  1. 0:00If there's any one skill that will
  2. 0:01guarantee you more views, likes, saves,
  3. 0:04and shares, it is storytelling.
  4. 0:06Storytelling has been fundamental to how
  5. 0:08humans have evolved for generations, and
  6. 0:11content creation is no different. Now,
  7. 0:13lucky for you, I've done all the hard
  8. 0:15work of creating for the last 6 years,
  9. 0:17and I've mastered this one specific way
  10. 0:20of telling stories. Now, how do I know
  11. 0:21that this will work for you? Because
  12. 0:23I've personally done it myself, and I've
  13. 0:25gotten millions, millions, millions,
  14. 0:27millions, and millions of views. and
  15. 0:28I've done it with my students and I've
  16. 0:30gotten millions, millions, millions,
  17. 0:32millions, and millions of views. The
  18. 0:34reason why this specific format is so
  19. 0:36incredibly valuable is because it is
  20. 0:38literally so easy for anyone to do. It
  21. 0:41does not require you to speak in front
  22. 0:43of the camera. It solely relies on
  23. 0:44B-roll, text, and music, which all of
  24. 0:47you guys can do. So, sit back, take your
  25. 0:49notes out, and copy these five steps
  26. 0:51exactly as I have outlined, and you too
  27. 0:54will have success. Step one is to hook
  28. 0:57with pain. Now there will be two parts
  29. 0:58to this. Both your text hook and your
  30. 1:01visual hook. Now to best explain this, I
  31. 1:03want you to consider a picture book. A
  32. 1:05picture book has text that the parent
  33. 1:07can read aloud and describe in detail.
  34. 1:10It also has visuals which oftent times
  35. 1:12is not that detailed but it is simply
  36. 1:15there to actually amplify the emotion.
  37. 1:17Both in tandem make the story really
  38. 1:19engaging. Similarly, I want the text
  39. 1:21hook of your video to describe a
  40. 1:23specific pain that you had to overcome.
  41. 1:26Whether it be going through a breakup,
  42. 1:27feeling unseen, or being teased or being
  43. 1:29judged for something. I don't really
  44. 1:30care what pain it is. I just want you to
  45. 1:32first begin there. For the visual hook,
  46. 1:34I want you to choose a video clip or a
  47. 1:36photo that amplifies the emotion of that
  48. 1:38text. It does not have to be accurate to
  49. 1:41that moment. It simply has to have you
  50. 1:43be less happy. So, just don't choose
  51. 1:45that media in which you're smiling ear
  52. 1:47to ear. Instead, choose one that you
  53. 1:48look a little frustrated or stressed or
  54. 1:50overwhelmed. The psychological reason as
  55. 1:52to why we begin with struggle is because
  56. 1:55we as human beings, our common
  57. 1:56denominator is struggle. Meaning, if
  58. 1:58you're constantly starting your videos,
  59. 2:00flexing your watch or your fancy
  60. 2:01lifestyle or your lavish cars, and
  61. 2:03you're wondering why nobody cares about
  62. 2:04your videos, it's literally because
  63. 2:06nobody cares about you. Instead, if you
  64. 2:08can actually start with struggle, people
  65. 2:10see themselves in that challenge and
  66. 2:12they actually want to root for your
  67. 2:13payoff. Therefore, they won't swipe away
  68. 2:15and will be retained to watch the rest
  69. 2:17of the video. Step two, add a timestamp.
  70. 2:20This could be a year, a month, or a
  71. 2:22specific age. The reason for this is if
  72. 2:24you started off with the year of 2012,
  73. 2:26you know that there's going to be some
  74. 2:28form of transformation at the end of the
  75. 2:30video at the current year. If you think
  76. 2:32really hard about this, a lot of movies
  77. 2:34actually do this. Their previews begin
  78. 2:36with a flashback. And again, you're
  79. 2:37doing that because you're laying the
  80. 2:39foundation to build then for an upcoming
  81. 2:42transformation. What's brilliant about
  82. 2:43this timestamp is that you can actually
  83. 2:45treat it like an anchor all throughout
  84. 2:46the video. So, if you started at 2012,
  85. 2:48you could then have a progression into
  86. 2:502017, 2021, and then 2026, meaning that
  87. 2:53you could actually have a longer
  88. 2:55duration video where you're spacing it
  89. 2:57out and people are staying along for the
  90. 2:59next transformation. Also, a lot of
  91. 3:01times your viewers are actually going to
  92. 3:02identify themselves with a particular
  93. 3:04stage of your life. It's a subtle
  94. 3:06addition, but it makes the world's
  95. 3:07difference for your video's retention.
  96. 3:09Step three, make your text readable.
