103. 2:51future wife. He had kicked her away
  104. 2:53without a second thought, but I was
  105. 2:54reborn, too. I knew how her story ended,
  106. 2:56and I had already charted a different
  107. 2:57course.
