- 0:00Most traders obsess over price. Some
- 0:02swear by volume. But the traders who
- 0:04really know what's happening, they're
- 0:05watching where positions are opening and
- 0:06closing. The real money trail. That's
- 0:08open interest. And if you're not reading
- 0:10it right, you're not trading the move,
- 0:11you're feeding it. In this video, we'll
- 0:13show you a clean, fast way to read open
- 0:15interest inflows and outflows so you can
- 0:17see when it's aligned with price. And
- 0:19more importantly, catch those quiet
- 0:21sentiment flips before the chart does.
- 0:23By the end, you'll know how to set it up
- 0:24in seconds, what every element means,
- 0:26and a powerful way to use it in your
- 0:28strategy. a method that separates smart
- 0:30money from liquidity. Let's jump in.
- 0:32Open interest tracks the total number of
- 0:34active contracts in the market. Every
- 0:36open long and short that hasn't been
- 0:38closed yet. When open interest rises, it
- 0:40means new positions are being built.
- 0:42When it drops, traders are exiting and
- 0:44liquidity is leaving the field. Now,
- 0:46here's where things get interesting.
- 0:47Price can climb for two completely
- 0:49different reasons. Either new buyers are
- 0:51stepping in. That's a healthy expanding
- 0:53trend, or shorts are scrambling to
- 0:55cover, which looks strong on the chart,
- 0:57but is often a fragile rally waiting to
- 0:59snap. That's why combining price with
- 1:01open interest is so powerful. It's not
- 1:03just about where the chart is moving.
- 1:04It's about who's actually behind the
- 1:06move. Open interest lets you separate
- 1:08genuine participation from hollow
- 1:10motion. The smart money from the panic
- 1:12chasers. The problem? Most open interest
- 1:14tools are messy, lagging, or buried in
- 1:16dashboards you need a degree to
- 1:17navigate. This indicator fixes that. It
- 1:19compresses everything into a single
- 1:21intuitive pane, estimating capital
- 1:23inflows and outflows in real time,
- 1:25converting open interest shifts into a
- 1:27live sentiment oscillator. When you add
- 1:29the indicator, you'll see three
- 1:30components. First, the open interest
- 1:32flow sentiment columns oscillating
- 1:34around zero. Teal bars show inflows
- 1:36dominating. Red columns show outflows.
- 1:38Think of this as how aggressively
- 1:40participants are adding or removing
- 1:42risk. Second, a smooth price sentiment
- 1:44line tracks price with the same scaling
- 1:46as open interest, letting you compare
- 1:48both on equal footing. When price
- 1:50sentiment pushes higher, while open
- 1:52interest flow fades, you're likely
- 1:54seeing short covering or late longs, a
- 1:56classic divergence. Third, a shaded
- 1:58correlation band wraps a thin baseline.
- 2:01Blue hues when open interest and your
- 2:02chosen input move together, amber when
- 2:04they're negatively related. A flip
- 2:06through zero often precedes momentum
- 2:08shifts. In [snorts] the corner, a tiny
- 2:10readout prints money inflow percent and
- 2:12money outflow percent in real time,
- 2:13giving you a quick participation gauge
- 2:15without opening any tables or side
- 2:17panels. If you're charting listed
- 2:18futures, the tool automatically switches
- 2:20to a clean stepline of open interest
- 2:22itself, colored by increase or decrease.
- 2:25Perfect for session reads. Jump into
- 2:27settings and start with open interest
- 2:29sentiment correlation. Choose what open
- 2:31interest should be compared to price
- 2:32sentiment, price volume, or onbalance
- 2:35volume. This lets you study different
- 2:37market regimes. For example, whether
- 2:39open interest is expanding with volume
- 2:41surges or lagging pure price. Toggle
- 2:43money flow estimates if you want the
- 2:45live inflow/outflow panel. Under style,
- 2:48you can show or hide open interest flow
- 2:50sentiment and price sentiment and
- 2:51customize their colors along with the
- 2:53correlation colors for quick scanning on
- 2:55light or dark themes. Finally, smoothing
- 2:57controls both open interest and price
- 2:59sentiment responsiveness. Lower values
- 3:01for scalping, higher for swing clean
- 3:03signals. That's all you need to read
- 3:05positioning at a glance. Let's look at
- 3:06this example. We're using the price
- 3:08action concepts algo on the main chart
- 3:10paired with open interest inflows and
- 3:12outflows below. At first glance, you can
- 3:14see price forming a clean bullish
- 3:16structure. Higher highs and higher lows
- 3:18confirmed by multiple breakup structure
- 3:20labels. But what makes this setup stand
- 3:21out isn't just the structure itself.
- 3:23It's what's happening underneath the
- 3:24surface. As price retraces into the
- 3:26demand zone highlighted by the price
- 3:28action concepts algo, notice how the
- 3:30open interest flow sentiment begins to
- 3:31turn positive. Teal bar is expanding
- 3:33above zero while the correlation band
- 3:35also shifts from amber to blue. That
- 3:37shift tells us something simple but
- 3:39powerful. Open interest is increasing in
- 3:41the same direction as price. In other
- 3:42words, new money is flowing in to
- 3:44support this bullish leg, not just
- 3:46shorts being covered. This alignment
- 3:48gives us real confirmation. We're
- 3:49trading alongside genuine positioning
- 3:51strength. That's our green light. From
- 3:53here, once open interest inflows remain
- 3:55strong, we take the entry at the retest
- 3:56of that zone. stop goes just below the
- 3:59demand region with a target set at the
- 4:01next structural high. As the move plays
- 4:03out, notice how the open interest
- 4:04histogram stays teal throughout the
- 4:06rally, showing sustained inflows and
- 4:08participation. That's what
- 4:09differentiates a real trend from a
- 4:11fading push. By combining price
- 4:13structure with open interest flows,
- 4:14we're able to confirm momentum with
- 4:16data, not hope. And that's the open
- 4:18interest inflows and outflows indicator.
- 4:20A simple way to see when capital is
- 4:22entering, exiting, and whether it's
- 4:23backing the move you're about to trade.
- 4:25Columns tell you who's adding risk. The
- 4:27sentiment line exposes divergences and
- 4:29the correlation band confirms or warns
- 4:31in real time. You can add it to your
- 4:33chart for free inside the Luxalgo
- 4:34library. In the example, we paired it
- 4:36with the price action concepts algo for
- 4:38confirmations and trade management. You

- 4:42luxalgo.com. As always, combine
- 4:44indicator signals with structure and
- 4:46risk management. Trade the idea, not the
- 4:48hope. Stay disciplined and we'll see you