  97. 3:11This is often times the one that
  98. 3:13actually goes overlooked the most.
  99. 3:15There's a really fine line between being
  100. 3:17fast and engaging and being jarring. So,
  101. 3:20what ultimately happens is that people
  102. 3:21are so excited to do all of these really
  103. 3:23fast cuts and they make their text
  104. 3:25actually impossible to read. If your
  105. 3:27frames and your text move too fast, then
  106. 3:29the viewers can't keep along and they
  107. 3:31will swipe away. A really great test to
  108. 3:33check for this is to actually read each
  109. 3:35line aloud. The perfect pacing is one in
  110. 3:38which you can actually read the line
  111. 3:39aloud and then the frame immediately
  112. 3:42moves along. Now, there's a second part
  113. 3:43to this in terms of making your text
  114. 3:45readable. A lot of times with these
  115. 3:46silent film storytelling formats,
  116. 3:48because you're utilizing many different
  117. 3:49B-roll, sometimes your text gets
  118. 3:51actually placed on a background that
  119. 3:53makes it really difficult to read. So,
  120. 3:55the clearest example would be white text
  121. 3:57on a white background. So, a really good
  122. 3:58practice is actually to add a stroke or
  123. 4:01a border to your text so it allows your
  124. 4:03text to contrast against the background.
  125. 4:05Another quick pointer to look out for is
  126. 4:07to try and keep your text in the same
  127. 4:09location throughout the video because
  128. 4:10there will be a lot of B-roll and text
  129. 4:12changing. You want to keep the location
  130. 4:14consistent so it's easy to follow along.
  131. 4:16Number four, use the right sound. Often
  132. 4:18times when people are making a video
  133. 4:20like this, they will simply go to the
  134. 4:22trending music and choose one at the top
  135. 4:23of the list. However, for a silent film
  136. 4:25storytelling video, you need a specific
  137. 4:28type of sound. This is usually a song
  138. 4:30that has a builtup anticipatory effect
  139. 4:32and then when the music actually drops
  140. 4:34it allows you to progress into the
  141. 4:36successes. So what is actually happening
  142. 4:38is in tandem to the time anchor in
  143. 4:40tandem to you beginning with this
  144. 4:41struggle you have this music that is
  145. 4:43rising in intensity. So people are super
  146. 4:45immersed into the experience awaiting at
  147. 4:48the edge of their seat this
  148. 4:49transformation of yours. And when that
  149. 4:50music drops then the transformation
  150. 4:52occurs aka your successes or your payoff
  151. 4:55you can then start to show. Now before I
  152. 4:57move on to the fifth feature which I
  153. 4:59would argue is the most important I want
  154. 5:01to take a second to think about this
  155. 5:02from a bird's eye view. What have we
  156. 5:04actually achieved here so far? You are
  157. 5:05creating a video that starts with
  158. 5:07struggle knowing that's how human beings
  159. 5:09connect the most. So then you have wide
  160. 5:11reach potential. In addition, you are
  161. 5:13creating a story in which people can
  162. 5:15actually root for your transformation.
  163. 5:18They want to champion it because they
  164. 5:19see themselves in it. You're already
  165. 5:21building rapport within the video
  166. 5:23itself. And then ultimately when you
  167. 5:24showcase the transformation aka the
  168. 5:26various successes that you've now
  169. 5:28achieved, you're showcasing to them why
  170. 5:30you are in position of authority. That
  171. 5:32is insane. That is unheard of. And I am
  172. 5:34literally showing you how to do that in
  173. 5:36just one video. Imagine doing that for
  174. 5:3810 videos this upcoming month. This is
  175. 5:40why I'm telling you that not only will
  176. 5:41it get you more views, it'll get you
  177. 5:43more likes, saves, and shares. And the
  178. 5:44type of comments that you will receive
  179. 5:46are so different from the ones that
  180. 5:47you're probably getting today with the
  181. 5:49fire emojis and people saying, "Hey,
  182. 5:50epic sick video, dude." No, these are
  183. 5:52the types of comments like, "Oh my
  184. 5:54goodness, I really needed this. This
  185. 5:55completely changed my day. I really
  186. 5:57could use this reminder because I've
  187. 5:58been going through a very difficult
  188. 5:59time. Hey, this makes me feel less
  189. 6:01alone. Hey, I feel seen. Thank you so
  190. 6:03much for this video." That's the type of
  191. 6:04reactions that we want. Those are
  192. 6:06meaningful connections that you're
  193. 6:07building with people in real time. Now,
  194. 6:09I want to move into the fifth and final
  195. 6:11feature. You have to choose one theme
  196. 6:13for each of these silent film formats.
  197. 6:16Do not treat them like a full-on
  198. 6:18biography. What ultimately happens is
  199. 6:19that people get really excited about
  200. 6:21this format and they'll go ahead and try
  201. 6:23to talk about all these various
  202. 6:24different experiences throughout their
  203. 6:25life and they want to implement all of
  204. 6:27them and showcase all these different
  205. 6:28transformations, but it makes it really
  206. 6:30difficult for the viewer to follow
  207. 6:31along. I want you instead think of it
  208. 6:32like this. Every single video is going
  209. 6:35to highlight a different transformation.
  210. 6:37I have this really powerful framework
  211. 6:38that might make this extremely easy for
  212. 6:40you. It is called the three Ps. It is
  213. 6:42problem, pursuit, and payoff. So in
  214. 6:44these silent film formats, you want to
  215. 6:46showcase all three of those parts in
  216. 6:48that specific order. But you see how I
  217. 6:50didn't say problems, pursuits, payoffs.
  218. 6:55No, it's singular. So for example, you
  219. 6:57might have gone from anxiety to peace.
  220. 6:59You might have gone from being insecure
  221. 7:01to more confident. You might have gone
  222. 7:02from being financially insecure to being
  223. 7:05financially free. You may have gone from
  224. 7:06having bad grades to having better
  225. 7:08grades. You may have gone from having a
  226. 7:09failing business to a thriving one. But
  227. 7:11I also want to mention something really
  228. 7:12important here. You do not have to have
  229. 7:14these grand transformations. So, you do
  230. 7:17not have to be somebody that went from
  231. 7:19being incredibly broke to being a
  232. 7:21billionaire in order for you to tell a
  233. 7:22story. No, not at all. It simply needs
  234. 7:24to be any level of transformation. And
  235. 7:27you'll be shocked at how much connection
  236. 7:28you can build. So, yes, today I create
  237. 7:30content about a lot more of these
  238. 7:32serious transformations. how I've been
  239. 7:34able to help my dad overcome lifelong
  240. 7:36debts, how I've been able to overcome
  241. 7:38the struggle of my divorced parents, how
  242. 7:40I've been able to navigate the various
  243. 7:41mental health problems in my family. But
  244. 7:43when I first began creating content, I
  245. 7:45was simply saying I was overwhelmed in
  246. 7:47school. I was saying in my
  247. 7:48thermodynamics class specifically that I
  248. 7:51received a C on one of my exams. Any
  249. 7:54level of struggle or any level of
  250. 7:56problem that you can show that you have
  251. 7:58overcome, it will only build credibility
  252. 8:00and further connection with your
  253. 8:01audience. And if you are having a hard
  254. 8:03time with this, here's a simple practice
  255. 8:05that will make this very, very easy. All
  256. 8:07you have to do is open up a Google doc
  257. 8:08and start a 30 minute timer next to you.
  258. 8:11In those 30 minutes, I simply want you
  259. 8:12to list out transformative experiences
  260. 8:15in your life. What will happen is that
  261. 8:16you'll actually list out the first eight
  262. 8:18quite quickly, but beyond that, you'll
  263. 8:20find yourself struggling. Good. Stay in
  264. 8:21the struggle. That's exactly what we
  265. 8:23want. But as you constantly start to
  266. 8:24peel back the layers of your past,
  267. 8:26you're going to recognize even in the
  268. 8:28smallest moments, they were
  269. 8:29transformations that have turned you
  270. 8:31into the person that you are today. That
  271. 8:32is what we're looking for. So
  272. 8:34ultimately, what you'll have is a list
  273. 8:35of 20 plus different experiences. You
  274. 8:37can actually attach that file into
  275. 8:39chatbt and use a prompt that goes
  276. 8:41something like this. Here's a list of
  277. 8:43transformative experiences in my life.
  278. 8:45Are you able to identify common themes
  279. 8:48across them? Group them based on
  280. 8:49specific transformations like going from
  281. 8:52anxious to having a lot of peace to
  282. 8:54going from insecure to having a lot of
  283. 8:56confidence to going from financially
  284. 8:58unstable to being financially free. Note
  285. 9:00all transformations big or small. If you
  286. 9:02follow those exact five steps, you too
  287. 9:04will have a successful silent film
  288. 9:06format. Of course, the more attempts
  289. 9:08that you have with this, the better you
  290. 9:09will get. And I really hope that you
  291. 9:11could tag me in these videos or share
  292. 9:12them to me in my DMs because I really
  293. 9:14want to support you. If you have any
  294. 9:16questions, please leave them below. Give
  295. 9:18this video a thumbs up and of course
  296. 9:19subscribe. I'll see you all at the top.
